ChatGPT co-founder hits back at Elon Musk after the billionaire insisted he'd purchase the company

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, which runs ChatGPT, has made his stance pretty clear

A group of investors led by Elon Musk have submitted an unsolicited bid for ChatGPT which has been met with a sharp – albeit polite – response from the CEO of OpenAI.

On Monday, (February 10) Elon Musk’s attorney, Marc Toberoff, confirmed a group of investors led by the Tesla CEO had submitted a bid for ‘all assets’ of artificial intelligence chatbot software ChatGPT, which is ran by OpenAI.

Musk and Sam Altman co-founded OpenAI in 2015 as a non-profit company and in 2019, Musk left the company with Altman becoming chief executive.

However, since OpenAI announced its plans to shift to become more of a ‘for-profit corporation,’ Musk has launched a bid to try and regain control of the company alongside a team of other investors.

Musk said in a statement on the day: “It’s time for OpenAI to return to the open-source, safety-focused force for good it once was. We will make sure that happens.”

Musk’s attorney Toberoff added: “As the co-founder of OpenAI and the most innovative and successful tech industry leader in history, Musk is the person best positioned to protect and grow OpenAI’s technology.”

And Altman has since seemingly responded to Musk’s bid, taking to Twitter yesterday to simply state: “No thank you but we will buy twitter for $9.74 billion if you want.”

The bid is being backed by xAI – Musk’s own artificial intelligence company – alongside investors such as Valor Equity Partners and Baron Capital, The Wall Street Journal reports.

It comes off the back of Musk launching a series of legal complaints against OpenAI, accusing it of betraying the reason it was initially set up in 2015 in the first place as a non-profit to benefit all of humanity – claims branded as ‘baseless’ by an OpenAI spokesperson.

Toberoff added: “If Sam Altman and the present OpenAI, Inc. Board of Directors are intent on becoming a fully for-profit corporation, it is vital that the charity be fairly compensated for what its leadership is taking away from it: control over the most transformative technology of our time.”

During the AI Summit in Paris, earlier this morning (February 11), Altman added to Sky News: “The board will decide what to do there [….], the mission is really important and we’re totally focused on making sure we preserve that.

“The company is not for sale, neither is the mission.”

Footage reveals moment man was arrested in connection with teenager who vanished forever while waiting for bus

Australian native Daniel Morcombe was abducted during a solo day out

Warning: this article contains discussion of sexual assault of a minor that some may find distressing

Chilling footage shows the moment police cracked an eight-year-old case and arrested a man who had murdered a teenager.

Back on December 7, 2003, Daniel Morcombe, then 13, had planned a solo day out where he planned to have a haircut before buying Christmas presents for his family.

The Australian teen had reportedly made the trip to the Sunshine Plaza shopping center in Queensland ‘more than a dozen times before’, according to a report on the case from the Coroners Court of Queensland obtained by PEOPLE, and would do so via bus.

The bus stop was less than a mile from where the teen lived, so there really was no concern from his parents, Bruce and Denise.

But they became worried when Morcombe hadn’t returned from his expedition up the Sunshine Coast, so they got local authorities involved.

The teen was declared a missing person after an initial search, and his disappearance later turned into a murder investigation.

As part of the search, police spoke to 33 individuals who had been identified as a person of interest, including then 29-year-old Brett Peter Cowan.

Police footage captured the moment Cowan was detained on August 13, 2011, which began with officers telling him to remain where he was after initially confronting him.

As per ABC News, Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Blanchfield said: “We are investigating the abduction and murder of Daniel Morcombe.”

Cowan then decided to go on his mobile phone, where he was seemingly talking to someone on the other end. He subsequently asked the officers if he was under arrest.

Trying to pretend the officers weren’t even there, Cowan was arrested for the murder of Morcombe, all while he remained calm and uttered: “Yep, cool.”

“I’m under arrest for Daniel’s, Daniel Morcombe’s murder,” he then said into his phone.

Cowan was seen driving in video footage taken near where the child disappeared, while waiting for his bus at about 2pm, officials stated.

While Cowan was initially cleared of any wrongdoing due to lack of evidence, a successful undercover operation saw Cowan admitting to abducting and assaulting Morcombe.

The man told a covert officer that he’d parked in a parking lot at the Christian Outreach Center and walked down to speak to Morcombe.

A filing states he took the child to an abandoned house, before the boy was killed within an hour.

Cowan is said to have sexually assaulted him and choked the teen when he tried to escape.

He disposed of Morcombe’s remains in ‘an old sand mining site’ before discarding his clothes and shoes.

In March 2014, Cowan was sentenced to life behind bars with a minimum of 20 years without parole.

Elon Musk has changed his Twitter name and it's caused crypto chaos

The billionaire is causing chaos in the crypto sphere in a way only he can

As the richest man in the world, Elon Musk can certainly have a big influence, and he has done just that for one cryptocurrency coin.

The billionaire has caused the Harry Bolz cryptocurrency coin to skyrocket in just a few hours.

How did he do it?

Well, by changing his Twitter profile name to… you guessed it, Harry Bōlz.

In case you missed it, Harry Bōlz is a play on… well, come on, you can work it out.

And it’s seemingly on brand for Musk, who tends to take to social media with the silliest puns and jokes.

Richest man in the world making a balls joke... (Twitter/Elon Musk)

Richest man in the world making a balls joke… (Twitter/Elon Musk)

But as massive as this was, interestingly enough, this wasn’t the first time he has pulled a stunt like this, briefly having this be his handle back in April 2023.

Back then, he admitted that it was just a stunt, writing in a post: “Tbh, I’m just hoping a media org that takes itself way too seriously writes a story about Harry Bōlz …”

The reason why he has made the change this time around isn’t quite clear, however.

As you can imagine, people on Twitter have been losing their minds and hoping to make some money off this massive surge.

One user wrote: “So I opened X this morning and saw another Musk imposter. Click on his profile, and Harry Bolz is actually Elon Musk. What a time to be alive!! You can not make this sh*t up! Happy Tuesday Everyone!”

Another said: “Elon Musk has changed his Profile name to ‘Harry Bōlz’.

“After changing his Profile name the price of the #HARRYBOLZ token increased by more than 475x in less than 2 hours.

A third commented: “so Elon musk just rebranded to harry bōlz and the internet is speedrunning meme history—world record pace.

With another writing: “Elon musk just changed his name on twitter to Harry Bōlz.

“This coin is about to go parabolic. YOU ARE EARLY.”

However, some people were less than impressed, with one person simply writing: “Elon is a child.”

And another adding: “Can we quit pretending this has anything to do with trading? It’s just a bunch of gambling addicts throwing their money in a pot trying to outmaneuver each other.”

Google Maps leaves people confused after officially renaming the Gulf of Mexico

I’m sure this won’t ever get more confusing in the future

Most people wouldn’t put renaming the Gulf of Mexico high up on a priority list for America, but the change has now come into effect following President Donald Trump’s executive order.

Since his return to The White House for his second term, Donald Trump has been incredibly busy signing executive orders left and right.

Ranging from banning transgender women participating in women’s sport to ‘ridiculous’ paper straws, his plans for the US have sparked a number of discussions, however, one has officially come into practice.

From his inaugural speech, the businessman made his intentions clear to change The Gulf of Mexico’s name to ‘The Gulf of America’, continuing to push his motto of ‘Making America Great Again’.

Speaking about the name change in his speech, he said: “America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on Earth, inspiring the awe and admiration of the entire world. A short time from now, we are going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.”

In an executive order he signed not long after becoming President, the Gulf was described as ‘an integral asset to our once burgeoning Nation and has remained an indelible part of America’, as well as ‘a crucial artery for America’s early trade and global commerce’.

Google then confirmed they would make the change on Google Maps, but what name that was displayed would depend on the viewer’s location.

However, this is still causing confusion on social media as some people were unaware that their location factors in, while others who live in the US said it doesn’t appear solely as the Gulf of America.

This is what Google has claimed will appear for users searching for the Gulf of Mexico depending on their geographical location (Google)

One person on Reddit said: “I’m in Georgia, USA and my Google maps app says gulf of America,” adding: “If I zoom out really far it changes back to Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America).”

Another said: “In Brazil it’s still showing up as only Golfo do Mexico,” while someone else wrote: “Same here (Germany): it says Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America). Apple maps still just says Gulf of Mexico and nothing else.”

In a press release, the tech company said: “In the U.S., the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) has officially updated ‘Gulf of Mexico’ to ‘Gulf of America.’ People using Maps in the U.S. will see ‘Gulf of America,’ and people in Mexico will see ‘Gulf of Mexico.’ Everyone else will see both names.”

A Google spokesperson also explained in a statement why they are updating the name, adding: “We have a longstanding practice of applying name changes when they have been updated in official government sources.

“When that happens, we will update Google Maps in the US quickly to show Mount McKinley and Gulf of America. Also longstanding practice: When official names vary between countries, Maps users see their official local name.

“Everyone in the rest of the world sees both names. That applies here too.”

Emily Willis's attorney shares new update after former adult star left 'permanently disabled' following devastating health struggles

The former adult actress suffered a cardiac arrest after being admitted to rehab last year

Emily Willis’ attorney has issued a major update on the former adult star after she was left ‘permanently disabled’ from going into cardiac arrest at a rehab center.

The film star joined the adult industry in 2018 after dating GirlsDoPorn director, Andre Garcia, and went on to star in more than 700 pornographic films.

But Willis, 26, had been admitted to Summit Malibu rehab center in February 2024 for ‘ketamine addiction’, having ingested some ‘five to six grams’ of the drug every day for a year.

It was there that she experienced a cardiac arrest and fell into a ‘vegetative coma’.

Willis – real name Litzy Lara Banuelos – was found unconscious on February 4 for an unspecified amount of time, with paramedics attempting to restart her heart for 30 to 40 minutes.

Her family have since filed a lawsuit which states the lengthly time she was left without oxygen caused ‘irreversible brain damage’.

Willis is now semi-conscious and is being cared for by her mom at home.

And since, her attorney, James A. Morris from Morris Law Firm, has issued a major update on Willis’ health.

Morris confirmed she can now ‘move her body somewhat’ and make outward noises.’

In an interview with the Daily Star, he revealed: “She does make outward noises from time to time, she does move her body around some, but her eyes do move, she does track, whether or not she’s understanding exactly what’s going on is hard for us to determine, I don’t know.”

He added: “We are retaining a physiatrist to work as an expert witness on our case who will go to Utah examine her and hopefully be able to give us more info about his expert opinion to what extent she understands what’s happening around her.”

Morris also said that despite now being under her mom’s care, Willis needs to return to hospital ‘from time to time’ to ‘have more care than she can receive at home.’

And while it was previously speculated Willis could’ve developed locked-in syndrome – a rare neurological disorder characterized by complete paralysis of voluntary muscles, except for those that control your eyes – Morris confirmed she ‘hasn’t been diagnosed yet’.

“I will preface that by saying we have not received the medical records […] yet,” he told the publication. “But yes, we are investigating that and drilling down on that. We are aware that it is certainly a possibility.”

The star is also physically ‘not in good shape’ after losing ‘a great deal of weight’ and not being able to move much, Morris explained.

Despite this, he remained hopeful and spoke of Willis’ determination.

“…Her physical condition is not good, her mental condition is unknown, but she’s still here. I think that in and of itself says something about her resilience and her desire to live.”

He resolved: “And with modern medicine and the advances that we have in science, we can all hope that Litzy gets back to the functioning level that makes her life worthwhile.”

Urgent warning for iPhone users after Apple is targeted by ‘extremely sophisticated’ security threat

Apple users are being urged to update their devices

An urgent warning has been issued to iPhone users after Apple has been the subject of ‘extremely sophisticated’ security threat.

While we can all do things to ensure our devices are as secure as they possibly can be, some things are out of a consumer’s control.

And when a giant such as Apple is targeted, it can be a problematic situation for those who use the company’s products on a daily basis.

Essentially, the tech company wants users to update their iPhones as soon as possible to ensure the risk to this threat is minimised.

Those who haven’t downloaded the security patch could potentially be left at risk, with Apple warning hackers could possibly take complete control of devices.

The updates, iOS 18.3.1 and iPadOS 18.3.1, are available to download on the iPhone XS and later, iPad Pro 13-inch, iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later.

Meanwhile, the update is also an option on iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation, iPad Air 3rd generation, iPad 7th generation, and iPad mini 5th, and all the subsequent versions that followed.

Apple said: “A physical attack may disable USB Restricted Mode on a locked device. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals.”

The company noted: “For our customers’ protection, Apple doesn’t disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or releases are available.”

The Daily Mail reports that there have so far been no reports of a hacker taking over an individual’s Apple device, but the company has pre-warned its users nonetheless.

Late last year, iPhone users were warned about a phishing email that could permanently lock them out of their Apple ID account.

The fraudulent email told users to click on a link to verify their account, redirecting them to another page that steals their login details like their username and password.

It also managed to knick two-factor authentication information, which led to Apple issuing a warning to its users.

“Apple will never ask you to log in to any website, or to tap Accept in the two-factor authentication dialog, or to provide your password, device passcode, or two-factor authentication code or to enter it into any website,” the tech giant said on its website.

A pilot has passed away following a private jet, registered to Mötley Crüe vocalist Vince Neil, crashing into another plane

Mötley Crüe and Vince Neil have offered their ‘thoughts and prayers’ after a private jet registered to the frontman crashed and killed a pilot.

Yesterday afternoon (February 10), a private plane owned by Neil crashed into another plane at Scottsdale Airport, Arizona as it was arriving from Austin, Texas.

Neil was not on board, however, his girlfriend, Rain Andreani and her friend are reported as having been involved in the collision, alongside a co-pilot and pilot – with the pilot reported as having passed away.

Mötley Crüe took to social media to release a statement on the incident, as per FOX 10 Phoenix.

In a since-deleted post, the group confirmed ‘a private plane owned by Vince Neil was involved in a crash near Scottsdale, AZ’ and ‘the pilot was tragically killed’ with ‘the co-pilot and other passengers were taken to local hospitals’.

“Vince was not on the plane. Vince‘s girlfriend and her friend suffered injuries, albeit not life-threatening,” the statement continued. “While details are still emerging, our hearts go out to the families about the pilot who lost his life in the passengers who suffered injuries.”

It resolved: “Mötley Crüe will announce a way to help support the family of the deceased pilot -stand by for an announcement very soon.”

And the group has since shared a statement from Neil’s representative too.

The statement reads: “At 2:39 p.m. local time, a Learjet aircraft Model 35A owned by Vince Neil was attempting to land at the Scottsdale Airport. For reasons unknown at this time, the plane veered from the runway causing it to collide with another parked plane.

“On board Mr. Neil’s plane were two pilots and two passengers. Mr. Neil was not on the plane. More specific details regarding the collision are not available as this is a rapidly evolving situation and there is an ongoing investigation.

“Mr. Neil’s thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved, and he is grateful for the critical aid of all first responders assisting today.”

The incident remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which stated ‘a Learjet 35A veered off the runway after landing and crashed into a Gulfstream 200 business jet on the ramp at Scottsdale Municipal Airport in Arizona’ and noted it was ‘temporarily pausing flights into the airport’ as a result.

The Scottsdale airport confirmed at the time an ‘accident’ had occurred ‘upon arrival to runway 21’.

“Fire Department is on scene assessing the situation. Scottsdale Airports runway is currently closed,” it said.

Airport public information office Kelli Kuester added: “A Learjet aircraft on its arrival from Austin veered off the runway and collided with another jet, a Gulfstream 200 aircraft, that was parked. It appears that the left main gear failed upon landing, resulting in the accident.”

Scottsdale Fire Department Captain Dave Folio said: “We had five patients we treated. One was a fatality, we had two immediate that were transported to local trauma centers, we had one delayed patient and one patient that refused treatment.”

Man who battled four brain tumors reveals bizarre symptom he experienced before diagnosis

The dad-of-one noticed one particularly strange occurence before he received his devastating diagnosis

A dad who has had to fend off four brain tumors over the last 14 years has revealed the bizarre symptom he experienced before his diagnosis.

Dan Horrocks, 33, was first diagnosed with a brain tumor back in August 2011 after receiving a free eye test at an opticians.

The optician noticed swelling on Dan’s optic nerves during the eye scan, and just one day later he was having brain surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Birmingham, UK and a round of radiotherapy.

But just when Dan thought the nightmare was over, three years later in 2014 he was diagnosed with another brain tumor, then a third in 2018, and finally another in October last year.

Following his latest round of treatment, Dan has revealed an unusual symptom he experienced before one of his diagnoses – and it’s bizarre.

Ahead of his third diagnosis, Dan said he started craving olives – despite having never liked them before. And not only that, but he also started craving spinach and tomatoes for breakfast too.

The third tumor was picked up in a routine scan, but Dan and his wife, Sonia Khan, noticed the unusual symptom beforehand.

All of Dan’s tumors have been ependymomas – rare tumors which usually affect children around age five or adults around age 45.

He had brain surgery in November and spinal surgery in December for his latest diagnosis, but the tumors are in cells which line the paths where cerebral spinal fluid moves through the spine, and the cancer could come back anywhere in his spine or brain.

Doctors have said that Dan has had the maximum radiotherapy they can safely give him on the NHS, and chemotherapy is only likely to be 14 percent successful in treating his tumors.

Now on his ‘last roll of the dice’, Dan is raising money to go to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, to explore new treatments including genetic testing to find a personalized remedy.

He and his wife have raised over $60k (£50k) so far – exceeding their fundraising goal by over $10k.

The money will be spent on travel and consultations – including genetic tests on Mr Horrocks and his tumor samples – to see if a personalized treatment can be found.

Dan was diagnosed with his first of four brain tumors after suffering excruciating headaches, sickness, and dizziness. He had to learn to walk, talk and ‘think’ again after his first surgery.

Following the influx of donations for his fundraising mission, Mr Horrocks said he was ‘bowled over’ by the generosity he’s received.

He said: “I’m so shocked and overwhelmed with how quickly the money has come in. This could be the first step towards an innovative new treatment we can bring to the UK.

“The NHS staff have all been amazing – they said they can do surgeries but not much else more. That felt a bit like the end of a road and I’ve always tried to avoid that.”

Darren Carvill is back behinds bars after stealing from his employer

An employee who stole over $325,000 from the company he worked for spent most of it in just two days during a ‘weekend of madness’.

We’ve all had heavy weekends where we have spent a bit too much on food and drink, right? But imagine spending over $300,000 in a single weekend.

I mean, it’s not possible for the vast majority of us, but it was for Brit Darren Carvill, who began by defrauding Mr Clutch, a car servicing company in the UK.

Back in 2019, he was jailed for two-and-a-half-years after spending the majority of the stolen $325,000 (around £260,000) on partying in London, while he was also seen taking cocaine and with as many as ten female escorts, LBC reports.

After serving his time in prison for that crime, Carvill changed his surname to Medhurst, which allowed him to get a job as a finance assistant for 360 Travel, an independent travel agency in the UK.

The conman then got back to his old ways, stealing over $95,000 between July and August 2022 from the travel company, a court heard. And after suspicions grew there and Carvill was even the subject of a police investigation, he decided to start a new gig at the hotel chain Holiday Inn.

Carvill’s new employer became suspicious when he began acting strangely and even stopped showing up to shifts at one point.

The employee claimed his mom had dementia, though later admitted to officials in a police interview he took the money to ‘make himself feel better’.

Prosecutor Stacey-Lee Holland said: “He said he had been down at the time and this was a way to make himself feel better.”

Speaking of what happened at the second job, the travel agency, the prosecutor said: “He entered the office, completed a refund of £9,784 ($12,100) and paid it onto his bank card. He did that almost immediately on having entered work that day.

He has previously spent time in prison for fraud-related crimes (Facebook)

“He then went into the cash office, opened the safes and removed £3,261 ($4,000) in cash, hiding it in his jacket.

“He was blatant in his actions because, as he left, he lifted his jacket, showing the cash, and said to a colleague ‘See you in the morning’ and left the hotel.”

Meanwhile, Katie Bacon, Carvill’s defence lawyer, said he had ‘deep remorse’ over his fraudulent actions.

He had 57 previous convictions, with a staggering 52 of them being fraud-related offences.

Following the Holiday Inn incident, Carvill now faces a period of three years behind bars.

Speaking to him in court, Judge Julian Smith said: “You are not a victim. Others are the victims. Your name carries that stain of dishonesty by what you did. By not declaring it is misrepresenting your background. You may want to wipe the slate clean. You can’t do that by not declaring.”

MrBeast gets unrestricted access to Great Pyramids of Giza and people are shocked at what's inside

YouTuber MrBeast received 100 hours of exclusive access to the famous Pyramids

MrBeast was lucky enough to receive unrestricted access to the Great Pyramids of Giza, and what he found inside left his fans stunned.

The YouTuber – real name is Jimmy Donaldson – documented what it was like to spend 100 hours exploring Egypt’s Great Pyramids.

Joined by renowned Egyptologist and former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt, Dr. Zahi Hawass, the crew were granted exclusive access to tombs, tunnels and chambers that have remained off-limits to the public for centuries. Along the way, the expert addresses the popular myths surrounding the pyramid’s origins with true, jaw-dropping evidence and ancient illustrations.

Their journey began inside the Great Pyramid of Giza, where the crew explored a royal tomb believed to have once held a mummified pharaoh.

“4,600 years ago, this chamber may have contained the king’s mummified body,” MrBeast described in the video, adding that: “This is where the pharaoh was buried.”

The adventure then leads the group into seldom-seen locations, such as the submerged Tomb of Osiris where ‘very few humans have ever been’.

The submerged tomb has a symbolic connection to the afterlife, Dr. Hawass explained and legend has it that the tomb was ‘a gateway to the underworld’.

MrBeast added: “This sarcophagus is allegedly the portal to the underworld and virtually no humans have ever been here before.”

Does it get cooler than this? You bet!

After cutting their exploration short in the tomb due to ‘low oxygen levels,’ the group moved on to the Great Sphinx of Giza, where rumours of buried treasure have circulated for centuries.

Here, MrBeast decided to add his own piece of history and leave a ‘letter for the future’ along with his own golden artefact – a ‘Gold Swarm’ collectable worth $10,000.

“I guess the internet conspiracy theories are right because the Sphinx definitely has gold in it now, thanks to the rarest Swarm in the world,” the 26-year-old remarked.

The viral video has already racked up over 65 million views on YouTube and safe to say, fans are in complete awe over the footage.

“As an Egyptian, this is the first time I see and hear about the things shown in this video!” the first comment read, as another viewer wrote: “I’m Egyptian and this is the first time to see this magical footage inside our pyramids, thank you for this effort and you are welcome any time in Egypt.”

“Ok this is by far the coolest vid you’ve ever made,” another viewer added.

Meanwhile, some fans wanted more footage, arguing: “We need an extended cut of this, must be hours worth of cool content”.

To wrap up the adventure, MrBeast and his crew scaled to the very top of the Great Pyramid. But this was not before ‘struggling through narrow passageways’ and a 300-foot tunnel to reach its lowest depths.
