First immigrants from America arrive in 'world's worst prison' after Trump 'defies judge's ruling'

The immigrants have been accused of being part of a notorious Venezuelan gang

Donald Trump was in high spirits on Sunday (16 March) after a plane touched down in El Salvador carrying suspected members of a Venezuelan gang.

An order was passed by the Trump administration to send 238 supposed criminals to a mega-prison in El Salvador, despite a federal judge ruling against the order.

However, this decision was made when the plane was already in international airspace, with the administration denying it had disobeyed anyone.

Trump was able to deport the alleged members of Tren de Aragua due to an 18th century law which was intended for wartime, as the US government claimed the country was facing an ‘invasion’ from a criminal organisation that had ties to kidnapping, contract killings and other organised crimes.

The immigrants were swiftly taken to El Salvador’s maximum security Terrorism Confinement Centre (CECOT) after a deal was struck between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Salvadoran President, Nayib Bukele.

The facility, which was opened in 2023, is one of the largest prisons in the world which currently houses tens of thousands of people accused of having gang affiliations.

Bukele took to social media to share pictures and videos of the inmates as they were handcuffed and herded off the plane to a highly-guarded convoy.

He wrote that the ‘first 238 members of the Venezuelan criminal organisation’ had landed and that ‘the United States will pay a very low fee for them, but a high one for us.’

Bukele added on Twitter: “As always, we continue advancing in the fight against organized crime. But this time, we are also helping our allies, making our prison system self-sustainable, and obtaining vital intelligence to make our country an even safer place. All in a single action.

“May God bless El Salvador, and may God bless the United States.”

The inmates’ heads were shaved by guards, as the presence of the alleged criminals in the US was blamed on Joe Biden and the Democrats by Trump, who took to Truth Social to confirm the move.

He wrote: “These are monsters sent into our Country by Crooked Joe Biden and the Radical Left Democrats. How dare they!”

The 78-year-old went on: “Thank you to El Salvador, and in particular President Bukele, for your understanding of this horrible situation, which was allowed to happen to the United States because of Democrat leadership.

“We will not forget.”

Trump denies any wrongdoing amid judge’s ruling

The Trump administration denied that it violated a court order by deporting the Venezuelan immigrants, as White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt released a statement.

She claimed that federal courts ‘have no jurisdiction’ over the president’s foreign affairs.

The statement added: “A single judge in a single city cannot direct the movements of an aircraft carrier full of foreign alien terrorists who were physically expelled from US soil.”

Rubio has since claimed in another statement that ‘hundreds of violent criminals were sent out of our country’, adding: “I want to express my sincere gratitude to President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador for playing a pivotal role in this transfer.”

Meanwhile, Trump has gone as far as claiming that the Tren de Aragua gang has ties to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The president’s order means that any Venezuelan citizen that’s 14 or older within the US that’s determined to be a member of the gang can be ‘apprehended, restrained, secured, and removed as Alien Enemies.’

He claims the gang has been involved in ‘mass illegal migration’ to the nation, aiming to cause harm to citizens.

In defence of his order, the president stated: “Over the years, Venezuelan national and local authorities have ceded ever-greater control over their territories to transnational criminal organizations, including TdA.

“The result is a hybrid criminal state that is perpetrating an invasion of and predatory incursion into the United States, and which poses a substantial danger to the United States.”

‘A concrete and steel pit’

As for the prison, CECOT is known for its inhumane conditions, as an overcrowded facility where violence is ever-present and inmates face harsh treatment, crammed in their cells.

Food on offer is minimal, with items like beans and pasta available, while inmates are made to fight over food and water.

Miguel Sarre, a former member of the United Nations Subcommittee for the Prevention of Torture, previously described the prison as a ‘concrete and steel pit’.

How Donald Trump's new tariffs will affect people living in the UK

How Donald Trump’s new tariffs will affect people living in the UK

How Donald Trump's new tariffs will affect people living in the UK

Trump seems to be starting a trade war with pretty much everyone

On Wednesday (12 March) the US imposed a blanket 25 percent tariff on all imports of steel and aluminium.

Back in 2018, Donald Trump had imposed sweeping tariffs of 25 percent for steel and 10 percent for aluminium, but there had been exceptions made for many countries that the US had been allied with.

However, all of the exclusions have since gone and the tariffs have been applied to every country, including the UK.

There had been hopes that the UK would maintain its exception from being hit with the measure but it wasn’t to be.

If you’re wondering what this all means, why it’s happening and how it’ll impact the UK then let us tell you all about it.

How do tariffs work?

Tariffs are taxes imposed by a country on things it imports from other countries.

This makes importing goods from other countries more expensive, so while a country can use it to raise some money, what it’s most often used for is to make foreign goods more expensive and encourage people to buy from domestic sources.

Tariffs tend to be paid by those who import the goods, so while Trump’s tariffs will affect goods from other countries it’ll be those in the US buying them who’ll have to pay the tariff.

In general those having to pay tariffs won’t just absorb the extra cost but instead raise their prices, so those buying goods from abroad that have to pay new tariffs on them will likely turn around and pass those costs onto their customers.

What has Trump placed tariffs on in the UK?

He’s put various different tariffs on various different countries, but as far as the UK is concerned the US has hit steel and aluminium with a 25 percent tariff.

Unfortunately we can’t get around the latter one by saying that the US calls it ‘aluminum’.

These tariffs cover not just raw material trade with the US but products made with these metals.

Think of the things that have steel or aluminium in them, if you want to sell those to the US it’s now going to be subject to tariffs.

How does that affect the UK?

The BBC reports that the UK sold about £470 million worth of raw steel and aluminium to the US last year.

However, since the tariffs extend to products made with the metals it’s thought that another £2.2bn worth of goods will be covered by the new measures.

That’s not much of the around £58 billion of goods the UK exports to the US on an annual basis, but the impact may be felt by those businesses that specifically work with steel and aluminium.

While it won’t be UK companies exporting these goods to the US that directly pay the costs of the tariffs, it will likely make British products more expensive in the US market and thus less appealing.

In essence, British companies that sell steel and aluminium to the US are going to be impacted, and then other companies that are connected with them are also likely to feel it.

Chairman of the Business and Trade Committee Liam Byrne said that Trump’s tariffs were ‘double trouble’ for the UK.

He claimed that in addition to impacting hundreds of millions of pounds worth of steel and aluminium sales to the US the tariffs would ‘also risk swamping the UK with over-subsidised Chinese steel diverted from America’.

William Bain, head of trade policy for the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), told LADbible Trump’s tariffs would usher in a ‘new age of uncertainty’ that would make for a ‘really worrying and uncertain time’.

“Things like tinfoil, a sofa that’s got a steel frame in it, construction materials that have steel plus a concrete element in it…it’s goods that have steel in them which are now affected as well,” he said.

“So there’s a big range of companies affected by it, and it is a concern.

“Things will correct themselves over time. Companies are putting strategies in place, they’ll look at diversifying trade as well. So they’ll adjust, but it could be a painful few weeks or months ahead.”

Why is Trump doing this?

In theory going protectionist over steel and aluminium will help protect US businesses in this industry from competition that comes from abroad.

The US imports lots of steel and aluminium and Trump may want to shift things more towards domestic production.

Reuters reports that around a quarter of all steel and about half of all aluminium used in the US is imported.

He also seems to be a big fan of tariffs in general, having applied them to various countries since starting his second term in the White House.

He also seems to think that the US is getting a bad deal from their current trade agreements.

Writing on his Truth Social platform he said: “The US doesn’t have Free Trade. We have ‘Stupid Trade’. The Entire World is RIPPING US OFF!!!”

When he addressed congress earlier this month he said: “Tariffs are about making America rich again and making America great again. And it’s happening and it will happen rather quickly.

“There will be a little disturbance, but we’re ok with that.”

Trump has also suggested that the income from tariffs could replace income tax in the US, which is quite unlikely.

The US imports about $3 trillion worth of goods a year and collects about raises about $2 trillion in income tax a year, and experts have said that it would take ‘implausibly high’ tariffs to even come close to replacing income tax and pointed out that it would be ‘literally impossible’ to achieve since people wouldn’t want to buy goods with these astoundingly high tariffs on them.

Plus the costs would still be passed onto the general public anyway, so it wouldn’t save average people any money at all.

Unlike some other countries, the UK has not yet hit back at the US over tariffs and is trying to sign a trade deal (Carl Court - Pool/Getty Images)

How has the UK government responded?

While other countries have responded to tariffs and threats of tariffs from the US by imposing restrictions of their own, the UK has thus far not responded to Trump’s tariffs.

When the EU put a reciprocal tariff on US goods including bourbon, Trump threatened to impose a 200 percent tariff on champagne and other wines from the EU.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said it was ‘pragmatic’ not to hit back at the US, saying that the UK was discussing the possibility of a wider scope trade deal with the US that would remove tariffs as part of an agreement.

He said: “Obviously I’m disappointed to see tariffs, global tariffs, in relation to steel and aluminium.

“But I’m going to take a pragmatic response to this, because we are negotiating and talking about an economic deal and agreement as we speak.

“Of course, in the end, all options are on the table, but my response is to keep my feet on the ground, to be pragmatic, to keep ensuring that we keep our eyes on the prize.

“The prize is not a tariff war, which I don’t think is going to be in our interests.

“The prize is an economic agreement or deal, if we can reach that, that actually covers tariffs and much more besides.”

Secret hidden meaning behind heartbreaking ending of Netflix series Adolescence revealed by director

Each episode is one continuous take, but it’s how it all ends that matters here

Warning: Spoilers for the ending of Adolescence discussed below, read on at your own risk!

Seriously, if you haven’t watched Adolescence yet then you should put down whatever device you’re reading this on (probably your phone) and watch it.

The series, co-created and co-written by Jack Thorne and acclaimed actor Stephen Graham, has been picking up rave reviews for the Netflix series where each episode is filmed in one continuous take.

Adolescence tells the story of 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper), who is arrested for murdering a classmate at school.

Graham plays Eddie Miller, Jamie’s dad, who must grapple with the accusations directed towards his son in a performance that’s got people saying he’s the ‘greatest British actor of all time’.

The Netflix show has a perfect record with the critics on Rotten Tomatoes and this really is your last chance to duck out before spoilers discussing the ending appear on your screen.

Ready to read on? Alright.

Chatting with Netflix’s Tudum, Adolescence director Philip Barantini spoke about that heartbreaking ending where Eddie has to come to terms with the fact that his son really did murder his classmate.

The director said that Eddie was supposed to get into his son’s bed and pull the covers over him, but instead they decided the final scene just needed that little extra oomph where he tucked in his son’s teddy bear and apologised to it.

He said: “We rehearsed it, and it was great. But I just felt like there’s something about him tucking in Jamie’s teddy.

“This is the only thing that Eddie’s got that he can touch – that’s malleable, that Jamie’s cuddled, and Jamie’s been with. And then Stephen made it his own.”

As Adolescence ends, the song ‘Through the Eyes of a Child’ is heard, and the voice singing it is Emilia Holliday who played Katie, the classmate Jamie killed.

“Katie is a part of the whole series, her presence is always there,” the director said of the decision to end the series with her voice.

Barantini also said that to really crank up the emotions in the final scene, they printed out happy family photos of Stephen Graham, his wife Hannah Walters and their children and stuck them in the wardrobe in Jamie’s bedroom set along with the message: “We love you. We’re so proud of you.”

These photos don’t appear on camera but Graham saw them and said that the pictures ‘got me to the core’.

Barantini added: “If you watch the scene closely, he looks over to the right-hand side, and he spots the pictures and the notes. It broke him open.

“The other takes before that were very different. They were all still incredibly emotional. But that last take, which we used, was real, raw, and unexpected from him as well.”

James Buckley and Joe Thomas exclusively spoke to LADbible ahead of the Comic Relief special

When an Oasis-esque graphic dropped on Comic Relief’s Instagram over the weekend, fans quickly began to spiral into speculation over what it could mean.

Excitement quickly ramped up for a Gallagher-themed announcement while some even joked it was the doomsday for the brothers to split up again.

But it’s actually the reunion of another iconic pair as LADbible can exclusively announce James Buckley and Joe Thomas as Liam and Noel in Oasis: The Reunion: The Movie.

Complete with some serious brows, slightly dodge Manchester accents and a staple parka, the pair have got together for a very special Comic Relief sketch.

Probably a little less serious and a whole lot funnier than what Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is whipping up for the actual brothers’ tour, James and Joe will also be joined by a host of stars as they replicate those famous faces.

Announcing the Red Nose Day sketch today (17 March), this exclusive first look photo is undeniably a comically uncanny mirror of the one shared by Oasis when they announced their reunion last year.

And it’s been an ‘amazing’ thing for the pair to get to do – especially James.

“I don’t think I’ve made any secret of the fact that I’m an Oasis super fan,” he says. “So, getting to be Liam Gallagher for the day is my ultimate fantasy really.”

Although, there’s been one big hurdle for the stars – those pesky, unshakeable, Gallagher brother essential, Manc accents.

“I’m not good at any northern accents, not good at accents whatsoever – I can barely do my own,” James jokes.

The cast had a group meeting to help create the sketch so people could ‘throw out some ideas’ and while he usually ‘never has any ideas’, he figured he needed to chip in.

“The only thing I did say was that we need to maybe include a joke that acknowledges how bad the accents are.”

Although, Joe says that’s not been helpful for him, as his accent is even worse than James’.

Questionable accents aside, though, it’s been a bit of a treat for the stars to do an Oasis and have their own little reunion for Comic Relief – and is of course a treat for us fans too.

They do admit it’s ‘weird’ being back together again but they’re both ‘used to it’ and used to each other’s weirdness.

“I love how weird you are, and any excuse to do something with you, I’m always up for,” James tells his co-star, who adds: “We don’t really get an opportunity to.”

Well, even if we’ll have to keep waiting for that reunion, at least we’ve got the two of them back together for this upcoming Comic Relief sketch.

And ramping up the funny, they’ll be joined by an impressive list of cameos from Vernon Kay, Mickey Flanagan, Melvin Odoom, Tasha Ghouri, Martin Lewis, Roisin Conaty, Hugh Dennis and even Piers Morgan will be popping up as a Ticketmaster villain.

Cosmonaut’s chilling last words in final transmission as he fell from space

Cosmonaut's chilling last words in final transmission as he fell from space

Vladimir Komarov became the first human to die in a space flight

Russian cosmonaut Vladimir Komarov was allegedly struggling to operate his spacecraft before dying on re-entry to Earth in 1967.

Although the names of original Moon-landers Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin are synonymously attached to the vast dark surrounding our planet, Komarov also entered the explorative history books by becoming the first human to lose his life on a spaceflight all those years ago.

A month after his 40th birthday, Komarov manned a 24-hour solo orbit of Earth in the Soyuz 1 test flight, which completed 16 orbits before a parachute failure caused his capsule to smash into the ground and explode.

This unfortunate ‘man who fell from space’ recorded one final transmission that will chill you to the core.

The two solar panels of the Soyuz 1 failed to fully deploy upon orbital insertion, which consequently obscured parts of Komarov’s navigation equipment.

He needed to orient his ship to the Sun, but failed to do so after a number of attempts.

To make matters worse, the craft was transmitting unreliable status details and lost radio communication with the Soviets on the ground.

Later, Komarov was ordered to reorient himself using ion flow sensors, but they failed and he didn’t have enough time to manually reenter until his 19th orbit.

He successfully re-entered Earth’s atmosphere only to find that a main braking parachute wasn’t working as it should. At ridiculous speed, his ship landed without any air resistance and killed him on impact.

Interestingly, US listening posts situated in Turkey caught Komarov’s final and furious conversation with a high-ranking official of the Soviet Union, Alexei Kosygin, which was controversially published in the 2011 book Starman by Jamie Doran and Piers Bizony.

“This devil ship! Nothing I lay my hands on works properly!” he’s said to have cried.

Conversely, an official transcript of their devastating exchange from the Russian State Archive claims that one of the last things Komarov told Kosygin was: “I feel excellent, everything’s in order. Thank you for transmitting all of that. [Separation] occurred.”

In Doran and Bizony’s historical account, it’s also suggested that the late astronaut’s ship harboured over 200 structural problems that were known before it took off on the mission.

Komarov’s backup pilot, the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin, allegedly argued for their mission to be postponed.

Sadly, Komarov tragically plummeted to the ground and was killed in an explosion on 24 April, 1967.

According to reports, his charred remains resembled a ‘lump’ and only his heel bone was recognisable.

Jenna Ortega has previously worked with a beloved Marvel hero

Death of a Unicorn star Jenna Ortega has a little-known history with Marvel Studios.

Prior to her breakout performances in the Scream franchise and Netflix’s Wednesday (which soon returns for season two), Ortega brushed shoulders with some of the biggest stars of the superhero franchise.

The actor’s minor Marvel character appears approximately 90 minutes into the 2013 blockbuster, which was directed by Shane Black.

While chatting to Entertainment Tonight recently, the 22-year-old discussed why she’s unlikely to rejoin the MCU as the same unnamed character.

“I’m hoping that we can create this world where we can get Jenna Ortega into the Marvel universe,” said the interviewer.

The star replied: “I did it once, it was one of the first jobs I ever did.

“They took all my lines out. I’m in Iron Man 3 for a quick second. I take up the frame. I have one leg, and I’m the vice president’s daughter.”

Yes, Ortega starred alongside Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, Don Cheadle, and Rebecca Hall in Iron Man 3.

Also sitting down with the publication was her Death of a Unicorn colleague Paul Rudd, who took it upon himself to big up Ortega for a grand return to the world of superheroism.

“Marvel is very good at kind of laying those breadcrumbs, so it might very well be that you come back,” he said. “They’re gonna create something for you! ‘Cause they should be so lucky to have Jenna Ortega in their franchise.”

She seemed pretty unconvinced, though, pointing out: “They even took my name away. I count that [as my MCU appearance] and then I move on.”

Over on social media, Ortega’s Marvel moment turned into some kind of revelation for many of her fans.

“Damnnn, that’s rough imagine getting a role in a huge franchise just to have your lines and even your name cut out. idk the whole story, but Jenna Ortega has already proven she can carry major roles. anddd she’s doin just fine carving her own path too,” read one reaction on X.

A second person highlighted the fact that Michelle Yeoh ‘had a small cameo role in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and the came back as a different character in Shang Chi [and the Legend of the Ten Rings]’.

More to the point, Downey Jr is portraying supervillain Doctor Doom in the next Avengers movies after spending years in the Iron Man suit, so it seems anything’s possible.

Everything Christian Bale has said about The Dark Knight return in Batman role

The actor has revealed what it would take to bring him back for another Christopher Nolan Batman film

When it comes to iconic characters, everyone has a face in their head that they attach to them.

For James Bond I see Daniel Craig, for Superman I see Christopher Reeves, and for Batman, like many, I see Christian Bale.

The actor starred in three films, all directed by Christopher Nolan, and despite the fantastic film starring Robert Pattinson, Bale is still Bruce Wayne for many.

The most iconic of the films, The Dark Knight, was announced today to be rereleased in IMAX later this year.

As always however, interest is always high in seeing whether Bale will return to the role – and he has opened up about it.

What has Christian Bale said about returning as Batman?

Where many stay tight lipped about what it would take to bring them back to certain roles, Christian Bale has been very open about what would get him back.

The actor starred in just the three films and has not been back yet, despite Warner Brothers’ almost certainly having asked and offered a boatload of money.

Instead, the actor said of a possible return in an interview with Screenrant in 2022: “I had a pact with Chris Nolan. We said, ‘Hey, look. Let’s make three films, if we’re lucky enough to get to do that’. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.”

He went on to say: “In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell’. And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.”

That then asks a very obvious next question.

What has Christopher Nolan said about returning for a fourth Batman film?

Nolan directed the films, co-writing the screenplays with his brother Jonathan Nolan.

Despite going on to create the highly successful Fallout show, Jonathan seems open to the idea of another Dark Knight, calling it a ‘dream’, which might indicate that there might be a world in which we get another.

He said: “That period was about 10 years of my life when I got the call to go work on Batman Begins to putting out The Dark Knight Rises – it was epic.

“If I had the chance to go and work on that again, then absolutely.”

Nolan, however, doesn’t share his brother’s optimism.

The director when asked if he’d work on another, and gave a blunt answer by simply saying ‘no’.

Whilst it seems that is that, weirder things can happen and opinions can always change with time.

For now though, fans will simply be looking forward to the director’s upcoming film The Odyssey, which has one of the most stacked Hollywood cast lists in years.

Elon Musk makes huge prediction as he confirms SpaceX will send Starship to Mars next year

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has shared a huge update in his mission to have humans step foot on Mars

Elon Musk has made a bold statement about the future of humanity and has mapped out a plan for space travel.

Whether you like it or not, the businessman has a hand in some of the most influential organisations in the world, even being made a senior advisor to President Donald Trump.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has previously spoken of his ambition to get one million people to live on Mars in the future and has posted on social media several times about taking the Red Planet over.

But now, it looks like he’s taking a big step in that direction.

Humans have never set foot on Mars, but Musk and SpaceX have set a goal to get over this obstacle by the dawn of the next decade.

He took to X yesterday (15 March), to confirm that SpaceX’s Starship will be heading to Mars at the end of 2026.

The ship will be carrying Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus.

Musk said that, if everything goes to plan, we could set foot on the planet as soon as 2029.

Writing to his followers, the tech billionaire said: “Starship departs for Mars at the end of next year, carrying Optimus.

“If those landings go well, then human landings may start as soon as 2029, although 2031 is more likely.”

On SpaceX’s official website, it reads: “Starship is the world’s most powerful launch vehicle ever developed, capable of carrying up to 150 metric tonnes fully reusable and 250 metric tonnes expendable.”

The official account of Optimus responded to the announcement, saying: “Hold on.”

Musk was even spotted wearing an ‘Occupy Mars’ t-shirt in the White House recently and has never been shy to hide his goal of inhabiting the planet one day.

A quote from the entrepreneur on the official SpaceX webpage sums it up: “I can’t think of anything more exciting than going out there and being among the stars.”

His goal to make the human race ‘multi-planetary’ is in motion, with SpaceX also making strides to become one of the biggest space technology companies in the world.

The company worked with NASA to carry out the rescue mission to get stranded astronauts Sunita ‘Suni’ Williams and Barry ‘Butch’ Wilmore back home.

The pair have been on the International Space Station (ISS) since June 2024.

After heading up for what was meant to be an eight-day mission, technical issues with the Boeing Starliner spacecraft meant it was not safe for them to return.

Their return mission has been delayed several times, but early this morning (16 March), a Space X capsule docked at the ISS, with Wilmore and Williams set to head back to our planet on Wednesday (19 March).

Scientist made worrying discovery when reaching the deepest point in the sea

Now here’s something you weren’t expecting to see at the bottom of the ocean

An image captured from the bottom of the Mariana Trench went viral after a scientist made a chilling discovery on the sea floor.

Situated 35,000 ft (11,000 metres) below sea level is the Challenger Deep, which sits at the southern end of Pacific Ocean’s Mariana Trench and is believed to be the deepest point of the Earth’s oceans.

To put that figure into context, a building would have to be the equivalent of between 28 Empire State Buildings in order to reach the ocean’s surface.

Or 13 Burj Khalifas, 36 Eiffel Towers, and so on and so forth.

In-fact, you could even plonk Mount Everest at the bottom of Challenger Deep and it still wouldn’t reach the surface.

After all, it didn’t earn the name of Challenger Deep for no reason.

As of 2022, only 27 people have made the descent into Challenger Deep, a list which includes Titanic film director James Cameron.

Another person to make the descent is oceanographer Dr Dawn Wright, who successfully navigated to the ocean floor back in 2022 — only to discover that humans have been able to leave their mark on even the most remote places on the planet.

Taking to social media after expedition, Dr Wright shared a photo from the bottom of Challenger Deep and shared her shock after discovering that an empty beer bottle had managed to make it down there.

“What did we see upon 1st touching bottom, at 10,900+m depth w/in #ChallengerDeep? A BEER BOTTLE,” she wrote on X.

“Further evidence that we MUST as humanity do BETTER by the ocean and for the health of habitats that we ourselves share & ultimately depend on!!! #ThereIsNoPlanetB #DeeperSeaDawn.”

Recalling her reaction upon seeing the beer bottle in an interview with Los Angeles Times, Wright explained how disheartening it was to see how human actions were having an impact on some of the most hard to reach places on the planet.

“It had travelled more than 6.7 miles to the darkest depths of the Pacific, label still intact,” she explained.

“This discarded trash had managed to reach an unsullied part of our world before we actually did – a symbol of how deeply and irrevocably humans are affecting the natural world.”

A beer bottle making its way down to the deepest point in the known ocean means that humans have now been able to leave litter at the highest and lowest points of Earth — with Mount Everest previously being called the ‘world’s highest garbage dump’ due to the amount of trash hikers leave up there.

Flight attendant shares true reason cabin crew say hello to you when you board a plane

No, it’s not because they’re feeling chatty

After dashing through the airport to make it to your gate on-time, only to spend the next 20 minutes waiting to be let on the actual plane, and dragging your overstuffed hand luggage up the stairs, you’re probably not paying too much attention to the cabin crew.

But if you were, you’d noticed the crew are stood near the door and ready to welcome every passenger onboard with a warm hello as you pass by and head towards your seat.

So why does this happen? Surely the cabin crew aren’t feeling particularly chatty before having to rattle through the in-flight safety demonstration and argue with passengers why it’s important to sit in their assigned seat.

You’ll therefore be not-so-surprised to learn that cabin crew aren’t feeling chatty when you board the flight, with the greeting being a crafty way of taking stock of the type of passengers travelling.

We’re not joking either, as flight attendant Rania (@itsmekikooooo) explained the action in a viral post on TikTok.

“Your flight attendant greets you, not only out of politeness, but also to check whether you are too drunk or sick to fly,” she explained.

Not only this, checking people out is also to analyse which passengers could help cabin crew in the unfortunate event of an emergency, she added in the video’s description.

This makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

A second flight attendant would also chime in on the debate, sharing a description of the type of person crew would be looking to for help in the event of an emergency.

“We look for anyone who hasn’t got any mobility issues, can speak English, looks like they will be able to open a door and ideally travelling alone,” they wrote.

“That makes you an ABP (able-bodied passenger).”

So if you fit this particular description, don’t be surprised if you’re called on should your journey take an unfortunate turn. Although you’d hope to never be in this situation.

The revelation led several viewers to do an internal review of their behaviour when boarding a plane, with one person commenting: “Me with headphones walking on the plane completely ignoring the flight attendants…”

A second person joked: “Ah okay this makes a lot of sense, I always get the same look going on flights.”

A third user even chimed in that not only where they aware of the rule, but had made sure not to look ‘too sick’ when boarding a flight once. “I had pancreatitis when I was in Corfu, I acted normal going on to the plane; otherwise, I knew they wouldn’t let me on.”
