Why Marlo Thomas Refused to Become ‘Mom’ of Phil Donahue’s 5 Kids – What Do They Look Like?

Marlo Thomas surprised many when she embraced marriage after years of skepticism, especially becoming a stepmother to Phil Donahue’s five children. Discover how she forged deep bonds with them over their 44-year marriage and see what they all look like today.

Marlo Thomas and Phil Donahue shared a remarkable journey marked by a deep love that lasted over four decades. Their enduring marriage came to an end when Phil, the celebrated television host, passed away on August 18, 2024, at 88.

His death marked the conclusion of an era, leaving behind a legacy in broadcasting and a profound impact on those who knew him. As Marlo navigates this difficult time, she reflects on the life they built together — a life that included their partnership and the blended family that became such a vital part of her world.

Marlo, a famous actress and advocate, once believed that marriage was not for her. She famously compared the institution to a form of imprisonment, quipping that it was like “living with a jailer you have to please.”

In her 2020 book, “What Makes a Marriage Last: 40 Celebrated Couples Share with Us the Secrets to a Happy Life,” which she co-wrote with her husband, Phil, the “Reunion” actress reflected on how she used to feel about marriage.

“Marriage didn’t seem like a roomy enough place for me,” Marlo admitted. She even joked that marriage could suck the energy and ambition out of a person like a vacuum cleaner. Despite these strong feelings, everything changed when she met Phil.

Phil, the creator and host of “The Phil Donahue Show,” was a father of five when he married Marlo on May 21, 1980. At 42 years old, Marlo had never had children of her own, and marrying Phil made her a stepmother to his kids.

This was a big change because it challenged how she felt about marriage and put her in a role she never thought she would have.

Marlo decided from the start that she wouldn’t take on the role of a mother to Phil’s children. In an interview from May 2011, she shared, “From the very first day, I decided that I was not going to try to be a ‘mother’ to Phil’s children in the traditional sense — they already had a mom — but, instead, to be their friend.”

Marlo wanted to be more like how her mother had been to her and her siblings — a friend they could talk to and trust.

“When I was growing up, my mother was always a friend to my siblings and me (in addition to being all the other things a mom is), and I was always grateful for that because I knew she was someone I could talk to and joke with, and argue with and that nothing would ever harm that friendship,” said Marlo.

While discussing her relationship with her stepchildren, Marlo expressed, “So I used that model with Phil’s kids, and I’m proud to say that the friendships I established with them are as strong today as they were 30 years ago — even stronger.”

What Do Phil Donahue’s Five Kids Look Like?

Phil was often hailed as the “King of Daytime Talk.” He married his college sweetheart, Margaret Cooney, soon after they graduated in 1958. Together, they welcomed five children before their marriage ended in 1975. Today, Phil’s children: Michael, Kevin, Daniel, Mary Rose, and James, each have their own unique lives and stories.

In a social media post shared in June 2021, Marlo paid a heartfelt Father’s Day tribute to Phil, including a snapshot that featured Phil, his sons, and one of his grandsons.

The post quickly caught the attention of social media users, who flooded the comments with compliments about the Donahue men.

“Great pic of some handsome Irishman!🍀,” one user remarked. Another user chimed in with, “Wow! They look great,” while yet another added, “Handsome men💙,” echoing the admiration for the Donahue sons.

Here’s a closer look at Phil’s five children and what they look like today.

Michael Donahue

Michael Donahue, Phil’s eldest son, has built a successful career in the television industry while also cultivating a fulfilling personal life. In January 1991, The New York Times announced his engagement to Martha Reed von Gal, a youth counselor at Communities for People in Medford, Massachusetts.

She is known simply as Reed and is a graduate of Greenwich Academy and St. Michael’s College. At the time of their engagement, Michael, then 31, worked as a marketing consultant for WTNH-TV in New Haven. He had graduated from New Trier East High School in Winnetka, Illinois, and the University of Colorado at Boulder.

The couple married in April 1991 and welcomed two children: a son, Connor, and a daughter, Kenzie. Michael’s career continued to progress, beginning as an account executive for Katz American TV in 1986.

He worked at several television stations from 1990 to 1997 before joining Fox Station Sales as a sales manager. Later, he served as a sales manager at Petry Television before rejoining Katz in 2004 as a sales manager for Continental in Boston.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Michael enjoys a close-knit relationship with his stepmother, Marlo, and this is evident from their candid family moments.

Marlo also shares a special bond with Michael’s kids. The “That Girl” actress’s affection for her step-grandchildren is evident in her public posts.

In August 2019, Marlo shared a warm Instagram post featuring her grandson Connor, whom she lovingly referred to as her “soulmate.”

The post included a candid photo of Marlo sharing a joyful moment with Connor. A second image showed Connor’s mom, Reed, smiling with her father-in-law, Phil.

Marlo’s connection with Kenzie is equally strong. In a Facebook post from March 2015, Marlo celebrated Kenzie’s 18th birthday, reflecting on how she had grown since Marlo first held her as a baby.

“Kenzie is not my [biological] grandchild. But I love her as I do all my biological nieces and nephews,” Marlo wrote, highlighting the deep bond she shares with both Kenzie and Connor.

A photo accompanying the post captured Marlo holding a plate of birthday cupcakes, with Kenzie and Connor smiling beside her.

Kevin Donahue

He is Phil’s second son and has shared many memorable moments with his father and stepmother, Marlo, over the years. Kevin, an avid runner, has participated in several marathons, including the renowned New York City Marathon.

In a Facebook post from November 2013, Marlo proudly shared Kevin’s marathon achievements, noting that his time for the ING New York City Marathon that year was 4:12. Remarkably, Kevin has run this marathon in his 30s, 40s, and 50s, with his best time of 3:32 achieved in Stockholm in 1996.

Beyond his athletic pursuits, Kevin has enjoyed numerous outings with Phil and Marlo. One such occasion was in 2011 when the trio spent a day on their boat in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

Marlo shared a light-hearted Facebook post from that day, playfully noting how “all the Donahues have white hair!” The family’s bond is evident in the shared experiences that Marlo frequently documents on her social media.

Another memorable family outing took place in August 2013, when Marlo, Phil, and Kevin made a special trip to the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. Marlo captured the moment with a candid shot of the three of them, proudly posing with the New York City skyline in the background.

In her post, Marlo mentioned their accomplishment of walking the 350 steps to the pedestal and how they paused to catch their breath afterward.

Daniel Donahue

Phil’s third son, shares a strong bond with his family, frequently joining his father, brothers, and stepmother Marlo for special occasions. In a Facebook post from November 2012, Marlo shared a warm Thanksgiving celebration at their home, featuring the Donahue men — Phil, Kevin, and Daniel.

“Thanksgiving at our house. Phil, two of his sons Kevin & Dan, me and a gorgeous brown turkey! Hope you had a Happy Turkey Day, too!” she wrote, capturing the joy of the holiday.

Daniel has also appeared in other family photos shared by Marlo, highlighting the close-knit nature of the Donahue clan. In an Instagram post from 2021, Marlo posted a picture showing the gray-haired Donahue men, except for her black-haired grandson, Connor, standing out among the group.

Mary Rose Donahue

She is Phil’s only daughter and had a different childhood experience compared to her brothers. After Phil and his first wife Margaret’s divorce, the custody arrangements saw her living with her mother while Phil retained custody of their four sons.

Despite this, Mary Rose maintained a close relationship with her father and stepmom. Marlo has also often expressed affection for Mary Rose through her social media posts.

In August 2011, Marlo shared a proud moment on Facebook, highlighting Mary Rose’s budding passion for the culinary arts. The post described a weekend visit to the renowned Toppers restaurant in Nantucket, where Mary Rose received some valuable tips from the restaurant’s chef, Tom Pearson.

The accompanying photo showed Mary Rose smiling as she stood next to Chef Tom, capturing her enthusiasm for her new culinary journey.

As with Phil’s other children, Marlo’s bond with Mary Rose is evident in the many family moments they have shared. Whether celebrating Christmas as a family or enjoying candid moments, the 86-year-old star’s relationship with her stepdaughter is one of warmth and mutual respect.

These glimpses into their lives show the strong and loving connection between Mary Rose and her extended family, highlighting their joy in each other’s company.

James ‘Jim’ Donahue

Jim, as he was popularly called, was Phil’s youngest child. He tragically passed away on August 11, 2014, at 51, due to an aortic aneurysm. He had built a life and career in Honolulu and was a practicing lawyer. He dedicated much of his professional life to working for a Ralph Nader group company, where he served as an investigative researcher and writer for over 20 years.

Jim and his siblings spent their early years in Dayton, Ohio, when their father, Phil, was at the beginning of his broadcast career and developing his groundbreaking talk show.

Despite the family’s public life, Jim was known for his independent spirit and strong character, traits that made him a beloved figure within the Donahue family.

In a heartfelt message to friends following Jim’s passing, Marlo described him as “a great light in our family, a funny character, and an independent spirit.”

After his death, Jim was cremated, and in a gesture of love and remembrance, his family scattered his ashes in the warm and tranquil waters of Honolulu — a place he cherished deeply and where he will forever rest in peace.

Marlo Thomas’ journey from a marriage skeptic to a devoted wife and stepmother illustrates the transformative power of love and family. As she mourns the recent loss of her beloved husband, Phil Donahue, Marlo finds comfort in the deep bonds she formed with his children.

These relationships, built over decades, stand as a testament to the strength of their blended family, offering solace and unity during this challenging time.

Pete Davidson has dated the likes of Kim Kardashian, Kate Beckinsale and Emily Ratajkowski

Pete Davidson has opened up about the struggles of dating famous people in Hollywood.

Whilst constantly dating beautiful women might not seem like the worst thing in the world, the SNL star insists that it’s not what you think.

The comedian, 31, most recently dated Outer Banks star Madelyn Cline, and their relationship ended last summer.

“Now, over the last 6 months, I’m not dating,” he told Page Six. “I’m starting to turn my life around.”

Davidson – who has now removed almost all of his tattoos – says he’s also on a deep cleanse from women, social media and drugs.

Explaining how difficult he’s found dating famous women, the actor said: “It was pretty humiliating and upsetting, honestly.

“Everyone is dating everyone and it’s Hollywood. Look at Paul Mescal, Timmy [Chalamet], Barry Keoghan.

“But because I’m ugly, they wrote about me. I was harassed for like five years and it made my life a living hell.

“It’s embarrassing because you want people to write about your work.

“I was one of the youngest ever cast members on SNL and all that got pushed to the side because of who I was dating.”

Davidson was briefly engaged to pop star and actor Ariana Grande for around four months in 2018.

“When we see each other, which is few and far between, because we’re not in the same circles, it’s all love,” he explained, adding that he’s rooting for her at the Oscars.

“I hope she wins the Oscar [for Wicked], I hope she takes the gold,” Davidson continued.

“I’ve had some pretty adult relationships with some pretty amazing women, and when it’s ended it’s been cool.”

Davidson was just seven years old when his father Scott Matthew Davidson, who was a firefighter during 9/11, died.

“I had someone in my family say something to me one of the last times I went away [to rehab],” he added.

“They said, ‘I’m so afraid to look at an article to see that you’re gone,’ and that kind of hit me in the balls.

“It made me be like, showbiz is not my life anymore. If I get to do it, great. But I’m someone’s son, brother, friend, grandson.

“That’s the most important thing and I lost sight of that. I got lost in the Hollywood bubble. Honestly, I think that people shouldn’t be able to become famous until they’re at least 30, when they’re ready and they know how to behave.”

Laura Whitmore shares last message she received from Caroline Flack on anniversary of death

Caroline Flack took her own life on 15 February 2020

Warning: This article contains discussion of suicide which some readers may find distressing.

Laura Whitmore has shared the last messages she received from Caroline Flack before the TV presenter died by suicide.

Love Island presenter Flack was found dead in her home on 15 February 2020, with her family representatives saying she had taken her own life, which was supported by an inquest into the 40-year-old’s death.

Two months prior she had been charged with assaulting her boyfriend Lewis Burton, and days later stood down from her TV presenting role on the ITV2 dating show so she would ‘not detract attention from the upcoming series’.

Her replacement in the role was Laura Whitmore, who today (15 February) has posted on social media the last messages she received from Flack after she’d said it’d be her getting the Love Island job.

Whitmore said she’d got a new phone and had seen a lot of old messages, including the ones Flack had sent to her.

“I got a new phone this month and as I was trying to download WhatsApp messages from my cloud loads of old messages came up,” Whitmore wrote in a post on Instagram.

“Ones I thought I lost a few years ago and no longer had. It really hit me hard.

“Looking at messages I’ve never publicly shared as they were private messages. Media outlets wrote a lot far from the actual truth.

“I think they show a side to Caroline which is nice to remember. Hence I’m sharing now.”

In the messages, dated 18 December the day after Caroline Flack said she was stepping down from Love Island, Flack told Whitmore ‘I hope you are doing the job’ and that she ‘wouldn’t want it to be anyone else’.

Whitmore told her that she had been offered the role and wanted to tell Flack first, to which the TV presenter said she was ‘glad’ it was Whitmore getting the job.

The pair had first met in 2011 when Whitmore succeeded Flack in the presenting gig on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! NOW!

The 39-year-old said Flack had been ‘as supportive of me doing that role back then as she was when she supported me doing Love Island in 2020′.

She said: “I will always be so thankful of the last messages between me and Caroline.

“Every time I’ve been asked to speak about the situation or be part of a documentary I decline.

“I’ve already said all I can say on the tragedy and don’t want words to be misconstrued and need to look after my own mental health.

“This was the last correspondence I ever had with her. The last message from her to me were love hearts.

“I’d like to think wherever she is now, she’s at peace and somewhere lovely like I hoped.”

Martin Lewis' warning to every unmarried couple in UK could apply to many partners after Valentine's Day

Martin Lewis’ warning to every unmarried couple in UK could apply to many partners after Valentine’s Day

Martin Lewis' warning to every unmarried couple in UK could apply to many partners after Valentine's Day

The warning is a rather glum follow-up to Valentine’s Day

Couples who marked Valentine’s Day by getting engaged or moving in together should listen up, as Martin Lewis has some stern advice for you.

The financial journalist and broadcaster is considered to be somewhat of an oracle when it comes to all things money saving, with the 52-year-old always looking out for ways in which we could be saving or stretching our money.

Whether that’s ways to double your time off work, ‘haggling’ to get the best deals on mobile phone or TV contracts, or even tips on how to beat the family in a game of Monopoly.

Saving the nation money since 1972 (ITV)

Saving the nation money since 1972 (ITV)

When it comes to affairs of the financial kind, whatever Lewis recommends is what we usually do.

And he has a piece of advice which is particularly applicable to those amongst us who are enjoying a romantic Valentine’s weekend. Dishing out the advice on a romantic special of his The Martin Lewis Money Show on Thursday, February 13.

“All the benefits start the day you’re married,” Lewis explained, adding that marriage was ‘absolutely’ worth it in terms of financial benefits.

“None of these apply if you’re just living together,” he continued.

“I don’t care whether you’ve lived together for 20 years, it doesn’t make any difference, I don’t care if you’ve got kids, it doesn’t make any difference. This is about marriage and civil partnerships.”

Lewis also urged couples in a long-term relationship who aren’t interested in the idea of marriage to consider getting a civil partnership as it comes with the same ‘legal and tax benefits’.

“No difference between the two, no difference at all,” he added.

Lewis then went on to explain how marriage is fiscally beneficial from the get-go, revealing that couples could be eligible for a £1,260 marriage or civil partnership tax break (as long as you’re under the age of 90). Couples can also maximise their savings and financial protection should the relationship fail.

More importantly, being married is also critical should one partner pass away, as it allows the surviving spouse more protection.

Which isn’t the most romantic of notions, but it’s certainly something you need to consider.

“When marriage really counts is when you die,” he explained.

The situation becomes even more complicated if an unmarried person dies without a will, as it could leave the surviving partner without access to inheritance or even their home.

“Unmarried couple? That often means diddly squat in law,” Lewis said of the topic back in October.

“Get a will, a contract, a civil partnership or tie the knot. So, you’ve been together decades and have a dozen children – in inheritance law, so what?

He continued: “If you’re not married or don’t have a formal civil partnership, your relationship usually has no status. So if your partner dies, the other one may not get the house. That makes a will even more important here.”

Elon Musk's dad makes cruel claim about the sudden death of his grandson

Elon Musk and ex-wife Justine’s first child died in 2002

Elon Musk’s father has made a cruel claim about the sudden death of his grandson.

The Tesla founder, 53, shares his eldest children with his ex-wife Justine, as the pair were married from 2000 to 2008.

Twins Vivian and Griffin were born in 2004, while triplets Kal, Saxon and Damian were born in 2006.

However, their first child, Nevada, tragically passed away from sudden infant death syndrome at just 10 weeks old in 2002.

During an episode of South African podcast Wide AwakeMusk’s father Errol claimed that Nevada spent ‘too much time’ in the care of nannies.

“The first child was too much with nannies,” he said.

“If Elon hears this he’s gonna shoot me or something, but anyway, that’s what I think.

“They were too rich, [had] too many nannies… then he had five children with the same woman – five sons all brought up, each one had its own nanny. You following me?

“When they got divorced, the nannies were six on this side and six on that side. So it was a really weird situation.”

Musk previously addressed his child’s death in a tweet, which read: “My firstborn child died in my arms. I felt his last heartbeat.

“I have no mercy for anyone who would use the deaths of children for gain, politics or fame.”

Wilson said of her child’s death in a 2010 essay for Marie Claire: “Nevada went down for a nap, placed on his back as always, and stopped breathing. By the time the paramedics resuscitated him, he had been deprived of oxygen for so long that he was brain-dead.

“He spent three days on life support in a hospital in Orange County before we made the decision to take him off it. I held him in my arms when he died.”

This comes as author Ashley St. Clair claimed she had given birth to Musk’s 13th child five months ago, adding: “I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child’s privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause.

“I intend to allow our child to grow in a normal and safe environment.”

The Tesla CEO has faced more intense public scrutiny than ever after President Trump appointed him to a newly created role in his government, with an aim to overhaul public spending and bureaucracy.

Musk’s daughter Vivian slammed her father after he was accused of doing a Nazi salute at Donald Trump’s inauguration last month (January 20).

Without naming her dad, she tweeted: “I’m just gonna say let’s call a spade a f**king spade.

“Especially if there were two spades done in succession based on the reaction of the first spade.”

She added: “I don’t know why y’all are reacting with such vigour, I’m clearly only talking about card suits.

“I mean I have ADHD and this was CLEARLY just an accident that people happened to interpret to mean something other than just card suits.

“After all, there’s no proof I’m not just talking about card suits. Y’know… people assuming that I’m not just talking about card suits just goes to show how dishonest people/the media can be.

“For those who can read between the lines, do y’all understand how f**king easy this is to do? “Plausible deniability honey. Just saying.”

Musk has denied the claims he made an antisemitic gesture, writing on X: “Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired.”

Michael J Fox Has Been Married to His Wife for 36 Years, and She Became His Greatest Support After His Diagnosis – Pics of the Beauty

Michael J. Fox once said he would “be dead” without his longtime wife. Meet the woman who has been his rock and with whom he shares four grown children who have since left the nest.

Michael J. Fox, an award-winning actor, rose to fame in “Family Ties,” where he met his wife of over 30 years. She has stood by his side as he battles an incurable condition, for which he founded an organization dedicated to finding a cure.

Fox’s journey to stardom wasn’t without challenges, even before meeting his wife. In Apple TV+’s documentary, “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie,” the Canadian native reflected on the struggles he faced after moving to the US.

“It was a tough few years. We didn’t have a lot of money. I was dumpster diving because I knew the grocery store would throw baked goods out. We’d steal jam and peanut butter from the IHOP or Denny’s. It was a tough existence,” he revealed in an interview.

However, his fortunes changed swiftly, “In a relatively short period of time, I was famous and I was the biggest movie star in the world… It was crazy. It made no sense.”

The actor’s meteoric rise to fame began on the set of “Family Ties,” the ’80s hit sitcom where he played Alex P. Keaton. It was there that he met his future wife, who joined the show as his character’s love interest, Ellen Reed, but soon became much more in his life.

Recalling their first meeting, Fox described her as “interesting.” Over time, their connection deepened as she “kind of steered me in the right direction,” he said. Within a year, the pair tied the knot in July 1988.

Their life together took a challenging turn not long after, when Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at 29—a moment he described as the point when “it got interesting.”

When he broke the news to his newlywed wife, she responded with unwavering resolve, “In sickness or in health.” For Fox, hearing those words brought him a “tremendous relief.”

The Hollywood star revealed how he coped with the diagnosis, “I was just clearly using alcohol to cover the disease. I had a really difficult time, but the reason I shared this is this is part of the deal.”

Fox’s struggles with his diagnosis and reliance on alcohol reached a pivotal moment that tested their relationship. In a joint interview, he recalled waking up with a hangover, expecting his wife to be upset. Instead, the actress’s reaction was far more unsettling—she seemed bored. “I didn’t scream. I wasn’t angry, I was kind of feeling done,” she admitted.

Despite this, the couple overcame their challenges, drawing strength from humor. Fox credited his wife’s humor and practicality for helping him navigate the more difficult moments of his condition.

He admitted that his stubbornness about maintaining independence left him feeling he had let down his patient family. For the first time, the celebrity struggled to mask his challenges with positivity, describing how he felt consumed by self-pity and began questioning the optimism that had always defined him.

That said, his spouse’s ability to bring levity to challenging situations has been a constant source of comfort, allowing them to face the tough times with laughter before addressing the heavier realities.

Fox, who has since been sober, acknowledged that laughter, though difficult at times, remains his go-to response. “It’s just looking for joy in things,” he shared, adding that having a supportive family makes all the difference.

The actor admitted that he would “be dead” without his better half. In another interview, he reflected on how deeply he values his wife’s unwavering support, recalling the moment she accepted his diagnosis without hesitation. She has remained steadfast ever since, a presence he described as essential.

Moreover, his ability to find meaning in hardship has shaped his outlook on life. He calls his Parkinson’s diagnosis “the best thing” that happened to him, “I was part of a community, a family of people who had the same disease. It changed my life. It made me.”

Driven by this perspective on the incurable disease, the activist founded the Michael J. Fox foundation that has raised over $2 billion to date. Fox considers his true legacy to be the impact he has had on individuals facing similar struggles.

The movie star, who considers his condition a non-fatal disease, has spoken about how his openness has helped reduce the stigma and isolation for others living with Parkinson’s.

He shared a story about a woman who, years ago, felt unable to shop because her symptoms made her fear judgment. Knowing that someone like Fox faced the same challenges has given people comfort and understanding, calling it a “huge” contribution.

This profound impact on others has been a cornerstone of Fox’s journey, even as he faces new personal challenges. In his memoir, “No Time Like the Future,” he shared his decision to retire from acting due to Parkinson’s disease.

After initially retiring at 40, he later returned to acclaimed roles on “The Good Wife,” “Rescue Me,” and “The Good Fight.” Now, he focuses on embracing optimism, viewing hope and perseverance as the only path forward.

Fox’s decision to prioritize positive thinking also shapes his family life, which has been a source of joy and stability. Married to actress Tracy Pollan for 36 years, they share four children: Sam, 35; twins Schuyler and Aquinnah, 29; and Esmé, 23.

Though the longtime lovebirds are now empty nesters, Pollan once shared that one of their children is usually home at any given time.

In a 2023 interview, her famous husband reflected on the key to their enduring marriage, emphasizing the importance of giving each other space to make mistakes and avoiding unnecessary conflict. He described their bond, “That’s what’s beautiful about marriage, it’s us two.”

A site has been set up to keep people informed of developments in Luigi Mangione’s case

Luigi Mangione has spoke out for the first time from prison after being charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Thompson was gunned down just outside his hotel in New York City, prompting a manhunt for his killer which ended in a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania where Mangione was arrested.

Mangione has been charged with first-degree murder and issued a plea of not guilty to the criminal counts against him, which include the charge that he committed murder as an act of terrorism.

Since his incarceration there has not been much of an opportunity for Mangione to speak out, though he did at one point shout ‘it’s completely out of touch and an insult to the intelligence of the American people and their lived experience’ while being moved by officers.

Now his team have released a statement from him while he’s in jail in which he has thanked everyone who has offered him their support.

A website has been set up for people interested in Mangione’s case and want to monitor all of the official updates, including a statement from the man himself.

“Powerfully, this support has transcended political, racial, and even class divisions, as mail has flooded MDC from across the country, and around the globe.

“While it is impossible for me to reply to most letters, please know that I read every one that I receive.

“Thank you again to everyone who took the time to write. I look forward to hearing more in the future.”

Over $400,000 (£317,000) has been raised in public donations to help fund Mangione’s legal defence, and his representatives said he ‘very much appreciates the outpouring of support’.

His legal team has accepted the donations from over 10,000 members of the public and said the money will go towards paying Mangione’s legal costs.

Mangione’s case is very divisive. He is charged with murdering Brian Thompson, but there are some in the US who bear no love for the health insurance industry.

Bullet casings recovered from the site of the shooting were etched with the words ‘Deny’, ‘Depose, and ‘Defend’, which appears to echo the title of a book about the US health insurance system titled Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance companies don’t pay claims and what you can do about it.

This Iconic Actress Lost Daughter & Helped Raise Her Grandkids – See How She’s Doing Today

This legendary actress faced unimaginable loss yet stepped up to care for her family, proving resilience in the face of so much pain.

Through a six-decade career, this star became one of the most celebrated celebrities in film and theater. But beyond her accolades, she endured a profound personal tragedy. When her daughter passed away unexpectedly, she took on the role of caregiver for her grandsons, helping her son-in-law and showing the strength that has defined her life both on and off the screen.

Her Six-Decade Career

Born in Greenwich, London, to a family of esteemed actors, Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, this star was destined for greatness. Legendary British actor and director, Laurence Olivier, even recognized her potential on the night of her birth, proclaiming, “Tonight a great actress was born.”

Over the decades, she has more than lived up to this expectation, although initially, she considered a career in ballet. Instead, this star pursued acting and made her West End debut in 1958.

By the 1960s, she was an acclaimed figure on the London stage, with standout performances in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “All’s Well That Ends Well,” and “The Seagull.”

By the end of that decade, her film career took off with roles in “Morgan!” (1966), “Blow-Up” (1966), and “A Man for All Seasons” (1966). She continued to gain prominence with “Camelot” (1967) and “Isadora” (1968), earning even more critical acclaim.

Despite her success in entertainment, this actress became known for her outspoken political activism, which led to several professional setbacks. Nevertheless, she continued to secure roles in films like “Murder on the Orient Express” (1974) and “Playing for Time” (1980).

Throughout the years, she balanced theater, film, and television, with highlights including “Howards End” (1992), “Mission: Impossible” (1996), and “Atonement” (2007).

The Triple Crown of Acting

In 2003, this actress achieved the rare feat of winning an Oscar, an Emmy, and a Tony. She won an Academy Award in 1978 for “Julia” (1977), and gave an impassioned speech, mentioning several of the causes close to her heart.

Later, she got an Emmy for “Playing for Time” in 1981, then a second Emmy for “If These Walls Could Talk 2” in 2000, and finally, her Tony in 2003 for “Long Day’s Journey Into Night.” She remains one of the few actors to achieve this feat.

Her Personal Life

This star has been married twice. Her first marriage was to Tony Richardson, whom she wed on April 29, 1962. Their marriage ended in divorce on April 28, 1967. During their time together, they had two daughters, Natasha and Joely.

Her second marriage was to Italian actor, Franco Nero. They married on December 31, 2006, and are still together to this day. They have one child together, Carlo Gabriel Nero.

Her Daughter’s Tragic Passing

In 2009, tragedy struck when her eldest daughter, Natasha Richardson, who was also an actress, died from head injuries sustained in a skiing accident in Quebec. Initially, the 45-year-old showed no signs of injury, but her condition rapidly deteriorated.

Her husband, actor Liam Neeson, rushed to her side, as did his two sons and his legendary mother-in-law. Natasha was flown to a New York hospital, where she unfortunately passed away.

Neeson and the family were devastated. A neurosurgeon later explained that even a minor head injury can become fatal if internal bleeding goes undetected.

An Excellent Mother-In-Law

Following Natasha’s passing, this star stepped in to help raise her grandsons. In 2014, Neeson expressed his gratitude, revealing that she frequently cared for the boys while he was away for work.

“I have a great support team,” the “Schindler’s List” actor added. “If I’m away on a project, my mother-in-law moves in.” Though life as a single father was a balancing act for Neeson, his sons always had the unwavering support of their legendary grandmother.

Her New Take on Life

Six years after losing her daughter, the actress suffered a heart attack in 2015. Alone in her London flat, she mustered enough strength to call her son, Carlo, who quickly arranged for an ambulance. Emergency surgery saved her life, though doctors found that one of her arteries was completely blocked.

“I have a new understanding, a new take on life,” she later reflected. “Before this, I didn’t care at all. Now I find myself thinking what a miracle it all is.”

Her health struggles also led to the diagnosis of emphysema, a condition she attributes to years of smoking. Despite her diminished lung capacity, she continued to work and advocate for humanitarian causes.

Where Is She Now?

This legendary actress is none other than Vanessa Redgrave, and she’s still working today. At 80, she made her directorial debut with “Sea Sorrow,” a documentary about the refugee crisis.

This deeply personal project released in 2017 blended history with modern narratives and urged European politicians to take action regarding refugees running from war zones. Her film included heart-wrenching accounts from young people and referenced Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” to highlight the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Her approach was direct and urgent, differing from more abstract documentaries. She made a compelling case for empathy, arguing that societies often forget their own refugee histories. Though “Sea Sorrow” was not a commercial film, it was a powerful statement of her continued activism.

An Impossible Pain to Overcome

In 2019, Redgrave spoke candidly about her grief, stating that time does not heal the loss of her daughter. “It never becomes OK,” she admitted to People.

Her younger daughter, Joely, who is also an actress, added, “You aren’t stronger or weaker, just different—changed.”

Despite the heartbreak, they have remained a close, supportive family. “In my case, I treasure my family much, much more,” Redgrave continued. “Because you realize that the difference between being alive and dead is the difference of a little fingernail.”

Her Recent Christmas Message

At 87, Redgrave shared a rare public message during the 2023 holiday season. In a video posted by her younger daughter, she sent love to mothers and children suffering from war, expressing regret that she could do little more than offer her heartfelt support.

“I send my love—it can’t do anything for you. I wish it could. Bless you. Thank you for your love, and I send you every bit I’ve got, except for the bit I save for my family,” she said.

The video touched many of Joely’s followers. One netizen wrote“Beautiful message from a truly wonderful lady. Brought tears to my eyes.” Another added, “Wow. That winded me. What a beautiful statement. 😭”

On January 30, 2025, the actress turned 88, and many online users paid tribute on several social media. One wrote“Happy 88th birthday, Vanessa Redgrave!” and included footage from her performance in the film “The Devils” from 1971.

Other netizens reacted to the clip, with one replying“Legendary actress, truly timeless 💖 [sic].” Another added, “Wow! Vanessa Redgrave, your acting skills are amazing.”

From an extraordinary acting career to personal hardships, Vanessa Redgrave has remained unwavering in her commitments to family, humanitarian causes, and the arts. Through loss and health struggles, she continues to inspire, proving that resilience and love can carry one through even the darkest times.

The X owner and Presidential ‘first buddy’ has allegedly expanded his large brood of children

Elon Musk has reportedly become a father for the 13th time!

The Tesla and SpaceX has made no secret of his views when it comes to being a father and has previously welcomed children with ex-wife Justine Wilson, musician Grimes and Neuralink director Shivon Zilis.

And it would now appear that Musk (who hasn’t confirmed the news himself) can add children’s author Ashley St. Clair to his growing list of ‘baby mammas’ — according to a statement issued by the writer on social media.

Taking to X, St. Clair issued the statement, in which she claimed to have welcomed a child five months ago and that Musk was, in fact, the infant’s father.

“Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father. I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child’s privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause,” her statement read.

Going on to ask for her child’s privacy to be respected, she added: “I intend to allow our child to grow in a normal and safe environment. For that reason, I ask that the media honour our child’s privacy, and refrain from invasive reporting.”

Musk is yet to comment publicly on the announcement.

The author later followed up her original statement by thanking people for their ‘kind words’ before adding that she would be ‘logging off for a while’.

Musk first became a father in 2002, welcoming a son called Nevada with Canadian author and then-wife Wilson. However, the child would devastatingly pass away just 10 weeks after birth. The couple went on to have five more children – twins Vivian and Griffin, 20, and triplets Kai, Saxon and Damian, 19 – together.

The billionaire also shares three children with Grimes – real name Claire Boucher – sons X Æ A-Xii (pronounced ‘X Ash A Twelve’) and Tau Techno Mechanicus as well as daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, the latter two of whom were born via a surrogate.

Musk is regularly spotted at events with his and Grimes’ eldest child, nicknamed X, prompting backlash from the ‘Oblivion’ singer.

During a period of ‘semi-separation’ from the singer, the 53-year-old welcomed twins Strider and Azure in June 2021, born slightly before Exa, and a third child, whose name has not been revealed, in 2024.

Man who refused to split £3,500 birthday dinner bill shares what they all ordered to prove his point

The YouTuber wanted to clear things up after viral videos

Going for a big meal with your pals is all fun and games until it comes to the absolute nightmare that is paying at the end.

There’s always that one friend who just doesn’t agree with everyone else on how it should be split, and the poor waiter ends up awkwardly standing there while you bicker.

And one group’s dinner bill fiasco went viral after a man shared videos of them arguing over how to pay back in 2023.

Content creator Vic Gotti, who refused to split the £3,500 [$4,600] birthday dinner bill, shared what food and drink they all ordered to prove his point.

The man took to YouTube after TikTok clips saw some people insisting that splitting the bill was fairest, others refusing to even think about going Dutch, while the birthday girl refused to cough up altogether.

She fumed: “Like it’s my f**king birthday, why the f**k should I have to pay for something on my birthday?”

Other attendees weren’t convinced by this argument with Gotti yelling: “Y’all doing way too much.

“We didn’t order all that. I’m not paying for this baby girl.”

In response, another man challenged him: “What’s the point in getting food if you can’t pay for it?!” So obviously, things got heated.

Explaining himself in a follow up video, Gotti said: “I see that stuff is expensive, this is my first time in this restaurant.

“It’s not even that I’m cheap, I just don’t know what I want to order.

“I go ahead and I get the calamari and the sprite.”

Turning to three of his friends sitting in on the video, he asks them what they tucked into.

The first admits to getting the duck tacos, calamari and a drink.

Gotti claims that other people in the group were splurging on bottles of champagne and lamb chop steaks.

Gotti ranted: “Y’all wondering how it got up to $4,600.”

Although one of his friends insisted Gotti was ‘drinking like he was out of the ocean’, even asserting that he downed half a bottle.

In response, Gotti explained: “I thought it was free. We all thought it was free.”

It’s a mistake anyone could have made, right? Because restaurants famously love giving out champagne for nothing, obviously.

Gotti continued: “They kept ordering stuff. Ordering multiple desserts.

“We were having bottles of water, they were having bottles of wine!

“When the bill came, I said I’d pay for what I ordered, and they proceeded to call me broke.”

Well, hopefully the group goes somewhere a little cheaper and perhaps more user-friendly for the next birthday.
