The 10 biggest movie plot twists of all time that are still blowing people’s minds

UNILAD RANKED is back so if the New Year’s already making your head spin, how about distracting yourself with a mind-boggling movie?

The plot twists of all plot twists are here with UNILAD RANKED revealing some of the biggest mind-bogglers to grace the big screen.

We’re now closer to 2050 than we are to the year 2000 and if that’s got your head feeling scrambled then how about distracting yourself by baffling yourself even further with some of the biggest plot twists in movie history instead?

Warning: Heavy plot-hinting ahead.

10) The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012)

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Now, I know what some of you are thinking – Twilight? In a top 10? The franchise is an iconic one but it’s hardly known for being a cinematic masterpiece.

In a way, how it’s bad is exactly why it’s so good – Millennials and Gen Z’ers know – however, ultimately this week’s RANKED isn’t judging films based on their general reception but instead, their plot twists.

And even if you’re not Team Jacob or Edward you have to admit the plot twist in the final movie of the Twilight franchise is a hand-flying-to-the-facer.

Based on the 2008 novel Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2’s screenplay was written by Melissa Rosenberg and the film directed by Bill Condon.

It sees the Cullens and werewolves go up against the Volturi and off pops Carlisle’s head – if your jaw didn’t drop you’re made of sterner stuff than me. Thankfully, the fight scene is revealed to be one of Alice’s visions into the future so it turns out everything she saw can ultimately be avoided and Carlisle’s head lives another day.

Now, if adding Twilight into the top 10 riled you up, bear with me, because next up is a true cinematic icon.

9) Psycho (1960)

The minor major seventh chord – which has since been dubbed the Hitchcock chord – from that shower scene probably lives rent free in your head if you’ve seen the 1960 release.

Psycho‘s screenplay is written by Joseph Stefano, based on the 1959 novel of the same name by Robert Bloch and the film was produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

Psycho is not only visually striking featuring impressive camerawork and stellar performances but its score – composed by Bernard Hermann – is what makes what happens to Marion even more toe-curling.

However, it’s not even the shower scene but the revelation about Norman Bates and his ‘mom’ which is ultimately the biggest plot twist of the movie – it’s not hard to see why the movie’s obtained a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer score of 97 alongside a popcornmeter of 95.

So determined was Hitchcock to make sure the plot twists were kept under wraps, it’s reported he anonymously bought the rights to the novel and purchased as many copies of the original as he could so no one would have any foresight into the movie released the following year.

The director even made the cast and crew swear an oath to not reveal any parts of the story and Hitchcock reportedly withheld the end of the script from the cast until nearer the time of shooting, IMDB Pro reveals.

8) Primal Fear (1996)

The crime thriller’s screenplay was written by Steve Shagan and Ann Biderman and is based on the 1993 novel of the same name by William Diehl.

Featuring an absolutely stellar cast including the likes of Richard Gere (Pretty Woman), Laura Linney (Ozark), John Mahoney (Frasier) and Edward Norton (Fight Club), Primal Fear’s plot twist comes right at the end.

It’s revealed altar boy Aaron Taylor, who’s accused of brutally murdering the archbishop of Chicago, is a lot less – or lot more, depending on how you look at it – complicated than viewers were initially led to believe, one fan resolving it’s ‘one of the best endings ever’.

It’s no surprise the film has gone on to achieve a solid Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer score of 77 and popcornmeter of 89, dubbed ‘one of the greatest thrillers ever brought to the screen’ and ‘a masterpiece’.

7) Citizen Kane (1941)

An oldie but goldie, the plot twist in Citizen Kane is less of a hand-flyer-to-facer and more of a sad pang of realization.

Written by Herman J. Mankiewicz and Orson Welles, seeing Welles take on the titular role alongside the role of director and producer, the movie was the triple threat’s first feature film.

Along with having what’s considered one of the most incredible opening sequences in the history of cinema and its optical effects shots remarkable for its time, the final scene twists the plot in an ironic way which throws into question the actions and meanings of all that’s come before with a sombre symbolism.

Despite being a box office flop when first released – so much so it was vaulted and then re-released in the mid-1950s, IMDB says – Citizen Kane has gone on to achieve a Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer score of 99 with a popcornmeter of 90 making it one of the highest rated films ever.

6) Gone Girl (2014)

Written by Gillian Flynn, based on her 2012 novel of the same name, the film is directed by thriller mastermind David Fincher.

It sees the character of Amy Elliott Dunne (Rosamund Pike) go AWOL on her fifth wedding anniversary to husband Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck). Nick ends up the prime suspect but it turns out someone even closer to home is to blame.

“Once you know you can’t unsee it as it changes everything,” a Twitter user wrote, the film obtaining a Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer score of 88 percent and popcornmeter of 87.

It stars the likes of Affleck (Air), the legendary Pike (Saltburn) alongside Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), although Pike almost didn’t end up playing the role of Amy after Reese Witherspoon obtained the film rights from Flynn in 2012 with the intention of taking it on. Witherspoon later withdrew from the project after meeting with Fincher about his vision for the movie, IMDB reports.

Keep an eye out on the opening and final shot of the film if you want to appreciate just how much of a ‘genius’ Fincher is too.

5) Shutter Island (2010)

Granted, its Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer score of 68 and popcornmeter of 77 leaves something to be desired, but the plot twist tops many thriller fans’ lists, dubbed by one as featuring ‘the biggest plot-twist in cinema’.

Starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the role of US Marshal Teddy Daniels and Mark Ruffalo as his partner, the action is set in an asylum on a remote island centring around a woman who appears to have vanished from a locked room.

Similarly to Daniels struggling to make out what’s real and what’s not, a viewer reflected on the plot twist: “I still don’t know what to believe honestly.”

Some have argued Shutter Island is massively predictable from the get go, a social media user writing: “I’ve never understood this one, I figured out the twist in the first 10 minutes so the rest was just tedious.” However, I was left questioning my whole existence and having to rewind to certain sections again.

If that wasn’t mind-bending enough to get your head around, the title is actually an anagram of ‘truth and lies’ or also ‘truths/ denials,’ IMDB notes.

4) Oldboy (2003)

With a screenplay written by Hwang Jo-yun, Lim Jun-hyung and Park Chan-wook, Oldboy is based on the Japanese Manga series of the same name by Garon Tsuchiya and illustrated by Nobuaki Minegishi. The 2003 release was also directed by Chan-wook.

Imprisoned in a cell resembling a hotel room for 15 years, Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik) is released and vows to track down the person who resulted in him being there, alongside finding his long lost daughter who ends up being a lot closer by than he realizes.

With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 82 and popcornmeter of 94, the film has been praised as ‘one of the most bizarre and mind boggling experiences of [a viewer’s] life’.

“I really wish I hadn’t watched it at 2am, but the final sequence is undeniably one of the greatest moments ever , with the most gut wrenching and distressing plot twist I have ever seen,” they added.

Another wrote: “I was watching the movie thinking it’s a John Wick revenge type of movie never in a million years could I have seen that twist coming.”

Oh and if that isn’t enough to draw you in, Min-sik did the majority of his own stunt work in the movie too, IMDB adds.

3) The Sixth Sense (1999)

Mentioned in Scrubs and The SimpsonsThe Sixth Sense‘s plot twist caused a cultural stir making it more than worthy of taking a spot in the top three, also obtaining a Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer score of 86 and popcornmeter of 90.

Written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, it stars Bruce Willis as child psychologist Malcolm Crowe who ends up treating a nine-year-old boy Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) who claims he can not only see but also talk to the dead.

The plot twist has been praised for its emotional resonance with star Toni Collette saying she initially didn’t even realize it was a horror movie because of how moving she found the story, IMDB notes.

Indeed, a viewer took to Twitter to write: “Not many horror movies can make you cry. This scene, even out of context, is incredibly powerful. The acting from Toni Collette and 10 year old Haley Joel Osment is off the scale. It really doesn’t get any better than this.”

“The shocking twist in the final scene completely re-contextualizes the entire movie, making it unforgettable,” another added.

The only reason it comes after the next movie up is because of how the plot twist aligns slightly more closely with the whole ‘and it was all just a dream’ concept.

2) The Usual Suspects (1995)

Written by Christopher McQuarrie and directed by Bryan Singer, the movie stars Stephen Baldwin (Fred Claus), Gabriel Byrne (Hereditary), Benicio del Toro (Sicario), Kevin Pollak (A Few Good Men), Chazz Palminteri (A Bronx Tale), Pete Postlethwaite (Alien 3) and Kevin Spacey (House of Cards).

The plot twist is extraordinarily clever and executed in Sherlock Holmes-style, one Twitter user resolving: “It puts the twist in plot-twist with perhaps the most famous of movie line-ups and one of the all time twist-reveal in film history!”

And it wasn’t just viewers who were left flabbergasted at the revelation in The Usual Suspects, but the actors too.

During an appearance on The Colbert Report, Spacey – who was charged, but later acquitted of nine sexual offences against four men – revealed: “Bryan Singer, who directed that film, had managed to convince every one of the major actors in that movie that they were in fact Keyser Söze. I remember when we screened it for the company of actors, ****** ***** was stunned that he wasn’t Keyser Söze. Went out into the parking lot and had an argument with Bryan Singer. For a half an hour.”

The film was shot over a period of just 35 days as per IMDB, which makes it all the more impressive, obtaining a Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer score of 87 and popcornmeter of 96.

Now, drum roll please…

1) Star Wars – Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

It’s the most iconic of all time, so iconic that even if you haven’t seen the film, you’ll have heard it referenced in multiple others and discussed all over the universe.

The film’s obtained a Rotten Tomatoes tomatometer score of 95 and popcornmeter of 97 and has been praised as ‘a revolutionary game changer’.

“It has one of the greatest plot twists in cinema history, one of the greatest villains of all time in Darth Vader and wasn’t afraid to go dark or mature,” a Twitter user argues.

An original Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back script reveals the plot twist was hidden from actors with the iconic line omitted from copies completely. The script given to David Prowse (who played Darth Vader) read, as quoted by CNN: “Luke, we will be the most powerful in the galaxy. You will have everything you could ever want… do not resist… it is our destiny.”

Only the film’s producers, director Irvin Kershner and Mark Hamill (who played Luke Skywalker) knew the actual line which was later added in, voiced by James Earl Jones.

Granted, Se7en should’ve definitely gone in the tenth spot instead of Twilight, but what would a UNILAD RANKED about plot twists be without one of its own, eh?

Doctors reveal how many times it's normal to get up in the night to pee depending on your age

Nocturia can be caused by several different factors

Nature loves to call when we’re fast asleep, and the phenomenon of needing to wee at night, dubbed nocturia, can be caused by a variety of factors.

Davina Richardson, a nurse at the charity, Bladder and Bowel UK, said it can be a nuisance as frequent disrupted sleep can adversely affect our day-to-day lives and wellbeing.

The nurse also said it could be caused by consuming too many caffeinated drinks during the day or drinking too late at night before your head hits the pillow.

Yet doctors warn there’s a fine line between normal nighttime bathroom use and when your nocturia could be signs of a deeper problem.

What is a ‘normal’ amount of times to pee in the night?

Well, NHS doctors say it depends on your age, as normal can stretch from once per night to as many as four times as we get older due to the antidiuretic hormone (ADH) essentially withering away with age.

The hormone regulates how much water human bodies can hold on to and helps to ward off dehydration.

For people over the age of 70, needing to pee twice a night is considered normal which goes up to four times for those in their 90s.

Meanwhile, medics say getting up to use the bathroom once every night is pretty common for people under the age of 60.

So, what are the potential health problems?

Having to wake up to relieve yourself more than once could be a sign of a urinary tract infection or even more concerning conditions like diabetes, kidney stones, high blood pressure, prostate cancer and even heart disease at the more severe end of the scale.

But doctors warn an increase in nocturia alongside other symptoms should send alarm bells ringing.

Common symptoms of diabetes include feeling very thirsty, losing weight without trying, blurry vision and an increase in nighttime bathroom visits.

The UK’s National Health Service says this is because high blood sugar not only irritates the bladder but increases thirst levels, meaning you’re more likely to drink more and therefore need the toilet.

Meanwhile, people who have chest pains, swollen ankles, feel sweaty and require more midnight bathroom breaks than normal, the NHS says this could be a sign of a heart condition.

As for urinary tract infections, Bladder and Bowel UK says other symptoms to look out for include a burning sensation when using the toilet and/or cloudy or bad smelling urine.

Alternatively, a sudden surge in needing to go at night could be due to a sleep disorder, certain medicines, an overactive bladder or a hike in water intake.

A pod of killer whales launched a scathing attack on a vessel

A group of killer whales attacking your ship while you’re in the middle of the ocean has to be one of the most terrifying things that could ever happen.

Orcas are one of the most intelligent animals in the world and I’d argue that they are far more dangerous than sharks if they want to be.

Meanwhile, I spoke to a shark expert recently who explained that even great whites don’t want to eat humans and if they do swim up to you, all you need to do is push them away on their nose with your fins – if you’ve gone in with scuba gear anyway.

Although orcas have never killed a human in the wild, four people have died from killer whales kept in captivity.

Anyway, so news of relentless orcas attacking and sinking a yacht in just 45 minutes is scary, to say the least.

It happened in October 2023 when a killer whale pod – which is a family group of orcas – launched a vicious attack on a Polish yacht while travelling in the Strait of Gibraltar.

It lasted for 45 minutes and even the Moroccan Navy couldn’t thwart their attack, with the vessel sinking close to the port of Tangier Med, in Morocco.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the attack.

Taking to Facebook at the time, Morskie Mile, the operators of the yacht, posted: “Yesterday, in the Strait of Gibraltar, in the early afternoon, our yacht was attacked by a pod of killer whales. They hit the rudder blade for 45 minutes, causing major damage and a leak.

“Despite attempts to bring the yacht to port made by the captain, the crew and rescuers from the SAR [search and rescue vessels], port tugboats and the Moroccan Navy, the unit sank near the entrance to the Tanger Med port. The crew is safe, safe and sound in Spain.

“For us, this yacht was everything that was great about sea sailing. Long-term friendships were formed on board. We sailed this yacht through the most beautiful places in Europe and the Atlantic archipelagos, trained numerous yacht helmsmen, discovered beautiful and unknown places, tasted Mediterranean specialties and sailed, sailed, sailed.

“We will take very good memories to Grazie Mamma II. Love for the sea always wins, and friendships will remain with us.

“We are working to ensure that the upcoming cruises in the Canary Islands take place as planned on our friends’ yachts. We will contact all our guests in the coming days.”

Woman suffers deadly nut allergy after having sex with partner in shocking first of its kind case

The woman suffered ‘significant’ side effects after sleeping with her partner

A man went to every length not to pass traces of nuts to his girlfriend before having sex, but as it so happened he was just one nut from doing so.

Having seemingly taken every precaution, with the boyfriend having washed himself, his mouth and even his fingernails, a 20-year-old woman – with a deadly allergy to a specific type of nut – thought no harm would come with them sleeping together.

Unfortunately, she was wrong but a study was launched on the back of their misfortunes.

“The patient’s partner was aware of the patient’s very significant nut allergy and had bathed, brushed his teeth and cleaned his nails immediately before intercourse as he had consumed mixed nuts roughly two to three hours earlier. These had included between 4 to 5 Brazil nuts,” researchers in their 2007 study, published in the Journal of Investigational Allergology and Clinical Immunology, said.

“The patient had been diagnosed with Brazil nut allergy 2 years earlier as a result of several episodes of urticaria and angioedema after consuming foods containing nuts,” doctors stated.

Urticaria, also known as hives, is a skin condition that causes red, itchy bumps to appear while angioedema refers to the swelling of the skin.

The researchers continued: “The cause of the patient’s post-coital reaction was initially unclear. However, the history suggested a possible Brazil nut reaction with the Brazil nut proteins being secreted into her partner’s semen.”

Yes, I’m sure you saw where this was going… if you’re reading this I’m sure you’ve already had the birds and the bees conversation so you don’t need me to spell it out.

“A 20-year-old woman in a stable relationship developed widespread urticaria and angioedema shortly after vaginal intercourse with her partner. Condoms were not used as the patient was taking the contraceptive pill,” explained authors AS Bansal, R Chee, V Nagendran, A Warner, G Hayman, of the Department of Immunology at St Helier Hospital, in Surrey, England.

After having sex the young woman ‘suffered significant itching and swelling of her vagina and vulva and felt faint even when sitting’, although there was no obvious sign that she was going into anaphylactic shock so she took an antihistamine and started to improve within 45 minutes.

“Throughout the following day she noticed a marked fatigue but no skin rash, dyspnea or faintness,” researchers noted.

After visiting doctors they then ran a test.

Skin prick testing with partner’s semen before and after he had consumed four Brazil nuts (AS Bansal, R Chee, V Nagendran, A Warner, G Hayman)

The researchers explained: “With the patient’s consent, skin prick testing (SPT) was arranged to the partner’s semen before and roughly two and a half-hours after he had been asked to consume 4 Brazil nuts.

“The results showed an unequivocal 7mm weal to the semen sample after, but not before, he had consumed Brazil nuts (figure). The patient was asked to avoid sexual intimacy if her partner had consumed nuts and to keep antihistamines and her adrenaline pen at hand.

“Unfortunately the couple separated soon afterwards and it was impossible to formally confirm the secretion of Brazil nut proteins into seminal fluid by Western blotting and other techniques.”

They concluded: “To our knowledge, this is the first case of a severe food allergic reaction transferred by normal vaginal intercourse.”

Baggage handler warns passengers their luggage might getting lost or damaged for simple reason

Baggage handler warns passengers their luggage might getting lost or damaged for simple reason

Baggage handler warns passengers their luggage might getting lost or damaged for simple reason

There’s nothing worse than arriving at your destination and finding that your bag is missing.

A baggage handler has shared some information that might shed light on why your bag went missing, and steps you can take to try and avoid it next time.

There’s nothing worse than going on holiday and finding out that your bags have been lost.

Well, posting on Reddit, a member of airport staff has shared an explainer of what to be mindful of when travelling to either avoid this from happening, or to know exactly what to do if the worst is to happen.

They shared that they work in maintenance at an airport in the US, and explained that one of the airlines ‘can have over 120,000 people departing, arriving, and catching a connecting flight through the airport’. That’s a lot of people!

This many people means ‘3,000 to 5,000’ bags per hour can pass through at peak flight times.

He went on to explain that this is by no means official advice, as “I am just a guy who knows what it feels like to travel somewhere and either your bags never made it, or made it and was damaged.”

His top tip includes purchasing hard case luggage, as it holds up better than fabric luggage with a wire frame.

He says: “I have seen both get pinched between diverters and while the hard case will pinch, they usually pop back into place, sometimes the fabric bags get their frames broken or rip open.”

Here’s the catch: the colour or pattern of your bag could be causing it to get lost.

The handler explained that mirrored colours and metallic patterns can wreak havoc behind the scenes.

While they may look pretty, it might end up with your bag going missing.

He explained: “Mirrored colors and paint schemes with a metallic flake act like reflectors and send the beam back to the sensor.”

He said it basically ‘turns the bag invisible’.

The poster continued: “Once that happens, it can’t be diverted to its assigned location to be loaded on the plane it belongs on. We only see it when it passes through the tag scanners again, but with the sheer volume of bags, it gets hard to catch them,” which is bad news for your bag arriving here it should.

There's nothing worse than having your luggage go missing (Getty Stock Image)

There’s nothing worse than having your luggage go missing (Getty Stock Image)

He also said that loose straps, buckles, buttons and handles not secured can also snag and cause a bag to get lost.

There’s one type of bag to avoid, too: the humble duffle bag.

“I’d say 50% of the issues I get are calls for duffle bag style bags with handles that are not strapped together and have gotten hung up on a conveyor or trapped under a diverter arm,” he explained.

“This in turn has caused other bags to pile up from different flights and we have to try our best as safely and fast as possible to get everything unstuck and moving again.”

So not only is your bag getting lost, but it’s causing chaos for everyone else, too.

What can you do then to make life easier?

The poster recommends: “Make sure to secure all straps together, roll up and tape down adjustable straps like on hiking packs or military sea bags or packs.

“For small bags with telescoping handles, make sure you can secure them down. If they are supposed to latch but the latch feature is busted or it pulls out easily, chances are it will be open when put onto a conveyor.” Not what you need.

Be careful with ‘identifier items’ too, so scarves, luggage tags and the like, as they get caught easily too.

The other big problem is overfilling bags, with the poster saying they can burst open easily, and again slow things down.

So now you know! Happy travelling.

Charles Whitman killed his wife and mom the same day he carried out a mass shooting

You may have heard of the Texas Tower shooting, as for almost two decades it stood as the worst mass shooting in US history.

On August 1, 1966, Charles Whitman made his way to the top of the University of Texas Tower, in Austin, equipped with a bag full of guns and ammo.

While there he bludgeoned a receptionist to death with his rifle and shot two families who made their way to the observation deck, unbeknown to them that he was preparing to unleash hell on the campus.

The former marine then began unloading at residents below, hitting a pregnant woman and her partner who tried to help her, dozens of other pedestrians as well as a paramedic who attended in an ambulance.

The 25-year-old killed 15 people and injured 31 more during the shooting before he was shot dead by a police officer.

However, before that tragic event, Whitman had already murdered two people close to him.

He left a note saying: “It was after much thought that I decided to kill my wife, Kathy, tonight … I love her dearly, and she has been as fine a wife to me as any man could ever hope to have. I cannot rationally pinpoint any specific reason for doing this.”

Whitman also wrote: “I don’t want her to have to face the embarrassment my actions would surely cause her. I truly do not consider this world worth living in, and am prepared to die, and I do not want to leave her to suffer alone in it… Similar reasons provoked me to take my mother’s life.”

He had already murdered his wife and his mom in the early hours of the same morning but his actions allegedly came completely out of the blue – something he noticed himself.

An autopsy was carried out that confirmed Whitman’s belief that something strange was going on with his brain.

The coroner made a shocking discovery that he had a tumor, around the size of a pecan, in his brain.

It was pressed up against his amygdala, which is the part of the brain that helps configure our emotions – especially fear and aggression – meaning this new aggressive behavior he was exhibiting could likely have occurred as a result of the growth.

In fact, the autopsy was actually something he had requested.

Prior to the shooting, Whitman wrote: “I don’t really understand myself these days. I am supposed to be an average reasonable and intelligent young man. However, lately (I can’t recall when it started) I have been a victim of many unusual and irrational thoughts.

“After one session I never saw the Doctor again, and since then I have been fighting my mental turmoil alone, and seemingly to no avail.”

He added: “After my death I wish that an autopsy would be performed on me to see if there is any visible physical disorder.”

A homeless and poor Brandon offers his last $2 to an elderly man in need at the gas station store and inherits his company the next day. Brandon thinks this is the start of a new life for his family.

Brandon clutched his paper cup with change as he shuffled into the gas station store. He was near an aisle when a loud voice distracted him. He saw a queue of angry shoppers waiting behind an elderly man who had difficulty hearing.

“I’m sorry, what did you say about the water being funny?” the elderly man asked the cashier.

“Money!” she groaned. “I said you don’t have enough money, sir!”

“Yes, it was a sunny day!” replied the man with a frown.

“You need more cash! For the water!” A younger guy standing behind the man grabbed him by the shoulder and yelled into his ears.

Brandon noticed everything. He was tempted to step in, but he didn’t want to attract the shoppers’ ire. Meanwhile, the elderly man explained he didn’t have enough cash, asking if he could get a smaller bottle of water as he needed to take his pills.

“If you can’t afford to pay, you’ll have to go!” shouted the cashier.

“I can go?” He smiled and turned to leave, but the cashier snatched the water bottle from his hand. “Just get out, old man!” she hissed. “You’re way too much trouble!”

The elderly man requested that he needed to take his pills, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

Brandon had had enough. He marched to the cashier and offered to pay for the old guy.

“Have a heart, lady,” he said and emptied his cup on the counter. The woman looked at him in distaste before she counted the money.

“That’ll cover it,” she said, taking all the money, including his last $2. “Now step aside. You’re holding the line.”

Brandon abandoned his can of beans on the counter as he offered the water to the older man.

“Here you go, sir. I got you water,” he spoke slowly and clearly, ensuring the man could see his face if he needed to lip-read. And the man thanked him. They left the store together, and Brandon headed to his tent on the bare patch of ground adjacent to the station, but the man stopped him.

“Wait!”

Brandon turned around.

“Why did you help me when you obviously needed the money?” asked the older man.

“If there’s one thing I’ve learned from being homeless, sir,” said Brandon, “it’s that the world works when people are kind to each other.”

“But what are your kids going to eat? You left the beans on the counter.”

“We have the last of yesterday’s bread,” Brandon replied. “We’ll get by.”

The man walked away but with a frown. Brandon noticed he got in a gleaming SUV and wondered why a man like him couldn’t afford a bottle of water.

The next day, while Brandon was dividing cold fries among his kids, a silver sedan pulled up near his tent. A man in a fancy suit approached.

“Morning, sir. Mr. Grives’s last wish was for me to deliver this to you,” he said, extending an envelope.

Brandon wiped his hands and took it. There was a letter inside.

“Dear sir,

Yesterday, you proved yourself to be a man of good character when you spent your last few dollars for me. Your kindness and belief in doing good for others have inspired me to repay your goodness with the greatest gift I can give you: my business.

My time in this world is coming to an end. I have recently become apprehensive about leaving my company to my son, as I’ve come to see that he is a selfish man with a heart of stone. It would greatly ease my conscience if you inherited the company instead. All I ask is that you ensure my son is taken care of and can continue to live a safe, comfortable life.”

“Is this a joke?” Brandon looked up at the man.

The man produced a stack of printed papers and a pen. “Mr. Grives was quite serious. And the moment you sign these papers, it’ll be official.”

“But I just met the guy yesterday. And now he’s dead and leaving me everything?” Brandon asked as he studied the documents.

“I understand your concerns, sir, but these papers were drawn by the finest lawyers. All we need to do is fill in your name, and the lawyers will proceed with the rest.”

This was his chance to provide his kids, so Brandon signed it. Then, the man drove him and the children to their new home.

As they arrived, Brandon stared up at the massive mansion.

Brandon could barely believe it himself. But the moment he pushed the double doors open, he sensed something was wrong. The house was a mess—a table lay on its side in the hallway, and a closet had been toppled over.

Brandon dumped the luggage, ran after the car, and told the driver to call 911. A few hours later, he stood among slashed sofas and broken furniture, speaking to the cops.

“We’ve examined the entire house and found no sign of forced entry, sir,” the officer said. “This, combined with the fact that the security system appears to have been overridden using the correct code, suggests that whoever vandalized this place had a legitimate means of gaining entry.”

“Like a key? So, the person who did this just walked in here?”

“I’d suggest you change the locks, sir,” the officer nodded.

As the cops left, Brandon suspected the elderly man’s son.

The next day, Mr. Grives’s secretary arrived early. She took Brandon shopping and got him cleaned up at a barber before taking him to the company. In the office that once belonged to Mr. Grives, Brandon was about to go through the files on the computer when the doors burst open.

“You must be Brandon!” A middle-aged man in a dark suit entered the office. “I’m Christopher, one of Mr. Grives’s former business partners, and I’m here to save you from a whole heap of trouble.”

“I’m sorry?” Brandon asked.

Christopher explained he handled the sales for one of Mr. Grives’s ‘specific’ businesses. Brandon quickly understood it was something illegal. He refused to continue it, but Christopher was having none of it.

“Listen up, you moron! Grives owed me $2 million for handling the illicit side of his business! You’re now responsible for that,” he snarled. “And if you don’t pay up, I’ll go to the police and tell them everything. Furthermore, as the company’s owner, you will be liable for all damages. So, I’ll be expecting my $2 million by Saturday.”

“What? This is extortion! You can’t be serious!” Brandon retorted.

“Yes, it is. And just in case you think I’m not deadly serious…” Christopher pushed back his suit jacket and placed his hand on the butt of a gun holstered at his side. “…rest assured that if you cross me, Brandon, I’ll make you disappear.”

Brandon said nothing and agreed to Christopher’s demands. But he wondered if Christopher was scamming him. So Brandon searched for any hints of this illicit side of the business.

By that evening, after reviewing the data from all the other departments, Brandon was convinced Christopher was lying. But then, he noticed the filing cabinet tucked into a corner of the room. Brandon unlocked it with the keys he’d found earlier on his desk. And the first thing he noticed was an old-fashioned file box tucked into the drawer.

Inside it was a ledger with entries written in some kind of shorthand, and Brandon realized Christopher wasn’t lying. In despair, he opened a drawer to find some bottles of scotch handy, and found nothing but a photo.

It showed Mr. Grives standing with…a younger guy. Brandon’s eyes bulged in horror when he realized how similar they looked. The young man was Christopher, Mr. Grives’s son!

Things started making sense to Brandon. He couldn’t believe a kind man like Mr. Grives would be involved in illegal business practices. So, most likely, Christopher was using his own shady dealing to blackmail him, Brandon reasoned.

A stroke of luck and a terrible twist that threatened to take it all away – everything was happening way too fast. Luckily, Brandon was not unfamiliar with the whirlwinds of the business world.

That Saturday, Brandon met Christopher in the underground parking lot but with a counteroffer.

“I’ve got to keep my word to your old man,” Brandon said, “so I’ll give you 49 percent of the company while I keep the remaining 51 percent. That’ll be enough for you to live lavishly, right? And I’ll reserve the right to manage the company like your father wanted.”

But Christopher refused. “I’m not a fool! I deserved all of it, not some token! Let’s talk when you come to your senses!” he hissed and left.

Brandon went back to the office. He decided to pay Christopher his $2 million and be done with this but found the company’s money was tied up in assets or allocated to monthly expenses. Brandon was helpless.

He returned home, dejected, where another trouble awaited him. As he opened the front door, he found his kids’ nanny tied to a chair and gagged.

“He took the kids! He said to tell you that this should be your wake-up call!” she cried as he freed her, and Brandon knew who she was talking about.

“Just follow my instructions, and we’ll have your kids back…” Agent Bates assured him.

That noon, Christopher was chilling by the poolside of a hotel he’d rented out. He’d locked Brandon’s kids in a closet and dismissed all hotel staff except the manager, whom he had paid handsomely.

“Excuse me, sir,” the manager interrupted him. “You have a package.”

When Christopher checked the envelope, he grinned. He strode to his room and signed the paperwork he found inside the envelope. The company was finally his! Then, he freed Brandon’s children. “I’m sure a bunch of ragamuffins like you four can find your way. Now, get lost!”

]Christopher finished getting ready. Suddenly, he heard a click behind him. Although soft, Christopher instantly recognized the sound of a gun’s safety selector.

Meanwhile, Brandon held his children close on the sidewalk. Thanks to Agent Bates’s idea of putting a tracker in the documents, Christopher was caught.

Brandon took the children home, ready to make everything right. And when the FBI’s fraud division showed up with a warrant, he handed over the evidence—the copy of the company’s records and the ledger he’d found in his office—to the agents, knowing that by the time the investigation was over, he wouldn’t have a penny to his name. But he’d be free.

“Daddy, are we going to leave our home…just when Mommy died?” Kelly asked him.

Brandon got down on one knee and hugged his kids.

“Listen, you four, we’re going to be okay. You want to know why?”

Pamela Anderson revealed why she wished she had a ‘better rapport’ with her ex

Pamela Anderson has given a rare insight into her relationship with her ex-husband Tommy Lee.

Anderson was married to the Mötley Crüe drummer between 1995 – 1998 and, over the course of their relationship, they welcomed two sons.

Their kids – Brandon, 28, and 27-year-old Dylan – are thought to be the main reason that the Baywatch star and her ex keep in touch with one another, but apparently things haven’t been too amicable between the celebrity pair of late.

Last year, Dylan got engaged to his long-time girlfriend, something Anderson said she was ‘so happy’ about.

On his Instagram post announcing his joyful news, the proud mom wrote at the time: “I’m so happy for you guys!!! You are meant for each other… I love you both, congratulations!”

Now, in a recent conversation with Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM radio show, she mentioned Dylan’s engagement after being asked about how things are between her and Lee.

“We used to talk a lot more,” she shared. “Not recently unfortunately, but, you know. I wish we did have a better rapport.”

Anderson went on: “You know what, my youngest son is engaged and we’re going to have grandkids together, so…”

She added that things between them will be OK ‘eventually’, and that it’s ‘just kind of a moment right now’.

UNILAD has approached Lee’s rep for comment.

While Anderson’s not on the best of terms with Lee right now, someone she does supposedly have a ‘great connection’ with is Taken star, Liam Neeson.

The two are starring alongside one another in The Naked Gun reboot that’s set to be released later this year.

Before shooting the movie, Anderson admitted that she was nervous to meet Neeson.

“I was also afraid to meet Liam,” the 57-year-old told Seth Meyers. “But Liam is also just a wonderful, generous person.”

She further hailed her co-star as ‘hysterical’ and teased that film fans were in for a treat when they see his scenes in The Naked Gun.

“We had a great connection,” Anderson added.

Neeson has echoed similar sentiments about Anderson, and described himself as being ‘madly in love with her’.

Speaking to People Magazine, the Hollywood veteran admitted: “With Pamela, first off, I’m madly in love with her. She’s just terrific to work with.

“I can’t compliment her enough, I’ll be honest with you. No huge ego. She just comes in to do the work. She’s funny and so easy to work with. She’s going to be terrific in the film.”

The Naked Gun hits cinemas on August 1.

Sandra thought the hardest part of married life would be learning to share space. She was wrong. A week after their wedding, her husband, Matt, dropped a bombshell: HER PAYCHECK WAS GOING TO HIS MOM. Shocked, Sandra refused to be the pushover they expected and had a genius plan up her sleeve.

You’d think the worst thing you’d face in your first week of marriage is deciding who takes out the trash or maybe arguing over how to load the dishwasher. But for me, it wasn’t even close.

Let me take you back to last week — just a few days after my “dream wedding” to Matt — when he dropped a bomb that turned my entire world upside down.

Matt and I had been together for three years before tying the knot. He was funny, dependable, and someone I trusted completely. I’m a graphic designer, and I’ve always been independent when it comes to handling my bills and saving for my goals.

I thought Matt respected that about me. He said he loved how driven I was.

So, imagine my shock when, a few days into our marriage, we were curled up on the couch watching some rerun, and Matt casually said, “Oh, by the way, we need to talk about our finances.”

I muted the TV, expecting something like a conversation about budgets or setting up a joint savings account. “Sure,” I said. “What’s on your mind?”

He smiled… not his usual warm smile, but a tight, almost rehearsed one. “We’ll be giving your salary to my mom. She’ll teach you how to spend it properly!”

“Like hell I will,” I spat, my voice trembling with disbelief and fury. “You can’t be serious.”

“My mother has managed every family financial decision for decades,” Matt retorted, a steel edge creeping into his tone. “Her system is proven.”

I blinked. “Wait. What?”

“Yeah,” he said, sitting up straighter, like he was about to give a presentation. “Mom has a system that’s worked for years. She’ll divide it up: 50 percent goes to the husband for personal use, 25 percent for household expenses, and 25 percent for gifts to family and relatives.”

I laughed, convinced it was some kind of bizarre joke. “Okay, good one. You almost had me there.”

But his face didn’t change. “I’m serious, Sandra. This is how my parents managed their finances. Mom’s a pro at this stuff. You’ll see, it works.”

My stomach twisted. “You’re telling me I’m supposed to hand over my entire paycheck to your mom so SHE can decide HOW it’s spent? And half of it goes to YOU for ‘personal use’?”

“Exactly!”

I felt heat rising in my chest. “Matt, I don’t know what kind of person you’re marrying, but this isn’t happening. I’ve worked hard for my independence, and I’m not giving it up so your mom can micromanage my life.”

His expression hardened, and his voice took on a condescending edge I’d never heard before. “Sandra, this is how a ‘real family’ operates. You agreed to be part of this family when you married me. Mom always says, ‘A husband’s cheer makes life dear.'”

I stared at him, stunned. The man I thought I knew had just morphed into someone I didn’t recognize.

“I need some air,” I said, grabbing my jacket and storming out the door before I said something I couldn’t take back.

I spent the night tossing and turning in bed, replaying the conversation in my head. How had I missed this side of Matt? And Linda, my mother-in-law?

She was polite enough before the wedding, but there was always an undertone of superiority in her advice: “A wife should focus on supporting her husband,” or “In our family, we’ve always had a clear system that keeps things running smoothly.”

I’d ignored the red flags, chalking them up to generational differences. Now I realized they weren’t just harmless quirks. They were RULES, and I was expected to fall in line.

The next morning, I made a decision: if Matt and Linda thought I’d blindly go along with their little plan, they had no idea who they were dealing with.

When I walked into the kitchen, Matt was already there, sipping coffee and scrolling on his phone.

“Good morning,” I said, my voice saccharine sweet.

He looked up, suspicious. “Something seems different.”

“Oh,” I replied, letting out a soft, calculated laugh, “I’ve been thinking about what you said last night. I overreacted. If your mom’s system works so well, maybe we should give it a shot.”

His eyes narrowed momentarily before he caught himself. “Really?!” he exclaimed. “I knew you’d understand eventually.”

“Of course,” I said, my smile never reaching my eyes. “It’s all about teamwork, right?”

I could see the wheels turning in his head. He was buying it.

By lunchtime, I’d transferred my paycheck into our joint account, making sure Matt could see the notification on his phone. I even texted Linda: “Hi, Linda! I’m on board with your system. Let me know how I can help.💰

Her response came within minutes: “So glad you’re ready to learn, dear. We’ll make a proper wife out of you yet.”

I stared at the screen, a cold, calculating smile spreading across my face. My fingers hovered over the keypad, typing a response that would set the stage for what was to come.

“Fine, Linda,” I whispered to myself. “If you want to play games, let’s play. The real game is just beginning!”

But as I started planning my next move, something didn’t sit right. Linda prided herself on being frugal, always preaching about her perfect budget. Yet every time I saw her, she had something new — a designer purse, fresh jewelry, or the latest kitchen gadget.

The math wasn’t adding up. If she was really sticking to her rules — 50% of the money to Matt, 25% for groceries, and 25% for gifts — how could she afford all these luxuries?

Curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to dig deeper. One evening, while Matt was showering, I glanced at his desk in the study. That’s when I spotted it… a small black notebook sticking out from under a stack of papers. I remembered seeing Linda jotting things down in a similar notebook during one of her budgeting “lessons.”

I hesitated for a moment. But then I thought about Linda’s smug face as she lectured me about financial priorities and decided I had every right to know the truth.

I grabbed the notebook and when I flipped it open, my suspicions were confirmed. Linda had been keeping a detailed record of her personal expenses — designer purchases, credit card payments, and, most shocking of all, money BORROWED from relatives to cover her overspending.

My stomach twisted as I scanned page after page of reckless spending. The self-proclaimed “budget expert” was nothing more than a fraud.

PERFECT. This was exactly what I needed to set my plan into motion.

When I wasn’t snooping, I kept up my act. “Matt, can you believe how lucky we are to have your mom’s guidance?” I’d say over dinner. He’d grin, oblivious to the storm brewing beneath my smile.

By the end of the week, I was ready for my next move.

Matt came home that Friday evening with Linda in tow. She waltzed into our living room, holding a folder like she was about to present a quarterly earnings report.

“Darling,” she said with a patronizing smile, “I hope you’re prepared for a comprehensive financial review.”

Matt nodded along, as if this nonsense made perfect sense.

“Sit. Down.” Linda interrupted, her tone brooking no argument.

She opened her folder and began rattling off numbers, explaining how she’d allocated my paycheck. “Of course, 50 percent goes to Matt for his personal use,” she said, giving me a pointed look.

“Because clearly,” I muttered under my breath, “I’m just an ATM with legs.”

“Twenty-five percent goes to…” she continued.

“Oh, Linda! Before we go any further,” I said, cutting her off, “I think we need to address something.”

Linda’s perfectly manicured eyebrow arched. “What’s that?”

I reached under the coffee table and pulled out a folder of my own. “THIS.”

I handed it to Matt, who started flipping through the pages. His brow furrowed as he scanned the documents: credit card statements, overdue notices, and screenshots of Linda’s extravagant online purchases.

“Mom,” he said, his voice shaky and disbelieving, “what is all this?”

Linda’s face transformed… first shock, then a deep crimson of rage. “How DARE you dig into my private affairs?!” she sputtered, her composure shattering like cheap glass.

“Oh, I dare,” I said coolly. “You wanted to CONTROL my finances. I figured it was only fair to take a closer look at YOURS.”

The silence that followed was electric, charged with the potential of an imminent explosion. Linda shot up from the couch, her hands trembling. “You’re trying to turn my son against me!”

“No, Linda,” I said, standing my ground, “You did that all by yourself.”

Matt looked between us, confusion and guilt written all over his face. “Mom… how could you…?”

“How dare you interrogate your mother?” Linda’s voice rose hysterically. “After everything I’ve done for this family! I’ve sacrificed—”

“Sacrificed?” I interrupted, a bitter laugh escaping my lips. “You’ve sacrificed nothing except your son’s ability to think independently.”

Linda’s face contorted with rage and humiliation. “You think you know everything? You know NOTHING about my family!”

“You’re right!” I retorted. “I knew nothing about your family, but now that I understand exactly what I’m dealing with, here’s a little surprise coming your way!”

Linda’s face turned red as a beet when a notification pinged on her phone. I had opened a new bank account in my name and quietly moved my paycheck back out of the joint account. A message from the bank flashed across her screen.

“You can’t—” she started to protest, her voice rising in panic.

“Oh, but I absolutely can,” I interrupted, my voice calm and razor-sharp. “It’s MY money!” The finality in my tone left no room for argument.

Linda grabbed her folder and stormed out of the apartment, muttering under her breath, the sound of her heels clicking furiously against the floor.

Matt sat down, his head in his hands. “Sandra, I’m so sorry. I didn’t know…”

“Of course you didn’t,” I said, crossing my arms, my voice brimming with disappointment and desperation. “Because you never questioned her. But now you have a choice to make, Matt. Are we partners, or is this marriage just a game where your mom pulls the strings?”

An upset man | Source: Pexels

He looked up at me, his eyes full of regret, vulnerability seeping through his usually confident demeanor. “You’re right. I’ve been an idiot. I’ll fix this. I swear.”

“Good,” I said, grabbing my coffee, my tone leaving no room for argument. “Because I’m not playing second fiddle to your mom. Ever.”

It’s been a week since that showdown, and things have been… better. Matt’s been trying. He’s apologized more times than I can count, and he’s finally starting to see his mom for who she really is.

“I never realized how controlling she’s been my entire life,” he confessed one evening, his voice tinged with shame and newfound clarity.

“Better late than never,” I’d responded, squeezing his hand.

As for my paycheck? It’s staying exactly where it belongs — in MY account. My hard-earned money, my rules.

Matt’s been different too. More attentive. More respectful. Like he’s finally understanding what partnership actually means.

“So,” he asked me just yesterday, “Are we okay?”

I looked him straight in the eye. “We’re working on it.”

So, what do you think? Was I too harsh, or did they have it coming?

Man who won $2,000,000,000 on the lottery loses entire mansion in devastating LA wildfires

The lottery winner’s Malibu home is another in a long line of properties destroyed

A man lucky enough to win the historic Powerball jackpot only a few years ago has lost one of his homes in the Los Angeles wildfires.

Edwin Castro hit headlines when he claimed the massive $2 billion Powerball Jackpot after buying a ticket from a local gas station way back in November 2022.

He came forward with the winning lottery ticket February 2023 and his life changed forever with an eye-watering amount of money.

As the largest ever jackpot, Castro received a lump sum of $997.6 million and became an almost billionaire overnight.

As you can imagine, he quickly got to work on investing and spending that money, most notably a bunch of properties.

One of the properties he did buy was a $3.8 million home in Malibu, however, recent photos, obtained by the US Sun show the property burnt down to the ground. All that appears left is smouldering wood and foundations.

A blaze first broke out in Los Angeles on Tuesday evening (January 7), with hurricane-style winds of up to 100mph blowing it through the Pacific Coast to Pasadena.

As well as the property in Malibu, Edwin Castro also purchased a $25.5 million Hollywood Hills house (Fox)

The two biggest wildfires ravaging the area have killed at least 10 people and burned more than 10,000 homes and other structures to the ground, officials said as they urged more people to heed evacuation orders after a new blaze ignited and quickly grew.

Both the number of casualties and homes destroyed is expected to rise as firefighters continue to struggle to get the blaze under control.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said all three of its one million-gallon water tanks that supply fire hydrants in Pacific Palisades had run dry by 3am on Wednesday.

President Joe Biden ultimately pledged the federal government would support California’s effort to tackle the inferno with 100 percent of financial support for 180 days.

Biden praised local power companies for turning off the power and applauded the Democrat California governor, Gavin Newsom, for his efforts during the crisis.

He said: “What I know from talking to the governor [is] that there are concerns out there that there’s also been a water shortage.

“The fact is, the utilities understandably shut off power because they’re worried the lines that carry energy were going to be blown down and spark additional fires.

“There’s a direct correlation between the utility company and the ability to pump water out of a hydrant. And so it allows for a lot of uninformed people to make assertions or concerns or accusations about the local officials not caring or not working.”
