Movie fans have now spotted the curious act

Just when you thought you couldn’t dislike Aunt Petunia any more, some eagle-eyed Harry Potter fans have picked up what she’s actually doing in one of her first scenes in the series.

Petunia, the wife of Vernon and mother of Dudley, takes in her nephew Harry as a baby after his parents are killed by Lord Voldemort, but she certainly doesn’t deserve ‘Cool Auntie’ status given the way she treats him for all seven books and eight films.

Poor Harry is forced to live in a spider-ridden cupboard under the stairs and is constantly reminded that his parents were supposedly ‘freaks’, all while being forced to earn his keep through cooking and cleaning.

The films, which are of course based on the novels by J.K. Rowling, often omit some major details you read about in the books (shout out to Sir Cadogan, Winky and Peeves, who never quite made the final cut in the film).

In the original 2001 film The Philosopher’s Stone, the abusive aunt can be seen in the kitchen when Harry receives his first of many letters from Hogwarts, inviting him to start his magical education away from the dreadful Dursley’s.

Over on Reddit, fans are pointing out just what she is actually doing with the pot.

Sharing the details with other Potterheads, one wrote: “In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Aunt Petunia is visible in the background of this scene dyeing Dudley’s old clothes grey for Harry’s uniform.

“This is only ever mentioned in the book.”

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Petunia was perhaps making a stew or soup in the pot, as I have always thought, but it turns out she was simply ensuring that none of the family’s hard-earned cash would be spent on any school uniform for Harry.

Once you see it, you can't unsee it.

Warner Bros.

Petunia may have expected the Hogwarts letter to arrive in the post at some point soon, given her sister’s history, but she was still determined to send Harry to the local state school, Stonewall High, rather than the fee-paying Smeltings Academy where their darling Dudley was due to attend.

And rather than buying him the new uniform, she decides to dye some of Dudley’s old clothes grey, ready for Harry to start at a new school in the sort of clothes you’d find in the lost-and-found box at school when you forgot your PE kit.

Fans of the beloved Harry Potter series reacted to the news with a mixture of surprise and shock.

One commented: “The amount of times I have seen this movie is crazy, and I’ve read the book once, absolutely loved it, and yet I didn’t even notice this.

“That’s actually really cool!! Just wish they kept Peeves in the film!”

Aunt Petunia is mixing Harry's clothes in the background.

Warner Bros.

Another put: “Remember when the movies were this true to the books? Good times.”

And one wrote: “I always wondered what she was doing, I’d clearly forgotten that detail between [reading] the book and watching the film.”

Thankfully for Harry, Hagrid arrived not too long after to help him start his Hogwarts journey, and he managed to avoid ever wearing the horrible contents of Petunia’s pot.

Woman who shared theory about posting partners on social media has left internet divided

Some people agreed with the woman, while others were adamant her theory was incorrect

A woman has made a controversial claim about couples who post a lot about each other on social media – and not everybody agrees on her theory.

Singer Chelsea Berman took to TikTok, where she claimed that writing ‘paragraphs’ about partners online could actually be a red flag that the relationship isn’t all as it seems.

Chelsea explained: “I have a theory that if you are posting your partner excessively on social media with paragraphs and ‘you’re my soul mate’ and ‘you’re amazing’ excessively then you’re actually miserable in that relationship.”

She continued: “A few reasons — one, because I’ve been there. Two, who are you trying to prove it to? You can just tell them that.

“And there’s no problem with posting your partner on social media, that’s not what I’m saying, I do that too, but it’s the excessive, multiple posts every week, multiple paragraphs, it’s too much and I think it’s a cry for help.”

People had a lot of thoughts on Chelsea’s video, with some agreeing while others were adamant her theory was incorrect.

One person commented: “A private life is a happy life.”

While another said: “100% it’s always the ones that end up breaking up.”

And a third added: “Agree and also the ones who never post their partner at all too.”

“It’s like, please don’t tell facebook. Tell the actual person! What are you trying to prove?” Said a fourth.

Others were certain that Chelsea’s theory was all wrong, with another writing: “I post my partner weekly cause he is the kindest, smartest, most caring soul. Healthy love exists and I love to share our love.”

And another added: “I post my partner all the time coz for the first time in my life I feel valued and happy in a relationship. So NO this is not true.”

A third asked: “Where do you come up with these conclusions?”

Another said she hated that this was people’s opinion, explaining she’s simply a ‘romantic’.

“I hate how this is the thing people say now, I’m just a romantic and it makes me happy but I get it cause some people post like once a week lol,” she wrote.

Apparently, there could be some merit to Chelsea’s theory, with relationship expert Sarah Jayne telling news.co.au: “Overposting screams insecurity in the relationship, where you are trying to prove to people out there just how happy you are and how strong you are going, embellishing the positive experiences.

“Over posting affectionate pictures and captions might be a sign that a couple is grappling with issues like lack of trust or communication. Sometimes, constantly posting your relationship, or always wanting to be posted becomes a smokescreen that masks the real struggles within the relationship.”

Meanwhile, a study published in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin found that having high ‘relationship visibility’ could be a sign of relationship insecurity.

“On a daily basis, when people felt more insecure about their partner’s feelings, they tended to make their relationships visible,” the study explained.

“These studies highlight the role of relationships in how people portray themselves to others.”

Footage reveals horror moment three-year-old vanishes after being swallowed by manhole while playing

The horrifying moment shows the toddler disappearing underground

Footage has shown the horrifying moment that a toddler plummeted six-feet down a manhole in the West Midlands.

Dad Steven Pearce could be seen sitting in the garden, warning his daughter not to walk off further than the drain, when seconds later, the child disappears underground.

Steven jumps up from his seat and can be seen running ‘faster than Usain Bolt’ over to the grid where he begins shouting for his three-year-old daughter, Anastasia.

With utter panic in his voice, he pulls off the lid of the drain fearing that Anastasia was seriously injured.

Meanwhile, older daughter, Arizona, could be seen watching on in horror.

“The fall could have killed her,” said Steven.

“I told her not to go past the drain because of the canal on the other side but she stopped, turned around to look at me, smiled, and carried on.

“I saw her disappear so I ran to her. There was no thought involved because my natural instincts kicked in.

“I would beat Usain Bolt off the starting line the way I ran. I’ve never ran that fast in my whole life.

“I was in shock. My legs were trembling and they were like jelly. I was petrified.”

He continued: “I thought I would be able to lie on my belly and reach down to grab her but I couldn’t reach her.

“I climbed down on the metal foot rings but because it was so narrow I couldn’t get her up so I had to lift her up on my shoulder and climb out with her like a fireman rescue.

“Arizona was standing at the top of the hole crying while all of this was happening. She thought her little sister was dead.

“[Anastasia] is a tough kid so she he was fine afterwards and carried on playing but I think she was probably still in shock.

“Severn Trent should know better. I’ve been a builder for 24 years and that drain cover is not sufficient.

“It should be cast iron but it’s been a galvanised little wafer thin drain which barely covers the hole.

“That’s OK on a 2ft drop, but not a 6ft drop. That’s a really, really, bad mistake from them.”

Anastasia managed to escape the fall with a swollen knee and a lump on her head, but Steven says water company Severn Trent need to make the covers more secure.

Meanwhile, Anastasia’s mum Dani-Leigh Pearce, 32, was ‘horrified’ when she saw the footage and says the dramatic accident ‘could have broken her daughter’s neck’.

“I was absolutely horrified when I watched the footage back. I felt sick,” she said.

“Luckily I think her age helped her because she was so small she just went right down the centre.

“If it had been her sister, she would have had more chance of hitting her head.

“She was so lucky. It could have been really nasty and from that height she could have broken her neck.

“Thankfully Steven was looking after them and he acted really quickly so I’m just grateful that he was on the ball that day.”

The family reported the incident to Severn Trent who fitted a new, permanent cover on Friday, 28 February.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We’re very sorry to hear what has happened and we’re looking into the circumstances as a priority.

“As the family has started an insurance claim, we’re not able to comment further at this time.”

The woman could be seen taking a bum selfie during the viral moment

ESPN viewers were left rather amused on Saturday (9 March) when a woman appeared to take a selfie of her bum during a live-streamed baseball game.

Two women have gone viral on social media after they were spotted by fans taking photos of themselves at a college baseball game between East Carolina University and Coastal Carolina University.

The match was broadcast on ESPN Plus, with the women – who appeared to be Coastal Carolina fans – seemingly unaware the telly cameras were focused on them for a couple of minutes as they were snapping away.

In the clip, the women were standing in the crowd, seemingly getting ready to take some photos.

While one could be seen adjusting her cap before holding her phone up towards her face, the other suddenly moved her phone behind her waist and seemed to take a photo of her bum, before showing her friend next to her.

It seemed the commentary team weren’t quite sure what to say as the moment played out on live TV, with one explaining: “Selfie time for some fans.”

As her glasses could be seen slipping down her face, he added: “Obviously her glasses are not reading glasses.”

The commentators were praised for not commenting on what was actually happening during the viral moment.

One wrote online: “Not the announcer making this sm funnier.”

Meanwhile, sports journalist Matt Reigle wrote: “My favorite part of that clip is the absolute pros behind the mics looking for anything — anything — to talk about that wasn’t that woman apparently snapping a quick pic of her cheeks.”

In the end, the cameras panned away from the women and back to the baseball match, but it didn’t stop people talking about it online.

Many people thought the incident was hilarious, with several taking to the comments.

Posting a clip of the moment on X, Coastal Carolina alumni Brian Quigley called it the ‘greatest moment in ESPN Plus history’, adding: “NO WAY SHE JUST GOT CAUGHT TAKING AN A** PIC ON TV.”

Meanwhile, others found it equally amusing, with another adding: “Clearly they are huge supporters!”

And a third said: “I think I may know this person, but I don’t want to ask just in case I am wrong.”

Others praised the camera crew for providing the viral moment, with one saying they ‘knew what they were doing’ in capturing the selfie.

Manifest reached the #1 spot after being saved by the streamer.

Netflix is truly the knight in shining armour of the streaming service landscape.

After getting the chop from NBC in 2021, supernatural mystery thriller Manifest was left in limbo after three seasons, but just like it did for Lucifer in 2018, Netflix played the role of resurrector.

The show’s narrative followed a group of strangers that boarded a plane to New York from Jamaica. When it touched down on American soil though, five years had bizarrely passed by, meaning all of the passengers were presumed dead.

Contending with the mystery of their journey as they attempt restart their lives, they go on to experience odd visions and phenomenons.

Manifest season 3 concluded with an agonising cliffhanger for fans, but NBC was merciless in its decision-making.

Just a few days later, Netflix rode in on that heroic horse of theirs, adding all previous seasons of Manifest to its library and producing a two-part fourth season that completed the story.

Addressing the streamer’s saving of the show, Michaela Stone actress Melissa Roxburgh admitted she ‘couldn’t believe it’ when she first spotted Manifest beside the likes of OzarkBetter Call Saul, and The OA.

“I texted [showrunner] Jeff Rake and told him to turn on his TV,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.

“We were both like, where did this come from? We just couldn’t believe it.”

Never in their wildest dreams did they think Manifest would then be transformed into one of the world’s most-watched programmes.

Roxburgh, whose CV also boasts Star Trek Beyond and The Tomorrow People, went on to recall shooting the third season during the pandemic.

“It was honestly horrible because it was still during peak Covid, so we couldn’t do a wrap party or anything,” she shared with the publication.

“So we just sort wrapped the season and that was it. If we had ended the show there, we all would have been a little bit depressed — I’m happy that Netflix brought us back, not only to finish the story but to give everyone a proper goodbye.”

Better still, it was later confirmed that Manifest had reached Netflix’s top spot globally, with an X announcement reading: “It’s official: Manifest is the #1 series on Netflix worldwide with over 57 million hours streamed.”

One excited fan replied in the comments: “SO WELL DESERVED!!”

“Manifest is the best show rn i love that show fr!” was another reaction.

Reece Thompson’s acting gig as a five-year-old has paid off very handsomely

Titanic first hit the cinemas almost three decades ago, but those who starred in it are still getting paid for their acting efforts.

The likes of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet continue to receive cheques for their memorable roles – as do some of the other lesser known characters in James Cameron’s 1997 flick.

It’s impossible to remember all of the actors who played minor parts in the hit movie, especially since so many extras were used throughout filming.

Cameron created a ‘core group’ of background talent though, consisting of 150 people, who were all given names and detailed backstories based on real passengers.

The filmmaker did this in a bid to inform viewers of some of the real-life experiences of those who lost their lives on the Titanic’s ill-fated maiden voyage across the Atlantic in 1912.

One of these minor characters who boasted a backstory was Reece Thompson.

He was just five years old when he made his Hollywood debut in the blockbuster, but these days, he has left the bright lights of the showbiz world behind in favour of a career as a digital marketing director.

However, Utah-based Thompson, 33, continues to reap the rewards from his childhood acting gig all these years later, as he still receives royalty cheques for his minor role in the Oscar-winning film.

For those who don’t recognise the baby-faced star, he played the little Irish lad who is a third-class passenger on the Titanic alongside his mother and sister.

Fun fact, by the way – at the tender age of five, Thompson ‘didn’t know what an Irish accent was at all’, but managed to do a half-decent job at it for his one line in the movie.

Although Thompson’s moment on the big screen in Titanic was fleeting, it was still extremely impactful.

He’s seen being tucked into bed alongside his sibling, as his mother realises their doomed fates – as unfortunately, third-class passengers weren’t a priority during the evacuation.

In the film, Thompson heartbreakingly utters: “What are we doing, mummy?”

His mother, played by Jenette Goldstein, then responds: “We’re just waiting, dear. When they finish putting first-class people in the boats, they’ll be starting with us, and we’ll want to be ready, right?”

It’s a moment which really tugs on the heartstrings of viewers, as the trio never did get the call up to hop onto a lifeboat and sadly perished in the tragedy.

In the film world, that is – as Thompson is still alive and kicking in real life and he is also still raking it in from his small role all these years on.

He told Business Insider back in 2018: “It’s weird because it’s not present in my mind anymore. It’s not like, ‘Oh, when am I going to get a new Titanic cheque?'”

“When it happens, it’s like, ‘Oh, cool, an extra $100’,” Thompson said. “There have been a couple of times where it’s been like: ‘Oh, wow, that’s a $250 check’.

“But hopefully, they keep playing it a lot because that means more money for me.”

But last year, Thompson revealed he hadn’t cashed any of these cheques in a while.

During an interview with Australia’s Studio 10, he explained: “Yeah, I still do [receive royalty cheques], it’s true. But I haven’t updated my address in several years, honestly since the last time I got interviewed for this.

“So, I haven’t seen them [the cheques] in a few years. I’m just assuming that they are still coming.”

The child actor said he and his wife ‘get a kick out of [seeing] comments’ discussing his role in the film – although his memories of being on set are a bit hazy.

“It’s interesting, I’d say my family and I mostly just think that it’s interesting that people are still finding it interesting,” Thompson added.

“[The comments] are mostly just interesting to read, but yeah, it feels like a dream it was so long ago.”

He hasn’t revealed the exact amount he’s raked in over the years, but we can all hazard a guess – and it’s not half bad.

Flight attendant who got fired for twerking on plane explains why she did it as airline issues statement

Alaska Airlines flight attendant Nelle Diala was fired by the company after posting a video of her twerking on an empty plane to TikTok

A flight attendant who was fired by Alaska Airlines for twerking in a viral TikTok video filmed on one of their planes has explained why she did it before posting the clip to social media.

It comes as the US airline itself has issued a statement on why she was fired from her role with the company.

Nelle Diala had gone to work as she would do on any other day. With the plane empty before passengers got ready to board, the American cabin crew member decided to film herself dancing down the middle aisle of the plane before posting the video to TikTok.

“I didn’t think that being so happy can turn into something like this,” Diala told US broadcaster Inside Edition.

“I decided to take advantage of the moment to wake myself up and get myself hyped up for my day.”

Posting the video to the Chinese social media app, she captioned it with the words ‘what’s wrong with a little twerk before work’.

With the video ending up going viral on TikTok, Diala saw the brief moment of internet fame result in very real world consequences after, she says, Alaska Airlines fired her.

Diala, who had been working for Alaska Airlines for six months, explained that she had been told she had broken the company’s social media policy.

Saying she posted the video to celebrate the end of her probationary period with the firm, Diala said: “I was really proud of myself that I came so far.

“I didn’t think that my video and my post, in the way I was dancing, would be deemed as inappropriate.”

Diala said she put on a ‘proud face’ in the meeting in which she was let go by the airline, adding: “For them to terminate me without giving me a chance, it was unfair.”

In a statement after the incident, Alaska Airlines said: “While we don’t comment on personnel matters, we hold all flight attendants to high standards for conduct and guest care.

“All new flight attendants are subject to probationary periods, just like all Alaska Airlines employees.”

Nelle set up a GoFundMe for financial support (GoFundMe)

Diala has since set up a GoFundMe page for financial support, entitled ‘support for a wrongfully fired flight attendant’.

With more than $3,000 donated, it is no longer accepting donations.

“Losing my job was devastating. I’ve always been careful about what I share online, and I never thought this video, which didn’t even mention the airline by name, would cost me my career. Now, I am trying to figure out how to move forward,” she wrote.

“I’ve started this GoFundMe to make ends meet due to this sudden loss of income and until I am able to find another flight attendant position elsewhere. I’ve learned from my mistakes and those don’t define me… we listen and we don’t judge.”

Elon Musk’s net worth has dropped $102,000,000,000 in 2 months as experts explain why

The richest man on the planet has taken a serious financial hit since the start of the year

Elon Musk’s net worth has crashed by a reported $120 billion over the last two months, causing a financial expert to weigh in on the plunge.

52-year-old Musk currently has his fingers in a slew of pies, ranging from space travel and electric cars to the US government, social media and beyond.

Due to the amalgamation of his many lucrative business ventures, the recently-appointed Senior Advisor to the President of the United States is considered the wealthiest person in the world, with a net worth of $330 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

That puts him miles ahead of Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg ($221B), Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ($220B) and the likes of LVHM founder Bernard Arnault ($184B) and Oracle Corporation founder Larry Ellison ($176B).

However, Musk’s net worth has actually taken a mighty tumble, having shrunk by around 24 percent in the last ten weeks, according to Business Insider.

It’s understood that his bank balance has been mostly diminished due to Tesla’s share price dropping around 35 percent this year from about $404 to $263, reports Entrepreneur.

The dramatic fall from grace could also be attributed to Tesla’s company market value dropping by more than $400 billion.

A third theory contributing to his reduced net worth is the fact US sales of Tesla vehicles have also dropped by a whopping 16 percent from December 2024 to January 2025, says Cox Automotive.

It’s claimed that investors have discarded Tesla stock for a variety of reasons, including concerns regarding Musk’s closeness with US President Donald Trump.

In July 2024, Musk declared his support for the 78-year-old, subsequently spending more than $250 million campaigning for his re-election in Washington DC.

Much of the cash was spent on direct mail, canvassing, and phone calls, according to ABC News, with the businessman also using X – which he acquired in October 2022 for $44 billion – to sway supporters to vote Republican.

Following Trump’s inauguration on January 20, Musk was named as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

With DOGE, he has been tasked to cut federal spending by $1 trillion and get a handle on US federal government debt ($36.56 trillion).

Experts believe that the tech titan’s proximity to the White House has negatively impacted his work with Tesla.

This has caused some experts to raise concerns about how Musk’s government responsibilities might affect his performance as CEO moving forward.

“While the DOGE/Trump Musk iron-clad partnership has created major brand worries for Tesla … we estimate less than five percent of Tesla sales globally are at risk from these issues,” Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said, as per Barrons.

“We expect Musk will better balance his time between DOGE and Tesla/SpaceX over the course of 2025.”

Musk became Tesla’s CEO in October 2008, succeeding Ze’ev Drori, who became vice-chairman before exiting the company two months later.

Under the mogul, the company has launched a handful of well-selling electric vehicles, including the Cybertruck, which first began production in November 2023.

In the US, a top-spec Cybertruck will set you back by anything from $74,000 to $94,000, according to Car Wow.

You could be increasing your risk of a variety of health problems

‘If water is bad for you then surely everything else is too?’ is what most of us are thinking.

But that isn’t totally the case.

Water in its purest form is perfectly healthy to drink.

But when you consume a one-litre plastic bottle of water, for example, it happens to contain 240,000 plastic particles.

And it might come as an even bigger shock that there’s only 5.5 plastic particles per one litre of tap water, on average.

Why drinking water from a plastic bottle can be bad for you

Nanoplastics have strong links to cancer, birth defects and fertility problems.

These particles are much smaller than microplastics, which have been previously detected in water bottles, according to research published by the University of Columbia.

With the use of lasers, experts took a close look at particles from three popular brands of water in the US.

The danger with these nanoplastics is that they are so small that they can enter directly into blood cells and the brain.

Plastics used to make water bottles usually contain phthalates, which reportedly contributes to 100,000 premature deaths in the US each year.

And according to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, phthalates are ‘linked with developmental, reproductive, brain, immune, and other problems’.

The team’s use of the new laser technology was named Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) microscopy.

Study co-author Beizhan Yan, an environmental chemist at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory said: “Ironically, this probably comes from plastic filters used to supposedly purify the water before it is bottled.

“Previously this was just a dark area, uncharted. Toxicity studies were just guessing what’s in there.

“This opens a window where we can look into a world that was not exposed to us before.”

“People developed methods to see nano particles, but they didn’t know what they were looking at,” added the study’s lead author, Naixin Qian, a Columbia graduate student in chemistry.

How to safely drink water

According to Simplex Health, ‘the only guaranteed way to get pure water is through steam distillation by using a water distiller’.

“Distilled water is 99.8 percent pure, which means it is purer that any bottled or tap water and purer than using any other type of filtration or purification method. Water is gently boiled to kill off viruses and bacteria,” they explain.

“The steam produced is captured in a stainless steel coil where it cools to form pure water.

“This passes through an activated charcoal filter to remove any trace impurities. It is recommended, to add minerals back to the water, as during the distillation process the water is purified to a point that it could be lacking these essential minerals.

“This intensive process can have an effect on the taste of water, which may not be to everyone’s liking.”

Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruises introduce new age ban and it spells bad news for young travellers

The world’s largest cruise lines have updated their rules when it comes to travelling with Carnival or Royal Caribbean

There are big changes in the world of cruise ships. In particular, it focuses on who can travel on the world’s largest cruise lines, namely Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise ships.

Hands down the top two players in the multi-billion dollar industry, a ban of sorts has been introduced across the two cruise lines that regularly set sail from the Port of Miami in Florida.

The cruise ship capital of the world, it entertains ships from both companies on an almost weekly basis. And if they aren’t in port, they’re already out sailing around the likes of the Caribbean, Europe, or even the wider world if you’re on the nine-month cruise of a lifetime.

For those ever thinking about a cruise, better make sure you check the rules now that they’ve been significantly changed for people heading out on to the open seas with either Royal Caribbean or Carnival.

What is the new age ban and rule change?

Both Carnival and Royal Caribbean are cracking down on young people cruising with them.

It’s bad news if you’re under the age of 21 and leaving port in the USA.

But don’t kick off too much. You’re still okay if you’re travelling with someone else under the age of 21. But things get tricky if one of you isn’t of age.

What if one traveller is under the age of 21? And exceptions?

If someone under the age of 21 wants to travel with Carnival or Royal Caribbean, they must be accompanied by someone who is older than 25.

They have to be a relative or ‘guardian’ but they do not have to be the legal guardian of that person.

You’re in luck if you’re married and both under the age of 21, with those people exempt from needing a companion aged 26 or older. You’ll just have to present your marriage certificate as evidence.

What have the cruise lines said?

Carnival says: “Guests are required to be 21 years of age [on embarkation day] to travel on their own. Guest ages will be verified at embarkation. Guests not conforming to this policy will result in denied boarding, and no compensation will be provided at embarkation.

“Guests 20 years of age and younger must travel with a relative or guardian 25 years of age or older.”

Royal Caribbean’s website says: “Royal Caribbean’s minimum age to sail unaccompanied on sailings originating in North America is twenty-one.”

For Royal Caribbean cruises departing from anywhere but the UK, the age is 18, so it is very much just an American rule.

If you’ve already booked and fall foul of the new rules, we would suggest contacting your travel agent or the cruise line directly for advice.
