The father of the groom has spoken out for a change in seat belt laws in the Australian state

The father of the groom whose Hunter Valley wedding ended in the death of 10 guests in a tragic bus crash has spoken out about a change in seat belt laws.

25 people were left injured following the tragic accident, which took place at the Wandin Estate Winery in Lovedale, Hunter Valley, Australia, on 11 June 2023.

The incident took place just hours after groom Mitchell Gaffney and bride Madeleine Edsell said their ‘I Dos’, with the trip back to the accommodation ending in disaster.

In foggy conditions, a coach that was believed to be carrying about 40 guests rolled on a roundabout near the Hunter Expressway at Greta, New South Wales. 10 people died as a result of the crash.

At the time, police assistant commissioner Tracy Chapman said that the 58-year-old driver, named Brett Button, was being held at a police station, and was set to be arrested and charged.

52 fresh charges were brought to Button weeks later, including dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and causing bodily harm by misconduct, with most of them relating to the guests who were injured.

Police alleged that Button was driving too quickly and lost control after telling passengers to ‘fasten your seatbelts’.

In the aftermath, John Gaffney, Mitchell’s father, called for a change in seat belt laws.

Speaking on a post on LinkedIn, he called for a change so passengers would be ‘compelled by laws to wear them’.

He went on: “Hopefully something positive can come out of this tragedy. 50 years ago the fitting and wearing of seat belts became compulsory in Australia for all occupants of motor cars saving countless lives since.”

Seat belts are mandatory in New South Wales, and while everyone on board a bus is required to wear a seat belt if one is present, it is not the driver’s responsibility to ensure they are used.

“Whilst my wife and I can’t do this on our own we believe ultimately everyone who rides a bus should have access to a seatbelt and be compelled by laws to wear them,” Gaffney went on.

He then called for help from political figures, adding: “If a federal government petition could be set up that would be most appreciated.”

The mother of the groom, Carolyn Gaffney, echoed these sentiments on Facebook, and hoped that ‘something good’ can come out of this, hoping that higher ups make the right moves to change the law for good.

New South Wales premier Chris Minns has said that over half a million Australian dollars had been donated to help the victim’s families, while Victoria premier Daniel Andrews announced he would donate up to $580,000AUD to the family members of Bulman.

Button was sentenced to 32 years behind bars for the crime in September 2024, and was in the midst of a prescription opioid dependency.

He was found to be driving too fast, and though he was first charged with manslaughter, he instead pleaded guilty to a number of dangerous driving offences after taking a prosecution deal, reported the BBC.

Chad Franke has revealed the point where he believes things got more ‘chaotic’ at home

Warning: This article contains discussion of child abuse which some readers may find distressing

Ruby Franke’s eldest son, Chad, has spoken out about the disgraced content creator for the first time since her sentencing last year.

Together with his father, Kevin, the pair spoke in an exclusive interview with ABC News, where they opened up about their living situation and how their home life ‘changed’.

Ruby Franke and family therapist Jodi Hildebrandt were arrested in August 2023, after Ruby’s son escaped their property and asked a neighbour for help, with his ankles and wrists duct taped and covered in several wounds.

A Hulu documentary on the case is set to be released tomorrow (27 February), and you can view the trailer below:

Disturbing unseen footage of the mother verbally berating her children can be seen in the trailer, giving viewers a glimpse into what to expect in the doc.

Franke and Hildebrandt were sentenced to four counts of one to 15 years in prison for aggravated child abuse, which can only add up to a maximum of 30 years, due to a Utah law on capping consecutive sentences.

Ruby was known for starting her family YouTube channel 8 Passengers, which accumulated over a billion views before being deleted in 2023.

Speaking during the interview, Kevin made a number of admissions, includingbeing completely unaware of the abuse of the couple’s children, while stating that he ‘still’ loves her – but doesn’t forgive her for what she’s done.

Kevin, who shares six children with Franke, also sent an urgent message out to other families looking to make it on social media.

He highlighted: “I want people to know that there is real danger when you place yourself or your family or children out onto public social media.”

Now, Chad has weighed in with what he thinks about his mother’s conviction, telling ABC reporter Eva Pilgrim that despite having ‘very fond memories’ of his childhood, he can pinpoint when things started to change for the worse.

As the family’s social media presence got bigger, things got messier, he claims.

When asked about when the family dynamic switched, he answered: “I think once companies started coming to us offering big money for scripts.”

He went on: “It was a chaotic, chaotic experience,

“So lots of yelling, lots of snapping and lots of time outs in the corner.”

Kevin and Chad also agreed that when Franke’s business partner, Hildebrandt, got increasingly involved in their home life, the family dynamic changed even more.

Chad recalled: “Looking back, I treated her as a god, and I trusted her so much.”

Kevin added: “She came across as somebody who was firm and very authoritative, and so we thought, this is the perfect fit.

“What became surprising to me was when the focus gradually shifted away from just solely on our children to us as a couple,” he said.

As a result, Kevin says he was pushed out of his family home by Franke and Hildebrandt as they cut him off from his family and accused him of having an ‘addiction to selfishness’.

“The bottom line is that I was choosing to trust a licensed professional mental health counsellor and my wife, and they gave some terrible counsel,” the father said.

Full timeline of the Ruby Franke case

Starting a YouTube channel and initial suspicions

Franke started her parenting YouTube channel 8 Passengers with now ex-husband Kevin, amassing over 2.5 million subscribers before it was deleted in 2023 following the arrest.

Several subscribers became suspicious of child abuse, with a petition being signed for the police to investigate the family, citing the numerous questionable videos uploaded.

Franke joins ConneXions with Jodi Hildebrandt

The mum told critics in a 2021 interview for The Wrap that she was showing everyone ‘what a responsible mother looks like’.

She stopped uploading videos to the channel in 2022, joining Mormon therapist Hildebrandt’s ConneXions podcast.

Their divisive opinions on subjects such as eating disorders, blaming rape victims, and criticising immigrants drew the wrong kind of attention.

Franke and Hildebrandt’s arrest

Franke and Hildebrandt were arrested on child abuse charges in August 2023.

The Santa Clara Public Safety Department were called to the Ivins neighbourhood in Utah after a neighbour was alerted by Franke’s ’emaciated’ 12-year-old son, who escaped to knock on their door to ask for help.

He had visible marks and wounds from duct tape put around his ankles, and asked for some food and water.

Police found his 10-year-old sister in a ‘similar physical condition of malnourishment’ in Hildebrandt’s house.

Family members speak out

Franke’s oldest daughter, Shari, wrote on Instagram on the day of the arrests: “Today has been a big day.”

She continued: “Me and my family are so glad justice is being served. We’ve been trying to tell the police and CPS for years about this, and so glad they finally decided to step up.”

In November, Kevin also officially filed for divorce from Franke, and called her actions to their children ‘horrific and inhumane’.

Franke and Hildebrandt are charged with six counts of child abuse

Just one week after their arrests, the pair were charged with six counts of felony child abuse.

YouTube banned Franke, deleting both 8 Passengers and ConneXions channels and blocking her from the social media platform.

Franke blames the abuse on Hildebrandt

Her attorneys released a statement that said: “Initially, Ms. Franke believed that Jodi Hildebrandt had the insight to offer a path to continual improvement. Ms. Hildebrandt took advantage of this quest and twisted it into something heinous,” according to Fox13.

It blamed Hildebrandt solely for isolating Franke from her family completely, distorting her morality.

Franke pleads guilty

Just three days after the statement was released, Franke pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated child abuse. A court had heard how she had tried to convince her youngest children they were ‘evil and possessed’.

Franke and Hildebrandt are sentenced to prison for child abuse

On 20 February 2024, Franke and Hildebrandt were convicted and given four separate prison sentences for one to 15 years, with the length of each sentence decided by the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole.

During sentencing Franke apologised to her children and said she would ‘never stop crying for hurting their tender souls’.

She said: “My willingness to sacrifice all for you was masterfully manipulated into something very ugly.

“I took from you all that was soft and safe and good.”

The two women will not serve more than 30 years in a Federal Penitentiary because of a Utah law about consecutive sentences.

Jeff Bezos uses 'two-pizza' rule for meetings at Amazon for incredibly smart reason

Jeff Bezos uses 'two-pizza' rule for meetings at Amazon for incredibly smart reason

The Amazon CEO implemented the rule many years ago

With companies as big as Amazon, it’s fair to say you’d imagine the CEOs to have various regulations in place to keep things in line and ensure success.

But Jeff Bezos has a pretty specific, and perhaps more obscure-sounding rule for an incredibly smart reason.

Back in the day, before it became the global way of ordering anything and everything you could possibly need online, Amazon was simply a small online bookstore in the US.

And Bezos was getting in early in setting up those in the company for continued success with his ‘two-pizza’ rule.

At first, you might think this is some kind of metaphor for business plans or something, but it really is just about pizza.

Essentially, Bezos asked that every internal team within the company should be no larger than a group of people able to be fed by two pizzas – so, about five to eight staff members in total.

“We try to create teams that are no larger than can be fed by two pizzas,” Bezos explained. “We call that the two-pizza team rule.”

You might be wondering what on earth eating pizza has to do with running a business, but the idea of the two-pizza rule isn’t about cutting down on food costs or delegating more work to less employees either.

In fact, it’s that smaller groups of employees are able to work more efficiently as a team.

If implemented properly, Bezos argued the rule would create a more productive and collaborative team, which in turn gives them the edge over competitors when it comes to speed.

“A key factor in enabling constant innovation and speed in a two-pizza team structure is empowering them with a single-threaded focus,” Amazon’s Web Services page outlining the policy adds.

It's not necessarily about the staff eating pizza. (Getty Stock)

This pizza strategy also allows for individual team members to actively contribute to the project, which allows them a greater sense of ownership and empowerment over their work.

Bezos is also said to apply the same line of thinking to how many people should be in attendance at a meeting.

So no, Jeff Bezos’ two-pizza rule does not mean Amazon employees are just sat around in groups scranning on pizza and talking about the impact that technological advancements will have on the world, it’s a just time-management with a gimmicky name.

The two-pizza rule isn’t the only example of Bezos’ unique approach to running his company either, with the CEO also implementing an ‘unusual’ meeting technique to make sure every employee is pulling their weight.

He’s also been known to fire off some pretty strange questions in interviews as well, with one employee recalling how she was hired after just two questions.

The musician documented his 29-hour encounter with a screaming baby

Viewers are split after seeing a video of a passenger recording his experience on a mega long-haul flight with a screaming baby.

It goes exactly how you’d think…

Hearing a baby wailing and screeching is the last way you’d want to spend a flight, while you’re on your travels to an exciting destination. But sadly, this TikToker was stuck in an enclosed metal tube with the crying baby for a jaw-dropping 29 hours.

He was on a trip from New Zealand to Berlin, Germany, and he wasn’t particularly thrilled when he heard of the youthful passenger for the first time.

In the viral video, which was originally posted in 2022, the Kiwi content creator showed you exactly why you made a mistake wearing headphones.

Henry Beasley is a musician part of a band called Balu Brigada, and posted the 26-second clip on their joint social media account.

Documenting his experience on the long-haul flight, he quickly realised that the trip wouldn’t be an enjoyable one.

Sat a few rows back was an unsettled child, who wasn’t afraid of letting everyone know that they were not having a good time.

It would be impossible for anyone to get some shut-eye on the flight, as the baby was probably trying to audition for his band, showing off their impressive vocal range.

Henry wrote below the video: “Rate my 29 hour flight to Berlin. The kid’s got some lungs. Great projection.”

In the video, the musician’s eye can be seen twitching non-stop throughout his long-haul journey, with the artist poking fun at the situation by recording a ‘nice long’ scream, just for us.

Concluding the video while looking exhausted with his eyes barely open, he said: “Stellar performance, incredible stamina. 10/10.”

Viewers then took to the comments to share what they thought of the vocal passenger, as one user said: “And people have the audacity to ask me why I don’t want kids.”

A second pointed out: “And people have the audacity to ask me why I don’t want kids.”

While a third user wrote: “They shouldn’t let kids on flights longer then four hours.”

Another shared: “The way my anger issues would get me kicked out of a flying plane…”

But there were some viewers that stuck up for the youngling, with one writing: “Put your headphones on and be grateful that it isn’t you.”

A different user agreed, saying: “It’s called noise canceling headphones. Get some.”

Should kids be allowed on flights? I guess it depends on who you ask.

YouTuber gradually 'replaces himself' with AI for one month to see if anyone would notice

YouTuber gradually 'replaces himself' with AI for one month to see if anyone would notice

YouTuber Sambuca progressively integrates AI throughout his latest upload and hoped no one would notice

A YouTuber who gradually ‘replaced himself’ with artificial intelligence for an entire month has challenged viewers to see if they had noticed.

In a recent video, content creator Sambucha said that ‘nobody will notice’ how he progressively integrated AI throughout his channel.

To his 9.2 million subscribers, he explained: “So it’s basically going to be a litmus test for how much we can get away with, until my audience notices that I’m replacing myself with AI.”

Below is his eight step process:

Step 1 – Create an idea with AI

He started off small (YouTube/Sambucha)

He started off small (YouTube/Sambucha)

Trailer for detective drama Stephen King called one of his ‘all time favourites’
Sambucha heads on to ChatGPT to ask it to create some short video ideas for him.

“Can you please come up with a 62nd short idea for YouTube, similar to the channel Sambucha, who posts fun, entertainment and educational content, sometimes reaction and some random stuff,” is what his prompt was.

“You know what? That’s actually a decent short idea. So I will make a short on the most rigged games in the world. I wonder if people will think that that’s AI generated?” the influencer said.

The video itself is a 9:16 clip with the top half showing clips of games, and the bottom being a shot of Sambucha, who is narrating the clip.

Result – nobody noticed

Step 2 – Replace a thumbnail with AI

He ramped things up slightly (YouTube/Sambucha)

“But let’s move on to stage two now and get a bit more AI. And this time it’s going to be a lot more obvious, because I will be literally replacing one of my thumbnails on a long form video with an AI generated thumbnail,” he said.

Sambucha selected one of his videos that ‘has literally gotten only one view in the last 24 hours, put it into the hands of basically a single person to see if they’ll call out that thumbnail’.

On his video titled ‘I almost fought Jonah Hill’, he generated an AI-based thumbnail, and guess what?

Result – nobody noticed

Step 3 – Post AI Instagram story

Instagram was next (YouTube/Sambucha)

Instagram was next (YouTube/Sambucha)

During this step, the content creator takes a selfie by using an AI filter on Snapchat and then uploads it to his Instagram story.

After sharing it on his story, he said only about five percent of people had some doubts with the image.

“Okay, we have one person who straight up, basically pointed out that this is fake,” Sambucha explained.

“He said, for real, thought that was real. You got plastic surgery. Oh, that’s kind of close. All right. So there’s a couple of people who got wind of the fact that this wasn’t a genuine picture, but it’s not enough for me to kind of stop this experiment.”

Result – only some people noticed

Step 4 – Use an AI voice in short

Now it was time for some AI audio (YouTube/Sambucha)

Now it was time for some AI audio (YouTube/Sambucha)

For step four, the YouTuber uses character.ai to replace his voice with AI in one of his shorts.

“So I posted ‘how quickly can you spend $100 billion’ and it’s already at a million views in about eight hours,” the content creator said.

“So this is a high performing short, and we’re going to see now if anybody called out the fact that I used an AI voice at any point.

“1,200 comments, though. I have a feeling there’s going to be a couple comments here.”

You guessed it, no one realised.

Step 5 – Use AI in a short

“So I have a short here, ‘products that have never raised their prices’. So at the very end here, usually at the end of some of my shorts, I say, ‘pretty cool, right?’ And it’s just me saying it normally. But not only am I gonna have an AI voice say that line, but it’s also gonna be an AI generated avatar of me,” Sambucha said.

And the influencer thought he’d got away with it again until users on Reddit were starting to catch on.

“is Sam doing a deep fake slash AI challenge?” one person questioned.

Result – people are starting to notice

Step 6 – Make another YouTuber believe

Would you have sniffed this out? (YouTube/Sambucha)

Would you have sniffed this out? (YouTube/Sambucha)

During the next stage, he said he wanted to ‘fool another YouTuber’ that they’re actually talking to him, ‘but my entire response chain is gonna be done by AI’.

“So it’s not gonna be me actually talking to this person. It’s gonna be completely AI,” the social media start explained.

However, Sambucha wasn’t ever going to fool one of his mates with this one.

Result – his friend definitely noticed

Step 7 – Writing ‘this is AI’ in an actual short

Getting a little more obvious now, but still, no one clocked on (YouTube/Sambucha)

Getting a little more obvious now, but still, no one clocked on (YouTube/Sambucha)

In one of his videos, the YouTuber decided to write ‘this is AI’ on and off throughout the clip to see if anyone would notice.

“All right, I don’t think anybody is noticing that this has AI in it, even though I said it five or six times in the video. This is looking good for us,” he said.

Result – no one noticed

Step 8 – Use AI in long-form video

The big guns (YouTube/Sambucha)

The big guns (YouTube/Sambucha)

“So for this long integration, I’m gonna hide it within like the 35-minute mark, and it’s actually gonna be trash AI.

“So the video I’m gonna be putting it on is a video where I’m ranking every shorts YouTuber. It comes out on February 20, so that’ll be the release of it. And that video is about 42 minutes long, so I’m gonna bury like a 10 second section at like the 35 minute mark,” he explained.

Result – only ‘two’ out of 1,600 comments noticed

Everything we know as Chinese space mission finds beaches on Mars dating back 4,000,000,000 years

Findings from China’s Zhurong rover have led to scientists being able to find out about beaches on Mars from four billion years ago

Despite being Earth’s nearest planetary neighbour, Mars is a cold and desolate planet. But scientists think it wasn’t always like that.

And now, new data collated by China’s space missions have finally been looked into by researchers which give extra weight to the idea that Mars was once a very wet planet, full of water – and even beaches.

The China National Space Administration’s (CNSA) Zhurong rover, launched in 2020, was behind the initial data haul that has since been looked at by space boffins.

Landing on Mars four years ago, it has spent its time on the Red Planet studying the make up of Mars’ surface and searching for icy content under the surface, as well as collating samples of the atmosphere for readings.

First and foremost scientists have thought Mars had a vastly different look in its history for a long time.

Ever since NASA launched the Mariner 9 orbiter back in 1971, the spacecraft mapped 85 percent of Mars’ surface and indicated a history of oceans on its surface dating back billions of years.

Now, a new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has added to the evidence of Mars’ past oceans. That is after the discovery of buried beaches across the planet’s surface.

Dr Benjamin Cardenas, a co-author of the research from Penn State University, said: “Zhurong was sent to southern Utopia Planitia near locations where paleoshorelines have been mapped from satellite data.

“Typically the radar picks up on even subtle changes in sediment size, which is probably what’s happening here.”

Could a wet Mars have supported life? (Getty Stock Images)

The study adds: “Through radar data gathered by the Zhurong Rover, we identify extensive dipping deposits in the subsurface of southern Utopia Planitia.

“These deposits have structures similar to those of Earth’s coastal sediments.

“This finding implies the past existence of a large water body, supporting the hypothesis of a past ocean in the northern plains of Mars.”

The research suggests that the Martian beaches have actually moved over time, with a major indication that the sands grew out into the ocean by at least 1.3 kilometres.

“It’s a simple structure, but it tells you there had to be tides, there had to be waves, there had to be a nearby river supplying sediment, and all these things had to be active for some extended period of time,” Cardenas said.

The beaches themselves go back four billion years or so.

And you might be thinking ‘so what?’. But it could help humanity in the ongoing search for extraterrestrial lifeforms – past or present.

“Mars expresses Earth-like geological features, seasonal cycles, and day–night rhythm making it a unique analog to the evolution of the Earth and informing the search for extraterrestrial life,” researchers said.

“Although the surface of present-day Mars is cold and dry, geological features such as valley networks, open – and closed-basin lakes, deltas, alluvial fans, pitted-cones, and sedimentary rocks support the prior existence of vast amounts of liquid water.”

The school is known for embracing creativity

Throwing rolls of toilet down the stairs, setting off stink bombs, or colouring in the corners of the desk – the classic ‘pranks’ you might have played at school.

I mean, let’s be honest, when it came to doodling, most of us were culprits of ‘vandalism’ of our schoolbooks or tables.

But it’s unlikely you ever went as far to doodle something that can be seen from this high up in the sky.

Well, one school in Germant seems to have been the victim of a much weirder, bigger, ahem, penis-shaped problem.

The Waldorf School in the Kreuzberg district in Berlin, Germany, reportedly had a whopping 20 metre-long, well, whopper, painted on top of its roof. And it was so big it was apparently visible on Google Maps.

The painting was picked up on Google Maps. (Google)

The painting was picked up on Google Maps. (Google)

The German outlet Bild reported it had been painted on the flat roof with white paint.

However, it’s not known who the culprit of this phallic painting was.

“Who is behind it – maybe street artists? Or were they students who still laugh at embarrassing ‘d**k jokes’?”, the outlet has asked.

They’ve had their ‘art’ viewed far and wide, although as those in nearby high-rises could see it, let alone people searching it on Maps.

It’s reported this appeared sometime between March and July 2022 and has since been somewhat covered up as the school authorities. But even with the edges painted over, it’s said it’s mega length and prominence can’t be ignored.

Either way, the creator of the penis has done a pretty good job of embracing the image of the Waldorf School which says it ‘offers young people space to develop their creativity’.

With various locations, the Berlin school offers the unique Waldorf Education, based on the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner.

The Berlin school ended up with quite the decoration. (Google)

The first school opened up back in 1919, with Waldorf teaching known for blending artistic and physical activities with academics.

It’s pretty holistic, with certain pupils there often dabbling in art – but it’s unlikely painting knobs on the roof is encouraged in the unique education.

With stats previously showing that the average size of an erect penis is 5.63 inches in 2024, this huge painting in Berlin is about 138.5 times the size of what most British lads are apparently packing.

Dr Chun Tang, medical director at Pall Mall Medical, spoke to Metro to explain the changes to the male anatomy across the world.

“Over long periods, human anatomy can change due to evolutionary pressures,” he revealed.

“For instance, traits perceived as advantageous for reproduction or sexual selection might become more prevalent.”

Now that’s a big doodle.

The piece of art was part of an exhibition back in 2019

Shocking CCTV footage shows the moment thieves ran off with a toilet from Blenheim Palace.

And you might be thinking, why bother stealing the bog from such a place when there’s surely better options? Well, this wasn’t just any toilet – it was a £4.75 million gold toilet.

Shown to jurors, the footage sees two cars tear across the lawn towards the palace in the early hours of 14 September 2019.

Three men then made their way inside the historical house in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, before reappearing five minutes later, rolling the 18-carat-gold toilet away. And weighing in at a whopping 98kg, it caused the blue VW Golf’s car suspension to sag.

Fully functioning, the piece of art loo was insured for $6 million (£4.75 million) and entitled America.

Created by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, it had been installed as an artwork at the country house Winston Churchill was born.

In the CCTV, one of the group can be seen clutching the golden toilet seat, which also got thrown into the back of their escape vehicle.

Once a star attraction in the exhibition, it is believed the golden bog was broken up after it was stolen.

Before the raid took place, the Duke of Marlborough’s half-brother, Edward Spencer-Churchill, said the toilet wouldn’t be ‘the easiest thing to nick’.

Mr Spencer-Churchill told the Times: “Firstly, it’s plumbed in and secondly, a potential thief will have no idea who last used the toilet or what they ate.

“So no, I don’t plan to be guarding it.”

Critics had described the artwork as a pointed satire against the excesses of wealth.

As the two cars sped away from the scene, palace security guards who had been watching on CCTV chased them on foot.

Michael Jones, 39, pleaded not guilty in January to stealing artwork in an overnight raid in the early hours of September 14, 2019. And Frederick Sines, 36, also known as Frederick Doe, and Bora Guccuk, 41, each deny one count of conspiracy to transfer criminal property.

It is alleged those two agreed to help another man who is said to have carried out the burglary, a defendant called James Sheen, to sell some of the gold in the following weeks.

Jurors were told thieves had driven through locked wooden gates into the Palace grounds before breaking in through a window.

“They knew precisely where to go, broke down the wooden door to the cubicle where the toilet was fully plumbed in, removed it, leaving water pouring out of the pipes, and drove away,” prosecutor Julian Christopher KC said previously.

“Clearly such an audacious raid would not have been possible without lots of preparation.”

And within days of that raid, two men were using the codeword ‘car’ and allegedly made contact with a Hatton Garden jeweller.

With the trial continuing, the court also heard how Jones had made ‘two reconnaissance visits’ to the palace.

The 21-year-old couldn’t believe what happened to her car after leaving it at the garage for a weekend

A woman was left with a nasty surprise after sending her car in to be fixed at the garage.

It’s every car owner’s worst nightmare, but many wouldn’t expect their mechanic to take their vehicle out for a joyride after leaving it at the garage. But unfortunately for Australian Megan Bolton, she and her Ford Focus RS fell victim to exactly that.

The 21-year-old’s dream car was what she worked towards for some time, even taking a loan out to be able to afford it.

So when the sporty hatchback needed a temperature sensor fixed, Megan brought it in to a nearby garage to get the new part put in.

When she was told by a mechanic on the Friday that the part needed ‘wasn’t going to be coming in for quite some days’, she left the car there over the weekend, looking to collect it on the following Monday.

Speaking about the car more, Megan revealed: “I’ve always wanted a car like this before and when it came up, it was the first thing I wanted. I do everything for it, I barely drive it, I garage it, I look after it. I spend all my spare money on it.”

The limited edition Ford Focus was meant to be in the care of the mechanic, but the owner was horrified when she checked the dashcam footage after getting her beloved car back.

It turned out that the mechanic took the car out for a few joyrides, completely irking Megan.

“It’s a disrespect to the vehicle and myself you know it’s not yours to just play around and have fun with. You’ve got no reason to even be doing that on a test drive,” she claimed.

Megan further claimed that he told her that it was okay to leave the car at the garage, as it could have broken down again if she drove it home due to overheating.

Speaking about the footage, she explained: “He took it home, he left it parked in his driveway overnight, which is something that I don’t even do. He took it through a McDonald’s drive-through with his kid in the car. He went to a 7-Eleven.”

As well as this, the dashcam clocked the car doing 71 km/h in a 60 km/h zone, even hitting 93 km/h in a back street.

Simply saying it was ‘not okay’, it was clear that Megan was shaken up by the events, adding: “I was crying for days, that is my pride and joy and he just absolutely mistreated it.”

The news team at A Current Affair approached the mechanic in question, Ross Wye, who was working on a red Ferrari at Euro Prestige – Prestige Performance.

After being accused of taking the car out himself and leaving it parked outside, he claimed it was okay, saying: “It was explained that if we drove it during the day she had to pay the hours for the car to be driven, whereas if I drove it home then drove it back to work the next day, she didn’t have to pay for our labour.”

Megan claimed that she was only told that the part would take time to arrive.

The news reporter showed the mechanic the dashcam footage of him speeding, to which he responded: “That’s going by an uncalibrated GPS.”

He added that the drive through McDonald’s was okay as he was on his way to work, even though the reporter reiterated that it’s not his car to drive.

Looking closer at the footage, he even asked: “Is that even me driving?”

Ross added: “I don’t believe so, I don’t know. I’m not the only person here, there’s five of us here,” to which the reporter said: “So you’re all taking it for a spin?”

After she pointed out that he took it cause ‘it’s a cool car’, he pointed out that they ‘work on Ferraris, Porches, Lamborghinis’.

Megan concluded: “I thought I trusted him, I really did. I felt absolutely betrayed to leave my car in the trust of someone and a company and for him to go and make it his own and drive it the way he did. I don’t even drive it like that.”

Branded as a ‘he said, she said’ story by the news team, the mechanic then apologised for the ‘misunderstanding’.

The first look at Shrek 5 is here and fans are raging

The first look at Shrek 5 is here and to say it is a disappointing first look is the understatement of the century.

The whole gang is coming back to Never, Never, After, but the characters have all received redesigns, with Zendaya confirmed to be joining the cast alongside a returning Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy.

The teaser was posted to social media and sees the family using the mirror mirror in the wall… as a phone to scroll through TikTok.

Check out the teaser below and see the horrifying redesign of the characters firsthand.

The teaser confirmed the fact that the film will come out in Christmas of 2026.

While Antonio Banderas has recently returned to the character of Puss In Boots in the critically acclaimed Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, he was not confirmed in the teaser to be returning for the fifth film.

The teaser sees the characters, who have been redesigned in a way that takes them much closer to the typical Dreamworks style and fans were less than pleased.

Dreamworks actually turned off comments on the teaser’s YouTube release, with fans on social media tearing into the design.

The film has brought back the franchise after 15 years, with Shrek: Forever After being the last entry into the franchise.

One fan replied on Twitter saying: “I feel we will owe Shrek the Third a big ass apology after this.”

Another posted a picture of the characters saying: “WHAT THE HELL DID THEY DO TO THEM NO.”

Others simply posted pictures of Sonic the Hedgehog, but the version from the first trailers released for the live action film.

The backlash was so violent in the response to Sonic’s design that Paramount ended up changing the design.

Despite this, Shrek 5 appears to be full steam ahead, as they return to the world that spawned the now iconic trilogy (and the less talked about fourth film).

The return comes as Cameron Diaz returned to the world of acting after quitting Hollywood for nine years.

She said on her reason for returning to acting in the Netflix film Back In Action: “I thought that if I was going to come back and do a movie, the only person I’d come back and do it with would be this guy (Foxx).

“Seriously. I had other opportunities along the way and I was always saying: ‘No. I’m not doing it, I’ve told you… What? Jamie asked? Jamie? Oh, I can do a movie with Jamie!’”

Now she’s coming back as Fiona, Myers is back as Shrek, Eddie Murphy is back as Donkey, and we’re all praying that things come out better than this teaser appears to be.
