The series has been branded a ‘better alternative’ to Game of Thrones…

Netflix users are flocking to social media in awe of a TV series which has a whole whopping seven seasons.

If you’re over all the rom-coms you were forced to sit through by your partner over the Valentine’s Day weekend, fear not, because Netflix has a post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama for you to sink your teeth into.

Loosely based on the young adult novel series by Kass Morgan, the drama was developed by Jason Rothenberg and first premiered on March 19 on The CW.

Spanning seven seasons and a whopping – and fitting – 100 episodes, it begins ninety-seven years after a nuclear apocalypse wipes out most of human life on Earth, with people forced to live in a space station – dubbed Ark – orbiting the planet.

When the life support systems on board the space station begin to fail, a group of people are sent back to Earth to figure out whether it can ever be habitable again.

The series – titled The 100 – stars the likes of Eliza Taylor (Quantum Leap), Thomas McDonell, (Prom) Bob Morley (Love Me), Marie Avgeropoulos (Tracers) and Devon Bostick (Diary of a Wimpy Kid).

The 100 has achieved an impressive Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer of 93 per cent and popcornmeter of 67 per cent and that love is certainly reflected by viewers taking to social media platforms to share their thoughts too.

A social media user took to LADbible Facebook page Netflix Bangers to ask: “What series on Netflix was so good it made you watch until the very next morning.”

One user commented: “The 100. Its pretty badass.”

“I agree! I watched it twice,” another added.

A Twitter user wrote: “To everyone tryna do a GoT rewatch, I have a better alternative: The 100 is back in 3 weeks and it’s all on Netflix. If for no other reason (and there are many, often so ridiculous, reasons), it’s worth watching for the reveal in the last 5 minutes of the last episode.”

“Enjoyed this TV series when it released. Good or bad, but the ideas were just insane. What happens 100s of years after earth was destroyed. It’s a world it takes us into,” a second wrote.

A third commented: “THE 100. This series quickly proved it would rarely play things safe, delivering a ton of gasp-worthy, incredibly dark, exciting, and dramatic moments centered on a group of strong characters frequently presented with harrowing choices and no morally clean options. #The100.”

Jake Lloyd famously played a young Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace

Star Wars’ Jake Lloyd has issued an update on his life in a rare interview.

Lloyd first made a name for himself as a child actor when he was cast in 1997 at the age of eight by George Lucas to play a young Anakin Skywalker in 1999’s Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.

However, fame was not all it cracked up to be for Lloyd, who’d previously starred in Jingle All The Way with Arnold Schwarzneggar, as he ended up on the receiving end of a lot of ridicule.

The now 35-year-old told Blackbook in 2012: “Other children were really mean to me. They would make the sound of the lightsaber every time they saw me. It was totally mad. My entire school life was really a living hell.”

As well as this, he also had to do ’60 interviews a day’, adding: “I’ve learned to hate it when the cameras are pointed at me.”

This led him to leave the entertainment business altogether, with his final film being Madison in 2001.

Since then, his life certainly hasn’t been easy as Lloyd was arrested in South Carolina for reckless driving, driving without a license and resisting arrest in June 2015.

He was imprisoned until April 2016, before being moved to a psychiatric facility, and last year, his mother, Lisa Lloyd gave a rare insight into her son’s life, revealing he’d been diagnosed with schizophrenia in 2008, but was doing ‘much better’ than she expected.

Now, Lloyd himself has spoken out for the first time in years to share how his life has been going.

The former actor spoke to writer Clayton Sandell for an interview on his blog on Substack, and when asked how he was doing, he replied: “Pretty good, considering these 20 years of time that have come to an end.

“I can now accept taking on continued treatment, and therapy, and my meds. Everyone’s been very supportive.”

Lloyd’s mother later clarified to Sandell that it hasn’t been 20 years since his official diagnosis, PEOPLE reports.

In his last conversation with Lisa a few weeks prior, Sandell says that Lloyd had completed an 18-month stay at an inpatient mental health facility in Southern California, and as 2025 came around, he is now at a new rehabilitation centre where he’s receiving treatment but is more or less ‘free to come and go as he pleases’.

His mother also said that Lloyd is doing well having seemingly come to terms with his diagnosis, which, according to Sandell, is called ‘anosognosia’, a neurological condition that National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) says can make someone have a ‘lack of awareness’ about their condition.

Looking back on the time he describes as ‘rock bottom’, Lloyd said it needed to happen so he could ‘honestly take part in treatment, honestly take your meds, and honestly live with your diagnosis’.

“I don’t have the time for feeling volatile,” Lloyd says, adding that his medication acts ‘very much’ like ‘a cushion’.

And despite the negative reception he’d previously received, he is still a Star Wars fan.

He continued to say that the interactions he’s had with Star Wars fans at conventions is ‘immediately therapeutic’.

“Right now, it’s still therapeutic. It’s helpful for people and healthy. It isn’t something I’d shy away from.” he said, adding that he’s ‘very appreciative’.

The owners had a number of Breaking Bad fans show up over the years

If you are looking – or even able – to afford your first home, then Walter White’s house from Breaking Bad would be a sweet choice.

The house in Albuquerque, which served as Walter White’s (Bryan Cranston) abode in the TV series, went up for $4 million.

However, the property looks completely different now to how fans would have remembered it; firstly, there’s no pizza on the roof and secondly, the owners have put fences up and blockades out the front – and that’s for a good reason.

Before it became known as the Breaking Bad house, the building was Joanne Qunitana’s childhood home with her parents, Fran and Louis Padilla, having bought it back in 1973.

But one interaction changed everything for her family back in 2006, as Quintana explained to KOB 4: “My mother never ever answers the door, and she did.

“They introduced themselves and handed her a card and said, ‘We would like to use your house for a pilot.’ And she’s like, ‘You want to buy a bridge in Brooklyn? What are you talking about?’”

Just two weeks later, once they’d confirmed the project was legit, they opened their door to filming.

“We were, like anybody, it’s a once in a lifetime thing. You got to meet the actors, the actresses, you got to see how they set up the equipment and what it all takes,” she added.

The house only served as the exterior, while the inside shots were filmed on a proper set, but it offered Quintana and her family a window into Hollywood ‘magic’.

She recalled how her mom used to offer the crew cookies, adding: “Aaron Paul had to grunt and get angry to get into his character of Jesse. What was funny was Bryan Cranston could not eat not one cookie.

“Because he had cancer in the show, so he was losing weight. So he would pass, but everybody, all the directors, all the writers would eat the cookies.

“The last day of shooting, he takes a picture holding my mom’s biscotti because he finally got to eat her cookies.”

However, the magic soon wore off as Breaking Bad fans began to show up outside the house to take pictures, or attempt to throw a pizza up there themselves – which even garnered the attention of creator Vince Gilligan, who didn’t find it humorous at all.

“Let me tell you, there is nothing funny or original or cool about throwing pizzas on this lady’s roof. It is just not funny. It’s been done before. You’re not the first.” he said (via The Independent).

However, things became scary when a package addressed to Walter White was delivered to their door, which led them to install a fence and security cameras.

“My brothers said, that’s it, we’re done, fence is going up. That’s too close for comfort, the front door.” Quintana said.

Now, with 300 cars showing up at their home every day, according to Quintana, her family have decided to place the home on the market – which Zillow values at under $350,000, PEOPLE reports.

She added: “This was our family home from 1973, almost 52 years. So we’re going to walk away with just our memories. It’s time to move on. We’re done.

“There’s no reason to fight anymore.”

People cannot believe how old Keira Knightley was in the first Pirates of the Caribbean film.

People cannot believe how old Keira Knightley was in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

Knightley, 39, is an award-winning actress who has starred in movies such as Pride & PrejudiceAtonement, and Anna Karenina.

From an early age, she always knew she wanted to be an actress and by the age of six, she had an agent and was already appearing in small parts in TV shows and films.

She landed the role of Sabé in Star Wars: Episode I—The Phantom Menace and became a breakout star with her part as Jules in Bend It Like Beckham.

The role that truly catapulted Knightley to stardom was as Elizabeth Swann in the first Pirates of the Caribbean film.

While fans know this was early in the star’s career, many have been left shocked to learn how old she was when filming for the blockbuster hit.

People have been reacting to her age in the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, saying it’s left them ‘shaken to the core.’

One person writes: “Wtf, I never knew.”

Another adds: “She was WHAT.”

“Geez, I didn’t realize I was the same age as her,” pens a third. “When I watched the movie I thought she was older than me.”

Somebody else comments: “This must be a LIE.”

Although Knightley’s role in Pirates of the Caribbean made her a household name, she’s since shared that this part of her career was ‘traumatic.’

In an interview with Variety, the actress revealed that she had undergone therapy to help her handle the ‘level of scrutiny and that level of fame’ she was facing.

She explained: “It was an age where you are becoming, you haven’t become, and you need to make mistakes. It’s a very precarious age, particularly for women. You’re in some ways still a child. It was traumatic, but it set up the rest of my career.”

Five years after filming the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Knightley experienced a ‘mental breakdown’ due to being shadowed by the paparazzi.

“The value of photographs of any famous young women at the time went up if they were of a very negative nature,” she recalled to The Telegraph.

“So if you weren’t already having a mental breakdown, they were trying to push you into doing things that kept your value as high as those who were.”

Knightley ended up having a break from acting and when she returned, she decided she ‘didn’t want to do big-budget films anymore, because the fame that came with them I just couldn’t handle.’

In an interview with The Guardian, the actress described herself as being ‘pretty neurotic’ until she experienced an epiphany at 25. At this point, she considered she may have taken everything, including any criticism, too seriously.

However, she still is pretty adamant she won’t join another blockbuster franchise – Knightley joined the Pirates of the Caribbean series at 17 going on 18 and it was a period she found ‘very hard.’

“There are people who can do it and deal with it brilliantly, and in the scheme of things I should absolutely have been able to deal with it all better than I did,” she mused.

“But I failed. And it’s just a sort of personality thing. Even if I did another one now, I don’t know that I’d be confident I could deal with it any better, really.”

A Netflix show has been praised by fans, who say it is the ‘best series they’ve ever seen’ and they can’t stop rewatching it.

The series has been highly rated by fans, many of whom have continued to rewatch all five seasons of it.

Viewers were hooked from the very first episode, with one lover of the series sharing: “The best show in the last years: action, realism, drama, trust and betrayal, love and slow burn…it has everything one needs to stay glued. The performance of the main cast is superb!”

Another writes: “One of the best series I have ever seen. Very powerful show. I loved it. The acting was excellent. I recommend this series to everyone.”

“My friend suggested this show and I believe it’s worth it. After I started to watch it, getting more and more curious to know what’s next. It’s addictive,” a third user responds.

A fourth adds: “Love the show – have been watching since Season 1 and have never been disappointed – amazing actor.”

“It’s my favorite TV show. Devious, diabolical, and intelligent characters. Unpredictable. Enough twists, turns, and subplots to keep you glued,” a fifth offers.

Director Joshua John Miller created the hit show alongside his partner writer M.A. Fortin.

The series is an American crime drama based on the Spanish-language telenovela, La Reina del Sur, which is also based on a novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte.

Brazilian actress Alice Braga, who is known for her roles in Dark Matter and I Am Legend plays the lead in the series, and she stars alongside Peter Gadiot and Mexican actress Veronica Falcón.

The USA Network original has a score of 8/10 on IMDb and 68% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The synopsis for the show reads: “Teresa flees Mexico after her drug-runner boyfriend is murdered. Settling in Dallas she looks to become the country’s reigning drug smuggler and to avenge her lover’s murder.`’

The novel ‘La Reina del Sur,’ which inspired the series, takes inspiration from a real-life female drug lord, Marllory Chacón, whose nickname given by the Guatemalan press lent its title to the hit show.

She surrendered to US authorities in 2014.

The first season premiered in 2016, but even now new fans are discovering the show, and have been left bingeing all five seasons.

The series, whose ratings exceeded expectations in its first season last year, made a strong return for season 2 with 2.11 million total viewers.

Lead actress Braga spoke with Forbes about the importance of the work: “Having Latinos in front of the camera is important, because…when they’re watching the show, they can see themselves in it.”

She continued: “There’s such a huge Latino community, but if we don’t have Latinos in the director’s chair, if we don’t have Latinos in the writer’s room, in the decision-making rooms, meaning executive producers, you also don’t get certain stories told from that point of view.”

Despite Queen Of The South being popular with fans, the show finished with its fifth season.

The cancellation came due to USA Network’s decision to move away from originals.

However, the series is still available to watch on Netflix.

Netflix Fans Obsessed With ‘Unpredictable’ New Show Full Of Insane Twists

Netflix Fans Obsessed With ‘Unpredictable’ New Show Full Of Insane Twists

Netflix fans are obsessing over an ‘unpredictable’ new show called No Good Deed. Find out more information here…

An ‘unpredictable’ new show with insane twists has Netflix viewers raving.

The new drop brings a sharp, darkly comedic twist to the housing market, blending real estate drama with a binge-worthy whodunnit.

One fan pens: “I’ve always had so much space in my heart for Lisa Kudrow, but oh my goodness she’s ASTOUNDING. The first Netflix show I’ve binged in one session in forever because it’s just so darkly funny and unpredictable.”

Created by Liz Feldman (Dead to Me), this eight-episode series stars Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano as a financially strapped couple navigating the chaotic process of selling their Los Feliz home.

Packed with twists, satire, and poignant family drama, No Good Deed is a perfect watch for fans of Knives Out and other witty ensemble mysteries.

The series has been widely compared to Knives Out for its sharp humor and intricate plot, though its tone also recalls Feldman’s previous hit, Dead to Me.

Early reactions from critics and fans alike highlight its compelling characters and engaging pace.

The episodes are short but stuffed with plot twists, making it almost impossible not to let the next one roll.

Critics praise the performances of Kudrow and Romano, who carry the series through its occasional tonal inconsistencies.

Lydia (Kudrow) and Paul (Romano) are an empty-nester couple drowning in debt after a recent family tragedy.

Lydia, a former concert pianist, struggles with a psychosomatic block that prevents her from playing, while Paul, a contractor, hopes selling their 1920s villa will fund their fresh start on a ranch.

Their plans are complicated when a figure from their past (Denis Leary) resurfaces, bringing dark secrets tied to their home.

The potential buyers add more chaos to the mix.

Sarah (Poppy Liu) and Leslie (Abbi Jacobson) are a married couple mid-IVF journey, whose obsession with the house leads them to investigate its murky past. Dennis (O-T Fagbenle) and Carla (Teyonah Parris) are newlyweds hiding secrets, alongside Dennis’s pushy mother (Anna Maria Horsford).

Lastly, neighbors JD (Luke Wilson) and Margo (Linda Cardellini), a soap star and his glamorous, scheming wife, bring over-the-top hilarity as they circle the property.

Filmed in Los Angeles, No Good Deed is as much a commentary on modern real estate as it is a mystery.

While it skips over weightier issues like the housing crisis, it does delve into how homes become symbols of memory and loss. Lydia and Paul’s desperation to sell is driven by financial woes and their desire to escape a painful past, but the secrets tied to the property complicate the sale.

Netflix keeps these revelations tightly under wraps, but flashbacks throughout the series build suspense.

Kudrow and Romano, both sitcom legends, deftly navigate the blend of slapstick humor and emotional depth, while the supporting cast brings plenty of charm and chaos.

All eight episodes of No Good Deed are now streaming on Netflix.

With its twists, sharp satire, and stellar performances, this series is an engaging addition to the dark comedy genre.

‘Hooked’ Netflix Viewers Are Bingeing ‘Perfect’ New Disaster Series

‘Hooked’ Netflix Viewers Are Bingeing ‘Perfect’ New Disaster Series

Netflix’s new disaster mini-series La Palma is captivating audiences with its gripping depiction of a volcanic eruption.

Netflix’s new disaster mini-series is captivating audiences with its gripping depiction of a volcanic eruption and its potential global consequences.

From zombie outbreaks to asteroid collisions, the disaster genre has long captured our imaginations.

A new series joins this thrilling tradition with a unique premise: a volcanic explosion on the Canary Islands triggers a series of events that could reshape the world.

Already charting in Netflix’s Top 10 in the UK, the series has viewers riveted, with one writing: “The most nerve-wracking four episodes I’ve ever binged. Incredible!”

A second adds: “An ecological nightmare brought to life with stunning visuals and raw emotion.”

“I didn’t expect to be this hooked. The stakes feel so real,” agrees a third.

A fourth pens: “A perfect mix of science and suspense. Netflix really outdid itself this time.”

While a fifth writes: “It feels like a warning disguised as entertainment.”

Created by Martin Sundland (The Quake), Lars Gudmestad (Headhunters), and Harald Rosenløw Eeg (The Wave), La Palma was directed by Kasper Barfoed (The Nurse).

The series, co-written by Gudmestad and Rosenløw Eeg, stars Thea Sofie Loch Næss, Anders Baasmo Christiansen, and Ingrid Bolsø Berdal.

The plot follows a family on a holiday to La Palma, where their idyllic Christmas is interrupted by ominous volcanic activity.

As a young scientist uncovers signs of an impending eruption at Cumbre Vieja volcano, the family finds themselves in a fight for survival against ash, gas, and lava.

But the stakes go far beyond the island, as the eruption threatens to displace a massive chunk of land into the ocean, triggering a tsunami with the potential to devastate coastlines across the Atlantic.

What sets La Palma apart is its grounding in real-world science.

The series is based on a 2001 hypothesis by Steven N. Ward and Simon Day, which speculated that a volcanic collapse at Cumbre Vieja could lead to a ‘mega-tsunami.’

However, more recent studies, including one by the United States Geological Survey in 2021, cast doubt on this scenario, suggesting that such collapses occur incrementally rather than in a single catastrophic event.

Interestingly, Cumbre Vieja last erupted in 2021, and while destructive, it did not cause the dramatic chain reaction depicted in the series.

Disney Slammed For Cutting Transgender Storyline From New Animated Series

Disney Slammed For Cutting Transgender Storyline From New Animated Series

Disney has decided to remove a transgender storyline from its upcoming animated series 'Win or Lose' prior to the show's release.

Disney has decided to remove a transgender storyline from its upcoming animated series prior to the show’s release.

The series, produced by Disney-owned Pixar, follows the journey of a co-ed middle school softball team, the Pickles, as they prepare for their championship game.

Each of the series’ eight episodes, debuting on Disney+ on February 19, will focus on a different member of the team.

While the character originally involved in the gender identity storyline will remain part of the show, the plot addressing this topic has been removed, according to a source familiar with the production.

This change was reportedly made months ago, despite the character’s dialogue already having been recorded.

In a statement addressing the decision, Disney said, per CNN: “When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline.”

The decision has sparked speculation about Disney’s motives, especially in the context of the recent reelection of former President Donald Trump.

Known for his vocal opposition to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, Trump’s return to the political spotlight has coincided with broader shifts among corporations reevaluating their DEI strategies.

Asked whether the removal of the storyline might indicate Disney’s effort to distance itself from diversity initiatives, the company declined to comment, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Disney CEO Bob Iger has previously emphasized that the company’s primary objective is to entertain rather than deliver social messages.

Speaking to CNBC earlier this year, Iger stated: “The term ‘woke’ is thrown around rather liberally. I think a lot of people don’t even understand really what it means. The bottom line is that infusing messaging as a sort of number one priority in our films and TV shows is not what we’re up to. They need to be entertaining.”

Public reactions to Disney’s latest move to remove the trans storyline from Win or Lose have been divided.

Supporters of the decision argue that sensitive topics should be left to parents to address with their children.

“As a parent, I’m grateful Disney is respecting our role in guiding our kids,” commented one social media user.

Others, however, view the removal as a capitulation to political pressures.

“Disney is caving to a loud minority and abandoning the very inclusivity it claims to champion,” criticized another.

Critics also expressed disappointment at what they perceive as a step backward for representation.

One commenter wrote: “This sends a message that trans stories aren’t worth telling, even in a nuanced way.”

Meanwhile, others speculated about the impact on the creators.

“Imagine the artists and writers who poured their hearts into that storyline only to see it erased,” said a Pixar fan.

This is not the first time Disney’s approach to LGBTQ representation has faced controversy.

The 2022 Toy Story prequel, Lightyear, included a same-sex kiss in its storyline but initially faced internal pushback before the scene was restored.

The film faced bans in over a dozen countries and criticism from conservative groups.

Additionally, Disney has showcased LGBTQ representation in adult-focused content, such as FX’s Pose and Marvel’s Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

However, Florida’s controversial ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law in 2022 drew Disney into a heated political battle, with the company’s response to the legislation fueling backlash from conservative media.

As Disney navigates these challenges, its leadership continues to reiterate a focus on entertainment over messaging.

“When I came back, what I’ve really tried to do is to return to our roots — which is, remember, we have to entertain first: it’s not about messages,” Iger said during last year’s DealBook Summit.

Despite these assurances, the decision to remove the storyline has reignited debates about the balance between inclusivity and entertainment, leaving many to question what the future holds for representation in mainstream media.

Jim Carrey Will Reprise Role As The Grinch – But Only Under One Condition

Jim Carrey Will Reprise Role As The Grinch – But Only Under One Condition

Jim Carrey has confirmed he would reprise his role as the Grinch, but there's one condition. Find out what it is here..

Jim Carrey has confirmed he would reprise his role as the Grinch, but there’s one condition.

The 2000 live-action adaptation of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, starring Jim Carrey, remains a holiday classic.

While it ranks fourth in the highest-grossing Christmas movies of all time, it still holds a special place in the hearts of fans.

For comparison, the 2018 animated version of The Grinch sits at number one, with Home Alone following in second place.

Despite the enduring popularity of the film, Jim Carrey has expressed reluctance to return to the role that required him to transform into the cantankerous green character.

His hesitation isn’t surprising given the challenges he faced during the making of the original movie.

In past interviews, Carrey has downplayed rumors of reprising the Grinch, even saying in 2022 that he’d stepped away from acting entirely.

At the time, he noted it would take a ‘script that’s written in gold ink’ to lure him back to the big screen.

However, Carrey recently gave fans a glimmer of hope. Speaking with ComicBook, he hinted at the possibility of revisiting the character.

When asked which role he’d consider reprising, he said, ‘If we could figure out the Grinch’ again, he’d be open to it.

But there’s a significant caveat.

Jim Carrey has not been shy about discussing the difficult process of becoming the Grinch.

He described the makeup and prosthetics required for the role as ‘an extremely excruciating process,’ adding: “I [became the Grinch] with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe.”

The process was so intense that producer Brian Grazer reportedly enlisted the help of a CIA expert to train Carrey in endurance techniques similar to those used to withstand torture.

The actor has even compared the experience to feeling ‘buried alive.’

Although the end result was iconic, it wasn’t without tension behind the scenes.

Kazuhiro Tsuji, the makeup artist responsible for the Grinch’s transformation, told Vulture that Carrey was ‘mean to everybody’ on set due to the stressful circumstances.

In response, the crew tried a unique approach to smooth things over.

According to Tsuji, they encouraged the actor to understand the importance of their efforts by briefly stepping away from the production.

This reportedly improved their working relationship.

Despite the difficulties, Carrey pushed through, motivated by his audience.

“The children were in my mind all the time,” he shared. “‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.’”

He also hinted that advances in technology could make a return to Whoville less arduous.

“With motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things. Anything is possible in this world,” he explained.

While fans may dream of seeing Carrey’s Grinch on screen once more, the actor has made one thing clear: he would only reconsider the role if the costume and makeup process were reimagined.

His condition is simple but firm – only a significant change in how the character is brought to life would make a reprise feasible.

Here’s hoping that the filmmaking magic of today can create the right environment to bring Carrey back for another unforgettable holiday performance.

Netflix Fans Call New Thriller The ‘Best Christmas Movie Of The Year’ And Say It’s ‘Better Than Die Hard’

A new holiday thriller on Netflix has taken audiences by storm, drawing comparisons to an action classic and being heralded by critics as a standout Christmas film.

The movie blends suspense, action, and seasonal charm, sparking debates about its place among festive favorites.

This gripping thriller comes from director Jaume Collet-Serra, best known for The Shallows, and stars Taron Egerton and Jason Bateman in a tense story set on Christmas Eve.

Egerton takes on the role of a TSA agent who finds himself coerced into smuggling dangerous items onto a flight under the threat of blackmail.

Bateman’s character plays a key role as the enigmatic figure pulling the strings, while a supporting cast, including Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, and Logan Marshall-Green, adds depth to the ensemble.

The film, penned by TJ Fixman, was originally intended to launch Netflix’s partnership with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin production company but underwent delays due to script revisions.

The extra time appears to have paid off, as the movie has garnered widespread praise.

Critics are hailing it as one of the top releases of the season, with William Bibbiani of The Wrap describing moments in the film as: “as exciting as any other action movie this year.”

Pramit Chatterjee of Digital Media Talkies went so far as to call it: “the best Christmas movie of the year,” while Nick Schager of The Daily Beast praised its fast-paced action and described it as a “Yuletide streaming gift.”

Director Collet-Serra has openly acknowledged the influence of Die Hard on the project.

Speaking to the BBC, he noted: “Everyone wants to make the next Die Hard, and the reality is that no one ever will – it’s a perfect movie that can’t be replicated.”

He added that the new film aims to offer a more grounded version of the 1988 classic, tailored to resonate with a modern audience.

The parallels to Die Hard extend beyond themes of high-stakes action during the holidays.

Like Bruce Willis’s John McClane, Egerton’s character is an everyman thrust into an extraordinary situation, balancing his professional duties with personal danger.

However, the director emphasized that the new film stands on its own while paying homage to its inspiration.

“It was our North Star throughout the process,” Collet-Serra remarked.

The debate over what constitutes a Christmas movie has lingered for years, particularly regarding Die Hard.

John McTiernan, director of the Willis-led blockbuster, weighed in on the topic in a 2020 video for the American Film Institute.

He revealed that while the film wasn’t initially intended as a Christmas story, its themes of joy and redemption during the holiday season ultimately solidified its status as a festive favorite.

Critics have noted that the new Netflix release successfully captures a similar spirit, blending holiday cheer with intense action.

James Dyer of Empire described the film as ‘Die Hard karaoke’ but praised its execution, even suggesting that it surpasses some entries in the McClane franchise.

Peter Debruge of Variety highlighted the seasonal setting, urging viewers to appreciate the dedication of TSA agents while enjoying the high-stakes drama from the comfort of home.

With its timely release and high praise, this movie has quickly established itself as a must-watch for the holiday season.

Whether it sparks debates about its classification as a Christmas film or simply serves as an entertaining escape, it’s clear that Netflix has delivered a hit.

Featuring an outstanding cast, taut storytelling, and a nod to a beloved classic, Carry-On has earned its place in the spotlight as a holiday thriller to remember.
