The search warrant gave more information on the circumstances of their death

Police have said in a new search warrant that Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa and dog were all found in separate rooms having been dead for ‘some time’.

The search warrant said Hackman was found in a ‘mudroom’, which is a room designed for ‘dirty or wet footwear and clothing’, while his wife Betsy was found in the bathroom.

No official cause of death has yet been given, however Hackman’s daughter spoke to TMZ and said that she, and her family, believed that a Carbon Monoxide leak was the cause of the deaths of Hackman and his wife.

Hackman, Arakawa, and their dog were shockingly found dead in their New Mexico home as per local paper the Santa Fe New Mexican.

The search warrant, which has been obtained by the Daily Mail states that the pair were ‘partially mummified’.

Arakawa was discovered ‘lying on the bathroom floor of the couple’s home’ reportedly with an open bottle of pills on a nearby countertop.

The pair were both found with ‘similar’ signs of mummification and decomposition.

While the couple’s two other dogs were reportedly found alive, their German Shepard was found dead ‘in a closet’ just off from the bathroom where Hackman’s wife was found.

According to Variety, authorities stated that there were no signs of foul play, though no cause of death was given.

The affidavit further states that their deaths are ‘suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation.’

It reads that the reporting party found the front door unlocked and opened, as well as a healthy dog running loose on the property, as well as another healthy dog near the deceased female dog.

They also stated that the heater was moved, suggesting that it ‘could have fallen in the event the female abruptly fell to the ground’.

The pair were found by two maintenance workers, who said they had not seen them for two weeks prior to their deaths.

After retirement the pair became reclusive, rarely being seen outside their $3.3 million mansion.

Hackman spoke about his reasons for retirement in a 2009 interview with Empire magazine.

He said: “The straw that broke the camel’s back was actually a stress test that I took in New York.

“The doctor advised me that my heart wasn’t in the kind of shape that I should be putting it under any stress.”

The pair’s death came as a shock to the entertainment world, leading to various tributes pouring in for the pair.

Antonio Banderas posted to X saying: “Very sad day for the cinema’s family.

“Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa have passed away. My deepest condolences to friends, family and cinema lovers. RIP.”

Prince William also paid tribute to Hackman, saying on Twitter: “So sad to hear the news of the death of Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy.

“Hackman was a true genius of film who brought each and every character to life with power, authenticity and star quality.”

Car insurance expert issues criminal record warning if you do 'fronting' hack to bring down cost

Thinking about ‘fronting’ your car insurance? You could end up with a criminal record

One industry expert has warned you could face a criminal record if you take part in ‘fronting’ you car insurance.

It is a payment no one likes to see leave their bank account every month, but that car insurance is essential if you want to drive on the open roads around the United Kingdom.

The direct debit also exists to protect you financially if you get in to a crash and have to make a claim on your own policy if it’s deemed to be your fault.

Annoyingly, though, it can be pretty expensive. Especially if you’re a newer driver heading to the UK roads in your first year or two of passing your test. As a new driver you’re deemed to be a higher risk when it comes to collisions and as such, your premiums are increased.

The cost of car insurance

Research this week from MoneySuperMarket said that premiums for teenage drivers, aged 17 to 19, sat at a whopping £2,218 for men.

It is a slightly better situation for women, with it lower than two grand at £1,965.

There are a good few ways to bring this down if it applies to you, such as fiddling around with the insurance policy’s voluntary excess or even exploring getting a black box fitted.

Don’t fancy that? You could always see what adding a named driver to your policy does to the price. And if you’ve the cash, paying upfront will always be cheaper than the monthly policy.

One thing you shouldn’t do though is a so-called hack known as ‘fronting’.

What is ‘fronting’ and why is it illegal?

The practice known as ‘fronting’ is when an experienced driver claims they are the primary driver of a car (or any other vehicle) relating to the insurance policy.

In reality this is not the case, with a younger and less experienced driver getting behind the wheel more often. As MoneySuperMarket says, this ‘is a serious form of insurance fraud that can have significant consequences’.

According to the money-saving platform, insurers will take the view that by ‘fronting’ a policy you are deliberately misleading them on the risks involved when they insure the vehicle to drive by lying about the main driver of the car in order to get a cheaper bill.

If caught fronting, your policy would be invalid and you risk a criminal record and even prison time depending on the seriousness of any individual case. You’ll also face being unable to get any form of insurance in the future – and we don’t just mean cars.

What has MoneySuperMarket said about this?

MoneySuperMarket’s car insurance expert, Alicia Hempsted, said: “With insurance costs for young drivers reaching astronomical levels, it’s understandable that parents are looking for ways they can cut costs and help their children get on the road.

“Unfortunately, what might seem like a harmless loophole to make premiums more affordable can have serious long term consequences.

“In many cases fronted policies are discovered during an insurer’s investigation after a claim has been made. That means parents are hit with a double blow of finding out they are liable for the full cost of the accident, and they could even end up with a criminal record.

“If you’re searching for insurance for a young driver, shop around to find the best deals and consider a telematics policy to help bring the cost down.”

Woman left stunned after discovering she had slept with her half-brother through text message

They’d been high school sweethearts

A woman was left gobsmacked after her ex-boyfriend told her she was his half-sister via text – yeah, savage.

Having recently gone through a bit of a family nightmare, Victoria Hill was filling in her high school sweetheart at a 20-year reunion.

But he noticed some similarities in the tale with his own family’s experienced.

When Hill’s mum, Maralee, was trying to conceive, she visited fertility doctor Burton Caldwell who ended up tricking her.

He’d said the sperm would come from an anonymous medical student – but it was actually his own. Hill told CNN she only discovered her dad wasn’t her biological father after taking a 23andMe test.

With Caldwell working with various families, the Connecticut woman is one of at least 23 people claiming they were conceived using his sperm.

I bet you can tell where this is going as Hill’s ex-boyfriend decided to take the same genetic test.

And the 40-year-old later received a text from him with the revelation: “You are my sister.”

‘Traumatised’ by this, she now looks at her ‘whole high school experience’ differently as this relation ‘tarnishes the whole thing’.

Hill told the Daily Mail the pair had been ‘inseparable’ and intimate for about a year and may have even ended up settling down together if they hadn’t gone off to college.

Unknowingly engaging in incest, it’s been tough to navigate for both of them as they now try and work out where they stand.

“We now have to figure out how to turn that love into a sibling sort of love; we’re both struggling with it,” Hill confessed as she admits she still grapples with the the ‘attraction that pulls us together.’

“It makes sense why we were so incredibly comfortable together and unconditional with each other, especially at a high school age,” Hill added. “I thought it was rare, but now I understand it’s because we share 24 percent of our DNA.”

Maralee is one of four patients suing Caldwell in two separate legal actions as they allege he used his own sperm to inseminate unknowing patients.

He faces numerous accusations including the likes of misconduct, fraud and inflicting emotional distress.

State Superior Court Judge Robin Wilson previously ordered Yale to participate by providing documents related to Caldwell from 1974 to 1984.

A Yale New Haven Health spokesperson told the Mail ‘there is no evidence’ of its ‘involvement in the conduct alleged against Dr. Caldwell’.

Lewis Hamilton has provided an epic response to claims that ‘everyone has a shelf life’ during testing for his new Formula One team Ferrari.

The British driver topped the timesheet for Ferrari in Bahrain on Thursday, marking an encouraging display on the second day of pre-season testing.

Hamilton, 40, a seven-time F1 world champion, ended his 12-year stint with former team Mercedes last year to join Ferrari for the 2025 season.

During his final season at Mercedes, team principal Toto Wolff seemed to suggest Hamilton was past his best after saying ‘everyone has a shelf life’.

Wolff later said the quote was taken out of context – and Hamilton brushed it off in November – but the Briton has appeared to respond again over five months later.

In a fresh interview with Time magazine on Thursday, Hamilton said: ‘Don’t ever compare me to anybody else.

‘I’m the first and only Black driver that’s ever been in this sport. I’m built different. I’ve been through a lot. I’ve had my own journey.

‘You can’t compare me to another 40-year-old, past or present, Formula 1 driver in history. Because they are nothing like me.

‘I’m hungry, driven, don’t have a wife and kids. I’m focused on one thing, and that’s winning. That’s my No. 1 priority.’

Meanwhile, speaking on the second day of pre-season testing, Hamilton said his first month at Ferrari ‘couldn’t have gone better’ ahead of the first race of 2025, which takes place in Australia from March 14 to March 16.

‘How you start is often very important,’ Hamilton added. ‘This past month couldn’t have gone any different and couldn’t have gone any better. Things along the way had to happen, [the crash in] Barcelona had to happen.

‘Every day has been significant and about building foundation. Whilst I mentioned we had to cram a lot in a small space of time, we haven’t rushed it.

‘Long days, but that’s what we’re here for. I think it will pay dividends going forwards. This will continuously be evolving and it’s felt seamless, felt easy in a sense of gelling with the team. I’ve not had to force it and I feel at home.’

Quizzed if Ferrari’s 2025 car concept felt better than the one he drove at Mercedes in 2024, Hamilton added: ‘I think it’s a bit early to say but I am really enjoying the car. We are slowly bonding I think!

‘Yesterday was a so-so day, it was just okay. But we got through all our run plans, we are testing a bunch of things.

‘I’m not doing set-up changes or directing where we want the car to go, whereas today was exploring a bit my interaction with my engineer. So far, I really enjoy driving this car.’

Prior to embarking on a career as a professional quizzer and appearing on the line-up of Eggheads, Hughes had worked as a train driver and a railway worker. His big break in the world of quizzing would come in the 1980s after he won BBC general knowledge shows Mastermind and International Mastermind in 1983.

Last words from pilot before world's deadliest aviation accident

The Pan Am pilot’s final words before the horrific collision were heard on radio recordings

On 27 March 1977, two planes collided at Los Rodeos airport in Tenerife in what would become the deadliest aviation accident in history.

There have been a few air crashes so far this year, doing absolutely no favours for travellers with a fear of flying…

The American Airlines flight that collided with an army helicopter in Washington DC made headlines last month, while a Delta Air Lines aircraft flipped upside down and caught fire upon landing in Canada last week.

But the reality of it is that aviation accidents happen, and they’ve been occurring for as long as air travel has existed.

The deadliest air accident in history though, happened in Tenerife in 1977.

It would culminate in two planes colliding with each other in the middle of a runway, killing 583 people.

Pan Am Flight 1736 was scheduled to take off from Las Palmas Gran Canaria Airport when a bomb was set off at the site, forcing the aircraft to reroute to the much smaller Los Rodeos Airport in Tenerife in the fear that a second may go off at any point.

Also having to be diverted to Tenerife was KLM 4805, which was in the same situation after making its way from Amsterdam.

They were among a number of other planes in the small airport that usually dealt with light aircrafts, featuring just one runway and minimal parking for Boeing 747s.

KLM’s captain, Jacob Veldhuyzen van Zanten, was a senior pilot that was becoming increasingly frustrated with the delays with the flight, as he needed to return to Amsterdam after Las Palmas.

They were getting close to exceeding flying time limits, and he could be heard saying: “I’ve seen postage stamps bigger than this place. Now we’re going to get some boxed in here, goddammit,” when seeing the airport.

As all the runways were blocked with aircraft, the main one was used as a taxiway, with planes taxiing to the far end to use the runway to take off.

The weather also started to worsen, with fog setting in, but there was good news – Las Palmas airport had reopened and planes were being directed one by one.

The KLM captain took the decision to refuel, holding up the Pan Am airplane behind it.

As soon as it was done, the plane moved as quickly as possible, as Captain van Zante was set on leaving ASAP, despite the poor visibility.

After mistakenly believing they had been given clearance to take off, van Zanten sent the KLM hurtling down the runway and straight into the Pan Am plane, which hadn’t finished taxiing off the runway.

Pan Am pilot Victor Grubbs, could be heard saying before impact: “There he is… look at him. Goddamn that son-of-a-b***h is coming!”

Turning sharply to try and steer clear of the oncoming plane, first officer Robert Bragg exclaimed: “Get off! Get off! Get off.”

The KLM flight barrelled into the Pan Am craft, taking most of the roof off it, with the KLM plane flying into the air and slamming into the ground in a huge ball of fire.

In total, 583 people perished, with just 61 people surviving from the Pan Am flight.

The investigation into the incident looked into the conversation logs between the planes and the control tower.

It was found that the main cause of the accident was the KLM captain taking off without clearance, something he was warned about by crew.

It was then argued that the decision to take on extra fuel delayed takeoff and allowed the fog to set in more, and that the weight of it slowed the plane down during takeoff.

The fuel also caused the fire to be much bigger than it would have been.

As a result, international airline regulations were changed forever, with flight crew and air traffic controllers required to use standardised English phrases and to make decisions by mutual agreement.

Crew resource management was also improved, allowing pilots to challenge the captain with less hassle.

Gabby Petito’s dad responds to her lookalike’s emotional viral post that left viewers ‘in tears’

Gabby Petito is currently the subject of a Netflix documentary

Gabby Petito’s father has left people in tears after responding to a post from a woman who closely resembles his late daughter.

The heartbreaking case of Gabby Petito is back in the news again following the release of Netflix’s three-part series American Murder: Gabby Petito which follows the final days of the aspiring vlogger.

Petito had been travelling on a road-trip alongside her fiancé Brian Laundrie through the US when she disappeared in September 2021.

Her body would later be recovered near local camping spot in Wyoming, with her death confirmed to be strangulation and blunt force trauma.

Laundrie would vanish on 13 September after becoming a suspect in her disappearance. His remains would be found a month later alongside a confession note stating that he’d killed Petito.

His cause of death was determined to be suicide.

Following the release of the series, US woman Raegan Humphrey took to TikTok and shared side-by-side images of herself and Petito as part of a trend where people share their famous lookalikes online.

“It’s an honour for your beautiful soul to be seen in me,” she added in the caption.

The post went viral due to Raegan’s close resemblance to the 22-year-old, with users all noting how similar the two women looked.

“I got so confused bc i thought both pics were gabby, you two are so stunning,” one user commented.

“Everyone really does have a doppelgänger,” a second added.

The post would even catch the attention of her parents Joe Petito and Nichole Schmidt. Joe’s response to the post didn’t go unnoticed either, with the 45-year-old writing: “Make the most of every day,” alongside a string of heart emojis.

“This is so true, I’m more than sorry for your loss and could never imagine what your going through, but I’m sure you’re making gabby proud,” Raegan replied.

Understandably, the tender reaction from Joe was an emotional one for many, with several commenters saying the interaction had left them ‘in tears’.

“Wow Joe Petito had me in tears. God Bless. He gave you great advice,” wrote one commenter, as a second noted that she was ‘beautiful’, adding: “Her dad commenting on this instantly set me into tears but dang girl you are beautiful just like her.”

“Joe commented and Nikki reposted, I’m crying,” a third user noted.

Might be the weirdest thing Trump has posted in a while

Donald Trump is used to posting… well, whatever he wants on social media, but his latest post about Gaza is more than a touch odd.

Earlier this month, Donald Trump stunned the world when he revealed that he plans to ‘own’ the Gaza strip.

While this seemed to come a bit out of left field considering the ongoing conflict in the region, he added that his ownership would bring ‘stability’ to the area as well as other parts in the Middle East.

While joined by Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on February 4, Trump said: “The only reason the Palestinians want to go back to Gaza is they have no alternative, it’s right now a demolition site. This is just a demolition site. Virtually every building is down.”

Trump's AI video is as weird as you might expect (Donald Trump)

Trump’s AI video is as weird as you might expect (Donald Trump)

Yeah… not entirely confident Trump understands the complexities of the politics, or the history in the region.

However, the president continued to make assertions about how much better the US would make this part of the Middle East.

He continued: “The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will do a job with it, too.

“We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site.

“If it’s necessary, we’ll do that, we’re going to take over that piece, we’re going to develop it, create thousands and thousands of jobs, and it’ll be something that the entire Middle East can be very proud of.”

Taking to his social media platform, Truth Social, on February 26, Trump gave his followers a look into what this vision could look like… using the power of artificial intelligence, oh goodie.

The visuals are about as weird as you might expect. It shows golden statues of Trump and a golden Trump balloon, and just a whole lot of gold, as well as bearded belly dancers and a Elon Musk lookalike walking as dollar bills fall from the sky.

The AI video comes with an embarrassingly awful pro-Trump song to match the bizarre visuals.

And in case you can’t bring yourself to unmute the video, here are the lyrics.

“Donald Trump is coming to set you free, bringing the light for all to see.

“No more tunnels, no more fear, Trump Gaza is finally here.

“Trump Gaza shining bright, golden future, a brand new light.

“Feast and dance the deal is done, Trump Gaza number one.

“Trump Gaza shining bright…” you get the point.

Many social media users remained dubious of the explanation, however, rather than something being wrong with Trump's health, some suggested the bruise may simply be a sign of Trump's age. The doctor also theorized how someone of Trump's age is more likely to develop osteoarthritis. Healthline explains: "Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint condition that causes inflammation, stiffness, and pain in the joints. "It’s the most common type of arthritis, affecting nearly 32.5 million people in the United States." Doctor speaks out with worrying theory after large bruise spotted on Trump’s hand sparks health speculation

The White House released a statement addressing Donald Trump’s health after speculation arose online about a bruise on his hand

US President Donald Trump was spotted with a bruise on his hand, leaving people concerned, and while the White House has addressed the worry, a doctor has weighed in with their own theory too.

On Monday (February 24), 47th President of the United States Donald Trump met with French President Emmanuel Macron. The pair went on to have an awkward exchange and hand shake.

During the meeting, eagle-eyed viewers were quick to spot a bruise on Trump’s hand, taking to social media to question what it could mean.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt later offered up an explanation as people began to speculate what could’ve caused the bruising, and whether Trump has a health issue.

She said: “President Trump is a man of the people and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other president in history.

“His commitment is unwavering and he proves that every single day.”

In a follow-up statement, she reiterated her point, stating: “President Trump has bruises on his hand because he’s constantly working and shaking hands all day every day.”

Many social media users remained dubious of the explanation, however, rather than something being wrong with Trump’s health, some suggested the bruise may simply be a sign of Trump’s age.

Not even a simple text message is safe from the Gen Z-Millennial divide

You may not realise but everything from the way you dress to the social media apps you frequent are subtle giveaways for the year you were born.

As the two most chronically online generations, the distinctions are most visible between Gen Z and Millennials — with everything from the jeans we wear to the emojis we use being assigned as one of the two generational groups.

And it would seem like there’s a new giveaway to deduce whether a person’s year of birth starts with a one or two… the way in which you text.

Taking to TikTok, 27-year-old US woman Libby (@Libbyinboston) shared an image of a text she’d received from a man she’d recently been on a date with and asked for opinions on the quality of his response.

The text wasn’t anything particularly explosive or shocking, with the mystery man simply writing: “Hey, had fun last night. Have a good day.”

However Libby wasn’t too impressed with the message and shared a screenshot alongside asking followers if her date was a bad texter or just simply a man in his mid-30s.

Libby was deliberately vague when it came to what exactly had left her so unimpressed with the message, prompting plenty of debate in the comments.

“My bf is 38 n txts me as if it’s an email like spacing between texts I’m like can you not haha,” one commenter revealed, suggesting that formal text messages, full-stops and all, become more appealing as you age.

“LIKE WHY ARE THEY LIKE THIS,” a second person questioned, as a third added: “If he texts like he’s messaging his boss on teams you’re the one.”

However not everyone saw a problem with the business-casual approach to messaging, with some viewers suggesting Libby base her judgement after exchanging multiple texts to ‘see to how the conversation goes’.

“Listen, millennials have been thru it. We state facts because exclamation points scare us,” a second added.

Libby isn’t the only person to notice the difference between how Gen Z and Millennials text, with formal and complete sentences being favoured by the latter while the former prefer to express their feelings though a combination of slang, emojis and exclamation marks.

And it seems the constant ribbing is starting to make the older generation feel self conscious about their polite texting manner and adherence to grammar rules, as numerous commenters were seeking advice on how to loosen up over message.

“For us 35+ can you advise how to colour it up??? Emojis and exclamations,” one person asked, while a second user added that they were ‘painfully aware of it’.
