Of course, that’s the name of the game, however, that doesn’t mean fans haven’t tried their hardest.
A number of theories have been thrown about regarding the contestant’s relationships with one another – with some speculating there might be a hidden marriage or sibling relationship amongst this year’s cast, though these have since been shut down.
And it seems that secrecy doesn’t stop there as one of the BBC show’s contestants admitted that he had to come up with backstories when some of his fellow stars came to his real-life wedding.
While on The Traitors: Uncloaked, Alex was asked about having both Lisa and Linda at his nuptials, but given that he’d met them off a game show, he had to think of a way to explain their presence at his big day.
Alex revealed that he came up with backstories for some of his fellow contestants (BBC)
He explained: “We came up with this elaborate backstory about when they were holidaying one time in Scotland and put all this effort.”
Host Ed Gamble said: “Oh, of course, because nobody at the wedding could know who they were!”
Alex said: “Yeah, [the wedding] was in September! I was like ‘Linda, don’t spoil this one! Come on!’
“So we had this whole story and we were feeling really nervous that someone was going to ask, but nobody even asked!”
When a fellow panellist pointed out that Lisa was a vicar and could have been at the wedding in another capacity, Alex was dumbfounded.
“It’s only just occurred to me!” he admitted, to which Ed interjected: “And Linda’s a retired opera singer! She could have done the reception!”
Well, are you really friends if you don’t officiate and sing at your pal’s wedding?
Alex continued: “The best thing is, a couple of months after, me and Linda were in the back of a taxi. And she went ‘You know, it must have been such a good day, your wedding’.

“And I went ‘Linda, you were there’. She was like ‘Oh, yes!’ She’d literally forgotten she was at my wedding!”
I guess ‘a day to remember’ isn’t a universal experience after all.
Alex and Lisa have been tight knit throughout the show, so much so that some have questioned whether they were actually related.
Whilst appearing on The Traitors: Uncloaked, Alex revealed he’d gotten a text from his sister asking: “Why do you look more like the priest on The Traitors than our mum?”
He saw the resemblance: “And it’s so true! I thought ‘There’s been a swap in the hospital’.
“We need a DNA test done now.”
