Trump insists he wants to make progress for peacetalks

Donald Trump has taken another dig at Ukraine as he reflects on the progress of peace talks.

Donald Trump had a very public bust up with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a meeting at the end of February, and it seems the pair are still struggling to see eye to eye.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Friday (March 7), Trump reflected on how well peace talks have been going.

He said the US is ‘doing very well with Russia’, and ‘it may be easier dealing with’ Moscow than Kyiv at this point.

However, a few hours earlier, Trump did say he was ‘strongly considering’ large scale sanctions and tariffs on Russia until a ceasefire with Ukraine was reached.

This threat from Trump is reportedly in response to a large-scale attack Russia conducted on Thursday using missiles and drones to target Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Trump explained he was considering the tariffs because ‘Russia is absolutely pounding Ukraine on the battlefield right now’.

A few hours later, and Trump would end up complimenting Russian leader Vladimir Putin, saying he was acting as anyone would in his position.

Trump said: “I think he’s hitting them [Ukraine] harder than he’s been hitting them.

“And I think probably anyone in that position would be doing that right now.”

Trump has also said he knows that Putin wants to end the war, but has his doubts regarding Ukraine.

When asked why the US has recently cut of military aid to Ukraine, Trump also said: “I want to know they [Ukraine] want to settle and I don’t know they want to settle.”

After the fiery meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian leader issued a statement insisting he was committed to finding a peaceful resolution.

The statement read: “None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts.

“We are ready to work fast to end the war, and the first stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky — ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure — and truce in the sea immediately, if Russia will do the same.

X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle safely landed at the Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, yesterday (March 7)

Space Force’s super secret aircraft has successfully made it back to Earth.

The Boeing-made X-37B spacecraft has garnered attention of late after US Space Force gave space fans a rare glimpse into what its been up to on its recent mission.

X-37B is been on seven missions over the past 15 years, with its most recent one starting in 2023.

Over the course of its seven missions, the Earth’s been orbited by X-37B for more than 4,000 days.

In a rare update issued last month, Space Force posted a photo of our planet seen from X-37B in space.

An X-37B onboard camera, used to ensure the health and safety of the vehicle, captures an image of Earth while conducting experiments in HEO in 2024.The X-37B executed a series of first-of-kind maneuvers, called aerobraking, to safely change its orbit using minimal fuel.

“An X-37B onboard camera, used to ensure the health and safety of the vehicle, captures an image of Earth while conducting experiments in HEO [Highly Elliptical Orbit] in 2024,” the post shared to Twitter read.

And now the test vehicle has safely made it home and landed at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California, yesterday (March 7), after being in orbit for 434 days.

During its time in space, the aircraft ‘accomplished a range of test and experimentation objectives intended to demonstrate the X-37B’s robust maneuver capability while helping characterize the space domain through the testing of space domain awareness technology experiments’, said the government body.

Speaking about the success of its seventh mission in light of the aircraft’s return, Chief of Space Operations Gen. Chance Saltzman, said in a press release: “Mission 7 broke new ground by showcasing the X-37B’s ability to flexibly accomplish its test and experimentation objectives across orbital regimes.

“The successful execution of the aerobraking maneuver underscores the U.S. Space Force’s commitment to pushing the bounds of novel space operations in a safe and responsible manner.”

Elsewhere, the mission was dubbed as an ‘incredibly important milestone’.

Explaining why it was such a big moment for the US Space Force, it comes down to the test vehicle trying out an aerobraking maneuver.

“The use of the aerobraking maneuver — a series of passes using the drag of Earth’s atmosphere — enables the spacecraft to change orbits while expending minimal fuel,” Space Force’s website states.

And X-37B successfully performed the maneuver in question.

Speaking ahead of Missino 7 drawing to a close, Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall said that the ‘novel and efficient series of maneuvers demonstrates the Space Force’s commitment to achieving groundbreaking innovation as it conducts national security missions in space’.

The attempt at doing the maneuver was the first time that X-37B had tried to carry it out.

Disturbing reason iconic McDonald’s clown Ronald McDonald quietly disappeared from everything

The reason isn’t actually tied to their rebrand

For a certain generation, going to McDonald’s and seeing its mascot, clown Ronald McDonald, was part of the iconic experience, but the food company got rid of him for an odd reason.

McDonald’s used to be the best spot to host a birthday party as a kid, but oh, how much the world has changed.

Part of this wonderful experience was taking pictures with the fast food company’s mascot, Ronald McDonald. Either posing alongside a worker in costume or the permanent statue, it was quite the experience.

Obviously, this only really applied if you didn’t mind clowns.

Ronnie very much divided opinion back in the day, as you either loved him or hated him.

But thinking about it, you may have noticed Ronald hasn’t been seen on any McDonald’s marketing for a long while. Well, this is beause the fast-food chain decided to phase out the character altogether in 2016 due to a disturbing social media trend.

Cast your mind back eight years ago, and you may remember the viral trend that saw people dressing up as sinister-looking clowns. Folks would often share snaps of them in clown costumes on social media, with the trend taking a rather disturbing turn.

It got to the point where people would rock up to schools across the US dressed as clowns. And things got massively out of hand as a Florida family were attacked by a group of 20 people wearing clown masks.

Because of the social media trend, clowns went from a childhood entertainment to the stuff of nightmares.

McDonald’s ultimately decided to ditch Ronald in the end due to the public opinion of clowns shifting.

A statement from the fast food company at the time read: “McDonald’s and franchises in the local markets are mindful of the current climate around clown sightings in communities and as such are being thoughtful in respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events for the time being.”

Willard Scott, the original portrayer of the McDonald’s mascot, sadly passed away at the age of 87 in 2021.

Back in 1987, Scott offered some insight into playing the famed character.

He told the New York Times: “I just love people. A lot of speakers on the talk circuit leave right afterward… I do a lot of shmoozing. I’m like a dog. You just open the door and I go, ‘rrrr, rrrr,’ and then I lick everybody’s face.”

One quick trick can help you increase your phones lifespan – and it takes under 20 seconds to do!

We’ve all been charging our cell phones wrong, be it an iPhone, a Samsung or whatever other device you have.

Have you ever noticed after a year or two that your battery life on your mobile drains much faster than it used to? You have, I have, we all have. There’s a couple reasons for that.

Counterfeit charges 'pose a risk of death', according to Apple (Getty stock)

Counterfeit charges ‘pose a risk of death’, according to Apple (Getty stock)

One thing is because we should all strictly only charge our iPhone with an Apple charger, especially as the cheaper ‘knock-off’ versions are a safety risk – with them being more likely to catch fire.

Apple writes: “You can also charge iPhone with ‘Made for iPhone’ or other third-party cables and power adapters that are compliant with USB 2.0 or later and with applicable country regulations and international and regional safety standards.

“Other adapters may not meet applicable safety standards, and charging with such adapters could pose a risk of death or injury.”

But that’s not what we’re here to talk about today, it’s just some useful advice. No, we’re here to speak about not allowing your battery to charge to 100 percent.

It might not look as aesthetically pleasing as a full bar does, but it will certainly save your phone’s lifespan.

Setting your iPhone's charging limit to 95 percent could help increase your device's lifespan (Apple)

This is because a full charged battery is prone to experience stress, which in turn takes a hit on hits health, meaning it will degrade much faster.

So charging to 95 percent is one way you could stretch your iPhone’s lifespan.

Fortunately, iPhones have optimized battery charging installed into them which is designed to reduce the wear on your device’s battery and thus improve its lifespan, by reducing the time your iPhone spends fully charged.

When the feature is enabled, your iPhone will delay charging past 80 percent in certain situations, and it uses an algorithm to establish your daily charging routines.

Optimized Battery Charging is on by default when you set up your iPhone (Apple)

Explaining how to improve battery lifespan with its ‘charging limit’, Apple writes: “With iPhone 15 models and later, if the charge limit is 100 percent, you can also turn on Optimized Battery Charging. Your iPhone has these settings by default.

“Your iPhone will charge to within a few percentage points of your chosen limit and then stop charging. If the battery charge level drops more than 5 percent while connected to power, charging will resume, again charging to within a few points of your chosen limit.

“If iOS determines that a charge limit will help preserve your battery’s lifespan, you’ll see a recommendation. For example, you might see “Based on your iPhone habits, a charge limit of 95% is recommended to help preserve your battery.”

Ashley Robinson lost 26 pounds in just seven days, but still doctors didn’t take his case seriously he explained

With just months to go until his wedding, Ashley Robinson began experiencing stomach issues, but when he took those complaints to his doctor, he was dismissed.

The 35-year-old shockingly lost 26 pounds in just seven days, and when doctors finally listened to his wife’s desperate plea for them to see him, he was told he had stage four bowel cancer that had spread to his liver – and a tumor the size of an orange in his colon.

In July last year, Robinson married his partner Jasmin, but the preparation for it was far from easy as he was working 60-hour weeks as a chef to help fund the big do.

Two months prior to that, the Brit began passing ‘quite a lot of blood’ during his bowel movements.

“In June, it started getting worse, and I rang my GP but they said that it wasn’t serious, told me not to worry and that it would pass in a week or so,” Robinson, of Dacorum in Hertfordshire, said.

“I told them that it had already been going on for a month but they just said to leave it another week.”

He assumed it was simply just stress-related and admitted he probably would have taken the ordeal more seriously, had he not had so much going on in his life.

Robinson continued: “It got really bad and I passed the most insane amount of blood so I phoned my GP and they told me to go to A&E [the UK version of the ER] straight away.

“When I saw the doctor I mentioned to him that my great nan had died of colon cancer but he said there was no chance and that I was too young.

“I went home with medication and took that for two weeks but nothing changed.”

With his bachelor party on the horizon he opted to push it to the back of his mind and deal with it later, as every health professional he had seen told him that he ‘definitely didn’t have cancer’, he explained.

“They were saying ‘you’re fine, don’t worry, go and get married’ so I took their word for it,” Robinson said.

After their wedding he wanted to know exactly what was up with him, as he had shed 26 pounds in a short period of time.

“I went back to my GP. I rang them three or four times and they wouldn’t see me. They said there was nothing wrong with me or that it was just piles,” Robinson shared.

“My wife went down there while I was at work. She stormed in there and forced them to see me.

“They got me in but my GP said they still didn’t think I had cancer, but they put me forward for a colonoscopy. That’s when they found a tumour the size of an orange in my colon.”

He continued: “I was dreading getting the [biopsy] results back. I was told I had stage 4 colon cancer, which had spread to my liver. It was the worst news possible.

“It’s so hard to put into words the hammer blow, it absolutely crushed my wife. Aside from it happening to her, it was the worst possible news I ever could have had.”

The President said he is finding it ‘more difficult’ to deal with Zelenskyy than Putin

Donald Trump reckons it’s much easier to deal with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin rather than Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The US President, 78, didn’t mince his words when it came to discussing which leader he is more fond of in the Oval Office on Friday (7 March).

And considering he was speaking to reporters from the same location he and Zelenskyy had verbally sparred in a week prior, it’s hardly that surprising.

There’s been a lot of developments since the pair locked horns in the White House on 28 February, including the suspension of all US military aid to Ukraine.

It had been reported by the New York Times that over $1 billion (£787.3 million) in arms and ammunition will be withheld, forcing the war-torn country to turn to private contractors instead.

Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko warned that this would be ‘catastrophic’ for the nation, although a White House official told Fox News it was ‘not a permanent termination of aid’ but a ‘pause’.

Trump has now also pulled the plug on Ukraine’s access to some satellite imagery, according to the BBC.

In his latest comments regarding the prospect of achieving peace between Putin and Zelenskyy’s countries, the President seemed to flip-flop between who’s side he was on.

He explained he was ‘strongly considering large-scale sanctions’ and tariffs on Russia until a deal is brokered, because the country had been ‘pounding’ Ukraine as of late.

It came after Ukraine’s energy infrastructure was battered by a large-scale missile and drone attack on Thursday (6 March) night.

But just hours later, Trump had drastically changed his tune and said that other people would be doing the same if they were in Putin’s position.

“We’re doing very well with Russia,” Trump said. “But right now they’re bombing the hell out of Ukraine.

“I think he [Putin] wants to get it stopped and settled and I think he’s hitting them harder than he’s been hitting them. I think probably anybody in that position would be doing that right now.”

When asked why he had cut off military aid, the President responded: “I want to know [Ukraine] want to settle and I don’t know they want to settle.”

Trump went on to say that he finds it ‘easier’ to work with Putin rather than Zelenskyy, as the Russian leader ‘wants to end the war’.

“I’m finding it more difficult, frankly, to deal with Ukraine,” he said. “And they don’t have the cards.

“In terms of getting a final settlement, it may be easier dealing with Russia.”

The commander-in-chief said he has ‘always had a good relationship’ with Putin, adding: “He wants to end the war. And I think he’s going to be more generous than he has to be.”

Next week, senior US and Ukrainian officials are set to sit down in Saudi Arabia in the hopes of smoothing things over following Trump’s row with Zelenskyy.

Here’s to hoping that pans out better than the one in the Oval Office did, eh?

British diver revealed what he was thinking when stuck 300ft underwater with no oxygen for more than 30 minutes

Saturation diver Chris Lemons was stuck underwater with no oxygen back in 2012 for over half an hour

A British diver has explained what was going through his mind when he realised he was stuck 300 feet underwater with no oxygen.

Saturation diver Chris Lemons was left fighting for his life after fixing a pipe below the North Sea, near the Huntington oil field off Aberdeen on 18 September 2012.

Due to a positioning system failure, the Bibby Topaz support vessel drifted into rough seas, and Lemons’ lifeline to the surface – an umbilical cable which tethered him to the diving bell and the boat – was cut off.

The Scotsman was left in complete darkness, only with a limited emergency gas supply in its backup tanks, estimated to last around five minutes.

On what he was thinking in that moment, Lemons explained to The Guardian: “I was at an exciting point in my life: early thirties, getting married the following year, we were in the process of building a house…

“I had all the hopes and dreams you have at that stage – of children, travel – and it felt as if all of that was about to be ripped away in this strange, lonely, ethereal place.

“I grew up in a middle-class family on the outskirts of Cambridge, and I remember thinking: ‘How is this dark, lonely place where I end my days?’.”

With time running out, Topaz launched a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to locate his whereabouts.

The mini submarine had a camera attached to it, showing Lemons lying on top of the structure in the foetal position.

When he lost consciousness, Lemons said the ‘actual moment was peaceful’.

“I feel like a bit of a charlatan. I still get contacted all the time by people who’ve lost loved ones, but I don’t have the right to tell you what it’s like – I didn’t die,” he added.

Thankfully, the dynamic positioning system was up and running again, just in time to save Lemons.

Lemons' heroic colleagues managed to track him down and rescue him (Dogwoof)

With just minutes left of emergency gas, colleagues Duncan Allcock and Dave Yuas were able to drag him to safety.

When they got him back into the bell and took off his helmet, Lemons was bright blue.

Allcock then gave him mouth-to-mouth and incredibly, he survived.

“They’re the real heroes in this story,” Lemons added: “And everyone on the boat. I’m just a damsel in distress.”

While experts still don’t know how he made it, Lemons reckons the freezing conditions saved him.

“But I’ve learned that if my body had been so cold that I’d gone into some kind of hibernation or stasis, there is no way Duncan would have been able to resuscitate me that quickly,” he said.

Lemons’ life-changing experience was the subject of 2019 documentary Last Breath and has been dramatised in 2025 feature film of the same name, directed by Alex Parkinson.

Finn Cole stars as Lemons, while Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu play his fellow divers.

Katie Brown slammed the motorist’s ‘stupid behaviour’

Footage of a reporter losing her rag at a driver for ‘dangerously’ navigating their way through floodwater has sparked a fiery debate online.

Journalist Katie Brown, who works on Australia’s Sunrise breakfast show, was reporting on Cyclone Alfred live from Byron Bay when she spotted the ‘stupid’ motorist.

Brown was bringing viewers up to speed on the latest developments after the tropical storm battered Queensland and New South Wales (NSW) with powerful winds and heavy rainfall.

A host of residents were evacuated as forecasters warned that Cyclone Alfred was set to make landfall and cause ‘significant risks’, however the storm was later downgraded from a tropical cyclone to a tropical low.

Authorities urged people to stay indoors and said fines would be doled out to those who still visited beaches, as even though the weather event weakened, officials said it would still wreak some havoc.

Which is probably why Brown was left blown away by the amount of people who were still ‘out and about’ on Friday (7 March).

While assessing the situation on the roads, she explained that the Sunrise crew had just watched a fire truck drive past and that the floodwater had ‘come straight up beyond its tyres’.

“This is only minor flooding but we’ve really got to start to be careful, you can’t be risking it,” Brown told viewers, before going on to say she was left stunned by how many people were around.

“There’s even a bicycle rider going through the floodwaters,” the TV star said. “We’ve got a bystander running through, I’m not sure why he’s on the road.

“In terms of safety, we really need to listen to the authorities, because it is dangerous out there. There’s still a lot of people out and about and travelling to and from.

“You can see how quickly this floodwater rises. This morning when we left for Ballina, it was a small puddle on the right hand side.”

As she described the situation to people watching from home, Brown was then left visibly enraged as she watched a motorist driving a lot faster than anyone else through the floodwater.

She remarked: “Now you can see a Commodore being so stupid on the road! Sorry, that is stupid behaviour! That is so dangerous, that can cause a serious accident, we are dealing with a cyclone.

“This is what you have to be aware of, it’s not people who are trying to be safe, it’s people who are being silly. Gosh, that’s just really annoyed me, that’s just stupid.”

She apologised to Sunrise host Matt Shirvington for ‘losing her train of thought’ after spotting the ‘ridiculous’ driver, to which he replied: “It’s unbelievable.”

Although it seems those at the helm of the breakfast show are all in agreement about the driver’s actions being daft, social media users aren’t.

The footage of Brown’s segment was shared on TikTok alongside the caption: “Sunrise reporter Katie Brown had some choice words for a driver crossing flood waters after their dangerous driving manoeuvre.”

Despite a lot of people taking Brown’s side, there were also a host of comments left in support for the driver.

One person said: “‘We are dealing with a cyclone’…settle down love, it’s one inch of water.”

Another wrote: “Get away from the road and out of the rain then.”

A third added: “Just report the news and please don’t lecture us.”

And a fourth commented: “Was nothing wrong with that, he had a good speed to get through the water and the car in front of him was moving much slower. Wouldn’t have been smart for him to slow down.”

On the other hand, some people thought Brown’s remarks were completely justified.

One supporter said: “This is why 7 is the best network as the reporters keep it real and honest, say what we are all thinking. Your team is on the ground experiencing the actual events, not broadcasting from indoors.”

Another chimed in: “Well done for calling them out. Some people are being so stupid and selfish, they will be the ones who pull emergency resources from those who actually need rescuing or assistance.”

While a third said in solidarity: “Love you Katie Brown… tells it how it is.”

Brown shared an Instagram post on Saturday giving people further weather updates on what was formerly known as Cyclone Alfred, saying there had been ‘less rain, more wind, good hair day and lots of teamwork’.

She added: “Seeing so many amazing people in the community being so selfless to keep others safe and lend a helping hand it just makes ya heart feel full! Hopefully the rain and wind is over soon, stay safe.”

Horrifying side effects man experienced after 86 minutes in world's quietest room where you can hear your own organs

It didn’t take long before the strange side effects of sitting in absolute silence began to impact Callum McGinley

Although an hour in the world’s quietest room might sound like absolute bliss to some people, it’s not as tranquil as you might think.

You can’t just hear a pin drop in the Anechoic Chamber at London’s South Bank University – you can discern even the slightest sound your body makes.

We’re not just talking about being about to listen to your belly rumbling in hunger or your joints clicking when you move, either.

Those who are brave enough to enter one of the world’s quietest rooms can literally hear their blood travelling around their bodies, as it is so deafeningly silent.

As you can imagine, this unusual experience can have quite the effect on humans, as most of us are used to constant hustle and bustle rather than sheer silence in an Anechoic Chamber.

YouTuber Callum McGinley, better known as ‘Callux’ online, decided to take one for the team and head inside the specialist facility in the UK capital back in 2019.

And after spending a whopping one hour and 26 minutes inside, he had just one sentence to sum up what he thought of it: “That was f***ing weird.”

The 32-year-old wanted to beat the previous Guinness World Record set for the longest time spent in the Anechoic Chamber, which was 67 minutes.

To do so, he had to remain conscious and awake throughout the tough challenge, while he was also only allowed to speak for 60 seconds every five minutes.

This was to keep the sound levels inside the chamber below 25 decibels, which is a similar level to the sound made when we breathe.

Despite heading inside with serious determination, Callum quickly began to succumb to the disorientating effects of the ridiculously quiet room.

He began to feel spaced out within five minutes of being in there, and reported experiencing an intense burst of tinnitus in both of his ears.

Callum then complained of feeling ‘pressure in his head’, while he claimed to see lights dancing around him in the room at the 15-minute mark.

After half an hour, the weird effects really began to impact the content creator, as he was left pretty unnerved by the sound of his own blood moving through his veins.

“The sound I thought was the London Underground earlier, that’s my blood travelling around my ear,” he said.

“It sounds like someone’s dragging a trolley across my ear, and now it feels like the seconds are going slower while I’m talking.”

Callum then told the camera that ‘things started getting a bit weird’ – so much so, that he considered jacking the challenge in as he became disturbed by hallucinations he was having.

He explained: “I was trying to track this thing I was imagining around the room. It was freaking me out and brought tears to my eyes, but I knew I only had a few minutes left to beat the world record.

“All I had to do was hang in there for a couple more minutes.”

Which is exactly what he did, even if it proved to be the ‘hardest’ part of the challenge – and this meant that he dethroned the former world record holder and took the title for himself.

He set an impressive new benchmark of one hour and 26 minutes…even though the bloke who designed the Anechoic Chamber doesn’t recommend spending more than three quarters of an hour in there.

Steven Orfield said of the eerily quiet room: “We challenge people to sit in the chamber in the dark.

“When it’s quiet, ears will adapt. The quieter the room, the more things you hear.

“You’ll hear your heart beating, sometimes you can hear your lungs, hear your stomach gurgling loudly. In the anechoic chamber, you become the sound.”

The Anechoic Chamber was built ‘to achieve almost perfect quiet conditions’, according to South Bank University.

This is achieved as ‘external sound is not allowed to break in and sound reflections off internal room boundaries cannot occur’.

But it’s not the only mind-bendingly quiet room on the block – as there’s another one at Orfield Laboratories in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

So whichever side of the pond your on, you can have a crack at beating Callum’s incredible record…if you dare.

Dawn Brancheau’s death in 2010 changed SeaWorld forever

The final ever photo of tragic SeaWorld trainer Dawn Brancheau was taken just moments before she ended up trapped between the jaws of an orca.

The 40-year-old’s death made headlines around the world, as she was killed by a six tonne and 22ft long killer whale, Tilikum, in front of the crowd of people who they had both just performed for.

Minutes before horror struck, she was seen grinning while she played with the captive marine animal in the water.

On 24 February, 2010, Dawn and Tilikum had entertained swarms of visitors during the ‘Dine with Shamu’ experience.

Guests ate their grub while watching the killer whale perform with the veteran trainer, who had worked at SeaWorld Orlando for 15 years and was even their poster girl.

Her boss said she had managed to build a ‘great relationship’ with Tilikum, despite his track record of fatally attacking two other people and him being the largest orca in captivity.

After wrapping up the ‘Dine with Shamu’ segment on that fateful day, Dawn then began her end-of-show routine, which involved her rubbing the orca’s head.

She was seen lying on a slide-out on the edge of the pool as she joshed around with the humungous killer whale – before she suddenly disappeared under the surface.

Tilikum had latched onto Dawn’s ponytail and dragged her below the surface, while the hundreds of spectators watched on in horror.

SeaWorld staff frantically tried to encourage the killer whale to free his trainer by using nets and hurling food in the water, but there efforts were to no avail.

Tilikum continued to thrash Dawn around while holding her between his jaws and ultimately, the terrifying incident lasted for around 45 minutes.

The orca was eventually ushered into a smaller pool – while still holding his trainer in his mouth – but tragically, it was too late.

Dawn’s spinal cord had been severed, and she had suffered fractures to her jawbone, ribs and vertebrae, while her scalp had also been torn from her head.

According to her autopsy report, she died from drowning and blunt force trauma.

She was Tilikum’s third victim, as the orca had previously been involved in the death of Keltie Lee Byrne, 20, at Sealand of the Pacific in February 1991.

She had slipped and fallen into the whale pool and one of the marine mammals seized her foot and hauled her underwater.

The orcas involved were later sold to SeaWorld, resulting in Tilikum being sent to Orlando.

On 6 July, 1999, 27-year-old Daniel P. Dukes died – as according to SeaWorld, he had trespassed into the Florida theme park before climbing into Tilikum’s pool.

His death was ruled an accidental drowning and his corpse was found ‘severely mutilated’ by the whale.

Having taken several victims and being a main attraction at the park, Tilikum was heavily featured in the 2013 documentary, Blackfish.

Tilikum died in 2017 after suffering a series of health issues, including a persistent bacterial lung infection.

Speaking at the time of Dawn’s death, John Hargrove, a senior trainer at SeaWorld, said: “We’ll never know why Tilikum made that choice to grab Dawn and pull her into the pool.

“He had a great relationship with her, and she had a great relationship with him. I do believe that he loved her, and I know that she loved him.”

Dawn’s sister, Debbie Frogameni, paid tribute to her ‘special’ sibling, adding: “Watching her perform was sure to bring tears of joy for some of us. She was simply amazing.”

These days, trainers can no longer perform in the water alongside captive animals at SeaWorld.

According to CBS, SeaWorld now runs a programme called ‘Orca Encounter’, which looks at the killer whales’ role in the ocean ecosystem, behaviours that the animals exhibit in the wild, the importance of conservation to their habitat and animal welfare practices at SeaWorld.
