Job expert reveals five questions you should ask at the end of an interview to leave a 'lasting impression'

Asking these questions will have you walking out of the interview with confidence you nailed it

Job interviews are pretty stressful, but it can be even worse leaving the room not knowing whether you made a good impression.

But fear not, a leadership and careers coach on TikTok has come to the rescue, outlining some top tier questions to ask at the end of the interview to make sure you give yourself the best chance of getting the role.

While they might appear simple enough, most people know the stress of the whole situation can have you gunning for the door at the soonest opportunity rather than picking their brains more about the role.

Louise Thompson, who goes by Leadwithlouise on the social media platform, broke down why these five questions are important and how they can ensure you leave a positive and lasting impression on your potential employers.

‘What does success look like?’

Louise explains this one is her ‘favorite’.

“If you’re interviewing for a senior role or a leadership position, what does success look like for me in this role? What does good look like? What does outstanding look like?,” she says.

This is pretty self-explanatory but ensures you and the employer are both on the same page about what is expected of you. It’s also a great opportunity to figure out whether this really is the role for you.

‘Is this a new role or am I replacing someone?’

Louise did note that the second question requires a little bit of tact to bring up but is crucial in establishing expectations.

She said: “Question number two can be quite revealing. You need to ask it in the right way. But basically you want to ask, if it hasn’t already been established, Is this a newly created role, or are you replacing somebody? Could you tell me a little bit more about what you’re looking for in their replacement?”

‘How is my performance measured?’

Louise again noted that question three is great for solidifying expectations and allows you to know ahead of taking the job how your line manager will be measuring your performance.

She continued: “Number three ensures that the interviewing panel knows you are focused on getting results and performing at your best. You’re going to ask, How is performance measured here? What does the performance review process look like? And again, what does success look like for me in this role?

“It’s another way of asking that question, but with a bit more detail. You want to go further, you can also then ask, talk to me about the first 90 to 100 days in this role.”

‘What is that number one thing you look for?’

The careers coach noted that this may have come up in the interview earlier but is a good point to hammer home, especially if your line manager is interviewing you.

She said: “Question four is the number one thing they are looking for in the successful candidate. It may or may not have come up earlier in the interview, but this is your chance to really nail them on this question, what’s the one thing above all else that you are looking for in your successful hire?”

‘What do you love about working here?’

The final question is a great way to end on a positive note, according to Louise, and will likely give you an opportunity to bond with the people interviewing you.

This certainly can’t hurt if they are going to be deciding whether you join the team or not.

She explained: “Number five, another revealing question, but it’s kind of wrapped up in a lovely, cozy, warm way of putting it, and it is simply to ask them, What do you love about working here? Tell me a little bit about the company from your perspective and what you enjoy about the culture.”

While asking these questions certainly doesn’t guarantee getting the job, it’s definitely worth considering, especially if it improves your odds of getting offered that all important contract.

Leaked voice message from Justin Baldoni claims he was 'sent to the basement' during film premiere with Blake Lively

The actor was reportedly in the basement with his friends any family ‘for over an hour’

A voice message recorded by Justin Baldoni has been leaked amid the ongoing tensions between him and Blake Lively.

Baldoni and Lively starred in It Ends With Us together, and played on-screen couple Lily Bloom and Ryle Kincaid.

But ahead of the movie’s release last year, there were rumors that the two leads didn’t see eye-to-eye on set and that they’d fallen out with one another.

Fast forward to the It Ends With Us press tour, and Baldoni – who also directed the film – and Lively were seldom seen together, further sparking speculation that they weren’t on good terms.

Then, just days before Christmas, Gossip Girl alum Lively filed a bombshell lawsuit against her former co-star for sexual harassment.

She also claimed that he and his team launched a smear campaign against her.

Baldoni’s legal presentative, Bryan Freedman, has since branded her accusations as ‘completely false, outrageous, and intentionally salacious with an intent to publicly hurt and rehash a narrative in the media’.

It’s thought that Baldoni is poised to countersue Lively, which Freedman has insisted will ‘expose the truth’.

While he’s yet to file anything official against the actress, Baldoni is now suing The New York Times for $250 million, who broke the story about Lively’s suit against her It Ends With Us co-star.

The article featured claims about Baldoni, one allegation being that he had ‘repeatedly entered [Lively’s] makeup trailer uninvited while she was undressed, including when she was breastfeeding’.

Part of the Baldoni’s suit says: “The Times story relied almost entirely on Lively’s unverified and self-serving narrative, lifting it nearly verbatim while disregarding an abundance of evidence that contradicted her claims and exposed her true motives.”

The newspaper has expressed its intentions of defending itself against Baldoni’s allegations.

Now, as the actor – who shot to fame on Jane the Virgin – tries to rebuild is reputation, a voicenote that details the way he claims he was treated during the It Ends With Us premiere have been released.

Shared with The Megyn Kelly Show, Baldoni’s heard saying in the voice message: “On what could have been one of the most beautiful nights of my life career wise, I literally was sent to the basement with all my friends and family for over an hour because I wasn’t allowed to be seen, she didn’t want me anywhere near her or the rest of the cast.”

It’s unclear who the ‘she’ Baldoni is referring to.

He further claimed: “We start laughing because of the ridiculousness of this whole thing.

“I was in the basement with the people that love me the most and we were all joyful and laughing cos none of that sh*t matters, none of it.”

Father Hates His Stepson, Finds Out the Truth - Story of the Day

Father Hates His Stepson, Finds Out the Truth – Story of the Day

My husband hated becoming my child’s stepfather. Unfortunately, his hatred had reached a point where he abandoned us. But one day, our paths crossed again—only to make him realize how wrong he was.

I was madly in love with Stephen since high school and wanted to marry him and start a family with him. However, fate was beyond our control, and destiny had planned to separate us.

Shortly after I graduated, my father received a promotion, and we had to leave town. We relocated to a different city. I liked the place; it was beautiful. But there wasn’t a single day when I didn’t miss Stephen.

Five years passed like that. I went abroad for higher studies and joined a media organization. I tried to contact Stephen several times, but none of the phone numbers worked.

However, fate decided to be kind to us after all those years, and we met again … at a work conference. I couldn’t control myself when I saw him. I ran over to him and hugged him. Some people stared at us, but we didn’t care. Stephen was equally happy to see me.

After the conference, Stephen and I went to a cafe. We sat there all night, talking about our lives and how much we had missed each other during the last five years. I also confessed my love to Stephen, and he confessed his feelings as well. I was over the moon.

But then Stephen said something that made me nervous. He asked me to marry him and said that he wanted to do it sooner. “I don’t want to wait any longer, Stacey. I want to be with you forever,” he said.

I looked at him nervously. “Stephen, I want to marry you too. But I have to tell you something. You should know about it before we decide to get married,” I said.

Stephen’s expression changed. “What’s the matter, Stacey? Is everything all right?” he inquired, anxious.

“I have a son, Stephen. A four-year-old boy. His name is Bob,” I finally gathered the courage and told him. However, I was scared. I knew Stephen wouldn’t take it positively, and he’d leave me. But to my surprise, he said he didn’t mind it.

“That’s not an issue, Stacey. I’ll love him like my own son,” he said, holding my hands.

My eyes welled up with tears. “I love you, Stephen,” I said, “I couldn’t have found a better life partner than you,” and hugged him tightly.

Three months later, we got married. For the first few months, Stephen loved Bob like his own son. But unfortunately, with time, things started to change. He became more irritated with each passing day, and one day, he said, something that left me shocked.

“I’m sorry, Stacey, but I can’t accept Bob as my son,” he said when he got home from work that day.

I was taken aback. “Honey, what’s wrong? Did anyone say anything to you?” I asked him, worried.

“Yeah, everything’s fine, but I want you to drop Bob off at an orphanage. Anyway, he’s still young, and he won’t remember us when he grows up,” he told me.

I’ll be honest with you. That was the first time in my life when I resented marrying Stephen. How could he be so cruel to a child? How could he even say that? I thought to myself.

I was confused. However, I tried to calm the situation down. I asked Stephen repeatedly if anyone had said something that prompted him to make such a statement. I even tried explaining to him that he was making a decision in haste. I thought he’d understand, but I was wrong.

“Honey, why are you talking like that?” I asked. “I thought you loved him like your own son. Do you even know that Bob is your…”

Before I could finish my sentence, Stephen cut me off. “Yeah, I tried to love him,” he replied. “But I can’t take this anymore. I thought it wouldn’t affect me that he’s someone else’s son because I loved you, but honestly, I don’t want to see him.”

Unfortunately, Bob was standing right behind our bedroom door, hearing everything we were saying. Yes, he was just a little child, but he could sense something wasn’t quite right. He began crying loudly, and it infuriated Stephen even more.

“See, here he goes again! Ughh, I’m sick of him! You can live with this jerk if you want to, but I can’t!” Stephen yelled and stormed out of the room. Sadly, that’s not where our fight ended.

Stephen packed all his belongings and left us. I tried to stop him by telling him how much I loved him and how happy we could be together, but all he said before departing was that he would send me the divorce papers soon.

I was devastated. I couldn’t believe my life changed entirely in one night. I rushed over to Bob and hugged him tightly while crying. He kept on asking why his dad left, but I couldn’t reply. I couldn’t utter a word.

Almost a year passed and Bob and I had learned to live without Stephen. I became preoccupied with my work, and Bob had started school. Sometimes, Bob would ask me about Stephen, but I just told him that his father had some important work, so he relocated to a new city.

But lies have a way of leaking out, and one day Bob found out I was lying.

We were at a grocery store, shopping. I was hunting for baking supplies when I noticed Bob hugging a man from behind and shouting, “Dad, dad, you’re finally here! I missed you! Mom told me you moved to a new city.”

As I looked closely, I couldn’t believe my eyes. The man—he was actually Stephen. I felt like running over to him and hugging him, but then I heard him shout, “Move away, you piece of shit. You’re not my son!” he yelled at Bob.

My anger knew no limits. I walked up to Stephen and slapped him. “Don’t you dare talk to him like that! HE’S YOUR SON!!,” I exclaimed angrily.

I was furious when Stephen insulted Bob | Photo: Pexels

Stephen took a step forward and said, “That jerk is not my son! He is someone else’s dirty blood.”

I knew this was the time Stephen deserved to know how wrong he had been. I pulled out my phone and showed the DNA report.

“You see this?! You moron! It’s written clearly. He is your son!” I yelled at him.

“But how is this possible? Why didn’t you tell me before?” he asked, confused.

“Because I never felt the need to, Stephen. Remember that night in the cafe when I told you about Bob. You said it didn’t matter to you. You said you’d love him like your son. Even when you were leaving, I tried to explain to you, but you were so consumed by your anger that you didn’t want to listen.”

“Yes, Stephen,” I said, “I hope now you remember the night we met before I left town and moved to another city. I got pregnant with Bob after that. Everyone asked me to terminate the pregnancy, but I decided to keep him as a sign of our love.”

Stephen’s eyes welled up with tears. “I’m sorry, Stacey,” he apologized quickly. “If I knew he was our son, I wouldn’t have left you. But it’s not late. We can still start a family. I’ll make things right, I promise.”

“I’m sorry, Stephen,” I said, “That’s not possible. We are happy without you.” With that, I grabbed Bob’s hand and walked away.

I heard a sobbing sound as we left. Maybe Stephen was crying. But I didn’t care. I didn’t want to have any association with a man who couldn’t value relationships.

What can we learn from this story?

  • Relationships are based on love and care and not necessarily blood. Stephen hated Bob, but Bob adored him.
  • Life is a circle. What goes around comes around. Stephen left Stacey and Bob just because he thought Bob wasn’t his child. However, in the end, karma caught up with him, and Stacey and Bob abandoned him.

Elon Musk issues three-word response to Mark Zuckerberg as Meta plans to copy X in a big way

President-elect Donald Trump has also spoken out on the change

Elon Musk has responded after Mark Zuckerberg confirmed Meta would be following X in making a major change to how its social media platforms are run.

Zuckerberg – who now has a net worth of $213 billion – founded Facebook in 2004.

Meta acquired Instagram for $1 billion in 2012 and went on to launch Threads – an alternative to Elon Musk’s X, formerly Twitter – in 2023.

Now, all three Meta-owned social media sites are set to loosen moderation by scrapping third-party fact-checking in the US.

Meta’s fact checking program was introduced in 2016 and sees posts that appear to be false or misleading referred to independent organisations for verification.

Inaccurate posts are labeled with wider context and information.

The system is being axed in a bid to restore ‘free expression’, Zuckerberg said in a video update.

Instead, Meta is switching to an X-style Community Notes system where users flag content as false or misleading.

Zuckerberg said the decision was about ‘restoring free expression’ on its platforms and ‘reducing mistakes’ it said automated content moderation systems were making, which Meta believed was amounting to censorship in some cases, accusing some fact-checkers of being influenced by their own biases.

Fact-checking practices will remain as usual outside the US.

Full Fact, a fact-checking organization involved in verifying Facebook posts in Europe, called Meta’s decision a ‘backwards step’.

Zuckerberg explained Meta’s moderation changes in a new video (Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)

Their chief executive Chris Morris said: “We absolutely refute Meta’s charge of bias – we are strictly impartial, fact check claims from all political stripes with equal rigour, and hold those in power to account through our commitment to truth.

“Like Meta, fact checkers are committed to promoting free speech based on good information without resorting to censorship. But locking fact checkers out of the conversation won’t help society to turn the tide on rapidly rising misinformation.”

The community notes system was first introduced on X back in 2021, becoming more widely used after Musk took over the social media giant in 2023.

It allows platform users who have signed up to the program to respond to potentially controversial posts with clarifications and wider context in a break out box.

People can then vote on if they find the annotations helpful.

And Musk – an outspoken advocate for ‘free speech’ – has since responded to Zuckerberg’s moderation changes.

Sharing a screenshot to his X profile of a Free Speech Union article headlined: “Facebook dumps fact-checkers in attempt to ‘restore’ free speech,” Musk simply responded: “This is cool.”

Image

The Meta changes come weeks before President-elect Donald Trump – who previously criticized Meta’s fact-checking policy – takes office. Trump even threatened Zuckerberg with life in prison at one point.

Trump said at a news conference: “Honestly, I think they have come a long way, Meta, Facebook.”

Asked whether Zuckerberg was ‘directly responding’ to threats Trump had made to him in the past, the incoming president responded: “Probably”.

A destructive wildfire has engulfed a California neighborhood, prompting the evacuation of thousands of residents. Despite widespread destruction and countless structures reduced to rubble, reports indicate that some individuals chose not to leave their homes, ignoring evacuation orders.

Wildfires have swept through a Southern California community, leaving devastation in their wake. Experts warn that the worst may still be ahead.

As the crisis unfolds, the area faces escalating challenges. On January 7, more than 30,000 people in Los Angeles were compelled to evacuate as fierce winds drove the flames further.

Fires in the Pacific Palisades and Pasadena areas remained unchecked, with wind speeds expected to reach a record-breaking 100 miles per hour. This posed a significant threat overnight.

The fires ravaging Los Angeles have ignited on both sides of the city. In the west, the Palisades fire tore through over 2,900 acres in Pacific Palisades, a coastal area near downtown. On January 7, the blaze rapidly expanded, doubling its size within just three hours during the afternoon.

While the Palisades fire continued its rapid spread to the west, another blaze erupted to the east in Eaton Canyon, nestled in the San Gabriel Mountains above Altadena. Dubbed the Eaton fire, it consumed 1,000 acres by nightfall on January 7.

Meanwhile, to the north, the Hurst fire expanded to 100 acres in Sylmar, a San Fernando Valley suburb, prompting further evacuations as the flames threatened homes and communities.

As wildfires continue to threaten communities across Southern California, authorities have issued evacuation orders and warnings for numerous areas.

An evacuation center has been set up at the Westwood Recreation Center, located at 1350 South Sepulveda Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90025, to assist those displaced by the fires.

As evacuation efforts persist, the scope of destruction remains unclear. Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin M. Crowley noted that several structures in Pacific Palisades had been damaged, though the exact number was still unknown.

Officials reported that the Palisades fire threatens over 10,000 households and 13,000 structures, while the Eaton fire has placed at least 550 homes in danger, according to Pasadena spokesperson Lisa Derderian.

As the fires continue to spread unchecked, officials remain focused on battling the rapidly growing threats. The Eaton fire, which began in Altadena just north of Pasadena, has expanded to 1,000 acres within six hours and, like the Palisades and Hurst fires, is completely uncontained.

Fire crews, who began their efforts on January 7, are now facing worsening conditions as strong winds intensify overnight, making containment efforts even more challenging in the early hours of January 8.

The unrelenting fires are the result of a perfect storm of dangerous weather and environmental conditions. Southern California has been gripped by strong winds, reaching speeds of 50 to over 100 miles per hour in some mountain areas, combined with extremely dry air.

Overgrown vegetation, spurred by two rainy winters but left dehydrated by this season’s lack of rain, has become highly flammable. Forecasters have warned that this is “about as bad as it gets in terms of fire weather.”

These extreme conditions are further intensified by the seasonal Santa Ana winds, which bring dry, forceful gusts from Nevada and Utah. Historically, these winds have fueled some of California’s most devastating wildfires, including the 2018 inferno that destroyed the town of Paradise.

With extreme weather persisting, officials warn that the fires could escalate further. Wind speeds were forecast to peak between late evening on January 7 and early morning on January 8, potentially fueling rapid and unpredictable fire growth.

Authorities have called on those near the fires who have not yet evacuated to remain on high alert and prepared to leave if necessary. Residents throughout Southern California are also being cautioned to stay vigilant for new fires sparked by the dangerous conditions.

The severity of the fires has prompted direct attention from state leaders. Governor Gavin Newsom shared his observations after visiting the impacted areas, where swirling winds, embers, and widespread destruction left a lasting impression.

He noted the alarming number of structures lost, emphasizing that “the fact that people were still not evacuated, still did not heed the warning, were just coming down the canyon, is a reminder of how serious this moment is and how important it is you listen to these evacuation orders.”

Newsom’s urgent message aligns with warnings from local fire officials as extreme fire weather continues to grip the region. Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley described the conditions as unprecedented, noting that the city remains under a red flag alert.

“Currently, the fire is at 1,261 acres and growing based on aerial reconnaissance,” she reported. According to Crowley, the combination of intense winds and challenging terrain are major factors complicating containment efforts for the crews battling the flames.

Efforts to contain the Palisades fire faced a setback on January 7 as strong winds grounded firefighting aircraft. Operations were halted around 8 p.m., with officials stating they would resume when conditions improved. They are reportedly dealing with blowtorch conditions.

By 11 p.m., the fire remained completely uncontained, and “extreme fire behavior” continued to challenge crews, said the fire department. Wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour are expected to persist through January 9, which will further complicate containment efforts.

“This event is not only not over, but it is just getting started and will get significantly worse before it gets better,” warned UCLA climate scientist Daniel Swain during a briefing.

The National Weather Service echoed these concerns, predicting that this windstorm could become the most destructive to strike the Los Angeles region since 2011.

As Southern California battles one of its most challenging wildfire events in recent years, the combination of extreme weather, dry conditions, and unpredictable winds continues to threaten lives, homes, and communities.

With thousands evacuated and firefighters working tirelessly under hazardous conditions, officials urge residents to remain vigilant, heed evacuation orders, and stay prepared for rapidly changing circumstances.

As the situation unfolds, the resilience and cooperation of those impacted will play a crucial role in navigating this devastating crisis.

Liam Payne’s cause of death confirmed as ‘polytrauma’ following inquest

Liam Payne’s cause of death confirmed as ‘polytrauma’ following inquest

The former One Direction star sadly passed in October 2024

Former One Direction star Liam Payne’s medical cause of death has been confirmed in a UK inquest, opening as ‘polytrauma’.

Five people have been charged over Payne’s death after he fell from a third-floor balcony of the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October 2024.

The hotel’s manager, a receptionist and a friend of Payne have been charged with manslaughter, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office previously said in a statement.

They are reported to be hotel manager Gilda Martin, receptionist Esteban Grassi and Payne’s friend Roger Nores.

Two others, hotel employee Ezequiel Pereyra and waiter Braian Paiz, have been charged with supplying cocaine.

The inquest into Payne’s death in the UK has been adjourned until a pre-inquest review on November 6, the coroner’s court said.

His medical cause of death was confirmed by Dr Roberto Victor Cohen as ‘polytrauma’, meaning multiple traumatic injuries.

The hearing was also told Payne, who was described as a ‘singer and entertainer’ during the hearing, was formally identified ‘with the assistance of the funeral directors in Buckinghamshire’.

Senior Coroner Crispin Butler said during the hearing: “Whilst there are ongoing investigations in Argentina into the circumstances of Liam’s death, over which I have no legal jurisdiction, it is anticipated that procuring the relevant information to address particularly how Liam came by his death may take some time through the formal channel of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.”

A toxicology report was also carried out after Payne’s untimely passing, which found that the ‘For You’ singer had traces of ‘alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressant’ in his system.

A press release from Argentinian officials stated: “The results of the toxicological studies – already communicated to his family – revealed that, in the moments before his death and in the span of at least his last 72 hours, Payne only had on his body traces of a polyconsumption of alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant.

“That conclusion was reached after the complete toxicological analyzes on urine, blood and vitreous humor, carried out in a very short time.”

The singer was laid to rest in a private service held in Buckinghamshire in November.

His One Director bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik were all in attendance, as well as his ex partner Cheryl Tweedy, whom he shared his seven-year-old son, Bear, with.

His former manager and The X Factor judge Simon Cowell also went to the funeral.

Removing blackheads from the face requires a consistent skin care routine using products that can break up the skin-clogging oil inside.

1. Cleanse daily

Daily cleansing is vital to reduce excess oil, dirt, and other materials that can build up, clog pores, and potentially cause blackheads.

One approach that appears to helpTrusted Source is double-cleansing.

First, the person cleanses with an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup and pollutants from the skin.

They follow this with a gentle, water-based cleanser. This removes dirt and oils and prepares the skin for other treatment, such as applying a topical treatment.

2. Apply blackhead-clearing topicals

Topical applications can help break up the oil plug that leads to blackheads. These do take time to work, and a person may have to apply them daily for several weeks before the plug breaks up, reducing the blackhead’s appearance.

Topical applications include:

  • Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs): These are fruit acids that can encourageTrusted Source exfoliation. Examples include glycolic, mandolin, and lactic acids. These topical applications promote skin peeling and reduce blackheads.
  • Salicylic acid: Salicylic acid comes from the willow tree. It is also a natural peeling agent that can help to peel away pore plugs.
  • Tea tree oil: Tea tree oil has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. In one small studyTrusted Source, 14 people with mild to moderate acne used a gel containing tea tree oil for 12 weeks. The results suggested that products containing tea tree oil can help manage symptoms without severe adverse effects.

Another option is benzoyl peroxide, a topical application that can reduce bacteria and promote peeling.

3. Try a natural blackhead removal mask

Exfoliating scrubs or masks can help remove dead skin cells that may otherwise clog pores and lead to more blackheads.

Oatmeal

According to one article from 2016, colloidal oatmeal has anti-inflammatory, exfoliating, and skin-soothing properties that may help people with eczema. The researchers suggested it could help reduce irritation and manage various skin conditions due to its beneficial effects on the skin barrier. It may help with acne, but there is no specific evidence to confirm this.

4. Facial scrubs

Some people use scrubs to exfoliate the skin in the hope that it will look smoother. For acne, the idea is that the scrub will open up closed comedones and stop them from progressing. However, their abrasive effect may lead to irritation.

Ingredients used in scrubs include:

  • ground fruit pits
  • aluminum oxide
  • sodium tetraborate decahydrate granules
  • polyethylene beads

People should check the ingredients of a scrub before purchasing. ExpertsTrusted Source note that sodium tetraborate decahydrate granules dissolve during washing, making them less abrasive and more suitable than other options for sensitive skin.

Polyethylene beads are a form of microplastic, and they are harmful to the environment.

Here, learn how microplastics get into food and their impact on human health.

Blackhead removal for the body

Blackheads tend to develop on oily parts of the body, including the chest and back. The skin in these places is thicker and less sensitive to treatments, which means a person may need to change their treatment approach slightly.

5. Cleanse the skin daily

Keeping the skin clean and dry can help reduce excess oil in areas of the body where blackheads may develop. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends using a body wash that contains benzoyl peroxide.

The AAD recommends purchasing a body wash that contains at least 5.3% benzoyl peroxide. Body washes with up to 10% benzoyl peroxide are available without a prescription. After application, a person leaves it on for at least 2 minutes before rinsing off.

If a person has difficulty reaching their back, they can purchase long-handled brushes or loofahs to help deliver the wash.

6. Use a brush to cleanse and exfoliate

Dry brushing the skin is a natural way to remove dead skin cells that can otherwise clog the pores. Use a natural-bristled brush with a long handle to reach the back, an exfoliating back band, or an extra-long loofah with handles. A person should use a gentler brush for the face than for the body.

Electronic brushes are also available for the skin, although they do not specifically aim to treat acne.

Research carried out by producers of these brushes showed they might be more effective at removing makeup and cleansing the skin than soap and water. A 2019 reviewTrusted Source suggested that they may be a safe and effective way of removing debris from the skin without reducing sebum excessively, but it did not specifically recommend their use for acne.

7. Use sun protection

People often think sun exposure can improve acne, but it can worsen symptoms. It can darken acne and make it last longer. Some acne treatments can also increase sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun and tanning beds.

Using an oil-free sunscreen can help protect the skin from sunlight.

8. Practice blackhead-friendly habits

Here are some other actions that can help prevent acne, including blackheads:

  • Changing clothes immediately after engaging in any sweat-producing activity, such as being outside or exercising. Sweat that sticks close to the skin can contribute to bacteria buildup.
  • Wearing loose clothing made from natural fibers, such as cotton, that allow the skin to “breathe” and do not create irritating friction.
  • Using a hand-held bag instead of a backpack if acne occurs on the back.
  • Cleansing the skin as soon as possible after sweating.
Other remedies

Some remedies are available over the counter for home use. They are not natural remedies, but they do not need a prescription.

9. Pore strips

Pore strips are a type of adhesive pad that a person places on their skin then pulls away. They aim to remove oil, dirt, and dead skin from the skin’s surface.

They contain a substance known as a cationic adhesive polymer. This binds to the contents of blocked pores and removes them as the person pulls the strip away.

To use a pore strip, a person will:

  1. Wet the skin.
  2. Apply the strip.
  3. Allow to harden.
  4. Peel off.

ExpertsTrusted Source recommend using them once a week and advise people not to use them more than once every 3 days.

10. Over-the-counter topical remedies

Look for topical treatments, such as creams or gels, that contain one or more of the following:

  • benzoyl peroxide, which destroys bacteria and reduces inflammation
  • topical retinoids, such as tretinoin and adapalene, which remove dead skin cells and prevent clogging of the pores
  • azelaic acid, which helps remove dead skin and kill bacteria
  • sulfur, a natural element with antibacterial properties

A person should speak with their doctor or pharmacist about suitable options, which strength to use, and possible adverse effects.

Potential side effects of topical treatments include:

  • skin irritation
  • hypersensitivity to sunlight
  • dry skin

Always follow the instructions on the pack and any advice from the doctor or pharmacist.

A doctor may prescribe topical antibiotics, which help kill bacteria on the skin. Antibiotic creams are only for short-term use, usually 6–8 weeks, to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance.

If these options do not help, they may prescribe a stronger medication. Examples include oral antibiotics, isotretinoin capsules, or co-cyprindiol, which is a hormonal treatment.

What are noncomedogenic products for acne?

Some substances are more likely to block skin pores than others. They have comedogenic properties. Examples include the foaming agent sodium lauryl sulfate, coconut oil, wheat germ, and some algae extracts.

Noncomedogenic products are products that do not contain such substances and are less likely to block the pores. In this way, they may help reduce the risk of acne.

Substances that are relatively less comedogenic and less likely to block the pores include:

  • almond, avocado, olive, and jojoba oils
  • glycerin
  • aloe vera
  • talc

However, this does not mean they can treat acne.

What not to do

Some popular remedies can damage the skin or make acne worse.

Here are some strategies to avoid:

  • Blackhead extractors: These metal or plastic tools have an opening on the end that creates pressure on the pore to remove blackheads. However, they can damage the skin or introduce more bacteria and people should leave them to the professionals.
  • Popping or pressing: Pressing on a blackhead can increase the risk of pain, scarring, more acne, and infection. It also creates an entrance for more oil and bacteria to fill up the pore. Only a dermatologist should remove acne.
  • School glue: Some “online hack” videos and articles recommend using school glue, such as Elmer’s glue, to remove blackheads. However, the glue can clog the pores and may cause allergic reactions.
  • Toothpaste: This has some antibacterial properties, but it also contains substances that can damage or irritate the skin.

Always consider the potential for damage and irritation before using any force or shortcut products on the skin. They can lead to scarring and may make acne worse.

Summary

Various at-home measures can help manage blackheads. If they do not help after 8 weeks, the AAD recommends seeing a dermatologist.

A doctor can prescribe stronger treatments that may help reduce the appearance of blackheads on the face and body.

Jack embraced casual yet effortlessly chic looks during his Paris outings, sporting ensembles that blended timeless European street style with a cozy, winter-ready flair.

In one snapshot, Jack was seen wearing a vintage-inspired brown corduroy blazer layered over a vibrant orange sweater, adding a pop of color to his otherwise muted outfit. He paired the blazer with relaxed beige trousers and sturdy brown shoes, perfect for navigating the bustling streets of Paris during the holiday season.

Another image showed Jack donning a dark green jacket. He kept warm with a knitted beanie and a scarf wrapped around his neck. According to media share by Page Six, the young Depp was seen making his way back to his family home, carrying multiple shopping bags from high-end stores like Lacoste.

The recent photos of Jack strolling through the streets of Paris sparked a wave of social media reactions, with many fans taking to comment sections to share their opinions and compare Jack to his famous dad.

“He looks like Johnny, literally his twin!!!!!” exclaimed one fan, while another echoed the sentiment, “Looks alot [sic] like his Daddy.”

One spectator couldn’t help but point out Jack’s resemblance to one of his dad’s past film roles, noting, “he looks like a younger version of johnny in ‘secret window [sic].'” Another observer simply stated, “Omg he looks like his dad 😮.”

However, a recent Daily Mail report shed light on how the 22-year-old had been quietly working as a bartender at a Lebanese restaurant called L’Area in Paris, far from the glitz and glamour often associated with his famous family.

The restaurant’s owner, Edouard Chueke, spoke to the news outlet about Jack’s time there, describing him as a reliable and hardworking employee who fit right in with the eclectic crowd the establishment attracts.

“Jack is a great guy; he keeps out of the limelight, but worked here behind the bar and in the kitchen,” shared Edouard. He added that Jack had spent about two years working at L’Area before leaving.

“He was a good employee, he left a few months ago but I expect him back later next year. Good staff are hard to find,” disclosed the owner.

The restaurant, which Edouard has run for over fifteen years, has become a well-known spot in Paris, frequented by fashion insiders, musicians, and even film stars.

Jack’s connection to L’Arena isn’t entirely surprising, given that his mother, Vanessa Paradis, and sister, Lily-Rose Depp, are regulars at the establishment. In fact, according to Edouard, Lily-Rose has even gotten behind the bar herself.

“Lily was mixing caipirinhas behind the bar and really getting into the swing of it, she was enjoying herself,” he recalled.

Aside from his stint as a bartender, Jack has quietly pursued his own creative passions — talents that his father has spoken about with pride in the past.

In a 2014 interview, Johnny opened up about parenting alongside his former partner, Vanessa, and shared rare insights into Jack’s artistic interests.

Reflecting on his relationship with Vanessa, whom he split from in 2012 after 14 years together, Johnny expressed nothing but warmth and mutual respect for the mother of his children.

“Vanessa and I get along wonderfully. There’s no weirdness at all, no hostility. Life happens. We spent 14 great years together and have raised a couple of kids who we are both incredibly proud of,” said Johnny at the time.

He noted that their bond as co-parents remained strong despite the breakup, adding, “We see each other all the time, giggle and hang out, just like we always did. There are no hassles. Thankfully, because she is a wonderful woman. I love her and she loves me. She’s a great woman and mom. I have nothing bad to say, ever.”

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star also spoke lovingly about their two children, praising their character and growth despite growing up in the shadow of his Hollywood fame.

“My kids — I am more and more proud [of them]. Because having lived alongside me in their formative years — most parents’ jobs don’t require that kind of weirdness,” Johnny admitted, referring to the unique challenges that come with raising children in the spotlight.

“The kids have turned out so well. They are good, smart kids. They are polite and caring,” swooned the doting dad.

When speaking about Jack specifically, Johnny described him as a talented visual artist and musician. “My boy Jack has always been a very talented draftsman. He draws really super-well. He also plays music very well. He’s got a good feel for that,” revealed the proud dad.

While many might expect Jack to follow in his father’s acting footsteps, Johnny made it clear that his son’s ambitions lie elsewhere. “Aside from school plays and things, he hasn’t shown any desire to become an actor. Whew!” he quipped.

Similar to how Johnny Depp shared some details about Jack Depp, the young man’s older sister has also shared some words about him, giving the public glimpses into their sweet sibling bond.

During a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Lily-Rose Depp, who was there to promote her new horror film, “Nosferatu,” divulged a memorable story about Jack’s childhood fascination with Dracula.

“My brother and I were obsessed with Abbott and Costello as kids,” shared Lily-Rose, referring to the comedy duo’s famous “Meet the Monsters” series.

“We particularly were drawn to the ‘Meet Dracula’ one, the ‘Bela Lugosi,’ and my brother was like three or four at the time and he started dressing up like Dracula and doing these kind of like really serious line readings of the lines,” disclosed the big sister.

Lily-Rose then joked about how, essentially, she “grew up as [an] older sister to Dracula,” describing how her younger brother fully immersed himself in the character.

The actress went on to reflect on how taking on her star role in “Nosferatu” felt like a full circle moment for her and her brother, given their shared love for the Dracula franchise growing up. “I felt like […] maybe I’ll get some cool points with my bro,” added the star with a playful grin.

She also shared that Jack had already seen the film and approved of her performance. “He saw the movie; he loved the movie,” stated Lily-Rose.

Aside from the words she shared in the interview, the actress has further highlighted her deep bond with Jack through touching social media posts on her Instagram. One notable post came on a particularly special occasion — Jack’s 18th birthday.

To mark the milestone, Lily-Rose shared a heartfelt tribute, which included two photos. An image showed Jack in his late teens, lounging casually in a chair outside. He was pictured sitting shirtless in the sunshine, wearing navy blue shorts and a pair of dark sunglasses.

The cover photo of the post was a heartwarming photobooth collage of Lily-Rose and Jack as children. The black-and-white snapshots captured the siblings in playful, candid moments.

In one frame, Lily-Rose hugs her little brother tightly, while in another, the siblings make an adorable attempt at spooky Dracula-like poses — a callback to Lily-Rose’s story about Jack’s childhood obsession with the classic vampire. The photos radiate warmth, sibling love, and the mischievous energy of two kids who clearly share a special connection.

Alongside the images, Lily-Rose penned a touching caption that reflected her adoration for her younger brother. “My little baby Jackie is 18🥺 My baby bro my heart and soul happy birthday I love you SO MUCH!” she wrote.

In another post that Lily-Rose shared, the close siblings were seen celebrating Christmas with their aunt, Alysson Paradis — an actress and the younger sister of their famous mother, Vanessa. In the photo, the trio is gathered on the floor, smiling as they pose for the camera with Jack holding onto an energetic pug.

“Christmas with JiJi @alyssonparadis,” captioned Lily-Rose, referencing the affectionate nickname she uses for her aunt.

Familial moments such as the ones shared by Lily-Rose give followers a rare glimpse into the quiet, intimate world of the Depp family, where love, laughter, and shared memories take center stage.

Blackheads

Blackheads are a very common skin condition that mostly affects your face, neck, back and chest. There are a variety of causes, including too much oil on your skin and hair follicle irritation. Blackheads commonly affect adolescents, but they can occur at any age.

Overview

Blackheads on a nose
Blackheads are small bumps on your skin that look like dark spots because they’re clogged.

What are blackheads?

Blackheads are a type of acne (acne vulgaris). They’re open bumps on the skin that fill with excess oil and dead skin. They look as if dirt is in the bump, but an irregular light reflection off the clogged follicle actually causes the dark spots.

Blackheads aren’t pimples. Pimples are small, painful, discolored bumps with a thick, white-yellow fluid (pus) at the tip.

Who do blackheads affect?

Blackheads typically affect teenagers and young adults undergoing hormonal changes. However, many adults continue to have acne into their 20s, 30s and beyond. Some even develop blackheads for the first time as adults.

How common is this condition?

Blackheads are very common. Some researchers suggest that blackheads affect nearly everyone during their lives. They’re most common among adolescents, but up to 10% to 20% of adults have blackheads too.

How do blackheads affect my body?

Your face (especially your nose and chin, sometimes your cheeks), neck, back and chest are most likely to develop blackheads. However, oil (sebaceous) glands are all over your body. They release an oily lubricant called sebum that helps keep your skin and hair hydrated and shiny. As a result, though it isn’t common, blackheads sometimes appear on your butt, thighs, ears and armpits.

Blackheads don’t seriously affect your physical health, but they can affect you psychosocially (how society and social groups affect your mind) and psychologically (your self-perception and behavior). Blackheads can cause anxiety, depression, mood disorders and suicidal thoughts.

What are the symptoms of blackheads?

Blackheads are a milder form of acne. Dark, open bumps in your skin are the main characteristic of blackheads. They don’t hurt or feel uncomfortable like whiteheads.

What causes blackheads?

Sebaceous glands are located all over your body, and most of them connect to hair follicles. Blackheads and whiteheads are comedones (singular comedo). Blackheads are open comedones, and whiteheads are closed comedones. Comedones occur when a hair follicle/sebaceous gland becomes inflamed. Inflammation can occur as a result of:

  • Increased sebum (oily material produced by the sebaceous gland) production.
  • Abnormal formation of keratin (the protein that helps make your hair, skin and nails).
  • Increased hormones (androgen).
  • An increased presence of bacteria on skin that causes acne.

Are blackheads contagious?

Blackheads aren’t contagious. You can’t spread blackheads to another person through skin-to-skin contact.

Diagnosis and Tests

How are blackheads diagnosed?

Blackheads are easy to recognize, so you don’t necessarily need a healthcare professional to diagnose them. If you have blackheads along with other severe forms of acne, see a dermatologist for treatment. Dermatologists are doctors who specialize in conditions that affect your skin, hair and nails.

Management and Treatment

How are blackheads treated?

Nonprescription medications can treat blackheads. These may include:

  • Salicylic acid: This is available over-the-counter for blackheads as a cleanser or lotion. It helps remove the top layer of damaged skin. Salicylic acid dissolves dead skin cells to prevent your hair follicles from clogging.
  • Azelaic acid: Barley, wheat, rye and other various grains naturally contain azelaic acid. It kills microorganisms on your skin and reduces swelling.
  • Benzoyl peroxide: This is available as an over-the-counter product (such as Clearasil®, Stridex® and PanOxyl®) as a leave-on gel or wash. It targets surface bacteria, which often aggravates acne. Lower concentrations and wash formulations are less irritating to your skin. Irritation (dryness) is a common side effect.
  • Retinoids (vitamin A derivatives): Retinoids, such as Retin-A®, Tazorac® and Differin® (which is now available without a prescription), break up blackheads and whiteheads and help to prevent clogged pores. You may notice a change in skin color or peeling. Using retinoids every other day or using them at the same time as a moisturizer can reduce these side effects.

If your blackheads don’t go away with nonprescription medications, your healthcare provider may recommend:

  • Prescription-strength retinoids: Prescription-strength retinoids are stronger than nonprescription retinoids.
  • Oral antibiotics: Oral antibiotics reduce the bacteria that cause blackheads.
  • Microdermabrasion: A dermatologist uses a specialized instrument to “sand” your skin. Removing the top layers of your skin frees the clogs that cause blackheads.
  • Chemical peels: Chemical peels use a mild chemical solution to remove layers of skin and reduce blackheads.
  • Laser skin resurfacing: Laser skin resurfacing directs short, concentrated pulsating beams of light at your blackheads. The light beams reduce the amount of oil that your sebaceous glands produce.

Are there any home remedies for blackheads?

There are a few home remedies that may help treat blackheads:

  • Tea tree oil: Tea tree oil can prevent or stop the growth of bacteria. Apply a small amount of tea tree oil to a cotton applicator and rub it on your blackheads.
  • Sugar or salt scrubs: Sugar and salt scrubs scratch away (exfoliate) dead cells on the surface of your skin. Wet your face, apply a salt or sugar scrub to your affected areas and massage your skin in small, circular motions for up to 30 seconds. Rinse your face with water when you’re finished.
  • Green tea: Wet green tea leaves can help reduce oil production in your skin. Green tea is also an antioxidant. Mix dry green tea leaves with water and massage the wet leaves into your skin in small, circular motions for up to 30 seconds. Rinse your face with water when you’re finished.

Do blackheads go away on their own?

Blackheads can sometimes go away on their own — it depends on how deep blackheads are in your skin. If a blackhead is close to the surface of your skin, it’s more likely to go away on its own. However, some blackheads can be deeply embedded in your skin. Deep, embedded blackheads are less likely to go away on their own. If you have embedded blackheads, a dermatologist or medical aesthetician can remove them.

Is it okay to squeeze out blackheads?

It can be very tempting — and satisfying — to squeeze out or pop blackheads. However, squeezing out blackheads can create several problems:

  • You may not remove the entire blackhead. You may even push the blackhead further into your skin, which can cause painful irritation.
  • You may introduce bacteria or more oil into the blackhead opening. Your blackheads could get bigger or even spread.
  • Inflammation or scarring. Your skin is sensitive, and your nails are much stronger than your skin. When you use your nails to apply a lot of pressure to your skin to remove a blackhead, you can irritate or seriously damage your skin.

How do you get rid of deep blackheads?

Deep blackheads should be removed by a medical professional — usually a dermatologist or medical aesthetician. They use a small tool with rigid metal loops on the ends (blackhead or comedo extractor) to apply even pressure to your blackheads. They can safely remove the entire blackhead and reduce the risk of it returning.

Prevention

How do you prevent blackheads?

Preventing blackheads is difficult, if not impossible, during normal hormonal changes. But some things can help:

  • Wash your face daily with warm water and a mild facial cleanser.
  • Routinely use moisturizer.
  • You don’t have to stop using makeup, but try to use “noncomedogenic” products and remove makeup at the end of each day.
  • Keep your hands away from your face.

Outlook / Prognosis

What can I expect if I have blackheads?

Blackheads often go away in early adulthood, though some people will continue to experience them throughout their lives. Your healthcare provider, medical aesthetician or dermatologist can help you manage your blackheads.

Living With

When should I see my healthcare provider about my blackheads?

See your healthcare provider as soon as you notice blackheads to start treatment immediately.

What questions should I ask my healthcare provider?

  • How severe are my blackheads?
  • Do I need to see a medical aesthetician or dermatologist?
  • What over-the-counter medications do you recommend?
  • Do I need more serious treatment?

A note from Cleveland Clinic

Blackheads are a common skin condition that affects the majority of people, especially adolescents. Because it mainly affects adolescents, many people attribute blackheads as part of the transition from childhood to adulthood and don’t see a healthcare provider about them. However, despite how common they are, they can have a severe effect on your mental health. If you notice symptoms of anxiety or depression due to the presence of blackheads, talk to your healthcare provider.

No one raised the alarm over Joyce Vincent’s disappearance

The remains of a woman was found some years after her death with the television in her flat still blaring and an array of other items around her body.

Joyce Carol Vincent was born in Hammersmith in October 1965, and at the age of 38, died alone in her London flat sometime in 2003.

However, it wasn’t until three years later in January 2006 that her decomposed body was found by officials from a housing association in North London.

The team were called to repossess the apartment after Vincent failed to pay the rent, but stumbled across the heartbreaking scene.

Her remains were so badly decayed that she could only be formally identified through dental records.

Police later ruled out any third party involvement. While her exact cause of death couldn’t be determined, they said it was likely she died of natural causes, possibly due to asthma.

Filmmaker Carol Morley then set about trying to piece the puzzle of Vincent’s life together, apparently moved by the tragedy.

Morley’s 2011 Dreams of a Life documentary paints Vincent as a woman who was full of life and ambition, but was secretly marred by an undercurrent of isolation and loneliness for reasons that remain a mystery.

Former love interests, colleagues and classmates of Vincent all lifted the lid on what the woman’s life was like, remarking that she was ‘pretty’ and a ‘bright girl’.

A documentary about her life showed she had plenty of relationships (Findagrave.com)

She was a sister to four other women and had a rich employment history, having worked for Ernst & Young, a well-known accounting firm, among others.

Nothing appears to answer Morley’s question about how Vincent ended up being forgotten about for a few years.

A former boyfriend said he dated Vincent for three years and was shocked to learn of her death.

According to Vibe Topics, he said: “You look back and think, I wish I’d asked more, wish I’d understood more.”

Yet the documentary suggests no one really knew Joyce at the core.

Her colleagues reportedly had conflicting ideas about Vincent’s departure when she quit in 2001, believing she went to travel or had been offered another job.

Still, it is her final moments that are perhaps the most revealing to how Vincent led her life.

Bailiffs found her with the TV still on with a pile of unopened mail by her front door.

Dishes were reportedly still in the sink and some wrapped Christmas presents were discovered nearby, which gave the authorities an indication of the time of year when Vincent might’ve died.
