The speech left fans emotional

BAFTA viewers have been left in tears after Warwick Davis paid an emotional tribute to his late wife Samantha, who died last year.

The actor admitted that ‘life has been pretty tough’ since the death of his wife, before saying: “Thank you to the support of our wonderful children, I’ve been able to keep engaging in life.”

Davis cried on stage, with his children shown to be visibly emotional in the crowd.

He also said of his late wife: “She was always so supportive of my career, encouraging me to grab every opportunity with both hands.”

Davis was appearing at the show to receive a ‘BAFTA Fellowship’, which the awards show described as their ‘highest accolade’.

They said: “As our highest accolade, the BAFTA Fellowship recognises those who have made an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film, games or television.”

The emotional speech brought many viewers to tears, with one saying: “Oh no, Warwick Davis got me crying.”

Another said: “Warwick Davis and his kids have me BAWLING.”

A third added: “I’m not normally an emotional one but Warwick Davis just awww 🥺🥺🥹🥹🥺🥺💔 Well deserved.”

The legendary actor received his fellowship not just for his storied career, starring in Harry PotterStar Wars, Willow, and many more, but for his work supporting other actors with dwarfism.

The actor released a statement last year announcing his wife Samantha had died aged 53.

He said: “My wife and soul-mate, best friend. Devoted mother, My favourite human. My most trusted confidant and an ardent supporter of everything I did in my career, has passed.

“The most open, warm person I have ever known. Her passing has left a huge hole in our lives as a family. I miss her hugs.

“She was a unique character, always seeing the sunny side of life. She had a wicked sense of humour and always laughed at my bad jokes.

“With her by my side, I was sure I could achieve anything.

“It was like having a superpower. Without Sammy, there would have been no Tenable Quiz show, no Willow series.

“No Idiot Abroad Series 3. It was her suggestion that Ricky Gervais send me off with Karl — I think she wanted me out of the house for a few weeks!”

Samantha contracted sepsis in 2019 after a complication during surgery on her spine gave her the life-threatening condition.

She died in 2024. Davis has taken legal action against University College London Hospital where Samantha was operated on.

Selena Gomez has produced a BAFTAs moment after struggling to announce the winner

Viewers have been cringing after Selena Gomez was shown struggling to announce Kneecap after the movie about the Irish rap band won an award at this year’s BAFTA awards.

Gomez came up to present alongside Zoe Saldana, her Emilia Perez co-star, who herself made headlines for a swearing-filled acceptance speech that the BBC cut parts of for their broadcast.

The pair came up to present Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer, with Kneecap winning out over films such as Dev Patel’s Monkey Man.

Gomez went to announce the win, saying ‘I don’t know how to say…’ before passing the card over to Saldana.

This eventually ended with her realising it was pronounced… well how you’d expect Kneecap to be pronounced.

The gaffe led to a number of jokes about the subject on X.

One viewer tweeted: “Selena Gomez announcing kneecap this is cinema #BAFTA2025 TIOCFAIDH AR LAAAA.”

Another tweeted: “Selena Gomez saw Gaelic and panicked.”

Kneecap follows the Irish rap group that have made headlines for their controversial lyrics that are frequently critical of the British Empire, the Monarchy, and the Conservative party.

The three rappers Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap and DJ Próvaí all played themselves in the film, which Rich Peppiatt received the award for directing.

He said in his acceptance speech: “15 years ago, I actually met my wife and a decade later she convinced me to move to Belfast.

“Within two weeks of moving to Belfast, I met Kneecap, and now I’m standing here.

“It’s weird how life works like that.

He went on to say of Kneecap: “Kneecap is more than a film. It’s a movement.

“It’s about how everyone should have their language respected.

“They should have their culture respected and they should have their homeland respected. And so this award is dedicated to everyone who’s out there fighting that fight.”

The rappers rap predominantly in Irish, which the latest Irish census found to be a language spoken by less than 40% of the nation.

Kneecap’s controversial political statements have not stopped just because they were up for six awards tonight, with the band posting a picture of an Irish balaclava over Big Ben.

They posted it with a caption saying: “We’re at the BAFTAs later – hopefully we steal a few to take back to Ireland.

“Don’t forget the British government still occupy Ireland and they’re flying spy missions over Gaza as we speak to help Zionist fanatics bomb kids.

“Free Palestine. Free the Six Counties.”

Kneecap released a list of 10 rules to live by following the release of the film with number eight being: “Be outspoken, leave your mark and stand up for your people. Stand up for Palestine, and stand up for oppressed people around the world.”

Zoe Saldana swore repeatedly during an emotional speech gave following her win for Best Supporting Actress at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards in comments that were cut from the broadcast by the BBC.

She won the award for her role in Emilia Perez, a controversial Netflix film which has been cleaning up at various award shows this year despite being slammed by many fans.

Despite being nominated for 11 Oscars the film sits at 17% on Rotten Tomatoes fan score.

She said in her speech played on broadcast: “I was told not to cry by my children, so I’ll try.

“This is so validating and a true honour, because the very few times that I went for a part with a British accent or dialect coach, I was like, ‘This is not going to happen to you’.

“Even though I have a lot of British friends, I find myself repeating all their phrases, and I know that I’m a pain in the a**e.

“BAFTA thank you, this was a creative challenge of a lifetime. How do you begin to even approach a film that not just defies categorisation, and you start by taking the leap with Jacques Audiard. I want to thank my wonderful cast.”

She went on to say: “Films are supposed to change hearts and challenge minds and I hope I did something like this. voices need to be heard, just not my English accent.”

The following comments however, were cut from the BBC’s broadcast when she finished, saying: “Oh my god I’m getting a countdown. F**k f**k f**k!”

The full speech has been uploaded to YouTube, which can be watched here.

A BBC spokesperson said: “As in previous years, due to the nature of the show it is broadcast with a short delay, and while we always aim to keep the core sentiment of acceptance speeches, edits have to be made due to time constraints.”

The thanks she gave to her cast, which was included in the broadcast, included her giving thanks to co-star Karla Sofía Gascón.

Gascón was absent from the awards show following the revelation of her numerous controversial comments.

She played the titular character in the film, but has been absent from much of their awards run.

The film’s director said to Deadline: “I haven’t spoken to her, and I don’t want to. She is in a self-destructive approach that I can’t interfere in, and I really don’t understand why she’s continuing.

“Why is she harming herself? Why? I don’t understand it, and what I don’t understand about this too is why she’s harming people who were very close to her. I

“’m thinking in this thing of how hurting others, of how she’s hurting the crew and all these people who worked so incredibly hard on this film.

“I’m thinking of myself, I’m thinking of Zoe and Selena. I just don’t understand why she’s continuing to harm us.”

Netflix fans are going wild over ‘badass’ series which made them keep watching it ‘until the very next morning’

The series has been branded a ‘better alternative’ to Game of Thrones…

Netflix users are flocking to social media in awe of a TV series which has a whole whopping seven seasons.

If you’re over all the rom-coms you were forced to sit through by your partner over the Valentine’s Day weekend, fear not, because Netflix has a post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama for you to sink your teeth into.

Loosely based on the young adult novel series by Kass Morgan, the drama was developed by Jason Rothenberg and first premiered on March 19 on The CW.

Spanning seven seasons and a whopping – and fitting – 100 episodes, it begins ninety-seven years after a nuclear apocalypse wipes out most of human life on Earth, with people forced to live in a space station – dubbed Ark – orbiting the planet.

When the life support systems on board the space station begin to fail, a group of people are sent back to Earth to figure out whether it can ever be habitable again.

The series – titled The 100 – stars the likes of Eliza Taylor (Quantum Leap), Thomas McDonell, (Prom) Bob Morley (Love Me), Marie Avgeropoulos (Tracers) and Devon Bostick (Diary of a Wimpy Kid).

The 100 has achieved an impressive Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer of 93 per cent and popcornmeter of 67 per cent and that love is certainly reflected by viewers taking to social media platforms to share their thoughts too.

A social media user took to LADbible Facebook page Netflix Bangers to ask: “What series on Netflix was so good it made you watch until the very next morning.”

One user commented: “The 100. Its pretty badass.”

“I agree! I watched it twice,” another added.

A Twitter user wrote: “To everyone tryna do a GoT rewatch, I have a better alternative: The 100 is back in 3 weeks and it’s all on Netflix. If for no other reason (and there are many, often so ridiculous, reasons), it’s worth watching for the reveal in the last 5 minutes of the last episode.”

“Enjoyed this TV series when it released. Good or bad, but the ideas were just insane. What happens 100s of years after earth was destroyed. It’s a world it takes us into,” a second wrote.

A third commented: “THE 100. This series quickly proved it would rarely play things safe, delivering a ton of gasp-worthy, incredibly dark, exciting, and dramatic moments centered on a group of strong characters frequently presented with harrowing choices and no morally clean options. #The100.”

Muddy floodwater rushes through neighborhoods across four states following a torrential downpour

Flash flooding has devastated parts of four states as powerful storms tore through the US.

Search and rescue efforts are taking place in Virginia, the worst of the states affected, with Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia residents all waking up to the havoc created by the floods.

Parts of Hurley, a small unincorporated community situated in Virginia close to the border of both Kentucky and West Virginia, have been almost completely submerged by floods – with videos surfacing online detailing the destruction.

At around 11.30pm ET last night (February 15), Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office reported that officers were responding to a number of emergency calls on the flooding.

Officials have explained that parts of Vansant, Prater, Grundy, Davenport, Slate Creek, Rocklick, Hurley and Oakwood were unable to be accessed due to high water.

Taking to Facebook, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin urged residents not to ‘fight the water’ and instead leave their properties if safe to do so.

“Heavy rain is hitting Virginia, with flash floods already reported in SWVA. Stay alert — don’t fight the water, just leave, and call for help. First responders, rescue crews, law enforcement, VDOT, and the VA National Guard are deployed. Your safety is our top priority,” he wrote.

Terrifying footage has been uploaded to Twitter from residents showing how ferocious the rushing waters were, with properties almost completely engulfed by the floods.

One video is of a woman taking a video from the safety of her porch as muddy floodwaters flow past her, and while her property has been drenched, it shows how she escaped the worst of it with cars and everything around her being wholly submerged.

The lady then highlights that a local Dollar General stood towards the end of the street – which is only really noticeable now by its roof as a bank also saw waves crash around halfway up the building.

The National Weather Service’s (NWS) Blacksburg office, in Virginia, wrote: “At 5:22 p.m. EST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned area, which is already experiencing saturated soils and swollen rivers. Between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is up to 1 inch per 1 hour.

“Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.”

According to WJHL’s Storm Team 11 Forecast, it predicts downpours to continue today (February 16), noting that ‘slight to moderate risk of flash flooding across the area through Sunday morning’ is expected.

Costco, USPS, Banks & More — What’s Open and Closed on Presidents Day?

Will your go-to store or bank be open on Presidents Day? As the holiday nears on February 17, 2025, here’s what to know about openings, closures, and schedule changes.

Presidents Day, observed on February 17, is a federal holiday that impacts government offices, banks, and businesses nationwide.

Here’s what will be open, closed, or operating on adjusted hours this President’s Day 2025.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) will be closed, halting mail delivery and retail services for the day. Wells Fargo will not be in operation, and American Bank will also remain shut for the holiday, just as it was last year.

Capital One announced on X, formerly Twitter that their branches and offices will not operate, though customers can still access banking services through their mobile app and website.

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) will remain closed on Presidents Day, along with the New York State’s Department of Financial Services.

Despite the federal holiday, some businesses will stay open. Costco Wholesale Corporation (Costco) will operate as usual, as it only closes on select holidays such as New Year’s Day, Easter, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Walmart will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Among the banks, Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD Bank) will also operate on Presidents Day.

Shipping services will be affected. FedEx will be open on Presidents Day but will operate on an adjusted schedule. FedEx 1 will have modified services, while FedEx Office, FedEx Freight, FedEx Custom Critical, and FedEx Logistics will remain operational.

With schedules varying across businesses and services, customers are encouraged to check with specific locations for any changes in hours or operations.

Presidents Day, observed on the third Monday of February, was originally established in 1885 to honor George Washington’s birthday on February 22.

In 1971, the Uniform Monday Holiday Law moved the holiday to create a long weekend, and over time, it became known as Presidents Day, recognizing Abraham Lincoln, born on February 12, and other U.S. presidents.

The National Archives preserves records of all presidents, while Presidential Libraries and Museums provide insights into modern presidencies, starting with Herbert Hoover.

This Hollywood Icon Proved That True Love Exists by Caring for Her Husband of 46 Years After His Stroke – A Love Story That Inspires

Her life seemed like a glamorous Hollywood dream — working alongside some of the biggest stars in films that would become classics. However, she found her greatest happiness in a love story that lasted nearly half a century. When her husband’s health declined in his later years, she stood by him, devoting herself to his care.

She rose to fame in the 1950s, earning a place in Hollywood’s golden age with roles in films like “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” and “Funny Face.” Her career spanned six decades, making her a recognizable figure on stage, television, and film.

Known for her charm and high energy, she could do it all — sing, dance, act — and remained a steady presence in the industry for years. Her 46-year-old marriage wasn’t always easy, especially in the later years, but her devotion to her husband through life’s most challenging moments proved that love can endure anything.

A Six-Decade Career in Hollywood

Her first television appearance was on the popular “Burns and Allen” show when she was just 16 years old. It wasn’t a grand discovery, as she described it, but it was enough to get her a union card and start her journey in show business.

Her early work on television opened the door to bigger opportunities, and it wasn’t long before she found herself auditioning for the 1954 film “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.” Producers were looking for dancers for the musical, and her ballet skills caught their attention.

When asked if she could perform something more “folksy,” she delighted them with a Lithuanian polka — drawing from her family’s Eastern European roots. Her unique charm and talent secured her the role of Ruth Jepson.

The musical became a massive success, and the experience left a lasting impression on her. She recalled one mishap when she slipped on the wooden platform and knocked herself out during rehearsals. “I did a big slide back and fell forward onto my face, hit my head on the planks, went out like a light,” she recalled.

The actress, also a choreographer, lightened the mood, joking that she had dropped a coin and was trying to find it. Although she left with a goose egg on her forehead, she quickly laughed it off and continued rehearsals.

The film became a hit and cemented her place in Hollywood. Other notable roles soon followed, including an appearance in “Funny Face” (1957) alongside Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire. She also had a role in “Witness for the Prosecution” (1957).

Her versatility kept her busy for decades, working in film, television, and on stage. She admitted she never reached superstardom but maintained a steady and rewarding career. “I’m a triple threat,” she once said, proud of her ability to adapt to different roles.

In addition to acting, she spent five successful years on the Home Shopping Network, where her lively personality resonated with viewers. Reflecting on her long career, she stated, “I’ve always managed to make a living at it.”

But while her professional life was filled with exciting opportunities, her true fulfillment came from her marriage. She had a love story that would define her life in later years.

The Love Story with Webb Lowe

Amid a successful Hollywood career, she met and married Webb Lowe, a dashing real estate executive from Texas. As she fondly described him, “He was handsome in every way. And his inside was even better than his good-looking outside. He was the finest, finest man that God could’ve sent.”

The couple built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. They traveled the world together, savoring new experiences while enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Their bond was unbreakable, and their marriage lasted an impressive 46 years.

In February 2020, the actress marked their 44th wedding anniversary with a heartfelt message on social media. “Today and every day is special with this wonderful man. As we toast each other, we wish you all a lovely day whether coupled or single… love each other and love yourselves,” she wrote.

For decades, their marriage thrived. They weathered life’s ups and downs with unwavering support for one another. But as time passed, her love for Lowe was tested.

Caregiving and the Final Years

The couple’s joyful life together took a turn when Lowe suffered a stroke. The health challenges that followed were immense, requiring constant care and attention. Without hesitation, she devoted herself to his well-being, stepping into the role of caregiver.

She spoke openly about the emotional toll it took, admitting she would sometimes run out of patience. However, Lowe’s calm nature and constant gratitude helped diffuse her frustration. His steady kindness became a source of strength during the most difficult moments.

Over time, Lowe’s condition worsened as he developed dementia, gradually slipping further away from the man she had known for decades. Watching the decline of someone she loved so deeply was heartbreaking.

Still, she found ways to stay strong and advised others facing similar struggles. “You really have to pray hard and call on all those great reserves of love to help you through. [People with dementia] don’t know what they’re doing to you. And things can tear you apart if you let them,” she once said.

Despite the overwhelming responsibility, she never wavered. For her, caregiving was an extension of the deep love they had shared for decades. It was not easy, but it was a role she was determined to carry out to the very end.

In July 2020, Lowe passed away just shy of his 89th birthday. Although the loss was painful, she chose to focus on gratitude for the time they had shared rather than linger in grief.

“When he died, all I could do is look back with a smile,” she said. “I had 46 glorious years without a fight. He was a gentle, loving soul with a wonderful heart.” Still, watching him slip away in his final years had been one of the hardest experiences of her life.

She recalled, “Every few months, I’d see him slipping away more.” Despite the sadness, she honors his memory most lovingly by celebrating the life they had built together. On what would have been their 48th wedding anniversary, she shared a touching message on social media.

The post dated February 2024 read, “Happy Heavenly Anniversary. Although no longer with me… my beloved Webster is always in my heart.”

Followers who admired her enduring devotion showed their love and support. One fan wrote, “Beautiful love story ❤️.” Another described it as a “wonderful romantic story,” while another remarked, “Great that you can miss him that way.”

Even in the face of loss, she was optimistic, finding solace in revisiting the memories of their life together. “I thank God every day,” she said. “I’m sorry that he’s gone, but thank you for the pleasure of having him all those years.”

Her Work with The Thalians

After losing Lowe, Ruta Lee focused on a cause close to her heart. Lee turned much of her focus toward her work with The Thalians, a Hollywood nonprofit dedicated to mental health causes.

Her involvement with The Thalians began years earlier when the organization focused on raising funds for psychiatric care for children. Over time, the group shifted its mission to address the mental health needs of returning veterans — a cause she fully embraced.

“My work on behalf of The Thalians […] is what I’m proudest of,” she revealed. “Right now, our focus is geared on the mental health of our returning veterans.”

Helping others brought her a renewed sense of purpose, just as her work in entertainment had done for decades. At 89, Lee remains active and engaged, showing no signs of slowing down. She has remained a beloved figure to her fans for decades.

“A forever fan since the early 60s!!!” one admirer wrote. Others continue to praise her timeless beauty and spirit, calling her a “gorgeous lady” and saying, “You are so beautiful to me.”

Even with all her accomplishments, she is far from finished. “I don’t think I’ve had my big break yet,” she joked a few years ago. “I still think I have somewhere else to go.”

Tennant took a swipe at President Trump during his speech

David Tennant drew applause for firing a shot at Donald Trump during his opening speech at this year’s BAFTA Film Awards.

The actor mocked the President of the United States, moving on to discuss him by saying ‘speaking of villains’.

He went on to joke: “Donald Trump said he hasn’t seen The Apprentice — because it’s a 15. It’s not on Nickelodeon.”

He then joked that by saying his name three times ‘it’s like Beetlejuice – I’ve summoned him’.

Tennant’s jokes were controversial, as most things involving Trump tend to be, and led to the BBC cutting some of his remarks from the broadcast.

The awards are broadcast on a two hour delay, allowing the BBC to cut certain content as they wish, perhaps hoping to avoid their own version of the Oscars slap.

Tennant made the joke following an opening that featured several celebrity cameos, including Brian Cox, with the former Dr Who actor doing a rendition of ‘500 Miles’ by The Proclaimers.

The Scottish star is hosting tonight’s shows which has seen nominations from films such as Conclave, A Real Pain, Emilia Perez, and Anora in one of the last major award shows before the Oscars.

One viewer tweeted following the joke: “David Tennant saying ‘talking of villains’ after saying Donald trump oh I do adore him”.

Another said: “Trump’s hair in the apprentice… Talking about villains!” Oh David Tennant the man that you are.”

The actor came out and was unafraid to fire shots at a politician despite the controversy that followed a previous insult he made at the expense of Conservative party leader Kemi Badenoch.

Tennant said that Badenoch should ‘shut up’ at the British LGBT awards upon receiving an award for being an ally, saying: “We shouldn’t live in a world where that is worth remarking on.

“However, until we wake up and Kemi Badenoch doesn’t exist any more – I don’t wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up – whilst we do live in this world, I am honoured to receive this.”

This also isn’t the first time that Tennant has made a joke at the expense of Trump, or even the only time he has called the politician a ‘villain’.

Appearing on the Late Night with Seth Meyers show in 2015, Tennant discussed how villains ‘don’t know they’re villains’, before listing Donald Trump as an example of that.

He also fired a shot at the politician in 2018 when appearing on the Channel 4 comedy show the Last Leg.

Tennant discussed how Trump had done an interview in which he claimed Scottish people liked him due to his golf courses, finally saying: “Can I say on behalf of the Scottish nation, we f**king don’t.”

Nikocado Avocado lost 17 stone in two years

YouTuber Nikocado Avocado has revealed the ‘truth’ about how he managed to lose 17 stone in just two years.

The content creator, whose real name is Nicholas Perry, became social media famous from his viral mukbang (eating show) videos.

Perry would controversially eat more to put on weight during his mukbang videos, and in turn, his subscribers went up.

Last September, however, the 32-year-old shocked his followers after revealing that hadn’t filmed a video in two years.

Showing off an insane weight-loss transformation, the YouTuber said: “I am always two steps ahead. This has been the greatest social experiment of my entire life.

“It’s worrying, it’s compelling, it’s gripping to observe all these unwell, disorientated beings roam the internet in search of stories, ideas, rivalries where they feel encouraged, engaged.”

Now, in a recent video he appeared to level with his viewers and told them exactly how he lost the weight.

“Okay, so I’m just going to come out with it… I did a procedure, another one. So y’all know about the face one. I couldn’t stop there,” he said.

“So, the truth is, when I came back to the internet… I was concealing something.

“Now, everyone was like, ‘Show us your loose skin’.

“Most people around that time already thought that I’d had skin removal surgery. I didn’t want to address it, and the reason was because I didn’t have skin removal surgery and I had a lot of loose skin.

“I knew I would have some, and I was hiding it. I was hiding it in my clothes.”

Perry explained that it took a long time to lose the weight, adding: “I lost 250lbs (17 stone) and it took a very long time. It took 2.3 years. And I did it very slowly, we’re talking about eight pounds a month.

“I’m just going to come out with it – I plateaued for some months. Sometimes I lost nothing or I gained two pounds, then the next month I lost 10 or 11, so averaged around eight pounds a month.”

He continued: “And at the end of it, I had a lot of loose skin on my belly, my arms, my thighs, my torso, everywhere.

“There was loose skin all over my body. When you take out the fluid and the fat, it’s just skin. You can kind of tuck it under your pants and hide it, and that’s what I decided to do.

“I did not want to get skin removal surgery at that time, I was like, ‘I don’t know if I can handle it.’ I was really nervous for it.”

But with the help of Dr. Timothy Katzen, he was able to remove 10 pounds of skin, which the social media star has called a ‘superior version of a tummy tuck’.

“I am loving my results. I feel so good. I haven’t felt this good for, like, ever in my entire life,” he said.
