Danny Jones’ McFly bandmate wanted Coleen Rooney to win I’m A Celeb

Former King of the Jungle Dougie Poynter joked on Instagram that he had wanted Coleen Rooney to be crowned winner of the 2024 series, rather than his pal Danny Jones

One of Danny Jones’ McFly bandmates has jokingly shared that they wanted Coleen Rooney to be crowned Queen of the Jungle.

Last night, the pop punk guitarist was named winner of the 2024 series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, beating the sleuthing WAG into second place. But former winner Dougie Poynter claims that he wanted Coleen to win.

He told his Instagram followers: “I’m actually really disappointed because I was voting for Coleen. Erm, whatever. I think she was the more deserving winner.” But before there was time for any rumours of a feud to fom, he added: “I’m joking, of course I’m f****** stoked.”

Turning up on a winter reality show has turned into a bit of a rite of passage for the McFly boys. In 2011, Dougie Pointer was crowned King of the Jungle – with Tom Fletcher making a cameo appearance as a question-asking gorilla. It was the same year Harry Judd picked up the Glitterball Trophy at the Strictly Come Dancing final in Blackpool.

Ten years later, Tom also took part in the BBC dancing contest and was paired up with Amy Dowden. They came seventh overall, making him the only member of the band to never take a reality show crown.

However, his wife, author Giovanna Fletcher, won the 2021 series of I’m A Celeb, which, due to lockdown restrictions, was filmed in a dank Welsh castle rather than the humid Aussie jungle.

During Sunday’s final Danny, 38, joined hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly in the studio and told them it felt “amazing” and “surreal” to win.

While Danny is clearly over the moon after being crowned King of the jungle – not everyone is as impressed. Several I’m A Celebrity viewers flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter , to insist that runner-up Coleen was ‘robbed’. Elsewhere, others pointed out that the McFly bandmates have dominated reality TV wins this year.

“People are underestimating the McFly fan base!!” Trust me, we’re not. Every member of McFly or Busted that steps foot in there becomes king of the jungle. It is this narrative “well Danny will win anyway” that makes it all quite boring! I LOVE Danny, don’t get me wrong I’ll be happy for him, but the writing was on the wall from day dot – regardless of how much we’ve come to love the others – and I think it’s a shame that the rest stand no chance tbh, it just takes a little bit of the excitement away #ImACeleb ,” one fumed.

“Should have put a bet on I’m A Celeb, don’t even watch the programme but even I know McFly fans are going to pull in the votes,” another complained. “If there’s one thing our mcfly boys are going to do, it’s win a reality show (sorry tom) #imaceleb ,” someone else pointed out.
