Boy, 7, left hospitalized and needing ’emergency heart surgery’ after drones fall into crowd at Florida Christmas show
A young boy has reportedly been left requiring emergency heart surgery after being hit by a falling drone during a Christmas show in Orlando, Florida.
As reported by the New York Post, the holiday drone show took a terrifying turn Saturday night when drones collided mid-air, plummeting into the crowd below and reportedly injuring several spectators, including the young boy.
The incident occurred at the 6:30PM Christmas-themed display over Lake Eola Park in Orlando.
The show, operated by Sky Elements Drones in partnership with the City of Orlando, involved hundreds of red and green drones choreographed into festive formations. However, the spectacle turned disastrous when a cluster of drones veered off course and hurtled toward the ground at high speed.
Video footage captured by attendees reveals the chaos that followed. In one clip posted on TikTok, the audience can be heard gasping in shock as drones streak downward. A young child’s voice is heard asking, “What’s happening?” as confusion and panic spread among the crowd.
CNN reports that the Orlando Fire Department has confirmed in an email to the outlet that one person was hospitalized as a result of the incident.
Two mothers have since taken to social media to claim their young son was gravely injured during the incident.
They shared harrowing details and images on Facebook, alleging the seven-year-old child was struck in the face/chest by a falling drone and required emergency surgery.
“Pray for my son, we went to the drone show at Lake Eola and one of the drones hit him in the face,” wrote Jessica Lumedge in a Facebook post accompanied by a photo of the child with a bloody upper lip.
“I have never been so scared,” added Adriana Edgerton, the boy’s other mother. “I can’t believe a drone show at Lake Eola Park turned into this. I’m terrified for my baby.”
Later, Edgerton shared another heart-wrenching update. “My baby is going into emergency heart surgery off of just trying to watch a drone show. I am beyond words, beyond terrified,” she wrote, vowing that those responsible would be held accountable.
The parents have since launched a GoFundMe page, with Lumedge detailing: “My baby is going into emergency heart surgery. Our family attended the drone show at Lake Eola on 12/21.

“One of the drones shot into my son’s chest, and our family would be so grateful for support for Alezander. He is currently staying in the hospital. I will be missing work at this time, and he will be celebrating Christmas in the ICU.”
As of this writing, over $3,700 has been raised for the family.
Speaking to Channel 9 News, Edgerton recalled the scary incident, saying: “I was freaking out that I was going to lose my baby because he was losing consciousness,” adding that their family was out by Lake Eola for the holidays.
“We were really excited to hear that they were having a drone show at Lake Eola. The light shows going on, and all of a sudden, one of the drones just lost it. Looked like a bird that was diving for fish,” the concerned mom continued.
Edgerton says that her son was born prematurely and underwent open-heart surgery on Sunday afternoon.
The City of Orlando addressed the incident, canceling the subsequent 8:00PM show and announcing that an investigation was underway. “We are in contact with the vendor to determine what occurred with the operation,” Andrea Otero, the city’s public information manager, told FOX 35. “FAA is handling the investigation.”
Sky Elements Drones, the company behind the show, has since released the following statement: “Sky Elements Drones wants to extend our sincere hope for a full and speedy recovery to those impacted at our Lake Eola show in Orlando on Saturday, Dec. 21. The well-being of our audience is our utmost priority, and we regret any distress or inconvenience caused.
“We are diligently working with the FAA and City of Orlando officials to determine the cause and are committed to establishing a clear picture of what transpired. Millions of people see our shows annually, and we are committed to maintaining the highest safety regulations set forth by the FAA.”
The mishap raises concerns about the safety of drone displays, which have grown in popularity as alternatives to fireworks but still carry risks when things go wrong.
As the investigation unfolds, the community is rallying around the injured child, with messages of support flooding social media.
