Donald Trump got to work right away after being sworn in as POTUS once more

Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. And within hours of becoming POTUS once again, he has introduced a range of major changes to the USA, domestically and internationally.

Trump was inaugurated as President on Monday (20 January) as the US said goodbye to its outgoing leader, Joe Biden, who has now retired from frontline politics.

Sitting next to wife Melania Trump and son Barron Trump, other people present included Elon Musk as well as Hillary Clinton, who Trump beat to be president back in 2016.

After taking the presidential oath, he found himself back in the White House signing a number of documents known as executive orders. These are instantaneous laws relating to the rules of the US. Essentially written orders, they don’t require Congress to approve them.

‘National emergency’ at Mexico border, birthrights, and refugees

Trump declared the situation at the US – Mexico border is now a ‘national emergency’. As a result, it has paved the way for sending American armed forces to the border to police it.

The order also declared Mexican drug cartels as ‘foreign terrorist organisations’.

Alongside this, Trump said that a new order will limit automatic citizenship to children of undocumented immigrants that are born in the US, with the executive order calling American citizenship ‘a priceless and profound gift’.

It states that US citizenship doesn’t pass onto a person if their ‘mother was unlawfully present in the United States and the father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth’, or ‘when that person’s mother’s presence in the United States at the time of said person’s birth was lawful but temporary’.

This act is in direct opposition to the US Constitution, with civil rights groups saying it will end up in court due to this.

Another executive order has suspended the US Refugee Admissions Program ‘until such time as the further entry into the United States of refugees aligns with the interests of the United States’.

It reads: “The Secretary of State and the Secretary of Homeland Security may jointly determine to admit aliens to the United States as refugees on a case-by-case basis, in their discretion, but only so long as they determine that the entry of such aliens as refugees is in the national interest and does not pose a threat to the security or welfare of the United States.”

Pardoning 1,500 US Capitol rioters

Trump has moved to pardon a staggering 1,500 people convicted, or facing conviction, for their roles in the US Capitol riots back in January 2021.

This was a protest on Congress that turned in to a riot, with the Capitol Building stormed by those taking part.

Some were convicted in court for their role in the violence. That included Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the far-right Proud Boys organisation, who was sentenced to 22 years in prison.

According to The Guardian, this means justice department investigations into the incident will cease.

Creating a policy that recognises only ‘two genders’

Trump has ruled that there are now only two genders in the US – male and female.

He said the move was to ‘defend women from gender ideology extremism and restoring biological truth’.

The order also stresses that a person’s gender is not ‘changeable’ in what is a huge blow to trans rights in the States.

Issues regarding gender ideology will get no more federal funding, and gender identity will no longer be requested in official communications and forms from government agencies.

Instead, it will just ask if a person is male or female.

TikTok ban is stopped in its tracks

Days before Trump was sworn in as the 47th president, TikTok was banned in the US following a decision made by the Supreme Court.

But he’s temporarily reversed it, with the app restored in the country after briefly going offline.

The White House website states: “To fulfil those responsibilities, I intend to consult with my advisors, including the heads of relevant departments and agencies on the national security concerns posed by TikTok, and to pursue a resolution that protects national security while saving a platform used by 170 million Americans.

“My Administration must also review sensitive intelligence related to those concerns and evaluate the sufficiency of mitigation measures TikTok has taken to date.”

Trump’s administration will now spend the next ’75 days’ looking at how the app can continue in the US – if indeed, it can.

The death penalty ‘restored’

One executive order is titled ‘restoring the death penalty’ in an extreme change to law and order.

“Capital punishment is an essential tool for deterring and punishing those who would commit the most heinous crimes and acts of lethal violence against American citizens,” the order says.

Trump’s executive order on the death penalty says his administration ‘will not tolerate efforts to stymie and eviscerate the laws that authorise capital punishment against those who commit horrible acts of violence against American citizens’.

As a result, Trump has said that ‘the Attorney General shall pursue the death penalty for all crimes of a severity demanding its use’.

Goodbye World Health Organization (WHO) and Paris climate agreement

Trump has taken the US out of the World Health Organization (WHO) over issues relating to payment. He’s also criticised its handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The executive order says: “The WHO continues to demand unfairly onerous payments from the United States, far out of proportion with other countries’ assessed payments.

“China, with a population of 1.4 billion, has 300 percent of the population of the United States, yet contributes nearly 90 percent less to the WHO.”

On the issue of global relations, Trump has also stopped the US’ commitment to the Paris climate agreement again, claiming the States is involved in ‘international agreements and initiatives that do not reflect the country’s values or its contributions to the pursuit of economic and environmental objectives’.

Elon Musk’s ‘DOGE Agenda’

Trump has officially created the Department of Government Efficiency; known online as the ‘DOGE Agenda’.

Led by the world’s richest man, Elon Musk, the department will reportedly ‘modernise Federal technology and software to maximise governmental efficiency and productivity’, according to the order.

The department has also had one lawsuit filed against it by public interest law firm called National Security Counselors, saying it violates transparency rules relating to federal government, CBS reports.

‘Punishing’ election interference

One executive order has accused ’51 former intelligence officials’ of working with the Joe Biden election campaign to ‘issue a letter discrediting the reporting that President Joseph R. Biden’s son had abandoned his laptop at a computer repair business’.

The order revokes ‘any current or active clearances’ of these people.

Anyone who holds ‘government-issued security clearances should not use their clearance status to influence US elections’, it says.

Alaska’s potential

Trump is focusing on unlocking Alaska’s ‘extraordinary resource potential’.

“The State of Alaska holds an abundant and largely untapped supply of natural resources including, among others, energy, mineral, timber, and seafood. Unlocking this bounty of natural wealth will raise the prosperity of our citizens while helping to enhance our Nation’s economic and national security for generations to come,” his executive order says.

Trump says it will create jobs for US citizens and help the country ‘guard against foreign powers weaponising energy supplies in theatres of geopolitical conflict’.

He’s since followed his wife again, and writing on his Instagram Stories, the musician said: “Someone went on my account and unfollowed my wife. S**t is getting suss out here.”

‘Suss’ of course here means ‘suspicious’, and anyone who has been on the internet around the time the game Among Us gained popularity will know where it spawned from.

It is indeed suspicious as to who would go on Bieber’s Instagram account with the purpose of unfollowing his wife, but now you know what happened.

Considering he’d just recently posted pictures of himself and wife Hailey out ice skating together before this furore, it seems like this was a bit of a storm in a teacup.

On the other hand, just as one mystery has been solved another presents itself as to the identity of the person who went on Bieber’s Instagram and made the decision to unfollow his wife for him.

He’d posted pictures of her, she liked his most recent post and all seems well between them, so if you were putting together one of those big theory boards to figure this out you may as well put it back.

Last year the couple welcomed their first child together, a baby boy they called Jack Blues Bieber after Justin’s dad’s middle name.

Thankfully Bieber Jr has one of the more normal names in the world of celebrities.

The couple have supported each other through various trials and tribulations, with Justin having to cut short his world tour due to health issues back in 2022 before later revealing the progress he’d made in his recovery from Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.

Bieber also turned down the chance to perform at the Super Bowl last year as he apparently ‘wasn’t feeling it’ and Hailey has supported him through these times.

Presuming their years of marriage can survived him unfollowing her on Instagram (which he says wasn’t even him) then they should be alright for the foreseeable future.

Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett decided to settle a social media feud by showing up at the guy’s gym to fight him in front of a crowd.

There’d been a bit of flak coming his way from fellow fighter Denis ‘The Menace’ Frimpong, who’d been responding to a fan who said they hoped Pimblett would be back in action for UFC London in March.

“He won’t be fit for the Vegas event never mind the London one,” Frimpong said, and therein lies the beef between the pair which had spiralled into a bit of a social media feud.

While it has been confirmed that he’s not going to be fighting at the O2 in a couple of months time, Pimblett hit back on social media and a war of words erupted, though the UFC fighters ended up settling things face to face.

At this point it might be helpful to say that if you get into an argument with someone on the internet, it’s a bad idea to try and track them down in real life for a fight, but these two are MMA fighters who are used to getting into spats so we can perhaps make an exception for them.

Anyhow, Paddy showed up at the Manchester Top Team gym where Frimpong was training so they could have a fight and settle things.

Paddy seemed to be the superior fighter in the bout, managing to get Frimpong down on the ground and apply a rear naked choke to his opponent which had Frimpong tapping out in submission – despite him agreeing with the Scouse fighter to ‘no tapping’ beforehand.

However, Paddy held the choke a while longer and the pair had to be separated by those watching on.

Pimblett and Frimpong appeared to lay their feud to rest as they shook hands after the fight, and the defeated fighter gave his verdict on Paddy holding the choke after he tapped out.

He said: “To everyone chatting s**t about @PaddyTheBaddy not letting the choke go, chill out.

When asked by a fan why he tapped out if that was the case, he said it was due to ‘instinct and the fact my trachea was getting crushed’ which seems quite understandable.

Meanwhile, Paddy seems to be engaged in a new war of words against another opponent, this time it’s Brazilian MMA fighter Renato Moicano.

The Brazilian had accused him of ‘talking s**t’ and claiming that the Liverpudlian would ‘tap if we fight’.

Paddy fired back to say that Renato ‘tapped after like 2 seconds like a b***h’ in a fight and ‘quit like an absolute sausage’, with Moicano hitting back by saying ‘the judges not gonna help you this time’ while Paddy said ‘make sure you don’t tap when I choke u’.

Donald Trump’s inauguration featured some of the wealthiest people in the world and it’s hard to stomach the sheer net worth of these individuals.

Trump – who is worth $6.3 billion according to Forbes – swore into office for the second time to become America’s 47th president yesterday (20 January).

And some of the most recognisable faces in the world were in attendance, from billionaire tech entrepreneurs to wealthy politicians.

In this one photo alone, it’s difficult to believe how much these five individuals are worth:

As you can see, the individuals in this picture are Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, journalist Lauren Sanchez, married to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos (also in the picture), Google CEO Sundar Pichai and SpaceX boss Elon Musk.

According to Forbes, Musk, 53, is the wealthiest individual in the world with a net worth of $428.8 billion.

Musk cofounded seven companies, including PayPal and Tesla, before purchasing X (Twitter) for $44 billion in 2022.

Also in the photo are number two and three in the rich list: Bezos, 61, and Zuckerberg, 40, respectively.

Bezos founded Amazon in 1994 after selling books out of his garage in Seattle.

In 2021, he stepped down as the CEO to become the executive chairman.

And at the time of writing, he has a net worth of $244.4 billion.

While the Meta boss is worth $213.4 billion after starting Facebook in 2004.

In 2012, he took Facebook public and now has a 13 percent stake in the company.

Meanwhile, Pichai, 52, who is stood between Musk and Bezos, is worth considerably less, with a net worth of $1.3 billion, as reported by The Street.

He became the CEO in 2019, after Google co-founders and co-CEOs Larry Page and Sergey Brin stepped back from the day-to-day operations.

Meanwhile, news anchor Sanchez, 55, who is engaged to Bezos, is worth $30 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The entertainment reporter also happens to be a licensed pilot and founder of Black Ops Aviation.

Add all that together, and the combined net worth of the five people in this photo is $887.9 billion.

In total, there was $1 trillion’s worth of people in the rotunda of the Capitol on Monday.

Even though they weren’t in the photo, the fourth and fifth richest people in the world were also in attendance.

Oracle founder Larry Ellison ($213.2 billion) was there and so was Bernard Arnault ($184.2 billion), the LVMH owner who owns brands like Dior, Louis Vuitton, Moet & Chandon and Sephora.

Commenting on the picture over on X, one person said: “Together they could wipe out the national debt.”

“Too many billionaires in one picture,” another penned.

“Nah I can feel my brokeness just by looking at this pic,” someone else said.

Immigration

Trump promised during a rally at Madison Square Garden: “On Day 1, I will launch the largest deportation program in American history to get the criminals out.

“I will rescue every city and town that has been invaded and conquered, and we will put these vicious and bloodthirsty criminals in jail, then kick them the hell out of our country as fast as possible.”

‘Make Greenland Great Again Act’

In a move that naturally has not gone down well with Greenlanders, Trump has said: “For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.

“Greenland is an incredible place. The people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation. We will protect it, cherish it, from a very vicious outside World. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump plans to enter into negotiations with the King of Denmark to purchase Greenland.

January 6 pardons

A whopping 1,500 people who took part in the January 6 insurrection in 2021 have already been pardoned by Trump.

In an interview with TIME before being sworn in, Trump said: “I am inclined to pardon many of them. I can’t say for every single one, because a couple of them, probably they got out of control.”

Getting rid of birthright citizenship

Trump has already signed an executive order trying to end birthright citizenship, despite legal challenges.

This would be undoing a significant part of the US constitution, with the 14th amendment reading: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

Trump wants to make it so that children who do not have at least one parent who is a lawful permanent resident of the US do not have automatic citizenship.

Cut federal funding for schools educating on ‘inappropriate’ topics

Speaking early last year, Trump promised to ‘cut federal funding for any school pushing critical race theory, transgender insanity’.

He also promised to crack down on ‘any other inappropriate racial, sexual or political content on our children’.

Delaying the TikTok ban

After going dark over the weekend, TikTok was back hours with a message reading: “Welcome back! Thank you for your patience and support. As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the US!”

That’s because Trump has promised to delay the ban and give TikTok more time to find an American buyer.

Making hidden government files public

Trump promised at his recent rally in Washington D.C that, in a bid to increase government transparency, he will be making these disclosures in ‘the coming days’.

He said: “We are going to make public remaining records relating to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert Kennedy, as well as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.”

Making the US the ‘crypto capital’

Back in 2021, Trump called crypto a ‘scam against the dollar.’ Well, more recently he vowed to make America ‘the crypto capital of the planet’ at a Nashville cryptocurrency conference last year.

Both Trump and his wife Melania launched their own cryptocurrency memecoins ahead of the inauguration, much to the discontent of some experts.

“This may represent the single worst conflict of interest in the modern history of the presidency,” Norman Eisen, a former ethics adviser under Obama, told the Washington Post.

End Green Deals

Trump is not a fan of the Green New Deal. It was pitched by Democrats Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey in 2019, but is a non-binding resolutions so will never be signed into law.

The new president has dubbed it ‘the greatest scam in history, probably’ and vowed to ‘terminate’ it.

Electric vehicles

In 2021, Joe Biden signed an executive order with the target of making 50 percent of all vehicles on US roads electric. It wasn’t legally binding.

Trump has already repealed this, telling his supporters on Monday (21 January): “The United States will not sabotage our own industries while China pollutes with impunity.”

Arrange green cards for college graduates

In a surprising bid to relax immigration rules, Trump wants non-US citizens to be able to stay in the US after graduating college.

During an episode of the ‘All In’ podcast recorded this year, Trump said: “Somebody graduates at the top of the class, they can’t even make a deal with the company because they don’t think they’re going to be able to stay in the country. That is going to end on Day 1.”

Francesco Schettino was dubbed ‘Captain Coward’ after fleeing the Costa Concordia in a lifeboat while the rescue remained ongoing

A lot of lads have gone to great lengths to woo a woman, but most men wouldn’t dare put the lives of more than 4,000 people at risk just to show off.

Francesco Schettino apparently didn’t get this memo though, as 33 passengers and crew members were tragically killed due to his decision.

The former shipmaster, from Italy, currently remains behind bars as he was ultimately convicted of manslaughter, causing the Costa Concordia crash and abandoning his passengers.

He began serving his 16-year sentence in 2017 after exhausting the appeals process, meaning he is now halfway through the jail term.

Schettino – who was dubbed ‘Captain Coward’ after he abandoned the sinking ship – claimed that he had simply wanted to dazzle holidaymakers on that fateful day in January 2012.

The 64-year-old was the skipper on the seven-day Mediterranean cruise, which had departed from Civitavecchia, near Lazio, on the Italian coastline.

A few hours after leaving the port on 13 January, 2012, the luxury liner was close to the holiday island of Giglio and Schettino decided to try and give his passengers a glimpse of the place.

However, this ‘sail by’ – which was also accompanied by a maritime salute, where the ship’s horn is sounded to locals – meant that the Costa Concordia deviated from its planned course.

So, those onboard had no idea that an outcrop of rocks were in the ship’s path, and although Schettino eventually yelled at the crew to reroute the vessel, it was too late to save it.

A huge 35-metre gash opened up on the side of the Costa Concordia upon impact, while gallons of water began rushing in – flooding the engine room and causing the ship to tilt.

It partially sank after landing unevenly on an underwater ledge, but Schettino didn’t hang about to see the damage, as he hightailed it out of there on a lifeboat which he later claimed he had ‘fell’ into.

It’s safe to say that he made a series of devastating mistakes while captaining the Costa Concordia.

But according to Schettino, being distracted by a young Moldovan dancer was not one of them – despite claims suggesting that this was the reason for the crash.

His alleged lover, Domnica Cemortan, who was 24 at the time, confessed that she had been having an affair with the captain in court.

According to the BBC, prosecutors said he steered too close to the island to show off to Cemortan.

But the dancer said she could not have distracted Schettino as the crash took place, because she was standing ‘very far’ away from him, the Daily Mail reported.

But during his court testimony, Schettino insisted it was his passengers who he actually wanted to please and he claimed that the sail by was for ‘commercial reasons’.

The captain said he had three objectives – to give his passengers a show, salute a retired captain who lived on Giglio and to satisfy the ship’s head waiter, who was from the island.

“I wanted to kill three birds with one stone,” Schettino said, while explaining that he didn’t think it was necessary to inform the ship’s owners, Costa Crociere, about the diversion as it was considered ‘an approach’ rather than a ‘touristic route’.

An investigative report into the disaster, carried out by Italy’s Ministry of Infrastructures and Transports, found that the vessel was ‘sailing too close to the coastline’.

The ‘poorly lit shore area’ and the Costa Concordia being at an ‘unsafe distance at night time and high speed (15.5 kts)’ also played a part in the fatal incident, the report stated.

Ultimately, 33 people lost their lives in the disaster and the body of the final victim was only recovered two years after the incident in November 2014.

Schettino and members of his team were ultimately charged with multiple offences, including manslaughter, following the Costa Concordia disaster.

It is estimated that the total cost of the ship sinking sits somewhere around $2 billion (£1.56 billion).

A woman’s homemade video of the 9/11 attacks shares a chilling insight into what it was like to see the Twin Towers collapsing.

Depending on the year you were born, images of the burning World Trade Centre may be something you’ll only witness through documentaries, old news reports and photographs.

These are usually accompanied with a full explanation of what happened in the lead up the attacks as well as the aftermath, which means anyone who wasn’t alive or old enough on the fateful day can be clued up on what happened pretty quickly.

However for those who witnessed 9/11 first hand, specifically those living in New York City at the time, the attacks will have been a terrifying plunge into an unknown world.

Despite the internet having no shortage of evidence related to the 11 September attacks, none of them are quite able to capture the sheer terror of what it would’ve been like to watch it unfold in real time.

Just remember we’re talking about an age before smart phones and social media, which means people will have largely been relying on conventional news reports and word of mouth for their information.

One video which manages to perfectly capture the terror felt across the city is a homemade recording which was created by Caroline Dries, an American TV writer who was studying in the city and saw the incident from the window of her dorm room.

In the footage one of Caroline’s roommates can be heard on the phone to her mother, explaining that they had been woken up by a noise and looked out the window to see smoke billowing out of the North Tower.

“No way… what is that,” she can be heard saying, with another initially saying: “Thank god it’s not a terrorist attack.”

The harrowing video also shows the moment one of the women in the apartment realises there are people falling from the building just seconds before a second plane hits the South Tower – causing one of the women to panic and attempt to flee their accommodation after a realisation about what’s happening.

Another clip taken later on then shows the group back in the apartment and drinking apple juice and joking about vodka just before the towers begin to fall.

The friends can then be heard screaming as a cloud of smoke rapidly approaches their building. “Shut the window, shut the window,” one of the women can be heard shouting as the video cuts off.

Caroline’s footage would later feature in 2008 documentary 102 Minutes That Changed America, which featured numerous amounts of archival footage captured on the day.

The screenwriter – who has worked on shows such as The Vampire Diaries and Batwoman – later recalled her experiences in an interview with CNN and explained the ‘pandemonium’ on the streets that day.

“People want to remember the details,” she said. “Sometimes I think it would be nice to have not filmed it, just have run [and] for time to have erased it and moved on a little faster.”

When he was 21 the SupernaturalDiary of a Wimpy Kid and Riverdale actor Ryan Grantham shot his 64-year-old mother Barbara Waite in the back of the head while she was playing the piano.

In the hours following the murder of his mother he drank alcohol, smoked marijuana and then loaded up a car with guns and Molotov cocktails with the intention of assassinating Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.

He drove for over 100 miles before turning around and going to a police station in Vancouver where he confessed to murdering his mother.

Grantham pleaded guilty to second degree murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment, with him having to spend at least 14 years in prison before he becomes eligible for parole.

Danny Masterson – Rape

The That 70s Show actor Danny Masterson was in 2023 sentenced to spend 30 years to life in prison after being found guilty of raping two women.

Prosecutors argued that the actor had relied on his position as a Scientologist to avoid accountability for his actions, and after a jury was unable to reach a verdict during his first trial in 2022, he was found guilty in a re-trial the following year.

Three women had testified that he sexually assaulted them at his home in Hollywood between 2001 and 2003, and he was found guilty in two of the three cases.

The judge imposed a sentence of 30 years to life, the maximum possible sentence it would have been possible to hand down.

Harvey Weinstein – Rape

The accusations made against film producer Harvey Weinstein were a major part of the #MeToo movement as over 80 people came forward to claim rape and misconduct on his part.

There had been people speaking about Weinstein for years before formal accusations were made, and he was sentenced to spend 23 years in prison for a count of criminal sexual assault in the first degree and rape in the third degree after a trial in New York.

At a trial in Los Angeles, he was then sentenced to 16 years in prison after being found guilty of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault.

After his New York conviction was overturned he faces a retrial and has pleaded not guilty.

In 2022, the singer R Kelly received a 30 year sentence for charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, and later also received a 20 year sentence three charges of producing child sexual abuse images and three charges of enticement of minors for sex at a separate trial in Chicago.

He will serve 19 of those 20 years concurrently with his 30 year sentence, meaning that his overall sentence will end up being 31 years behind bars.

Statements from his victims were given at a hearing, with the identities of the women hidden to protect them.

One woman said: “With every addition of a new victim you grew in wickedness, cockiness, diminishing any form of humanity or self-awareness, which soon became the breeding ground for your God-like complex.

“You were doing, saying and encouraging despicable things that no one should be doing. We reclaim our names from beneath the shadows of your afflicted trauma.”

Another woman said: “You are an abuser, you are shameless, you are disgusting.”

Viewers of crime drama The Shield will have seen Michael Jace on their screens plenty of times, but in 2014 he was arrested after confessing to shooting his wife April dead.

In 2016 he was found guilty of second degree murder and sentenced to 40 years to life imprisonment, with prosecutors telling the court that the actor was unhappy that she wanted a divorce and he believed she was seeing someone else.

When April returned home on 19 May, 2014 he shot her in the back and twice more in the legs in front of their sons, who were aged eight and five at the time.

After murdering his wife, the actor called the police and his father-in-law.

Although it would be pretty much impossible to dislike the Dumb and Dumber star, 63, apparently someone does, or did.

A few years ago, he claimed Tommy Lee Jones was not a fan of his work, and wasn’t afraid of telling him to his face either.

The pair worked together on 1995 movie Batman Forever, with Carrey taking on the role of the Riddler.

Now, just before he was about to shoot the biggest scene of the film with Jones, who played Harvey Dent/Two Face, the pair supposedly bumped into each other at a restaurant.

During an appearance on the Norm Macdonald Live show in 2017, Carrey said the maitre de pointed out the No Country For Old Men actor, now 78, having dinner in the corner.

“I went over, and I said, ‘Hey Tommy, how are you doing?’ and the blood just drained from his face, and he got up shaking – he must have been in mid-kill-me fantasy or something like that,” he said.

After initially not understanding what the issue was, Carrey reckoned: “I was the star and that was the problem. He’s a phenomenal actor, though. I still love him.”

Although Jones has never commented on his alleged dislike of Carrey, he called the film and its director Joel Schumacher ‘excellent’ in an interview with ScreenSlam.

With the original movie featuring Val Kilmer as Batman, Jones said: “If there’s a lot of technology at work, the actor’s job is to work with it.

“Either use it or be used by it, whatever is called for. So, some movies are more technological than others and your job is to do the right thing so far as you can understand it and so far as you can identify it.”

While Jones certainly rated the film, it seems a newer audience on Rotten Tomatoes were not as impressed, scoring it a 33 percent.

“This felt a bit too goofy for me. I enjoyed a lot of the production design, bright colors, and campy feel at times. But overall it went too far,” one person said.

Another added: “It just feels like a two-hour Looney Tunes cartoon.”

With so much going on in the world, it’s easy to forget that we’re just out here floating on a giant piece of rock – and no one knows why.

I mean, if you start zooming out, it’s really quite terrifying how miniscule Earth is in our solar system.

The good news is we sometimes get a pretty clear view of other planets and this evening (21 January) is a better time than ever to witness a ‘planetary parade’.

What is a planetary parade?

In this case, a planetary parade is when six planets – Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn, Uranus and Venus – all appear to line up in the night sky when they orbit.

It’s important to note that this alignment in the sky is only from Earth’s perspective.

When is the planetary parade happening?

The BBC reports that the six planets are already visible in the night sky, with one more bonus planet (Mercury) joining the six in late February.

How do I see the planetary parade and when is the best time?

As always, there is a caveat and you’ll need a clear night sky to properly see the planetary parade, so it’s best to escape the city lights and get out into the countryside.

For the best chance of a sighting, you’ll need to go outside in the evening a few hours after sunset, and turn southeast.

And although Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are all bright enough to see with the naked eye, you’ll likely need binoculars or a telescope to spot Uranus and Neptune.

“There is something special about looking at the planets with your own eyes,” Jenifer Millard, an astronomer at Fifth Star Labs, told the outlet.

“Yes, you can go on Google and get a more spectacular view of all these planets. But when you’re looking at these objects, these are photons that have travelled millions or billions of miles through space to hit your retinas. It’s just happenstance that they happen to be in this position of their orbits.”

How rare are planetary parades?

Royal Observatory Greenwich astronomer Finn Burridge told the MailOnline: “Often planets will rise as others have set, but it is fairly rare for multiple planets to be visible simultaneously.

“Some parades may only include three or four planets, this year we have six, which is very rare and quite significant.”

Jake Foster, an astronomy education officer, added: “Venus will be noticeably the brightest of all four planets, shining a bright white light, and Jupiter will be the second brightest, also shining white in colour.

“Saturn will be clearly fainter than the other three, due to its much further distance from the sun. Mars will have the most distinctive difference from the others because of its colouration, appearing as a bright orange point of light to the naked eye.”

Near the end of the Olympics a few athletes voiced concern at the condition of their medals just days after earning them, with several showing off their accolades looking significantly weathered in a short amount of time.

Team USA skateboarder Nyjah Huston said on his Instagram Story last year: “After letting it sit on my skin with some sweat for a little bit and letting my friends wear it over the weekend, they’re apparently not as high quality as you’d think. Even the front, it’s starting to chip off a little.”

The Paris 2024 medals weren’t holding up well when compared to their counterparts from the Olympics in Tokyo which had been held just three years earlier.

Now a French publication, La Lettre, has claimed that over 100 athletes have handed back their medals so they can be replaced with ones in better condition.

Designed by LVMH, the Paris 2024 medals have a piece of iron taken from the Eiffel Tower set into the back while the front of the medal depicts Nike, the Greek goddess of victory, as she stands in the Panathenaic Stadium where the Olympic Games were restored back in 1896.

On either side of her are depictions of the iconic Greek building the Acropolis and the Eiffel Tower.

That’s the design of the latest bunch of Olympic medals, and LVMH told the Daily Mail they had no responsibility for the actual production of the medals.

The company said that while they might have designed the medals they didn’t make them.

Production of the medals for Paris 2024 was the responsibility of the Monnaie de Paris (Paris Mint), who told LADbible they didn’t comment on the number of medals returned and denied claims from La Lettre that three people had lost their jobs over the matter of the Olympic medals.

They added that every athlete who had sent their medal back to be replaced would be getting a new one soon.

It seems as though the culprit for the degraded appearance of the medal is the switch to a new varnish after the old one was found to contain the carcinogen chromium trioxide, according to La Lettre.

“The Paris 2024 Olympic Games Organizing Committee is working closely with Monnaie de Paris, the institution responsible for the manufacture and quality control of medals, to assess medal claims and understand the circumstances and cause of damage,” a spokesperson for Monnaie de Paris told LADbible in a statement.

“Monnaie de Paris has taken the issue of damaged medals very seriously since the first exchange requests in August, mobilizing its internal teams.

“Monnaie de Paris modified the varnish and optimized its manufacturing process to make it more resistant to certain uses of the medals by athletes.

“The replacement of damaged medals has been initiated in liaison with the IOC and the Paris 2024 organizing committee.

“All damaged medals will be replaced and identically engraved at the request of athletes during the 1st quarter of 2025.”

The medal producers said they’d made 5,084 medals in total for the games.
