Woman Names Her Daughter After A Disney Character: ‘I Don’t Care If People Hate It’

Influencer Indy Clinton has sparked a backlash on social media as she's named her daughter after a Disney character.

A mum has been criticized for giving her baby an unusual name inspired by a popular Disney character.

The landscape of baby naming has experienced a dramatic transformation in recent years.

Traditional names like John, Mary, William, and Elizabeth are increasingly giving way to a new wave of creativity and individuality.

Gone are the days when a classroom was filled with multiple children answering to the same name.

Nowadays, parents want something that stands out, conveying a sense of individuality.

For one mum, this has led to a backlash and she’s been forced to defend her choice.

Australian fitness and lifestyle blogger Indy Clinton initially planned to name her second child Paloma but in the end, opted for something entirely different.

While some say they love the name she’s chosen, others say it’ll lead to the child being ‘ridiculed.’

“Imagine being an adult named this. These baby names are mad these days,” one person says.

Sarcastically, a second comments: “Are you naming humans that will be adults one day? Or kittens?”

“Definitely bring up the fact that kids are cruel. A unique name isn’t something to shy away from but a unique name that is indelibly tied to a character may not be desirable to your kid,” a third person pens. “Now imagine being in middle school with a Disney name.”

Defending the infant’s name, one fan writes: “People need to shut it. She can name her baby anything she wants. I think it’s adorable.”

In agreement, another adds: “Congratulations! It’s a wonderful name for your baby.”

“So happy, love the name,” a third person comments.

Clinton named her daughter Bambi, just like the 1942 Disney classic.

The influencer said her little girl’s ‘sweet, curious nature’ and ‘big brown eyes’ reminded her of the beloved cartoon deer, per MailOnline.

“When I was giving birth, I was convinced Bambi was the most unique, unusual name that nobody would use,” Clinton explained.

“We were set on calling her Paloma at first. That was her name, and nothing was going to change that. But I was reading the book to Navy [her son] one night and it came to me. I sat up and yelled, ‘What about Bambi?’ and from then on it stuck.”

Clinton is unfazed by people’s criticism of her choice – she says ‘unique names are the new trend’ and ‘people will criticize anything.’

She added: “She couldn’t be a Paloma now – she’s my Bambilicious.”

Clinton isn’t the only person to have gone viral after naming their daughter Bambi – former Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague named her little girl the same.

According to babynames.com, Bambi ‘is a diminutive form of the Italian word ‘bambino,’ which means child.

A mom who accidentally named her twins after TV characters has faced some serious mockery.

When it comes to parenting, there are some major decisions to be made, but perhaps none is more important than choosing the name for your baby.

The name you choose will stick with your child for life and have unforeseen impacts on their future.

So making a mistake when picking out your baby’s name is something that could haunt a parent for years to come.

And one mom has shared her unfortunate story of doing… well, just that.

Writing anonymously in a now-deleted post on NetMums, a mother shared her story, including the names she realized also belonged to two famous TV characters far too late.

People have had a lot of opinions on the subject, with one penning: “This is so unfortunate. Change the names.”

A second adds: “I’d change the names if I were you. Liking a name is not a reason to have your child bullied for life.”

“I didn’t realize that the name I gave my newborn is a popular TV show until a nurse told me. Her name is super uncommon too,” a third commenter commiserates.

While a fourth supportive mom offers: “I think it’s cute, your babies… who cares! They are not ridiculous names like some!”

The internet has had a lot to say about the babies’ controversial names. Credit: Alamy

“Don’t get me wrong, I love both the names but I feel like I made the wrong decision and I always get awkward reactions when people ask,” the mom wrote.

“I had doubts originally when I first had them as I had been on Tramadol for days and felt like I may have rushed the decision.”

She continued: “I am due to go and register them soon and am feeling under pressure to make a decision by then.”

“My partner thinks I’m being ridiculous but I’m the one who spends more time with other parents and children and I always dread people’s reaction when they ask their names.”

And as for the controversial names in question?

“I have twins which I named Charlie (boy) and Lola,” the mom admitted.

“If I do change a name it will be from Lola to Lila, so only one letter different and not too confusing for anyone, including the baby.

“I am worried about them being laughed at because of the program Charlie and Lola.

People have been quick to offer their opinions on the name choice, with the internet fairly divided on the subject.

One person wrote: “I personally think Lola is much nicer than Lila… and more unique too, I seem to see a lot of Layla and Lila but haven’t seen a Lola, I think it’s lovely.

“Of course, it’s your decision and as babies haven’t even been registered yet I don’t think it’s too late at all, your little girl won’t realize that was even her name yet and everybody else will get used to it.”

Another replied: “They’re all great names, maybe refer to them as Lola and Charlie? But it’s definitely not too late to change your daughters if you prefer Lila. Congratulations!”

A third added: “I would keep them if you like them – sod what others think.”

While a fourth said: “I’ll be honest and say it shouldn’t really matter why you named your children what you did, whether it’s linked to a TV program, book or song title or it just jumped out at you as a name you loved, that’s totally your business.”

What do you think of the names?

Bath & Body Works Removes Controversial Candle From Stores

In a recent move sparking widespread attention, Bath & Body Works has pulled a controversial candle from its store shelves.

In a recent move sparking widespread attention, Bath & Body Works has pulled a controversial candle from its store shelves following backlash from customers.
Bath & Body Works has recently come under fire for a candle design that many people found offensive, prompting the popular retailer to pull the product from its shelves.

The controversy centers around a candle that featured a snowflake cutout, which some customers and online commentators claimed bore an unsettling resemblance to something hugely offensive.

Although the design was meant to evoke a festive winter theme, the unintended comparison quickly became a hot topic on social media platforms, leading the company to issue an apology and remove the product from its stores and website.

Bath & Body Works is widely known for its seasonal products, often launching special lines for holidays such as Halloween, Christmas, and the winter season.

Other seasonal products, such as their ‘Hot Cocoa and Cream’ scented candle and the popular ‘Leaves; candle, continue to be available, drawing in customers with fragrances that evoke the warmth and coziness of the colder months.

But one of the brand’s wintertime offerings has prompted a rather less positive response online.

The candle in question featured a snowflake design with pointed arms, each adorned with two circular cutouts.

The candle’s white color and the specific shape of the cutouts led some people to liken the imagery to the hoods worn by the KKK, a white supremacist group with a notorious history in the United States.

Online users on platforms like Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) were quick to call attention to the resemblance, and a thread titled ‘KKKKandles’ gained traction on Reddit.

Users pointed out that when lit, the candlelight would shine through the holes in the snowflake design, further intensifying the visual similarity to KKK members standing in front of a fire.

One Reddit user remarked: “Oh god, the background colors and the little holes in the label make it look like they are standing in front of a fire … the bad kind of fire lol.”

One user on X commented, “I’m pretty sure Bath & Body Works didn’t envision anything other than a snowflake. That being said, I can’t unsee the reason they have been pulled from shelves.”

An Instagram user, @_scentsgalore, who describes themselves as a ‘candle hoarder,’ commented: “Don’t be surprised if we do not see this one in store! Initially, I did not see it but now I can’t unsee it!”

Responses to the post were mixed, with one person arguing: “Nobody caught it because it’s a paper snowflake. People are literally looking for reasons to be outraged.”

While another wrote: “People claiming they can’t see it are gaslighting. It’s staring at you right in the face.”

Others acknowledged that offense is subjective, with one commenter noting, “Being offended is subjective. Just because you aren’t, doesn’t mean others’ feelings are invalid.”

One person remarked, “If we noticed, I’m sure folks at the company did, too.”

This isn’t the first time Bath & Body Works has faced criticism for insensitivity.

Two years ago, the brand was criticized for its Black History Month collection, which featured Kente cloth designs on its packaging, leading to accusations of cultural appropriation.

At the time, Shyriaka ‘Shy’ Morris, an artist and founder of PEACE ARTS, told The Daytona Beach News-Journal: “This was a missed opportunity to push the culture forward, instead of capitalizing like most companies do off the Black dollar.”

In response to the growing criticism, Bath & Body Works swiftly addressed the situation, expressing regret for the unintentional design and pulling the candle from its shelves and online store.

The company sent a statement to CBS MoneyWatch acknowledging the issue and clarifying that the resemblance to KKK hoods was accidental.

“At Bath & Body Works, we are committed to listening to our teams and customers, and committed to fixing any mistakes we make — even those that are unintentional like this one,” the company said.

“We apologize to anyone we’ve offended and are swiftly working to have this item removed and are evaluating our process going forward.”

Despite Bath & Body Works’ swift action, the now-discontinued candle has become something of a collector’s item.

Listings for the candle, which was scented with ‘creamy buttermint, sweet musk, and cozy vanilla,’ have appeared on resale sites such as eBay, with some sellers asking for prices as high as $350.

Death Row Inmate Suffered ‘Excruciating’ Death After Making Last Meal ‘Mistake’

Death row inmate Wesley Ira Purkey suffered an 'excruciating' execution after making a 'mistake' in his last meal request.

A death row inmate suffered an ‘excruciating’ execution after making a ‘mistake’ in his last meal request.

Wesley Ira Purkey, 68, was placed on death row in 2004 for kidnapping, r***ing, and murdering 16-year-old schoolgirl Jennifer Long in 1998.

He reportedly lured the young girl into his pickup truck outside of a supermarket after she was last seen skipping lessons on January 22.

Purkey proceeded to r*** Long before s****ing her to death.

He then dis***bered her body with a chainsaw – he is believed to have buried the victim in a septic pond in Clearwater, Kansas.

Long’s remains are yet to be found.

Purkey also beat 80-year-old polio sufferer Mary Bales to death in October 1998 with a claw hammer after he had been to her house to fix a kitchen tap.

He was arrested after the victim’s neighbours became aware of what had happened.

Purkey pleaded guilty to Bales’ murder and was sentenced to life in prison. He then confessed to Long’s murder and was given the death penalty.

Purkey was executed in 2020 after he was given a lethal injection of pentobarbital, as per the Death Penalty Information Center.

His autopsy revealed that he suffered ‘severe bilateral acute pulmonary oedema and ‘frothy pulmonary oedema in the trachea and main stem bronchi’.

This means that fluid entered his lungs and trachea quickly, leading to him feeling ‘a near-drowning’ sensation – which medical experts describe as one of the ‘most excruciating feelings known to man’, according to News.com.au.

Dr Gail Van Norman explains: “It is a virtual medical certainty, that most, if not all, prisoners will experience excruciating suffering, including sensations of drowning and suffocation from [the lethal injection drug] pentobarbital.”

Purkey reportedly expressed remorse in his final words, saying (via Daily Star): “I deeply regret the pain and suffering I caused to Jennifer’s family. I am deeply sorry. I deeply regret the pain I caused to my daughter, who I love so very much.

“This sanitised murder really does not serve no purpose whatsoever.”

Long’s family were present at the execution, with her father William saying: “We took care of today, what we needed to take care of. It has been a long time coming.

“He needed to take his last breath – he took my daughter’s last breath. And there’s some resolve. There is no closure, and there never will be because I won’t get my daughter back.”

In his final days, it’s believed Purkey suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, as per AP News.

The night before his execution, the inmate reportedly saw Bill Clinton on TV and said that he would vote for him in the upcoming presidential election.

Purkey is believed to have asked for pecan pie for his last meal. He asked to have it ‘later’, unaware there wouldn’t be a ‘later’.

Tom and Eileen Lonergan, the couple left abandoned in shark-infested waters by a boat, ended up inspiring one of the scariest horror films ever seen.

The disappearance of the American couple remains a mystery that has never been solved.

But what happened to the pair is so viscerally frightening that it ended up inspiring a truly terrifying horror movie…

Tom and Eileen Lonergan went diving with a tour boat off the coast of Australia on January 25, 1998.

But tragically, the couple never returned from their adventure.

The expedition took off from Port Douglas, in Queensland, Australia, en route to St. Crispin’s reef.

The stunning area of the Great Barrier Reef is a popular tourist spot – but the shark-infested waters mean any divers have to proceed with caution.

From Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Tom was 33 and Eileen was 28.

The couple was described as ‘young, idealistic and in love with each other.’

After meeting at university, the couple spent a year serving at the Peace Corps in Fiji.

Following their service, the pair decided to visit Australia to do some diving.

Using the diving company, Outer Edge, 26 passengers boarded the scuba boat.

Geoffrey Nairn, the boat’s skipper, took the party out 25 miles to sea, and the participants all entered the water.

Horrifyingly, this is the last concrete bit of information anyone has about Tom and Eileen.

After around 40 minutes, the rest of the divers emerged from the water, got back on the boat, and returned to dry land.

It took a while before anyone even noticed that Tom and Eileen weren’t with them.

Two whole days passed before Nairn realized that the pair were missing because he had discovered a bag containing their wallets and passports on the boat.

After Nairn raised the alarm, a huge search party started, including both the Navy and civilian vessels.

Terrifyingly, certain items belonging to the Lonergan’s began to wash ashore, including a dive slate which bore the harrowing message: “To anyone who can help us: We have been abandoned on Agin court reef Reef 25 Jan 1998 03 pm. Please help us come to rescue us before we die. Help!!!”

And what’s even more chilling?

The fact that the couple’s bodies were never found.

Following the pair’s disappearance, some disturbing diary entries of Eileen’s sparked conspiracy theories over what happened to the pair.

She wrote: “Tom’s not suicidal, but he’s got a death wish that could lead him to what he desires and I could get caught in that.

“He hopes to die a quick and painless death, and he hopes it happens soon.”

Eventually, an inquest was held, with coroner Noel Nunan concluding that Nairn was responsible for the tragedy.

Nunan said: “The skipper should be vigilant for the safety of passengers and ensure safety measures are carried out.

“When you combine the number of mistakes and the severity of the mistakes I am satisfied a reasonable jury would find Mr Nairn guilty of manslaughter on criminal evidence.”

Nairn was acquitted by the jury, however, his company Outer Edge Boat Company went bankrupt following the scandal, as per The Guardian.

The tragedy prompted a change in law in Queensland, requiring diving boat skippers to perform headcounts to all divers onboard, according to Daily Express.
