The American trade wars are continuing to escalate as nations clash

Mexico has hit back with tariffs of their own after Trump hit the country with a 25 percent levy on imports into the US today.

President Claudia Sheinbaum isn’t backing down to Donald Trump as the US and Mexico continue to clash over trading goods.

This comes after Trump signed off on an order to ‘hold China, Mexico and Canada accountable for their promises to halt the flood of poisonous drugs into the US’ by placing 25 percent tariffs on goods imported from Canada and Mexico, and 10 percent on China, which has since been doubled to 20 percent after China retaliated with their own tariffs.

On Tuesday (March 4), Sheinbaum announced that her country will respond to this move with its own retaliatory tariffs on US goods.

However, Sheinbaum did not yet reveal what those goods would be. She explained that this announcement will come on Sunday (March 9) at a public event in Mexico City’s central plaza.

This has given people hope that there is still a route of de-escalation possible.

Speaking on the trade war between the two nations, she said: “There is no motive or reason, nor justification that supports this decision that will affect our people and our nations.”

She continued: “It’s inconceivable that they don’t think about the damage this is going to cause to United States citizens and businesses with the increase in prices for things produced in our country.

“Also the damage it will cause by stopping job creation in both countries. No one wins with this decision.”

Sheinbaum has also addressed the ‘fact sheet’ that was published by the White House on March 3 where it claimed that Mexican drug traffickers persist because of ‘an intolerable relationship with the government Mexico’.

Sheinbaum dismissed it and called it ‘offensive, defamatory and without support’.

She also argued that her administration has had many success in its war against the cartels highlighting that they have seized over a ton of fentanyl and have successfully been able to dismantle 329 methamphetamine labs.

The Mexican president also reiterated that the government was cooperating with the US government to combat the cartels and as recent as last week had sent 29 alleged drug cartel criminals requested by the country.

She added: “We collaborate to avoid illegal drug trafficking to the United States, but as we have said on multiple occasions, that country’s government must take responsibility too for the crisis of opioid consumption that has caused so many deaths in the United States.”

The first lady is pushing to make ‘revenge porn’ and deepfake sex images a federal crime

Melania Trump has made a rare appearance to urge lawmakers to crack down on so-called ‘revenge porn’ by making it a federal crime.

First Lady Melania Trump appeared before Capitol Hill on Monday (March 3) to push for a bipartisan bill that would tackle non-consensual pornography being shared online as well as AI-generated intimate images.

The 54-year-old former model said artificial intelligence is being used nefariously to create ‘deepfake’ porn images of victims without their consent and create a ‘toxic’ space online for young people to navigate.

The proposed Take It Down bill would make it a crime to post and create such images and would apply pressure to technology companies to remove the content within 48 hours, the BBC reports.

In her first public appearance in the new Trump administration, the first lady told the panel: “It’s heartbreaking to witness some teens, especially girls, grappling with the overwhelming challenges posed by malicious online content, like deepfakes.”

The bill had already passed the Senate with bipartisan support, being brought by Republican Ted Cruz (Texas) and supported by Democrat Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota).

However, it still needs to pass through the House of Representatives before being written into law.

Melania continued: “In an era where digital interaction are integral to daily life, it is imperative that we safeguard children from mean-spirited and hurtful online behaviour.”

If passed, websites and social media platforms that feature user-generated content will have to implement a ‘notice and takedown process’, the NY Post reports, of two days once being flagged by a victim.

Meanwhile, perpetrators who share explicit images without consent, whether authentic or with AI, could face up to three years behind bars if the material involves a minor or two years if the victim is over 18.

“By advocating this bill, Congress can take an important step towards ensuring accountability and fostering responsibly online behavior,” Melania said.

“The Take It Down Act represents our first step towards justice, healing and unity.”

The mom-of-one also took aim at Democrats for what she described as failing to lend their public support towards the Act.

“I was heartened to learn that Senator Cruz and Senator Klobuchar united to prioritize this fundamental matter,” she continued. “I must admit, however, I expected to see more Democrat[ic] leaders with us here today to address this serious issue.

“Surely as adults, we can prioritize American children ahead of partisan politics.”

Senator Cruz, who is a father to two daughters, also said at the roundtable: “If you’re a victim of revenge porn or AI-generated explicit imagery, your life changes forever.

“Disturbingly, many of these victims are teenagers at American high schools.”

Ro Khanna, Democrat (California), added: “I represent Silicon Valley. America should lead in making sure that technology protects kids and protects people. And I think this bill, as you’ve crafted it, Senator Cruz, balances the free-speech concerns with the protections.”

The panel also heard testimonies from victims of deepfake pornography, which spans from school children to adults.

Last year, fans rallied around pop star, Taylor Swift, who was one of many famous women to become a victim of AI fake nudes.

According to Politico, House Energy and Commerce Chair Brett Guthrie has vowed the panel will schedule a hearing on the bill in the next few weeks.

The campaign comes as the Slovenian native usually avoids the spotlight, but occasionally speaks out on issues close to her heart.

During her husband’s last term, she spoke to members of Congress about the country’s foster-care system and other online schemes to protect youngsters, such as the ‘Be Best’ initiative which seeks to combat cyberbullying.

The floats have sparked a massive debate online

Graphic floats mockingly depicting US President Donald Trump and Elon Musk have sparked a massive debate online as people discuss the satirical move.

As Germany begins to celebrate carnival season, people around the world were brought to the attention of a few particular floats in Cologne and Düsseldorf this week.

It is safe to say none of the floats painted Donald Trump, Elon Musk or Vladimir Putin in the most flattering light.

The floats were designed to be satirical and showed caricature versions of the individuals while also making rather bold statements.

One float showed Musk wearing a diaper with the logo of the German far-right political group Alternative for Germany (AfD) as he fled from a person trying to put him in a straight jacket.

He is also seen shouting into a megaphone with the Twitter logo on it that is spewing out poo all the while, waving an American flag cut out in the Nazi symbol.

Most have concluded the message isn’t intended to be subtle.

Trump and Putin are also depicted in a float, referencing the ongoing tension between Trump and Ukraine. Putin and Trump are shown shaking bloodied hands with a small Volodymyr Zelenskyy being squeezed in the middle.

The float also read ‘Hitler-Stalin Pact 2.0’, in reference to the non-aggression treaty signed between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany in 1939.

Many have taken to social media to comment on the flurry of floats, especially the one of Musk, and things have certainly started to heat up.

Some have praised the boldness of the display with one user writing: “Elon Musk performed a “roman” salute, called Hitler a communist, and endorsed a far-right party in Germany—yet his fanboys are outraged because a Düsseldorf carnival float depicted him next to a swastika? The irony is almost painful.”

Another said: “Those Düsseldorf floats roasting Trump, Putin, and Musk are pure gold! Germany’s carnival satire nails the absurdity of these leaders. Cheers to calling out their chaos with creativity!”

However, others dismissed the move as out of touch and ridiculous.

One person not amused said: “It’s wild how quickly things escalate. Art and satire have always pushed boundaries, but this level of political commentary seems pretty intense.

“Everyone’s got their own views, but it’s important to keep conversations respectful and grounded in facts.”

With another adding: “Imagine how obsessed and threatened they must be by Elon? This whole thing and he lives in another country.”

Zelenskyy and Trump butting heads has left some with a lot questions

A mic was able to capture the final moments of the spat between Trump and Zelenskyy as they butted heads in the White House.

Despite a goal of peace talks to end the Ukraine and Russian war, Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy got rather heated in front of the cameras.

Zelenskyy headed to the White House last week on February 28 and sat down with Trump and Vice President JD Vance to discuss the conflict.

However, Trump reportedly asked the Ukrainian president to leave after they had an animated argument in front of the press in the Oval Office.

Vance argued that Zelenskyy was being disrespectful and should be thanking Trump and the US for its contributions to their war effort.

Zelenskyy retorted by asking “Have you ever been to Ukraine? Seen what problems we have? Come once.”

The Ukrainian president then reflected on how ‘during the war, everyone has problems’ and just because they don’t ‘feel it now’ doesn’t mean they won’t in ‘the future’.

Trump then butts in, arguing he’s ‘trying to solve a problem’ and saying Zelenskyy is in ‘no position’ to tell them ‘what [they’re] going to feel’.

A hot mic reportedly caught President Trump’s orders to his staff before kicking Zelenskyy out.

Trump instructed his aides to take the Ukrainian delegation to the Roosevelt room down the hall and it was here that Zelenskyy and his team were reportedly told Trump wanted them to leave.

Speaking to an aide as press left the room, Trump said: “You’re right, maybe we should [inaudible]. Let’s have a little something…

“Would you bring them to the Roosevelt Room?”

A White House official said: “The president has been clear that he is focused on peace. We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well.

“We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution.”

Zelenskyy has also issued a statement insisting that he is committed towards peace rather than an endless war.

In a statement he said: ”Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts.”

The worrying signs can be spotted from the very first date

Relationship experts have issued a warning over yet another worrying dating trend that appears to be on the rise.

From spotting red flag behaviors to learning the definitions of these emerging new trends (hello, micromancing and throning…), us singletons certainly have a lot on our plates.

But this particular practice, dubbed floodlighting, could ruin a potentially good thing before it’s already begun. And dating is already tough enough, right?

Worse still, floodlighting could be damaging for both parties – the floodlighter and the floodlightee, if you will – leaving both feeling down and deflated.

Jessica and Louella Alderson, co-founders of the dating app So Synced, explained to Glamour exactly what floodlighting is, how to spot the signs and its emotional impacts.

What is floodlighting?

Jessica explains that floodlighting is ‘about using vulnerability as a high-intensity spotlight.’

Dating, essentially, is about getting to know someone and sure, over time, this requires you to get vulnerable. Yet some people – perhaps without even meaning to – go all in.

From the off they’re spilling the nitty gritty details of their difficult childhood, their traumatic dating history and every job they’ve ever quit.

Jessica explains floodlighters might unleash this torrent of personal information ‘to test the waters, speed up intimacy, or see if the other person can ‘handle’ these parts of them.’

I’m feeling overwhelmed just thinking about it…

The signs of floodlighting

There are a number of floodlighting ‘red flags’ to be aware of – aside from the obvious ‘flooding’ of information.

If you’re on the receiving end, then you might notice your date analyzing your every reaction – and this is worth paying attention to.

“By sharing personal information, the person doing the floodlighting may be testing your boundaries – likely on a subconscious level – and seeing how much you are willing to accept or handle,” Jessica explains. “If you can see that someone is carefully watching your reactions to their disclosures, it could be a sign of floodlighting.”

The conversation feeling unbalanced – e.g, them oversharing and you not being able to get a word in – and feeling overwhelmed by detail might also be warning signs. Feeling as if the relationship is moving too fast too soon can be another red flag.

Risks of floodlighting

As mentioned before, floodlighting can be damaging for the mental health of parties on either side of the coin.

Jessica warns forming such a quick, intense emotional connection runs the risk of creating a ‘false sense of intimacy’ that may simply not be sustainable long-term.

And when this intensity fades, it can trigger a whole load of disappointment and anxiety.

What’s more, floodlighters could be putting themselves at risk of ‘being exploited or taken advantage of’ by someone who may not have their ‘best interests at heart.’

On the flip side, the floodlightee might end up feeling overwhelmed and suffocated. “It can be emotionally taxing to handle such intense disclosures and feelings in a short amount of time,” Jessica adds.

Floodlighting might also lay the foundation for an unhealthy relationship dynamic, where one person is seen as the ’emotional caretaker’ and the other as the ‘vulnerable, fragile one.’

Jessica explains that floodlighting usually stems from a place of insecurity and the fear of ‘not being enough.’

“It can be a way of preempting rejection by showing your most vulnerable self and hoping the other person will accept it. It’s like showing all your cards in a poker game in the hope that full disclosure will prevent any surprise judgments in the future,” she says.

Patrick Wilson admitted he felt like a dinosaur for how the scene was shot

Patrick Wilson has addressed long-held rumors about a film he shot back in 2006 with Kate Winslet where the pair got a little steamy.

Actor Patrick Wilson is well aware that in Hollywood things have changed significantly over the last 20 years.

Kate Winslet and Wilson starred together in the 2006 film Little Children, where they played two bored parents who eventually act on their mutual attraction after pairing their kids together in a string of play dates.

Fans of the film tend to fondly remember the moment the two get together as it is a rather steamy affair.

Speaking on the It Happened in Hollywood podcast, Wilson broke down the scene and admitted he felt like a bit of a ‘dinosaur’ being a part of it since the industry has moved on to include intimacy coordinators.

He said: “[Kate] was so cool and gracious and just a gamer – just like, ‘Let’s go for it.’

“There was never one awkward or weird moment. Never one. I loved it.”

Wilson also clarified that no body doubles were used to shoot the scene, so it really was him and Winslet butt-a** naked although they did use modesty coverings which were kept out of shot.

Admitting this, he had to address rumors that Winslet ended up with bruises thanks to the *vigorous* performance from the two actors.

He said: “I’m sure there were lots of bruises. Put it this way: I haven’t done a scene like that since post-#MeToo and intimacy coordinators.

“I do feel a little bit like a dinosaur when it comes to [having appeared in] those kind of love scenes.”

Around the time of the film’s release, Winslet also said she enjoyed filming the scenes and explained how the pair got the best out of each other for the performance.

Speaking on the intimate scene she said herself and Winston rehearsed the scene just the two of them fully clothed to get a feel for what would work on camera.

She said: “We rehearsed the scene fully clothed, without anyone in the room; just us and Todd, and we just got a general shape of the scene so we knew what to expect.

New marks seem to appear on Donald Trump's hand days after White House responds to large bruise that sparked health speculation

Marks have now appeared on the palm of the president’s hand

Concerns for the US President’s health continue to swirl after ‘new marks’ have apparently appeared on his hand, just days after the White House put rumors to bed.

On Monday (February 24), eagle-eyed viewers spotted what looked like a nasty yellow bruise on the president’s right hand while he met the French President, Emmanuel Macron, in the Oval Office.

Viewers took to social media to query the suspicious bruise with many growing concerned that the 78-year-old had a health issue, requiring an IV drip or blood test.

However, White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said the marks were signs the president has simply been busy at work, shaking hands.

Now, two new dark marks have reportedly appeared on the palm of his right hand as of Monday (March 3).

While announcing a $100 billion investment in the US from the world’s largest chips manufacturer – the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co – from the White House, the president gestured with his hands which showed he had a mark about the heart line in his palm and another below the head line.

The yellowed bruise on the back of his palm from last week was still visible.

Leavitt said in a statement about the mysterious bruise: “President Trump is a man of the people and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other president in history.

“His commitment is unwavering and he proves that every single day.”

She hammered home the point in a follow-up: “President Trump has bruises on his hand because he’s constantly working and shaking hands all day every day.”

While some admitted they weren’t convinced by the explanation, others said they didn’t think the bruise was anything American citizens should be worried about, given his age.

It’s also not the first time Trump has had marks on his hands, reports the Metro, as the president gave a similar explanation when bruises were spotted on his outer right hand in December.

He also had visible marks in August and November last year, the outlet added.

In response to the statement, one person on Twitter wrote: “Why even lie? It’s obviously an IV bruise for blood testing or something. Is it a surprise to people that Trump is old and gets regular physician visits?”

“It looks like IV bruises,” dozens of others said as many said they have similar marks after having their blood taken.

“He’s in is 70s,” wrote another. “Older people bruise easily. This isn’t some huge conspiracy.”

A fourth added: “Not uncommon in elders. If he’s on blood thinners that increases bruising. Could easily happen with a draw for labs or an IV or just hitting his hand accidentally on something.”

Others, however, pointed out the president does have a rather vigorous technique when it comes to shaking hands.

As reported in the Washington Post in 2017, Peter W Stevenson documented several ‘intense’ handshakes with world leaders and US officials.

He wrote: “Whether it’s just habit, or a way of asserting his power, Trump has a habit of pulling forcefully on the hand he’s shaking.”

How Russia has responded to Donald Trump's decision to stop military aid to Ukraine

The US’ decision to pause military aid coincided with a Russian drone attack on Ukrainian energy infrastructure

Here is how the Russian government has responded to the US President Donald Trump’s decision to pause all military aid to neighbouring Ukraine.

International relations have been spiralling since Trump’s disastrous meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday (28 February) at the White House, which saw the US leader tell Zelenskyy he was ‘gambling with World War III’ during an explosive televised argument.

The US government had been providing extensive military support to Ukraine since Russia invaded the eastern part of the country on 24 February, 2022, with Joe Biden’s administration providing the Kyiv government with $66.5 billion (£52.3 billion) in military aid before the end of his term.

Meaning that Trump’s decision to suspend support – which the administration supports their broader aim of ‘peace’ in the region – will come as a major blow to Ukraine.

Zelenskyy’s government is yet to respond publicly to the move, however Russia’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov has, branding Trump’s decision ‘the best contribution to the cause of peace.’

“It is obvious that the United States has been the main supplier of this war so far. If the United States stops being (an arms supplier) or suspends these supplies, it will probably be the best contribution to the cause of peace,” the Kremlin spokesperson said, via Reuters.

The move was also backed by foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov who called the president’s statements on Ukraine ‘common sense’.

Statements from the Kremlin praising Trump’s dedication to peace come amid reports that Russian military forces launched an overnight drone attack against energy infrastructure near the southern city of Odesa, injuring four people.

“A strike has damaged energy infrastructure, there are power cuts in parts of the city,” regional governor Oleh Kiper said on Telegram, via Sky News.

Various leaders have since reaction to the US decision to pause aid, with a UK government spokesperson saying Britain remains ‘absolutely committed to securing a lasting peace in Ukraine’.

Meanwhile, Vice-President JD Vance has doubled-down on his and Trump’s stance regarding Ukraine, saying the Eastern European country needs to give the US an economic interest in the region.

“If you want real security guarantees, if you want to actually ensure that Vladimir Putin does not invade Ukraine again, the very best security guarantee is to give Americans economic upside in the future of Ukraine,” he said.

Ukraine’s Prime Minister has since said the country was ‘very grateful’ for US support and was still committed to signing the minerals agreement.

Vance also criticised the decision of Britain and France to volunteer peacekeeping forces to the region, claiming the military forces from both nations hadn’t ‘fought a war in 30 or 40 years’.

Hackman and Arakawa’s neighbours spoke about the couple’s lives before they were found dead in their Santa Fe home

Gene Hackman’s neighbour has made a sweeping statement about the late actor and his wife, after they were found dead in different rooms of their own home.

Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found in their Santa Fe mansion last Wednesday (26 February), with evidence pointing towards the pair being dead for over a week before being found.

The 95-year-old two-time Oscar winner was found in a mudroom, partially mummified, with his sunglasses and cane on the floor, while Arakawa was found in the bathroom with bloating on her face and mummification in her hands and feet.

Sheriff Fe sheriff Adan Mendoza previously confirmed the deaths, saying: “We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail.”

Morgan Freeman presented a tribute to the late Hackman at this year’s Oscars, as members of the film industry mourned his loss.

Hackman starred in over 70 movies, and resided in New Mexico, USA, following the end of his acting career.

While Sheriff Mendoza said they ‘did not believe that foul play was a factor’, he later revealed that the pills found next to Arakawa’s body was a ‘significant’ piece of evidence as investigators also found one of their three dogs dead in a closet.

On Friday last week (28 February), he also said that Hackman’s pacemaker recorded its final heartbeat on 17 February, meaning it was ‘a very good assumption’ that it was the last day of his life.

There was also no carbon monoxide found in their bodies, dismissing any theories of a gas leak being the cause of death.

Now, almost a week on from their discovery, their neighbours have spoken up about the Hollywood legend, and how much they saw him.

While the exact causes of death are being investigated, the case has presented a lot of questions, such as how the couple’s deaths weren’t discovered for over a week.

Speaking to the New York Times, members of their gated private community five miles from Sante Fe revealed that they barely saw the celebrity couple.

James Everett, who lived part-time in a house next door for around five years, said: “They have a gate, and we have a gate, and we just have never even seen each other.”

Bud Hamilton, who lived in the other house next door for around 20 years, revealed that they only had dinner together once in that time.

Harvey Chalker, who has lived in the area for a considerable amount of time, said of the one time he met Hackman: “He wanted to be quiet, he didn’t want to be bothered, and I don’t blame him.”

He said that was their only encounter, when he bought hiking shoes from his shop.

Another nearby neighbour, Fernando Miranda, lived near the couple since 2018 and recalled being in the neighbourhood on 17 February, the reported day of their deaths, saying it was ‘saddening’ that the couple may have passed away then.

Beau Theriot is another homeowner that visits his house in the neighbourhood a few times away, recalling the time he saw Hackman and Arakawa walking down the road a number of years ago: “I know there’s some nice people up there, I just don’t know them.

Authorities have since stated that the case was ‘suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation’, though no foul play is suspected.

Mendoza added that he was ‘pretty confident’ of this, but explained: “But of course, we’re not ruling anything out.”

The high-profile pair were found by two maintenance workers, who said they had not seen the couple for two weeks prior.

Crossbow killer Kyle Clifford 'tied up' ex-girlfriend before murdering her family in 'violent act of spite'

Clifford’s trial began in Crown Court this morning

A court has today heard more horrific details of the case of the ‘crossbow killer’ Kyle Clifford, who murdered his ex-girlfriend Louise Hunt, 25, her mother, Carol and sister, Hannah last year.

Clifford was said to be planning ‘an attack on the Hunt family’ before being arrested on suspicion of murdering the three women at their family home in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on 9 July, 2024.

Opening the prosecution case today (4 March), Alison Morgan KC said that on 9 July last year, Clifford committed ‘acts of extreme violence’ against his former partner Louise and other members of her family after she ended their relationship.

Back in January, the Brit pleaded guilty to triple murder and false imprisonment of his former partner, Louise.

Morgan claimed that the couple broke up at the end of June and in the days following the split, Clifford made attempts to get Louise to take him back, but she refused.

The prosecutor continued: “This rejection angered the defendant. He was angry at Louise, but also at the Hunt family generally, as he correctly assumed that friends and family members had advised Louise to end the relationship with him.”

She added that Louise’s friends and family were concerned about the toll that the relationship was having on her, with one friend, Grace Sully, revealing that he had acted aggressively a number of times and had a ‘nasty temper’.

Hannah even told a friend that the family saw Clifford as ‘disrespectful, rude and arrogant’.

“The attack was carefully planned and executed, involving the deceit of Louise’s mother Carol Hunt, in order to gain access to the family home, followed by a brutal knife attack upon her,” Morgan said.

She went on: “[Clifford] then waited for Louise to enter the property, before restraining, raping and ultimately murdering her with a crossbow.

“He then killed Louise’s sister Hannah Hunt with the crossbow, when she returned to the property after work.”

Following his guilty plea on three counts of murder and the false imprisonment of Louise, Morgan added: “The only count for you to determine is that of rape. During the course of this prolonged incident of violence, the prosecution alleges that the defendant raped Louise Hunt.

“It was a violent, sexual act of spite, before he then killed her and you will have to determine that allegation against him.”

The court also heard that Clifford was seeing a number of other women behind Louise’s back.

Clifford denies raping his ex-girlfriend.

He pleaded guilty to stabbing Carol, 61, to death, and shooting Louise and Hannah, 28, with a crossbow in July last year.

BBC racing commentator John Hunt, the husband of Carol and father of Louise and Hannah, issued an emotional statement in September last year following the tragedy, saying on behalf of himself and his surviving daughter Amy: “The warmth from everyone at the track was so striking with hugs and kindness washing over me all day. My thanks to everyone who has contacted me, to Racetech who made things so straightforward and all racegoers who said hello.

“Amy and I are determined to take small steps forward whenever we feel able. To that end, today was a good day and I’m grateful for it.”
