Clara Meadmore had more important priorities than having sex during her 108 years on the planet

If you’ve not got a special someone lined up for when the clock strikes 12, how about taking a leaf out of Clara Meadmore’s book?

It’s the end of 2024 and you may be pondering about making a New Year’s resolution.

If so, why not ditch any of the pressures to change up your diet or get on the treadmill, and if you can’t face being told there are ‘plenty more fish in the sea’ for yet another year, go celibate?

And providing you with all the inspiration you may need is a woman who didn’t have sex for a whopping 108 years – yeah your dry patch of three months doesn’t seem so drastic now does it?

Clara Meadmore was born in Glasgow in 1903. She went on to be a secretary and later worked in a telegraph office, as per The Daily Atomic.

At the age of just 12, it’s reported Clara decided she never wanted to get married.

On her 105th birthday in 2008, she said, as quoted by the Mail Online: “I’ve never had a boyfriend – I’ve never been bothered about relationships.

“When I was a girl you only had sex with your husband and I never married.”

While it’s not possible to determine the ‘world’s oldest virgin’ given that sort of information is often kept private, Clara is considered one of the eldest people to openly reveal she’s never had sex.

Not that it’s anyone’s business but hers, she also addressed questions about her sexuality, stating the ‘answer is no’ to anyone asking whether or not she’s homosexual, clarifying: “I have just never been interested in sex.”

And while she entertained multiple notions of romance throughout her life, she was steadfast in her decision to remain a virgin and not even try to test the waters.

She continued: “I imagine there is a lot of hassle involved and I have always been busy doing other things.”

Instead, Clara ‘always had lots of platonic friendships with men but never felt the need to go further than that or marry’.

Friends, alongside Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, gardening, walking and reading kept Clara entertained for her 108 years on earth – absolutely iconic and something for all of us to aspire to going into 2025.

Clara passed away in 2011 at the age of 108.

In previous interviews she resolved: “Everything seems so fast these days. I don’t know a lot about young people or the way they do things. I’m sure its very different.

“I made my mind up at the age of 12 never to marry and I’ve not gone back on that.

“[…] People have their own views on sex, but I was never interested in it. I just never met anyone I wanted to marry, and I’ve always been happy alone.”

Wise words to live by indeed.

I never imagined a simple Christmas wish would turn my world upside down. But when it led me to a date with Santa, followed by unexpected secrets and a jealous friend’s schemes, I was entangled in surprises I never saw coming.

The shopping mall sparkled like something out of a fairytale. Thousands of lights twinkled across every corner, and the air was filled with the scent of pine and cinnamon.

I glanced down at my four-year-old son, Oliver, and couldn’t help but smile. He adored Christmas. His eyes held a childlike wonder and belief in all the little magical moments that made the season so special.

Raising Oliver on my own had been both a challenge and a gift. We had each other, and I tried to make his childhood as warm and bright as possible, even when life got tough.

He was that part of my heart that kept me grounded, reminding me that joy could be found in even the smallest things. We were a team, always cheering each other on. As we strolled through the crowds, Oliver suddenly stopped.

“Mom, look! It’s Santa!”

He pointed eagerly to the big red-suited figure sitting on a golden chair, surrounded by a line of children.

He looked up at me, his face beaming with hope. “Can we go talk to him? Please?”

“Of course, sweetheart,” I replied, smiling down at him as we took our place in line. Oliver fidgeted in excitement, looking up at me with a grin that stretched from ear to ear.

“I have something really important to tell him, Mom,” he whispered, clutching my hand tightly.

“Something special?”

He nodded, his face serious. Whatever he wanted to say, it meant a lot to him. Finally, Oliver approached Santa, glancing back at me before leaning in close to whisper to him.

I couldn’t hear the words, but I saw Santa’s eyes soften, his expression shifting to a kind and gentle smile as he listened. After their moment together, I bent down to Oliver, curiosity bubbling up.

“So,” I asked softly, brushing a lock of his hair from his face. “What did you tell Santa?”

“I can’t tell you, Mom,” Oliver whispered, grinning. “If I tell you, it might not come true!”

I laughed, nodding. “Alright, alright. Well, since you’re keeping secrets, how about we go grab a burger to share? I’m starving.”

He practically jumped with excitement. “Yes! Can I get fries, too?”

“Fries? Of course,” I replied, holding his hand as we made our way to the food court.

As we settled in and started digging into our food, I caught a flash of red from the corner of my eye. Turning, I saw Santa himself standing by our table and holding an ice cream.

“Would you two mind if I joined you for a while?” he asked, looking between us.

Oliver looked up at me. “Can he, Mom? Can he?”

“Of course,” I said, smiling at Santa. “Please, join us.”

Santa pulled up a chair and sat down across from Oliver, who stared at him with awe.

“So, Oliver,” Santa began, leaning in as if to share a secret, “what’s your favorite Christmas treat?”

“Oh, that’s easy! Chocolate chip cookies! Especially the big ones Mom makes.”

Santa chuckled, licking his ice cream. “Sounds like your mom knows what she’s doing. I have to agree—chocolate chip cookies are hard to beat.”

Oliver nodded. “And what’s your favorite, Santa?”

“Oh, now that’s a tough question,” Santa replied, scratching his chin thoughtfully. “I think… hot cocoa, with a mountain of ice cream on top.”

I felt a warm smile spread across my face, watching how easily he connected with Oliver. We spent a while like that, laughing and chatting.

After we finished eating, Santa turned to me with a gentle smile. “How about a little more holiday fun?”

Oliver’s eyes widened. “Like, at the amusement park?”

Santa grinned. “Exactly! How about some ice skating?”

Oliver turned to me, practically buzzing. “Mom, please! Can we?”

I couldn’t resist his enthusiasm. “Alright, let’s go!”

At the rink, Oliver held tightly onto both our hands, wobbling on his skates as we took our first few laps.

Santa’s hearty laughter echoed, steady and joyful, each time Oliver let out a triumphant cheer after staying upright.

“You’re doing great, Oliver!” Santa said, giving him an encouraging smile.

Oliver beamed. “I feel like I’m flying!”

As the evening continued, we wandered through paths lined with sparkling lights, gazing up at reindeer, snowflakes, and candy canes glowing against the night sky.

Oliver skipped ahead, and I couldn’t help but notice how Santa kept his costume on the whole time, staying completely in character.

“Thank you for tonight,” I said softly to Santa when Oliver was busy watching a display of twinkling stars. “It means the world to him… and to me.”

“It’s my pleasure. Tonight has been a gift for me too.”

Eventually, the time came for us to head home. Santa walked us the whole way, keeping Oliver entertained with little stories about life at the North Pole. As we reached our front door, Santa knelt, looking into Oliver’s eyes.

“I’ll do my very best to make your wish come true,” he said, giving Oliver a wink.

“Thank you, Santa! You’re the best.”

Before I could say a word, he took my hand, and with a gentle, sincere look, he lifted it to his lips, pressing a warm kiss on my knuckles. As he walked away, his red coat blending into the soft glow of streetlights, I felt a flutter of happiness and warmth.

Days went by, and although I kept myself busy, I couldn’t shake that evening with Santa from my mind. I didn’t fully understand it, but I felt drawn back to the mall, maybe just to see him one more time.

As I wandered the holiday displays, I suddenly heard a familiar voice.

“Laura? Is that you?”

I turned and found myself face-to-face with Mia, an old childhood friend.

“Mia! Wow, it’s been ages!” I hugged her, delighted.

“Oh, that’s true!” she replied. “Let’s catch up over coffee.”

We settled in, and before I knew it, I was telling her all about that night with Santa—how he’d been so kind to Oliver and how, well… I’d felt something special.

Mia’s eyes widened. “Laura, this is amazing! You have to find out who this Santa really is.”

“Oh, Mia. He’s probably just someone doing his holiday job.”

She nudged me. “Look! He’s right over there. Go say hi!”

Before I could stop her, Mia gave me a gentle push toward Santa. Blushing, I looked over, and… Santa noticed me and waved.

“Well, if it isn’t my favorite family from the other night,” he said, smiling warmly as he approached.

“Hi,” I replied.

“Would you like to go out for coffee with me sometime?”

“Sure.”

When I turned to share my excitement with Mia, I saw she’d disappeared into a nearby clothing store.

***

That evening, a courier arrived at my door with a small card. It was an invitation, in neat handwriting, for a Christmas Eve date at a cozy café. My heart leaped with nerves. I quickly called Mia.

“Should I go? It’s Christmas Eve.”

“Laura, you’d be crazy not to! You can still be home with Oliver afterward. This is your chance!”

Her words stayed with me, filling me with courage. I dressed up, arranged for Oliver’s nanny to stay with him, and headed off for my Christmas Eve date.

***

That evening, I arrived at the café full of excitement and quiet hope. I was pleasantly surprised! He was handsome, charming, and carried himself with an easy grace.

For a moment, I felt like a character in one of those holiday romance movies, swept away by a little Christmas magic. But minutes later, my gaze landed on a glint of metal on his left hand. A wedding ring!

“So… are you… married?”

“Yes,” he replied nonchalantly, as if we were discussing the weather. “But they’re away for the holidays. A little fun never hurt anyone, right?”

I felt my face heat up. “Excuse me?”

“No need to look so serious.”

Without another word, I grabbed my coat and bag and hurried out of the café, barely holding back tears. What had started as a night full of promise had soured so quickly.

I walked through the city streets, the chill air and bright lights doing nothing to lift my spirits. When I finally walked home, Oliver’s face lit up.

“Mom! Santa’s here! Look!”

My breath caught as I looked over and saw… our Santa from the mall!

“How dare you!” I snapped. “You’ve ruined enough for one night. Get out. And stay away from us.”

Santa stormed off, and Oliver ran off upstairs, his disappointment clear.

The nanny shook her head. “He spent the whole day making Oliver happy… maybe that’s worth something.”

I was confused and ashamed.

But if he’d been here all day, then who was at the café?

***

Overwhelmed with suspicion and regret, I set off to Mia’s house, determined to get answers. When I arrived and saw a man in a Santa costume standing outside, I stopped short. He wasn’t the one I’d met at the café.

“Oh, God…” I whispered.

I kicked out the wrong Santa! But with the costume, who could’ve known?

I stepped closer. The man with a sad smile was watching a young boy playing in the yard.

“My name’s Jack,” he explained. “This is… well, this is my son’s home.”

I felt my heart sink as I put the pieces together. “Your son?”

He nodded, his gaze fixed on the boy.

“Mia’s my ex-wife. She doesn’t allow me to see him often. Playing Santa was my only chance to maybe… hold him if he came to make a wish.”

I gasped. “You’re the Santa from the mall! The one who spent the evening with us?”

“That’s me. Mia found out and came over, demanding more child support. That’s when she must have run into you.”

“Oh my god! She set me up! She must have sent that awful man to the café to make sure I’d never see you again.”

Jack sighed. “Mia gave me an ultimatum. Either I return to her, or she’ll cut me off from my son for good.”

“She did all this because she was jealous? That’s… that’s horrible!”

“After she threatened me, I thought I’d at least come spend Christmas Eve with you and Oliver.” He looked up, his eyes earnest. “I haven’t felt so happy in years as I did that night with you both.”

I didn’t know what to say. Everything I’d assumed was wrong. Finally, I managed, “I’m sorry, Jack. I… I should trust my heart.”

“It’s okay. The night isn’t over yet.”

We picked up Oliver and went to Jack’s home, where he’d prepared a beautiful holiday feast, a tree lit with warm lights, and gifts waiting under it.

That night became a true holiday filled with laughter, warmth, and the family joy we’d all been missing.

Some philanthropic entrepreneurs and show business stars believe that wealth should not be handed down but earned. Simon Cowell is one of them.

Having billionaire parents can bring huge benefits and great legacies. However, not all billionaires in the world intend to leave their wealth to their children.

Like Simon Cowell, they all love their children but don’t believe they should pass down generational wealth. They would rather teach their children to create their own wealth. Before we get into Cowell’s views on generational wealth, let’s have a look at his love life.

Cowell’s Family Life

Cowell is the proud father of an 10-year-old boy, Eric, the fruit of his beautiful love affair with Lauren Silverman. She is also the mother of a teenage boy, Adam, from a previous relationship.

When Cowell and Silverman got together, the news hit the headlines. However, the news came as a surprise because no one expected him to get into a committed relationship.

The pair’s first meeting was in Barbados, made possible through the intermediary of her then-husband, Andrew Silverman. After that, Cowell often joined them during the holidays. A few years later, Cowell and Silverman started having an affair. In July 2013, it was announced that Silverman was pregnant by Simon.

At that time, she was still married, and her ex-husband filed for divorce a few days later. However, although he was devastated by this betrayal, he found it essential to do what he felt was right for their son.

On November 17, 2013, the media came across Cowell and Silverman as they stood outside an establishment where they’d just eaten. The press asked the creator of “America’s Got Talent” what he discussed with his future in-laws since it was the first time they were meeting.

The star joked that they spoke about the weather and revealed they didn’t talk about any future plans. When asked if they’d discussed wedding plans, Cowell diverted the conversation by sharing that they actually spoke about the media.

The “Britain’s Got Talent” creator hugged, kissed, and shook hands with Silverman’s father and mother, with the former stating how he “loves” Cowell and that he is “the best.” Silverman’s father also said there was no one like “this guy” while talking about his future son-in-law.

Silverman also noted how her father and the media mogul looked alike, which her mother agreed with before she and her husband bid the couple farewell. On Valentine’s Day 2014, Silverman and Cowell welcomed their son Eric.

Cowell rushed from London to New York when he learned of her labor and arrived in time to attend the birth of his son. Even though the star never saw himself as a father, his relationship with Silverman changed his perspective. The proud father said:

“He’s the most amazing thing that ever happened to me. I adore him.”

When their son first arrived, Cowell confessed that he struggled to bond with the little one, but they’ve become closer since then, and he even tells his little boy his secrets. The couple is not yet clear if their family will increase, but for the moment, they enjoy the relationship they have.

In January 2022, the celebrity was seen outside a Malibu coffee shop, and when asked to confirm if he’d proposed to Silverman, he smiled and thanked the paparazzi, who then congratulated him. A friend believes the couple will marry in Barbados.

There is no doubt that as Cowell has made a name for himself over the years, he has also amassed a fortune for his retirement. But being a hard worker, he has mentioned that the idea of retirement terrifies him.

In April 2022, Cowell joked about retiring, saying that he was still in his 40s and didn’t know what he’d do if he retired because he didn’t play things like golf. He confessed that he’d be bored out of his mind.

The star has an estimated net worth of $600 million from earning about $50-$100 million per year but still plans to work until he’s old and frail. With such earnings, he was listed as the 35th richest celebrity globally on Forbes 2020 list. His financial accolades are all thanks to his business sense and for being a die-hard entrepreneur.

Having gone through tough times to build his wealth, Cowell revealed that there would be no inheritance for his son. The star revealed he does not believe in the philosophy of passing down generational wealth.

He believes that once a child inherits money, they lose the drive and incentive to multiply the money or work hard. Cowell is not willing to take those risks with his son. The star feels everyone should be able to work for their own money.

In a 2018 interview, he gave the media a look into his Beverly Hills home. Cowell sat by a piano with his family of three and watched his son press the keys erratically and admitted he’d “love it” if his son took over his empire.

The idea of Eric taking over was incentive enough for him to ensure things continued running smoothly for years to come. However, he reiterated that he didn’t believe in people having things without doing anything to earn them, adding:

“I would do what my dad did. I would have him start as an intern, learn the job…”

As for the money he has worked for, he plans to leave it to charities that deal with children and dogs. He has four dogs, so, understandably, he is looking out for his furry friends. Despite not leaving money for his children to inherit, he’s going to make sure he leaves aN enduring legacy behind.

Cowell‘s legacy will be borne out of giving people the opportunity to do well for themselves and teaching them things he knows. Currently, fans have been lucky to see glimpses of the star’s son on outings and interviews.

Cowell Bonds with Eric and Shares His Wedding Plans with Silverman

On May 3, 2023, Cowell and his fiancée were spotted on an outing with Eric in Malibu, California. Years earlier, in 2018, he appeared in a “Loose Women” YouTube clip with his father.

The loving father cuddled the boy as they sat on a couch and asked him if he wanted to do the show’s interview with him or if he preferred watching. The cute little boy said he wanted to do the interview with his father, who then asked him what “daddy” had been drinking that day.

Eric hilariously revealed his father had “annoying juice,” which the star explained meant he was “really annoying.” The “Australia’s Got Talent” creator tried to focus on the interview, but his son couldn’t sit still and started putting his hand up his father’s shirt.

Cowell laughed and stopped the child, revealing he couldn’t be serious when his son was tickling him! Eric cheekily confessed that he was the one being annoying now before his father asked him to leave and return at the end of the interview.

Over two minutes into the interview, the celebrity spotted his son and, once again, halted the interview to ask the boy what he had with him. Eric appeared in view holding two wooden clothing pegs with his doting father telling him he hoped he wasn’t going to put them on his nose.

Immediately after saying that, little Eric tried to place one on his father’s nose, leading the parent to laugh and reveal that it hurt. Cowell then asked the boy why he was wearing his shirt before the interviewer noted how that qualified as “annoying juice!”

The media mogul said people usually had disagreements, got drunk, and forgot what they said at such events.

The “Italia’s Got Talent” founder agreed that the boy had been drinking annoying juice. The interview turned to Eric, with Cowell being asked what he thought of the boy getting into the entertainment industry to host and judge talent shows.

The star said he’d be “100%” okay with it, but he wanted the boy to remain on his side of the desk, as a judge and not as a performer. The father of one revealed that his son came with him a lot to his work in England and America.

He said the boy liked pressing the buzzer on the shows because it was annoying and noisy. The “Red or Black?” game show creator thought his son had good taste and would be good at it. Just then, Eric jumped on him, trying to put the pegs on his nose!

That same year he was asked to share the naughty things he’s taught his son, Cowell hilariously confessed to teaching the boy to eat with his mouth open! The star admitted that it cracked him up whenever the boy did it.

The media mogul explained how people usually had disagreements, got drunk, and forgot what they said at such events. He also felt the lead-up to the occasion was stressful. Ultimately, only time will reveal what direction Cowell and his fiancée take for their special day.

Huge Blackheads: Causes, Removal, Treatment and Prevention

Huge Blackheads: Causes, Removal, Treatment and Prevention

Blackheads are a type of acne. They can form when excess oils and dead skin cells build up and block a pore, creating a small sebum (oil) plug at the opening of the pore.1
When the plug pushes through the opening of the pore, the pore widens and becomes exposed to outside air. Once the buildup of dead skin cells and oils is exposed to the air, a chemical reaction occurs that makes the spot turn a dark color.2

Blackheads may also be referred to as open comedones.1 They are common, with the potential to affect people of various ages—from adolescents to adults.3

What Do Blackheads Look Like?

A close-up of blackheads on a person's nose

Blackheads appear on the skin as tiny, dark spots. The spot is typically 1-3 millimeters in diameter and can look gray, brown, or black. Blackheads may be flat or slightly raised.34 They tend to give skin a rough texture.5

You might initially mistake blackheads for dirt. If that’s the case and you try to scrub the “dirt” away, the look of the blackheads may worsen.6

What you likely won’t see is any sign of inflammation, such as redness and swelling. Unlike other types of acne such as papules (raised red bumps) or pustules (pus-filled acne lesions), blackheads are a non-inflammatory type of acne.4

In young adolescents, blackheads are commonly found on the nose, forehead, and chin. But they can appear anywhere on the face, as well as on the chest and back.31

What Causes Blackheads?

Blackheads are formed when the skin’s pores become plugged with oil and dead skin cells.6 When these oil plugs push through the openings of pores, the pores become exposed to outside air, causing a chemical reaction that leads to blackheads.3

A blackhead is one type of comedo, or acne bump. Comedones can be open or closed, based on whether the skin surface is disrupted. Since blackheads disrupt the skin surface, they are referred to as open comedones. A comedo that has it surface in tact is called a closed comedo, or a whitehead.5 Blackheads can form if whiteheads open up the pores.4

You might be more likely to get acne like blackheads if your parents had acne. You might also be more prone to blackheads and other types of acne if you have oiler skin. This can happen if you experience hormonal changes from factors like puberty or stress. Using greasy cosmetic and hair products, sweating a lot, and excessively touching your skin can also make your skin oiler.7

How To Get Rid of Blackheads

First, don’t touch, pop, or squeeze blackheads. This can worsen acne, cause an infection, or lead to permanent scarring.26

While they can be a nuisance to deal with, there are steps you can take to eliminate blackheads.6 This includes several at-home treatment options. You can also visit a healthcare provider such as a dermatologist—a medical doctor who specializes in conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails—for additional treatment options.8

Safe, effective blackhead treatments include:

Face Wash With Acne-Fighting Ingredients

To get rid of blackheads, start by washing your face twice daily with a medicated face wash formulated to treat acne. Look for a face wash containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.6 Benzoyl peroxide eliminates excess acne-causing bacteria, and salicylic acid unclogs blocked pores.69

Topical Acne Treatments

There are several acne treatments available over-the-counter (OTC) or by prescription that can help get rid of blackheads when applied directly to the skin once or twice per day. These include benzoyl peroxide (Benzoyl), azelaic acid (Finacea), and retinoids, which have all been shown to be effective at treating and preventing blackheads.10

Both benzoyl peroxide and azelaic acid kill acne-causing bacteria, while azelaic acid decreases excess production of keratin, a natural substance that can lead to acne when produced in excess.11

Prescription retinoids—skincare products derived from vitamin A—such as tretinoin cream, can help reduce oiliness, unclog pores, and increase skin cell turnover.6

Some treatments also include sulfur, which can break down blackheads.

These topical treatments can come in a variety of forms, including gels, lotions, creams, soaps, and pads.12

Extractions

Blackhead extraction is a manual method of removing blackheads. It is performed in a dermatologist’s office. When performed correctly, the extraction is a safe treatment that does not leave any scarring. Extractions are usually only recommended if OTC treatments have not been effective.13

During the procedure, the skin is lightly pierced with a needle or a surgical blade. Next, a comedone extractor is applied with light-to-medium pressure on top of the blackhead until the tool removes all the clogged dead skin cells and debris.13

Chemical Peels

Performed by a dermatologist, chemical peels are another in-office treatment. The procedure removes the skin’s outer layer to resurface the skin and enhance collagen production. The treatment uses high concentrations of beta-hydroxy acids like salicylic acid.13

While chemical peels are generally well-tolerated, there can be side effects such as mild discomfort, redness, irritation, or post-inflammatory lightening or darkening of skin following treatment.14

Because there are more mild acne treatments people can try first, chemical peels are considered a complementary treatment and are not often used as an initial treatment option for blackheads and other types of comedones.13

Editor’s Note: While some in-office treatments can pose risks like scarring or infection if performed improperly, the risks are greatly minimized if you see a board-certified dermatologist for diagnosis and treatment. These doctors have training and experience in skincare treatments and procedures, so they can properly assess your skin and determine the right treatment for your blackheads.8

How To Prevent Blackheads

To prevent blackheads from occurring or returning, there are a number of tips you can implement into your everyday routine at home. You can prevent blackheads by doing the following:615

  • Gently cleanse your skin regularly: Wash your face after sweating and up to two times per day. Use a gentle cleanser, and apply the cleanser with your fingertips. Avoid harsh scrubbing with washcloths, sponges, or other cleaning tools that can irritate the skin.
  • Shampoo your hair regularly: An excess of natural hair oils can cause acne on your forehead. To prevent this, shampoo your hair more often and tie your hair away from your face to help prevent blackheads and other types of acne from forming.
  • Use non-comedogenic skincare: Opt for skincare products that are labeled as “non-comedogenic.” This designation means these products are free of pore-clogging ingredients that can lead to acne.
  • Give your treatment time to work: Acne treatments need six to eight weeks to make a difference. Be patient and stay the course. If you don’t see improvement after this period of time, schedule an appointment with a dermatologist. A dermatologist can recommend or prescribe other treatments, such as prescription-strength acne medication or extractions and microdermabrasion, if at-home treatments aren’t effective.
  • Keep your hands off your face: Don’t pop, pick, or squeeze your acne. Touching blackheads can worsen existing acne and extend the time it takes for them to heal. Squeezing acne can cause scarring, infection, or dark spots called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
  • Be sun-safe: Use sunscreen or wear a hat when outside. It’s also advisable to avoid tanning beds, which can worsen acne. Some acne medications can also make the skin extra sensitive to skin-damaging ultraviolet rays from the sun and tanning beds.

A Quick Review

A blackhead is a small, tiny dark spot that forms on the skin when a pore become clogged with excess oils and dead skin cells. A blackhead appears dark—either gray, brown, or black—because of a chemical reaction that happens when the buildup of oil and dead skin cells pushes through the opening of a pore and is exposed to the air. Blackheads are more commonly seen on the face, chest, and back.

There are a number of methods you can use to treat blackheads, including medicated acne face washes and topical acne treatments such as retinoids and benzoyl peroxide. If you are having trouble getting rid of blackheads at home, schedule an appointment with a dermatologist to discuss additional treatment options, such as a procedure like an extraction.

Blackheads can be a bother. Fortunately, there are some simple practices you can try at home to prevent blackheads from appearing in the first place, such as keeping your hands and hair off your face and cleaning your skin regularly.

  • antibiotics
  • benzoyl peroxide
  • salicylic acid

Oral contraceptives

Oral contraceptives can be used to help treat hormonal acne in people assigned female at birth.

The Food and Drug Administration has approved threeTrusted Source oral contraceptives for the treatment of acne. These include a combination of ethinyl estradiol and one of the following medications:

  • drospirenone (Yaz)
  • norgestimate
  • norethindrone

Together, these ingredients target the hormones that can contribute to acne. This can be especially helpful during peaks in hormones, such as ovulation.

Oral contraceptives may not be an option for you if you have a history of blood clots, high blood pressure, or breast cancer. You also shouldn’t take these if you smoke.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil may help decreaseTrusted Source inflammation, bacteria, and oxidative stress that could contribute to acne.

Tea tree oil is available in skin care products like cleansers and toners. You can also use tea tree essential oil as a spot treatment.

Dilute tea tree essential oil with a carrier oil before use. Popular carrier oils include coconut, jojoba, and olive. Add about 12 drops of carrier oil to every one to two drops of essential oil.

Alpha hydroxy acid

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are plant acids derived mostly from citrus fruits. AHAs are a popularTrusted Source natural remedy for removing excess dead skin cells that clog pores and minimizing the appearance of acne scars.

AHAs can be found in many OTC masks and creams. As with retinoids, AHAs can increase your skin’s sun sensitivity. You should always wear sunscreen when using products with AHA.

Green tea

Topical green tea solutions can help reduceTrusted Source inflammation and lesions associated with acne.

You can also try drinking a few cups of green tea daily. However, minimal research exists on the benefits of drinking green tea for acne.

How does diet impact hormonal acne?

The association between diet and hormonal acne isn’t fully understood.

ResearchTrusted Source suggests that some high-glycemic and dairy foods could affect hormones like insulin and androgen, causing acne to develop.

If you have hormonal acne, you may consider limiting sugar, dairy, and refined carbs, such as white bread and pasta.

After burying her eight-year-old daughter, Lily, Ashley returns home, drowning in grief and exhaustion. But something unexpected awaits in her backyard, pulling her out of the numbness and forcing her to confront a mystery she never could have anticipated.

I wasn’t ready to say goodbye, even though I thought I was. They said it would be peaceful at the end, and maybe it was for Lily. But for me, the pain cut deeper than anything I could imagine. My little girl was gone, and I didn’t know how to make sense of a world without her in it.

It’s been a week since we laid her to rest. The days leading up to her death were a blur of hospital beds, whispered prayers, and the slow, cruel slipping away of her laughter. Today, we buried her, but it didn’t feel real. I moved through the funeral like a shadow of myself. Family and friends came, faces blurred by my tears.

“Ashley, I’m so sorry,” Aunt Ruth said, wrapping me in her arms. Her perfume was too strong. I didn’t want to be hugged. I just wanted Lily.

“She was such a light,” someone else added. I nodded, but I couldn’t really hear them.

All I could think of was Lily’s laugh. How her little giggle could fill a room. I’d never hear it again. That thought crushed me more than anything. I wanted to scream, but no sound came out.

As people filtered out, offering their condolences, I just kept staring at the empty chair where Lily should’ve been. My body felt heavy, like I was dragging myself through mud, and my mind kept wandering back to her final days.

“Let me know if you need anything,” a voice said as I walked out of the cemetery. I nodded but didn’t respond. What could anyone do?

The drive home was silent. I couldn’t turn on the radio—music felt wrong, somehow. I just wanted quiet. The kind of quiet where you can pretend the world stopped with your grief.

When I pulled into the driveway, I wasn’t even sure how I got there. I sat in the car for a minute, staring at the house, trying to gather the energy to go inside. I didn’t want to face that empty space. Not without her.

But something stopped me before I could get out.

There, in the backyard, was a tent.

A huge, brightly colored tent. The kind you’d see at a circus. Red and yellow stripes, with little flags fluttering at the top. It didn’t make sense. My heart jumped into my throat.

“What… is that?” I whispered to myself.

I blinked, rubbed my eyes. Maybe I was hallucinating. Grief does strange things to people, right? I was exhausted and emotionally drained. But no, the tent was still there. Bold, bright, and out of place. It was like a splash of color in a black-and-white world.

I got out of the car slowly, my legs feeling like they might give way at any second. Who would put a tent in my yard? And on today, of all days? My head spun with questions. Was this some sort of prank? Or had I completely lost it?

I walked closer, every step feeling heavier than the last. The wind picked up, rustling the colorful flags on top of the tent. My heart pounded so hard I thought it might burst.

“This can’t be real,” I muttered, clenching my fists.

But it was real. As I got closer, I could see the details—the stitching on the fabric, the wooden stakes holding it in place. My mind raced. There was no note, no sign of who had put it there or why.

I reached out, my hand trembling as I touched the flap of the tent. It felt solid, real. My stomach twisted. I didn’t want to open it, but I had to know what was inside.

With a deep breath, I gripped the edge of the flap and pulled it open.

I opened it slowly, my breath shallow, heart racing. Inside, there was something bundled up in the middle of the space. For a second, my mind couldn’t make sense of it. It was wrapped in a blanket, small and still. My stomach twisted, and I couldn’t stop the flood of memories that hit me all at once.

Lily, lying in the hospital bed. So pale. So fragile. The tubes, the machines. I remember her tiny body swallowed by the blankets, the way she barely moved in those last few days. My knees nearly buckled under the weight of it all.

“No,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “No, not again…”

I took a step forward, my whole body shaking. The sight in front of me felt like another cruel joke, like the world was mocking me. Why today? Why now?

Suddenly, the bundle moved.

I gasped, freezing in place. My heart pounded so loud I could hear it in my ears. For a split second, I didn’t know what to do. My mind spun, expecting the worst, preparing for more pain.

But then, a small head popped out from under the blanket. A tiny Labrador puppy, its fur soft and golden like sunlight. It blinked up at me with wide, curious eyes, a pink bow tied around its neck. My breath caught in my throat. I stared, completely overwhelmed.

“What… what are you doing here?” I whispered, my voice cracking.

The puppy wiggled out of the blanket and stumbled toward me, wagging its little tail. It was so full of life, so innocent, a stark contrast to the grief that had consumed me for so long. I knelt down slowly, reaching out to touch the soft fur, still in disbelief. My fingers trembled as they brushed against the puppy’s coat, warm and alive.

Tears welled up in my eyes. “Why is there a puppy here? Who did this?” My voice broke, the confusion mixing with the heavy sadness I had carried all day.

As I stroked the puppy, I noticed something else—an envelope tucked under the blanket. My heart skipped a beat. With shaking hands, I picked it up and stared at it for a moment. The handwriting on the front was familiar. My breath hitched as I recognized it. Lily’s handwriting. Messy, but hers.

Tears blurred my vision as I carefully opened the envelope. Inside was a note, short and simple. My hands shook as I read the words.

“Dear Mommy,

I know you’re sad because I had to go to heaven. But I wanted to leave you something to help you smile again. I asked Daddy to get you a puppy, so you’ll have someone to cuddle with when you’re missing me. Her name is Daisy, and she loves to play! Please take care of her for me. I’ll always be with you, watching from above. I love you so much.

Love, Lily.”

I dropped to my knees, clutching the note to my chest. The tears came in waves, and I couldn’t stop them. I cried harder than I had at the funeral. Harder than I had since the moment I knew I was losing her.

“Lily…” I sobbed, my voice barely a whisper.

Even in her final days, my sweet little girl had been thinking of me. She knew. She knew how much I’d miss her, how much it would hurt. And she found a way to make sure I wouldn’t be alone. A puppy. A new life to care for, to love.

I held Daisy close, the warmth of her little body grounding me in the moment. I could still feel Lily’s presence. The tent, the puppy—it was all part of her last gift to me. A way to remind me that even though she was gone, her love would always be with me.

The tent didn’t feel so strange anymore. It was a place for me to find Daisy, a place to feel connected to Lily one more time.

Over the next few days, Daisy became my shadow. She followed me everywhere, her tiny paws tapping on the floor as she scampered after me. At first, I didn’t know what to do. How could I care for this puppy when my heart was so shattered?

But Daisy didn’t give me much choice. She’d nuzzle into my side when I was curled up on the couch, licking my hand until I smiled through my tears. She’d bounce around with her little pink bow, full of energy and joy, reminding me of the brightness Lily used to bring.

Every morning, I’d sit with my coffee, Daisy at my feet, and I’d think of Lily. I’d imagine her watching over me, her smile still lighting up the sky. And every time Daisy curled up in my lap, I felt a piece of Lily’s love wrapping around me.

Daisy wasn’t a replacement. Nothing could ever replace my Lily. But she was a part of her. A living, breathing reminder of the love Lily left behind. Slowly, day by day, the weight on my chest lightened, just a little.

Taking care of Daisy pulled me out of the fog I’d been in. I had to get up, feed her, play with her. She needed me, just like Lily had known I’d need her.

Terrifying simulation 'unlocks new fear' in people after showing reality of how deep the ocean is

Zack D Films is back at it again with a terrifying YouTube simulation

Many people have admitted to unlocking a phobia they didn’t even know they had after watching this terrifying ocean simulation.

While the fear of deep water isn’t something unusual, usually, the deep water in question is nothing more than swimming in the ocean, minutes from the shore.

Of course, that’s still pretty deep but it could always be deeper.

So deep in fact, that you could build several skyscrapers on top of one another from the seabed and still wouldn’t break the surface of the water.

Unfortunately, one YouTuber has scared people s***less with his simulation of the deepest part of the sea, and now those who didn’t consider themselves phobic have had a ‘new fear unlocked’.

Zack D Films has made a name for himself for creating the scariest videos for viewers to flick through.

Not only has he shown people what happens to your head if you go into space without a space suit, but he also looked into numerous historical medical mysteries and torture methods to freak out his followers.

But now, he’s taken on the deep blue.

Starting his video, he shared that ‘if you took the tallest building in the world, and tried to reach the Titanic, you would actually need five of them stacked together to make it.’

This is because the Titanic sits at 12,000 feet deep and the tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai which is 2,716.54 feet tall.

Imagine having to scale that distance all the way below in the darkest depths, just to find solid ground?

That’s not even the worst of it as Zack went on to share that this is just the average depth of the ocean, and that there are trenches which reach so much further down.

Such as the Mariana Trench.

Known as the deepest part of the ocean, it sits at 35,791 feet.

That’s literally deeper than Mount Everest’s height.

It’s also deeper than the height that commercial airlines tend to fly in the sky at 35,000 feet.

So, you can see just how unfathomable it would be to travel all the way down there where there’s no source of light and many species will never be discovered due to its conditions and lack of visibility.

According to Zach, it would take 13 Burj Khalifa buildings to reach the bottom of the trench, which would be impossible to do without the help of technology and a lot of time to decompress.

Since his clip was released, people have now realised that they too suffer with a fear of deep sea.

Let’s be honest, anyone would say the same after seeing the video, and I’d be asking questions if a person was fine with it.

A commenter wrote: “New fear unlocked: Being 13 Burj Khalifas below the oceans surface.”

Someone else said: “The most scary death is drowning in the ocean. You cant do anything and everything is becoming darker and darker until you die. It’s like falling into a bottomless pit.”

Another commented: “Thank you for adding the shark his role was very important.”

So, it’s safe to say that this is one of the worst simulations for people to watch.

Liam Hemsworth called out Jennifer Lawrence for ‘disgusting’ habit while filming kissing scenes

Liam Hemsworth called out Jennifer Lawrence for 'disgusting' habit while filming kissing scenes

The actors shared the screen across four films in The Hunger Games franchise

Liam Hemsworth and Jennifer Lawrence are best known for their time together on The Hunger Games franchise, but the pair are also known for their public back-and-forth about their kissing scenes.

They play Gale and Katniss, respectively, though their friendship goes beyond the screen.

After becoming close from their time together over four films, it’s no surprise that the actors take playful jabs at each other through the media about anything and everything.

Fans of the titles would have been pleased to see the two finally share an on-screen smooch though, as they shared a moment on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

But it turns out that Hemsworth ended up feeling ‘pretty uncomfortable’ when it came to shooting the intimate scene, as he explained why to Jimmy Fallon on his talk show back in 2014.

“Any time I had to kiss Jennifer was pretty uncomfortable,” he began.

The Australian went on: “When you look at it on the outside, it looks like a great picture,

“She’s one of my best friends. I love her. But if we had a kissing scene, she would make a point of eating garlic or tuna fish or something that was disgusting.”

But it looks like, years later, it still bothers Lawrence, as she addressed his comments during her appearance on famous YouTube series Hot Ones.

Speaking to the host of the online show, Sean Evans, the American actor laughed before explaining: “It was not intentional,

“It was just what I was eating, and then we’d kiss. He should just get over it,” she jokingly said.

But the pair haven’t been shy to talk about their friendship, with Lawrence previously admitting that he helped her ‘stand up’ for herself.

Hemsworth isn’t the last actor that the Passengers actor formed a friendly relationship with, though, as she also admitted that it was ‘really, really hard’ to work with Jonah Hill.

She explained to Vanity Fair: “It was really, really hard filming with Jonah, and just not ruining take after take, laughing.

“We one time dedicated an entire day to him just improv-ing insults at me. It was amazing.”

Lawrence went on to praise Hill’s talent for improv, adding that ‘he and Meryl were the only ones who should do that kind of improv’.

“I mean, he’s just a comedic master. I mean we all did some [improv] just not as well as Jonah,” she said.

One scene that featured in the film’s trailer shows Hill’s character telling Lawrence and DiCaprio to: “Sit tight and assess.”

“The sit tight comes first then you’ve got to digest it, that’s the assessment period,” Hill says.

Lawrence reflects: “See? That wasn’t in the script Jonah.”
