‘The Voice’ star Ryan Whyte Maloney tragically dies aged 44

Ryan Whyte Maloney, a singer who competed on Season 6 of The Voice, has tragically died at the age of 44.

News of his death was confirmed by People, with the star having reportedly taken his own life.

Whyte Maloney had been active on social media right before his death, sharing posts on Instagram as well as a video on his story on Monday.

The outlet reports that he posted a clip which appeared to have been filmed in a bar on his Instagram story on Monday, saying in the video: “Nine fine Irishmen for a private party tonight, and we will be rocking.”

Whyte Maloney had appeared in the sixth season of The Voice in 2014, the same season as Morgan Wallen.

He’d impressed all four judges with his performance of ‘Lights’ by Journey, and ended up choosing to be in Blake Shelton’s team.

The singer went on to become one of the country star’s top five finalists, having recorded four singles during the competition – including Tina Turner’s ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It,’ ‘Easy’ by Rascal Flatts, and Shinedown’s ‘Second Chance’.

He made it through two battle rounds on Shelton’s team and returned to perform during the show’s finale.

Whyte Maloney also reportedly remained close with Shelton after the show ended, and had an ongoing residency at the country star’s venue, Ole Red, according to his website.

After impressing fans on the NBC series, Whyte Maloney continued to pursue his music career, releasing his single ‘Don’t Put Me In A Box’ on country radio in January 2023, as well as dropping ‘Love With Nowhere To Go’, ‘Sleepwalk’, and ‘Toast To Tonight’.

As well as his own singing career, Whyte Maloney also worked as a songwriter for other artists, as well as being a studio musician, engineer, and producer.

During his career, Whyte Maloney had also shared the stage with other stars including One Republic, Ed Sheeran, Robin Thicke, Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, Usher, and Adam Levine among others.

People reports that Whyte Maloney died by suicide, according to the coroner in Clark County, Nevada.

His cause of death was listed as a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, per the report.
