Teen dies after dropping her phone in bathtub while on a call with a friend

A teenager from Italy tragically passed away after she dropped her phone in the bathtub while speaking to a friend.

Maria Antonietta Cutillo, 16, was taking a bath at her family home in Montefalcione in the province of Avellino, Italy, while her parents were not present at the premises.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Cutillo was on a call with her friend while sitting in the water.

The teenager then dropped the device into the water – which was plugged into a nearby outlet to charge – causing it to short circuit, which tragically resulted in her death.

The emergency services were called to her home after her friend became concerned when the call cut out, and they tragically discovered that Cutillo was dead upon their arrival.

Subsequently, the teen’s body was taken to the morgue of the Moscati Hospital in Avellino for an autopsy, where it was revealed that Cutillo was killed by electrocution.

Local police also investigated the heartbreaking incident, which occurred in May, 2023.

Per the Daily Express, the friend Cutillo was talking to took to TikTok after her death to share the following tribute: “You flew to heaven my love, you left screaming my name during a video call. I will never ever forget that moment.

“The last call, the last laugh together, the last nonsense together was today my baby and while you were talking to me this happened.

“I have your voice echoing in my head as you screamed my name, I have the scene in front of my eyes, I have your big green eyes in front of me, I have your laugh in mind.

“You were a spectacular friend, now the school desk next to me will be empty and whoever gets in will never, ever be you.

“I miss you my heart, I have your image fixed in front of my eyes.”

Being electrocuted by a phone may be rare, but sadly, there are other instances of people losing their life following their device short-circuiting.

As reported by the Mirror, 27-year-old Wanchai Deengam from Thailand lost his life in February when he fell asleep with his phone charging.

According to the outlet, a smartwatch was also plugged into the extension plug while two rice cookers and two fans were attached to the wall socket.

Deengam’s older brother, Somkuan Changsarn, became concerned after he was unable to get into contact with his sibling.

“I was suspicious because normally, he wasn’t a deep sleeper. I would always see him sitting in front of his room when I finish work,” Changsarn said.

He continued: “He liked to use his phone just for chatting with friends on the Line application. He used TikTok a lot and Facebook to watch sports but he didn’t play games.

“We spoke before about using phones while they are charging because there were cases in the news about it happening. But everybody still does. I never thought this could happen or I would have warned my brother more.”

Sadly, Deengam was discovered deceased while still clutching his phone. His left arm was resting on his Samsung phone.

Police Captain Jiratchaya Yordkum from the Rat Burana Metropolitan Police Station said: “We found no traces of assault or ransacking. We suspect that a short circuit might have caused his electrocution.”

The Police Captain added that the deceased 27-year-old had plugged his device into the socket without using the correct adapter.

Airline passenger left outraged after discovering they were 'moved from seat' because of a dog

The dog reportedly sat on the passenger’s seat for ‘the whole flight’

An airline passenger was left horrified when they were reportedly moved from their seat to accommodate a dog.

The disgruntled passenger took to Reddit to complain about the issue they faced, claiming the service dog was ‘too big to fit on the floor’ and therefore was allowed to sit on their seat during a United Airlines flight from San Diego to Denver.

“I boarded a flight from SAN to DEN and an enormous ‘service’ dog was sitting on my seat,” the passenger wrote.

“He was way too big to fit on the floor. The flight attendant was a few rows away and when asked if she saw the dog, she just shrugged.

“My husband and I tried to resolve it with the passenger but there was no way that dog could fit under his legs in his window seat. Since we were told that it was a completely full flight, and the dog was taking my seat, I thought I was going to get bumped off the flight by this dog.”

The passenger explained that eventually, a flight attendant found another seat for them, leaving the animal on the seat next to their owner – which they found ‘absurd’.

“A United staff member came onboard and spoke to the passenger but the dog remained,” they continued.

“Finally, somehow they located another seat for me. The dog stayed on my seat for the whole flight. Totally absurd that an oversized dog can displace a paying passenger from their seat. United needs to crack down on passengers abusing the ‘service’ animal allowance.

“How can someone be allowed onboard with a dog that big without buying an extra seat?

“United’s policy is that service dogs ‘can’t be in the aisle or the floor space of the travelers next to you’. Also it is nasty to have a dog outside of a carrier sitting on passengers’ seats with his butt on the armrests.

“The gate agents carefully check the size my carry-on, but apparently they don’t monitor the size of people’s ‘service’ dogs! WTH?!”

People had a lot of opinions on the issue, with many sharing their thoughts in the comments.

One person wrote: “Service dogs are required to sit on the floor at the passenger’s feet. Not on a seat. This is for the animal’s safety since it can’t wear a proper seatbelt.”

While another added: “As a disability lawyer, you need to start making mass complaints to the airline. They know that an SD has to be either: in the floor space and or under the seat in front of its handler, or the handler has to purchase a second seat. If the dog encroaches on another passenger’s foot space (or seat), the handler has to buy a second seat, and the dog can be IN the FOOT space of the their seat, and the 2nd seat. A non-lap dog can NOT be in the seat for takeoff & landing.”

A third said the dog ‘should have been removed from the seat’ regardless of whether the passenger was relocated or not.

Over on the website, United Airlines states: “Your dog should sit in the floor space in front of your seat. They can’t be in the aisle or the floor space of the travelers next to you.”

Born Ramón Gerardo Antonio Estévez on August 3, 1940, he adopted a different professional name and is known for his roles in “The Subject Was Roses” and “Badlands.”

The actor with a striking acting range achieved wide recognition in 1979 when he played the lead role of Captain Benjamin Willard in “Apocalypse Now.”

He is a multiple Emmy, SAG, and Golden Globe Award winner and is one of America’s most celebrated, accomplished, and colorful actors.

Child of Immigrants Dreaming to Be an Actor

This mysterious actor was born to an Irish mother, Mary-Ann Phelan, and a Spanish father, Francisco Estévez Martínez. His parents had met in Ohio when they were both attending citizenship school.

He was born in Dayton, Ohio, and is one of ten children. At birth, a pair of forceps crushed his left shoulder and left his left arm paralyzed for a long time, causing him to have limited lateral movement of his left arm.

Growing up, he didn’t see his family as poor because everyone they knew lived like them. Before his 11th birthday, he lost his mother, and even though it was tough for him, it made him very strong, tolerant, and appreciative of his father.

As a young child, around six or seven years old, he started going to the movies, and gradually, it dawned on Martin that he was going to be an actor.

While going to high school, he worked as a caddy for nine years at a private golf club in Dayton, Ohio. He had great experiences there and was able to help his father.

The actor in question is Martin Sheen. He wasn’t interested in anything other than the dramatics club, where he did a lot of plays in high school. Father Alfred Drapp became his mentor and loaned Sheen the money he needed to go to New York.

The first time Martin stepped on stage was as a freshman when he played the role of a yeoman court stenographer in “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial” by Herman Wouk. After moving to New York in his early 20s, he realized his name wasn’t helpful as he tried to make it as an actor. People couldn’t pronounce it, and so he decided to change it.

For a new stage name, he took the names of two people he found inspirational: one was Robert Dale Martin, a casting director at CBS, and the other, Fulton J Sheen, the American archbishop. However, he still retained his birth name on his ID.

Meeting the Love of His Life

Martin is married to Janet Sheen, born July 8, 1944, in Ohio, as Janet Elizabeth Templeton. She is an actress with two acting credits to her name and a producer. Janet is known for “The Way,” “Kennedy,” and “Beverly Hills Brats.”

Martin and Janet met in the winter of 1960 after Janet arrived in New York from Ohio. She was the only daughter of an unwed mother and had spent her first six years with her grandparents in Kentucky.

Janet then moved to Cleveland, where she attended public schools before gaining two university scholarships. After they had started dating, they were still struggling to make ends meet when Janet got pregnant with their first son, Emilio.

They were young when they got married on December 23, 1961. It was a fifteen-minute ceremony at the altar of the church of St. Stephen. Their wedding was sandwiched between an 8 a.m. Mass and a funeral.

Afterward, they had an impromptu breakfast reception at a Jewish deli in the neighborhood with a dozen of friends from the Living Theatre. The day couldn’t have been more perfect for the couple.

Struggling to Make Ends Meet

Their financial struggles continued, and they were evicted from their home. They packed what they could fill in a suitcase and went to live with Martin’s father and brothers.

He later found a cheap apartment and lived in the same building Paul Newman once rented. For two years, the building became their home. When they had their second son, Ramón, the baby came so fast that they didn’t have time to go to the hospital and had to deliver their baby alone.

They had a complicated delivery as the baby got stuck in the birth canal, and Janet hemorrhaged. Martin called for an ambulance, but the baby arrived first.

Martin thought they would have twins until Janet corrected him when the placenta was about to come out. Thankfully, both mother and son were pronounced fine by the time they got to the hospital.

Scariest Woman but the Best Wife

While filming his Vietnam movie “Apocalypse Now” in the Philippines, Martin became skinny and suffered a heart attack, but his wife helped him get grounded. After the heart attack, he was airlifted to Makati Medical Center in Manila. As he was being raced down the corridor in a gurney, Janet whispered to him, saying it’s only a movie.

When he realized she was right, he started to recover, and the bond they formed on that day solidified their marriage. He had survived the heart attack mental part, and Janet was helping him heal psychically.

The heart attack took a toll on Martin. He confessed ” I completely fell apart. My spirit was exposed. I cried and cried. I turned gray- my eyes, my beard, all gray.” His wife was beside him through it all and slept on the floor while he was in intensive care.

However, Martin knew he needed to do a lot of work to get out this, and part of that was taking responsibility for the part he played in his health complications.

In December 2015, when he underwent quadruple-bypass heart surgery, his wife was there trying to make him laugh. She was always telling him not to take himself so seriously. When he was a struggling alcoholic and troubled in many areas, his wife had her work cut out for her. However, he didn’t get sober until ten years after his first heart attack.

Martin and Janet celebrated their 60th anniversary during COVID-19. When he was asked how he had managed to stay married to the same woman for so long. He said, “I was fortunate enough to marry the scariest woman I’d ever met. She did not lie. It was impossible.”

The actor always appreciated his wife’s honesty and believed that it was what had kept him grounded and allowed for their marriage to last 61 years. On top of the honesty, the family always tried their best to stay together. Whenever Martin was shooting away from home the children knew they would be pulled out of school.

For him, he had never met a person with more integrity in his life. It had taken him a long time to be as even and direct as she is because he honestly couldn’t keep up with her. He said

“And that’s the relationship. I honestly don’t have a clue who she is because when I get to the point where I’ve caught up with her, she’s gone.”

Supportive Dad to Kids Who Followed His Footsteps

Martin is a loving and supportive father to Emilio, Ramón, Carlos (Charlie Sheen), and Renée. Emilio is a film director, screenwriter, and producer who famously became part of the informal mid-1980s “Brat Pack.”

Ramón is an actor and theater director who has appeared in several movies in the 1980s and 1990s, like “Cadence,” “A State of Emergency,” and more. Carlos, popularly known as Charlie, is also an actor known for his roles in “Platoon,” co-starred with his father in “Wall Street” and starred in the CBS sitcom “Two and a Half Men” making him the highest-paid actor in TV.

His last child, Renée, is an actress and screenwriter who first started in 1986 in “Babies Having Babies.” She has also starred in “Shattered Spirits” and “Heathers.”
Martin never imagined his children would follow in his footsteps. He was surprised when he saw Emilio on the movie set, where he discovered his son’s talent. He also ensured they didn’t get any roles by asking for favors.

A woman who mysteriously disappeared 52 years ago has finally been found alive.

Sheila Fox disappeared from Coventry, UK, in 1972 when she was just 16 years old, The Guardian reported.

West Midlands police reported that the missing teenager had been living with her parents at the time of her disappearance and may have been in a relationship with a man.

For decades, investigators explored all possibilities and held onto the hope that Fox had simply moved away from the area. However, no trace of her was found until a renewed appeal led to a breakthrough.

On Sunday (December 29), West Midlands Police released a grainy photograph of Fox from the time of her disappearance on their website and social media platforms.

Within hours of its release, members of the public got in touch with police about crucial information that led to finding the woman, who is now 68.

On Wednesday (January 1), authorities revealed that Fox is alive, and well, and is now living in another part of the country.

A police spokesperson spoke about the incredible discovery in a news release, which read: “We are delighted to announce the conclusion of one of West Midlands police’s longest-running missing person investigations.”

“A single photo of Sheila from around the time of her disappearance was found by officers investigating and published on our website and social media. Within hours of the appeal, members of the public got in touch with information which led the team to her,” they added.

DS Jenna Shaw, from the cold case investigation team, also shared a statement: “We searched through every piece of evidence we could find and managed to locate a photo of Sheila.

“We are a small team of officers and I’d like to recognize the work of DC Shaun Reeve, who managed to resolve this case with help from the public. Every missing person has a story, and their families and friends deserve to know what happened to them and, hopefully, be reunited with them,” she said.

The force recognized that advancements in forensic technology have greatly enhanced their ability to investigate cold cases, leading to success in identifying and locating missing people.

People are only just discovering what AM and PM stand for and it's left them feeling 'stupid'

Most of us use the abbreviations every day, but do you know what they stand for?

People are just realising what AM and PM stand for – and their minds are blown.

There are some things in our day-to-day lives that we simply never question, and if you’ve never really wondered too much about what the letters mean, you wouldn’t be the only one.

Used to describe whether the time is before or after noon, most of us say or write AM and PM every single day.

But have you ever thought about the meaning behind the abbreviations?

Over on X – formerly Twitter – one person asked: “I might be called stupid after this but wtf does ‘AM’ & ‘PM’ Stand for?”

People were divided. While some were baffled that the user had even asked, assuming it was common knowledge, others also had no idea.

One person commented: “Ok I’ll be the first one to not offend you for not knowing this. You probably did hear it in school but just forgot it.”

While another said: “How did you get through high school without knowing this?”

And a third added: “Literally never thought about it and just learned today.”

While a fourth wrote: “My mind just exploded.”

“I bet 5,000 people got the answer to that question from this post, when they didn’t even have the question in them before this post. That makes it a great post. It made people think and answered the question,” added a fifth.

Others were sarcastic, however, with another adding: “Wow, this gives me a great idea! What if there was some way on the internet that you could search for answers without having to ask specific people? I think a site that could do that might do very well!”

And a second said: “Means look it up on google and it will tell u. But of course you get no interaction if u do it that way.”

So what does it mean?

You may already know that AM stands for ante meridiem, in Latin, which translates to ‘before midday’.

Meanwhile, PM stands for post meridiem, meaning ‘after midday’.

Royal Museums Greenwich explain that ‘noon is therefore neither ‘ante’ (am) nor ‘post’ (pm) meridiem’ and ‘midnight is also neither AM or PM’.

If you don’t often use AM or PM, you might prefer a 24-hour clock.

This method of timekeeping runs from midnight to midnight with each hour increasing from midnight.

For example, 5pm reads as 17:00, which correlates to 17 hours past midnight.

While Decorating a Gingerbread House, My Daughter Said, ‘It’s Beautiful, like the Secret House Daddy Takes Me to Every Weekend’

When my daughter compared our gingerbread home to the “secret house Daddy takes me to every weekend,” I laughed it off until she mentioned a pretty lady with candy. A few days later, I found myself following my husband, although I’d never been a suspicious type of woman.

I’m a surgeon with hours that can only be described as absurd. I do love my job. Saving lives is my calling, but sometimes my career asks too much of me. Too much of my time. I felt like I was missing every milestone with my family.

My husband, Mark, was the glue that held us together. He worked from home and took care of Emma, our six-year-old firecracker who never seemed to run out of energy or things to say.

Last year, on a day around mid-December, I made a rare escape from the hospital and promised myself the evening belonged to Emma. She had been asking to decorate a gingerbread house for weeks.

I couldn’t say no.

My daughter was extremely excited when I got home early and unearthed the gingerbread house kit from the pantry.

“Mommy, can we make it really pretty? With gumdrops and frosting and sprinkles and cookies?” she asked, jumping in place as I started putting the contents of the box on the counter.

“Of course, sweetheart. We’ll use every candy in the house and more if we have to,” I replied, ruffling her hair.

Soon, Emma’s giggles filled the kitchen while we spread frosting over the gingerbread walls and stuck gumdrops in neat little rows. For a second, I felt guilty, like I could be saving someone at that moment.

But I shook off the feeling when Emma beamed at me. “This is the best day ever!” she exclaimed.

My chest swelled with pride. “I’m glad, sweetie.”

After putting one last gumdrop on the roof, she stepped back to check out the house from all angles. “It’s so beautiful, Mommy. It’s like the secret house Daddy takes me to every weekend,” she said.

A chuckle escaped my lips before I could fully register her words. “I’m sorry, sweetie. What did you say?”

It took a while for her to answer me. She was too concentrated on inspecting the house in case it needed more candy. So, I asked again.

“The secret house,” she finally replied. “You know, the one with the pretty lady who gives me candy and calls me ‘dear.’ She’s really nice.”

My heart skipped a beat. “The pretty lady?” I asked, as calmly as I could.

Emma nodded and finally glanced up at me. “Yeah! Oh, wait.” She paused, her mouth dropping. “I wasn’t supposed to tell you. Daddy said it’s a secret. Oops! Are you mad?”

“Of course not, sweetheart,” I said with a forced smile. “Secrets are fun sometimes, right?”

She nodded, relaxed, and went back to decorating, while I felt something that I’d never felt before… insecurity.

Later that night, as Mark read Emma a bedtime story, I stood in our kitchen, replaying her words over and over. Was he… cheating?

My stomach churned at the thought, and my mind leaped to every worst-case scenario.

When we went to bed, I pretended to fall asleep right away, though I knew resting would be impossible. I wanted to confront him, but what if Emma had misunderstood?

I never had any reason to doubt Mark. Yet what else could involve a pretty lady and a secret house?

I knew communication was always the answer, and it had worked for us many times in the past. But something about this seemed too hard to ask.

“Hey, baby, are you cheating on me?”

Not exactly words any spouse wants to hear. I needed answers or proof before accusing him of something so serious.

My daughter said Daddy took her to the house every weekend, so my best bet was the upcoming Saturday.

In the meantime, I was patient and pretended nothing was wrong. When Saturday morning came, I was ready. I told Mark there was an emergency at the hospital.

“I’ll probably be gone all day,” I added, hoping I was showing the right amount of concern for a fake patient.

Mark knew how long my surgeries could be, so he didn’t question me. He just gave me a quick kiss on the cheek. “No worries, baby. I’ll keep Emma entertained.”

After closing the door behind me, I went to my car and drove it around the corner. There, I waited. Just ten minutes later, Mark came out of the house, leading Emma to his car.

I followed them at a distance, feeling my trembling hands on the steering wheel. Was I doing the right thing?

They drove through town, toward the edge, where houses thinned a bit and trees thickened. It wasn’t in the forest, though. We were still near civilization.

In fact, I recognized the area because I passed through it every day to get to work. The hospital was around five minutes away.

The thought of Mark’s mistress living so close to my work felt like another betrayal. But I couldn’t think about it just then. I pulled myself together and concentrated on driving slowly while trying not to be noticed behind him.

Finally, Mark turned into the driveway of a house that looked like it belonged on a Christmas card. It only made everything worse.

The property had brown brick walls, a white trim, and a red door. Pine trees surrounded it, and snow blanketed the yard like powdered sugar. It was a dream come true; the kind of place you’d pick for a family.

My daughter was right. It was similar to the gingerbread house. The only thing that could possibly make it better were Christmas decorations.

I was so swept in a vision of this house with twinkling lights that I missed it when Mark and Emma got out of the car. I snapped out of it and saw them walking up to the porch while a woman stepped out of the front door.

My heart clenched.

She had soft brown hair that fell in loose waves around her shoulders and a smile that could light up any room. When Emma got close, she leaned down for a hug and handed her a candy cane.

Mark greeted her with a warm, knowing smile and went into the house. That was it. I couldn’t take it anymore. I pressed on the gas to get closer, then slammed on the brakes and jumped out of the car. I barely remember putting it in park.

But it didn’t matter. “Excuse me,” I called out, stomping up to the woman and my daughter.

“Mommy!” Emma squealed, pointing behind her. “Look! The house!”

The woman turned to me with a big, bright smile. “Oh, hello! You must be Eleanor.”

I stopped in front of them, breathless. “And you are?” I demanded.

“Lily,” she said, extending her hand. “It’s so nice to meet you. I’m the contractor working on the house.”

“Contractor?” I echoed, wrinkling my nose.

“Yes,” she said, nodding. Then she frowned. “Wait, you didn’t know about this? Oh, dear.”

Before I could respond, Mark appeared in the doorway. His face paled when he saw me.

“Eleanor, what are you doing here?”

“I think the better question is, what are you doing here?” I snapped. “And why is our daughter calling this the ‘secret house’?”

Mark sighed and stepped closer. “I can explain.”

“You’d better,” I said, crossing my arms as Emma wrapped herself around my legs.

Lily cleared her throat. “I think I’ll let you two talk,” she said, retreating into the house.

Mark looked straight into my eyes, and his expression sent a jolt of confusion through me. Was that…disappointment?

“Eleanor,” he sighed, “this isn’t what you think.”

“Really? Because it looks like you’re sneaking around with another woman and dragging our daughter into it!” My voice cracked despite my effort to stay calm.

Mark’s jaw tightened. “If you’d let me explain—”

“Then explain!” I interrupted, huffing.

He took a deep breath… and smiled. What?

“The house is for us, baby,” he confessed. “I bought it with my inheritance from my dad. I’ve been working with Lily to renovate it as a surprise for you. Well, for us. Sheis a contractor.”

I blinked. In all my scenarios, I hadn’t considered this. Yet, I’d just pictured myself living here.

“I’m sorry. Wh-what?” I stammered, shaking my head.

Mark gestured toward the house. “You’re always exhausted from the commute and the hospital shifts. I thought if we lived closer to the hospital, you’d have more time at home. I also wanted it to be the perfect surprise, so I didn’t want you to know about it until it was ready.”

The anger melted away from my body in a rush. “You… you did this for me?” I felt stupid for even having to ask again.

“For us,” he corrected gently. “For you, me, and Emma. There’s a reading nook by the window, and Emma has her own playroom. The kitchen is a dream. Our master bathroom has two sinks…”

My lips started shaking as he continued describing the house. “I don’t know what to say,” I murmured, afraid that I might not be able to contain my emotions.

“You don’t have to say anything,” Mark smiled, stepping closer. “I just wanted to make things easier for you.”

Just then, Emma tugged at my shirt, so I looked down. “See, Mommy? It’s just like the gingerbread house. We can decorate it with candy too! Lily has tons of candy!”

I exhaled and started to laugh, a few tears escaping. I quickly wiped them away before Lily came out.

Lily shook our hands, then walked to her car. When she was out of sight, Emma ran toward the house. “Come see the inside!”

But instead of following, I grabbed my husband’s jacket and pulled him to me for a quick, fiery kiss. “Thank you,” I whispered.

Mark blinked, stunned momentarily, then smiled tenderly.

“Come on!” Emma urged from the front door. We laughed, following her inside to see our new place.

Here’s another storyMindy’s wedding was perfect, surrounded by loved ones, vows, and roses. Just as she was about to say “I do,” the church doors burst open and a little girl bolted toward the groom. A chilling silence filled the room when she looked up and asked: “Dad, are you going to do to her what you did to Mom?”

Aidan Chapman died on New Year’s Eve after being hit by a car on Christmas Day

The mum of a man who died from his injuries after being hit by a car on Christmas Day has spoken out about his loss.

Aidan Chapman, 25, was rushed to hospital on Christmas Day in the early hours of the morning after being one of four people hurt when a car crashed into pedestrians in London.

The father-of-one died of his injuries on New Year’s Eve.

A man had driven on the wrong side of the road on Shaftesbury Avenue and a 30-year-old named Anthony Gilheaney was charged with four counts of attempted murder, along with causing serious injury by driving whilst disqualified and possessing a knife in a public place.

Police are treating Aidan’s death as a homicide.

In the immediate aftermath of their son’s death, his parents called Aidan ‘a loving, kind, funny soul and the world is a darker place without him’, and his mum has spoken out further.

Speaking to the Metro, Aidan’s mum Yasemin Akcajoca, 61, said she had ‘lost the light of my life’ after his death.

She said: “He was the light of everyone’s life he was so unique.

“On the day it happened he went out with a friend, he had so many friends. I didn’t want him to go out. The last thing he said was ‘I’ll see you in a couple of hours’. Then I got a call at 4am from the hospital. The worst call ever.

“The police took me to the hospital with blue lights. The journey was a nightmare it seemed to take forever. His injuries were too bad. He did not regain consciousness. I held his hand and spoke to him. It’s heartbreaking. I have lost my best friend.

“He was a great dad and a friend to all. He loved music and diving he was just such an amazing character. He wanted a career in music, music was his world.”

She went on to add that he was ‘brilliant together and really close’ with his 16-year-old sister and leaves behind a five-year-old son.

“We have not got his body so we cannot plan the funeral. It’s so stressful, we have been given so little information,” Yasemin said to the Metro.

“My daughter hasn’t come out of her room, we are very broken. I have to go forward for her sake.

“Aidan’ son is young but his mother said she will keep Aidan’s memory alive with him.”

The 25-year-old’s mum said that the many messages and offers of help she’d received after her son’s death was ‘a reflection of how popular Aidan was’.

Anthony Gilheaney is expected to appear before the Old Bailey on 24 January, the Metropolitan Police said the charges against him would be reviewed in the wake of Aidan’s death.

American author Stephen King ordered one of his books to be taken off shelves for good

Legendary author Stephen King asked for one of his novels to be taken out of print for good, and it will never be available again for a specific reason.

King has produced a plethora of bestselling books throughout his career, penning 65 in total since the release of his first novel back in 1974, titled Carrie.

Best known for his work in the horror genre, with many such as The Shining and IT making it to screen, the American author is known as one of the best to ever put pen to page, with his ability to produce so much quality work over a short period of time leaving many in awe.

But there is one book among his bibliography that you wouldn’t be able to find in any bookstores.

It’s from pretty early on in his career – back in 1977, King released The Shining, while author Richard Bachman also published his novel, Rage.

But it turns out that King and Bachman were the same person, with the author’s name of the latter simply a pseudonym.

If you go looking for Rage though, you won’t find a newly printed copy, as the only ones left in circulation are those printed before the author decided he didn’t want it being released any more.

For a short while it was still being published in The Bachman Books collection, but now versions of those also come without the novel.

You can buy old copies that appear for auction online, but there’s not going to be new stock coming onto the bookshop shelves.

“Now out of print, and a good thing,” King wrote of Rage at the beginning of his novel Blaze, while during a speech in 1999 he explained why a 1997 school shooting from a 14-year-old named Michael Carneal where three were killed and five injured convinced him it was time to pull the book from print.

He said: “The Carneal incident was enough for me. I asked my publisher to take the damned thing out of print. They concurred.”

At the time of the shooting the 14-year-old had a copy of Rage in his locker.

Rage follows a high school student who carries out a school shooting after being expelled, killing two of his teachers and threatening to kill students unless his demands are met.

By the end of the book, the school shooter is shot, arrested, found not guilty by reason of insanity, and committed to a psychiatric hospital.

The book was linked to a number of school shootings.

Following the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012, King wrote the essay Guns where he further explained why he didn’t want Rage in print any more.

Matt Spear deleted all of his social media accounts in 2020

A man who deleted social media for years has revealed some of the biggest, life-altering changes he experienced when he ditched the apps.

Matt Spear said goodbye to social media back in 2020 and has never looked back since.

“It was a total waste of time, I’d just be on there scrolling for no reason, comparing myself to others,” he said on YouTube.

“It’s a trap, it’s a game, you’re a rat on a hamster wheel. I finally realised, why am I so worried about other people’s lives when I’m literally so unhappy myself?

“I deleted the apps… the other reason I deleted them is because I liked the idea of being a mystery, I liked the idea of disappearing from the internet and reinventing myself.”

Matt explained that he’s a ‘way better version of [himself]’ these days, adding: “As soon as I deleted social media, there were no negatives. You will not find a single person tell you that when they deleted social media, their life got worse.”

The YouTuber went on to explain all the big changes he noticed when he finally quit the apps for good.

No more FOMO

Matt explained after he gave up social media he was finally able to focus on himself and ‘killed the FOMO’ – AKA fear of missing out.

“I got rid of the fear, who cares what other people are doing? I didn’t mind being alone anymore,” he said.

“I’m more worried about what I’m doing and what I’m going to accomplish. I genuinely don’t care what other people are doing.”

Matt explained that if you don’t want to delete your accounts completely, it might be worth having a month off to experience the benefits.

More time

Matt believes social media is ‘an addiction’ and claims he’s ‘finally free’ of constantly checking his phone, which has ultimately given him loads more spare time.

“I’m free from that,” he said.

“My screen time is so low. What is so attractive about your phone now? Not much, there’s nothing on your phone.

“… I’m so much happier for it… It’s a waste of time, a distraction to keep you stuck, to keep you addicted.”

Boosts mental health

Matt says he’s noticed a huge improvement in his mental health and happiness since he quit the apps.

“It improves your mental health because you’re not always dialled into your phone, you’re just focused on you and how you can better yourself,” he said.

“That’s all you should be focused on.”

Over the last few years, research has indicated that quitting social media can hugely benefit your mental health.

A 2022 study asked 154 participants to stop using social media for a week. Those that did reported significantly reduced anxiety and depression as well as overall greater wellbeing.

Validation

Matt believes after he deleted social media, he found himself no longer seeking validation.

“I was no longer living for other people or going places with the intent of ‘oh I’ve got to find a cool Instagram picture’ so people will like me,” he explained.

Matt recalled that when he was younger, he’d been to a Celtics game where he sat courtside, but instead of enjoying the game, he spent the whole time trying to work out ‘how to get a cool picture’.

“You stop living for other people and seeking so much validation,” he added.

“It helped me, it changed me and bettered my life completely.”
