A body has been pulled from the River Thames

Police have pulled a body from the River Thames, and the incident is being linked to a murder investigation in Knockholt.

Lisa Smith was shot dead outside of a pub in Kent on Valentine’s Day and the suspect was said to be known to the 43-year-old.

The suspect left his car on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge following the shooting.

In a statement today (8 March), Kent Police said: “On Friday 14 February 2025, Lisa Smith, 43, was killed after she was shot outside a pub in Main Road.

“The suspect was known to Lisa and later that evening officers found his car abandoned on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge. Enquiries established he had fallen into the water below.

“At around 3.45pm on Friday 7 March, a body was located near Rainham, Essex.

“Formal identification has not yet taken place; however, the man’s family have been informed.”

Lisa, from Slough, was killed near The Three Horseshoes pub just after 7pm on Valentine’s Day.

Kent Police said the suspect fell from the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge which crosses the Thames at Dartford 17 miles away.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Higham said at the time: “We have carried out a full and extensive investigation into Lisa’s tragic murder and our inquiries have concluded that the suspect is believed to have died after falling into the River Thames.

“Multiple searches of several areas of the river have since been assisted by the Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade and Coastguard, but at this stage we have not recovered a body.

“These searches are ongoing and whilst our investigation will continue, we will be preparing our findings and reports to assist the coroner.

“This murder has led to the senseless loss of a beloved daughter and mother and our thoughts remain with Lisa’s family.”

Michelle Thomas, who runs The Three Horseshoes pub, said she heard ‘screaming, shouting’ and ‘crying’ when the shooting took place.

“People were outside, on their phones. We tried to get people inside the pub to consolidate them,” she said.

“People were only just starting to sit down, it was early on in the evening.”

Thomas noted that around 30 people were at the pub for dinner, while 20 more were in the bar area.

Although the pub has reopened its doors, she said the community remains ‘absolutely shocked’ by the incident.

The suspect, who visited ‘mostly in the summer, wasn’t a regular’.

Amy Schumer revealed X-rated 'major regret' about John Cena sex scene where she said he was ‘inside her’

Cena didn’t tell his partner he was filming the nude scene

Let’s be honest; John Cena has played his fair share of random characters in movies.

From a less than a minute-long cameo as a merman in Barbie, to an impersonator in Ricky Stanicky, the 47-year-old has had some more memorable performances.

Like the time he played Steven in 2015’s Trainwreck alongside Amy Schumer.

And the comedian revealed she had an X-rated ‘major regret’ about her sex scene with Cena where she said he was ‘inside her’.

While Cena has admitted he didn’t tell his fiancée about the comedic steamy moment in the film, and describing it as pretty ‘awkward’, Schumer was however ‘very into it’.

In Trainwreck, Schumer is a bit of a commitment-phobe who doesn’t think she can handle monogamy before she meets that guy.

But before that, one of her partners includes gym-rat Steven, who she strips down with as he promises to ‘fill you with protein’ and ‘put my green drink in you’.

During an Aussie chat show, Schumer was asked how she kept a straight face as Cena’s modesty was only just about protected.

“Because he was actually inside me. Who am I to stop him?” she joked.

And speaking during press interviews around the release, she added: “It’s a whole universe, that butt… it’s not even human.

“It felt like having a refrigerator on top of me.”

And to MTV Australia, Schumer admitted: “I think it was probably harder for him. He had to, like, do something. I just did what I usually do when I have sex. Just lay there, so yeah.”

She then went on to reveal a bit of a regret over the scene; she ‘didn’t get to feel his balls’.

“It’s a major regret of mine, major regret,” the star joked.

During an appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, Cena explained how awkward it is to film a sex scene.

Pointing at the podcast crew during the recording, he said: “This is the thing — right now, you guys at home think it’s just us. No, there’s a whole f**king world back here,” before adding there were even more on set of the film.

He continued: “There are so many people you need to make a movie. There is nothing intimate about it. Nothing.

“So it’s real embarrassing, and on top of that, to do a comedic sex scene when you’re making fun of yourself.”

And while he described the awkwardness, Schumer joked on Instagram: “John, how dare you?”

Sharing a broken heart in the caption, she said: “That sex scene meant a lot to me, and I was, like, very into it. And I’m in love with you.”

He wants to ensure Poland is ready in the event of war

The Prime Minister of Poland is having serious conversations regarding nuclear weapons in a bid to deter Putin.

Donald Tusk gave a speech to the Polish parliament yesterday (7 March) as he said his government was ‘carefully examining’ France’s proposal in being included in its nuclear umbrella.

French President Emmanuel Macron recently offered to extend the nation’s nuclear protection to its European allies as it looks to have military on the ground in Ukraine.

And as neighbouring Ukraine’s war with Russia is ongoing, it seems Tusk is gearing up for Poland to be prepared for the same possibility.

During his speech, he announced that a military training plan is under way for all men in the country.

Tusk explained work is happening to ‘prepare large-scale military training for every adult male in Poland’.

“We will try to have a model ready by the end of this year so that every adult male in Poland is trained in the event of war, so that this reserve is comparable and adequate to the potential threats,” he said.

He expressed a ‘need’ for an army of half a million in the country, including the reservists.

Regarding the nuclear umbrella offer from France, Tusk said: “I would like to know first of all in detail what it means in terms of the authority over these weapons.”

The Prime Minister noted that Ukraine was invaded after getting rid of its own nuclear arsenal and added that it is desired for Warsaw to have its own.

“We must be aware that Poland must reach for the most modern capabilities also related to nuclear weapons and modern unconventional weapons … this is a race for security, not for war,” he said.

He added that he wants Poland to increase its spending on defence, which has already been increased since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

When it comes to having all men trained for the military, the leader said that women may also undergo the training, but ‘war is still to a greater extent the domain of men.’

Of increasing the army, he said: “It seems if we organise things wisely, and I’m talking constantly with the Minister of Defence, we will have to use several courses of action. That means the reservists, but also intensive training to make those who do not go into the army fully-fledged and competent soldiers during a conflict.”

Blue Valentine tells the tale of a messy marriage

Ryan Gosling is seemingly so convincing in the sack that one of his movies had an age rating issue.

Written and directed by Derek Cianfrance – who would later reunite with Gosling on The Place Beyond the Pines – Blue Valentine came out 15 years ago and chronicled the dissolution of a marriage in a non-linear style.

Future Barbie legend Gosling played Dean Pereira, while Michelle Williams was his wife Cindy, but one all-too-realistic sex scene between their characters caused the Motion Picture Association (MPA) to controversially step in.

In conversation with The Guardian, the actor described the movie as ‘anti-romance’ before detailing Cianfrance’s artistic vision.

“Director Derek Cianfrance wanted this movie to celebrate people’s faults, to demystify romance and to make something that felt real. I was excited by that,” Gosling said.

During one intimate moment on screen, Dean performs oral sex on Cindy, which turned out to be a little too authentic for some.

“The sex felt real – it wasn’t sexy or ‘a sex scene’, and that’s why we got into trouble,” added Gosling.

The scene in question proceeded to land Blue Valentine in a rating classification battle with the MPA.

“You shouldn’t be penalised for doing a good job,” said the star, who along with his co-star Williams was nominated for a Golden Globe Award that same year.

After a classification skirmish with the powers that be, Blue Valentine was ultimately downgraded to the R rating, which means any viewers under the age of 17 must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

It also warns that the movie ‘contains some adult material’ with parents urged to ‘learn more about the film before taking their young children with them.’

From a modest budget of £788,000 ($1 million), Blue Valentine brought in just over £13m ($16.6m) at the global box office.

Williams, who went on to appear opposite Tom Hardy in the Venom franchise; Manchester by the Sea, and The Greatest Showman, also earned an Oscar nomination for her performance as Cindy.

This comes after Gosling revealed to The Wall Street Journal why he’s been side-stepping darker roles.

“I don’t really take roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place,” he noted.

“This moment is what I feel like trying to read the room at home and feel like what is going to be best for all of us. The decisions I make, I make them with Eva [Mendes], and we make them with our family in mind first.”

Matthew McConaughey's mum said one word that made him and Woody Harrelson realise they could be brothers

Matthew McConaughey’s mum said one word that made him and Woody Harrelson realise they could be brothers

Matthew McConaughey's mum said one word that made him and Woody Harrelson realise they could be brothers

It has long been speculated that the stars are related

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are easily two very recognisable faces in Hollywood, but they’re also two of the most easily mistaken.

I mean, the two celebrities look so similar it’s uncanny and it doesn’t exactly help that they’ve formed such a close friendship and often appear together both on and off-screen.

And maybe it doesn’t just stop at a bromance as McConaughey’s mum said one word to Harrelson that made them realise they could actually be brothers.

With plenty of conspiracy theories from fans and comments like this being made, Harrelson recently said the pair are probably going to take a DNA test to set the record straight.

The pair met for the first time back in 1999 when they starred in comedy film EDtv, but it does seem like their connection could go way back.

That all comes down to a conversation between the pair while they were on holiday in Greece with family, including McConaughey’s mum, Mary Kathleen ‘Kay’ McConaughey.

During that trip, McConaughey said she mentioned one word that made things seem deeper than they could’ve imagined.

“In Greece a few years ago, we’re sitting around talking about how close we are and our families,” the 54-year-old said on the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast.

“And my mom is there, and she says, ‘Woody, I knew your dad’. Everyone was aware of the ellipses that my mom left after ‘knew’.

“It was a loaded K-N-E-W.”

Come on, it's uncanny. (David M. Benett/Dave Benett/Getty Images)

He also said: “And that’s part of our bromance, right? My kids call him Uncle Woody. His kids call me Uncle Matthew etc etc. And you see pictures of us and my family thinks a lot of pictures of him are me. His family thinks a lot of pictures of me are him.”

The Interstellar actor said the two film stars went on to ‘unpack what this ‘knew’ meant and did some math’.

They found out Harrelson’s dad had been on furlough at the same time McConaughey’s mum and dad were in their second divorce (they literally got married three times).

Harrelson said: “The year of [McConaughey’s] birth, nine months before, she was on a sabbatical from her relationship with his supposed father, Jim.”

“Then there’s possible receipts and places out in West Texas where there might have been a gathering, or a meeting, or a ‘knew’ moment,” McConaughey added.

While the pair have previously edged away from doing DNA tests due to McConaughey being uneasy at the idea of finding out his dad wasn’t his biological father, it’s starting to seem possible.

“Well, we haven’t done the DNA test, but we’re probably going to do that. I think there’s a real possibility,” Harrelson told Johnny Vaughan on Radio X.

He also spoke of the ‘troubling’ ellipses of Mary’s ‘knew’ in Greece as he added: “Yeah, it sounds like something went on. And the thing was Matthew’s mom and dad divorced. They were married three times.

“Yeah. So, they’d split for a while, and during one of those splits, Charles Harrelson just seemed to find a little favour with her.”

President of Russia Vladimir Putin is reportedly considering a peace deal with Ukraine, under strict conditions

Vladimir Putin is reportedly considering a truce deal with Ukraine, but only if his conditions are met.

Last month (18 February), Russian and US officials met in Saudi Arabia to discuss the idea of ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, which escalated on 24 February 2022.

According to Bloomberg, people who are said to be familiar with the matter said Putin’s Russia would be open to a temporary peace plan, but only if their strict conditions are met.

One of Putin’s strict conditions is that he would allegedly want to decide which countries would take part in a peacekeeping plan.

This would include control over the structure of the peace plan and its principles, two people who are familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.

Donald Trump said from the Oval Office on Friday (7 March) that ‘we’re doing very well with Russia,’ but are ‘finding it more difficult, frankly, to deal with Ukraine’, following a heated exchange with Volodymyr Zelenskyy last week (28 February).

Tensions boiled over when Vice President JD Vance demanded that Zelenskyy should express gratitude for the US’s military support to Ukraine.

Zelenskyy responded with gratitude, but also highlighted the ongoing struggles of his country.

Trump then went on to criticise Zelenskyy, something he did a lot during the meeting, warning that Ukraine was ‘gambling with world war three’ without US support, which has now been paused.

However, the American President said on Truth Social yesterday that he will sanction Russia if they don’t stop ‘pounding’ Ukraine.

“Based on the fact that Russia is absolutely ‘pounding’ Ukraine on the battlefield right now, l am strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia until a Cease Fire and FINAL SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT ON PEACE IS REACHED,” he wrote.

“To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you!!!”

This comes after Sir Keir Starmer told Zelenskyy he has ‘full backing across the United Kingdom’, after the two met in Downing Street on 1 March.

The two nations have signed a £2.26 billion loan deal for the UK to provide Ukrainian military supplies, which will be repaid using profits from frozen Russian assets.

As cheers could be heard from outside, Starmer told the Ukrainian leader: “That is the people of the United Kingdom coming out to demonstrate how much they support you, how much they support Ukraine.”

He added: “We stand with you and Ukraine for as long as it may take.”

Zelenskyy replied: “I saw a lot of people and I want to thank you, the people of the United Kingdom, [for] such big support from the very beginning of this war.”

A love triangle somewhat appeared when Pitt and Aniston were four years into their marriage

Before the whole ‘Brangelina’ saga, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston had tied the knot and were Hollywood’s ultimate golden couple.

After a total of seven years together, the Friends star and Fight Club‘s main man announced that they were splitting in January 2005, having married in July 2000, with the divorce being complete by the end of March 2005.

Their statement read: “We would like to announce that after seven years together we have decided to formally separate. For those who follow these sorts of things, we would like to explain that our separation is not the result of any of the speculation reported by the tabloid media.

“This decision is the result of much thoughtful consideration. We happily remain committed and caring friends with great love and admiration for one another.”

It came around the same time Mr. & Mrs. Smith was being shot, with it released in cinemas throughout the US and further afield in June 2005.

Of course, Pitt starred as John Smith while Angelina Jolie played Jane Smith, and according to Courteney Cox, Aniston’s co-star on Friends, Pitt made an honest confession to Aniston at the time.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Cox said: “I don’t think he started an affair physically, but I think he was attracted to her.

“There was a connection, and he was honest about that with Jen. Most of the time, when people are attracted to other people, they don’t tell.

“At least he was honest about it. It was an attraction that he fought for a period of time.”

Aniston had reportedly been going through a difficult time after Friends finished it’s ten season run in 2004, and according to insiders, Pitt – who busy filming with Jolie – ‘just wasn’t there for her’.

An insider told PEOPLE magazine at the time: “They gradually lost sight of themselves as individuals. And despite their nice lifestyle and having everything they might want, they weren’t happy. They lost a sense of self.”

Of course, Pitt and Jolie went on to start a relationship shortly after the split, going on to get married in 2014. But they filed for divorce just two years later.

Amid the rumor mill, many saw Aniston as the wronged party and pitted her against Jolie.

When stories of Pitt and Jolie’s relationship emerged, Aniston generally avoided speaking too much on the tabloid drama.

However, in 2015, ten years after her divorce, the actor publicly discussed the ‘rivalry’ that the press had created between her and Jolie.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Aniston said: “I think it’s time people stop with that petty B.S. and just start celebrating great work and stop with the petty kind of silliness.

“I think that’s slowly coming to an end. I really do. It’s just tiresome and old. It’s like an old leather shoe. Let’s buy a new pair of shiny shoes.”

Brad Sigmon was shot dead last night

A double murderer was put to death by a three-man firing squad last night (7 March) in South Carolina.

Brad Sigmon opted for the controversial method rather than the electric chair or lethal injection, which are the other two state-approved procedures.

It makes him the first inmate in the US to be executed by a firing squad in 15 years.

Sigmon was handed the ultimate punishment by a jury in 2002 after being convicted of killing his former girlfriend’s parents, William and Gladys Larke.

He bludgeoned the couple to death with a baseball bat in their Greenville County home in 2001, as well as abducting their daughter Rebecca Barbare at gunpoint – but she managed to escape.

Three state corrections department volunteers fired rifles at Sigmon’s chest just after 6pm local time on Friday, fatally shooting him with specially designed bullets.

The 67-year-old was pronounced dead by a doctor at 6.08pm, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

He was strapped to a chair during the execution, which had a basin underneath to catch blood, the BBC reports.

Sigmon told witnesses that he wanted his last words to be ones of ‘love and a calling to my fellow Christians to help us end the death penalty’.

He said: “An eye for an eye was used as justification to the jury for seeking the death penalty. At that time, I was too ignorant to know how wrong that was.

“Why? Because we no longer live under the Old Testament law, but now live under the New Testament.”

After he made his final statement, a hood was placed over Sigmon’s head and a curtain which concealed the firing squad was opened.

Shots were then fired simultaneously at Sigmon from around 15ft (4.6m) away, without a countdown.

Reports claim that those carrying out the execution were aiming at a red bullseye target on Sigmon’s chest, which had been placed over his heart.

Jeffrey Collins, a reporter for the Associated Press, described seeing the killer’s chest rise and fall several times after the bullets penetrated him.

The ammunition used was .308 Winchester Tap Urban bullets, which are made to break apart on impact and inflict maximum damage.

People watching the execution from behind bulletproof glass were offered ear plugs by prison guards to protect their ears from the gunshots, according to the Post and Courier.

Despite Sigmon’s deciding to be killed by a firing squad, his lawyer Bo King has alleged that information about the lethal injection process was withheld from the killer.

“Brad only wanted assurances that these drugs were not expired, or diluted, or spoiled – what any of us would want to know about the medication we take, or the food we eat, much less the means of our death,” he said in a statement after Sigmon’s death.

“It is unfathomable that, in 2025, South Carolina would execute one of its citizens in this bloody spectacle.”

Sigmon had hoped for a last minute stay of execution, which was ultimately denied by South Carolina’s governor.

King claimed his client had been suffering from mental illness at the time of the murders and suggested that what he chose for his final meal proved he was a changed man.

“Brad is someone who, for his last meal, asked to get three buckets of original recipe Kentucky Fried Chicken so he could share with the guys that he’s incarcerated with on death row,” he told WYFF-TV earlier on Friday.

“With his last meal, he wanted to share something special with them.”

King later said that Sigmon’s request to share the food had been denied.

Why spotting this plane in the sky could mean you only have five minutes left to live

Yay, ominous death plane

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you ever catch this plane whizzing overhead then it may be an indicator of impending doom.

The idea of a doomsday plane sounds like something ripped straight from a low budget apocalypse thriller, but most pieces of fiction usually have a kernel of truth behind them and, given how rocky global politics are at the moment, it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise that world leaders have a contingency plan available for the worst case scenario.

So, what exactly is the doomsday plane and what are your chances of imminent doom if you see one?

A Boeing E-4 being refuelled in the 1990s (USAF/Getty Images)

A Boeing E-4 being refuelled in the 1990s (USAF/Getty Images)

What is the ‘doomsday plane’ and what does it mean if you see it?

Known as the Boeing E-4 or National Airborne Operations Centre (NAOC), this particular military aircraft is designed with the event of a nuclear war or global catastrophe in mind – hence why you only have about five minutes in the worst case scenario.

Put simply, the plane is a modified aircraft designed to operate as a mobile war room for the President of the United States. The E-4 can also fly for around 12 hours at 600mph and it can also refuel without landing, meaning it can survive in the sky for an entire week.

Sounds pretty dystopian, right?

Originally created back in the 1970s, the Boeing E-4 was designed to offer a cold war president a place to survive a nuclear attack, while also launching retaliatory missiles.

The United States isn’t the only nation to have prepared for the worst case scenario either, with Euro News also reporting the existence of a ‘Flying Kremlin’ designed to give the Russian President (aka Vladimir Putin) the same apocalyptic capabilities.

These bad boys aren’t cheap to run either, setting the military back $159,529 (£126,000) per hour to operate and making it the Air Force’s most expensive plane.

The Boeing E-4 planes also come with a number of defence mechanisms, such as the ability to withstand electromagnetic pulses and analog flight controls, which mean the aircraft wouldn’t be susceptible to cyber attacks.

According to MailOnline, the US has four of these doomsday planes, with one on high alert at all times, and are based at the US Strategic Command, south of Omaha, Nebraska.

CNET also adds that the aircraft are capable of carrying a crew of up to 112 people and are jam packed with high-level communication technology.

Although we’re not sure who you’d be talking to if the planet has been wiped out in a nuclear apocalypse.

What happens if you spot a ‘doomsday plane’?

As scary as the doomsday plane sounds, you shouldn’t immediately panic at the sight of one, as they’re also sometimes used to transport officials overseas for events and meetings.

But if it really is a harbinger of end times, perhaps it’s better to be on Earth rather than circling a destroyed planet for several days before the inevitable happens.

Lindsay Sandiford has been an inmate in Kerobokan Prison, Bali, for over a decade

A British grandmother who is awaiting death row execution in Bali issued one major complaint about the UK government.

Lindsay Sandiford was arrested for trying to smuggle a suitcase containing 4.8kg of cocaine into Bali from Bangkok in 2012.

The former legal secretary, from Teesside in North Yorkshire, was in possession of an estimated £1.6 million worth of the drugs and was sentenced to death by firing squad a year later.

Now aged 68, the mother-of-two has spent the last 12 years or so behind bars at the Kerobokan Prison in Bali.

Christie Buckingham – a pastor from Northern Ireland – was providing support to Sandiford, previously stating that ‘killing someone is never right’.

In a radio interview, according to a 2015 upload on the Bayside Church Melbourne YouTube channel, she said ‘the biggest stress for Lindsay’ is that ‘the British government have refused point-blank to help secure a competent Indonesian lawyer that can prepare what is known as a PK (prison kill)’.

Buckingham explained: “This is exceptionally distressing to her and to her family. And to be honest with you, it is very, very hard in the abolitionist field, we can’t really understand why a judicial review, which would have cost millions of pounds, just decided that she was an extraordinary case and should be funded.”

She added that ‘it’s very distressing and very confusing’.

In 2013, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said that the government does not fund legal representation for British nationals.

A spokesperson said: “We strongly object to the death penalty and continue to provide consular assistance to Lindsay and her family during this difficult time. It was through consular staff’s efforts in Indonesia that we were able to identify a lawyer who is prepared to assist Lindsay Sandiford with her appeal on a pro bono basis (although he requires costs of approximately £2,500 in order to travel to Bali in order to assist).”

Back in 2019, Sandiford told British journalists that death ‘won’t be a hard thing for me to face any more’.

“It’s not particularly a death I would choose but then again I wouldn’t choose dying in agony from cancer either. I do feel I can cope with it,” she said.

“But when it happens I don’t want my family to come.

“I don’t want any fuss at all. The one thing certain about life is no one gets out alive.

“Dying doesn’t bother me. I never thought I’d last this long to be honest.

“What I am uncomfortable about is the public humiliation. You’re dragged halfway around the country and paraded in front of the press before being executed and that will be the worst thing for me.

“My attitude is, ‘If you want to shoot me, shoot me. Get on with it’.

“I’ve done a terrible thing, I know, but the worst thing is the ritual public humiliation they seem to enjoy.”
