Former figure skater Inna Volyanskaya was onboard the fateful flight while returning from Kansas with her students

A Disney On Ice star was among those onboard the fateful American Airlines flight, which has left dozens dead, a US official has confirmed.

Former Soviet figure skater Inna Volyanskaya, 59, perished in the tragedy which stunned the world on Wednesday (January 29).

A string of skaters, coaches and their loved ones were travelling on the passenger jet, which was bound for the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

But the 60 passengers and four crew never made it to their destination, as the plane collided with a military helicopter and plunged into the Potomac River.

President Donald Trump confirmed there were ‘no survivors‘ expected at a White House press conference last night (January 30).

After news of the tragedy broke, US Figure Skating announced that a number of athletes and coaches were onboard the American Airlines flight while returning home from the National Development Camp in Wichita, Kansas.

In a statement, the US governing body for the sport said: “We are devastated by this unspeakable tragedy and hold the victims’ families closely in our hearts.

“We will continue to monitor the situation and will release more information as it becomes available.”

It has since been confirmed that sisters Everly and Alydia Livingston, aged 14 and 11, and their parents Peter and Donna Livingston were among the victims.

The young girls were also reportedly accompanied by their coach Inna Volyanskaya, a famed figure skater from the Soviet Union.

Virginia Congressman Suhas Subramanyam confirmed that the athlete, who tutored young skaters at the Washington Figure Skating Club, was among the dead in a statement shared on X.

“It’s confirmed that none of the 67 people in last night’s crash survived, including members of our community like Inna Volanskaya, an ice skating coach in Ashburn,” he said.

The world-renowned performer starred in Disney On Ice as Princess Aurora, Cinderella, Belle and Ariel, according to her coaching biography.

She competed as a pairs skater for the Soviet Union in the 1980s before bagging the lead role in Tatiana Tarasova’s ice theatre troupe, known as the ‘Russian All-Stars’, and skated in shows around the globe.

Specialising in jump technique, choreography, moves in the field, spins, off-ice conditioning, and stroking, Volanskaya then began her coaching career in 2002.

Her former husband Ross Lansel described her as ‘one of the best skaters he’s ever seen’ while paying tribute to her.

“She was one of the best pair girls to skate,” he told News4. “Just knowing the impact she made to all the skaters and everyone just hurts my soul.

“I wish all those kids that she taught, just my condolences and I wish them – all my prayers go out to them. I wish them the best of life and everything because I know it’s going to be so hard without her.

“It’s tough because as a figure skating coach, you mean a lot to these kids and you’re like the individual person for them.”

Hockey coach Serguei Kouznetsov also shared his condolences, telling FOX 13 he knew Volyanskaya as a fellow Soviet Union immigrant.

“Very good people, very driven, focused on the particular task of figure skating, and completely dedicated,” he said of the late skater. “(She was at the) rink all day. Nothing else mattered.”

In her final Instagram post, Volanskaya heaped praise on her students who she had been in Kansas with.

Sharing a series of smiley snaps, she wrote: “Congratulations on Everly and Franco for making it to the national development camp for their second year!

“So proud of all their hard work and training they have done to get here. What an amazing way to start off the year!”

The recovery operation in the Potomac River is still ongoing.

Trump has raised some eyebrows with his comments

President Donald Trump has sparked controversy due to his comments about the deadly plane crash in Washington DC.

At a White House press conference last night, Trump confirmed there were ‘no survivors’ expected after an American Airlines plane collided with a military helicopter on Wednesday (29 January).

The politician then went on to seriously put his foot in it after making a joke about visiting the crash site in the US capital.

The passenger jet, which had 64 people onboard, was approaching the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport when disaster struck.

It plunged into the Potomac River, as did the Bombardier CRJ700 which was carrying three military personnel.

Chilling audio recorded in the aftermath of the devastating crash then emerged, where an airline official can be heard describing a ‘fireball’ erupting in front of their eyes.

Trump initially described the incident as a ‘terrible accident’, but suggested it ‘looks like it should have been prevented’.

“The airplane was on a perfect and routine line of approach to the airport,” he wrote on his social media site Truth Social yesterday. “The helicopter was going straight at the airplane for an extended period of time.

“It is a CLEAR NIGHT, the lights on the plane were blazing, why didn’t the helicopter go up or down, or turn. Why didn’t the control tower tell the helicopter what to do instead of asking if they saw the plane.

“This is a bad situation that looks like it should have been prevented. NOT GOOD!!!”

When asked during a conference whether he had any plans to visit the crash site, the president then cracked a controversial joke.

“I have a plan to visit, not the site,” Trump said. “Because what, you tell me. What’s the site? Water. We’re going to go swimming?”

Dozens of bodies have now been retrieved from the Potomac River, according to reports, however some still remain missing.

Trump said he is set to meet with the loved ones of some of the 67 victims who died in the fatal crash.

He also made a string of scathing comments about who was to blame for the mid-air tragedy.

Trump claimed that the Black Hawk helicopter did ‘the opposite of what it was told’ before the crash, before alleging that people suffering from ‘severe intellectual and psychiatric disabilities’ had been hired as air traffic controllers.

He promised to ‘restore faith in American air travel’ while heaping blame on his predecessor Joe Biden.

“My administration will set the highest possible bar for aviation safety,” Trump said, while adding that a ‘very special genius’ is needed to coordinate air traffic.

“They have to be talented, naturally talented geniuses,” he said. “You can’t have regular people doing their job.”

At just 49 years old, Peter Alexander was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) – the same condition that has affected Die Hard legend Bruce Willis and TV host Wendy Williams.

According to the Mayo Clinic, FTD is an umbrella term for a group of brain diseases that mainly impact the frontal and temporal lobes – areas of the brain responsible for personality, behavior, and language.

“In frontotemporal dementia, parts of these lobes shrink, known as atrophy,” the Mayo Clinic explains. “Symptoms depend on which part of the brain is affected. Some people with frontotemporal dementia have changes in their personalities.”

The symptoms vary depending on which part of the brain is affected. Some people experience personality changes, becoming “socially inappropriate, impulsive, or emotionally indifferent” while others struggle with language difficulties, losing the ability to properly communicate.

Now 56, Alexander – who is originally from England and lives in Northern Ireland with his wife Jill – has been forced to step away from work and focus on managing his health.

In a recent interview with BBC News, he revealed that it was a subtle change in his work habits that first hinted at a problem.

“I was starting to struggle to meet deadlines (at work), which had never been a problem before, and during meetings, I wouldn’t be able to think of a word when speaking,” he told the outlet.

Concerned about these issues, he booked an appointment with a neurologist and was sent for a scan which later revealed the devastating news.

“I remember the date very clearly, it was 14 January 2018 when the results came back and the doctor said: ‘Peter, I have diagnosed you with having frontotemporal dementia,'” he said.

The diagnosis meant Alexander had to leave his job. “I was basically told that it was no longer safe for me to work because I have diminished judgment and I was losing my filter, so it was a lot to adapt to,” he added.

Despite his diagnosis, Alexander refuses to let dementia define him.

“People think when you have dementia it’s only about forgetting things but it’s more complex, it can manifest in different ways,” he said. “I don’t want to be treated differently, it’s imperative that people actually see the person, see beyond the condition.”

He also highlighted the long, difficult road to diagnosis, explaining: “Sadly for many people, the diagnosis can take an awful long time and that puts an enormous amount of pressure on the family unit.”

Alexander insisted that deep down inside, he is still the same person. “I might not always be able to express it in the same way, but I’m still the same person I was, inside I’m still Peter,” he concluded.

The 78-year-old music icon, best known for hit songs ‘Because The Night’ and ‘Dancing Barefoot,’ was performing at the Teatro Cultura Artística on Wednesday (January 29) night alongside Soundwalk Collective when she suddenly fainted.

Witnesses told Metropoles that the four-time Grammy nominee fell backward and hit her head on the stage.

Teatro Cultura Artística shared a statement on Instagram after the incident, revealing that Smith had been suffering from “severe migraines for the past few days”.

The venue assured concerned fans that she quickly rushed off stage in a wheelchair and “is being monitored by top doctors and staff”.

Despite medical recommendations to abandon the show, Smith returned to the stage and delivered a stunning performance of her classic hit ‘Because the Night’.

The crowd erupted in applause as she powered through another song. “It was a very memorable moment for everyone present,” the theater added in its statement.

The ‘Gloria’ singer is scheduled to perform again with Soundwalk Collective on Thursday (January 30) night at the same venue. Organizers have promised to keep fans updated on her condition.

“We thank Patti Smith and Soundwalk Collective for taking care of the audience, and everyone for their support during the event. As soon as we have information about tomorrow’s performance, we will share it on our channels. We count on everyone’s understanding,” the venue concluded.

The experimental group also shared their own statement on social media, telling fans Smith “is tremendously grateful for your patience and forgiveness and she sends her love to all who attended”.

This isn’t the first time the singer-songwriter has faced health concerns.

Back in December 2023, Smith was forced to cancel a show at Teatro Duse in Bologna, Italy, due to a medical issue.

She later shared her gratitude for the hospital staff and fans who supported her through the ordeal.

Posting a smiling photo alongside the medical team, she wrote: “This is thanking all at the hospital for their help and guidance. I am so sorry that we had to cancel concerts in Bologna and Venice. I will return to fulfill my happy obligations.”

She also took a moment to acknowledge healthcare workers worldwide, adding: “This is also to thank all the medical teams globally, who attend to the people’s needs, especially those altruistically serving under fire, all healers, physicians, nurses, and attendants.”

“Also, I want to thank everyone for sending messages of love and concern,” she continued. “I am resting, as the doctor ordered, grateful to have had such care, though being painfully aware that many are not so fortunate.”

The Bologna Health Authority later confirmed that she had been discharged in “good health”, sharing their own message of support: “We hope to be seeing you on stage soon after an appropriate period of rest!”

In one of his last social media posts, Flores reflected on his journey and his decision to cut back on drinking during the tour.

“So I started my tour a couple weeks ago and I’m proud to say I’ve done every single show. 5 in Portland 1 in Albuquerque and 4 in Atlanta without a single drop of alcohol. Nervous for Phoenix next weekend but I think I got it I’m not sober just wanna chill a bit,” he shared.

Flores first gained recognition through his YouTube videos, which quickly went viral, helping him amass a dedicated following on Instagram, TikTok, and X.

Tributes have flooded in for Flores. Credit: Michael S. Schwartz/Getty

He also played a key role in creating the LatinXL comedy show alongside comedian René Humberto Valdiviezo, an initiative aimed at increasing Latino representation in the comedy scene. The show paid tribute to Flores in a heartfelt statement:

“LATINXL came from an idea over late night pre-pandemic convos and backyard covid shows to do something together — to break Latinos into opportunities that would usually be hard to land… while also getting our own stage to refine our comedy and enjoy our friendship while chasing our dreams. We were so proud of Ken when he made it in his dream as a kid from Aurora.”

The statement continued: “We were always rooting for him and continued to share stages to present day. LATINXL WOULD NOT exist without Ken. The XL was a nod to Ken for having an ‘XTRA large personality’ and being such a force… which crowds all over the country would inevitably love.”

Our thoughts are with Flores’ loved ones at this time.

Dad of pilot who flew American Airlines plane that crashed has demanded an answer after 'worst day of his life’

At least 40 bodies have been recovered following the American Airlines crash on Wednesday

The dad of the man who piloted the American Airlines plane that crashed has spoken out.

Sam Lilley was one of the two pilots on the flight which collided with an army helicopter on Wednesday (29 January) over Washington D.C. Both aircrafts were sent crashing into the Potomac River with all 67 people on board them dead.

Officials are currently investigating the crash with the black boxes recovered from the American Airlines plane.

Timothy Lilley, the father of American Airlines pilot Sam Lilley, told Fox 5 following the devastating incident: “This is undoubtedly the worst day of my life.”

He explained he was in New York when he saw there had been a crash, adding: “I really didn’t think there was any way that was my son.”

But the father’s worst fears were confirmed when his son didn’t check in after the flight as he normally would do.

The pair shared a passion for flying, with Sam starting his flight training in 2019 and having worked with PSA Airlines (part of the American Airlines group) for two years while Timothy served 20 years as a helicopter pilot in the army.

“In the ’90s, I used to fly in and out of the Pentagon regularly, and I can tell you if you are flying on the route over the Potomac and wearing night vision goggles, it’s going to be very hard to see that plane. If you’re not wearing the goggles, then you might have a chance,” he said.

The dad went on to claim it was the military chopper at fault: “From what I can see, those guys turned right into the jet. I think the PSA jet was doing everything right.

“The Army pilot made a grave error. It hurts me because those are my brothers, and now my son is dead.”

Investigators are yet to name a cause for the incident.

Timothy is now waiting for answers, having travelled to the crash site, filled out forms at the airport and been told to wait for further information.

As officials continue the investigation, with black boxes recovered from the plane, the pilot’s father is remaining focused on seeking clarity on the events that led to his son’s death.

DC Fire has now completed the search of all accessible areas of the crash site, with additional searches to ‘locate aircraft components’ in order to support the investigation and ‘begin operations to salvage the aircraft’ will commence today.

Neil Patrick Harris' milestone message to twin children after admitting he doesn’t want to know which one is biologically his

The actor and his husband David Burtka share 14-year-old twins Gideon and Harper

Neil Patrick Harris might have been a dad for more than a decade, but he still isn’t interested in finding out which of his twins he is the biological father of.

The Albuquerque-born actor, 51, welcomed his kids Gideon and Harper into the world with his husband David Burtka back in October 2010.

The children, who were conceived via surrogate, are now 14 years old and thriving – with Patrick Harris dubbing them ‘amazeballs’ in a sweet birthday post last year.

The dad marked the milestone by sharing a snap of the teenagers cradling their dogs alongside a poignant message about parenting them both, while acknowledging that they wouldn’t even be able to read it.

Let’s hope he reiterated his point in their birthday cards then, eh?

In the social media post shared on 13 October, 2024, the How I Met Your Mother star wrote: “Harper and Gideon turn 14 today.

“I have never been more proud of anything in my entire life, and I suspect I never will. My husband David and I marvel at their maturity, are wowed by their warmth, chuffed by their charm.

“We love them both unconditionally, and their hugs fill us with life. We don’t say any of this to them, obvs, or they’d recoil or leverage it to their advantage.

“But they’re not on Insta, so I’m free to speak honestly. They’ll never find out. Happy Birthday, Harper and Gideon. You’re both amazeballs.”

A host of social media users then took to the comment section to discuss the teenagers’ resemblance to their parents.

One said: “I often wonder how it’s possible that your kids look like both of their dads. Is this a new science thing I’m not aware of? Regardless, they are both beautiful and I wish them the happiest birthday.”

Another wrote: “Amazing children and [they] look so much like y’all!”

And a third added: “That boy is your twin. Happy birthday!”

Despite the apparent interest in Gideon and Harper’s genetic makeup among fans, Patrick Harris and Burtka, 49, prefer to remain in the dark.

During a 2014 interview with veteran broadcaster Barbara Walters, the Doogie Howser, M.D actor revealed that he had ‘no interest’ in finding out which twin is his biological child.

The twins turned 14 in October last year (Instagram/@nph)

“I have no interest in [finding out],” Patrick Harris said. “We are their parents and I love them implicitly.”

The father-of-two then went on to discuss the intricate process which he and professional chef Burtka had to go through to become dads.

The couple, who began dating in 2004, and got hitched ten years later, used an anonymous egg donor and a surrogate to carry their twins.

Patrick Harris explained: “We inserted one of my sperm and one of David’s sperm into two eggs, with the hope that they would both take, just because we both wanted to be dads biologically, and both took, miraculously.”

As the children are fraternal twins and not identical, the conception of the twins involved two embryos – one for each twin.

Patrick Harris then admitted that he and Burtka did have suspicions about whose child was whose ‘based on their behaviour’.

“It’s so funny,” he said. “I see myself in each of them at different times.”

But he didn’t reveal what those suspicions were, nor who he thought his genetic child was.

The American Horror Story star said that he takes on the role of the ‘stern disciplinarian’ when parenting Gideon and Harper, laughing: “My voice gets real intense.”

Earwax Removal 101: The Best (and Safest) Ways to Clear Clogged Ears

And two remedies to avoid at all costs

An adult putting ear drops in a child's ear

Trouble hearing? Or did you push that cotton swab a little too deep this time? A clogged ear from earwax buildup is at best annoying and at worst a prelude to hearing loss.

But earwax, also known as cerumen, is not only normal, it’s necessary.

“People think that earwax is dirty and needs to be cleaned, but earwax has both anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties,” says ear, nose and throat specialist Anh Nguyen-Huynh, MD. “It also protects ears from things that could hurt the eardrum, such as dust, hair or small insects.”

Factors that can affect your amount of earwax include previous ear surgery or trauma, recurrent ear infections, or wearing hearing aids or deep earplugs.

How to remove earwax safely

So how can you best handle earwax woes?

“Sometimes, trying to clean them causes more problems than it’s worth,” says Dr. Nguyen-Huynh. “Ears are like self-cleaning ovens. When the outer layer of skin in the ear canal sheds, the wax will fall out with it.”

If earwax is becoming a nuisance, Dr. Nguyen-Huynh recommends several easy ear cleaning methods:

Over-the-counter ear cleaning drops

If you have a small amount of wax, over-the-counter ear cleaners work well. Look for drops that contain hydrogen peroxide or other kinds of peroxide. The peroxide does a good job of breaking up earwax.

Here’s how to use ear cleaning drops:

  1. Lay sideways: Make sure the ear you’re cleaning faces up and add the drops as directed.
  2. Let it sit: Allow the cleaning solution to sit in your ear for around five minutes. This lets the liquid soak in and soften things up.
  3. Grab a tissue: When you sit up, the liquid should come out along with the earwax that broke loose. Have a tissue ready to catch it all.

Ear cleaning drops may not work if you have too much earwax or a condition called impacted cerumen (when there’s a firm wax plug blocking your ear canal).

“When it’s a plug, putting peroxide in your ear may make things worse because you’re softening the plug but not dissolving or removing it,” Dr. Nguyen-Huynh says. “Then the softened plug becomes like a wall of mud that can plug your ear even more.”

A bulb syringe

If ear cleaning drops don’t work, the ears might need flushing with a bulb syringe, which are available at drug stores or grocery stores. You’ll want to fill the syringe with warm water, place it near your ear opening, and carefully squeeze the bulb. The warm water will flood your ear and break up the wax. Turn your head to the side over a sink or bathtub to let the water (and, ideally, wax) flow out.

However, there are a few caveats:

  • Be gentle: Flush your ear gently to avoid harming your eardrum.
  • Watch the temperature: The water should not be too cold or too hot. If it is either, the temperature difference could make you dizzy.
  • Avoid if necessary: Don’t use the flushing method if you have a hole in your eardrum or if you’ve ever had eardrum surgery. Flushing may damage your eardrum repair.

If you are not comfortable flushing your own ears, says Dr. Nguyen-Huynh, you might want to check with your primary care provider’s office to see if there is a nurse who can do it for you.

Mineral or olive oil

Anecdotally, Dr. Nguyen-Huynh says people who put olive oil in an ear before getting a cleaning seem to get wax out more easily. “It lubricates the ear canal,” he explains. “But I’m not sure it’s any better than what we usually recommend, which is mineral oil.”

Earwax removal methods to avoid

All earwax removal hacks are not created equal. Dr. Nguyen-Huynh recommends steering clear of these two remedies:

Cotton swabs

A manufacturer’s warning on the package says it all: Do not insert swab into the ear canal. Dr. Nguyen-Huynh explains: “A cotton swab acts like a ramrod in an old-style cannon. The tip pushes the earwax in deeper, so the more you use it, the more earwax you push in. Plus, you may rupture your eardrum if you push too far. Or if you scratch your ear canal, it can get infected because now dirt and bacteria can penetrate under your skin.”

Earwax removal candles

Dr. Nguyen-Huynh says you should doubly stay away from this method: These candles don’t work, and they may burn you.

Why and when you should clean out earwax

While earwax is generally more annoying than dangerous, sometimes you need a doctor to clear it. Dr. Nguyen-Huynh says it’s smart to seek medical evaluation if home remedies don’t work, your ear hurts or you have trouble hearing.

“Someone needs to look in and see if the ear canal is open or if the wax is plugging it up,” he says.

Symptoms of a clogged ear include:

  • Pain
  • Your hearing becomes muffled
  • A feeling like your ear has something blocking it
  • Dizziness
  • Tinnitus

If the situation is minor, you may be able to get your ears unblocked right then and there. If not, a doctor can use operating microscopes to magnify inside the ear canal, loosen the wax and vacuum it out.

And a clogged ear may have other causes. “It could be a middle ear infection with fluid filling up the space behind the eardrum,” Dr. Nguyen-Huynh cautions. “Or you could have a viral infection that affects the inner ear. In those cases, a doctor can diagnose and treat you to prevent permanent hearing loss.”

But like most things in life, it’s all about balance — too much wax can block your ears and cause temporary hearing loss or infections. “A small number of people will need cleaning if they produce too much wax that jams up the ear, especially if they have a smaller-than-average ear canal,” Dr. Nguyen-Huynh explains.

Third Time Lucky Ear Wax Removal

Third Time Lucky Ear Wax Removal

Earwax Removal Home Remedies

You typically do not need to remove earwax, though some home remedies, including irrigation, may help reduce buildup. Removing earwax may cause side effects, including damage to the ear canal.

Earwax (cerumen) is produced in our ear canals. Its presence is usually natural and healthy. Sometimes, though, earwax buildup may be uncomfortable, unsightly, and, in some cases, temporarily affect your hearing.

Although over-the-counter earwax drainage products are available for purchase, several household items can also be used to clear your outer ear canals of excess wax.

Read on to learn about safe earwax removal home remedies and what to avoid.

Should you clean your ears?

In a 2018 studyTrusted Source of 206 college-aged students, the vast majority practiced ear-cleaning. 75% said they believed the practice to be beneficial for their health.

But the thing is, you don’t really need to clean earwax out of your ears. Earwax isn’t dirt. Earwax serves an important purpose: lubricating and protecting your ears. It even helps reduce your risk of ear infections since it has antibacterial properties.

The risks of removing earwax can outweigh the potential benefits. Cleaning out earwax with a cotton swab can damage or irritate the ear canal or even puncture the eardrums.

If you use an object to clean out visible earwax, you may also risk pushing earwax deeper into your ears. Over time, this can lead to earwax impaction (blockages).

Home remedies for earwax removal

You should not attempt to remove ear wax if you have:

  • tinnitus
  • ear surgery
  • an ear infection
  • a perforated eardrum
  • any other ear complications

In these instances, you should consult with your doctor to help with ear wax removal.

Also, if you feel pain or discomfort at any time during any of these procedures, stop immediately and consult with your doctor.

Baking soda

You can remove earwax at home using baking soda:

  1. Dissolve 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 2 ounces of warm water.
  2. If you have a dropper bottle, pour the solution into it.
  3. Tilt your head to the side and gently drip 5 to 10 drops of the solution into your ear, 1 drop at a time.
  4. Leave the solution in the ear for up to 1 hour, then flush with water.
  5. Do this once a day until the earwax clears up. It may happen within a couple of days. Don’t do this for any longer than 2 weeks.

You can remove earwax at home using 3% hydrogen peroxide or a 50-50 mixed solution of hydrogen peroxide and water.

  1. Tilt your head to the side and drip 5 to 10 drops of hydrogen peroxide into your ear.
  2. Keep your head tilted to the side for 5 minutes to allow the peroxide to penetrate the wax.
  3. Do this once a day for 3 to 14 days.
  4. After hydrogen peroxide bubbles, it turns into water. To remove the water, you can gently rinse the ear canal with alcohol to dry out the moisture and avoid bacterial growth.

Soften earwax blockages with oil

Earwax is an oil-like substance. Thus, some oils can cause earwax to soften when the two substances come into contact. Proponents of this remedy suggest using the following oils:

  • baby oil
  • coconut oil
  • glycerin
  • mineral oil
  • olive oil

To use oil for earwax removal:

  1. If desired, slightly warm your chosen oil and pour it into a dropper bottle. Don’t warm the oil in the microwave. Always test the temperature before putting it in your ear.
  2. Tilt your head to the side and place a few drops of oil into your ear.
  3. Keep your head tilted to the side for 5 minutes.
  4. Repeat once or twice per day.

Irrigation

Sometimes earwax can be dislodged by the light pressure of water flushing:

  1. Purchase a soft rubber bulb syringe made for ear cleaning, and fill it with warm water.
  2. Tilt your head to the side with a thick towel or basin below the ear.
  3. Gently squeeze the bulb so that the warm water shoots into your ear.
  4. Allow the water to run down into the towel or basin.
  5. You may even do this over a bowl so that you can see if any visible pieces of earwax fall out.

Irrigation can be combined with any of the methods recommended above. Perform irrigation 5 to 15 minutes after you use baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, or oil.

In a small trialTrusted Source that included 38 children, pediatricians found that irrigating the ears in a clinical setting was just as, if not more, successful at dislodging earwax as scraping it out with a metal tool.

Potentially dangerous home remedies to avoid

Although earwax removal is often safe to do at home, there are some cases that require the attention of a medical professional. If the above home remedies don’t work for you, contact your doctor.

Do not use the following to remove earwax:

  • Small objects: Avoid using small objects such as pen caps or bobby pins to clean out your ears. Many doctors agree with the old saying, “Never put anything in your ear that’s smaller than your elbow.”
  • Cotton swabs: Although they may look safe and perfect for your ears, cotton swabs are too small to be used safely inside the ear and could cause damage.
  • Ear candles: This technique has received extensive coverage, but there are concerns that it can cause injuries, such as burns and punctured eardrums.
Takeaway

If you feel that you have an earwax problem, your first step is to check with a doctor. They can decide if it’s a condition to address, a symptom of an underlying condition, or something to let your body handle without assistance.

Being overly aggressive with removing wax from your ears can sometimes lead to problems with your hearing. you may also experience ear canals that are itchy, painful, or more prone to infection.

When reviewing your concerns with your doctor, discuss home remedy ideas to see if they’re the correct course of action for your situation.

The London-born star found fame in the 1960s with the release of her single ‘As Tears Go By’, becoming one of the lead female artists during the British Invasion in the United States.

News of her death was confirmed by her spokesperson, who said in a statement on Thursday: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of the singer, songwriter, and actress Marianne Faithful.

“Marianne passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family. She will be dearly missed.”

Faithfull’s best-known hit, ‘As Tears Go By’, was written by the Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards and Mick Jagger, the latter of whom she was in a relationship with for several years.

Faithfull had met the Rolling Stones’ manager, Andrew Loog Oldham, who’d set her up with Jagger and Richards, starting her successful career with several Top 10 singles in the UK, which also charted in the US.

She married artist John Dunbar in 1965, with the couple going on to have a son, but left Dunbar for Jagger, dating him for four years before they split.

Jagger, 81, shared his heartbreak at the news of Faithfull’s death, writing on Instagram: “I am so saddened to hear of the death of Marianne Faithfull.

“She was so much part of my life for so long. She was a wonderful friend, a beautiful singer and a great actress. She will always be remembered.”

Richards also shared a photo of them together, sharing a toast in more recent years, writing: “My heartfelt condolences to Marianne’s family! I am so sad and will miss her!! Love, Keith.”

Faithfull was known as a muse for the band, reportedly inspiring the Rolling Stones’ song ‘Wild Horses’ after once telling Jagger: “Wild horses couldn’t drag me away.”

Her struggles with drug addiction were also said to be the inspiration for the songs ‘Dear Doctor’ and ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’.

Faithfull previously said: “I know they used me as a muse for those tough drug songs. I knew I was being used, but it was for a worthy cause.”

According to the Guardian, as Faithfull’s addiction to cocaine and heroin worsened, she was once found naked, wrapped in a fur rug alongside Jagger, Richards, and six other men by police in 1967, who’d raided Richards’ home.

She later said: “It destroyed me. To be a male drug addict and to act like that is always enhancing and glamorizing. A woman in that situation becomes a slut and a bad mother.”

By the early 1970s, Faithfull had broken up with Jagger, lost custody of her son, and found herself homeless and living on the streets of Soho, London, as she tried to get clean from drugs.

Faithfull revealed that this time in her life led her to see that she’d been living in a “very fake sort of world in the ’60s”, and showed her the kindness of ordinary people, as a local Chinese restaurant allowed her to wash her clothes there, while a man working on a tea stall gave her cups of tea.

She managed to turn her life around and returned to music with a country album in 1976 titled Dreamin’ My Dreams, before quitting drugs for good in 1985.

Faithfull continued to release music as well as acting, and went on to get married and divorced twice more, first to Ben Brierly of the punk band the Vibrators and then to actor Giorgio Della Terza.

In her later life, Faithfull lived in Paris and had undergone several health battles including a successful surgery for breast cancer in 2006. She also announced in 2007 that she had hepatitis C, having been diagnosed 12 years before.

Faithfull is survived by her son, Nicholas Dunbar.

Our thoughts remain with her family, friends, and fans at this heartbreaking time.
