The youngster came into contact with the deadly amoeba while swimming in a South Carolina lake

A 12-year-old boy has tragically died after contracting a brain-eating amoeba at a popular swimming spot.

Jaysen Carr died on July 18 shortly after having a dip in the Lake Murray, South Carolina, just outside of Columbia, US.

The youngster reportedly came into contact with the deadly brain-eating amoeba, Naegleria fowleri, while swimming in the man-made lake.

According to the CDC, Naegleria fowleri is a free-living ameba that thrives in fresh waters.

It gets its nickname as the ‘brain-eating ameba’ because, as the name suggests, it can infect the brain and destroy brain tissue.

The family’s lawyer, Tyler Bailey, told WIS-TV in a statement: “Jaysen’s family is grieving this unthinkable loss, but they are also grateful at the outpouring of love and support they have received from the community.

The boy was just 12-years-old when he succumbed to the brain infection (GoFundMe)

“The family has many questions about how and why Jaysen died and wants to do everything in their power to ensure this doesn’t happen to another family.”

GoFundMe for Jaysen described him as an ‘incredible son, a devoted brother and a true friend to everyone who knew him’.

“His kind heart and bright spirit left a lasting impact on everyone he met.”

The fundraiser, which has accumulated more than $47,000 at the time of writing, further reveals the child endured a ‘tough medical battle’ after his diagnosis.

The shocking fatality comes as the South Carolina Department of Public Health has stressed the boy’s death is not part of a wider public health emergency.

The body also warned that the single-cell organism can naturally occur in warm bodies of water, but infection in humans is extremely rare, as per WIS-TV.

It’s been almost a decade since the first case was ever reported in the state in 2016, while across the US, there have been only 167 incidents reported in the last 62 years.

According to the CDC, while brain infectors are rare, they are almost always fatal, with only four out of 167 surviving.

Though it typically lives in soil and warm freshwater lakes, rivers, ponds and hot springs across the planet, the CDC further warns Naegleria fowleri has been found in some poorly maintained swimming pools, splash pads and other recreational water spots – and even tap water.

In the event it goes up the nose of a human being, the condition can cause an infection in the brain known as primary amebic meningoencephalitis (PAM).

The agency notes early signs and symptoms of PAM include headache, fever, nausea and vomiting, and warns the infection ‘progresses rapidly’.

After exposure, most humans die within one to 18 days. The infected person typically goes into a coma first before dying after around five days afterwards.

Blackheads: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments

Blackheads: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments
Blackheads: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments
Blackheads, a mild form of acne, are caused by clogged hair follicles due to a buildup of dead skin cells and excess oil (sebum). They appear as small, dark bumps on the skin. Effective treatments include over-the-counter products containing salicylic acid or retinoids, regular exfoliation, and, in some cases, professional extraction or laser treatments for stubborn cases.

Causes of Blackheads:

  • Excess Oil Production:Overactive sebaceous glands produce too much sebum, contributing to clogged pores.
  • Dead Skin Cell Buildup:Dead skin cells don’t shed properly and accumulate in hair follicles.
  • Clogged Follicles:When these two factors combine, they form a plug within the hair follicle.
  • Oxidation:When the plug is exposed to air, it oxidizes and turns black, resulting in the characteristic appearance of blackheads.
  • Hormonal Changes:Fluctuations in hormones, especially during puberty, can increase oil production.
  • Certain Medications:Some medications can increase oil production as a side effect.
  • Genetics:Some individuals may be predisposed to more oily skin and therefore more prone to blackheads.

1. Topical Treatments:

  • Salicylic Acid:

A beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that exfoliates the skin and helps unclog pores. Look for cleansers, toners, or serums containing salicylic acid.

  • Retinoids (Vitamin A Derivatives):

These help increase skin cell turnover, preventing dead skin cells from clogging pores. They can be found in both over-the-counter and prescription strengths.

  • Benzoyl Peroxide:

Helps reduce bacteria and excess oil on the skin. Often used in conjunction with retinoids.

  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs):

Glycolic acid and lactic acid are examples of AHAs that can exfoliate the skin and improve blackheads.

2. Exfoliation:

  • Physical Exfoliation:Using scrubs or cleansing brushes to remove dead skin cells. However, be gentle to avoid irritation.
  • Chemical Exfoliation:Using acids like salicylic acid or AHAs to dissolve dead skin cells.

3. Professional Treatments:

  • Extraction:

A dermatologist or aesthetician can safely extract blackheads using sterilized tools.

  • Chemical Peels:

A stronger chemical peel can remove layers of skin and unclog pores.

  • Laser Treatment:

Lasers can target and reduce the oil production that contributes to blackheads.

  • Microdermabrasion:

A dermatologist uses a specialized tool to “sand” the skin, removing the top layers and freeing clogs.

  • Isolaz:

A vacuum suction and light therapy treatment that extracts congestion and kills bacteria.

4. Prevention:

  • Wash your face twice daily:Use a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser.
  • Use non-comedogenic products:Choose makeup and skincare products that won’t clog pores.
  • Avoid picking or squeezing:This can cause inflammation and scarring.
  • Consider a clay mask:Bentonite clay masks can help absorb excess oil.
  • Maintain a healthy diet:Limit processed foods and focus on fruits and vegetables.
  • Manage stress:Stress can contribute to oil production.
  • Protect your skin from the sun:Use oil-free sunscreen daily.

Why unknown Osbourne child moved out at 16 and never appeared on their TV show

With the sad announcement that Ozzy Osbourne has ascended to that rock and roll hall of fame in the sky at the age of 76, some fans are looking back over his past appearances.

His final performance was a concert watched by millions at Villa Park earlier this month where he performed from a throne decorated with a giant bat as he reunited with Black Sabbath.

Ozzy’s final gig managed to raise around £140 million for charity, with the proceeds going towards Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Acorns Children’s Hospice and Cure Parkinson’s.

Fans got a big look at his family life thanks to the reality show The Osbournes, which starred Ozzy and Sharon along with their kids Kelly and Jack.

The Osbournes is sometimes considered the first of a wave of reality TV shows focusing on the lives of celebrities, though one of the couple’s kids didn’t appear in the show at all.

Ozzy Osbourne explained heartwarming plans for his own funeral before dying aged 76

Ozzy Osbourne actually has six kids, three from his first marriage to Thelma Riley and another three with Sharon.

While many people know about Kelly and Jack, the couple’s eldest child is Aimee Osbourne who decided she didn’t want to be on camera and moved out of the family home when The Osbournes started filming.

Back in 2020 she told The Independent why she decided not to be part of the MTV show.

She said: “Back then, I still felt I was trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life, so why on Earth would I want that portrayed on television?

“I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable.”

Aimee explained that the family discussed it, but she was outvoted four to one, and while she would have ‘liked to stay at home a little longer’ it turned out not to be.

In 2018 her mother Sharon told The Talk that she was upset when Aimee decided to move out of the house.

“She felt too that she didn’t want to grow up on camera.

“She hated the idea – it was appalling to her. And so she left at 16 and I regret every day that she did. It broke my heart when she moved.”

Several years after the end of The Osbournes, Ozzy admitted he was stoned for pretty much the entire show, explaining to BBC Radio 2 that he felt he couldn’t watch the show back as he could tell what state he was in.

Shayne Burke was attacked by a grizzly bear on his honeymoon after accidentally stumbling upon its cub while walking back to his car

Warning: This article contains graphic images and video which some readers may find distressing.

Shayne Burke was on his honeymoon when he had a near-fatal encounter with a mother grizzly bear that caused him to record a chilling message for his loved ones.

Not many people can say they endured a bear attack, and fewer can stake claim to having survived one.

Since the turn of the 21st century, 38 people have died at the paws of grizzlies in North America – six of those fatalities came in Wyoming, US, where the 36-year-old was visiting with his wife Chloe Burke when he happened upon a 300lb brown bear on May 19, last year.

However, unlike others, the Massachusettsan was able to escape the ordeal with his life – and despite being mauled and thrown around by the beast, he remarkably was only bed-bound in hospital for one day before being discharged.

The grizzly didn’t hit any of the army reservist’s arteries, so he concedes that he was ‘super, super fortunate’ in that respect, but he suffered a broken shoulder as well as a ‘ton of real superficial, butt-deep wounds’ – which miraculously weren’t infected as he crawled away from the scene.

Although, their honeymoon was all but over just eight days into it – with the pair having planned to do a tour of the national parks in the west of America.

Burke, who works for the US Department of Defense, told UNILAD: “I was up in the Tetons on my honeymoon, but it was more like an adventure trip – a three-week trip that my wife and I were on.

“So basically, we had done a little bit of research where we could locate what’s called a great gray owl, which is a species of owl I’ve never seen in the wild. So I really wanted to and our research put us up on Signal Mountain.”

The bird-spotter explained how his wife ended up walking back to the car after around a half-mile walk, and he continued on, but after hiking for an hour or so he decided he needed to get back to his wife.

However, looking at his GPS, Burke noticed that he could beeline it through the woods to save time, instead of following the trail around it.

“So I opted to just, you know, beeline through the woods. As I was going through the woods I was making noise and trying to do things that would prevent an attack or situation where I run into a bear, but unfortunately, I was just moving really, really fast,” he recalled.

“After a little while, I ended up, unfortunately, stumbling upon a grizzly cub. The cub was running away from me, my first response was to just take my bear spray out and get ready – just in case the mother was around.

“In the process of that happening, the mom made herself known, and she was only 15 feet at most away from me, and then it just all happened so fast.”

Immediately after the attack, Burke recorded a message to his loved ones. Watch it here:

Detailing the horrific attack and mauling that ensued, Burke said: “As soon as I kind of locked eyes with her, she was almost on top of me, and so that’s when I reacted in the defensive way – which is, get on your belly and lay down on the ground and try to play dead.

“She tackled me, biting my shoulder, breaking it. Then she started ravaging my legs and just biting me, biting me, and it was like, you know, picking me up, throwing me – but she never ripped chunks out of me like she could have.

“So after a while, when she was biting my legs, she went for my head, and because I was laying like this [with his hands and arms covering his head], and I still had the bear spray in my hand, she ended up biting the bear spray, my hand and my arm, which is what stopped the attack, because she bit the can.”

As the grizzly went to bite Burke's head it bit down on the bear spray which in turn exploded in its mouth (Shayne Burke)

He continued: “The can contents exploded all over her, all over me. She ran away towards the road – which was the direction I was going, and they were going as well. So I got up, looked at the direction she was going, and I just had the instinct to run the opposite direction.

“So I ran back into the woods further, because this attack happened only about 500 yards away from the road, and so I ran about 200 yards back up the mountain. You know, I had to crawl over fallen trees, under fallen trees, running straight up a hill.”

Burke explained that the National Park Service (NPS) never tracked the grizzly down, although they did swab him for its DNA to see if the beast had attacked a hiker before – but those tests are still pending.

He concedes that he was simply ‘in the wrong place at the wrong time’ and that the bear was ‘acting in a natural capacity’, and so NPS is just going to ‘let the bear be a bear’, as it was just defending her cub from a perceived threat.

After the bear spray repelled the beast in an unconventional way, Burke crawled over and under fallen trees to get as far away as possible from it (Shayne Burke)

“So, how do you survive a bear attack?” I ask Burke.

“Essentially, there are two things – the biggest thing that contributed, in my opinion, to my survival was doing my research on where I was and what I was doing, understanding the risks involved, getting to the areas – and the national parks do a really good job at informing visitors about the risks and how to react,” Burke explained.

“So, essentially what I mean by that is, on the trailhead there’s a big bulletin board, and it tells you, ‘hey, there’s bears here. If you get attacked, this is how you should react’ – and I pretty much did that to a tee, and I’m still alive because of that, for sure.

“Having a deterrent – even though I didn’t use it in the most traditional sense – I don’t recollect whether or not I got to spray it at all, but having that with me, it did end up being what contributed to my survival.”

Incredibly, Burke was only hospitalized for one day before being discharged (Shayne Burke)

Incredibly, Burke was only hospitalized for one day before being discharged (Shayne Burke)

He added: “So that, and then just having some basic understanding of first aid and how to render care for yourself – because at the end of the day, you are your first responder.”

Yes, on trails where grizzlies are known to frequent, the NPS detail what you should do if a brown bear starts attacking you.

It stresses: “Cover your head and neck with your hands and arms. Lay flat on your stomach, and spread your legs apart. Keep your pack on, it will help protect you during an attack.

“Stay still and don’t make any noise – you’re trying to convince the bear that you aren’t a threat to it or its cubs. Do not get up right away because the bear may still be in the area. Wait several minutes until you are sure that the bear is gone.”

Although the guidance differs for bears acting in a predatory manner – in that case, it adds: “Fight back with everything you have.”

Chilling final words of 'Grizzly Man' moments before he and girlfriend were eaten alive by bear

Chilling final words of ‘Grizzly Man’ moments before he and girlfriend were eaten alive by bear

Timothy Treadwell and Amie Huguenard’s visit to Katmai National Park in 2003 would mark their last

Warning: This article contains content which some readers may find distressing.

An audio recording revealed the final moments of bear enthusiast ‘Grizzly Man’ and his partner before they were eaten by a brown bear.

Documentary filmmaker Timothy Treadwell – a.k.a. ‘Grizzly Man’ – spent 13 years visiting Alaska to see and study the animals.

Alas, the 46-year-old and his girlfriend, Amie Huguenard’s visit to Katmai National Park in October 2003 would mark their last trip and final experience with a bear.

Audio recording of the attack

Alaska Department of Fish and Game biologist Larry Van Daele explained at the time an ‘audio recording’ was made ‘during the actual bear attack’ – Treadwell often recording his interactions with the animals for documentary purposes.

The audio recording reportedly lasted ‘for about six minutes’ and begins with Treadwell investigating a bear that came into the camp he and Huguenard had set up at around ‘twilight’ and when it was ‘raining very hard at the time’, Wolf Song News reports.

However, the sound of rain soon gives way to the sound of the bear attacking Treadwell.

Timothy Treadwell (Lionsgate Films)

Van Daele says you can hear the bear enthusiast ‘call for help,’ Huguenard immediately unzipping the tent and becoming ‘very upset’.

“At her urging, he ‘plays dead.’ It sounds like the bear then retreated for a couple minutes but returned,” Van Daele continues. “It again went after him, and he begged her to hit it with something. She in turn screamed for him to fight. The audio ends with his sounds no longer evident and her screams continuing.”

National Park Service rangers later revealed they found ‘human remains and clothing’ in the stomach of a 28-year-old brown bear they killed.

Authorities confirmed the remains to be that of Treadwell and Huguenard.

Van Daele said: “What caused this individual bear to kill and eat humans is unknown. It was very old but not in remarkably poor condition.”

However, he has a theory.

An audio recording captured the moment the bear attacked the couple (Lionsgate Films)

An audio recording captured the moment the bear attacked the couple (Lionsgate Films)

But why did the bear attack?

Well, despite noting it’s ‘somewhat risky to speculate’ and no one will ever know ‘exactly what happened,’ Van Daele believes the old bear had ‘been hanging around the areas getting the last fish of the season’ when he realized there was ‘little else available to eat’, and so walked along a ‘major bear trail’ in a bid to put on some ‘more fat for the winter’.

When the bear walked by Treadwell’s tent, Van Daele proposes he encountered the documentary maker, ‘reacted and either bit him and/ or hit him’.

“When he ‘played dead,’ the bear left, but as is often the case, when Mr. Treadwell started moving again, and/or Ms. Huguenard came to his aid, the bear returned,” the expert added. “At this time, for some reason, the bear killed and ate him. I suspect that Ms. Huguenard’s screams, which sound eerily like a predator call, may have prompted the bear to return and kill her.

“He then cached her body to be eaten later.”

Harrowing final moments captured of animal trainer as he is fatally mauled by a bear

Harrowing final moments captured of animal trainer as he is fatally mauled by a bear

Stephan Miller was filming a promotional video when the bear turned against him

Warning: This article contains graphic descriptions, images and video which some readers may find distressing

Animal trainer Stephan Miller was filming a promotional video when his play-wrestling with a bear took a turn for the worst.

The 39-year-old was at his cousin’s animal training center – named Randy Miller’s Predators in Action – located in the San Bernardino Mountains, east of Los Angeles, when he attempted to perform a wrestling stunt with a five-year-old bear named Rocky.

Stephan wasn’t working as a trainer at the time of the filming of an advertisement video at the center, having worked there for several years before taking a break.

However, as a result of his experience with bears and previous experience, Randy called upon his help to film the promo.

Rocky the bear had already been trained to wrestle humans and had acted in 2008 release Semi-Pro, wrestling Randy – who was a body double for Will Ferrell in the movie.

The 7.5ft tall bear, weighing 700 pounds, had been trained to become ‘playful’ ‘on cue’ Randy explained to TODAY.com. Alas, Randy told ShareNow.com despite the training and Stephan having ‘bonded’ with the bear – ‘talking to him and hanging out’ – and ‘all the protocols having been taken’ the filming didn’t go to plan.

He continued: “We brought the bear out, we got the bear next to him and the bear was supposed to start out next to him and then they would start the staged attack – the bear was supposed to take him out.

“The bear basically, I think, caught him off guard.”

Rocky recalled it all happening ‘so fast,’ Rocky ultimately biting Stephan in the ‘vulnerable spot’ of his neck.

Randy and the rest of the team tried to ‘stop the bear’ using pepper spray, it only taking ‘a matter of seconds’ to get Rocky away from Stephan.

Unfortunately even in that time, it ‘was too late,’ as a post mortem revealed that Stephan died within minutes of being bitten.

Paramedics arrived at around 3:00pm but were unable to re-vive Stephan Miller, the Associated Press reported at the time.

The incident was investigated by the state Department of Fish and Game and Occupational Safety and Health Administration, who refused to rule on whether the bear would need to be euthanized.

After campaigning from animals rights groups, it was decided Rocky’s life would be spared but he wouldn’t be able to work in TV and film anymore or have contact with anyone but his trainers.

He was later cleared to work again before being moved to an animal sanctuary in California.

Miller reflected he didn’t ‘blame the animal’ given the work they do seeing them actively put themselves in ‘vulnerable positions’, and Hollywood filmmaker Nick Palumbo resolved: “Stephan was my best friend. Anybody who killed him I would want to kill, but I don’t believe the bear meant to hurt him.”

Human Horns: A Brief History of Strange Growths from Heads
Human Horns: A Brief History of Strange Growths from Heads

Dr. Pimple Popper Removes A Potentially Cancerous Horn from a Woman’s Head

While the image of humans growing horns might seem like a science fiction scenario, some individuals are experiencing the development of bony growths at the back of their skulls, often referred to as “horns”. These growths, also known as enthesopathies or insertional tendinopathies, are essentially bone spurs caused by chronic stress on the tendons and ligaments at the base of the skull.

What causes these “horns”?
  • Poor Posture:

The primary driver appears to be the forward head posture adopted when using digital devices (phones, tablets, etc.). This posture shifts weight from the spine to the muscles and tendons at the back of the neck, causing the bone to respond by growing.

  • Tendon and Ligament Stress:

The constant pulling of tendons and ligaments at the back of the head to maintain a neutral head position leads to the bone thickening and forming spurs at the attachment sites.

Why are they called “horns”?

The term “horn” is used because the bony growths can sometimes resemble horns in their shape and size. Some individuals have developed growths large enough to be visible, even under hair.

Are these “horns” dangerous?

While the growths themselves are generally benign, they are a sign of chronic stress on the musculoskeletal system. The underlying cause, poor posture and the resulting muscle strain, can lead to other issues like headaches, neck pain, and restricted movement.

How to address this issue?
  • Improve Posture:
Practicing good posture while using digital devices and throughout the day is crucial.
  • Strengthen Neck Muscles:
Exercises to strengthen the neck and upper back muscles can help support proper posture and reduce strain.
  • Take Breaks:

Regularly taking breaks from prolonged device use to stretch and move around can help alleviate stress on the neck and back.

What is a cutaneous horn?

A cutaneous horn is a growth on the skin that occurs due to excessive keratin growth. A cutaneous horn has numerous possible causes, ranging from skin infections to cancer.

Cutaneous horns are lesions that develop on the skin from an overgrowth of keratin. This is the protein responsible for making hair, nails, hoofs, and horns. An overgrowth of this protein is called hyperkeratosis.

The lesions usually develop in areas frequently exposed to the sun. About 60%Trusted Source of all cutaneous horns are benign, while others are cancerous or precancerous. Because of this, anyone who develops a cutaneous horn should seek medical attention.

Below, we explore the causes and risk factors for cutaneous horns, as well as how to identify one and when to contact a healthcare professional.

Causes and risk factors

Cutaneous horns develop from excessive keratin growth on the skin, particularly in very sun-damaged areas. The growths may be harmless, precancerous, or cancerous. There may be an underlying cyst, though this is extremely rare.

Because cutaneous horns tend to develop in areas often exposed to the sun, particularlyTrusted Source on the face and hands, they may relateTrusted Source to high levels of UV radiation.

While anyone can develop a cutaneous horn, people with a greater risk include:

In terms of cancer risk, cutaneous horns on the face are more likely to be cancerous or precancerous than those elsewhere on the body. And the risk of malignancy increases with the size of the horn.

Symptoms

A doctor can often diagnose a cutaneous horn based on its appearance alone:

  • The horn-like growth on the skin’s surface is typically brownish-yellow and curved.
  • The growths usually appear on the face, hands, forearms, or ears.
  • The surrounding skin may be unchanged or slightly thickened.
  • The growth is usually a few millimeters or centimeters long or twice as long as the base is wide.
  • Rarely, cutaneous horns can grow much larger.
  • Rarely, more than one of these growths develop in a group.

Most cutaneous horns cause no other symptoms. However, when a horn is damaged, there may be pain or an infection.

When to see a doctor

Anyone who may have a cutaneous horn should schedule an appointment with a healthcare professional to have it evaluated for skin cancer.

People who already have a cutaneous horn diagnosis should contact a doctor if any of the following symptoms develop:

  • pain
  • an increase in the size of the horn
  • redness, purple, or brown skin hues at the base of the horn
  • the horn becoming wider than it is tall
  • hardening or puckering of the surrounding skin

The changes above can indicate that the horn may have become cancerous.

Associated conditions and complications

Doctors associate a range of health issues with cutaneous horns.

Many of these health conditions are noncancerous, including neviseborrheic keratoses, viral warts, viral skin infections, and psoriasis. The latter two require medical treatment, while the others are benign.

Another growth, called a keratoacanthoma can develop from a cutaneous horn, though this is rare. This type of growth is relatively common and often benign. It is dome-shaped and can grow up to 3 centimeters in diameter. Older people, people with lighter skin, and those with sun damage have a higher risk.

A doctor may recommend surgical removal to reduce the risk of a keratoacanthoma becoming malignant, as it can resemble squamous cell carcinoma, a type of cancer.

Below, we describe the more serious conditions related to cutaneous horns that are either cancerous or precancerous.

Cutaneous horn squamous cell carcinoma

Squamous cell carcinoma is the most common skin cancer that can occur with a cutaneous horn. It develops in about 94%Trusted Source of all malignant cutaneous horn cases.

There may be a greater risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma, particularly if the cutaneous horn is larger and painful, discolored, and wider at its base.

On lighter skin tones, this discoloration may appear pink or red. On darker skin tones, this discoloration may be purple-hued, gray, dark brown, or darker than the surrounding area.

A cutaneous horn can also present as an early version of this cancer, known as Bowen’s disease or squamous cell carcinoma in situ.

Cutaneous horn basal cell carcinoma

A more rare type of cancer associated with a cutaneous horn is basal cell carcinoma. Risk factors include excessive exposure to the sun or ionizing radiation, which can comeTrusted Source from X-ray or CAT scan machines.

Age, genetics, weakened immune system, and existing scarring may also increase the risk.

Cutaneous horn melanoma

Treatment

A doctor usually orders a biopsy to determine whether a cutaneous horn is malignant. This involves taking a sample of the horn, including a piece of the base.

Cutaneous horn removal

In some cases, a doctor recommends removing the entire horn. This is especially important when malignancy is a significant concern.

In the process, the doctor takes a biopsy to check for any indications of cancer. It is rareTrusted Source for a doctor to be able to rule out malignancy without a biopsy. For this reason, a doctor will almost always request a biopsy for the horn.

Never try to remove a cutaneous horn at home. A healthcare professional needs to remove it in a clinical setting.

Additional treatment options

It is important for a doctor to determine whether a cutaneous horn is benign or potentially harmful with a biopsy before any destruction of the horn.

Anyone who then wants to have a benign growth destroyed for cosmetic reasons might consider laser therapy or electrocautery, which involves a healthcare professional using heatTrusted Source to destroy the horn’s tissue.

However, having the horn removed by a doctor is still the most commonTrusted Source choice.

Outlook

Once a doctor removes a cutaneous horn, the outlook is usually goodTrusted Source, even when the growth was cancerous. Most people do not need further treatment after the removal.

However, if basal cell or squamous cell cancer was the horn’s underlying cause, a person needs to have regular screening to determine whether the cancer has returned.

Summary

Cutaneous horns are hard, brownish-yellow growths on the skin. They develop due to an excessive production of keratin, a protein that also forms the hair and nails. Cutaneous horns may be benign, precancerous, or cancerous.

About 40%Trusted Source of all cutaneous horns are malignant, and the most common associated skin cancer is squamous cell carcinoma.

For this reason, anyone who may have cutaneous horns should contact a doctor for a biopsy to determine whether the growth is cancerous.

After the doctor removes the growth, most people do not need further treatment, though they may need regular screening to determine whether the cancer has returned.

Kelly Osbourne breaks silence following the death of her dad Ozzy aged 76

Kelly Osbourne’s rock star father Ozzy passed away at the age of 76 on Tuesday (July 22)

Kelly Osbourne has spoken out following her father’s death.

Kelly is one of three daughters to music legend Ozzy Osbourne who recently died at the age of 76.

His death comes after a 2019 Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. His condition didn’t stop the Black Sabbath frontman performing his final concert just days before his death.

To raise money for charity, Ozzy returned to his hometown of Birmingham, UK, alongside his Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. It was the first time the band had reunited on stage of two decades.

Ozzy’s family issued a heartfelt statement the day after his passing. It read: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.”

“He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time,” the statement concluded.

Other that this, the family have mainly remained quiet as they grieve the loss of Ozzy. Kelly, however, has since broken her silence.

Taking to her Instagram story, she quoted Black Sabbath’s song ‘Changes’ writing: “I feel unhappy I am so sad. I lost the best friend I ever had.”

The original song was released in 1972 but Kelly and Ozzy released their own version of the track in 2003, which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart.

Sharon has also broken her social media silence and thanked people for their heartfelt tributes to her late husband.

One tribute came from BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders who heard the news of Ozzy’s death while he was on air.

“As I was on air tonight, the news broke that we had lost one of the greatest showman the world of metal and music has ever seen,” the DJ wrote on Instagram.

“The bands and artists that dare to fly the flag in the name of rock n roll do so because Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath did first. He was a blessing to music. Rest In Peace the Prince Of Darkness.”

Replying to the sweet tribute, Sharon penned to Jack: “Jack thank you for your tribute to Ozzy tonight, Bless you.”

Gavin Rossdale also paid his respects to Ozzy and described him as ‘a great man’ and a ‘true legend’.

Ozzy Osbourne revealed heartbreaking funeral plans before his death aged 76

Ozzy previously spoke about his funeral and the song he wanted to be played

Ozzy Osbourne revealed his funeral plans prior to his death at the age of 76.

Ozzy passed away earlier this week, with his family confirming his death in a touching statement.

It read: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love.

“We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

Back in 2019, Ozzy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which is a progressive, neurological condition in which different areas of the brain become damaged over time.

While Ozzy’s funeral plans have not yet been released, he once explained that he didn’t want the occasion to be sad.

“There’ll be no harping on the bad times,” he wrote in a column for The Times back in 2011 when a fan wrote in asking about planning his own funeral.

“It’s worth remembering that a lot of people see nothing but misery their whole lives, so by any measure, most of us in this country – especially rock stars like me – are very lucky.

“That’s why I don’t want my funeral to be sad, I want it to be a time to say ‘Thanks’.”

Ozzy also said he didn’t care what music they played, adding: “I honestly don’t care what they play at my funeral; they can put on a medley of Justin Bieber, Susan Boyle, and We Are the Diddymen if it makes ’em happy.”

Although, in a later interview with NME, Ozzy explained he would choose ‘A Day In The Life’ by The Beatles.

He added: “I really need a few more years to think this over, but probably something from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band or Revolver.

“I definitely don’t want my f**king greatest hits album – I never ever play that thing, I’m f**king embarrassed about it. And I definitely don’t want a f**king happy song – I’m dead.”

Ozzy leaves behind his wife, Sharon, and their children, Aimee, Kelly and Jack. He is also survived by Jessica and Louis, from his first marriage to Thelma Riley, as well as his grandchildren.

Prior to his passing, Sharon organized for Ozzy to return to his home town in the UK for the Back to the Beginning benefit concert, where he performed alongside Black Sabbath, raising $189 million for charity.

“The only place that we could do it would have been Aston, because that’s where Ozzy was born and grew up, which is right where the Villa ground is,” Sharon told Music Business Worldwide.

“I thought of having all the bands he’s ever had relationships with perform and maybe do Sabbath songs and Ozzy songs. It became a celebration of the music.

“All the generations are going to be there that Sabbath and Ozzy have passed the torch down to.”

After performing at the concert, Ozzy told fans: “You’ve no idea how I feel – thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Symptoms of Parkinson’s disease explained as Ozzy Osbourne dies aged 76

Symptoms of Parkinson’s disease explained as Ozzy Osbourne dies aged 76

The singer’s death comes days after his emotional final performance

Ozzy Osbourne has died at the age of 76, some six years after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

The Black Sabbath frontman passed away ‘surrounded by love’ at his UK home on Tuesday (July 22).

His family confirmed the sad news in a statement, which read: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.

“He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

The ‘Crazy Train’ legend performed an emotional final show in his hometown of Birmingham, England, just 17 days before his death.

It saw Black Sabbath reunite for the first time in 20 years – and raised $190 million for charity.

Although, the singer’s appearance came amid ongoing health concerns.

Ozzy had undergone multiple surgeries to fix a metal rod in his back which had become dislodged after a fall in 2019.

He told the Rolling Stone his second operation in 2023 went ‘drastically wrong’ and ‘virtually left [him] crippled’.

While Ozzy’s cause of death has not yet been confirmed, he was also diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD) in 2019.

The neurodegenerative condition mainly affects the dopamine-producing neurons in a specific area of the brain, getting progressively worse as different areas of the brain become damaged over time.

Some 1.1 million people in the US have been diagnosed with PD, according to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

What are the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease?

Ozzy was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2019 (Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame)

There are three ‘tell tale’ signs of Parkinson’s which helps doctor make a diagnosis, the Parkinson’s Foundation says.

These are:

  • Slowness of movement, known as bradykinesia
  • Tremors, involuntary shaking on trembling movements
  • Rigidity, abnormal stiffness of the arms or legs

Bradykinesia plus either tremor or rigidity must be present for a PD diagnosis to be considered.

Other physical symptoms might include excessive drooling, stooped posture and even, unusually, smaller handwriting.

Parkinson’s patients might also experience repetitive muscle twisting, spasm or cramp, reduced facial expression known as ‘masking’, trouble moving or walking and difficulty balancing.

More subtle Parkinson’s disease symptoms

While people might think Parkinson’s only affects movement, this isn’t at all true.

In fact, the Parkinson’s Foundation highlights ‘non-movement’ symptoms can be more distressing than those that impact movement.

These more subtle symptoms can include mental health issues such as apathy, depression and anxiety, as well as sleep disorders that see people ‘act out dreams’ physically, sometimes aggressively.

Difficulties with speech and swallowing, trouble with memory and focus, as well as constipation, nausea and difficulty controlling the bladder are also noted as symptoms.

If you have any concerns, then contact your doctor.

Dr Lee May Have Extracted The Biggest Pillar Cyst She Has Ever Seen!

A pilar cyst, also known as a trichilemmal cyst, is a common type of benign (non-cancerous) skin cyst that develops from a hair follicle, typically on the scalpThese cysts are filled with keratin, a protein found in hair, nails, and skin. While generally harmless, they can become painful or infected if ruptured or irritated.

Key characteristics of pilar cysts:

  • Location:

Primarily found on the scalp, but can occur elsewhere on the body, including the face, neck, arms, and legs.

  • Appearance:

Usually smooth, firm, and mobile, appearing as a flesh-colored or reddish lump under the skin.

  • Size:

They can vary in size, from small to quite large (e.g., the size of a baseball).

  • Symptoms:

Generally painless, but can become painful if they rupture or become infected.

  • Rupture:

Can rupture spontaneously or due to trauma, causing inflammation and potential infection.

  • Familial tendency:
May have a genetic component, with some families experiencing multiple cysts.
Watch full here:

Treatment:
  • No treatment is usually necessary if asymptomatic.
  • Surgical removal: The most effective treatment, involves removing the cyst and its lining to prevent recurrence.
  • Incision and drainage: Smaller cysts may be drained through a small incision, but this method has a higher chance of recurrence.
Important considerations:
  • Do not attempt to squeeze or pop a pilar cyst. This can lead to infection and scarring.
  • Consult a healthcare professionalif the cyst becomes painful, infected, or if you are concerned about its appearance or growth.
  • Proliferating trichilemmal cysts: A rare, benign but locally aggressive form of pilar cyst that can ulcerate and may require more extensive treatment.

Inside Ozzy Osbourne’s relationship with his six children – as two ‘snubbed’ from family’s death announcement

Ozzy Osbourne with two of his kids

Ozzy had six kids from two marriages, and 10 grandchildren

Black Sabbath legend Ozzy Osbourne, who has died aged 76, was dad to six children. Four of them added their names to the family announcement confirming the heavy metal star’s death. But amid their grief and mourning, some fans may have wondered why two of Ozzy’s other children were not included.

Ozzy’s widow Sharon Osbourne is mum to three of the late rocker’s kids. But he also shared three children with this first wife Thelma Riley, who Ozzy was married to from 1971 until their divorce in 1982.

They are said to have met when she worked in a nightclub in the 1960s. Notorious for his wild partying in his younger years, Ozzy reflected in his 2009 memoir I Am Ozzy: “I put [Thelma] through hell. I was a very selfish young man, full of drink and drugs, and I didn’t know how to be a husband or a father.”

Ozzy Osbourne on regrets as a father and husband

In 2014, Ozzy admitted his biggest regrets related to his relationships with his family members. He told MailOnline at the time: “The way I treated both my wives… I was a bad father, an abusive husband and I had an ego the size of India.”

Ozzy added: “I spent decades of my life being an absolute idiot. I’ve got so many regrets I can’t even remember half of them. But wives and kids are right at the top. It’s pointless even saying sorry. I couldn’t say it enough times. All I can do is stay sober.”

So, who are Ozzy Osbourne’s kids, and what have they previously said about their famous dad?

Elliot Kingsley

Ozzy is said to have adopted son Elliot when he married his ex-wife, and was believed to be around five years old when Ozzy became his stepdad.

It is reported Eliot is a stage actor who has performed with the National Theatre. According to reports, he doesn’t have any public social media accounts.

Eliot wasn’t mentioned in the family’s death announcement statement.

Louis Osbourne

Ozzy’s eldest child Louis Osbourne, believed to have been born in 1975, is a DJ and is believed to live in the UK. His name was included in the family announcement about his dad’s passing.

After the death was announced, he changed his profile picture on Facebook and Instagram to a black square. His name was also mentioned at the end of his dad’s death announcement.

Louis is quoted as previously describing their relationship: “Dad usually calls on a Sunday afternoon for a catch up and when he comes over to the UK. We take the kids down [to his home in Buckinghamshire]. Dad is great, very much a doting grandad.”

Louis is also said to have been in attendance for Ozzy’s final ever concert earlier this month. He noted on Facebook how the appearance made him emotional.

Louis said: “I was sobbing at times. It was everything we wanted it to be and more.” He added: “I had been anxious for months about this as I’ve been worried about my dad’s ability to perform with his Parkinson’s disease. I just wanted it to be a dignified send off for him. But as soon as he started singing we knew he was gonna nail it.”

Jessica Osbourne

According to reports, Jessica Starshine Osbourne was born in 1979. She is believed to have grown up with Louis and Kingsley in the UK.

She has worked as a theatre actress, and is also believed to have had jobs in wardrobe, makeup and costuming for TV shows. Her acting credits include The Messengers, Manhattan and an episode of Better Call Saul.

She is said to have admitted in 2011 documentary God Bless Ozzy Osbourne that she doesn’t have many memories of her dad from when she was growing up.

Online sources also quote her as saying: “My recollection from my childhood with Dad is that he’d be away for very long periods of time. And there’d always be a period of adjustment when he came home. And then it’d get to normality and then he’d go again. So, it was a very erratic childhood with dad.”

Jessica wasn’t mentioned at the end of the family statement. But she has reacted to her father’s death on Instagram, posting a Story bearing the message: “RIP Ozzy”. The black and white image re-shared on her account also contains audio from the hit Crazy Train.

Why weren’t Elliot and Jessica’s names mentioned in the family statement?

The Mirror claims Ozzy’s children with Thelma have deliberately avoided “the spotlight and media glare”.

“Their low‑profile lives reflect a deliberate choice to stay private as Ozzy’s world of fame, controversy and chaos unfolded around them,” the tabloid said.

And so, it might be they are choosing to deal with their father’s passing privately.

Aimée Osbourne

Aimée Osbourne, Ozzy’s eldest daughter with Sharon, chose not to be part of The Osbournes reality series which introduced Ozzy to new audiences in the early 2000s.

She is a singer-songwriter for band ARO. She said in 2015 of her decision to shun reality TV: “Back then, I still felt I was trying to figure out who I was in the chaos of family life, so why on earth would I want that portrayed on television? I wanted to protect myself, my parents, my siblings, too. They were very young, very impressionable.”

She’s also reflected: “I felt if I’d stayed with the Osbournes and done the whole thing I would have been typecast right away. [Mum] was hurt and we definitely had a tough time with disagreements. I’m more reserved and my private life is very important.”

Meanwhile, Sharon reportedly told The Sunday Times in 2022: “Aimée doesn’t like the life we lead. It’s not her. The kids don’t get on [with her], and I’m not going to [blank] and say they do.”

Additionally, reports claim Aimée and Kelly may have endured a degree of estrangement. Aimée reportedly told The Independent in 2015: “I wouldn’t say there is an ease between us, but there is an acceptance. Do we socialise? No.”

Kelly Osbourne

Ozzy and Sharon’s daughter Kelly Osbourne was born in 1984 and found fame on The Osbournes reality show.

She’s acted in Life As We Know It, So Undercover and The Queen’s Handbag, had a clothing line called Stiletto Killers, and has also dabbled in music herself, including duetting on Changes in 2003 with her dad.

Kelly has also popped up on other TV shows such as Dancing With the Stars, The Cube and The Masked Singer, too.

Kelly recently got engaged to Slipknot’s Sid Wilson at Ozzy’s farewell gig earlier this month. Video footage showed Ozzy joking at the time: “[Blank] off, you’re not marrying my daughter.”

Meanwhile, Kelly is said to have said about her relationship with sister Aimée during a 2021 podcast appearance: “We don’t talk. We’re just really different. She doesn’t understand me and I don’t understand her.”

Jack Osbourne

Born in 1985, Jack became a fitness enthusiast after his breakthrough on The Osbournes.

He’s also made appearance in films such as Austin Powers: Goldmember, reality series such as Hell’s Kitchen and has hosted Celebrity Wrestling: Bring It On! and Jack Osbourne: Adrenaline Junkie.

He also created and produced a documentary about his dad. And he has also starred in a number of paranormal-themed programmes, including Haunted Highway and Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour.

Jack and Kelly have appeared on the family podcast together. But he appears to maintain a relationship with Aimée, too, running production company Osbourne Media together.

Jack was diagnosed with MS in 2012. He went public with his diagnosis shortly after, feeling a sense of obligation to raise awareness about the condition.

Ozzy’s grandchildren

Rocker Ozzy had 10 grandchildren.

He became a grandfather for the first time when his daughter Jessica welcomed Isabelle in 2002. Daughter Kitty and son Harry followed.

Louis is dad to two children – daughter Maia and son Elijah. Jack, meanwhile, has Pearl, Andy, Minnie and Maple.

Kelly is mum to son Sidney.
