Heavy rain and storm winds will sweep across the British Isles this weekend, bringing travel chaos and flooding.

The Met Office issued yellow weather warnings for torrential downpours and strong winds making a landing on Sunday.

Most of England and all of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will be battered by rough weather, although London and the South East of Englandwill be spared the worst of the wet weather front. Despite the gloomy forecast, warm temperatures are set to hover near 10C across the UK.

Heavy rain is expected to cause flooding and wreak havoc on train and bus travel.

Two red flood warnings are also active in Wiltshire due high water levels in Salisbury Plain area.

The forecaster issued five fresh alerts covering most of the UK and Northern Ireland.

Gusts of 50-60mph are expected through Sunday morning and afternoon along with rain in parts of England, Wale and Scotland.

Spray and flooding could make conditions on roads difficult while homes could be cut off.

Flood water could cause ‘a danger to life’ in places where it is fast flowing, the Met Office warned.

Winds could blow at gusts of up to 70mph in exposed areas along the Irish Sea coastlines, Scottish Islands and other high ground areas further inland, Met Office warned.

The wind warning is in place from 6am until 6pm on Sunday in North West of England, North East, South West, West Midlands, East Midlands, Yorkshire & Humber, in Wales and in all of Scotland, including Orkney and Highland islands.

Northern Ireland’s wind warning is active from 3am until 3pm.

The rain warnings are more scattered around, but where it is forecast, up to 50mm could land in exposed hills while 20-30mm is common.

Heavy downpour is expected in Cornwall, Devon and Plymouth in the South West of England and in southern and southwestern parts of Wales between 9am and 9pm, and in Cumbria, South West Scotland and Lothian Borders and Strathclyde from 7am until 3pm.

Ron Garan returned to Earth with a newfound perspective

Space is literally in a world, or universe rather, of its own. You can only imagine what type of things astronauts witness, and how it would transform their perspective when they descend back to earth.

For former NASA space cadet Ron Garan, 63, there was only one thing on his mind when he was up in space, and it was the ‘sobering realisation’ that we Earthlings are ‘living a lie’. But don’t panic, it’s not that the earth is actually flat.

Garan experienced what is referred to as the ‘overview effect’ while he was up there. This is essentially where he had an uninterrupted view of our globe. This effect prompts a cognitive shift that many astronauts understandably feel when looking at Earth while floating in space – which researchers compare to a ‘state of awe with self-transcendent qualities’.

This awe-invoking experience can trigger ‘unexpected and overwhelming emotion’ for those who are brave enough to get onboard a rocket. And this is the exact experience that Ron had while spending 178 days in space, travelling more than 71 million miles in 2,842 orbits throughout his career at NASA.

During his time on the International Space Station (ISS), Ron drew some interesting conclusions about our way of life as we know it, while looking out of the window.

In a conversation with the Big Think, the New Yorker said that he realised that the things that most humans are worried about aren’t actually that big of a deal after all. But we should be a lot more concerned about global warming, deforestation, and biodiversity loss.

Sharing what he saw, Garan said: “When I looked out the window of the International Space Station, I saw the paparazzi-like flashes of lightning storms, I saw dancing curtains of auroras that seemed so close it was as if we could reach out and touch them.

“And I saw the unbelievable thinness of our planet’s atmosphere. In that moment, I was hit with the sobering realisation that that paper-thin layer keeps every living thing on our planet alive.

“I saw an iridescent biosphere teeming with life. I didn’t see the economy. But since our human-made systems treat everything, including the very life-support systems of our planet, as the wholly owned subsidiary of the global economy, it’s obvious from the vantage point of space that we’re living a lie.”

“We need to move from thinking economy, society, planet to planet, society, economy”, Garan continued. “That’s when we’re going to continue our evolutionary process. “There’s this light bulb that pops up where they realise how interconnected and interdependent we all are.”

“We’re not going to have peace on Earth until we recognise the basic fact of the interrelated structure of all reality,” Garan added.

Find out what TV show Tom Hardy is returning to for a second season

Actor Tom Hardy has posted a hint on Instagram that has got fans on the edge of their seats.

Hardy is well-known for his projects in the genre of crime. From Peaky Blinders to Inception, most of us are used to seeing Hardy on our TV or streaming screens.

Taboo is one of Hardy’s popular projects. The TV show was first aired in 2017 and explored the dark side of the 19th century.

In the series, Hardy plays main character James Keziah Delane, an adventurer who comes back to London during the 1812 war to rebuild his late father’s shipping empire. But his competitor and the government are after his inheritance at any cost.

Season one was eight episodes and it ended on February 28, 2017. A second season was planned to be released in 2019, as the writer of the show Steven Knight wrote six episodes. However, due to scheduling issues, as well as the unprecedented circumstances of the pandemic, the progress of season two was stalled.

So, you can imagine how excited Taboo fans must have been when they saw Hardy post an image of the signature theme photo of Taboo on his Instagram feed today. Although Hardy has his comments switched off for Instagram, then tens of thousands of likes indicate how eager his followers are to learn more about the topic.

Speaking about a second season, Hardy previously expressed enthusiasm at a second season.

In 2021, he told Esquire: “The second season of Taboo is really, really important to me, and it’s taken a lot of thinking, because I really enjoyed the first one and I want to be really fulfilled by the second one.”

The actor also said that there was ‘a series… already written’, but he wasn’t sure on whether they would keep the script.

On Reddit, users were going hard, excuse the pun, hoping that this impromptu Instagram post is a hint at there being a second season coming soon.

One user wrote: “I mean he’s done with Venom, could be, HOPEFULLY.”

Another typed: “Please!!! We need S2!”

One user expressed some uncertainty as to what it could mean: “just saw this and noticed that he limited comments on it. If this isn’t about season 2, he’s trolling magnificently.”

Back in 2023, Hardy’s production partner Dean Baker cleared things up in an interview with the Radio Times.

Baker said: “Currently we are working on a second season of Taboo.”

Hardy himself had also previously spoken about his ideas for the next season, and they were a bit out-there to say the least.

Back in 2021, he said: “In my head I was thinking, ‘Let’s say they get to America, they get to Canada, fast-forward to 1968, the Tet Offensive, the Vietnam War, look at the CIA, the Viet Cong, the French in Saigon.

“Take the Delaney family tree out in the jungle, and recreate the same family dynamics that were happening in London but with new people, thinking about how history and corruption repeats itself.

“It’s still Taboo, it’s still period, but it’s the Sixties.

“There’s something fun about that.”

Viewers were not impressed after watching two blokes hitting women in a ring

A Romanian MMA company is facing backlash after allowing two male MMA fighters to face off against three women in the ring.

While women’s combat sports have come a long way in the past couple of years, there’s still an important reason why sports such as boxing and MMA are divided by gender and weight class.

However, none of this matters to the people who stage events at Real Xtreme Fighting (RXF), especially when it comes to getting views.

According to RXF’s social media, the three women were Alicia Bonita, Denisa Costea, and Maria Adriana, while the men were Costica Prisecaru and Sebastian Rechinu.

The bout was put on by Romanian fighting company Real Xtreme Fighting (RXF)

On paper, three should theoretically beat two, but this doesn’t take into account that only two of the three women – Costea and Adriana – appear to have a combat background, whereas Prisecaru and Rechinu are both MMA fighters.

Meanwhile, Bonita describes herself as a dancer and OnlyFans model.

The women also twerked before to entertain fans before the unsurprisingly short-lived match got underway, and ended exactly the way you’re expecting.

Costea, Bonita, and Adriana struggled from the get go, as they struggled to land a single punch against the two men and were quickly knocked to the ground. The match ended in a win for the two men and multiple shocked viewers, who couldn’t believe what they’d just watched.

“2 men vs. 3 Instagram models. How is this legal,” wrote X account Happy Punch, who initially shared the clip on the platform.

“This is disgusting. How does something like this get sanctioned,” one person replied to the clip, while a second added: “Whoever allows this to happen shouldn’t be allowed to licence fights. It’s disgusting behaviour.”

“2 experienced male fighters vs 3 instagram girls.. who authorised this fight,” a third penned.

another user replied: “That’s it send a barrage of comets we had a nice run but I think there’s no coming back from this one.”

The two on three stunt isn’t the only bonkers fight RXF has recently hosted either, with the company previously sanctioning a two on one fight featuring two women and one man last year.

The fight was uncomfortable viewing for many (RXF)

More recently, the fight company chucked 10 amateur lightweight fighters against two professional heavyweights for our viewing pleasure.

Unexpectedly, the match quickly descended into absolute carnage as 10 men attempted to pile on two.

The pro fighting pair were eventually declared winners, proving that weight and fighting background are more important than biology or numbers.

What happened to nine-month-old from one of the 'most unethical psychological experiments ever'

Researchers spent years trying to work out the fate of the baby

I’m sure most of you will be familiar with Pavlov’s dog experiment, which famously tested out the concept of conditioning by training canines to expect food whenever they heard a bell.

Safe to say the experiment was a success, as it found the dogs would eventually begin to salivate upon hearing the sound of a bell.

But it turns out that this ‘conditioning’ type of experiment was also tried out on people too, including a nine-month-old baby.

Known as the ‘Little Albert experiment’, psychologist John B. Watson sought out to find evidence of classical conditioning in humans in 1919 by creating fear with a rat.

But what happened to the little boy, known as Little Albert’ or ‘Albert B’, in what has since been dubbed as arguably one of the ‘most unethical experiments‘ ever?

The experiment, conducted by Watson and grad student Rosalie Rayner, exposed the little boy to various stimuli, such as a rabbit, monkey, a white rat, and burning newspapers, to gauge his reaction.

Given Albert hadn’t seen any of these things before, he showed no fear when they were first presented to him.

But then Watson made a change. The next time he put a rat in front of the baby, Watson would make a loud noise by hitting a metal pipe with a hammer, which would make Albert cry.

Watson repeated this until eventually the rat’s appearance alone became enough to make Albert break into tears.

But since the experiment came to an end, researchers have desperately tried to find out what became of little Albert.

One of these researchers was Hall Beck at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina – and what Beck found was tragic.

Watson’s papers said that Albert B was the son of a wet nurse who worked at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where the experiment had been conducted.

After years of researching and eventually using facial analysis, Beck concluded in 2009 that little Albert must have been Douglas Merritte, the son of hospital employee Arvilla, who was born on the same day.

But this was a tragic conclusion because it turns out that this Douglas had died age six of hydrocephalus, or water on the brain. This condition even led Douglas to blindness at some points in his life.

But despite the revelation, some psychologists weren’t so convinced by Beck’s findings.

Russ Powell at MacEwan University in Alberta, Canada, and his colleagues reinvestigated, only to find that Beck had missed another potential candidate.

It turns out that a woman named Pearl Barger also had a baby at the same hospital, who was not only born on the same day as Albert B, but was also named William Albert Barger.

Powell’s team also claimed they found greater consistencies between their newfound candidate and Albert B, leading them to believe this was in fact who they had been looking for.

And the story of this Albert B was a far happier one, as he lived a long, happy life until his death in 2007, according to his niece.

She said he never knew anything about the experiment, but interestingly, noted that he did have an aversion to animals during his life.

MrBeast explains reason why he has ‘less than a million dollars’ in the bank

The YouTuber, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, has a net worth of $1 billion at just 26 years old

YouTuber MrBeast has explained why he has ‘less than a million dollars in the bank’, despite just recently being able to give the winner of his Beast Games show a staggering $10,000,000.

He might only be 26-years-old – *sobs* – but MrBeast, aka Jimmy Donaldson, has amassed a net worth of $1 billion, according to Celebrity Net Worth. That’s like having a salary of more than $38 million every year since birth.

MrBeast has achieved his wealth through his work on YouTube, where he’s successfully earned the title of the most-subscribed creator on the platform thanks to his videos in which he often gives his viewers the chance to win huge prizes – as long as they can get through whatever challenge he’s set first.

More recently he ventured out into the world of TV with his series Beast Games, which gave contestants the chance to win $5 million, and towards the end of the show he upped the stakes to offer a prize of $10 million.

His habit of giving out huge amounts of money indicates MrBeast has a lot of cash to play with, but in a recent interview with Steven Bartlett on the Diary of a CEO podcast the YouTuber explained that his wealth isn’t quite the huge pile of cash you might imagine.

During the interview Bartlett asked if MrBeast was a ‘billionaire’, to which he replied: “On paper, yeah.”

He then added: “But I mean in my actual bank account, I have less than a million dollars.”

MrBeast went on to explain the workings around his income, saying he pays himself ‘a little bit’ to ensure he has enough money to cover his regular monthly costs, as well as to pay his staff members.

When it comes to the bigger picture, however, the YouTuber said he considers money as ‘fuel to grow business’.

He explained: “You find a business that you enjoy, that is better for Mother Nature or Earth or people, and there you go, you have a fulfilled life. That’s my theory. When I’m 70 I don’t want to look back and have regrets.”

Elsewhere in the interview, MrBeast spoke about Beast Games and revealed that he’d invested $50 million into the series – which then lost ‘tens of millions’.

The show proved to be a hit with viewers, however MrBeast admitted that spending ‘way too much’ money on the series ended up costing him, adding: “I’m an idiot.”

Stephen King hits out at Donald Trump and Elon Musk with blunt message in surprise return to Twitter

The renowned author seemed to come back to the social media platform specifically to target Trump

Renowned author Stephen King has captivated millions of people across the globe with his mind-bending and lengthy novels, but when he returned to Twitter this week, all he needed was 16 words to get his message across.

King’s surprise comeback to the Elon Musk-owned social media platform came just a few months after the author announced he’d be waving goodbye to it in November 2024.

In a post that’s now pinned to the top of King’s profile, he explained at the time that he’d ‘tried to stay’ on Twitter, but that the ‘atmosphere [had] just become too toxic’.

This is coming from a man who’s made a living come up with terrifying and twisted situations.

“Follow me on Threads, if you like,” King added, referring to Mark Zuckeberg’s rival platform.

But now just a few weeks later, King has returned to Twitter and announced his comeback with a quick post which read: “I’m baaaack! Did you miss me?”

Two minutes after his first post, he shared another tweet in which he took aim at both Donald Trump and Twitter’s owner, Musk.

Suggesting he’d made his return specifically to share his thoughts on the president and his adviser, King wrote: “Just wanted to say that Trump is a traitorous, Putin-loving dips**t! Goes double for Elon!”

The post isn’t the first time King has criticized the pair in recent weeks. Shortly after Trump won the US election in November, King shared a post on Threads in which he claimed Musk was ‘running the show’ for Trump, despite the fact he cannot run for president himself because he was born in South Africa.

King wrote: “You can’t call Elon Musk the President-elect, because he wasn’t elected. In fact, having been born in Pretoria, he is ineligible to become president. Nonetheless, he is running the show. You know that, but it bears repeating.”

King’s clear disapproval of Trump and Musk comes as the pair continue to work together in the White House after Trump declared Musk as being in charge of the Department of Government Efficiency, aka DOGE.

However, the White House recently took a different stance on Musk’s position in the government, as it described him as a senior adviser to the president who had no authority over DOGE.

When it comes to the reference of Vladimir Putin in King’s tweet, it’s worth noting that King spoke out just after Trump warned Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky that he ‘better move fast’ against Russia’s ongoing invasion of his country, or he was ‘not going to have a country left’.

Trump’s comments came after he engaged in a lengthy phone conversation with Putin, which Trump described as ‘highly productive’.

President Trump teased that there are ‘hundreds of billions’ in DOGE savings

US taxpayers could be getting a hefty payout should Donald Trump go ahead with his proposed plans.

The Department of Government Efficiency (often referred to as DOGE) was created by the Trump administration last month.

The organization – which is working with SpaceX founder Elon Musk – was created to ‘dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies’ — and it’s safe to say it’s done just that.

What has DOGE done so far?

Since its creation, DOGE has reportedly made $55 billion in government cuts.

As per the DOGE website, this sum has been saved from ‘a combination of fraud detection/deletion, contract/lease cancellations, contract/lease renegotiations, asset sales, grant cancellations, workforce reductions, programmatic changes, and regulatory savings’.

In a recent update, DOGE said on Twitter that it had ‘terminated 18 grants for $226mm to Comprehensive Centers’, which is likely to have contributed to its $55 billion savings figure.

It’s believed that Musk has set himself the challenge of trying to save $1 trillion in annual cost cuts for the country.

What has Trump said about the DOGE savings?

Speaking yesterday (February 19), President Trump said DOGE’s savings pot is ‘incredible’.

“The numbers are incredible, Elon, so many billions — hundreds of billions,” he teased. He did not give an exact figure to back up the DOGE website’s claims of having saved $55 billion, however.

Trump continued to say of what they might do with the dividends: “There’s even under consideration a new concept where we give 20 percent of the DOGE savings to American citizens and 20 percent goes to paying down debt.”

How much might Americans get from DOGE?

Musk is said to have proposed the idea of giving $5,000 to every taxpaying American.

Dubbed the ‘DOGE Dividend’, the proposal was first put forward by James Fishback, CEO of investment firm Azoria, who has been acting as an outsider advisor for DOGE, says Forbes.

Tweeting the concept earlier this week, Fishback said: “American taxpayers deserve a ‘Doge Dividend’: 20 per cent of the money that Doge saves should be sent back to hard-working Americans as a tax refund check.

“It was their money in the first place! At $2 trillion in Doge savings and 78 million tax-paying households, this is a $5,000 refund per household, with the remaining used to pay down the national debt.”

Musk went on to respond to the suggestion, saying he would ‘check with the president’.

As for when Americans might get the check, part of the proposal shared on social media read: “79 million American households will receive a $5,000 check next summer because of President Trump’s bold leadership.”

Donald Trump has signed off another executive order impacting undocumented migrants

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order seeking to cut ‘all taxpayer-funded benefits’ for undocumented migrants.

Yesterday (February 19), Trump signed another executive order – titled ‘Ending taxpayer subsidization of open borders’ – aimed at targeting ‘benefits for illegal aliens’.

It states: “The plain text of Federal law, including the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (Public Law 104-193) (PRWORA), generally prohibits illegal aliens from obtaining most taxpayer-funded benefits.

“Title IV of the PRWORA states that it is national policy that ‘aliens within the Nation’s borders not depend on public resources to meet their needs,’ and that ‘[i]t is a compelling government interest to remove the incentive for illegal immigration provided by the availability of public benefits.’ But in the decades since the passage of the PRWORA, numerous administrations have acted to undermine the principles and limitations directed by the Congress through that law.”

The order claims former US President Joe Biden’s Administration ‘repeatedly undercut the goals of that law, resulting in the improper expenditure of significant taxpayer resources’.

Trump’s Administration subsequently pledges to ‘uphold the rule of law, defend against the waste of hard-earned taxpayer resources, and protect benefits for American citizens in need, including individuals with disabilities and veterans’.

What it means

Under ‘current welfare laws’, undocumented migrants are ‘generally barred from welfare programs’. If ‘they’re granted parole, they are classified as “qualified aliens” and become eligible for various welfare programs on a sliding scale, with full eligibility granted within five years’.

Trump’s executive order seeks to ‘identify all federally funded programs administered by the agency that currently permit illegal aliens to obtain any cash or non-cash public benefit, and, consistent with applicable law, take all appropriate actions to align such programs with the purposes of this order and the requirements of applicable Federal law, including the PRWORA’.

The order argues for federal payments not to ‘facilitate the subsidization or promotion of illegal immigration’ or ‘abet so-called “sanctuary” policies that seek to shield illegal aliens from deportation’.

Trump signed the order on February 19 (Joe Raedle/Getty Images)

Trump signed the order on February 19 (Joe Raedle/Getty Images)

How it will be enacted

It states within 30 days of the order being signed, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget and the Administrator of the United States DOGE Service will work alongside the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy to ‘identify all other sources of Federal funding for illegal aliens’.

The White House’s ‘fact sheet’ for Trump’s decision to end ‘taxpayer subsidization of open borders’ states authorities should then take ‘corrective action’ to ensure ‘Federal funds to states and localities will not be used to support ‘sanctuary’ policies or assist illegal immigration’.

It resolves: “It mandates improvements in eligibility verification to prevent benefits from going to individuals unlawfully present in the United States.

“President Trump is committed to safeguarding Federal public benefits for American citizens who are truly in need, including individuals with disabilities and veterans.”

Local police in Gainesville, Texas are now investigating the claims of bullying

Warning: This article contains discussion of suicide which some readers may find distressing.

The mother of an 11-year-old girl has spoken out about her daughter allegedly being targeted by ‘bullies’ before she took her own life.

A funeral was held for Jocelynn Rojo Carranza on Wednesday (February 19), after she was found unresponsive by her mom, Marbella Carranza, at their home in Gainesville, Texas on February 3.

Carranza told CNN affiliate KUVN she was ‘waiting for a miracle’ and hoping that her daughter would get better after she found her, but unfortunately there was ‘nothing that could be done’ for her little girl. Jocelynn sadly passed away five days after she was found in her home.

Following her daughter’s passing, Carranza alleged that Jocelynn was being bullied and taunted at her school in Gainesville over the subject of her family’s immigration status.

The mom said that prior to speaking to investigators, she had no previous indication that her daughter was being targeted. She then claims to have learned that bullies said they were ‘going to call immigration so they could take her parents away and she would be left alone’.

“I never knew anything about that,” she said while speaking to KUVN on the day of her daughter’s funeral. “My daughter never showed changes. I mean, there was never anything that gave me a sign that she was suffering from bullying.”

Carranza has spoken to investigators about what could have led to Jocelynn’s death, but she said there’s ‘nothing concrete’ yet when it comes to answers.

The mom has further alleged that the school was aware of her daughter being bullied, explaining that investigators told her Jocelynn had been receiving counseling at school.

“It appears the school was aware of it all, but they never, they never told me what was happening with my daughter,” Carranza said. “It appears she would go once or twice a week to counseling to report what was happening.

“(I want) justice because it’s not fair – the school was negligent for not keeping me informed of what was going on with my daughter.”

The Gainesville Independent School District Police are now investigating the bullying allegations, while the Gainesville Independent School District has said it is ‘deeply saddened’ by the passing of one of its students.

In a statement to UNILAD, the school district added: “Our hearts go out to their family, friends, and the entire Gainesville community during this incredibly difficult time.

“At Gainesville ISD, the safety and well-being of our students are our highest priority. While we cannot comment on specific student matters due to privacy laws, we want to emphasize that we take all reports of bullying and student safety concerns very seriously. Our district follows strict protocols for investigating any allegations, and we are committed to fostering a safe and supportive environment for every student.

“As our school community grieves, we are ensuring that counselors and additional support resources are available for students and staff who may need them. We also encourage

families to reach out to their school administrators if they or their child need any additional support. We remain committed to working with our students, staff, and families to uphold a culture of kindness, inclusion, and respect.”
