Jack the Ripper’s identity has finally been ‘solved’

A man who discovered a DNA sample on a 100-year-old shawl says it has identified the real Jack the Ripper.

Researcher Russell Edwards claims he has found a ‘100 percent’ DNA match with the infamous murder suspect in a recent interview with The Sun.

The Ripper has been known as the unidentified serial killer who committed his crimes in London’s Whitechapel district in 1888.

He is believed to have murdered at least five women – Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly – between 31 August and 9 November of that year.

Who has been identified as Jack the Ripper?

Now, Edwards has extracted DNA from a shawl which was recovered from the scene of one of his victims. And the researcher says the name has come back as ‘Aaron Kosminski’, a barber from Poland who emigrated to London.

“It’s very difficult to put into words the elation I felt when I saw the 100 percent DNA match,” he told the outlet. “This brings closure and it’s a form of justice for the descendants.

“He can’t be prosecuted because he’s dead but this is the closest thing they can do. This man committed atrocities towards their ancestors and we know it’s him and we want the courts to say, ‘Yes, you’re right’.”

For Edwards to get the most accurate DNA result, he found a living relative of Kosminski who was happy to be tested against. The positive match, according to the Ripper expert, means he may have finally cracked the case.

Has scientific analysis solved the mystery of Jack the Ripper?

“We put a huge amount of science that the shawl didn’t belong to the victim, and if it didn’t belong to the victim… because we always thought that the semen on the shawl was just one of her customers,” Edwards previously told LADbible.

“We thought it was her shawl, but through the scientific analysis, we realised that she couldn’t have afforded to own it and realised the only person that could have left the shawl at the murder scene was him.”

Dr Jari Louhelainen of Liverpool John Moore’s University carried out forensic analysis of the shawl, which provided Edwards with his DNA evidence.

Although, Edwards insisted that police did actually know who he was.

He said: “Robert Anderson wrote his memoirs, The Lighter Side of My Official Life, and in there they admit they knew the identity of Jack the Ripper.

“They also say they knew the identity of the guy who wrote the name Jack the Ripper in the ‘Dear Boss’ letter but they didn’t want to tell tales out of school.”

Don’t get caught out!

Carnival Cruise Line has issued a ‘cabin flasher’ warning to all its guests after a rather unfortunate incident on a recent holiday.

The incident happened on a Carnival cruise ship that had been docked in port, with one particular passenger left absolutely distraught at what she had accidentally been showing the entire world.

Carnival Cruise Line’s brand ambassador and senior cruise director, John Heald, was forced to post a lengthy statement on the incident so that other passengers don’t fall foul of the same faux pas.

The issue came as a result of going to sleep in one place and waking up in a very different part of the world – with a very different setting outside of their cabin.

‘Cabin flashers’

“Are you a cruiser who likes exposing yourself? Come on, we are all mates here,” Heald playfully wrote on his Facebook page. “Do you cover up or do you say, ‘No, sod it, what’s the point having this and not showing everyone else how amazing it is?’.

“If you do then I am sorry but you are a flasher. A cabin flasher.”

Adding a bit more context to the situation, Heald said he was ‘talking about people leaving the curtains open so that when you dock in port and there is a ship docked right next to you they can see into your cabin’.

From there they can ‘have a good view of everything in the cabin and possibly you wearing a Carnival bathrobe that is not one size fits all’.

Guests ‘enjoying the show’

Heald explained that one recent incident on the Carnival Liberty was what prompted his gentle reminder to guests.

He said that one woman in particular ‘had not drawn the balcony cabin curtains before going to bed and both her and her partner, woke up, stood up and started to potter about the cabin ‘au naturel’ as they say in Cleveland, Ohio, before realising that guests on the Carnival Legend were enjoying the show’.

An absolutely mortifying situation to come to terms with.

“It is perhaps a warning to close the curtains if you have a balcony or ocean view cabin,” Heald advised.

It is just the latest bit of advice courtesy of Heald, who recently told passengers about important travel documentation changes they needed to be aware of if they were set to visit the UK or Europe.

He has also issued a warning about the important safety reason behind not drying your clothes on your cabin balcony.

The former Disney star shared an emotional video on Instagram earlier this week

Selena Gomez has reportedly lost 715k followers in the last 30 days after sharing a video of herself crying over Donald Trump’s actions in his first week in office.

The Only Murders in the Building star, 32, appeared to be visibly upset a day after the newly sworn-in US president ordered a nationwide immigration crackdown, in which the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said there were 956 arrests last week.

Now, according to Social Blade, the ‘Calm Down’ singer has lost over 715,000 followers in the last 30 days, at the time of writing.

The follower loss may, or may not, be down the video she shared on 27 January, in which she said: “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand.

“I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

Shortly after, she took the video down and uploaded an image of a black screen with the words: “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people.”

Meanwhile, ICE statistics have revealed that over 1,000 people were removed or repatriated last week.

Trump said the state of the US-Mexico border was a ‘national emergency’, and has ordered American armed forces to police the border.

He claims that Mexican drug cartels are ‘foreign terrorist organisations’, and that automatic citizenship granted to children of undocumented immigrants that were born in the country will now be limited.

This comes after Kim Kardashian reportedly lost just under 150,000 followers on Instagram after sharing a photo of First Lady Melania Trump.

The Kardashians star, 44, uploaded a picture of Trump’s wife from his inauguration, which saw him become America’s 47th president.

Taking to the platform, she seemingly shared a photo of Melania’s outfit, made by New York designer Adam Lippes.

However, it appears some may have taken it as a ‘political stance,’ even though the mum-of-four never publicly disclosed who she was voting for in the Presidential election.

According to influencer marketing agency Socially Powerful, her follower count dropped by 144,963 last week, as reported by the New York Post.

But the internet seemed to be pointing out how little of an impact it has made on her remaining 359 million followers.

“I’m sure she’ll recover,” one person tweeted, as a second agreed: “Literally nothing for her.”

“It’s going to take at least 4 years for society to recalibrate,” a third person joked.

“OMG! How will I ever sleep tonight knowing this? BBBWWAAAHAHAHAHAHA,” another wrote.
