A man spent $20,000 on a completely wrecked supercar to see if he could manage to sell it for a profit.

The YouTuber documented the experience in a video where he worked out how much money it would cost to restore the car.

The vehicle in question was a BMW I8 which would cost around $160,000 brand new.

Vlad Biaheza posted the video for his 1.39 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, @biaheza.

In the clip, Vlad said: “I looked for auctions where an insurance company was selling it directly rather than a third party as that seems a little less sus.

“I also didn’t want to buy a high mileage one or one that was insanely crashed which landed me on this option right here.”

The car Vlad chose cost $22,000 and only had 28,000 miles on it, but it was in pretty bad shape.

Trying to fix up the vehicle with the help of his dad, the YouTuber confessed that he was ‘honestly super overwhelmed’ and explained that the trickiest part to navigate was the ‘mechanical damage’.

And it didn’t come cheap as Vlad forked out over $20,000 in parts and repairs.

Adding it all up, he said: “I think we might have failed on that whole ‘make a profit’ portion of this thing but I’m hooked, I want to try this again, I want to run this back with another car so let me know if you have any suggestions.”

Many viewers took to the YouTube comment section to share their reactions to the video.

Impressed by the achievement, one user wrote: “According to the used car listings on BMW’s site, he saved about $10 – $15k and got to spend some quality time with his dad. I’d say that’s a win. Would love to see more.”
