Paranormal Investigator Dies Suddenly While On Tour With Real ‘Haunted ‘Annabelle’ Doll

Paranormal investigator Dan Rivera has died during a 'haunted' tour showcasing a 'possessed' Annabelle doll, which inspired the Conjuring.

A paranormal investigator has died at 54 after showcasing an allegedly ‘possessed’ Annabelle doll.

Dan Rivera had been working on paranormal research and investigations for over 10 years prior to his death on July 13.

Emergency services were called to a hotel in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where CPR was reportedly administered to Rivera.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the father-of-four passed away at the scene.

The investigator was leading the Devils on the Run tour, which showcases a ‘demonically possessed’ Annabelle doll, at the time of his death.

The New England Society for Psychic Research, founded by Ed and Lorraine Warren, whose story led to the development of the horror film franchise The Conjuring, confirmed his death on Monday (July 14), in a heartfelt Facebook post.

It read: “We are heartbroken and still processing this loss.

“Dan truly believed in sharing his experiences and educating people on the paranormal.

“His kindness and passion touched everyone who knew him.

“Thank you for your support and kind thoughts during this difficult time.”

Louise Warren was also a mentor to Rivera.

In his bio on the touring website, the 54-year-old described himself as an expert in the rites and rituals of Santeria – an Afro-Caribbean religion.

It also read: “At an early age he was introduced to haunting phenomena, having witnessed paranormal events occurring in his home.”

He had been showcasing the raggedy Ann doll on the tour, which is still running until September.

The doll’s origin goes back to 1968, when a student nurse received her as a gift, and brought it to the home where she lived with her roommate.

The organization said: “Almost immediately, the roommates noticed strange occurrences with the doll and they were introduced to a medium who told them the doll was inhabited by the spirit of a young girl named Annabelle.

“The two roommates tried to accept the doll’s spirit and please it only to have it reciprocate maliciousness and violent intent.”

Paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, were called in to confirm that the doll was ‘possessed.’

They indeed took her home, where she was stored in a glass box ‘to contain the evil spirited entity.’

The Conjuring storyline was developed from this true happening.

The exact cause of Rivera’s death is yet to be confirmed.

After authorities confirmed the investigator had died, his family took to Facebook to issue an emotional statement.

They said: “We as a family are in pieces as we share the news that Dan Rivera has passed away unexpectedly.

“He was the center of this family and a pillar of love and strength.

“As a devoted husband, father of four sons, and a staunchly faithful friend, he always had a quiet source of resilience, strength and endless hope. Daniel carried a light and a brave heart everyday through his life and his work.

“We are currently at a loss for words as we process his loss but are extremely thankful for the love, support and respect during this unimaginable time.”

Rivera had also served in the U.S. Army, and is survived by his wife Sarah and their four children.

‘I’m Straight And My Husband Is Gay – This Is The Question Everyone Always Asks’

‘I’m Straight And My Husband Is Gay – This Is The Question Everyone Always Asks’

A straight woman and her gay husband have opened up about their dynamic in the bedroom, as everyone asks the same question.

‘I’m Straight And My Husband Is Gay – This Is The Question Everyone Always Asks’

A straight woman has opened up about her relationship with her gay husband.

Samantha Greenstone, 37, and Jacob Hoff, 31, from Los Angeles, have a very unique dynamic.

The pair met at auditions for the play Fiddler on the Roof over a decade ago, and have been together ever since.

They also plan to have a family together, after tying the knot at the end of 2024.

Despite Jacob identifying as gay and Samantha as straight, the two claim to have a connection that transcends ‘s**uality.’

Samantha, 37, recently took to her Instagram to answer questions from fans, about how their relationship works.

And Jacob, 31, joined to share his insight and unique perspective.

The one question that everyone wanted to know, is if the two sleep together.

Which, according to the couple, is on the cards.

Samantha said: “Yes and not just side by side under the covers.”

As Jacob added: “No and we don’t just cut a hole in the sheet either.”

“Nope we do it the good old fashioned way,” she noted.

“If you’re confused by what that means, then it’s not our job to teach you the birds and the bees. That responsibility relies on your parents.”

Jacob expressed: “I know it’s mind-bending to a lot of you to be like ‘Well he’s gay, how can he be sleeping with a woman?’

“This isn’t a woman, this is my wife, this is my soulmate, my partner.”

The married couple believe there is way more to their bond than aesthetics and genders.

The 37-year-old added: “It’s just a matter of saying that this isn’t a surface level connection.

“It’s so deep, it’s so intimate. It’s two people just coming together – two souls coming together.

“That’s it, there’s none of that ephemeral beauty nonsense on top of it.”

The clip racked up one million views, with people in the comments extremely confused as to how Jacob identifies as gay, despite having a wife.

“I’m still so confused. So he is bi?’ one added.

As another said: “I’ll never get it but that’s on me. Love that you answer questions.”

Jacob opened up in an interview with the Mirror about how frustrating it can be when people question his relationship.

He said: “We get a lot of, ‘Well how is Jacob ever going to be fulfilled by not being expressing his gayness?’

“That’s where I see a little bit of the bigotry come in, because it’s like, ‘Oh, you think because I’m gay I’m less loyal to a person?’”

The 31-year-old added: “Just because I’m gay doesn’t mean that I would ever be less loyal.

“In a relationship, you wake up and choose your person every day, and that’s the same no matter what dynamic.”

And the couple are eager to have a family of their own one day, after finding their unique ‘soul connection.’

Jennifer Aniston Has A New Boyfriend And Everyone’s Saying The Same Thing

Jennifer Aniston has debuted her new boyfriend Jim Curtis, and everyone is saying the same thing about the pair.

Jennifer Aniston‘s new boyfriend described their relationship as ‘magic’ – and people are all saying the same thing.

It seems there’s a new man in town for Aniston, as the actress was pictured cozied up with her wellness guru beau on a getaway in Spain.

The Friends icon took a trip to Mallorca with her pals just last week, but it seems her boyfriend made an appearance, as the two were spotted together embracing on a yacht.

The man in question is author Jim Curtis, and despite Aniston not having addressed the relationship rumors, the pair seem extremely smitten.

Aniston, 56, and Curtis, 49, were also spotted on the coast of California last month.

And Curtis, a famous hypnotist, didn’t hold back disclosing how he felt about their recent vacation, in his wellness newsletter released just yesterday (July 14).

Gushing to readers, he wrote: “I am back from vacation and what an experience!

“When I was sick, sad, stuck and in pain I never thought I would have the abundance, joy and love I now experience on a daily basis.”

He added: “I just took one step, made one decision and the next followed — now I look back and realize, oh!  That course, that life change, that pain, resulted in this magic.”

While he didn’t divulge any major details about the two or their relationship, there’s no denying that he seemed extremely happy.

Dishing out advice to his subscribers, he said: “The possibility of something better — more aligned, more free, more meaningful — is always here.”

The actress has managed to dodge all questions surrounding her relationship status, but follows Curtis on Instagram, and even promoted the release of his new book in May.

Aniston has been married twice before – to actor Brad Pitt in 2000, and Justin Theroux in 2015.

It seems Curtis has also previously been married, to former wife Rachel Napolitano, in June 2003.

But fans couldn’t be happier for the favourite acting legend, given her turbulent relationship past.

They rushed to Instagram to share their well wishes.

One said: “I have wanted her to be happy my whole life.”

Another added: “Hope he’s a good guy.”

“Go Jenn, what a hunk, happy for her,” a third said.

Others said that they wish the star nothing but ‘happiness.’

Speaking to InStyle Magazine in 2012 about finding a partner, Aniston said: “Having experienced everything you don’t want in a partner over time, it starts to narrow down to what you actually do want.”

She added: “As I get older, I realize what qualities are important in love and what suits me. And what I won’t settle for.”

Others in the comments made quips about the hypnotist making Aniston fall in love with him.

One said: “Did he hypnotize her to fall in love.”

As another joked: “Obviously, dudes a hypnotist.”

During an interview Vanity Fair, she also noted what she has learnt from previous relationships.

The actress said: “I won’t give over so much of myself, which I have done at times.

“I love taking care of people, and I definitely put their needs before mine sometimes … somewhere along the way, you sort of lose yourself.”

Justin Bieber has shared an eyebrow-raising image on social media, and now everyone’s making the same comment.

In recent years, the ‘Baby’ singer has been out of the spotlight to focus on health and family.

The pop icon revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome in 2022, leaving fans worried.

In 2024, he and his wife Hailey Bieber became parents for the first time after welcoming their son, Jack Blues.

Now Bieber has spent time away from the limelight, it’s been said he’s set for a major comeback.

So, what better way to get everyone talking than by posting a cheeky snap on Instagram?

The ‘Yummy’ singer is rumored to be planning to release a new album and announce a world tour in 2025.

His last released album was ‘Justice’ in 2021, which debuted atop the charts in ten countries and received positive praise.

Sources told Puck News’ Matthew Belloni in his What I’m Hearing newsletter that Bieber ‘needs the money and wants to work,’ per MailOnline.

Belloni claims Bieber ‘still owes’ the touring company AEG ‘a ton for his canceled tour’ in March 2023, plus he has ‘other pop star expenses’ to fork out for.

Lawyer Michael Rhodes now represents the pop star after he parted ways with manager Scooter Braun.

Music artist Mk.gee also told The New York Times that he worked with Bieber on some tracks.

Amid talks of Bieber’s comeback, a photo of the singer on his Aspen vacation has gone viral.

He gives fans a complete view of his physique and manhood as he reclines on a wooden chair while completely wet.

Taken aback by the cheeky snap, people are taking to the comments and making the same comment about his bulge.

“He looks really cold,” one follower says.

Another adds: “Good thing they clarified he just got out of a COLD plunge.”

“Something is cold,” a third person remarks.

A fourth follower jokes: “He and Justin Timberlake seem to have the same size package.”

Kate Middleton Issues Rare Statement On Cancer Battle: It’s ‘Really, Really Difficult’

Kate Middleton has given rare insight into her battle with cancer, as the princess noted how 'difficult' the time really was to navigate.

Kate Middleton Issues Rare Statement On Cancer Battle: It’s ‘Really, Really Difficult’

Kate Middleton has opened up about her ‘rollercoaster’ battle with cancer.

The Princess of Wales announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, after rumors circulated on social media about her disappearance from public life.

In a clip revealing the devastating news, Middleton said: “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful.

“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present.

“My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

She added that: “It has taken us time to explain everything to GeorgeCharlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be okay.”

In September last year, the royal announced that she had completed her treatment, and in January 2025 revealed that she was in remission.

But following the health scare, she has decided to take a very slow and steady return to royal life, given the demanding nature of the public-facing job.

Middleton was set to make an appearance alongside her husband at the Royal Ascot in June, but it was announced last minute that the mom-of-three would not be in attendance.

Speaking to People, Queen Elizabeth’s former spokeswoman Ailsa Anderson, said: “She’s being sensible, listening to what her body is telling her and easing back into public life.”

But the princess recently opened up about the true extent of her cancer battle, and how she navigated the challenging time following her treatment.

She made her return to public duties with a meaningful visit to a hospital garden in Essex, U.K., where she spoke about finding her ‘new normal.’

Middleton said: “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment.

“Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.”

The 43-year-old added: “You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to.

“And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable.”

She noted that having someone to talk to during the ‘life-changing’ experience is so vital.

“You have to find your new normal, and that takes time,” Middleton said.

“And it’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be.

“But the reality is you go through hard times.”

Her visit to the hospital garden, in particular, was fueled by how much nature and being outside helped her through the difficult journey.

She noted that it’s where she felt most ‘at peace.’

Who Was Paul Walker?

Born in California in 1973, Paul Walker made his big-screen debut in the 1986 horror spoof Monster in Your Closet. After appearing in several television shows in the 1990s, including Charles in ChargeWho’s the Boss? and The Young and the Restless, Walker gained attention with a role in the 1999 film Varsity Blues, and his TV days were officially behind him. After working in teen movies such as She’s All That and The Skulls, Walker got his breakthrough role in 2001 with The Fast and the Furious, which would become his star vehicle and keep him busy through four sequels and a short prequel. The Fast and the Furious franchise established Walker as an action-film mainstay, and he went on to appear in several films in the genre, including TakersHours and Vehicle 19. Walker died in a car accident on November 30, 2013, at age 40.

Death

Walker died in a car accident on November 30, 2013 at the age of 40. Walker was in Santa Clarita, California, to attend a charity event for Reach Out Worldwide to benefit victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. He was reportedly in the passenger seat of a Porsche when his friend who was driving lost control, crashing the vehicle into a tree. The car was engulfed in flames and both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

At the time of his death, Walker had finished Brick Mansions and was working on Fast & Furious 7. Brick Mansions was released in 2014 and Fast & Furious 7 premiered in April 3, 2015 to huge box office returns. In March 2015, co-star Vin Diesel named his new baby daughter Pauline after his friend.

Daughter

Walker has a daughter, Meadow Rain, with ex-girlfriend Rebecca McBrain. In his will, Walker left his $25 million estate to Meadow and requested that his mother become her legal guardian.

Brothers

The 2015 release of Fast & Furious 7 was made possible with the help of Walker’s two brothers, Caleb and Cody, who had a close physical resemblance to the actor. The brothers worked with visual effects artists in scenes that needed to be reshot of the late actor, and with the implementation of CG, brought Walker back to life.

The film would go on to gross $1.7 billion internationally.

Early Career

Born on September 12, 1973, in Glendale, California, Paul Walker appeared in front of the camera at a young age, modeling and acting in television shows such as Charles in ChargeHighway to Heaven and Who’s the Boss. In 1986 he made his film debut in the horror spoof Monster in the Closet while also landing a recurring role on TV’s Throb.

After high school, Walker attended various California community colleges, but he dove into acting full-time in 1993, taking a role in the soap opera The Young and the Restless. After a handful of TV guest roles and the lead in Tammy and the T-Rex, Walker starred in the family comedy Meet the Deedles and left his TV career behind for good.

Movies

Walker’s next role was a big one for his career: He appeared opposite Reese Witherspoon in the critically acclaimed, high-concept Pleasantville. From that point on, Walker found himself in starring roles in such late-1990s films as She’s All ThatVarsity Blues and The Skulls — all pitched at a teen audience which helped turn Walker into a heartthrob.

‘The Fast and the Furious’

In 2001 Walker’s career hit overdrive when he landed a leading role alongside up-and-comer Vin Diesel in The Fast and the Furious. A film that paid homage to road films of the 1970s, The Fast and the Furious brought Walker to new heights of fame on the way to box-office receipts of more than $200 million.

Two years later, the franchise was back with its first sequel, 2 Fast 2 Furious, and Walker was again along for the ride. The film’s gross was even larger than the first, and a bona fide hit series was under way. Walker then appeared in a few more action-oriented movies, including Timeline (2003), Into the Blue (2005) and Running Scared (2006), while also signing on to appear in the ensemble drama Noel (2004) and the children’s adventure movie Eight Below (2006).

‘Flags of Our Fathers,’ ‘The Death and Life of Bobby Z’

Walker also showed his range as an actor in the 2006 war drama Flags of Our Fathers, directed by Clint Eastwood. He continued to take on more action movie roles in The Death and Life of Bobby Z (2007), Takers (2010) and Fast Five (2011) — the third installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. In 2012 Walker signed on to film Fast & Furious 6 (2013), keeping the series’ momentum going.

While not filming, Walker was active in Reach Out Worldwide, a nonprofit organization he formed in 2010 to bring aid to regions devastated by natural disasters.

‘I Am Paul Walker’ Documentary

In August 2018, Paramount Network is set to release I Am Paul Walker, a feature-length documentary about the life and career of the late Fast and Furious actor. The doc will include interviews with co-stars such as Tyrese Gibson, directors Rob Cohen and Wayne Kramer, as well as Walker’s family members.

Tom Brady Responds to Report Suggesting He Thinks Sofia Vergara Is ‘Too Old’ for Him to Date

The report came on the heels of dating rumors that began shortly after the pair were reportedly seen flirting on the new Ritz-Carlton superyacht last week. Insiders say the romance was short-lived.

Tom Brady is shutting down a report suggesting his true feelings about Sofia Vergara. The former NFL quarterback and “America’s Got Talent” judge became the center of a media frenzy when rumors began circulating that they were enjoying a “summer romance” in Ibiza.

The speculation began last week when the pair were aboard the new Ritz-Carlton superyacht, the Luminara. They were among several A-listers at the vessel’s launch, which featured a two-day luxury voyage that set sail in Rome.

It was reported that during one of the gala nights, Brady asked to sit next to Vergara and the two were more than friendly with each other. Shortly thereafter, Vergara posted a photo of herself and Brady at their table as J Balvin passed by, planting a kiss on the actress’s forehead.

After their time on the Luminara, Brady and Vergara reportedly continued spending time together. This week, however, sources who spoke to TMZ stated that Vergara and Brady are not dating, and that what they had was nothing more than a fling.

Another insider that later spoke to Daily Mail claimed Brady “loves being single and is enjoying his summer before he starts working again. They added that the 47-year-old “is not looking for a relationship” and “isn’t looking to settle down” at the moment.

Regarding Vergara, the insider stated, “He sees Sofia as beautiful and his type, but he isn’t going to start a relationship with her as she is older and stuck in her ways. He knows he could only take her in small doses.”

Brady’s representative has since responded to this in a statement. “Tom never said, nor would he ever say, anything like this. It is pure fiction,” the rep said.

Two Women, Beverly Gumm and Christina Combs, Tragically Killed in Kentucky Church Shooting – Here’s What We Know

What began as a routine traffic stop in Lexington, Kentucky, escalated into a deadly church shooting on Sunday, leaving two women dead and several others injured, according to law enforcement.

Two women were killed and two men injured in a shooting on July 13, 2025, at Richmond Road Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky, following a series of violent events that began with the shooting of a state trooper near the city’s airport, according to officials.

The incident started at approximately 11:35 a.m. ET, when a Kentucky state trooper conducted a traffic stop on Terminal Drive near Blue Grass Airport after a license plate reader triggered an alert.

During the stop, the trooper was shot by the suspect, who then fled the scene and carjacked a vehicle. The suspect traveled about 15 miles to Richmond Road Baptist Church, where further violence unfolded, Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said during a news conference on Sunday.

Once at the church, the suspect “fired his weapon at individuals on church property,” according to Chief Lawrence. Two women, identified as Christina Combs, 34, and Beverly Gumm, 72, were fatally shot.

Earlier, the Fayette County Coroner had incorrectly listed Christina’s age as 32. Two men were also injured in the church shooting. One remains in critical condition, while the other is in stable condition. The trooper injured in the initial shooting is also in stable condition.

The suspect was shot and killed by three responding officers at the church. Police confirmed his identity but have not released his name, citing the need to notify his family.

Officials said preliminary information suggests the shooter may have had a connection to individuals at the church, though no further details were given.

Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn noted that the Richmond Road Baptist Church congregation is “a very tight-knit group of people,” with many members related to each other. He also stated that he was able to notify the victims’ families quickly.

The church, located in the rural Old Richmond Road Corridor of Lexington, is near a horse riding school and an alpaca breeder.

According to its website, Richmond Road Baptist Church identifies as an “independent, landmark, sovereign grace, missionary New Testament Baptist Church,” as reported by CNN. Over 800 sermons from its pastor, Jerry Gumm, are available on the church’s website.

At the time of the shooting, a sermon was being live-streamed on Facebook. During the church service, Pastor Jerry had mentioned death approximately ten times.

Beverly’s final post on Facebook came two days before the shooting. On July 11, she shared an image with a motivational quote that encouraged perseverance, emphasizing the importance of continuing forward regardless of emotions or circumstances.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Rachael Barnes took to Facebook to express her sorrow over the loss of her mother and sister. In one post, she wrote that she loved her mother, Beverly, and her younger sister, Christina, adding that she could not believe the situation was real.

In another post, she reflected on her final moments with her mother, stating she would not have left her side had she known it would be their last day together, sharing the message alongside a photo of the two of them.

Rachael also revealed that her mother had once written a book at her request. The book was filled with stories about Beverly’s children, friends, and family. She explained that she wanted the book as a way to stay connected to her mother after she passed.

She recalled telling her mother that she would need her advice once she was gone. Beverly completed the book last year. Rachael said she never imagined she would be reading it so soon.

According to a post on Rachael’s Facebook account, Christina has left behind her husband, Randy Combs, and five children. She worked at Saint Joseph Hospital and was studying to be a nurse, set to graduate in December.

Fundraisers have been launched for both victims on spotfund.com. As of July 14, more than $1,000 of a $5,000 goal has been raised for Beverly, while over $700 has been raised toward a $10,000 goal for Combs. Additional donations are expected.

Several state leaders addressed the shooting on social media. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear confirmed there were multiple incidents in Lexington involving one suspect, including a trooper-involved shooting and a separate shooting at the church. He added that the injured individuals were receiving care at a local hospital.

Congressman Andy Barr stated that he was praying for the injured trooper and all those hurt at the Richmond Road Baptist Church. He said he was monitoring the situation closely and thanked the state police and first responders for their efforts.

Senator Rand Paul also commented on the incident, expressing sadness over the shootings at both locations. He shared that he and his wife, Kelley, were praying for the victims, the trooper, and their families. He also emphasized that violence has no place in Kentucky.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident as the community grapples with the aftermath of the violence.

My SIL Made My Mom Sleep on a Mat in the Hallway During a Family Trip

They say family is everything. But sometimes, family can break your heart in ways strangers never could. My name is Sharon, and I’m about to tell you how my sister-in-law turned what should’ve been a beautiful family vacation into the most humiliating experience of my mother’s life.

The whole thing started three weeks ago when my brother’s wife, Jessica, came bouncing into our lives with her latest grand plan. She’d found this “absolutely perfect” lake house in Asheville for what she called a “family bonding vacation.”

“It has six bedrooms, Sharon! A private dock, hot tub, everything we could possibly need!” she gushed over the phone. “All we need is $500 per person for our share.”

I should’ve known something was off when she mentioned she wouldn’t be paying since she was the “organizer.” But my mother, Meryl, was so excited about spending time with everyone. And my brother, Peter, seemed happy that his wife was finally making an effort with our family.

“Oh, Sharon, it’ll be wonderful!” Mom beamed when I called to check on her. “I haven’t had a real vacation in years.”

My heart ached hearing the hope in her voice. Mom had worked herself to the bone raising Peter and me after Dad died. Double shifts at the diner, night classes to get her nursing degree, and she never once complained about the sacrifices she made.

She deserved this vacation more than anyone.

“You’re going to have the best time, Mom,” I told her, and I meant it.

Then everything fell apart. Two days before the trip, my seven-year-old son came down with a fever that spiked to 103 degrees.

I called Jessica, my hands shaking as I held the thermometer.

“I’m so sorry, but I can’t make it. Tommy’s really sick, and I need to stay with him.”

“Oh!” Her voice was flat and amused. “Well, I guess we’ll just have to manage without you.”

No concern for my son. No offer to postpone. Just irritation.

“Alright, Jess. Have a great vacation then!”

“Oh, dear… should I really go? I can come over if you want,” Mom said, her voice full of concern when I told her about Tommy.

“No, Mom, you need to unwind. It’s just a bit of a fever… I can manage.”

“You sure, honey?”

“Yes. Hundred percent yes.”

So, she left that morning, practically glowing with excitement. “Give my little grandson a kiss from Grandma!” she chirped on the phone.

“I will. Have a nice trip, Mom!” I said, hanging up.

The next morning, I called Mom to check in and tell her how Tommy was doing. When she answered the video call, something in her face made my stomach drop.

Her eyes were red-rimmed, her usually perfectly styled hair disheveled. She was sitting in what looked like a narrow hallway, not the cozy bedroom I’d expected.

“Mom? Are you okay?”

She forced a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “Oh, sweetheart, I’m fine. Just didn’t sleep too well last night.”

“Where are you? It looks like you’re in a hallway. Mom? Are you… are you sitting on the floor??”

Her smile faltered. “Well, you know how it is. Everyone got here at different times, and…”

That’s when I saw it. Behind her, barely visible in the frame, was a thin camping mat with a single threadbare blanket. It looked like a cheap rug. No pillow. No privacy. Just a makeshift bed squeezed between a broom closet and a bathroom door.

My fists curled. “Mom, please tell me that’s not where you slept.”

She looked away and whispered. “It’s not so bad, really. The floor’s not too hard.”

I hung up and immediately called Peter. He answered on the first ring, sounding cheerful and relaxed.

“Sharon! How’s Tommy feeling? We’re having such a great time here. The lake is gorgeous, and Jessica’s really outdone herself with…”

“Peter?” My voice cut through his rambling like a blade. “Where is Mom sleeping?”

The silence stretched so long I thought the call had dropped.

“Peter, I asked you a question.”

“Look, Sharon, it’s not ideal, but Jessica said it was first come, first serve. And Mom said she didn’t mind. She’s tough, you know that.”

“She’s sleeping on the floor in a hallway, Peter. While Jessica’s family has actual beds.”

“It’s just for a few nights. She’ll be fine.”

“She’ll be fine? Our mother, who worked three jobs to pay for your college, who gave up her own dreams so we could have ours… and you think she’ll be FINE sleeping on the floor like a dog?”

“You’re being dramatic. It’s not that bad.”

“You’re right, Peter. It’s not that bad. It’s WORSE. You’re a coward, and I’m ashamed to call you my brother.”

I hung up and looked at my son, who was finally sleeping peacefully. His fever had broken an hour ago. I kissed his forehead and called my neighbor.

“Mrs. Kapoor, I know this is last minute, but could you possibly watch Tommy for a few days? Until the weekend? I have a family emergency.”

“Sure, dear. Hope everything’s fine.”

“Yes. Thank you so much.”

Forty-five minutes later, I was in my car, driving toward the lake house with a queen-size air mattress in my trunk and fury in my heart.

I’d never driven so fast in my life. Every mile brought fresh waves of anger and heartbreak. How could Jessica do this to Mom? How could Peter let her?

The lake house was exactly as Jessica had described. Sprawling, beautiful, and expensive. I could hear laughter and music coming from the back deck. They were having a party while my mother slept on the floor.

I found Mom in the kitchen, washing dishes. She looked up when I walked in, and her face crumpled with surprise.

“Sharon! What are you doing here? How’s Tommy?”

“He’s better. Mrs. Kapoor is watching him.” I wrapped her in a hug, and she felt so small and fragile. “Mom, this ends now.”

“Oh, honey, please don’t make a fuss. I don’t want to cause trouble.”

“You’re not causing trouble. You’re my mother, and I love you, and no one treats you like this.”

I took her hand and led her to the hallway where her pathetic sleeping arrangement waited. The mat was so thin I could see the hardwood floor beneath it.

“Give me 30 minutes,” I said, squeezing her hand. “Just 30 minutes, and this will all be fixed.”

I found Jessica’s room easily… the master suite with the lake view and private bathroom. I knocked.

She opened the door wearing a shimmery dress, a glass of wine in her hand, looking like she hadn’t a care in the world.

“Sharon! What a surprise. I thought you couldn’t make it.”

“We need to talk.”

Her eyes narrowed when she saw the air mattress under my arm. “What’s that for?”

“This is for YOU… for what you did to MY MOTHER! You know, the woman who’s been sleeping on the floor while you slept on a cozy bed like a queen.”

“Now wait just a minute…”

“No, you wait.” I pushed past her into the room. “You made my mother sleep in a hallway. My mother, who raised the man you married. Who welcomed you into our family with open arms. Who worked herself to the bone so her children could have better lives.”

Jessica’s face flushed red. “This is my room. I organized this whole trip.”

“With our money. $500 each, remember? Including the $500 my mother paid for the privilege of sleeping on the floor.”

I started gathering Jessica’s designer luggage, expensive skincare products, and a mini-fridge full of wine.

“You can’t do this!” she shrieked. “Peter! Peter, get in here!”

Peter appeared in the doorway, looking confused and worried. “Sharon? What are you…? What’s going on?”

“Your wife is about to learn what it feels like to sleep on the floor,” I said, continuing to pack her belongings.

“Sharon, please, let’s talk about this rationally.”

“Rationally?” I whirled around to face him. “Is it rational that our 62-year-old mother is sleeping next to a mop closet? Is it rational that you’ve let your wife treat Mom like she’s nothing?”

“I didn’t know it was this bad.”

“Because you didn’t bother to check. You’re too busy being Jessica’s lapdog to remember who raised you.”

Jessica tried to block the door. “I’m not sleeping outside!”

“Then you can have the hallway. I’m sure it’s good enough for you since it was good enough for Mom.”

I finished packing her things and dragged them into the hallway. “You have two choices, Jessica. The hallway or the patio. But this room belongs to my mother now.”

When I brought Mom to the master suite, she stood in the doorway with tears streaming down her face.

“Oh, Sharon, you shouldn’t have…”

“Yes, I should have. I should have done this years ago.” I helped her unpack her small suitcase, hanging her few dresses in the spacious closet and rack. “You deserve this room, Mom. You deserve respect… comfort and love.”

Mom sank into the cozy bed with a sigh that broke my heart.

“I can’t remember the last time I slept in a bed this comfortable,” she whispered.

Through the window, I could see Jessica setting up the air mattress on the patio, her face twisted with rage and humiliation.

“How does it feel, Jessica?” I called out. “Not so comfortable, is it?”

The next morning, I woke to find Mom making breakfast for everyone, as always. But this time, she looked rested, happy, and dignified.

“Good morning, Mom,” I said, kissing her cheek. “Did you sleep well?”

“Better than I have in weeks, dear.”

Jessica’s relatives were packing up, muttering about “family drama” and “uncomfortable situations.” One of her cousins stopped by the kitchen.

“That was incredible what you did,” she said. “Jessica’s had it coming for years.”

By noon, half the party had left. Jessica found me on the dock, where I was helping Mom put sunscreen on her shoulders.

“You embarrassed me in front of everyone,” she hissed.

I stood up slowly, meeting her eyes. “Good. Now you know how my mother felt sleeping on the floor.”

“This isn’t over.”

“Yes, it is. Because if you ever… and I mean ever disrespect my mother again, what happened last night will seem like a tea party.”

She stomped away, and Mom reached for my hand.

“You didn’t have to do that for me, Sharon.”

“Yes, I did. Because you’re my mother, and you’re worth fighting for.”

We stayed for the rest of the weekend, and it was the best vacation Mom had ever had. She swam in the lake, sat on the dock with her feet in the water, and slept in a real bed every night.

Jessica barely spoke to us, but I didn’t care. Some battles are worth fighting, and some people are worth everything.

As we packed to leave, Mom hugged me tight. “Thank you for seeing me, Sharon. Thank you for making me matter.”

“Mom, you’ve always mattered. You matter more than anything.”

***

Family isn’t about blood or marriage certificates. It’s about love, respect, and standing up for the people who matter most. My mother spent her whole life taking care of everyone else. It was time someone took care of her.

Justice tastes better when it’s served with love, a queen-size bed, and the knowledge that some fights are worth having. Sometimes the people who love us most are the ones who will fight the hardest battles for us. And that’s exactly what family should be.

Here’s another story: Every family’s got that one relative who treats your home like a free Airbnb. When mine showed up empty-handed again on the 4th of July, I served something they didn’t see coming.

Haunted Annabelle doll’s location finally revealed following frenzied speculation over whereabouts

The location of the infamous ‘haunted’ Annabelle doll has been revealed following frenzied speculation about its whereabouts.

In recent days, social media was flooded with claims that the ‘demonically possessed’ Raggedy Ann doll had gone missing, causing horror buffs to become concerned.

The Raggedy Anne Doll’s paranormal legend dates back to the 1970s when it was apparently given as a gift to nurse in Hartford, Connecticut, before it began exhibiting disturbing behavior.

Annabelle was thought to be possessed by the spirit of a dead child and was said to move on her own, leave terrifying handwritten notes and even allegedly attacked someone.

The case caught the attention of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren who concluded Annabelle was being manipulated by a demonic entity – and the doll later became the subject of The Conjuring films.

Due to her popularity, the real Annabelle doll was removed from the secured case she was displayed in and was included as part of a traveling US exhibition Devils on the Run which began touring earlier this month.

But recently, fans began to speculate the doll had escaped from her box during the tour hosted by the New England Society for Psychic Research, per The Independent.

However, after countless rumors and terrified fans, the society’s lead investigator Dan Rivera has finally come forward to debunk the theories in a TikTok video.

The location of the infamous ‘haunted’ Annabelle doll has been revealed following frenzied speculation about its whereabouts

‘I’m here at the museum right now, and I just wanna show you guys that Annabelle is in the Warrens’ Occult Museum. Let’s go inside and let’s check,’ he began the video.

As he weaved his way through he exhibits, he approached the doll sitting in her secured wooden case.

‘Annabelle is not missing. She is not in Chicago.’

He added: ‘She has never been missing.’

However, Dan did advise horror fans that they would get the chance to see the ‘possessed’ toy at the Rock Island Roadhouse Esoteric Expo in Illinois on October 4.

The New England Society for Psychic Research also posted on their Facebook to assure fans: ‘It’s a rumor… Annabelle has NOT been stolen. The doll is safely in place at the Warren Occult Museum.’

With all of the rumors circulating and the tour still underway, one haunted doll collector – who houses 54 ‘spirits’ – argued the doll should not be taken on tour.

In other Annabelle news, this wasn’t the first time the terrifying doll has caused panic online.

In 2020, Tony Spera, the son-in-law of Ed and Lorraine Warren, also had to clear up rumors of her escape.

The case caught the attention of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren who concluded Annabelle was being manipulated by a demonic entity – and the doll later became the subject of The Conjuring films (pictured)

‘I’m here to tell you something, I don’t know if you want to hear this or not, but Annabelle did not escape,’ Spera said in a selfie video as he dramatically turned his camera to bring the infamous doll into view behind him.

He added: ‘Annabelle’s here. She didn’t go anywhere. She didn’t take a trip. She didn’t fly first class and she didn’t go out to visit her boyfriend,’ he said as he showed Annabelle in her glass case.

‘So here she is. Let’s put the rumors to rest, guys.

‘I appreciate all the concern. I’d be concerned if Annabelle really did leave because she’s nothing to play with.’

The Warrens took the doll into their care and placed it inside a sealed glass case in their Occult Museum, where it has remained under lock and key- until recently. Though the museum in Monroe, Connecticut, remains closed to the public, Annabelle is currently on a national tour, part of

the “Devils on the Run” exhibit.
