Coronation Street is reportedly set to kill off Craig Tinker as Colson Smith exits the cobbles after 14 years as the local police constable.

It was confirmed in January that Colson would be leaving the ITV soap after more than a decade, with the actor himself sharing the news with fans.

‘Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker’s time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025,’ he wrote on Instagram at the time.

‘I’ve loved every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the greatest street in the world. I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street.

According to The Sun, Craig will be killed off, with the long-running soap intent on giving him a hero’s goodbye.

‘Craig has grown up on the street and he’s become part of it so it was a tough decision to make but one that will be worth it,’ a source told the publication.

‘PC Tinker will meet his maker in heroic circumstances this summer and there won’t be a dry eye in the house when it goes out.

‘Colson is taking it well and there’s a real feeling that this chapter is closing for him and there are bigger and brighter things ahead.

‘He’ll film his final scenes later this month and then he’ll say goodbye to Craig once and for all.’

Metro has reached out to Coronation Street for comment.

Addressing the reception he received in the wake of his exit, Colson revealed that he’d received a message from Barbara Knox, who plays Rita Tanner.

‘She said: “People come and go all the time… and there’s some people who are there who love the show. You’re one of those people and I just want to say thank you for all the time that I’ve spent with you and the way that you treat me”.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters are at the scene of a fire near Tottenham Street in #Fitzrovia. Please avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed due to smoke travel.
People have been warned to stay away from the area

A huge fire has ripped through a building in central London filling the area with smoke.

Smoke can be seen across London’s skyline after the London Fire Brigade were called to a blaze at mixed-use building near Tottenham Street in Fitzrovia this morning.

The LFB said six fire engines and 40 firefighters were in attendance, and urged people to avoid the area.

One local resident named William, who lives on an adjacent street, told Metro: ‘We woke up to the smell of fire and smoke in our house.

‘At first, the street was filled with a thick yellow haze. When we went outside, we saw a building—possibly a nail shop—on fire.

‘Even as I was leaving for work, the area was still covered in heavy smoke, and fire brigades were actively working to contain it.’

One witness @weberolivier wrote on X: ‘It absolutely stinks here in Oxford Circus. The air is hazy with smoke.’

Hannah, who works on the street, told Metro there is still a heavy emergency services presence in the area.

She said: ‘There were still remains of smoke when I came into work later this morning.

‘But there were still lots of fire engines and other emergency service vehicles about.’

Ambulances were also pictured at the scene.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The LFB said: ‘Half of the ground floor is alight.

‘One of the Brigade’s 32-metre turntable ladders is being used at the scene to help fight the fire from above.

‘Control Officers took the first of 14 calls at 0743 and mobilised crews from Soho, Euston, Islington and surrounding fire stations to the scene.

Pierce Brosnan makes surprising statement about the future of James Bond

Pierce Brosnan has said he would be ‘interested’ in returning as James Bond.

The 71-year-old actor portrayed 007 in four movies between 1995 and 2002 – GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day – and would be tempted to reprise his role as the famous spy.

However, he conceded that it would be better for ‘fresh blood’ to lead the franchise in a new era under Amazon’s creative control, following a recent bombshell billion-dollar deal with longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

‘Of course, how could I not be interested? But it’s a delicate situation now. I think it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie, really. I think so,’ he told GQ, while confessing that it was ‘a rather romantic notion and idea’.

But while noting that ‘everything changes, everything falls apart’, the Black Adam star added: ‘I think that it’s best left to another man, really. Fresh blood.’

His comments come at a time of enormous change for the franchise following over three years of no announcements regarding the next Bond actor or film.

The character last graced our screens in 2021’s No Time to Die, where he was dramatically killed off before an onscreen credit promised that James Bond ‘will return’.

Over the years, many actors have been discussed as contenders for the part, including front-runner Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 34, who was even reported as having filmed the famous opening gun barrel sequence and as having been offered the part last March – but it was swiftly denied by insiders.

Who would you want to see play James Bond?Comment Now

Other rising stars reportedly in the frame have included James Norton, Challengers star Josh O’Connor and Wicked and Bridgerton actor Jonathan Bailey.

Since the news of Amazon taking full control of Bond though, Harris Dickinson, 28, has become popular with the bookies, while The Brutalist star Joe Alwyn, 34, said he would ‘throw his hat in the ring’ for the role if it was possible.

Under the control of half-siblings Broccoli and Wilson, children of legendary original 007 producer Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli, there were strong feelings that the next actor cast should be British – as well as male and in his 30s – while directors were known to have had to concede final creative say on matters to Broccoli.

This could all change now, as Amazon MGM Studios looks to confirm the bosses who will herald James Bond into his next era.

Elsewhere in the interview, Brosnan, who has enjoyed an acting career that has spanned for over four decades, described the pleasure he gets from having the freedom to be selective when it comes to taking parts.

‘I’ve always lived an artistic life. So I’ve always had the good fortune to have some piece of talent that I can polish and some kind of passion for the work to go through the rough patches,’ he commented.

‘I mean, I love what I do, and certainly now at a time in my life where I have choices and more importantly, I have the warmth and the desire to do good work, to challenge oneself, to create something that is unexpected, to create something that has value.’

Brosnan’s 1999 heist movie The Thomas Crown Affair, initially filmed in 1968 with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, is being remade once again with Michael B. Jordan in the lead role.

The Mamma Mia! star is supportive of the ‘gifted actor’s’ new take on the picture, which he insists is ‘all his for the doing and the taking’.

Cineworld is going all out for the release of Wicked, and we couldn’t be more excited

‘I really love heist movies, it’s why I made the remake and the timing for me was perfect in the days that were of MGM and James Bond. So, yes, good luck. I wish him every success,’ he added.

Barclays is set to pay up to £12.5 million in compensation to people who have been hit by outages over the last two years.

Customers were left angry after the outage at the end of January caused days of payment disruption.

This coincided with payday for millions of people and for those submitting self-assessment tax returns.

Then again at the end of February, other banks were all down in an ‘industry-wide’ outage.

It is expected that Barclays will pay between £5 million and £7.5 million in compensation to customers for ‘inconvenience or distress’ caused by this years outages, the Treasury Committee of MPs heard.

This is on top of £5 million for other outages from January 2023 to February 2025.

It will be the second highest amount paid out by a firm in the last two years, after the Bank of Ireland.

While Barclays has suffered issues, the nine top banks and building societies had outages totalling 803 hours, with 158 individual IT failures.

The bank with the longest outage was NatWest with 194 hours of failures.

The second longest period of services being down was at HSBC with 176 hours of disruption.

The January outage was caused by a ‘severe degradation’ in the mainframe computer, something used to bulk data processing.

This resulted in the failure of 56% of Barclays’ online payments.

The committee said it is investigating IT problems at all banks to see what the issue is.

Chair of the Treasury Select Committee, Dame Meg Hillier MP, said: ‘For families and individuals living paycheck to paycheck, losing access to banking services on payday can be a terrifying experience.

‘The fact there has been enough outages to fill a whole month within the last two years shows customers’ frustrations are completely valid.

‘The reality is that this data shows even the most successful banks and building societies hit technical glitches. What’s critical is they react swiftly and ensure customers are kept informed throughout.’

This is the best takedown yet…

“Where does this go from here and does Congress any roll in it at all?” Kelly was asked during an appearance on CNN.

“Well, we have a roll. We do our own negotiations. We do our own diplomacy so to speak,” said Kelly. “So we do have a roll. We can push the administration. Hopefully, we can get them to come back to the negotiating table here.”

“But we are in a much worse position,” he continued. “Our European allies especially are looking at this and they’re thinking to themselves what just happened? What happened to the United States of America? It used to be the leader of the free world.”

“And you know I pointed out in our meeting this morning you know that I was rather disappointed that our country, we’re about to celebrate our 250th birthday. Which is a big deal. And it’s exciting,” said Kelly. “But now we’re dealing with one of our allies like this is a business transaction. I mean, that’s not the way we have traditionally done things and so where do we go from here?”

“I mean, I think the president and the vice president need to figure out how do they pick up the pieces from this total disaster and get back to the table and negotiate in a way that is who were are as a nation,” he continued.

“I mean we have principles, we have values, and we don’t berate our allies in the Oval Office,” said the former astronaut. “I’ve never see anything like this before. And throughout our entire history there have been a lot of tense negotiations between countries. We don’t do this in public. This did not get us anything.”

“And I think it’s important for the American people to understand because of what happened today we are all less safe,” Kelly went on. “And I’ll tell you there is one winner in this, one winner, and if you watch Russian TV tonight or tomorrow morning you will see that they’re going to cover this.”

“They’re going to he happy about this. Putin and his cronies are probably popping champagne bottles right now,” Kelly concluded.

On Tuesdays we wear…?

Democratic lawmakers have spoken out about what they were trying to ‘signal’ by attending Donald Trump’s first joint session of Congress dressed in pink

On Wednesdays we wear… Oh wait.

Well, at Donald Trump’s first joint session of Congress yesterday (Tuesday, March 4), dozens of Democrats turned up for the 47th President of the United States’ speech wearing pink. And no, it wasn’t because they’re trying to rewrite Regina George’s rules, but protest multiple of Trump’s instead.

Fashion has long been a form of protest and the Democratic Women’s Caucus – composed of all the Democratic women in the House of Representatives – continued its championing of women’s rights by donning pink for Trump’s speech to Congress.

Of the 96 members of the caucus, dozens were present in the US Capitol’s chamber wearing items of pink clothing.

Representative Teresa Leger Fernández (D-NM) – who serves New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District and is the Chair of the Caucus – told TIME members of the group wore pink to ‘signal [their] protest of Trump’s policies which are negatively impacting women and families’.

But why pink?

Well, Fernández explained pink is ‘a color of power and protest’ and the group wanted to ‘rev up the opposition and come at Trump loud and clear’, explaining: “Women have worn pink in opposition to Trump before, and we will do it again.”

The Democratic Women’s Caucus later released a ‘rebuttal’ to Trump’s joint address, explaining what the group is protesting in further detail.

Shared to YouTube, the video sees Fernández slamming ‘nightmare’ Trump’s ‘lies’.

She says: “We heard President Trump lie about what his policies mean to our country. The reality? Trump is a nightmare. He is a nightmare for America’s women. And we won’t rest until we defeat the policies.

“Compare his words with the rising prices people are paying at the grocery store, in the gas station. Compare his words with your own life experience and worries.”

She resolved: “We’re protesting Trump’s policies which are devastating to women. We can’t afford groceries, he’s stealing our health care and he’s threatening our safety and security.”

Indeed, Fernández isn’t the only to protest against Trump’s stance on America’s healthcare system with lawmaker and Democrat Al Green ending up escorted out of the chamber during Trump’s address to Congress after standing up and interrupting the president in protest of his controversial cuts to Medicaid.

Doug Ford had warned contracts would be cancelled with those who ‘encourage economic attacks’ on Canada

A Canadian Premier has just cancelled an eye-watering $100 million contract with Elon Musk in retaliation for the US President’s tariffs.

Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario, Canada, has announced the province has shredded its contract with Musk’s satellite internet company Starlink in retaliation amid the North American trade battle, reports CBC.

Ford also stated he would ban all US-based companies from taking part in any further provincial procurement after slamming Trump for having ‘chosen chaos’ over shared prosperity.

The move comes as the 60-year-old MPP threatened to shut off power to 1.5 million US customers when American President Donald Trump announced new ‘catastrophic’ tariffs on the country.

There was a 30-day pause on the plans, but Trump signed off on the plan to roll out 25 percent tariffs on Canadian exports and 10 percent tariffs on Canadian energy this week.

The 47th POTUS said not long after returning to the White House in January that China, Mexico and Canada ought to be held ‘accountable for their promises to halt the flood of poisonous drugs into the US.’

Aggravating tensions, Trump said the only ‘solution’ for Canada to dodge the tariff would be to become a ‘cherished’ 51st state.

Starlink is a subsidiary of SpaceX, founded by tech billionaire mogul Musk, who also heads the US president’s cost-cutting Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) task force.

The company only signed a contract with the province in November last year to provide high-speed internet to 15,000 homes and businesses in rural and remote areas by summer this year.

But when asked about the contract at a press conference on Tuesday (March 4), Ford said: “It’s done, it’s gone.”

“We won’t award contracts to people who enable and encourage economic attacks on our province and our country,” he added.

The decision comes after Ontario’s primary liquor wholesaler and retailer confirmed it would also no longer buy or sell US alcohol.

The Premier also reiterated his threat to switch off power in the US by warning lawmakers in New York, Michigan and Minnesota that if the trade war ‘persists’, Ontario will hike up a 25 percent surcharge on electricity flowing through the border state, and could pull the plug on the flow entirely.

In the same spirit, he also said the province could surcharge or cut off mineral exports to the US.

Ford said: “This is not the outcome anyone wanted.

“We could have poured our efforts into making Canada and the US the two richest, most successful, safest, most secure two countries on the planet. Unfortunately, one man — President Trump — has chosen chaos instead.”

The province fears the import levies could prompt a disaster in many vital Ontario industries, like auto manufacturing and steel production, while hiking retail prices and fanning the flames of inflation.

Ford added: “We also need to be ready to dig in for a long fight.

“We need to be ready to escalate using every tool in our tool kit.”

As per the Toronto Sun, Ford, who won a third majority last week, also previously said: “If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do anything, including cutting off their energy — with a smile on my face.

“They need to feel the pain. They want to come at us hard? We’ve got to go back twice as hard.”

Body language expert claims Melania Trump was feeling ‘discomfort and anger’ during Trump’s Congressional address

The First Lady might not be such a big fan of the limelight

Melania Trump was forcing a positive expression when she was introduced by her husband ahead of his Congressional address, according to an expert.

With Donald Trump back in the White House, this has meant that his wife, Melania Trump, has also stepped back into the limelight.

As First Lady, she has already attempted to make some law changes, as she made a rare appearance earlier this week when she called on lawmakers to crack down on ‘revenge porn’.

Speaking to Congress on Tuesday (March 4) Donald Trump brought attention to her work, which resulted in the First Lady getting a wave of applause across the room.

However, a body language expert has suggested that Melania may not have really enjoyed that moment.

Speaking to UNILAD on behalf of Prime Casino, Darren Stanton argued that Melania was actually frustrated about this mention and uncomfortable more than anything.

He added that her ‘smile’ was out of politeness rather than genuine joy at being mentioned by her husband as part of his address to Congress.

He said: “She doesn’t seem to like attention, she doesn’t like having focus brought on to her. They are not genuine smiles of elation. You can see from her eyes and the tension in her mouth that it was a very forced smile.

“She was not happy at all to have everyone looking at her. There were no crow’s feet and the top half of her face was not engaged in the smile at all.

“Trump likes to shift attention towards her but she would clearly rather remain out of the limelight. She was visibly very embarrassed and uncomfortable.”

Stanton also added that Trump continuously insists on putting Melania in the spotlight despite her apparent feelings towards this.

He also pointed out the clear differences in behavior when someone looks to be genuinely smiling and happy.

He added: “The key tells of a genuine smile are wide eyes, raised eyebrows and the mouth slightly open. Melania didn’t exhibit any of these. On the contrary her eyes actually seemed to tighten and her eyebrows pulled together and she pursed her lips.

“This suggests that beyond merely being embarrassed, she was actually quite angry. She did not want to be in the limelight and Trump always insists on putting her there. There were clear signs of discomfort and anger.”
