YouTube channel MetaBallStudios has shared a 3D animation demonstrating just how deep the sea is compared to different lakes and seas

To find out that the deepest known point in the ocean is around 10,935 meters (35,876 feet), frankly, isn’t that interesting.

However, viewers have been left stunned after YouTube channel MetaBallStudios shared a 3D animation of the deepest part of the ocean, using the depth of different lakes and seas.

One person called the video ‘an absolute masterclass in cinema storytelling’ as it demonstrates the deepest known point located in the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean.

For context, the peak of Mount Everest is around 8,848 meters (29,026 feet) above sea level.

One viewer commented: “The deepness is scary. Imagine going out over the deepest point of the Mariana Trench and jumping into the water and just floating for a few minutes.

“Hell no. You are closer to an airliner flying above you than you are to the bottom below you.”

“The human mind really isn’t built to be able to comprehend these kinds of numbers very easily, but your presentations bring it all into perspective,” a second penned.

“When I first heard the deepest part of the ocean is 11km deep it didn’t seem like much,” a third added.

“But when I started watching videos about the ocean, the pressure, the unusual species, it kept getting terrifying. An 11km straight dept into nothing but water is actually unimaginable.”

Journalist James Nestor, who is the author of ‘Deep: Freediving, Renegade Science, and What the Ocean Tells Us about Ourselves’, explained in his 2014 book what it’s really like to be so deep in the water.

“At three hundred feet, we are profoundly changed. The pressure at these depths is nine times that of the surface. The organs collapse,” he wrote.

“The heart beats at a quarter of its normal rate, slower than the rate of a person in a coma. Senses disappear.

“The brain enters a dream state. At six hundred feet down, the ocean’s pressure—some eighteen times that of the surface—is too extreme for most human bodies to withstand.

“Few freedivers have ever attempted dives to this depth; fewer have survived. Where humans can’t go, other animals can.

“Sharks, which can dive below six hundred and fifty feet, and much deeper, rely on senses beyond the ones we know.

“Among them is magnetoreception, an attunement to the magnetic pulses of the Earth’s molten core.”

He noted that ‘eight hundred feet down appears to be the absolute limit of the human body’.

The victim was allegedly kept in sickening conditions for over 20 years

Police have explained why the ‘house of horrors’ victim never told anyone what was happening to him while his stepmum allegedly kept him captive.

The 32-year-old finally escaped the tiny room in Waterbury, Connecticut, he had been locked away in for over 20 years after setting the house on fire in February.

When responders arrived at the scene, he was found in a ‘severely emaciated condition and had not received medical or dental care during this time’. With Kimberly Sullivan evacuating the blaze safely, the man revealed he had started the fire, adding: “I wanted my freedom.”

He went on to accuse the 56-year-old of holding him captive since he was around 11 years old.

Sullivan was arrested earlier this week, facing a number of charges including assault, kidnapping, and unlawful restraint.

Authorities have since revealed more harrowing details of the allegations against her, which she denies.

Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo said in an interview that it’s ‘probably one of the worst acts of inhumanity’ he’s ever seen.

According to the affidavit, when a detective asked the man why he never told anyone what was happening to him, he said he wanted to, but feared ‘the constant threat of longer lock downs and further diminishment of food’.

He recalled how his father used to let him out of the 8-by-9-foot room on weekends and he’d occasionally be allowed to work in the garden.

And after his dad died, Sullivan’s captivity of him allegedly worsened, giving him two sandwiches and the equivalent of two small bottles of water a day.

The affidavit says the man ‘describes a life of being mentally conditioned by the woman’.

“He stated that the threat was that he would ‘not see the light of day’ if he told anyone and, knowing that he had little time out of his room to that point, it was not something he could risk,” it added.

With state officials in 2005 finding a home-schooling plan adequate for the victim, Spagnolo said there wasn’t any contact with law enforcement or other officials in the intervening years.

The chief added that a uncle grew concerned at one point after visiting at Christmas and seeing the stepson looking ‘skinny, meek, and mild-mannered’, with Sullivan intervening when he tried to talk to him.

“The family pushed him [the uncle] away,” Spagnolo said. “He’d ask questions, he tried to reach out over time, but he never received any response.”

He added: “There was a lot of inaction by the people closest to the victim. That’s really hard to judge. We all have families. We all understand how domestic situations work. It seems like this went on for quite a long time and Kimberly was very successful hiding this from the public eye and even her family’s eyes.”

Tim Peake reveals unexpected health impact of being in space as stranded NASA astronauts return delayed

A British astronaut has explained what the stranded astronauts might expect to experience upon their return to Earth

British astronaut Tim Peake has explained the health effects of being stranded in space after news broke of Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore’s return being delayed.

The NASA astronauts stepped foot aboard the International Space Station (ISS) for the first time in June 2024, for what was meant to be an eight-day mission, though they have been left stranded in orbit for nine months.

Williams, 59, and Wilmore, 62, headed up on the Boeing Starliner capsule, which ran into some technical issues, before being deemed unsafe to take the pair back.

After spending close to a year in space, you’d expect a plan to be in place to bring the astronauts back, but this has been delayed (again).

The American space explorers are still looking down at our blue planet and waiting for news on their return, after their original target date of 12 March has come and gone.

President Donald Trump, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and NASA have been working to find a way to bring the astronauts home as soon as possible, after they were meant to return to Earth on Sunday (16 March).

The Crew-10 mission was postponed due to a hydraulic issue, with the next launch window from Florida suggested to be this evening (14 March).

A joint NASA-SpaceX mission, it was intended to fly four crew members to the ISS, allowing Williams and Wilmore to return to normality – and gravity.

SpaceX have since stated that the hydraulics on one of the clamp arms are being looked at by engineers, as they were concerned with whether it would open fully during launch.

While Williams called the ISS her ‘happy place’, before adding she missed her family and dogs, Wilmore also said he was prepared to stay up for months at a time if necessary.

But how much of an effect does staying up in space for that long actually have?

“We’re still finding out about the longterm effects of spaceflight… we do an hour and a half/two hours of fitness as well,” he said about the process.

Peake explained: “But we also know that our skin ages, our eyesight changes and [that] we’re more prone to blood clots.

“These are relatively new things that we’ve found out. I guess the longest effect is the radiation dose, as that’s hard to quantify what the effects will be,” he said.

Speaking about his time onboard the space station, he also added that you get ‘the equivalent of eight chest x-rays a day’ while onboard, highlighting that ‘it’s not trivial’.

Despite being stranded up in space for so long, Williams revealed that she has learnt a lot while on the ISS, especially about our planet.

“It opens up the door to making you think a bit differently,” she said, adding: “It’s the one planet we have and we should be taking care of it.”

Kimberly Sullivan denies the sickening allegations against her

Kimberly Sullivan was arrested earlier this week after a 32-year-old man started a fire to escape and get ‘freedom’.

The victim set the home on fire in February, with responders finding him in a ‘severely emaciated condition’ before he accused the 56-year-old of keeping him captive since he was about 11-years-old.

Sullivan has been charged with assault in the first degree, kidnapping in the second degree, unlawful restraint in the first degree, cruelty to persons, and reckless endangerment in the first degree.

But as sickening details of this case are revealed, the woman has denied all allegations.

While police say the victim feared telling anyone about the situation due to her threats of the consequences, Sullivan was apparently stunned by the accusation.

Her attorney, Ioannis Kaloidis, says she ‘completely maintains her innocence’.

“These allegations are not true. They are outlandish. She was blown away when she heard these allegations,” Kaloidis said, per NBC Connecticut. “We look forward to being able to vindicate her and show that she’s done nothing wrong.”

He also said Sullivan never locked her stepson in a room, calling the allegation ‘absolutely not true’.

As an affidavit describes how the victim was kept in a 8-by-9-foot room with neighbours once spotting a ‘little boy’ in the window, police said: “Detectives determined that the victim had been held in captivity for over 20 years, enduring prolonged abuse, starvation, severe neglect, and inhumane treatment.”

But Kaloidis continued: “She did not restrain him in any way. She provided food, she provided shelter. She is blown away by these allegations. It is shocking and what’s more shocking to me? It’s how somebody can (be) falsely accused of such a thing.”

Sullivan’s attorney claimed her husband (who reportedly passed away in January 2024) dictated how his son would be raised.

Police say the victim’s father was in a wheelchair prior to his death due to medical reasons.

Kaloidis said: “We think as the evidence comes out, you’ll see that she’s not the villain she’s being made out to be, absolutely not.”

The attorney added that the allegations ‘seem to be based on the words of one individual and one individual alone’.

“I did not see anything in the warrant to indicate any independent evidence to corroborate these allegations. We’ll see how they stand up at trial,” he added.

With a police chief saying it is ‘one of the worst acts of inhumanity’ he’s ever seen, Sullivan’s next court date is set for March 26.

Rancho Izaguirre was secretly used as a site for systematic human rights abuses

An ‘extermination camp’ discovered in Jalisco might help uncover what happened to the 120,000 Mexican people who have ‘disappeared’.

Rancho Izaguirre, spanning approximately 10,000 square meters in Teuchitlán, may have been used as a training camp for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

Photos posted online show hundreds of discarded shoes and clothing items, as well as bullet casings from high powered rifles, and even charred bones.

One letter read: “My love, if some day I don’t return, I only ask you to remember how much I love you.”

The Warrior Searchers of Jalisco group, who are on the lookout for the missing Mexicans, uncovered the camp last week after receiving a tip, according to the Los Angeles Times.

However, it remains a mystery why nothing else has been done since the site was first investigated in September 2024.

“It was a tremendous shock,” said group member Raul Servin Garcia.

“The first thought that occurs to you is to hope that no relative — a son, a husband — had ever been in this place, had ever been tortured or murdered there.”

Training areas

The Los Angeles Times reported that the institution was allegedly in operation for over 10 years.

During that time, criminal gang members would coerce people to join the group, training them up to become killers.

Indira Navarro, the leader of the Warrior Searchers group, told the outlet that one woman said she had been held against her will there for three years.

Non-compliance was reportedly met with severe punishment or death.

Detention zones

There were specifically designated areas which would confine abducted individuals.

Testimonies from survivors suggest that new arrivals were often beaten with wooden planks, and any resistance or attempts to escape were met with immediate execution.

One section of the ranch, known as ‘the butcher shop’, was where prisoners were forced to dismember human bodies.

This practice was intended to desensitise individuals from violent activities.

“They didn’t teach us how to do it, so it was up to each person. There is not a day in which I do not think of it and there is not a day in which I am not tormented by it,” a survivor said. “I couldn’t even sleep but, at that moment, I had to do it in order to survive.”

Clandestine crematoriums

The group also discovered cremation furnaces, which are likely to have been used to dispose victims’ bodies. Photos show skeletal remains concealed beneath layers of brick slabs.

“They tortured us every day just to instill fear. The first thing they did once you arrived to the ranch —after taking away your clothes— was to beat you up with wooden planks,” a man who was captured there for two weeks said.

“Once you moved on to real guns there was no excuse to say no. If they sent you to get toilet paper or asked you to torture your partner you had to do it. There were no second chances given,” another added.

Who are the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG)?

The CJNG came into power in Mexico in the late 2000s as a part of the Sinaloa Cartel.

Over the years, they have developed a reputation for aggressive tactics and violent confrontations with Mexican security forces and rival cartels.

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum said: “The first thing we have to do in that case is investigate, because the images are obviously painful, we really need to know what happened there before anything else.

“That’s why it’s important that there is a coordinated investigation, and obviously determining who is responsible.”

Body language expert reveals how Donald Trump 'really feels' about Vladimir Putin in resurfaced footage

Body language expert reveals how Donald Trump ‘really feels’ about Vladimir Putin in resurfaced footage

Body language expert reveals how Donald Trump 'really feels' about Vladimir Putin in resurfaced footage

Donald Trump’s body language has been analysed by an expert in the US President’s last meeting with Vladimir Putin

A body language has analysed a previous meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, explaining how the President actually feels about the Russian leader.

Trump has been in office for less than two months, but we’ve already seen a plethora of changes made by the 78-year-old that will have an effect on the US and the rest of the world.

He’s had a very public argument with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and called out the Irish Prime Minister for ‘taking advantage’ of the US in the past couple of weeks, among his many policy changes.

But now, the President’s seemingly positive relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin has been put under the microscope by a body language expert, who has gone over footage from one of the pair’s past meetings.

Trump has been trying to achieve peace through talks with both Putin and Zelenskyy over their nations’ ongoing conflict, and though Russia first rejected ideas for a ceasefire, Putin has since announced that he ‘absolutely supports’ the idea for one as long as certain conditions are met.

Now, body language expert Judi James spoke to The Mirror after watching Trump’s and Putin’s meeting in Helsinki, Finland, back in 2018.

She described their relationship was ‘complex’ and said that body language ‘can often appear performative’.

“Both men prefer the alpha leadership style, with displays of physical strength passing for political power and status,” she pointed out.

Focusing on Trump, she highlighted that he likes to ‘present himself as cool, sometimes icy’ with the Russian President.

“But when the two men do dig into their meetings the body language can suggest Trump’s desire to discover and display bonds between them and to use vocabulary that sounds intended to imply shared objectives and like-minded decision-making,” she explained.

James went on: “Both also display a capacity for a matching sense of humour that is often apparent in their cues and tie-signs. Humour can feel like the greatest form of bonding glue.

“It is another form of power signalling and Trump and Putin will often throw out hints that suggest their relationship has an unserious facet to it behind the scenes. They discuss sports before politics here as proof of a deeper understanding and rapport.”

However, she summed Trump’s ‘attribution’ face as one showing ‘stubborn firmness’ and ‘superior power’, comparing him to a boxer flexing before a bout.

She added that the US President gave nothing away in front of cameras, even having a ‘grim poker face’.

Apparently, Trump did some ‘power-flexes’ and disregarded Putin’s smile to establish ‘spatial control’.

“His gesture to Putin to sit is an ill-mannered and offhand-looking afterthought and he sits in his classic alpha pose with his hands in a downward power steeple. Once the initial status balance has been established though, Trump becomes instantly more friendly and amicable,” James pointed out.

While Trump gave off a ‘mouth-shrug smile’, Putin didn’t feel the need to show any ice-breaking facial expressions, according to the expert.

In fact, Putin came across ‘relaxed and slightly amused.

James even claimed that the ex-KGB operative studied Trump’s body language, preparing for it and coming across as firm, to the point of being prepared for the US leader’s ‘shake and yank’ handshake.

She concluded: “Overall then, Trump has previously shown a tendency with Putin to be grim-faced and cool to establish some power points at the start and then leak out signals of rapport.

“But Putin can also play a forensic body language game too and his skills always appear to be the more finely-honed and nuanced.”

Parents of relay runner who hit opponent on head with baton says 'truth will be exposed' as daughter is charged

The 18-year-old is facing legal consequences…

The parents of the girl who allegedly hit her opponent during a race in America have vowed to continue their fight after she was charged with battery and assault.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few weeks, you’ve probably seen the viral video which appears to show 18-year-old Alaila Everett striking her opponent Kaelen Tucker with the baton during a race at the Virginia State High School League Championships at Virginia’s Liberty University on 4 March.

The video shows Alaila striking Kaelen, leaving her with a potential skull fracture, before overtaking her and finishing the race.

Kaelen shared her side of the story in a recent interview with 10 News, stating: “When you go to the other side of the track, you have to cross into lane one, you have to merge in. As I was coming up on her, she kind of like made me get cut off a little bit, so I backed away.”

“Then, as we got around the curve, she kept bumping me in my arm. Then finally we got off the curve, I like slowly started passing her and then that’s when she just hit me with the baton and I fell off the track.”

Pretty much all the angles of the race have been studied, and frankly, they don’t look particularly good on Alaila, but she suggested in a tearful interview that it was a complete accident and that she would never intentionally harm an opponent.

The youngster was charged with battery and assault earlier this week after court papers were served, but both she and her parents maintain that it was purely accidental, and insist that ‘the truth will be exposed’.

Posting on social media, Alaila’s father Genoa said: “We will continue to uplift and support our child to the upmost. We as a community will continue to fight for her.

“The truth will be exposed in due time and god’s timing is always perfect. Unity for Alaila.”

Speaking to ABC, the parents added: “It hurts because, man, y’all really picked the wrong child to criminalize like that.

“That’s nowhere near her nature. How would you feel waking up and seeing Gayle King or Good Morning, America talk about you or your daughter and not having the full story?

“You can clearly see in the video they were close,” Genoa said. “So what had happened was it was an illegal cut to my daughter’s lane, which caused the incidental contact.”

Alaila Everett in a recent interview (WAVY TV 10)

Her mum Zeketa Cost added: “Tell them that she did not do this and that she lost her balance. My daughter would never do something like this; she loves everybody. They were in 17th place, there was no need for this.”

While the footage doesn’t paint a good picture for the family, it is also easy to see how an accident could have occurred at such close quarters when running at speed.

There was less doubt about a similar incident in Spain, where one competitor shoved his opponent over the finish line. Needless to say, we won’t be seeing them perform at the Olympic Games anytime soon.

Conor Maynard has revealed the results of a paternity test

Conor Maynard has revealed the results of whether or not he is the father of The Traitors star Charlotte Chilton’s baby.

Taking to social media, the singer said he received confirmation after ‘taking a paternity test’.

“Earlier this week, I took a paternity test regarding Charlotte Chilton’s baby girl, Penelope, in the presence of her legal representative,” the statement shared on Instagram today (14 March) read.

“Today I’ve received the test results which confirm that I am not Penelope’s father.

“I am glad that the speculation can finally be put to an end.

“All I would ask is that people act with kindness in response to this news – there is a child at the heart of all of this and that should not be forgotten.

“I wish Charlotte and her family all the best. Conor.”

It comes after Charlotte announced her pregnancy in April 2024, alleging that Maynard was the father. The pair reportedly met at The Traitors wrap party through mutual connections.

The recruitment manager, who appeared on season two of the BBC show, claimed that Maynard was the father of her unborn baby.

Notably, Charlotte featured alongside winner Harry Clark, who is dating Conor’s younger sister Anna Maynard.

Then in October 2024, Charlotte welcomed her baby girl to the world.

“Princess Penelope has arrived and we have been enjoying our ‘Penelope bubble’ so much, I am going to be off the radar for a little longer, whilst I enjoy these magical moments with my precious girl!!” she wrote on social media at the time.

“Thank you to all that have checked in to make sure I am ok!! My heart is full xx.”

In a post-baby interview with OK!, she revealed that she’s now on good terms with her family.

“We went through a real ‘hate’ phase when I first got pregnant but we’re friends again now and she’s been great,” she said.

“And my mum, well, she’s basically taken on the role of the father. She’ll get the bottles sterilised for me, she’ll take the baby when I need it, she’ll make sure I eat dinner, because it’s so easy to get through the day without eating anything.

“It’s the best diet in the world, looking after a newborn. The weight has come off me.

“And I don’t feel like I’m missing out – people are always coming here and seeing the baby. Everyone’s so proud of me for doing this alone. I’ve got a real village around me.”

Anthony Albanese told Sam Jones she should have chosen an ‘animal that can actually fight back’

Anthony Albanese told shamed content creator Sam Jones that she should pick on someone her own size – or failing that, to try her luck with a crocodile.

The leader, 62, let rip at the influencer – who claims to be a a ‘wildlife biologist and environmental scientist’ – after footage of her ‘outrageous’ act went viral.

Jones posted a video to Instagram showing her picking up a baby wombat from the side of the road as the joey’s panic-struck mother gave chase.

The animal appeared to be distressed in the shocking clip and was seen trying to wriggle away from the influencer while making hissing sounds.

Observing that the wombat’s mother seemed to be ‘p**sed’ about her baby being seized, Jones then placed the animal back on the side of the road.

Australian officials quickly made it clear that the country’s animals are not for amusement while blasting the American for her ‘dreadful’ stunt.

Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke previously said his department was weighing up ‘whether immigration law has been breached’ and were considering revoking her visa.

However, Jones later fled Australia of her own accord – although Burke warned she would struggle to ever enter the nation again, ‘given the level of scrutiny that will happen’.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong also said of Jones actions: “It looked pretty dreadful, didn’t it? Really, leave the wombat alone.”

But it’s Albanese comments which have realy got people talking, as he urged Jones to take on something a bit snappier if she ever fancied interfering with wildlife again.

The Prime Minister said in disgust: “To take a baby wombat from its mother, and clearly causing distress from the mother, is just an outrage.

“I suggest to this so-called influencer, maybe she might try some other Australian animals, take a baby crocodile from its mother and see how you go there.

“Take another animal that can actually fight back, rather than stealing a baby wombat from its mother. See how you go there.”

Jones has since fired back at Albanese and Co in a lengthy statement addressing the controversy, while insisting she is not a ‘villain’.

The influencer claims that she spotted the animals on the side of the road and pulled over to make sure they didn’t get struck by a car.

She explained that she picked up the joey as she became concerned for its welfare when it ‘did not move or run off’ as she approached.

Jones claimed she only ran away from the baby wombat’s mother in ‘fear she might attack’, describing it as a ‘snap judgement’ which she now realises was a mistake.

“I have learned from this situation, and am truly sorry for the distress I have caused,” she said. “I want to make it absolutely clear that this was never about social media or getting likes.

“This was not staged, nor was it done for entertainment,” she added. “In my excitement and concern, I acted too quickly and then failed to provide necessary context to viewers online.”

Jones then slipped in a series of shocking allegations about Aussie politicians and how animals are treated in Australia, while calling out Albanese by name for ‘wishing harm’ on her with his croc comment.

She alleged that the government ‘allows and permits the slaughter of wombats’, which are a legally protected species.

Her savage statement then added: “Your government further spends tens of millions of taxpayer dollars annually to fly around in helicopters and shoot beautiful horses, deer, and pigs out its windows.

“A swift death is often not afforded to these animals.

“[Animal] carcasses are then left on your public lands to rot. Your Snowy River and Kosciuszko National Park brumbys are being slaughtered by the thousands on your dime – speak to your Prime Minister Anthony Albanese about that.”

Further down, she went on to say: “While the Prime Minister wishes harm on me for picking up a wombat, I implore you to take a good, hard look at what is currently being done in Australia surrounding the real issues it faces, the lack of power for tens of thousands of Aussies and the treatment of its native wildlife.

“Then, decide for yourself, if I, a person who certainly makes mistakes, am really your villain.”

An ‘onlooker’ told The Sun: “Danny and Maura seem to have a close friendship after meeting in the jungle.

“They were talking and laughing for ages.”

“I want to deeply apologise to my wife and family for putting them in this situation. I love them so much and we’ll continue to deal with this privately.
