Lewis Hamilton has provided an epic response to claims that ‘everyone has a shelf life’ during testing for his new Formula One team Ferrari.

The British driver topped the timesheet for Ferrari in Bahrain on Thursday, marking an encouraging display on the second day of pre-season testing.

Hamilton, 40, a seven-time F1 world champion, ended his 12-year stint with former team Mercedes last year to join Ferrari for the 2025 season.

During his final season at Mercedes, team principal Toto Wolff seemed to suggest Hamilton was past his best after saying ‘everyone has a shelf life’.

Wolff later said the quote was taken out of context – and Hamilton brushed it off in November – but the Briton has appeared to respond again over five months later.

In a fresh interview with Time magazine on Thursday, Hamilton said: ‘Don’t ever compare me to anybody else.

‘I’m the first and only Black driver that’s ever been in this sport. I’m built different. I’ve been through a lot. I’ve had my own journey.

‘You can’t compare me to another 40-year-old, past or present, Formula 1 driver in history. Because they are nothing like me.

‘I’m hungry, driven, don’t have a wife and kids. I’m focused on one thing, and that’s winning. That’s my No. 1 priority.’

Meanwhile, speaking on the second day of pre-season testing, Hamilton said his first month at Ferrari ‘couldn’t have gone better’ ahead of the first race of 2025, which takes place in Australia from March 14 to March 16.

‘How you start is often very important,’ Hamilton added. ‘This past month couldn’t have gone any different and couldn’t have gone any better. Things along the way had to happen, [the crash in] Barcelona had to happen.

‘Every day has been significant and about building foundation. Whilst I mentioned we had to cram a lot in a small space of time, we haven’t rushed it.

‘Long days, but that’s what we’re here for. I think it will pay dividends going forwards. This will continuously be evolving and it’s felt seamless, felt easy in a sense of gelling with the team. I’ve not had to force it and I feel at home.’

Quizzed if Ferrari’s 2025 car concept felt better than the one he drove at Mercedes in 2024, Hamilton added: ‘I think it’s a bit early to say but I am really enjoying the car. We are slowly bonding I think!

‘Yesterday was a so-so day, it was just okay. But we got through all our run plans, we are testing a bunch of things.

‘I’m not doing set-up changes or directing where we want the car to go, whereas today was exploring a bit my interaction with my engineer. So far, I really enjoy driving this car.’

Chris Hughes, famous Eggheads quizzer and TV personality, has died at the age of 77.

The news was confirmed in a statement by the Eggheads social media page, which read: “It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Eggheads great Chris Hughes.

“Chris joined the show in 2003 and over the next 20 years gave us not only brilliant answers but very many laughs and happy memories.

“He will be hugely missed by all his Eggheads family.”

Hughes had been a part of Eggheads since its inception in 2003 and had remained on the show ever since, taking a break in 2021.

Prior to embarking on a career as a professional quizzer and appearing on the line-up of Eggheads, Hughes had worked as a train driver and a railway worker. His big break in the world of quizzing would come in the 1980s after he won BBC general knowledge shows Mastermind and International Mastermind in 1983.

He also won BBC Four’s Brain of Britain general knowledge quiz in 2005, becoming one of only seven people to win both Mastermind and Brain of Britain.

He was also one of the most successful contestants on game show The Weakest Link after making it to the final without answering a single question incorrectly. His abilities would impress host Anne Robinson so much that she decided against using her iconic ‘you are the weakest link, goodbye’ catchphrase when he was voted off by other contestants. She would later go on to refer to Hughes as ‘best contestant’ she’d ever had on the show.

Last words from pilot before world's deadliest aviation accident

The Pan Am pilot’s final words before the horrific collision were heard on radio recordings

On 27 March 1977, two planes collided at Los Rodeos airport in Tenerife in what would become the deadliest aviation accident in history.

There have been a few air crashes so far this year, doing absolutely no favours for travellers with a fear of flying…

The American Airlines flight that collided with an army helicopter in Washington DC made headlines last month, while a Delta Air Lines aircraft flipped upside down and caught fire upon landing in Canada last week.

But the reality of it is that aviation accidents happen, and they’ve been occurring for as long as air travel has existed.

The deadliest air accident in history though, happened in Tenerife in 1977.

It would culminate in two planes colliding with each other in the middle of a runway, killing 583 people.

Pan Am Flight 1736 was scheduled to take off from Las Palmas Gran Canaria Airport when a bomb was set off at the site, forcing the aircraft to reroute to the much smaller Los Rodeos Airport in Tenerife in the fear that a second may go off at any point.

Also having to be diverted to Tenerife was KLM 4805, which was in the same situation after making its way from Amsterdam.

They were among a number of other planes in the small airport that usually dealt with light aircrafts, featuring just one runway and minimal parking for Boeing 747s.

KLM’s captain, Jacob Veldhuyzen van Zanten, was a senior pilot that was becoming increasingly frustrated with the delays with the flight, as he needed to return to Amsterdam after Las Palmas.

They were getting close to exceeding flying time limits, and he could be heard saying: “I’ve seen postage stamps bigger than this place. Now we’re going to get some boxed in here, goddammit,” when seeing the airport.

As all the runways were blocked with aircraft, the main one was used as a taxiway, with planes taxiing to the far end to use the runway to take off.

The weather also started to worsen, with fog setting in, but there was good news – Las Palmas airport had reopened and planes were being directed one by one.

The KLM captain took the decision to refuel, holding up the Pan Am airplane behind it.

As soon as it was done, the plane moved as quickly as possible, as Captain van Zante was set on leaving ASAP, despite the poor visibility.

After mistakenly believing they had been given clearance to take off, van Zanten sent the KLM hurtling down the runway and straight into the Pan Am plane, which hadn’t finished taxiing off the runway.

Pan Am pilot Victor Grubbs, could be heard saying before impact: “There he is… look at him. Goddamn that son-of-a-b***h is coming!”

Turning sharply to try and steer clear of the oncoming plane, first officer Robert Bragg exclaimed: “Get off! Get off! Get off.”

The KLM flight barrelled into the Pan Am craft, taking most of the roof off it, with the KLM plane flying into the air and slamming into the ground in a huge ball of fire.

In total, 583 people perished, with just 61 people surviving from the Pan Am flight.

The investigation into the incident looked into the conversation logs between the planes and the control tower.

It was found that the main cause of the accident was the KLM captain taking off without clearance, something he was warned about by crew.

It was then argued that the decision to take on extra fuel delayed takeoff and allowed the fog to set in more, and that the weight of it slowed the plane down during takeoff.

The fuel also caused the fire to be much bigger than it would have been.

As a result, international airline regulations were changed forever, with flight crew and air traffic controllers required to use standardised English phrases and to make decisions by mutual agreement.

Crew resource management was also improved, allowing pilots to challenge the captain with less hassle.

Gabby Petito’s dad responds to her lookalike’s emotional viral post that left viewers ‘in tears’

Gabby Petito is currently the subject of a Netflix documentary

Gabby Petito’s father has left people in tears after responding to a post from a woman who closely resembles his late daughter.

The heartbreaking case of Gabby Petito is back in the news again following the release of Netflix’s three-part series American Murder: Gabby Petito which follows the final days of the aspiring vlogger.

Petito had been travelling on a road-trip alongside her fiancé Brian Laundrie through the US when she disappeared in September 2021.

Her body would later be recovered near local camping spot in Wyoming, with her death confirmed to be strangulation and blunt force trauma.

Laundrie would vanish on 13 September after becoming a suspect in her disappearance. His remains would be found a month later alongside a confession note stating that he’d killed Petito.

His cause of death was determined to be suicide.

Following the release of the series, US woman Raegan Humphrey took to TikTok and shared side-by-side images of herself and Petito as part of a trend where people share their famous lookalikes online.

“It’s an honour for your beautiful soul to be seen in me,” she added in the caption.

The post went viral due to Raegan’s close resemblance to the 22-year-old, with users all noting how similar the two women looked.

“I got so confused bc i thought both pics were gabby, you two are so stunning,” one user commented.

“Everyone really does have a doppelgänger,” a second added.

The post would even catch the attention of her parents Joe Petito and Nichole Schmidt. Joe’s response to the post didn’t go unnoticed either, with the 45-year-old writing: “Make the most of every day,” alongside a string of heart emojis.

“This is so true, I’m more than sorry for your loss and could never imagine what your going through, but I’m sure you’re making gabby proud,” Raegan replied.

Understandably, the tender reaction from Joe was an emotional one for many, with several commenters saying the interaction had left them ‘in tears’.

“Wow Joe Petito had me in tears. God Bless. He gave you great advice,” wrote one commenter, as a second noted that she was ‘beautiful’, adding: “Her dad commenting on this instantly set me into tears but dang girl you are beautiful just like her.”

“Joe commented and Nikki reposted, I’m crying,” a third user noted.

Might be the weirdest thing Trump has posted in a while

Donald Trump is used to posting… well, whatever he wants on social media, but his latest post about Gaza is more than a touch odd.

Earlier this month, Donald Trump stunned the world when he revealed that he plans to ‘own’ the Gaza strip.

While this seemed to come a bit out of left field considering the ongoing conflict in the region, he added that his ownership would bring ‘stability’ to the area as well as other parts in the Middle East.

While joined by Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on February 4, Trump said: “The only reason the Palestinians want to go back to Gaza is they have no alternative, it’s right now a demolition site. This is just a demolition site. Virtually every building is down.”

Yeah… not entirely confident Trump understands the complexities of the politics, or the history in the region.

However, the president continued to make assertions about how much better the US would make this part of the Middle East.

He continued: “The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it, too.

“We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site.

“If it’s necessary, we’ll do that, we’re going to take over that piece, we’re going to develop it, create thousands and thousands of jobs, and it’ll be something that the entire Middle East can be very proud of.”

Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, on February 26, Trump gave his followers a look into what this vision could look like… using the power of artificial intelligence, oh goodie.

The visuals are about as weird as you might expect. It shows golden statues of Trump and a golden Trump balloon, and just a whole lot of gold, as well as bearded belly dancers and a Elon Musk lookalike walking as dollar bills fall from the sky.

The AI video comes with an embarrassingly awful pro-Trump song to match the bizarre visuals.

And in case you can’t bring yourself to unmute the video, here are the lyrics.

“Donald Trump is coming to set you free, bringing the light for all to see.

“No more tunnels, no more fear, Trump Gaza is finally here.

“Trump Gaza shining bright, golden future, a brand new light.

“Feast and dance the deal is done, Trump Gaza number one.

“Trump Gaza shining bright…” you get the point.

Gen Z woman who was shocked by text millennial man sent to her after first date sparks online debate

Not even a simple text message is safe from the Gen Z-Millennial divide

You may not realise but everything from the way you dress to the social media apps you frequent are subtle giveaways for the year you were born.

As the two most chronically online generations, the distinctions are most visible between Gen Z and Millennials — with everything from the jeans we wear to the emojis we use being assigned as one of the two generational groups.

And it would seem like there’s a new giveaway to deduce whether a person’s year of birth starts with a one or two… the way in which you text.

Millennials are born between 1981 and 1996 while Gen Z is 1997 and 2012 (Getty Stock Images)

Taking to TikTok, 27-year-old US woman Libby (@Libbyinboston) shared an image of a text she’d received from a man she’d recently been on a date with and asked for opinions on the quality of his response.

The text wasn’t anything particularly explosive or shocking, with the mystery man simply writing: “Hey, had fun last night. Have a good day.”

However Libby wasn’t too impressed with the message and shared a screenshot alongside asking followers if her date was a bad texter or just simply a man in his mid-30s.

Libby was deliberately vague when it came to what exactly had left her so unimpressed with the message, prompting plenty of debate in the comments.

“My bf is 38 n txts me as if it’s an email like spacing between texts I’m like can you not haha,” one commenter revealed, suggesting that formal text messages, full-stops and all, become more appealing as you age.

“LIKE WHY ARE THEY LIKE THIS,” a second person questioned, as a third added: “If he texts like he’s messaging his boss on teams you’re the one.”

However not everyone saw a problem with the business-casual approach to messaging, with some viewers suggesting Libby base her judgement after exchanging multiple texts to ‘see to how the conversation goes’.

“Listen, millennials have been thru it. We state facts because exclamation points scare us,” a second added.

Libby isn’t the only person to notice the difference between how Gen Z and Millennials text, with formal and complete sentences being favoured by the latter while the former prefer to express their feelings though a combination of slang, emojis and exclamation marks.

And it seems the constant ribbing is starting to make the older generation feel self conscious about their polite texting manner and adherence to grammar rules, as numerous commenters were seeking advice on how to loosen up over message.

“For us 35+ can you advise how to colour it up??? Emojis and exclamations,” one person asked, while a second user added that they were ‘painfully aware of it’.

Eugenea Collins claims she is the missing British girl

An American woman is making some wild claims that she’s Madeleine McCann, who went missing almost two decades ago, with DNA ‘proof’.

The disappearance of the British three-year-old girl sparked international attention when she vanished from her bed while on vacation in Portugal with her parents in 2007.

While what happened to Madeleine remains a mystery 18 years on, Eugenea Collins says she has the answers – claiming that she is actually the missing girl all these years later.

The Arkansas woman has been incessantly posting on social media that she is the real Maddy, even going to far to say she has ‘DNA proof’.

The blonde-haired and blue-eyed 22-year-old was born on October 23, 2002, which puts her around the same age as Madeline, though the Leicestershire girl’s birthday is recorded five months later on May 12, 2003.

Still, Collins is adamant she is Madeline, and told the Daily Mail that she first grew suspicious of her own identity after seeing Polish woman Julia Wandelt on Dr. Phil’s talk show.

Wandelt had made claims she was Kate and Gerry McCann’s missing daughter until a DNA test proved her claims were bogus.

The woman has since been charged with stalking the family in the UK, which allegedly includes sending a flurry of messages, a letter and turning up at their home, reports the BBC.

Collins said: “If it wasn’t for me seeing her on the Dr. Phil show I would’ve never known. In a way her stupidity actually helped me find my family.”

“I saw the age progressions and it was like I was looking in a mirror. I just know I saw pictures of myself online and it says I’m missing,” she added.

Documenting her apparent likeness to the missing girl on TikTok, Collins also revealed her ancestry DNA results that pinpoint her as 68 percent English and Northwestern European, which she claims is ‘proof’.

Collins also claims she can’t get any formal ID and has ‘never seen an original birth certificate,’ adding: “The only thing I saw had someone else’s name wrote on it and they marked that out and wrote mine above it.”

Her social media documents a complicated family tree, with Collins claiming she doesn’t have a relationship with her biological dad who, according to her, looks like a German convicted pedophile identified as Christian B.

He was a main suspect in the case of Madeleine’s disappearance, but was later acquitted due to a lack of evidence.

Collins said she met her father roughly three times, adding: “I was always told he was a little off in the head. We were never allowed to go around him. I never knew why.

“When I first saw the photos of Christina B I instantly recognized that man. Christian B is the man I was told my whole life was my biological father.”

Many are sceptical about her belief and have pointed out some key differences in comparison pics – including the mark in Madeleine’s eye and their differently shaped ears.

Collins has an answer for this though, saying she discovered ‘scars’ at the back of her ears.

Among her comments on social media, Collins penned: “I felt like something was missing from my life and I just couldn’t quite put my finger on it. The emptiness was just one of the worst things. The feeling of not belonging wasn’t just in my head it was because I actually didn’t belong here.”

She said after ‘figuring it out’, it feels ‘like this weight has been lifted off my chest.’

“This isn’t just another false alarm. I really am Madeleine McCann,” she reiterates.

Gene Hackman reportedly shared his home with German Shepherds as details have emerged following the actor’s death.

The French Connection star, 95, was found dead alongside his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, and their pet dog at their home in New Mexico on Wednesday (26 February).

“We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail,” Santa Fe County said in a statement.

“This is an active investigation – however, at this time we do not believe that foul play was a factor.”

ackman and Arakawa had reportedly shared their home with two German Shepherds.

Back when the actor was filming The Replacements, two stray dogs wandered onto the set in Baltimore.

He was said to have named the two dogs Gene and Keanu, after his costar Keanu Reeves.

After bringing both to the shelter, Hackman and his wife went on to adopt the one with his shared name.

According to the Daily Mail, shelter Animal Rescue shared a birthday message to the film star last year.

“Happy 94th birthday to our most famous adopter Gene Hackman!! While filming The Replacements in Baltimore in 1999, two stray dogs wandered onto the movie set,” they said.

“Both dogs were transported to us via limousine and the Hackmans came up the following week and adopted one of them. #adoptdontshop.”

For the first time in 21 years, the pair were pictured together in public after leaving Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2024.

The two-time Oscar winner held on to his wife’s arm and was using a cane.

Hackman first met Arakawa, from Hawaii, at a fitness centre in LA, where she worked part-time. They started dating in 1984.

He married his first wife Faye Maltese in 1956, going on to divorce her in 1986.

They shared children Leslie Anne, Elizabeth Jean and Christopher Allen.

Hackman has appeared in 79 feature films from 1961 to 2004.

He is considered by many to be one of the greatest actors of all time, having picked up two Academy Awards, two BAFTAs, four Golden Globes and a Screen Actors Guild award.

His two Oscar wins came in the form of Best Actor for The French Connection (1971) and then Best Supporting Actor for Unforgiven (1992).

Hackman would retire from acting in 2004 due to health complications.

“The straw that broke the camel’s back was actually a stress test that I took in New York,” the actor told Empire in 2009.

“The doctor advised me that my heart wasn’t in the kind of shape that I should be putting it under any stress.”

Donald Trump’s press secretary reveals email she sent in response to Elon Musk’s demands with 5 bullet points

It follows Elon Musk doubling down on his email to all federal employees demanding a response or else they be considered ‘terminated’

A screenshot of White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt’s response to Elon Musk’s email to all federal workers has been shared online.

On Saturday (February 22), Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) ‘consistent wither President Donald Trump’s instructions’ fired off an email to all federal employees demanding they outline five tasks they’ve completed in the last week, warning if they didn’t their lack of response would be taken as a resignation.

Titled ‘HR,’ the subject line read: “What did you do last week?”

The email continued “Please reply to this email with approx. 5 bullets of what you accomplished last week and cc your manager.”

Staff were asked not to include links, attachments or classified information and Musk added in a post to Twitter: “Consistent with President @realDonaldTrump’s instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week. Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.”

The email sparked backlash, particularly given its deadline of 11:59pm on Monday (February 24), and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has since spoken out about the email, a screenshot of her own response to it having been shared online.

On Tuesday, Leavitt confirmed she’d replied to the email and fired it off to political consultant and the current White House Deputy Chief of Staff, Taylor Budowich.

The email reads: “Hello Taylor. In an effort of transparency and accountability, I am pleased to inform you of five tasks that I completed last week, though the list of everything that I completed is much longer. See below.”

Her five bullet points? Well…

  • “Held a press briefing to mark one month of the Trump Administration with special guests Mike Walz, Stephen Miller, and Kevin Hassett.
  • “Gave speech at CPAC.
  • “Staffed POTUS for CPAC speech on Saturday
  • “Joined Fox News.
  • “Participated in media row in the EEEOB.”

Leavitt added: “P.S. I am so grateful to have a job and work hard on behalf of the American taxpayers, who fund my salary. This email took me two minutes to draft. Thank you.”

The White House press secretary then doubled down on her comments during a press conference.

She said: “I can announce that we’ve had more than one million workers who have chosen to participate in this very simple task of, again, sending five bullet points to your direct supervisor or manager.”

Leavitt argued, as quoted by ABC News: “All federal workers should we working at the same pace that President Trump is working and moving.

“We have a country to save, and we want this federal government to be responsive to the needs of the American people who re-elected this president to have historic, massive reform. And that’s what the intention of this idea is.”

Musk later took to Twitter on February 24 to say federal workers would be given ‘another chance’ to reply but ‘failure to response a second time [would] result in termination’.
