Scientists believe they have uncovered major cause of specific cancer that has cases rising among young people

A review of 3,000 studies across animals and humans brought up some alarming suggestions

Scientists have carried out a study that could have found a possible cause behind the rising cases of a certain cancer.

The conclusion was reached after reviewing over 3,000 studies on the potential cause, and it’s something that lifestyle and genetics can’t really explain.

Colon cancer cases among young people are rapidly on the rise, as a study’s findings showed that it kills 17,000 people per year in the UK.

While it has been previously suggested by the American Cancer Society that it’s all down to the Western diet, it turns out it could be something else entirely.

What could be a major cause of colon cancer?

Californian researchers posted their findings and review in the ACS Publications Environmental Science & Technology this month, and found one potential cause of the deadly disease.

They found that tiny toxins from microplastics may have a suggested link to lung and colon cancer, in addition to other lung diseases and even infertility.

It adds to the baffling scientific discovery that lung cancers not caused by tobacco are currently rising, as the health world continues to learn more about cancer and its many causes.

What are microplastics?

Microplastics are small pieces of plastic (less than 5mm in diameter) that are released by consumer goods – think clothes, toys, packaging, food containers or even tyres.

Not only do they contaminate the air, our food and our water, but they can now be found inside of our bodies, potentially causing inflammation.

If the immune system were to react to it, a number of medical issues may rise such as tissue damage and heart inflammation.

Scientists believe there could be a possible link between microplastics and colon cancer, among other health issues, though with plastic production expected to continue increasing, researchers from the University of California are calling it a ‘big concern.’

How can microplastics cause health issues?

The review, which looked at 3,000 studies across animals and humans, found that exposure to microplastics can cause long-term problems in the respiratory, digestive and reproductive systems.

The team explained: “We concluded that exposure to microplastics is ‘suspected’ to adversely impact the colon and small intestine in humans.”

Basically, the studies showed there was a possible link between microplastics and negative changes in the digestive system, as the particles can disrupt the mucus layer which protects us.

What do the researchers think?

They continued: “Across the outcomes, we identified that exposure to microplastics is ‘suspected’ to be a digestive hazard to humans, including a suspected link to colon cancer, using the key characteristics of carcinogens approach.”

Some studies found a link between microplastics and a low birth rate, though the review stated: “We concluded that exposure to microplastics is ‘suspected’ to adversely impact sperm quality and testicular health in humans.”

A link between poor lung function and microplastics present in the organ were also found, labelled as a ‘hazard’ to the respiratory system.

Researchers added that these small particles are ‘widespread’, and can be found virtually anywhere, including the Antarctic, Arctic and ocean trenches.

This means they can easily enter the human body and have even been found in breastmilk, the liver and human placenta.

Senior author Tracey J.Woodruff, professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences at UCSF, stated: “These microplastics are basically particulate matter air pollution, and we know this type of air pollution is harmful.”

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass refused to answer any of a reporter’s questions about her absence during the outbreak of the wildfires

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has come under fire online for refusing to answer questions about the wildfires sweeping through the city.

Multiple wildfires have been surging through California since Tuesday (January 7), leaving at least five dead and over 1,000 structures destroyed, with thousands of acres in flames as firefighters battle to try and gain control.

Residents in Los Angeles have been urged to evacuate with a red flag warning issued until Friday, however, Mayor Karen Bass had already left the city by that point.

The National Weather Service released multiple warnings in the build up to the first fire breaking out on Tuesday (January 7), however, Mayor Bass reportedly left town on Saturday (January 4) as part of a presidential delegation to Ghana, only returning to the US yesterday.

It’s reported by The LA Times that City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson as Los Angeles’ acting mayor was Los Angeles’ acting mayor at the time the first Palisades fire broke out, as she attended the inauguration of Ghanaian President John Dramani Maham.

And Sky News reporter David Blevins didn’t hold back when questioning Mayor Bass about where she was when the wildfires broke out, alongside the city’s approach to the fire department.

In a video shared to Twitter by Sky News, Blevins can be heard asking Bass: “Do you owe citizens an apology for being absent whilst their homes were burning?”

After being met with silence, Blevins continues: “Do you regret cutting the fire department’s budget by millions of dollars madam Mayor?

“Have you nothing to say today? Have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today?

“Elon Musk has said you’re utterly incompetent – have you considered your position?

“Madam Mayor have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today who are dealing with this disaster? No apology for them? Do you think you should’ve been visiting Ghana while this was unfolding back home?”

Despite Blevins persistently asking for some sort of comment, Bass remained silent and it’s not taken long for social media users to weigh in.

One Twitter user said: “What a disgrace. Not one word for the people she represents. She needs to be recalled immediately.”

“This reporter was completely respectful of the mayor’s position while at the same time asking pertinent questions. The people in her city deserve, if not an answer to his specific questions, at least a statement of assurance that they are doing everything possible,” another added.

A third commented: “Outrageous,” while a fourth wrote: “RESIGN!!!”

A fifth said: “This is disgusting behavior. Absolutely unacceptable. They chose to fill their pockets instead of using their funds to increase their workforce and provide safety.”

And a sixth resolved: “She’s in so far over her head it’s scary. She looks a deer in headlights! She will have to answer these questions eventually and be held accountable!”

Scientists reveal they may have discovered what's causing the unexplained rise in cancer cases

Scientists reveal they may have discovered what’s causing the unexplained rise in cancer cases

The study was published earlier this month

Scientists have revealed they may have discovered what’s causing the unexplained rise in cancer cases across the world.

In 2024, it was estimated around two million people were diagnosed with cancer in the US, a figure that’s increased sharply in recent years.

Some of the possible cause of many of these cancers for which genetics, diet and lifestyle cannot explain has left scientists stumped… until now.

Ultimately, Californian researchers concluded that an individual being exposed to microplastics is ‘suspected’ to play a role with the increase in colon and even lung cancer.

The study, which was published in ACS Publications Environmental Science & Technology, earlier this month stated: “We concluded that exposure to microplastics is ‘suspected’ to adversely impact the colon and small intestine in humans.”

On top of that, microplastics are ‘suspected’ of causing chronic inflammation and damaging the immune system.

“Across the outcomes, we identified that exposure to microplastics is ‘suspected’ to be a digestive hazard to humans, including a suspected link to colon cancer, using the key characteristics of carcinogens approach,” the study added.

The study also found that microplastics can impact fertility, damage sperm count in men and impact the ovaries and placenta in women.

Particles from these microplastics can also cause inflammation in the airways, which can increase the risk of someone developing lung cancer.

The researchers added: “Microplastics are widespread and mobile in the environment, being detected in air, surface water, costal beaches, sediment, and food.

“They have been discovered in remote and pristine locations, including the Antarctic, deep ocean trenches, and Arctic sea ice.

The study has provided long-desired answers (Getty Stock Photo)

“Due to their small size, microplastics more easily enter and are distributed in the human body in comparison to larger particles; microplastics have been measured in human placenta, breastmilk, and live.”

Tracey J. Woodruff, a professor of obstetrics, gynaecology and reproductive sciences and senior author on the study, added: “These microplastics are basically particulate matter air pollution, and we know this type of air pollution is harmful.”

Such findings will hopefully be a wake up call for many companies across the globe who produce mass amounts of plastics every single year.

Heck, nearly 460million metric tons of plastic was produced last year, a figure that is expected to increase to 1.1 billion by 2050.

Nicholas Chartres, the study’s first author, said: “We urge regulatory agencies and policy leaders to consider the growing evidence of health harms from microplastics, including colon and lung cancer.”

Paris Hilton has taken to Twitter to address the ‘devastation’ left in the wake of the wildfires in California

Warning: Contains graphic images and video footage some may find upsetting.

Paris Hilton has spoken out about the ‘heartache’ of seeing wildfires sweep through California.

On Tuesday (January 7), the Pacific Palisades Fire erupted, hurricane-style winds blowing it through the Pacific Coast to Pasadena with multiple other wildfires having since broken out too, encircling Los Angeles.

By last night, it was reported the fire had led to the deaths of five people, residents urged to evacuate and a red flag warning issued by National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles and Oxnard CA in place until tomorrow.

LAPD chief Jim McDonnell said the winds are unlike anything he’d ‘ever seen before’ and more than 1,000 structures are reported as having burnt down, as per AP News, with the fires having left Malibu’s coastline scorched.

Among the homes affected in Malibu is that of Paris Hilton, with the businesswoman having taken to Twitter to reveal she and her family saw her home ‘burn to the ground on live TV’, which she notes is ‘something no one should ever have to experience’.

In a post shared earlier today, she wrote: “Heartbroken beyond words […] This home was where we built so many precious memories. It’s where Phoenix took his first steps and where we dreamed of building a lifetime of memories with London.

“While the loss is overwhelming, I’m holding onto gratitude that my family is safe. My heart and prayers are going out to every family affected by these fires.

“To all the people who have lost their homes, their memories, and their beloved pets.

“My heartaches for those still in harm’s way or mourning greater losses. The devastation is unimaginable. To know so many are waking up today without the place they called home is truly heartbreaking.”

Hilton noted her 11:11 Media Impact Team is already in touch with various nonprofit organizations to try and provide support for those impacted by the fires.

“We’re committed to offering help as soon as possible and making a meaningful difference for those who need it most,” she added.

The socialite thanked the ‘brave firefighters and first responders risking their lives to protect’ everyone’.

She continued: “You are true heroes. I am so grateful for your courage, dedication, and the incredible sacrifices you’re making to save lives and fight this unimaginable battle. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Hilton ended the post by urging everyone to try and ‘stay safe’ as best as they can and ‘follow evacuation orders’.

She resolved: “Let’s protect one another and hold onto hope that these fires will soon be contained. Sending so much love and strength to all of you. We’re in this together, LA. Hug your loved ones a little tighter tonight. You never know when everything could change.”

The Freaky Friday actor has been raising awareness on how to support those affected by the fires

Jamie Lee Curtis has spoken out about the ‘catastrophe’ of the California wildfires during an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s show.

With wildfires continuing to blaze through Los Angeles, California – reported as having taken the lives of at least five people and destroyed over 1,000 structures – Freaky Friday actor Jamie Lee Curtis has shared advice and urged people to offer support in any way they can.

Curtis took to Instagram to speak out about the devastation being caused by the wildfires in a post shared yesterday (January 8).

She wrote: “My community and possibly my home is on fire. My family is safe. Many of my friends will lose their homes. Many other communities as well. There are so many conflicting reports. With all the technology there seems to be very little information. PLEASE POST FACTS! IT WILL HELP THOSE WONDERING!

“It is a terrifying situation and I’m grateful to the firefighters and all of the good Samaritans who are helping people get out of the way of the blaze. Neighbors have taken care of neighbors. We ALL take everything for granted because we are all living our lives but when it hits your community, it’s particularly shocking. Life on life’s terms. If ever there was need for the use of the phrase MY HAND IN YOURS, it is right now. Take care of each other. Stay out of the way and let the firefighters do their work. Pray if you believe in it and even if you don’t, pray for those who do.”

The actor appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon later that day, with the episode seeing Curtis admit she felt like she was ‘literally about to cry’ shortly after sitting down to chat with the host.

While noting she felt like crying ‘mostly because of [receiving a] beautiful welcome’, Curtis continued: “As you know, where I live is on fire right now. Literally, the entire city of the Pacific Palisades is burning.”

The actor explained she found out about the devastation that was occurring while on a plane flying over to California, receiving texts informing her what was happening.

She said: “It’s f**king gnarly, you guys. It’s a catastrophe in Southern California. Obviously there has been horrific fires in many places. This is literally where I live. Everything. The market I shop in, the schools my kids go to, friends.”

Curtis revealed ‘many, many, many’ of her friends have ‘lost their homes,’ emphasizing’ it’s a really awful situation’ before urging people to help where they can.

She resolved: “I am obviously going to go home first thing tomorrow and be with my family and try to help my friends, but it is – just so I can tell you, if you know anybody on the West Coast or not, the American Red Cross, support them. They will come in and help people. Do anything you can, anything in your community to help people. Whether you need it or not now, you will need it.

“Give blood, donate, animal shelters.

“And remember, since I’m on the middle of a very big television show, for anybody living anywhere, have an emergency kit in your house. I’m an American Red Cross ambassador – have an emergency kit with prescription glasses, medicines, dog food, baby formula, all the things you need if you need to flee.”

In another updated shared to Instagram, Curtis said: “Our home is safe. So many others have lost everything. Help where you can.”

Skin Blackhead Treatment

Skin Blackhead Treatment

Blackheads are a very common type of acne that many people deal with.

They can appear on the face, back, chest, and other areas of the body. Although blackheads are more likely to develop in people who have oily skin, anyone can experience them.

Blackheads form when the pores of the skin get clogged. This happens because of a mix of dead skin cells and oil (also called sebum) produced by the sebaceous glands. When the pore remains open and the trapped material reacts with the air, it darkens, forming what we know as a blackhead.

If you struggle with blackheads, there’s good news! Dr. Allison Britt Kimmins, a dermatologist, explains that many over-the-counter products are available to help. These products often contain special ingredients that can exfoliate the skin, soften the blackheads, and sometimes even remove them entirely.

Exfoliation is an important step in managing blackheads. It helps remove the dead skin cells that clog the pores. Many products contain ingredients like salicylic acid or glycolic acid, which are known to clean the pores and prevent new blackheads from forming. Another helpful ingredient is benzoyl peroxide, which can reduce bacteria and inflammation, making the skin look clearer.

If you’re looking to treat blackheads, it’s important to use gentle products that won’t irritate the skin. Scrubbing too hard can damage the skin and make things worse. Instead, follow a regular skincare routine that includes cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing.

There are also other options, like pore strips and extraction tools, but they should be used carefully to avoid hurting the skin. In more severe cases, visiting a dermatologist can provide additional solutions, such as professional treatments or prescription-strength products.

With the right care and patience, blackheads can be managed effectively, leaving your skin healthier and smoother over time.

Joe Rogan recalled a frightening conversation he had a with a firefighter

Joe Rogan’s bleak prediction about Los Angeles has unfortunately come true.

130,000 have been forced to flee their homes in California as wildfires continue to ravage parts of Los Angeles.

At the time of writing, five people are reported to have died in the blaze that’s expanded from 300 acres to more than 27,000 in just over 24 hours.

More than 1,000 buildings are said to have been destroyed in the fires, including several celebrities’ homes.

One famous face to have received the heartbreaking news that their property went up in flames is Paris Hilton. The DJ, model and socialite tragically watched her home burn down on live television.

Hilton said ‘the devastation is unimaginable’ as she shared her condolences to other people in the area going through the same thing.

Unfortunately, wildfires in California aren’t uncommon, but the extent of the current fires spreading across the state have been hailed as ‘unprecedented’.

LA police department chief James McDonnell added that he’s ‘never seen anything like this’, The Guardian reported.

While the extent of the fires have shocked many, podcaster Joe Rogan made a bleak prediction last year about extreme wildfires destroying most of LA.

Speaking in an episode that aired in July 2024, Rogan recalled a conversation he had with a firefighter.

“I talked to a fireman once. This is one of the reasons it freaked me out,” Rogan said.

“He goes: ‘Dude, one day, it’s going to be the right wind, and the fire’s going to start in the right place, and it’s going to burn through LA all the way to the ocean. And there’s not a f**king thing we can do about it.”

Rogan went on to say that firefighter said that ‘we just get lucky’ when it comes to the extent of the wildfires the city’s had in previous years because of the wind.

“These fires are so big, dude,” the podcaster continued to tell his co-hosts.

“They’re talking about thousands of acres that are burning simultaneously with, like, 40mph winds.

“The wind’s just blowing embers through the air and those embers are landing on roofs, and those houses are going up [in flames].”

Rogan added: “It happens in a way that’s so spread out that there’s nothing [the fire department] can do.”

Five different wildfires have broken out in the city: The Palisades Fire, the Eaton Fire, the Sunset Fire, the Hurst Fire and the Lidia Fire, CBS reports

As of today (January 9), zero percent of the blaze has been contained.

What are blackheads?

Plenty of people would count blackheads among the most common — and most stubborn — skin conditions. This type of acne develops when oil (sebum) and dead skin cells combine to form a plug that clogs your pores.

Sometimes, cleansing and exfoliating may be enough to loosen the plug and draw it out. But if the plug hardens, or it’s too deep to access, you might not be able to remove the blackhead on your own.

Below, you’ll find tips on how to use over-the-counter (OTC) products for blackheads, information on what to expect from professional removal, and more.

For home removal, start by cleansing

Your first step should always be to cleanse your face.

There’s a right way to wash your face — find out how here.

Cleansing is best done twice each day: once in the morning and once again at the end of your day. If you work out or get sweaty during the day, you may want to wash your face again afterward.

That said, try to avoid over-cleansing. This can dry out your skin and cause more dead skin cells and sebum to accumulate in your pores.

Tip: If you prefer to wash your face more frequently, try limiting cleansing to morning and evening washes and rinsing with plain water throughout the day to avoid drying out your face.

The type of cleanser you use can also make a difference in blackhead removal and prevention.

Many people prefer gel-based cleansers, which:

  • aren’t oily like some cream-based cleansers
  • are typically safe for both oily and sensitive skin

A daily cleanser with micro-exfoliants can also help remove dead skin cells.

Use a physical exfoliant

Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells, sebum, and other debris from the surface of your skin.

When it comes to physical exfoliants, you have plenty of options, but avoid choosing anything too harsh that will irritate your pores. Ground-up nuts and other harsh beads may irritate active breakouts or sensitive skin.

Consider something simple, like a do-it-yourself (DIY) natural option or an over-the-counter (OTC) scrub with gentle ingredients, like oatmeal.

You’ll generally want to follow the instructions on the product you choose, but this is a good starting place for most exfoliants:

  1. Apply a thin layer of exfoliant.
  2. Spread it evenly over your skin.
  3. Massage — don’t scrub — it into your skin.
  4. You might need to leave it on your face for several minutes, but check the product package to be sure.
  5. Once the process is done, rinse off the product completely.
Open your pores with a steam session

Steam can help loosen the gunk that’s clogging your pores, setting you up for a more effective extraction process. You don’t need a spa steamer to get these benefits, though.

To open your pores with steam at home, try this technique:

  1. First, boil up to 6 cups of water in a pot or kettle.
  2. Let the water cool for a minute or two.
  3. Carefully pour the water into a bowl.
  4. Sit in front of the bowl, resting your face about 6 inches above the water.
  5. Drape a towel over your head and the water source to hold the steam in.
  6. Raise or lower your head for more or less heat. Lift a corner of the towel to cool off, if needed.
  7. Stay for up to 10 minutes at a time.
Apply a clay or charcoal mask

Exfoliation and steam help get your pores ready for extraction, but your skin’s not quite ready yet. Applying a mask first can help make extraction even more successful.

Use either a clay or charcoal-based mask. These ingredients help deeply cleanse the pores, and you’ll want to get as much dirt and oil out of your pores as you can before using an extractor tool.

How to do it:

  1. Apply a thin, even layer of the clay or charcoal mask to your face.
  2. Leave the mask on for about 15 minutes.
  3. Rinse your face thoroughly with warm water.
Use an extractor tool

After loosening your pores and applying a mask, you can try extracting deep blackheads yourself.

Here’s how:

  1. Sterilize your extractor tool with rubbing alcohol.
  2. Press the loop face down on the edge of the blackhead you’re trying to remove. Just avoid pressing directly down in the middle of the blackhead, as this can irritate your pore.
  3. Once you’ve got the head of the tool in place, make a gentle sweeping motion to the other side of your pore.
  4. Repeat up two more times if you don’t get the plug out the first time — any more than this can irritate or damage the surrounding skin.

Always sterilize your tool between uses to prevent the transfer of dirt and bacteria between pores.

Apply a cooling gel mask or soothing serum

After extracting debris from your pores, it’s important to soothe your skin to prevent inflammation. You can do this with a cooling gel mask or face serum.

When choosing a mask or serum, opt for anti-inflammatory ingredients such as green tea, vitamin E, and almond oil. Apply a small amount in an even layer.

If you’re using a gel mask, rinse after use and follow up with the rest of your skin care routine.

Whatever you do, don’t squeeze or pinch

Squeezing out a blackhead might feel tempting, especially if you can’t safely extract it the first time around.

But the advice you’ve probably heard before is true: You really shouldn’t pinch, poke, or squeeze out a blackhead, since this can potentially lead to:

  • irritation
  • pores that appear larger
  • scarring

What about pore strips?

Although pore strips are touted as a way to remove blackheads without picking, they often do more harm than good.

These strips target surface debris, which often does little to resolve deep blackheads. They can also dry out and irritate your skin.

Do home remedies work?

Although a quick internet search might reveal dozens of “home remedies” for blackhead removal, none have been proven to work.

In fact, some of these purported remedies might even make your acne worse.

If you do decide to try a home remedy, exercise extreme caution. Performing a patch test by applying the substance on your forearm first and waiting overnight can help you gauge how your skin will react.

Home remedies that can be harmful

Certain everyday ingredients recommended as blackhead “remedies” can do more harm than good.

These include:

  • apple cider vinegar
  • baking soda
  • Epsom salts
  • lemon
  • toothpaste

Many people believe these ingredients help absorb oil and get rid of dead skin cells. The problem is, they may be too drying, so using them can lead to irritation, swelling, and more breakouts.

Home remedies that might not be effective

Some purported remedies aren’t necessarily harmful — they just might not always work.

These include:

  • egg whites
  • green tea
  • honey
  • yogurt

You’ll often find these ingredients in recipes for homemade masks because of their antioxidant and hydrating properties — but these benefits won’t do anything for deep blackheads.

What about options for professional removal?

Unless you’re experiencing severe pain or swelling, professional removal usually isn’t necessary.

If you’re not getting the results you want at home, consider making an appointment with a dermatologist or aesthetician to talk about your concerns.

They may recommend one of the following removal techniques:

Professional extraction

After making a small hole in the clogged pore, your dermatologist or aesthetician will remove the plug with a looped-end metal extractor tool.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion offers deeper exfoliation than OTC options, like scrubs.

A dermatologist or aesthetician will use a crystal-emitting handpiece to gently spray fine crystals onto the skin. The device will rub and suction off the outer layers of dead skin. They may also use a diamond-tip handpiece to exfoliate more sensitive areas, such as around your eyes.

This technique may also help reduce the appearance of enlarged pores.

Chemical peels

A professional chemical peel removes the entire top layer of skin, reducing blackheads and other debris.

Just keep in mind that your skin may be more prone to sunburn during the recovery process. When spending time outdoors, you’ll want to take extra caution to protect your skin from the sun — sunscreen is essential, but a hat can’t hurt, either.

Laser therapy

Laser therapy is sometimes used on breakouts that don’t respond to other treatments.

For deep blackheads, dermatologists use photopneumatic therapy. The process involves a combination of intense pulsed light lasers and a hand-held vacuum.

Using these together allows your dermatologist to get deep into your pores to remove dead skin cells and excess sebum.

For best results, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends one or two follow-up sessions per year.

Tips for prevention

Deep blackheads can take time to remove safely and effectively. Once you’ve got the gunk out, the strategies below can help prevent them from coming back.

  • Use noncomedogenic products. Noncomedogenic is code for “non-pore-clogging.” Also look for oil-free sunscreens and lotions to help prevent clogged pores.
  • Remove makeup before bed. Cleansing at night helps remove makeup, but sometimes residue is still left behind. Consider adding a pre-cleanser to remove all your makeup.
  • Wash your hair regularly. Not only will your locks stay healthy and soft, but you’ll also get rid of oils and dirt that can get on your face and clog your pores.
  • Be sure your hands and nails are clean. Keeping your nails clean can help minimize dirt and oil transfer.
  • Wash your pillow cases and bedding. Aim to wash these once a week to get rid of any dirt and oil on your sheets.
  • Add salicylic acid to your skin care routine. Salicylic acid dries out dead skin cells that accumulate in your pores, thereby decreasing the chances of blackheads. Try a face wash, toner, or moisturizer that contains salicylic acid to get these benefits.
  • Consider glycolic acid. Regular use can help your skin shed dead skin cells, preventing clogged pores. You can find glycolic acid in moisturizers and OTC peels.
  • Ask a dermatologist about prescription retinoids. Retinoids are derivatives of vitamin A. While primarily recommended for inflammatory acne, they may also help control excess oils that contribute to blackheads.
  • Avoid overusing acne products. Combining several products that contain salicylic acid, sulfur, benzoyl peroxide, and other acne-treating ingredients can dry out your skin. Ironically, this can cause more blackheads, because overly dry pores may end up producing more sebum to help hydrate your skin.
  • Eat a balanced diet. Certain foods and nutrients — including dark green and yellow vegetables and fruits, omega-3 fatty acids, and whole grains — can promote overall skin health. Drinking plenty of water can also help balance out sebum and aid in skin cell turnover.
The bottom line

Getting rid of blackheads often proves something of a challenge, but it’s definitely possible — one or more of the home removal techniques mentioned above could make a difference.

That said, if you don’t see improvement within 6 weeks, consider making an appointment with a dermatologist or aesthetician to learn more about your options for professional treatment.

Law enforcement reveal new details after two dead bodies were found on plane after it landed

The JetBlue flight had left New York and landed in Florida when the bodies were discovered

Law enforcement have shared new details following an investigation into the two bodies that were found on a plane after it landed in Florida this week.

The JetBlue flight had departed from JFK airport in New York shortly before 8pm on Monday (January 6) and landed at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, Florida, at 11:10pm, some 28 minutes later than scheduled.

Upon arrival, an airline worker inspecting the plane’s landing gear stumbled onto two dead bodies inside the wheel well.

A spokesperson for the airline issued a statement that confirmed two people were found deceased in the compartment of the aircraft but did not reveal their identities while the authorities carry out their investigation.

Now, new details have emerged as the case continues.

Radioing into Broward County Sheriff’s Office at 11:26pm, an unidentified person said: “A gate technician in the landing gear area noticed two males who appear to be Signal 7, advised they are not moving in the landing gear area,” as recorded on the website Broadcastify. Signal 7 is cops code for a dead body.

Carey Codd, of the force, told CNN: “The individuals who [are] deceased are both males. Beyond that, their identities at this time are unknown.”

A law enforcement official also told the outlet that the two bodies were badly decomposed when they were found, which could indicate the men were onboard for a long time or possibly even multiple flights.

“The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform autopsies to determine the causes of death of both individuals,” Codd said.

The Airbus A320 jet had had a busy day on Monday, according to FlightAware data, as it departed from Kingston, Jamaica, at 1:10am before landing in JFK a little more than three and a half hours later.

The jet then headed for Salt Lake City International, landing at 10:34am after a five hour flight, and back again to JFK before concluding the day in Florida.

The Federal Aviation Administration warns the landing gear compartment is deadly as many don’t realize how small the space becomes when the wheels are retracted.

Stowaways can lose consciousness from a lack of oxygen or can die from either being crushed to death or freezing once the jet reaches its cruising altitude.

A 2011 FAA report found 80 percent of people who crawl into an aircraft’s external compartment die.

The Transportation Security Administration continues to investigate the deaths with the help of local law enforcement and the FAA, but the National Transportation Safety Board said it is not investigating because ‘it appears the incident had no involvement of the flight crew or operation of the airplane’.

JetBlue also said in a statement: “This is a heartbreaking situation, and we are committed to working closely with authorities to support their efforts to understand how this occurred.”
