Avicii’s dad reveals ‘excruciatingly painful’ intervention before late DJ’s death aged 28

Details of the intervention were revealed in the Netflix documentary Avicii – I’m Tim

Avicii’s dad has shared ‘excruciatingly painful’ details regarding an intervention which took place prior to the DJ’s tragic passing.

Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, died by suicide at the age of 28 in Muscat, Oman in 2018.

Bergling had shot to fame in 2011 thanks to the popularity of his breakthrough song ‘Levels’. However the musician was struggling behind closed doors, with a combination of poor mental health, the pressures of fame and continuous live performances leading him to retire from the touring two years prior to his death.

Avicii’s life and story is currently being revisited after Netflix released its documentary Avicii – I’m Tim at the end of last year which offers fans a glimpse into the late DJ’s life and inner thoughts.

Directed by Henrik Burman, I’m Tim is made up of a mixture of narration and previous footage of Bergling alongside interviews with his industry peers, friends and family.

In one particularly heartbreaking moment, Bergling’s father Klas revealed what happened when an intervention was organised for the DJ prior to his death.

Klas explained the decision to hold an intervention was a joint one between himself and his son’s touring manager Arash ‘Ash’ Pournouri in order to help the star navigate the pressure of being famous.

Recalling the moment Avicii realised what was happening, Klas said: “As he approached, he could see all of us there. It was excruciatingly painful to see the look in his eyes. Oh man, that was really rough.”

Klas then explained that Bergling had been ‘furious’ by the intervention at first, adding: “Everyone shared how concerned they were, and Tim… at first, he was pretty furious.

“He refused to give in. But eventually, something made him say, ‘Fine, I’ll get help.’ I said, ‘Okay, thank you.’ It finally registered. We were thrilled. It got through to him.”

After accepting support from a series of doctors and psychiatrists, Avicii would begin to make healthy changes to both his professional and personal life – which included walking away from the gruelling touring schedules.

Elsewhere in the documentary, the DJ’s close friend Jesse Waits spoke about his death, expressing regret at not being able to help his late friend.

“I know this is something that is inevitable, but if I was there I could have fixed it,” he said.

“Whatever he was going through, I’d be like, ‘F**king shut the f**k up, f**king put your shoes on, and let’s go out f**king outside for a walk.

“I’m sure everybody feels that they could have changed something, especially his family.”

Scientists discover how much exercise you need to reduce your heart aging by 20 years

The study also found the ‘sweet spot’ in time when the exercise can make a real difference

A team of researchers got participants to work up a sweat in order to figure out how much exercise it takes to reverse heart aging by as much as 20 years.

Lots of us have probably made New Years’ resolutions to work out more, but how much exercise do you need to really have an impact on your ticker – and is it ever too late to start?

If you’re currently sat on your sofa, munching your way through a bag of chips and convincing yourself that you’ve already ruined your resolution, then you’ll be glad to hear that the answer is no.

There's still time to exercise! (Getty Stock Photo)

In fact, a 2018 study published in the journal Circulation found that people in their late middle age can still take steps to dramatically increase heart health; all it takes is a bit of dedication.

In the study, researchers gathered 53 people between the ages of 45 and 64 who were all healthy but had no regular history of exercise in their daily routines, and instead lead a mostly sedentary life.

The participants were split into two groups, one of which followed a routine involving yoga, weight and balance training, while the other took on aerobic exercises which escalated in intensity over two years. Both groups trained multiple times a week.

In the aerobics group, participants had a weekly aerobic session involving a sport such as running or dancing, as well as having to perform four sets of exercises for four minutes each, followed by three minutes of active recovery. The exercises were designed at 95 percent of the participants’ maximum heart rates.

The study found heart age reversed by decades (Getty Stock Photo)

On top of these workouts, the aerobic group did moderate exercise two to three days a week.

The study concluded that both groups were doing well after the two years, but the aerobic exercise group saw an 18 percent improvement in their maximum oxygen intake during exercise, and a 25 percent improvement in the ‘plasticity’ of the walls of the heart’s left ventricle.

As a person ages the walls of the heart tend to harden, so an increased plasticity is an indicator of improved health.

Dr Benjamin Levine, lead author of the study, stressed the importance of the findings as he said: “We found what we believe to be the optimal dose of the right kind of exercise, which is four to five times a week, and the ‘sweet spot’ in time, when the heart risk from a lifetime of sedentary behaviour can be improved – which is late-middle age…

“The result was a reversal of decades of a sedentary lifestyle on the heart for most of the study participants.”

Dr. Rhonda Patrick, who has a PhD in biomedical science and shares tips about fitness on her FoundMyFitness podcast, cited this study as she said the exercise was able to ‘reverse the ageing of their hearts by as much as 20 years’.

My Sister-in-Law Threw Away Our Mom's Ashes Without Telling Us — Karma Struck Her on Christmas

My Sister-in-Law Threw Away Our Mom’s Ashes Without Telling Us — Karma Struck Her on Christmas

Everyone was set to come to my house for Christmas dinner this year, but days before, my brother and his wife suddenly showed up, asking to stay over. Although their visit was unexpected, I didn’t mind much, until my sister-in-law pushed me to the edge with her unbelievable antics!

A week before Christmas, my brother Ryan and his wife, Lindsey, arrived at our front door, bundled up and looking frazzled. Their heating system had broken down, and with the cold snap, their house had become unlivable. Despite my reservations, my husband, Nathan, and I welcomed them in, unaware of the disaster awaiting our kindness.

“Thanks for letting us crash here,” Ryan said, setting their bags down in the hallway. “We might be here over the holidays because, for the life of us, we can’t find an electrician during this time to assist us, but we’ll keep trying.”

“It’s no problem,” Nathan replied, ever the gracious host. “Make yourselves comfortable.”

At first, things were fine. But by the third day, my sister-in-law’s (SIL) behavior was starting to wear on me.

She monopolized our master bathroom, leaving damp towels and toiletries scattered everywhere, despite having full access to the guest bedroom shower. Worse, I noticed some of my sweaters and other clothes had mysteriously migrated into her suitcase, without her bothering to ask to borrow them!

I didn’t want to cause a scene, but I couldn’t help feeling irritated. Still, none of that compared to what I discovered on Christmas Eve morning!

We were gathered for breakfast when I noticed something odd. The mantel in the living room, which had been lovingly decorated with garlands and stockings, looked… empty. My heart skipped a beat.

“Has anyone seen Mom?” I asked, my voice trembling slightly. I was referring to the black marble vase holding my mother’s ashes, which we had placed there to honor her wish to “spend” Christmas with us.

This was supposed to be our first Christmas without Mom, who died after a short battle with cancer. On her deathbed, she’d made my brother and me promise to keep her ashes with us in the same room where we celebrated Christmas so she could “be with us one more time.”

After this holiday, my brother and I were supposed to scatter her ashes at her favorite place—the local river where she and our late dad had gone on their first date. But now she was just… gone.

Lindsey looked up from her plate and gave me a nonchalant shrug. “You mean her ashes? I threw them out in the backyard. That vase scared me to death every time I saw it!”

The room fell silent. Time seemed to freeze as her words sank in.

“You did what?!” I finally managed to choke out, my voice rising.

“I threw them out,” she repeated, as if she were talking about a piece of trash. “Relax, it’s just ashes. Why are you all so dramatic?”

Fury erupted inside me, and without thinking, I shot up from my chair, ready to lunge at her. Nathan and Ryan jumped between us, holding me back!

“You had no right!” I yelled, tears streaming down my face. “Mom had one wish, and you—how could you?!”

Lindsey rolled her eyes. “It’s not like she’s going to know!” she retorted.

Her indifference was a slap in the face! Shaking with rage, I stormed out to the backyard, praying it wasn’t too late.

I spent the next hour combing through the grass and the vase in the trash bin, but there wasn’t much left to salvage. My mother’s ashes, her memory, were gone!

That night, I lay awake, seething! I wanted to kick Lindsey out right then and there, but Ryan’s pleading look at dinner stopped me.

“Just wait until after Christmas,” he’d whispered at one point. “Please, we have nowhere to go at such short notice.”

I reluctantly agreed, but I wasn’t sure how I’d get through the next twenty-four hours without exploding!

Around midnight, a bloodcurdling scream shattered the silence! Nathan and I bolted upright, exchanging alarmed looks before rushing upstairs. The smell hit us before we reached the door to Lindsey and Ryan’s room—a rancid, gut-wrenching stench that made my stomach turn.

“What in the world?” my husband muttered, covering his nose. We burst into the room to find Lindsey standing on the bed, clutching her hair and shrieking hysterically!

The carpet, Lindsey’s clothes, and some of mine were soaked with murky water, and a foul-smelling mess was oozing from the en-suite bathroom!

“Oh my God!” my SIL screamed. “It’s everywhere! Do something!”

Nathan tried to keep a straight face, but I could see the corners of his mouth twitching. “Wow,” he said. “Looks like the toilet backed up.”

“Why is it only this room?” I added, unable to suppress a smirk. “The guest bathroom’s fine and ours is working perfectly!” I said a bit too gleefully.

“Must be some kind of Christmas miracle,” my husband quipped, earning a glare from my brother’s livid wife!

My brother was crouched by the bathroom door, desperately trying to mop up the mess with a towel. “Honey, maybe we should—”

“Don’t you dare ‘honey’ me!” Lindsey snapped. “Do something useful for once!”

I couldn’t resist the opportunity to twist the knife. “Maybe this is karma,” I said, leaning against the doorframe. “You know, for what you did to Mom. This must have been her revenge—she did have a wicked sense of humor, after all.”

Lindsey shot me a look that could kill! “This is your house! Your plumbing! Fix it!”

Nathan stepped in before I could retort. “We’ll call a plumber first thing in the morning,” he said calmly. “In the meantime, maybe you two should sleep in the guest room after cleaning up what you can.”

“Do you think I was right that the incident was a sign from Mom?” I whispered to my husband as Lindsey whimpered and wailed, trying to salvage what she could. “If it wasn’t, it sure feels like one.”

My SIL looked like she was about to explode, but Ryan gently guided her out of the room.

As they passed me, I caught Lindsey muttering under her breath about how it wasn’t her fault. I rolled my eyes and headed back to bed, feeling a strange sense of satisfaction.

The next morning, my brother woke up first and shared with Nathan and me how the toilet backed up that night when my SIL decided to use it. He was fast asleep and woke up when she screamed, slipping on the ooze as she made her way back to jump onto the bed!

We couldn’t help but laugh at the thought of Lindsey slipping in that stinky muck, and my brother even joined in!

Sadly for Lindsey, her bad luck continued on Christmas Day. The plumber we called couldn’t make it out until the day after Christmas, leaving us to spend the holiday with the mild stench of sewage lingering in the air.

When we sat down for Christmas dinner with the rest of the family—including cousins, aunts, uncles, and more—my SIL was unusually quiet. She picked at her food while the rest of us laughed and exchanged stories.

At one point, Ryan pulled me aside. “Thanks for not kicking us out,” he said awkwardly. “I know Lindsey can be… difficult.”

“Difficult?” I raised an eyebrow. “Ryan, she threw away Mom’s ashes!” I hissed.

“I know,” he sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Believe me, I didn’t know she was going to do that. I’m so sorry.”

For a moment, since my anger had brewed up again, I considered telling him to pack up and leave, but then I looked over at Lindsey. She was sitting stiffly at the table, her face pale and her eyes darting around nervously as if expecting another disaster to strike.

“Maybe this is punishment enough,” I said finally. Ryan nodded, relief washing over his face.

The rest of the evening passed without incident, though my SIL avoided me like the plague. When she tried to complain to the rest of the family about her ordeal, they sided with me without hesitation!

“You threw away their mother’s ashes?” my aunt gasped. “What were you thinking?!”

By the end of the night, my SIL was thoroughly humiliated, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of poetic justice.

As Nathan and I were cleaning up after everyone had left, he gave me a sly grin. “You think Mom was with us today even though Lindsey spilled her out?”

I laughed, shaking my head. “If she was, it sure feels like it and I really hope so!”

Nathan put an arm around me and kissed the top of my head. “Well, either way, Lindsey got what she deserved.”

I nodded, feeling a weight lift off my shoulders. Mom may not have been with us in the way we’d planned, but in that moment, I felt her presence more strongly than ever.

Sadly, Lindsey isn’t the only horrible SIL, in the following story, a married man finds himself accused of trying to cheat with his SIL only to have her family turn against him. After proving the truth to his wife, they take on his SIL together and finally get revenge!

Apple agrees to pay out users from $95,000,000 fund after lawsuit accused Siri of listening to private conversations

Tens of millions of iPhone users could be eligible for a payout

Apple has agreed to pay out a hefty sum to settle a lawsuit claiming its voice assistant, Siri, has been listening to users’ private conversations.

iPhone users have complained that Apple had recorded their private conversations after accidentally activating its digital assistant, Siri, and alleged the conversations were disclosed to third parties such as advertisers.

The voice assistant typically reacts when users say trigger words or phrases like ‘Hey, Siri’.

The lawsuit, which was filed five years ago, claimed the tech giant’s feature was listening to private conversations without users’ consent and possibly sharing their data.

Two plaintiffs in the lawsuit said their mentions of shopping for Air Jordan sneakers and at Olive Garden restaurants meant they suddenly saw more ads for those products, while a third said his device had advertisements for a branded surgical treatment that he thought he had discussed privately with his doctor.

The complaint alleged Apple collected conversations through ‘unintended Siri activation’.

Now, a preliminary settlement was filed on Tuesday night in Oakland, California federal court, where Apple has agreed to pay out $95,000,000 to settle the claim and provide compensation to users whose private conversations were allegedly captured.

Apple has denied any wrongdoing in its proposed settlement, stating ‘Apple has at all times denied and continues to deny any and all alleged wrongdoing and liability’.

The proposal now requires formal approval from US District Judge, Jefferey White, but if approved, it would offer US Apple users up to $20 per device that enables Siri, such as iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches.

As the class period runs from September 17, 2014, to December 31, 2024, as that’s when Siri incorporated the ‘Hey, Siri’ feature, tens of millions of members whose device allegedly used unauthorized recordings may be eligible to receive a slice of the settlement.

Apple must also confirm that it has deleted any private conversations that were captured by Siri and now has to inform users more clearly about how their voice data is used.

Lawyers for the plaintiffs may also seek some $28.5 million in fees, as well as $1.1 million for expenses from the settlement pot.

The $95 million is estimated to cover around nine hours in profit for Apple, and the company’s net income was $93.74 billion in its latest fiscal year.

The settlement comes as other huge technology organizations have agreed to fork out similar settlement costs after being accused of violating users’ privacy.

In 2023, Amazon agreed to pay $30 million with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) after it was accused of privacy violations through its Ring doorbell cameras and Alexa digital assistant.

Another lawsuit on behalf of users of Google’s Voice Assistant is also currently pending in the San Jose, California federal court, where the plaintiffs are represented by the same firms in the Apple case.

Apple is yet to provide an official comment on the settlement.

Matt LeBlanc made a significant choice to step back from his career to focus on his daughter, who battled a health condition when she was younger. She has since overcome her challenges and is now thriving as a young woman. Curious to see how she’s grown? Check out her recent photos!

Matt LeBlanc, best known for his role in “Friends,” shares a child with his ex-wife, Melissa McKnight. The couple married in May 2003 and welcomed their daughter, Marina Pearl LeBlanc, in February 2004. She was born with a delicate condition, but over time, her health has greatly improved.

Marina faced significant challenges in her early years when doctors diagnosed her with cortical dysplasia, a condition that affects the brain, bones, and motor skills. Those with this sickness often have difficulty walking and are prone to seizures.

At just 11 months old, Marina’s doctors diagnosed her and cautioned that the condition had also impacted her vocal cords, potentially affecting her ability to speak. At the same time, Matt’s marriage to British model Melissa crumbled amid rumors of infidelity. However, his main concern was his daughter’s illness.

He once shared, “My daughter was diagnosed with a problem with her head. It was a very dark period. But I got through it. Don’t they say what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger?”

Matt focused all his energy on Marina during this tough period. He first noticed something was wrong when she would fall to her left side while crawling.

Adding to the stress of the diagnosis, a nanny leaked the story to the press. “We had a nanny who sold the story about my daughter to the papers. It was a very dark period,” the father of one revealed in a January 2011 interview.

Despite the chaos in his life at the time, the television star made it his mission to prioritize his daughter, putting his career on hold. “I was so burned out after ‘Joey,’ I just didn’t want to work,” Matt explained about the “Friends” spin-off show that was axed after only two seasons.

“I wanted to not have a schedule, not be somewhere. And I was in a position where I could do that. I wanted to spend time with my daughter. She is the most important thing in my life, and spending that time with her was the best thing I have ever done,” he continued.

In fact, Marina was already riding at a young age and even participated in jumping competitions at that age. On a funny note, the actor once revealed that his daughter had requested to have Rihanna attend her birthday, and he assured her he would make it happen.

During a January 2017 interview on the now-defunct “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Matt was asked whether his daughter thinks he’s cool since he’s a celebrity.

“I don’t think she thinks I’m too cool, no,” he answered. The Hollywood star shared that Marina’s friends at school were watching “Friends,” but she wasn’t interested and didn’t care much about it. However, he did mention that she has seen the show herself and is hard to impress.

Matt, who played Joey Tribbiani on “Friends” from 1994 to 2004 alongside Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow, talked about his daughter Marina’s reaction to seeing him on the show in a February 2018 interview. The TV star shared that Marina enjoys watching reruns with him, especially when the show pops up while flipping through channels.

He said, “She loves to ask me questions about it. She’ll say: ‘Was that real? Did you really eat that? What did that taste like? Ooh, you ate that off the floor? That’s gross! You’re so funny, Dad.'” Matt also mentioned that for a while, Marina used to call his sitcom the “The Joey Tribbiani Show” before she learned its proper name.

Through his showbiz career, the actor’s daughter has had the chance to meet other public figures. While filming “Top Gear” in London, Matt, his daughter, and stepdaughter, attended a Bruce Springsteen concert at Wembley Stadium.

They later went backstage to meet Bruce and discovered Prince Harry was also there. By the end of the evening, the British royal gave both girls goodnight kisses on their cheeks, leaving them in awe. Matt recalled that this gesture alone truly impressed Marina.

The actor has always cherished the time spent with his daughter, especially when she was younger. He made it a priority to engage in activities that would keep them connected and away from screens.

Whether they were making breakfast together, going horseback riding, or hiking, the doting dad ensured they spent plenty of time outdoors.

Matt once reflected on their close relationship and stated, “Spending time with her is the best thing I’ve ever done. We have a great bond and it’s the best thing in my life.”

When Marina was a baby, Matt’s busy work schedule often kept him away from home. However, whenever he returned, he made sure to spend quality time with her. One of his cherished routines was lying on the floor beside her until she drifted off to sleep, making the most of their moments together.

Marina, now 20, was recently seen out and about with her father, Matt, in a rare public appearance. In September 2024, the father-daughter duo was spotted shopping for cars in Los Angeles. The actor kept things casual, dressed in light wash jeans, a black T-shirt paired with a navy blue and white Ferrari trucker hat, and sporty black sunglasses, showing off his white-bearded look.

Meanwhile, Marina complemented her dad’s laid-back style. She rocked red hair, light blue cargo-pocket jeans, a short-sleeved gray T-shirt, and light-colored sneakers. The two were seen browsing the selection at RPM Motors, a luxury used car dealership.

Just days earlier, on September 7, the actor was spotted alone at another car showroom. He kept his look casual, wearing a T-shirt, jeans, and a navy blue baseball cap. The outing came almost a year after the passing of his “Friends” co-star, Matthew Perry.
Matt was the first of the cast to express his condolences publicly. He reminisced about his friendship with Matthew, stating that the times they shared were truly some of his most cherished memories.

After being spotted, a source claimed that the actor’s reclusiveness has concerned the rest of his former co-stars. “Jen and all the Central Perk crew are worried about him being so withdrawn,” the insider alleged and added that his “Friends” are eager to reconnect and help him regain his spark.

On October 29, Matt was seen again in Los Angeles, smoking while standing by his car. Dressed in a wrinkled black T-shirt, dark jeans, and blue Asics sneakers with neon green accents, the actor appeared thoughtful and reserved.

Despite maintaining a low profile, his commitment to family remains a constant in his life. Tom Holland explains why he won’t walk the red carpet with Zendaya anymore

The Hollywood stars regularly have premieres to attend, but they rarely pose on the carpet together

Between the two of them, Zendaya and Tom Holland probably have a red carpet event to attend almost every other night.

The two Hollywood stars both share photos from premieres, awards shows, and other glamorous events online, but it’s not often that those photos actually show the two of them posing together in front of the paparazzi.

This lack of recent red carpet photos comes despite the fact the couple have been dating since at least 2021, after they were first cast alongside one another in the 2016 movie Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Zendaya was cast alongside Holland in his Spider-Man movies (Columbia Pictures)

Since then, Holland has appeared in numerous more Marvel movies, while Zendaya has been busy with hits like Dune: Part Two and Challengers, so it’s fair to say the lack of photos isn’t down to a lack of opportunity.

Holland has actually revealed the reason why he tends to step back at red carpet events in a new interview with Men’s Health, in which he spoke about life in the public eye.

The 28-year-old admitted that being in the spotlight does have an impact on his day-to-day life, for example by forcing him to take extra measures when going out in public.

Giving the example of going to a play, he said: “It’s booked in advance, we sort it all out, we call ahead to the theater and make sure we can get somewhere private.”

Conscious that his presence could draw attention away from the event itself, Holland admitted that he tends to avoid most non-mandatory public outings – with the exception of Zendaya’s premieres.

Holland still goes to support his partner, but chooses to avoid walking the red carpet with her.

Explaining why, he said: “Because it’s not my moment, it’s her moment, and if we go together, it’s about us.”

Though Holland is in the thick of stardom at the moment, he said he does foresee a time when he will leave Hollywood.

“When I have kids, you will not see me in movies anymore,” he said, sharing the two aspects of life he will embrace instead: “Golf and dad.”

“I will just disappear off the face of the earth,” he said.

This isn’t the first time Holland has spoken about his desire to keep his romance with Zendaya out of the spotlight, as he also told The Hollywood Reporter in 2023 that the couple are ‘incredibly protective’ of their relationship.

“We don’t think that we owe it to anyone, it’s our thing, and it has nothing to do with our careers,” he said at the time.

Weddings are supposed to be the bride’s happiest day, right? It’s supposed to be a day where everything comes together perfectly. But sometimes, the road to “happily ever after” takes a detour into chaos. For better or worse, brides often find themselves at the center of jaw-dropping drama, and these stories prove that truth can be stranger than fiction.

Each story offers a glimpse into the emotional highs and lows that can come with planning a wedding, and what happens when the unexpected throws everything off course.

Grab a cup of tea, because these real-life bridal dramas will have you gasping, cringing, and maybe even make you grateful for your own uneventful nuptials.

My Husband Turned Our Wedding Night into a Catastrophe

I never imagined my wedding night would start with hesitation.

“Scott, can we… can we talk for a bit?” I asked tentatively, exhaustion weighing heavy on me after the whirlwind of our big day.

Scott frowned, clearly frustrated.

“Talk? Now?” he questioned, his tone betraying his irritation.

“I’m just so tired,” I said softly. “I think we need to take a moment, just to breathe.”

To his credit, he nodded and masked his disappointment with a kiss on my cheek. But hours later, I woke up to something bizarre. The bed was shaking, and Scott wasn’t beside me. I blinked in the dim light, my eyes finally focusing on him kneeling beside the bed, holding a baby.

“Scott?” I gasped, utterly confused. “What’s going on? Where did the baby come from?”

He froze, his eyes darting like he was scrambling for an excuse. Finally, he whispered,

“Everly, this is Ella. She’s my orphaned niece. My stepsister, Maya, she’s gone…”

“Your stepsister?” I repeated, struggling to process. “Gone? When? How? Why didn’t I know about this?”

Scott’s gaze dropped.

“I found out about her just weeks ago. I was scared you’d leave if you knew,” he admitted.

“You kept such a big thing from me? Scott! How can we build a life together with secrets and half-truths?” I asked, my voice rising.

But the conversation didn’t go far. I was too tired to keep pressing, though unease curled in my gut as I lay awake long after. A baby? What on earth were we going to do? We had only been legally married for about twelve hours.

The next day, we returned home to Scott’s sprawling estate. Ella came with us, and suddenly, it was like a decision had been made without my consent. Days turned into weeks, and though I cared for Ella, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right.

“Scott,” I asked one evening, “if you and Maya were estranged… so estranged that I didn’t know about her before, why insist on raising her baby?”

“She’s innocent, Everly. Ella has no one else,” he said firmly, sidestepping the question.

Frustrated, I started digging for answers. One day, while Scott was at work, I found a photo on his desk. It showed him with a pregnant woman, Maya, I assumed, but they weren’t estranged.

They looked happy.

When Scott came home, I confronted him.

“Explain this,” I demanded, holding up the photo. “You said you were estranged, but this says otherwise. Doesn’t it?”

Scott sighed deeply.

“Alright. I wasn’t truthful. I stayed in touch with Maya and helped her, but I didn’t want you to know.”

“Why hide it? Why lie?” I asked, anger flaring.

“I thought if you loved Ella without the complications of her origins, we could become a family,” he confessed.

“Complications? You mean the truth?” I shot back. “Scott, we can’t build a life together like this.”

The argument only got heated from there, and I suggested that we consider adoption for Ella.

“Maybe another family can give her the stability she deserves,” I said tentatively.

“You think I married you to find Ella a mother?” he asked. “Why can’t you just be a good person, Everly?”

The tension became unbearable. Days later, I took Ella and left, seeking clarity on a quiet beach. I had grown to adore the little girl, but there was just something so strange about it all. After about fifteen minutes of us just looking at the water, a woman approached me.

“Scott’s niece, huh?” she said with a cruel laugh, looking at Ella.

“Who are you?” I asked, holding Ella protectively.

“Run for your life, girl,” she said before walking away.

I returned home later that day, determined to get answers.

“Scott, Ella isn’t your niece, is she?” I asked.

Scott froze. Then, after a long silence, he began to speak.

“She’s my daughter.”

I knew it. I had known that there was more to the story. And here it was. Betrayed, I packed my bags.

“I can’t do this, Scott,” I said. “You’ve betrayed Ella and me by starting our marriage with lies.”

I left that day, finding solace in my work. But weeks later, Scott knocked on my door with Ella. Her giggles melted the walls I’d built, and I let them in.

“Can we try again?” Scott asked. “This time with honesty.”

Despite my doubts, I nodded. I couldn’t deny the pull of family, truthful or not. And more than that, I just wanted to be back with Ella. Scott had a lot of explaining to do, but that little girl needed a mother.

And I knew I could be that for her.

Girl Mocks Poor Grandma for Cheap Old Ring She Gifts Her, Throws It Away and It Opens

When I married Dylan, it was supposed to be the happiest day of my life. As we swayed to the music during our first dance, I allowed myself to forget for a moment that my parents weren’t there to see me so happy.

But that moment didn’t last long. A hesitant cough from Mr. Scofield, the hotel manager, interrupted us.

“Please excuse me, Mrs. Henderson,” he began, looking uncomfortable. “There’s someone outside asking to see you. She says she’s your grandmother.”

My heart sank.

“I’ll go,” I said, sighing. “She’ll cause a scene if I don’t.”

Outside, there she was, leaning on her cane. Her face brightened when she saw me.

“You look so beautiful, darling. Perfect,” she said, reaching for my hand.

I stepped back.

“What are you doing here? You weren’t invited for a reason.”

“I know, Emma,” she said. “I just needed to see my granddaughter get married.”

“You need to go,” I said, crossing my arms. “If it weren’t for you, my father would still be here. He would’ve walked me down the aisle.”

My voice cracked as the tears threatened to fall.

Martha’s eyes filled with tears, but she held out a red jewelry box.

“I just wanted to give you this,” she said. “It’s all I could get you. I hope you like it.”

I opened the box and immediately sneered.

“A cheap ring? A cheap necklace? Really, Martha? Did you steal this from someone?”

“Oh, Emma…”

“Don’t. Just leave,” I snapped. “I don’t ever want to see you again.”

Martha left quietly, leaning heavily on her cane. But as I watched her disappear, memories of that awful day years ago came flooding in.

My father, Johnny, had been accused of something terrible. The lawyer, Mr. Morgan, told me that unless we paid an impossible sum, my father would go to prison. Desperate, I turned to my grandmother.

“We could sell the bakery,” I pleaded. “Please, Gran!”

“My bakery?” she asked, her eyes wide. “It’s all I have, Emma. I can’t sell it.”

“It’s for Dad!” I screamed. “Do you want him to rot in jail?”

“I’m sorry, Emma,” she said firmly. “I just can’t.”

Her refusal broke me. My father went to prison, and six months later, he died of a heart attack in his cell. I swore I would never forgive her.

Dylan’s voice brought me back to the present.

“Emma, darling, are you okay?” he asked.

“She left,” I said. “Gran came, gave me this box, and then left.”

I looked at the jewelry box still in my hand. The sight of it filled me with rage. Without thinking, I threw it hard onto the ground.

“Emma!” Dylan gasped.

The box cracked open, and out tumbled a stunning emerald ring. I knelt, stunned.

“How could she afford this?” I whispered, examining it.

A small note peeked out from the broken box. I unfolded it, my hands shaking as I read:

Dearest Emma,

I know you hate me for what I did, but your father was not a good man. He hurt people, and I couldn’t save him. I kept the bakery for you, not me. Take this ring as part of your wedding gift. A lawyer will reach out about the rest.

Love you to the moon and back, kitten.

Gran

Tears blurred my vision.

“Oh my goodness,” I gasped.

The next day, I drove to her house, promising Dylan that I would be back in time for our honeymoon flight. But when I arrived, I saw moving trucks outside. The movers told me the house had been sold weeks ago.

I knocked on her neighbor’s door.

“Judy? Where’s Gran?” I asked.

“Emma? She moved out a few weeks ago after her diagnosis. The movers are getting the new family settled in today.”

“What diagnosis?” I asked, dread creeping in.

“Skin cancer. Stage four,” she replied.

“Where did she go?” I asked.

“To a motel, the one at the edge of town. Frank’s, I think. She said she lived there for a bit when your father was born. She was feeling nostalgic.”

I sped to the rundown motel. The receptionist’s expression turned to horror when I asked to see Gran.

“She passed away last night,” she said. “Housekeeping found her this morning.”

The words hit me like a wave. I stumbled outside, my breath hitching. A scream tore from my throat as grief overwhelmed me.

Back home, I stared at the emerald ring and the letter. Martha had given me everything, even as I pushed her away. She was gone, and I’d never get the chance to make things right.

Sometimes, regret doesn’t come when it’s convenient. It comes too late.

Bride’s Mom Sees Groom Entering Bathroom with Bridesmaid in the Middle of Wedding

From the moment my daughter Eliza introduced me to Daniel, I had reservations. He was charming, yes, but something about him felt too perfect. Still, I bit my tongue for Eliza’s sake.

Today was her wedding day, and I wasn’t going to ruin it. At least, that was the plan.

I shuffled toward Daniel during the reception, clutching my late husband’s diamond cufflinks to give him. But Daniel was walking quickly toward Melissa, one of the bridesmaids.

I stopped in my tracks, curiosity piqued as I saw him lean in to whisper something to her. Then, they slipped away toward the back of the bar.

My knees ached as I tried to keep up. I followed them discreetly, my heart racing with unease. They entered the bathroom together, and I hesitated outside.

Should I leave this alone? I thought. But something pushed me to peek inside.

The sight before me confirmed my worst fears. Daniel had Melissa pressed against the sink, his arms wrapped tightly around her waist.

“Not now, darling,” Melissa whispered, her voice low and teasing. “We need patience. Go ahead with the wedding, stay with her for a week or two, and then we’ll get the payday we deserve.”

“Millions of dollars, babe,” Daniel replied, leaning in for another kiss.

I froze, horrified, watching them through the crack in the door.

I needed to warn my child. But how? This was her wedding day. Could I just destroy her happiness like this? But if I didn’t, what mother would I be?

I found Eliza practicing her vows, but before I could say anything, the wedding planner came rushing in.

“Eliza, it’s time!” she cried. “Let’s go!”

My daughter smiled at me as she rushed past.

“Go on, sit down, Mom!” she said. “Let’s get this ceremony on!”

Later, I tried to get Eliza alone, but she was swept up in the festivities, Melissa by her side, smiling as if nothing had happened.

“Mom, is everything okay?” she asked when she finally saw that I was trying to get her attention.

“It’s Daniel,” I began. “I need to talk to you privately.”

“Let’s talk later, Mom. He’s waiting for me. It’s time for the final toast, and then we’re off!” she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with joy.

I watched helplessly as she walked away with Melissa. My heart broke knowing I couldn’t protect her without proof.

The next morning, Daniel and Eliza drove me to the airport. I couldn’t stand his fake doting behavior toward her. But the moment they left me at the airport, I got into a cab and made my way back to their house.

“Honey,” I said to Eliza on the phone. “I’m not feeling well. I’m canceling my flight and coming home to you.”

“Sure, Mom,” she said. “You come over. I’m out doing some shopping for the honeymoon, but I’ll be home soon!”

When I got to her house, I found Melissa’s car parked in the driveway. Luckily, Eliza pulled in at the same time, too. We walked into the house together, and I knew that we would be walking into something.

There they were—Daniel and Melissa were kissing passionately on the couch.

Eliza’s face went pale.

“What the hell is going on here?” she shouted.

The couple sprang apart.

“We’re not doing anything!” Daniel said stupidly. “We’re discussing work.”

“I saw them in the bathroom yesterday, too,” I said. “They were… together. They want your money, honey. Daniel is going to divorce you and take the money.”

“But… what?” she gasped.

“Do you really want to believe your mother?” Daniel asked.

“Of course,” Eliza said. “She’s everything to me. And you’re stupid. And pathetic. And you won’t get anything. I changed the prenup, Daniel. You get nothing for cheating.”

And like that, my child had to put herself together after the betrayal of her best friend and her husband.

  • Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are one of Hollywood’s favorite couples, and together, they have built successful multi-million dollar careers.
  • Despite the money they have, Kunis still bought their wedding bands from Etsy, and they cost less than $200 altogether.
  • They stayed strong through Kutcher’s life-threatening health scare.
Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are one of Hollywood’s most loved couples. The two had known each other for over a decade before being romantically involved.

Kutcher and Ashton first met while filming the hit series “That 70’s Show” in 1998, which lasted till 2006. In 2005, Kutcher married Demi Moore, but they called it quits after six years and finalized their divorce in 2012.

By 2012, dating rumors of Kutcher and Kunis started to surface after the couple was seen kissing at a party, but a source clarified that they were not exclusive. The “Bad Moms” star also revealed that she and Kutcher started casually dating, but just like in their movies, “Friends with Benefits” and “No Strings Attached,” one of them caught feelings.

While on the Armchair Expert Podcast with Dax Shepard, she mentioned that she had just gone through a horrible breakup before meeting Kutcher. The actress was in a long-term relationship with actor Macaulay Culkin for eight years, which ended in 2011.

Kunis was honest about where she went wrong in her last relationship and said she wanted to spend time alone to figure out why she did what she did in her 20s. So, Kunis spent two years single before meeting her husband.

The actress said that she got jealous when Kutcher told her he was dating someone, but the feeling was mutual for the “The Ranch” star because he asked her to move in with him right after she confessed her feelings.

The couple went public about their relationship in 2012, and Kutcher confessed that the first time he told Kunis he loved her, he was listening to “You and Tequila” by Kenny and Grace Potter. Like the song, Kutcher had been drinking tequila and decided to go to Kunis’ house at 02:00 a.m. to confess his love for her.

When the “Friends with Benefits” star realized how intoxicated he was, she said, “Don’t say it if you don’t mean it,” and proceeded to ask him if he would still feel the same way the next day.

But Kutcher knew what he was doing; the following day, he woke up and said, “I still love you.” The couple got engaged in 2014, and a month later, they announced they were expecting their first child. In 2015, they secretly wed, but the couple had tied the knot way before their undercover nuptials. Then, in 2016, they welcomed their second child.

Kunis and Kutcher started their acting careers early, so they had already built substantial individual wealth when they were dating. Kunis became a recognized star after starring in “That 70’s Show”, which ran for eight years, and one of her co-stars reportedly got about $6 to $8 million per season.

Furthermore, Kunis has been the voice behind Meg on “Family Guy,” which aired in 1999, and reports speculated that the show’s voice actors earn about $175,000-$225,000 per episode, which could amount to roughly $2 million a year.

Despite being one of the most famous actresses, Kunis keeps a low profile. She is one of the few Hollywood stars with no social media accounts. The actress has also been part of many successful movies and shares assets with her husband, including their three houses. The couple owns a $2.9 million house in Laurel Canyon and a $540,000 condo in West Hollywood.

Kutcher was even declared one of the highest-paid actors on television in 2012, but he did not gain his fortune from just acting; he also made multiple investments that made him more money.

The actor co-founded his firm, A-Grade Investments. He and his partner turned their $30 million fund into a return of $250 million by investing in companies like Uber, Skype, and Airbnb. Despite the couple’s money, Kunis revealed that their wedding bands were bought from Etsy. She wanted the thinnest platinum band but found the prices from places like Tiffany & Co. to be “astronomical.”

She found the rings on Etsy for a fraction of the price; her ring cost $90, and Kutcher’s was slightly more expensive at $100. The actress does have a big and expensive engagement ring, but she hardly ever wears it. Mila Kunis just wanted her everyday band to be simple and barely visible.

Kutcher and Kunis have been married for almost nine years, but despite their busy lives, they still make time for each other. The couple was spotted on a date at a comedy club and music venue in the West Hollywood area in September 2023.

About a month later, the actors were seen holding hands on their way to dinner. They kept their outfits casual, with Kutcher wearing a red sweater, dark blue jeans, and brown shoes. Kunis wore a light blue sweater with dark gray jeans and white sneakers.

They Stayed Together despite a Life-Threatening Disease

In 2019, Kutcher revealed that he had a life-threatening health scare where he could not walk, hear, or see. It turned out Kutcher had a severe case of vasculitis, “a serious and rare autoimmune disease that attacks and inflames the blood vessels.”

This was a scary time for Kunis and their children, but Kutcher worked hard to get himself back to normal again. He confessed that being close to death helped him appreciate the important things in life, like being with his kids.

He will also not be holding back from living his life; Kutcher has made smart financial decisions, and that is because he plans to live and not work forever.

In this time of uncertainty, his wife was constantly by his side. During their interview on “The Check Up,” Dr. David Agus said it was beautiful how Kunis “just curled up” next to him and never left his side. “She’s the best,” responded the actor.

Inside Their Life on a Farm

Kunis and Kutcher had the bright idea to build a sustainable modern farmhouse on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Their six-acre property is equipped with a guesthouse/entertainment barn and a free-standing barbecue pavilion. Kunis explained that they wanted their property to not look like an estate but a home.

The couple also chose to have their main house look like an old lived-in barn. “We wanted the house to look like an old barn, something that had been here for decades, that was then converted into a house. But it also had to feel modern and relevant,” Kutcher added.

The couple’s home is rich in fruit and vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, squash, and lettuce. They also have an abundance of dill and lemongrass, not to forget their ripe pomegranate tree.

When Ashton Kutcher suggested living and working on a farm, Kunis was skeptical, but when COVID-19 hit, they realized how privileged they were to have a self-sustaining house. Beyond their poolside, you will find a bunch of apple trees and a barbecue area with a pizza oven that Kutcher gifted his wife for their anniversary.

The house is fully solar-powered and has a lot of water to keep its crops alive. Outside are large timber beams reclaimed from an old Wonder Bread factory.

The Kutcher family all work together to keep their fruit and vegetables growing. Kunis said her parents often make fun of her and tell her that growing a tomato on their farm probably costs more than buying it from the store.

But the mother of two does not care because she loves teaching her children the importance of growing food and what it takes to grow something as simple as a tomato.

Kia recalls nearly 23,000 cars after discovery that one single worker may have forgotten to bolt down seats

The recall is regarding the car manufacturer’s EV9 electric SUVs

Kia have been forced to recall over 22,000 of its vehicles after what can arguably be called one hell of a blunder.

The car manufacturer’s EV9 models were released in the US in October 2023, and are set to hit the UK market this month.

Now, it’s not uncommon for cars to be recalled – something Tesla, for example, knows first hand with its infamous Cybertruck being recalled seven times.

And Kia has now followed suit.

The South Korean car manufacturer has been forced to recall its EV9s – Kia’s first three-row electric SUV – following safety issues.

The recall relates to 22,883 of the cars that were built between September 25, 2023, and October 15, 2024, at Kia’s Gwangmyeong, South Korea, plant.

The issue was announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on December 20, and seem to place blame on a single worker.

As per the NHTSA, the issue is with the EV9s seats, with some reportedly being ‘without mounting bolts’ meaning it doesn’t properly restrain the passenger and increases their risk of injury.

In a further description of the defect, documentation reads: “Due to an error by a plant assembly worker, the second and/or third row seat mounting bolts may be missing.”

EV9 owners will be notified about the apparent fault by in a letter that’ll be mailed by January 24, 2025.

If you’re one of the car owners affected, the NHTSA says that ‘dealers will inspect and install mounting bolts as necessary free of charge’.

Looking at data from last year, it’ll probably come as no surprise that Tesla was the car manufacturer recalled the most cars in 2024.

According to Motor1, the Elon Musk-headed company recalled a whopping 5,135,697 of its vehicles last year. This figure came from a total of 15 recalls.

While Tesla recalled the most cars, it didn’t make the most recalls in total. Instead, American automaker Stellantis reportedly made 72.

Ford followed closely with 63 recalls over the course of 2024.

Meanwhile, Kia recalled over a million of its cars; its largest being 462,869 Telluride SUVs.

It was found that a knob for the front power seat motor could get stuck, meaning that the motor could overheat and cause the vehicle to catch fire.

In total, the manufacturer made 19 recalls last year, Motor1 reports. It’s unclear if the December 20 recall is included in that figure.

Single dad Daniel’s quiet morning with his sick little son took an unexpected turn when he helped an elderly woman on the bus. The lady was a fortune teller and slipped a cryptic note into his hand. Daniel accepted it, unaware that her parting words would soon haunt him in ways he never imagined.

It was one of those gray mornings in California, the kind that makes you feel like the universe hit snooze and forgot to wake up. My one-year-old son, Jamie, was strapped in his stroller, his tiny breaths fogging the clear plastic cover. He’d been burning up with a fever all night, and every little whimper had cut through me like glass.

I shoved a pacifier into his hand and double-checked the diaper bag slung over my shoulder. Formula? Check. Spare clothes? Check. An exhausted father running on caffeine and prayer? Also, check.

Parenting solo wasn’t the life I’d envisioned. My wife Paulina had been my everything, and when she passed during childbirth, it felt like the air had been sucked out of my world. But Jamie was my anchor now, and every step I took was for him.

“Almost there, buddy,” I murmured, adjusting his blanket. “We’ll get you feeling better soon, I promise.”

I touched his forehead gently, remembering the sleepless night before. “Your mama would know exactly what to do right now,” I whispered, my voice catching.

The bus screeched to a halt, and I hauled the stroller up with one hand, gripping the railing for balance.

“Let’s go, man! People got places to be!” the driver snapped.

“My son’s sick,” I shot back, struggling with the stroller. “Just give me a second.”

“Whatever, just hurry it up.”

I bit back a stronger reply, settling Jamie into the corner. The bus wasn’t crowded… just a few commuters with headphones or half-open newspapers.

At the next stop, she got on.

Likely in her 70s, the lady looked out of place. Layers of flowing skirts draped around her fragile body, a scarf tied tightly over her head, and silver bangles jingled on her wrists. Her dark, kohl-lined eyes darted around nervously as she rummaged through an old leather purse.

“I don’t have enough for the fare,” she told the driver, her voice low and tinged with an accent I couldn’t place.

He scowled. “LADY, I’M NOT RUNNING A CHARITY. IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE MONEY, YOU CAN WALK. Pay or get off.”

She hesitated, looking visibly flustered. “Please. My name is Miss Moonshadow. I’ll read your fortune for free. Just let me ride.” Her hands trembled as she held them out. “Please, I… I need to get somewhere urgently.”

The driver rolled his eyes. “I don’t want any of that mumbo jumbo. Pay or walk.”

Her face flushed, and she looked over her shoulder, her gaze catching mine for just a second before darting away. There was fear there, raw and real. And something else I couldn’t quite place.

“Hey! If you can’t pay, get off the bus already!” the driver barked, his voice sharp enough to make her flinch.

That was enough. And I stood up. “I’ve got it,” I said, digging into my pocket. “Let her take the ride.”

The driver muttered something under his breath as I handed over a couple of bills.

The woman turned to me, her eyes meeting mine with a weight I couldn’t quite place. “Thank you,” she said softly. “You didn’t have to. You have enough burden already, I can see it in your eyes.”

“It’s nothing,” I said, brushing it off. “We all need help sometimes.”

Miss Moonshadow took a seat near the back, but I could feel her gaze following me. Jamie stirred in his stroller, and I leaned down to soothe him, my hand brushing his fever-warmed cheek.

Shhh, it’s okay, little man,” I whispered. “Daddy’s got you.”

When my stop came, I maneuvered Jamie’s stroller toward the door. As I passed her, Miss Moonshadow reached out, her bangle-covered hand gripping my arm with startling firmness.

“Wait, here,” she said, pressing a small folded note into my palm.

“What’s this?” I asked, confused.

Her voice dropped to a whisper. “YOU’LL NEED IT. Trust me. Sometimes, the truth hurts before it heals.”

The driver barked for me to hurry up, and I nodded stiffly, stepping off the bus. The paper felt strangely heavy in my pocket, but I ignored it, although I was puzzled.

The pediatrician’s waiting room was a blend of crying babies and exhausted parents when I arrived. I kept my eyes on Jamie, who had fallen asleep again in his stroller, his feverish little face looked smaller than usual.

“Mr. Daniel?” the nurse called.

“That’s us,” I said, standing. “Come on, buddy. Let’s get you checked out.”

The nurse stepped out and announced that Jamie was next, adding that the doctor would see him in five minutes. I sank into a chair in the waiting room, my exhaustion catching up to me. Almost without thinking, my hand drifted to the note in my pocket. I pulled it out, smoothing the creases before unfolding it.

The words hit me like a slap:

“HE’S NOT YOUR SON.”

I blinked, reading it again. Then again. My pulse roared in my ears, and I stuffed the note back into my pocket like it might burn me.

“Mr. Daniel?” the nurse called again. “The doctor’s ready.”

Jamie stirred, his little fists opening and closing. I reached out, brushing his cheek with my thumb. He was so real and so undeniably mine. The note was a lie. It had to be.

“He’s got your eyes,” the nurse kindly said as she led us to the exam room.

I forced a smile, but the words felt like daggers. Still, the note’s message clung to me like smoke, filling every corner of my mind with doubt.

The cryptic message haunted me for days. I kept telling myself it was nonsense and didn’t mean anything. But every time Jamie giggled or looked up at me with Paulina’s eyes, the doubt crept back in.

Then, one night, I caved. I ordered a DNA test online, the guilt swirling in my gut even as I clicked “confirm purchase.”

“What am I doing?” I whispered to myself, staring at the confirmation email. “This is crazy. This is absolutely —”

Jamie’s cry interrupted my thoughts. I found him standing in his crib, his arms raised.

“Da-da,” he whimpered, reaching for me.

I scooped him up, holding him close. “I’m here, buddy. I’m here.”

More than anything, I wished the DNA results would prove what I already felt in my heart — that Jamie was mine, that he belonged to me as much as I belonged to him.

I took the test, and the results came a week later. The envelope sat on the kitchen counter, unopened. Jamie babbled from his high chair, smearing pureed carrots across his tray.

“Alright,” I muttered to myself, ripping the envelope open.

The first thing I saw was the word “inconclusive.” Then, I found the part that mattered.

Jamie WASN’T mine.

I sank to the floor, the paper crumpling in my fist. “No,” I whispered. “No, no, no…”

“Da-da!” Jamie called out cheerfully, oblivious to my world crumbling.

I drove to Paulina’s mom’s house that evening, gripping the DNA results like they might dissolve if I let go. She answered the door with a warm smile, but it vanished when she saw my face.

“What’s wrong?” she asked, stepping aside to let me in.

I didn’t bother with pleasantries. I dropped the paper onto the coffee table. “Did you know?”

Her eyes flicked to the document, then back to me. “Daniel, I —”

“DID YOU KNOW, JOYCE?” I snapped.

Tears welled up in her eyes, and she sank into the couch. “She told me,” she whispered.

The words felt like a punch to the stomach. I stumbled backward, gripping the wall for support.

“My daughter… she made a huge mistake,” she continued. “One night. It was a stupid night at a work party. She wasn’t sure, Daniel. She wasn’t sure if the baby was yours. She was so scared. She begged me not to tell you.”

“So you BOTH lied to me?” I exploded. “Every day, every moment… it was all a LIE?”

“Daniel, please —”

“I held her hand when she died!” My voice broke. “I watched her slip away, promising I’d take care of our baby. OUR baby! And you knew? You knew all along?”

“She wanted to tell you,” Joyce sobbed. “The night before… before everything happened. She said she couldn’t bear it anymore. But then —”

“Then she died,” I finished, my voice hollow. “And you still said nothing.”

“She loved you,” Joyce added, tears streaming down her face. “She loved you so much, Daniel. She was scared, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t love you.”

“Love?” I laughed bitterly. “Love isn’t lies. Love isn’t —” I choked on the words. “Every time you looked at Jamie, every time you held him… you knew.”

“He’s still your son,” she whispered. “And you’re the only father he’s ever known.”

“I can’t…” I shook my head. “I can’t even look at you right now.”

I left without saying another word, her sobs following me out the door.

That night, I sat by Jamie’s crib, watching him sleep. His chest rose and fell in rhythm, and his tiny hand curled around his favorite blanket. The moon cast shadows through the window, and I remembered all the nights I’d spent here, singing lullabies, wiping tears, changing diapers, and fighting fevers.

“Who am I to you?” I whispered. “Am I just some stranger who…”

“Da-da!” Jamie stirred in his sleep, his little face scrunching up before relaxing again. I reached down, touching his hand, and his fingers automatically wrapped around mine.

I thought about Paulina — her laugh, smile, and how she used to hum when she cooked. The betrayal cut deep, but so did the memory of her last moments and the way she’d looked at me with such trust and love.

“Your mama made mistakes,” I whispered to Jamie. “Big ones. And right now, I don’t know how to forgive her.”

Jamie sighed in his sleep, still holding my finger.

“But you,” I continued, tears falling freely now, “you’re innocent in all this. You didn’t ask for any of it. And this past year…” My voice caught. “Every diaper I’ve changed, every fever I’ve fought, every smile, every tear, and every moment… they’re real. They’re OURS.”

The anger and betrayal still simmered, but they couldn’t touch the love I felt when I looked at him. This little boy had become my whole world and given me purpose when I thought I had none left.

“Hey, buddy,” I whispered, brushing a curl from his forehead. “You’re stuck with me, okay? No matter what. Because being a father… it’s not about blood. It’s about every sleepless night, every worried moment, and every celebration. It’s about choice. And I choose you. I’ll always choose you.”

This little miracle wasn’t my son by blood, but that didn’t matter. He was mine in every way that counted and in all the ways that truly mattered. And that was enough, more than enough.

As I watched my son sleep, I realized that sometimes the greatest truths come from the deepest lies, and the strongest bonds are the ones we choose to forge, not the ones we’re born with.

“Sweet dreams, my baby boy,” I whispered, and for the first time since reading that note, the word ‘son’ felt more true than ever before.
