People aren’t terribly pleased with Snoop Dogg at the moment.

The rap star took to the stage at president-elect Donald Trump’s so-called ‘Crypto Ball’ that took place on Friday (January 17) ahead of his inauguration tomorrow.

In videos of the night, Snoop Dogg is seen stood behind some DJ decks while performing some of his best-loved songs for the audience filled with cryptocurrency executives.

Speaking to Reuters, attendees said that Rick Ross and Soulja Boy also performed on the night.

In a video that’s doing the rounds online of Snoop’s performance, his fans were quick to criticize him.

“This is culturally embarrassing and disrespectful asf,” one fumed on Instagram.

Noting the late rap greats T-Pac and Nipsey Hussel, another wrote: “Nipsey and Pac would never!!!”

“Disappointed in Snoop,” penned a different person, as someone else said: “All money ain’t good money. There is no way Snoop NEED a check. You can turn down somethings.”

Others have suggested that the rapper is a hypocrite, having publicly spoken out against Trump around the time of his first inauguration in 2017.

Snoop says in an newly resurfaced clip: “So ain’t nobody gon’ perform for Donald Trump huh? Which of you jiggaboo a** ni***s gon’ be the first one to do it?”

He went on to say he would ‘roast the f**k’ out of anyone for doing it.

The same year, Snoop released a music video for his track ‘Lavender’ that saw him aiming a gun at a clown dressed like Trump.

But Snoop seems somewhat unbothered about people’s recent criticisms and, in a video shared by fellow performer Rick Ross, the ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ rapper said: “It’s that crypto, see. Got a real Crip up in the Crypto Ball, bang bang.”

Away from the performances given on the night, Trump’s Crypto Ball was part of his campaign to become a so-called ‘crypto president’.

When he returns to office, the 78-year-old is expected issue executive orders aimed at reducing crypto regulatory roadblocks and promoting widespread adoption of digital assets.

Meanwhile, Trump has released his very own meme coin that’s so far made more than 500 people millionaires.

Within just six hours of its release, the coin went from a few cents to $14, and it just kept climbing from there.

It eventually went on to hit highs of nearly $5.5 billion, as per CoinMarketCap.com, thus making the few hundred investors very rich, very quickly.

Erik and Lyle Menendez were sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for the murder of their parents

Warning: This article contains discussion of sexual assault which some readers may find distressing.

Erik and Lyle Menendez could be resentenced by a judge and released from prison following a ‘recommendation for resentencing’.

After Monsters, a Netflix true crime-inspired TV show, was released last year, public interest was renewed in the case of the Menendez brothers, whose story was explored in the second season of Ryan Murphy’s wildly successful series.

For those who don’t know, the brothers were found guilty in the 1989 murders of their parents Kitty and Jose Menendez and were sentenced to life in prison after two lengthy trials.

But after potential new evidence was brought to light, which allegedly supports the allegations of abuse the brothers claimed to have been subjected to by their parents , new calls for their sentencing to be reconsidered has been made.

Erik, 53, and Lyle, 56, are serving life in prison without possibility of parole in California.

However, a letter written by Erik in December 1988, which was addressed to his cousin, was found to have detailed the alleged abuse Erik experienced by his father months before the murders took place.

The letter reads: “I’ve been trying to avoid dad. It’s still happening Andy but it’s worse for me now. I never know when it’s going to happen and its driving me crazy. Every night I stay up thinking he might come in.”

The pair has received immense support from several family members, who corroborate strange happenings within the home before the shooting, throughout their incarceration. Additionally, viewers of the controversial Netflix drama and subsequent documentary film have flocked to defend the convicted killers, and ask for a resentencing in light of this new evidence, which could see the brothers immediately released.

But it could also mean that they could be resentenced to a lesser sentence, or no change could be made.

While the appeal was supposed to take place on January 30 and 31, it has been rescheduled to March 20 and 21 because of the Los Angeles wildfires, which have been causing mayhem and tragedy in the area.

At the last court hearing, Joan VanderMolen, the sister of Kitty, told the court that no child should suffer what Erik and Lyle did ‘at the hands of their father’ and said: “I love Erik and Lyle and I want them to come home.”

Terry Baralt, a sister of Jose, said: “Thirty-five years is a long time, I think it is time for them to go home.”

According to the plea to resentence the brothers, all family members except for Milton Andersen, Kitty’s brother, supported the petition.

After the release of Ryan Murphy’s TV show, Erik hit back at the portrayal of Lyle in particular, as well as detailing several inaccuracies which he felt was being shown on screen.

To this, Murphy responded in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, and commented: “Ian [Brennan, co-creator] and I set out to do exactly what we wanted to do. And I’ll tell you my thoughts about the Menendez brothers. The Menendez brothers should be sending me flowers.”

The playwright, composer and theater director passed away on Saturday following a battle with cancer

British theater director Claire van Kampen, wife of actor Sir Mark Rylance, has died at the age of 71 following a battle with cancer.

The playwright, whose credits include creating Farinelli And The King, which Rylance starred in, passed away on Saturday (January 18) in a town in Germany.

Sadly, van Kampen’s death came on the same day as her husband’s 65th birthday.

Taking to Instagram, Juliet Rylance posted a statement on behalf of their family.

It read: “Our beloved mother, and wife, Claire Louise van Kampen, has passed peacefully this morning, Saturday the 18th of January at 11:47, in the ancient town of Kassel Germany, surrounded by her family.

“Concert Pianist, Composer, Musical Director, Theatre Director, Playwright, Mentor and Friend. And one of the funniest, and most inspiring women we have ever known. Claire has died of cancer on Mark’s 65th Birthday.

“We thank her for imbuing our lives with her magic, music, laughter, and love. Ring the bell, sound the trumpets reverie, something is done, something is beginning. One of the great wise ones has passed. Juliet & Mark Rylance.”

Her play, Farinelli And The King, was nominated for several Olivier Awards – which are presented annually by the Society of London Theatre to recognize excellence in professional theatre industry in London.

It also received nominations for the Tony Awards, which is the same, but representing Broadway in New York.

Speaking of his wife during a 2023 interview with The Guardian, he explained how van Kampen was ‘the rock of my life’.

Eddie Redmayne asked: “Could you tell me about your creative relationship with your wife, Claire?”

To which Rylance replied candidly: “Claire completely changed my life. We met at the National Theatre when she was musical director of a play I was in. She introduced me to that world of classical and modern music, and it was very much around music that we fell in love.

“We’ve always loved working together, from Phoebus Cart, our own theatre company in the 90s, to our years at the Globe, to Farinelli and the King.

“From the beginning, we were always imagining stories that we could tell together. I’ve lost count of how many projects we’ve imagined, sitting there at our kitchen table.”

He continued: “Claire came to me with two children whom I raised with her and Chris [her first husband], but we never had children of our own so, to some degree, our projects have been our children.

“They are an incredible, creative joy to us and Claire is the rock of my life. I won’t last long if she goes first.”

Tragically, van Kampen lost Nataasha, one of her two children, back in 2012 at the age of just 28 after the filmmaker suffered a brain haemorrhage.

People are only just learning why you can sometimes see the Moon during the day

People are only just learning why you can sometimes see the Moon during the day

“Keep your eyes peeled”

Here’s why it’s possible to see the Moon in the sky when it’s daytime.

Depending on how much time you spend looking up at the sky, you may’ve noticed you can sometimes see the Moon.

The Moon? In the sky in daytime?! Yes, it sounds strange, but it’s not a result of some real life Black Mirror episode or photoshop, there’s an actual scientific explanation for it.

‘Post apocalyptic war lord’ Stew Peters took to X to share an image of the Moon visible in the sky earlier this week.

The caption reads: “This full Moon is out in the middle of the day. That’s not supposed to happen.”

Well, turns out, it’s not really ‘not supposed to happen’ and we don’t all have to go and run around in a panic just yet.

Have you ever seen the moon in daytime before?

X/ @realstewpeters

Planetary geologist and NASA scientist Sarah Noble explains that many people hold the misconception you can only see the Moon at night because it’s often portrayed that way in books and movies.

“Even the weatherman uses the Sun as a symbol for day and the Moon for night,” she says in a NASA video uploaded to YouTube.

However, that’s not the case, the Moon actually spending ‘almost as much as time in the daytime sky as the night’.

And you can see it ‘day or night’ as long as it’s in the right part of the sky? But how?

We're not in an episode of Black Mirror, there's a scientific reason don't worry.

Getty Images/ Thilina Kaluthotage/NurPhoto

Basically, the reason we sometimes see the Moon in the daytime sky is all down to how close the Moon is to Earth, how it orbits around us and the phase of the Moon. Oh and the season and how clear the sky is on the day also play a role too.

Noble explains: “During a full Moon, the Moon is opposite the Sun in the sky. That’s why we can see the full face of the Moon reflecting sunlight.”

However, ‘as the Earth rotates,’ the Moon only rises ‘just as the Sun sets’ on ‘one day of the month’.

“In the days before a full Moon, if you look in the eastern sky, you can find the almost full Moon rising before the sun sets,” Noble continues. “And the days after a full Moon, you can look in the western sky and find the Moon setting after the Sun has come up.”

The Moon can appear brighter than the sky when reflecting the Sun's light.

YouTube/ SciTech Daily

If you do want to be in with the chance of spotting the Moon in the daylight sky, you’ll have to be quick about it.

Noble notes she’s made a ‘game’ of timing her daily bike ride to try and spot it, but it sets ‘about 50 minutes later each day as it marches through its phases’.

There’s a new top dog in town and one color isn’t happy

You might think that your eye color is pretty rare, but scientist claim to have defined a new eye colour which they say is the rarest one ever seen in humans.

We all know that there are four main color for eyes; there’s brown, blue, green (elite), and hazel.

But what about another that only one percent of people are born with?

Of course, green-eyed people have always been widely known as the most rearrest of all, boasting a two percent population, and then you’ve got hazel coming in next, and then blue and brown.

However, there’s a new leader ranking at the top of the color chart, and it’s not one you’ve ever seen before.

There’s a new color on the block (Elena Fedorina / Getty)

Now, scientists have designated this color as the rarest of all, and as a green-eyed person, I’m not too sure how to feel about this.

So, like a slightly different version of House of the Dragon, the Greens find themselves going up against a usurper who wants to claim the top spot for their own faction.

Except unlike on the hit HBO show, the challengers are not the Blacks, but the Greys.

Also there are no dragons, though that’s probably for the best.

Yes, scientists have now claimed that rarest eye colour of them all is no longer green, but grey.

How weird is that? But it’s true.

This was not previously possible, as grey was previously a part of House Blue, but scientists have now recalibrated their definitions and made grey a whole separate colour of its own.

If I was someone with green eyes, I’d frankly be feeling a little miffed that a change in the rules meant green eyes weren’t the rarest anymore.

But, as someone with brown eyes, I feel a bit like a peasant watching two lords feuding.

So just how common are the different eye colors?

It's grey ( vuk8691 / Getty)

It’s grey ( vuk8691 / Getty)

Well, internationally, brown is very much the most common by a long way, making up between 55 percent and 79 percent of the world population, according to VeryWell Health.

Blue comes in next, weighing in at between 8 percent and 10 percent, around the same as hazel which comes in at 10 percent globally, and can also be traced to one common ancestor.

However, blue is more common in the US, where it makes up 27 percent while hazel is 18 percent.

Finally, we have grey, the defecting color from blue.

This makes up less than 1 percent of both the US population and the global population as a whole.

Grey and blue eyes are often mixed up as both have a low amount of melanin and absorb longer wavelengths of light.

Eye colour is actually just the colour of the iris, and is an inherited trait.

A number of gene affect the colour and shade of someone’s eyes, with the combination producing a unique pigment.

SpaceX’s Starship vehicle disintegrated minutes into its flight test

Regulators are investigating reports of property damage after a SpaceX Starship vehicle exploded in the sky.

Along with government officials in Turks and Caicos, US regulators are figuring out the extent of the debris which fell after the explosion over the ocean.

The Starship mishap happened during a test mission on Thursday, January 16, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, and in a Friday statement, the FAA and Turks and Caico officials reported that there were no injuries as a result.

The SpaceX vehicle disintegrated during the seventh uncrewed test flight, which was launched out of South Texas.

Because of the falling debris, the FAA created a ‘Debris Response Area’, which delayed travel plans for many, as planes were forced to avoid the area.

On social media, pictures and videos traveled fast, which showed bright orange streaks as pieces fell from the sky.

The Turks and Caicos National Security Secretariat said in a statement that the ‘Turks and Caicos Islands Airport Authority diverted all flights in (Turks and Caicos Islands) airspace as well as grounded all flights until an all clear had been given’.

As the investigation continues, the any flights for the spacecraft and rocket will not be going forward, which isn’t unusual as authorities typically do this while carrying out the ‘mishap investigation’.

While SpaceX will lead the investigation, the FAA will issue a list of corrective actions that the company needs to fix so that the Starship can resume its tests.

Y’all keep saying this is a SpaceX Starship failure, but I saw the Transformers movie. This is clearly the Decepticons.

The Turks and Caicos government said it met ‘with relevant partners in the United Kingdom including the UK Space Agency, who are supporting the post incident response, including technical expertise on the handling of debris, health and safety risks, protocols and procedures’.

Jonathan McDowell, an astrophysicist and astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, told CNN that the vehicle may have exploded ‘over Bahamas, (with) debris passing over Turks and Caicos a couple minutes later at ~120 km altitude (~75 miles)’.

Because of the falling debris, the authorities urged anyone who finds it not to handle it, and instead to contact relevant officials.

Dr Benjamin Fernando, a postdoctoral fellow in the department of Earth and planetary sciences at Johns Hopkins, also told CNN that sonic booms caused by the falling debris could have caused minor damage to its surroundings.

He said: “This event was over one of the most populated areas in the Caribbean, with one of the largest things we’ve ever seen re-enter the atmosphere.

The debris was captured on social media (X/@ESPNMcGee)

The debris was captured on social media (X/@ESPNMcGee)

“So if (sonic boom property damage) is going to happen, it’ll be an event like this that does cause it.”

Noting that it can ‘cause damage to things like windows, roofing tiles, etc’, he said that it’s not strong enough to destroy your home.

During the flight test on Thursday, SpaceX’s San Huot and Kate Tice, who hosted a webcast of the test flight, noted that the first few minutes was going as planned, until one of its engines flamed out and then five of the six engines became offline.

Then, 10 minutes after they last checked that the flight, the Starship spacecraft was lost.

After the incident, Elon Musk took to Twitter and made it clear that he didn’t consider this more than a ‘bump in the road’.

He commented: “The booster flight was a success, the ship flight was 1/4 successful, hence cup being ~5/8 full.

“New ship forward flaps, higher thrust engines and tile adherence on ascent were tested.

“Improved heat shield performance was the only major thing that wasn’t tested, along with the “Pez” payload dispenser. Probably solved in next month’s launch.

“The 9 meter diameter version of Starship will probably fly ~10,000 times, so this is barely a bump in the road. Doesn’t change the likely date at which Mars becomes self-sufficient.”

19-year-old Olga Moskalyova was out for a walk with her stepdad in Siberia when tragedy struck

Olga Moskalyova tragically lost her life in August 2011 after she headed out for a summer walk with her stepdad, Igor Tsyganenkov.

The pair had gone out to a river in the village of Termalniy, near Petropavlovsk Kamchatskiy in the east of Siberia, Russia.

They had just gone to retrieve a fishing rod the man had left there previously. But things took a turn when a brown bear launched at them as the teen dodged it before witnessing it attack Igor.

The teenager was found dead. (Family handout)

The teenager was found dead. (Family handout)

Olga’s mum, Tatiana, then received a shocking call as the teen shouted over the phone: “Mum, the bear is eating me! Mum, it’s such agony. Mum, help!’

She thought her daughter was joking, but recalled to the Daily Mail: “But then I heard the real horror and pain in Olga’s voice, and the sounds of a bear growling and chewing.

“I could have died then and there from shock.”

Tatiana tried to get in touch with authorities for help but received another call from Olga: “Mum, the bears are back. She came back and brought her three babies.

“They’re… eating me.”

After being left for dead, she called her mum one more time to say she wasn’t ‘hurting anymore’ and asked for forgiveness ‘for everything’ before adding: “I love you so much.”

Olga was soon found dead while the mother bear feasted on Igor’s body.

Theories on just what went down that day have flown around the internet and on the Man Eaters true crime podcast, they rounded up various ‘experts’ opinions on just why the bear ‘ate’ the pair.

Firstly, it’s thought that the bear may have been ‘spooked’ by Olga and Igor and therefore attacked them out of self-defence for her cubs. This seems likely as it’s well-known how territorial and protective mother bears can be.

Others however reckon the bear had an injury, preventing her from her usual hunting practice. So, Olga and her stepdad may have been targeted because they were a convenient prey, readily available and not perceived as a threat.

While another theory is that the bear had become ‘habituated’ to human contact. Overall, brown bears are unpredictable animals and will typically only attack if they feel threatened or surprised.

After the pair were found, emergency services called hunters to kill the mother bear and her cubs.

Just half an hour after the killings, Igor’s brother, Andrei, appeared at the scene with police, finding the mother bear feasting on his body, with Olga’s dead body also on the ground.

Man tried to trade up from a penny to a house and made shocking progress after just one day

He made a staggering amount from his trades on the first day of his challenge

A YouTuber took it upon himself to trade a penny for a house, and this is how it went in just one day.

Content creator Ryan Trahan is known for pushing himself to the limits when it comes to his videos, from staying in the world’s loneliest house to being in the world’s loudest room.

But now, the American influencer has made a near impossible challenge for him to achieve, as he tried to trade a single penny up to a house.

Trading a penny for anything is hard enough (YouTube/Ryan Trahan)

Trading a penny for anything is hard enough (YouTube/Ryan Trahan)

Trahan explained that that he wanted to get ‘a house’ for one of his subscribers, managing to make his first trade, acquiring a pen.

He told locals that he was trying to go viral on YouTube. While some sighed at the prospect, others were more than happy to help, purposely giving him items worth more to help with his challenge.

But at the start, he would have to make baby steps, going from a pen to a miniature blue dinosaur, up to half a box of mints, worth $1.50.

Somehow, he managed to trade this for a pair of wired headphones, more than quadrupling his value to $8.

In an attempt to get people to get in on the challenge, he also put flyers up around town, while visiting as many garage sales as he could find.

The method worked, as he found something incredibly a valuable: a vintage polaroid camera for his earphones at a garage sale.

To top it all off, it was a working camera that still printed pictures, worth $45.

He then met two men in town, who originally had nothing to offer – until they did.

Messaging the influencer that night, while the YouTuber had tried to trade for an item in a ‘rich neighbourhood’, as he described it, it turns out that they had something that would help him progress.

He managed to secure some speakers (YouTube/Ryan Trahan)

The men bizarrely traded a pair of professional grade PA speakers for his polaroid.

Huge in size, he managed to get them home and put them up for sale online for $200, though they were $125 in reality.

In just one day, he managed to make a $124.99 profit, with six days left in the challenge.

Here’s a spoiler: He failed. To do it in a week, that is.

In a month, the content creator managed to trade up to a car, which was then traded for a home, with his subscriber and her boyfriend over the moon.

I guess anything is possible with a few million subscribers.

Man is suffering the consequences after living on a cruise ship for 23 years

Mario Salcedo has spent almost a quarter of a century sailing the world aboard cruise ships

A man who has spent over 20 years living on a cruise ship has revealed the consequences he’s now facing because of it.

Mario Salcedo is a Cuban national who made the bold move to leave his stressful job as an international finance director at a mega-successful business in the US for a life sailing the seas.

The sea-lover has since visited countries and beaches across the world, while relaxing and experiencing different cultures.

But it seems the cruise ship veteran is now paying the price for his lifestyle choice, as he has started to suffer from a unique health issue.

In the late 1990s, Mario decided that living on water was the way for him after getting sick of plane travel because of how much he had to do it for his 9-5 job.

Mario had lived in hotel rooms for longer than he lived in his Miami home, so he handed in his notice at the age of 47 and set out on the voyage of a lifetime.

Over the next few years, he embarked on more than 100 back-to-back cruises before falling in love with one special ship – Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas.

Describing the vessel as ‘revolutionary’, Mario was firmly under the spell of the ship thanks to it boasting ‘so many elements that took cruising to another dimension’.

His extraordinary experience sealed his loyalty to Royal Caribbean and he has called the firm’s array of different cruises home ever since – recently completing his 1,000th cruise with the company.

As you can imagine, he has become part of the furniture and counts the staff onboard various ships as his pals – so much so, that they gave him the nickname ‘Super Mario’, which has firmly stuck.

Luckily, he has free internet access thanks to him rising up the ranks to the top of Royal Caribbean’s loyalty tier and can run his investment management business remotely while satisfying his craving for cruising.

Mario does still have an apartment in Miami, but he now dubs this his ‘hotel’ due to the fact he spends barely any time there – and when the time does arise to abandon ship, it isn’t exactly enjoyable.

That’s because all those years at sea have seemingly caught up with his body… so although he can handle seasickness like a champ, he isn’t that great at being on dry land anymore.

Mario is literally like a fish out of water when he’s stood on the Earth’s surface, as he’s accidentally earned himself a permanent set of sea legs after acclimatising a bit too well to life on a cruise.

Discussing the physical side effect, the cruise connoisseur told Condé Nast Traveller: “I’ve lost my land legs, so when I’m swaying so much I can’t walk in a straight line.

“I’m so used to being on ships that it feels more comfortable to me than being on land.”

Mario reckons the approximately £66,980 ($82,000) a year he spends on keeping up his unusual lifestyle is worth every penny seen as though he can work from a pool deckchair with an ocean view each day.

If he’s not busily working away, you can find him scuba diving in stunning waters, throwing some shapes while ballroom dancing or unwinding with a cigar in the dedicated lounge.

Zach Strenkert went on The Jerry Springer Show as a toddler in 1996

Zach Strenkert’s 1996 appearance as a toddler on The Jerry Springer Show still gets watched by people who weren’t even born.

Back when most people didn’t even own a computer, let alone knew how to send an email, the world was a much simpler place.

Aged one at the time, I would know.

But it’s clear that TV was most the popular choice of entertainment, and over in the US, The Jerry Springer Show was the one of the most-viewed daytime talkshows of its time.

Zach went on the show as a toddler and was known as the ‘70 pound’ baby.

He suffered from a condition called Simpson-Golabi-Behmel Syndrome (SGBS), which caused him grow an inch and gain 2.5lb every couple of weeks.

What is SGBS?

The rare genetic condition causes overgrowth syndrome, which means that ‘infants are considerably larger than normal at birth and continue to grow and gain weight at an unusual rate’, according to MedlinePlus.

Those with SGBS often have distinctive facial features, such as a broad nose, large mouth, and wide-set eyes.

They can also develop skeletal abnormalities, heart defects, and an increased risk of certain tumours.

Where is Zack now?

Zach, 29, who grew up in Port Jervis, New York, said he ‘felt like a circus act’ after appearing on other shows like Oprah and Inside Edition.

“They presented me as different, which only separated me further from everyone else,” he told The Mirror. “I was known as the kid that was on TV.

“Nowadays, people ask me what it was like. They assume my mom was chasing fame or money, but that wasn’t the case.” he continued to say. “We just wanted help with geneticists, which wasn’t easy to come by with our insurance.”

Zach said his family wanted to raise awareness on what it was like to live with SGBS, adding: “We didn’t really get a lot of take-home pay after all the affairs were done. It was strictly to make sure that her kid was okay.”

On the recent release of Netflix documentary Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera Action, he admitted: “It’s just a spin on what’s already out there. It didn’t reveal anything new. It’s the same content, just packaged with bells and whistles.”

Jerry Springer – who hosted The Jerry Springer Show for 27 years – passed away at his home in Chicago in 2023.

“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word.” said family spokesperson, Jene Galvin, at the time, who also confirmed he’d died from pancreatic cancer.

“He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humour will live on.”
