The Poor Things actor is considered to be an alien in her new movie, Bugonia

Emma Stone has faced plenty of supernatural experiences through her roles in movies like Spider-Man and Zombieland, but during a recent interview she revealed her belief in otherworldly beings goes beyond the big screen.

The actor shared her thoughts during an interview at Venice Film Festival, where she spoke to reporters about her latest sci-fi-comedy movieBugonia.

The movie follows two men who are obsessed with conspiracies, who become convinced that the CEO of a major company – played by Stone – is actually an alien who wants to destroy Earth.

Looking to bring her down, the men, played by Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis, then proceed to kidnap the boss.

Naturally, this plot led some reporters at Venice on to the topic of aliens, and Stone decided to share her thoughts loud and clear.

“Yes, I’m coming out and saying it,” she said “I believe in aliens!”

Stone explained her reasoning, telling the crowd that she’d been inspired by astronomer Carl Sagan, who is known for his research on the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

The La La Land actor said: “One of my favorite people who has ever lived is Carl Sagan and I fell madly in love with his philosophy, science and how brilliant he is.”

Stone indicated she shared in Sagan’s stance on aliens, pointing out that to believe that our world is the only one with life is pretty big-headed of us.

She said: “He very deeply believed the idea that we’re alone in this vast expansive universe – not that we’re being watched – is a pretty narcissistic thing.”

One reporter also jokingly asked Stone how she manages to live in the spotlight as a celebrity without ‘turning into an alien’ herself, to which the 34-year-old took a leaf out of Bugonia’s book.

“How do you know I’m not an alien?” she responded.

Stone continued: “I think there’s a tricky aspect to that answer that’s probably longer than anything that anyone would want to listen to right now. I think everyone sort of deals with that now.

“We all can relate to that feeling of someone thinking they know you, feeling like you don’t have much control of the avatar outside of me. Because there’s me, and then there’s me, here. There’s the person who comes here and then there’s the person who I am with my friends and family. They’re the same person, but it’s what I do to keep myself sane.”

Woman who died for 24 minutes before being brought back to life details exactly how it felt

The woman briefly died after suffering a cardiac arrest

A woman who died for 24 minutes has shared what it was like.

Lots of people have shared how they’ve died and come back to life, often with the help of modern-day technology.

This time 100 years ago, people commonly died of things like influenza, tuberculosis, and pneumonia, while the average age somebody lived to across the globe was early to mid-30s, says Statista.

This has since increased to a global average of 72 years old — something one woman almost didn’t make it to after dying for 24 minutes.

That person is Lauren Canaday, and she took to Reddit a couple of years ago to detail her near-death experience and opened the floor to any questions.

“I went into sudden cardiac arrest at home this past February,” Lauren penned. “My husband called 911 and started CPR. It took 24 minutes for EMTs to resuscitate me. After 9 days in the ICU, I was declared ‘cognitively intact’ and have no visible brain damage on MRIs.”

“I also have a normal EEG despite a history of seizures and status epilepticus for over 30 minutes right after resuscitation,” she added.

One inquisitive individual proceeded to ask her if she remembers anything from when she was ‘dead’ for 24 minutes.

“I was in a coma for 2 days and when I woke up I was very confused about being intubated and didn’t have any short term memory for several more days,” Lauren went on to reply.

“I never regained memory of the week prior or most of the time in ICU and am foggy on about a month prior. I remember only a feeling of extreme peace that I honestly seriously miss!”

Apparently, this peaceful feeling stayed with her for a few weeks upon waking.

Lauren added that while she was still in the hospital, she kept forgetting why she was there.

Another person asked Lauren if she had to ‘grapple with any guilt or confusion about surviving’ — and she said that she ‘100%’ did.

She penned: “Yep. 100%. So much guilt/confusion. And grief to deal with all the consequences. Ugh. My emotional state was exceptionally poor for a while. I would not have gotten through it without my husband’s support.”

Lauren explained that she had to take a break from work after her near-death ordeal and, at the time of writing, was having weekly therapy and going to support groups.

She added: “It helps to meet people through the newsletter I started. That helps me process things. I email a lot with my subscribers.”

How to Get Rid of Blackheads (Video Below)

Blackhead Treatment
If you get blackheads — a type of acne that happens when dead skin cells and oil clog your pores — you have plenty of methods to treat them. There are also ways to prevent new ones from forming. But remember: Picking, squeezing, and popping blackheads aren’t among your options. That approach could make your situation a lot worse. Try some of these treatments instead.

Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid is a popular over-the-counter ingredient in many skin cleansers. It breaks down dead skin cells and extra oil before they can clog your pores.

When you go to the pharmacy, check the ingredient labels carefully. You’ll find products with salicylic acid that range in strength from 0.5% to 5%. The acid can be harsh on some people’s skin. You might want to put it on every other day, rather than daily, to see how your skin reacts.

As for other acne-fighting ingredients, blackheads don’t contain bacteria, so benzoyl peroxide — a powerful antibacterial against most other forms of acne — may or may not help.

Retinoid creams and lotionsRetinoid creams and lotions, which are made from vitamin A, can unclog your pores. They also help your body make new skin cells.

You can buy some retinoids over the counter in drugstores, but you’ll need a prescription for most. Because retinoids make your skin more sensitive to UV rays, you should use these creams and lotions before bed and out of the sun.

Extraction

“Extraction” might sound scary, but many health professionals know how to remove unsightly blackheads with specialized tools.

You can find home extraction kits in stores. But most medical experts repeat that classic advice: “Don’t try this at home.” A DIY procedure can cause scarring, even if you think you know what you’re doing.

Chemical peels

A chemical peel is usually for people who want to improve the appearance of sun damage and minor scars, but it may help with certain types of acne. The procedure can unclog pores and start up new skin growth.

You get a chemical peel in your doctor’s office. It removes cells from the top layer of your skin.

Common ingredients in chemical peel products are salicylic, glycolic, and retinoic acids. Because the process uses acid, it can cause redness, crusting, scarring, infection, and skin discoloration.A skin brush can help get rid of the built-up debris that contributes to acne. It can also slow the signs of aging. You should always rehydrate your skin after using a skin brush.

There are many different skin brushes available to buy. Your dermatologist can tell you if using one may be right for you. They can also tell you what kind to use and how to use them correctly. If you don’t use them the way you should, it can make acne worse.

Noncomedogenic products

Most noncomedogenic products don’t contain any oil and don’t block your pores. That lowers your risk of getting blackheads.

You should be able to find cleansers, moisturizers, and makeup that are non-comedogenic.

To prevent blackheads, try tips such as:

  • Wash your face when you get up, before bed, and after you sweat.
  • Put non-abrasive cleaners on your skin gently, using your fingertips. Scrubbing with washcloths or sponges can irritate the skin.
  • Use alcohol-free skin products.
  • Avoid the sun since some acne medicines can make your skin more sensitive to UV rays.
  • Shampoo oily hair regularly.
  • Limit how many times you touch your face.
  • Change pillowcases often.

Also, some studies suggest certain foods can worsen acne. A few of the suspects are skim milk, chocolate, and carbohydrate-rich foods like bread and chips.

Certain treatments won’t work for blackheads. You should avoid oil-based and alcohol-based cleaners.

If you have oily skin, products that have these ingredients can irritate your skin.

If you have normal skin, moisturizers that contain some light oil should be fine. If you have dry skin, oil-based moisturizers may help.

Machine Gun Kelly claims he may be part alien after revealing his mother was ‘abducted’

“I just don’t know many facts about my life,” he told talkshow host Andy Cohen

Pop-punk artist Machine Gun Kelly believes he could have some alien blood in his genes.

While appearing on US talkshow Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last weekend, the 35-year-old (real name Colson Baker) began his surprising existential reflection after receiving a compliment from Cohen about his youthfulness.

“It’s a weird thing, dude. I don’t know if my age… I don’t know if it exists,” he stated.

Then came the UFO chat.

“I just don’t know many facts about my life. Like my skin, if it rips open, it heals really quick,” the musician revealed. “There’s just things where I’m starting to be like, ‘Who’s my dad?'”

Well, conventional wisdom says MGK‘s father was James Colson Baker. The musician was born in Houston, Texas to a pair of Christian missionaries and lived in far-flung countries like Egypt (learning Arabic before English), Kenya and Germany throughout his childhood, before traversing US states such as Denver and Ohio.

MGK previously told Interview magazine his dad was ‘extremely religious and extremely strict, and wouldn’t even let me hold my pen the way I wanted to hold my pen’.

Except now he seems to think James Colson Baker wasn’t his father, and he has genetic roots in outer space.

Asked by Cohen if he thought he might be from another planet, the talkshow guest answered: “Yeah, I’ve asked my mom, ‘Was there any period of time you went missing, like off the Earth? Was there ever like a tall slender creature?’

“She told me she felt like she got abducted at one point.”

People on social media were naturally confused, with one writing: “The next time someone asks me, my age I’m gonna straight up say I don’t know.

“My mama may or may not have had a affair with an extra terrestrial being. Beats saying you’re in your 30s good God.”

Another quipped: “He doesn’t have a birth certificate? That would help.”

In more Earth-bound news, the star apparently turned down the opportunity to audition for period vampire horror Sinners for one key reason.

MGK says his mother claimed to have felt like she was once abducted by aliens (Instagram/@machinegunkelly)

Released back in April to the tune of almost $366m (£271m) in global box office takings, the film is set in the year 1932 and orbits identical twins Smoke and Stack, who come home to Mississippi after building a reputation as ruthless members of the Chicago mob.

Their vision is to operate a brand-new juke joint (or music venue), but on opening night, their joy descends into hell as a pack of vampires show up.

In a July episode of The Pat McAfee Show, MGK explained that the film’s casting director expected him to recite a racial slur during his screen test, and that’s where he pulled the plug.

“Like Sinners, I was supposed to be in that,” he said. “The vampire, they had me set up to do the audition – it’s the one that’s in the house, so he’s the second vampire, the one that the guy comes and eats the family.”

MGK seemed to be referencing the KKK member eventually played on screen by Peter Dreimanis, who is turned by the Irish bloodsucker Remmick (Jack O’Connell).

“I wouldn’t [say the n-word],” noted MGK. “I have a lot of aspirations to be in movies, it just hasn’t panned out that way. It’ll align. The angels will put something in the works.”

To be fair to the guy, his Hollywood aspirations have been fulfilled on several occasions.

In 2018 he portrayed the character Felix in Netflix‘s super popular Bird Box, and two years later he was credited in both The King of Staten Island and Project Power – the latter starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Mother and stepfather charged with felony after 11-year-old girl was allegedly forced to give birth without a doctor

Mother and stepfather charged with felony after 11-year-old girl was allegedly forced to give birth without a doctor

Cherie Walker and Dustin Walker are facing criminal charges

A mother and father have been charged with felony child neglect after an 11-year-old girl gave birth at home.

Dustin Walker, 34, and Cherie Walker, 33, are accused of failing to provide supervision or medical care for their daughter after she had a baby earlier this month in Muskogee.

While court documents state the unidentified child was 36 weeks pregnant, Muskogee County Assistant District Attorney Janet Hutson told KOTV that the couple had no idea she was expecting when she gave birth on August 16.

Court documents reveal the 11-year-old had not received any prenatal care and had not been to a doctor or any form of medical professional for over a year.

The girl was taken to hospital after she gave birth at home.

Hutson told KOTV: “I was horror-stricken to find out it’s an 11-year-old little girl who’s given birth. And that she had no medical care, and she had no one to be with her.

“This child is traumatized. She’s been through a horrific ordeal. I mean, not only has somebody gotten her pregnant, but she gave birth at home without medical assistance, and this will be her life for the rest of her life.”

Huston went on to detail the potential home life of the girl and her siblings, with the attorney telling KOTV they may have been homeschooled rather than going through the traditional educational system.

The 11-year-old and her siblings have been removed from the home.

Michelle, the 11-year-old’s grandmother, say recent events have made ‘my daughter and my son-in-law a monster’, as she claimed no one in the family was aware of the pregnancy, as per KJRH.

The parents are currently being remanded in custody, as Huston added: “The guardians are currently in the Muskogee County Jail. They both have a $100,000 bond in place. Like I said, I do anticipate filing additional charges and amending that information shortly.”

They are set to appear in court on September 3.

As authorities await on a paternity test to see who the newborn’s father is, Hutson has reminded the general public on how to report suspected child neglect.

She told KOTV: “I want people to know that there are resources available to reach out to law enforcement, the Department of Human Services, or the district attorney’s office when you see something that may be abuse or neglect.”

If you’ve been affected by any of these issues or want to speak to someone in confidence regarding the welfare of a child, the Childhelp USA National Child Abuse Hotline (1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453) operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and receives calls from throughout the United States, Canada, US Virgin Islands, Guam and Puerto Rico.

Bear attack survivor wrote chilling final note to loved ones after picking up pieces of his own flesh

Jeremy Evans was attacked by a bear in Canada in 2017

A man who survived a bear attack wrote a chilling final note to his loved ones after finding pieces of his own flesh following the incident.

On August 24, 2017, Jeremy Evans ventured into the Alberta woods in Canada in an attempt to hunt a ram.

However, instead of finding a ram, the maintenance supervisor ended up running into a bear, and nearly lost his life.

As he was out hunting, Jeremy noticed ‘a little brown thing’ run right in front of him, ‘less than 10 feet away’. He quickly came to the realization it wasn’t a ram, but a grizzly bear cub.

Jeremy previously told UNILAD he reached down to try and grab his bear spray from his backpack, but before he could find it, the cub’s mother came into sight.

In a bid to scare the bear away, Jeremy threw his bicycle at her and struck her, ending up with some ‘pretty big holes’ in his hand.

The bear eased off briefly, but then ‘came charging back in a second time,’ and so Jeremy ran for his life, leaping into a tree.

But the mom bear ‘wrapped her paws around’ his right leg before he was able to get to a safe height.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Jeremy said: “My left eye was hanging out of the socket. It was facing down. In order to really see, I either had to lift up my eye or lean my head way back.

“I remember feeling my face and nothing felt the same. My jaw was hanging down on the left side and all my teeth were exposed.”

After the bear left the scene, Jeremy’s ravaged body dropped to the ground. He couldn’t see, his vision having been impaired by the attack, but he managed to crawl back through the woods and find his bag and gun.

Jeremy was left fighting for his life (Supplied)

The first things he came across were his moustache and goatee, a chunk of his face and his ear, ripped away entirely by the bear.

Jeremy was left convinced he wasn’t going to make it out of there alive, so pulled out his phone and wrote some final messages to his wife.

“Whoever finds this please let my wife know I tried to make it,” one message shared with UNILAD read. “But there is [no] chance, that bear really [f***ed] me up.”

In another text, Jeremy wrote: “I am pretty sure this is the end. I am very tired and I feel like I am going to pass out. If I do I won’t wake up.”

Following the attack, Jeremy has undergone five major surgeries and another 15 minor procedures, though it isn’t just the physical damage that has taken its toll.

He understandably developed PTSD, and has had years of therapy in a bid to overcome the horrid attack.

Prince Philip’s ‘comment’ after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding

Prince Philip’s ‘comment’ after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding

Prince Philip was known for his honesty, and according to a former royal insider, he delivered one of his most candid reactions yet following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in 2018.

In his upcoming memoir The Royal Butler: My Remarkable Life of Royal Service, Grant Harrold, who served as a royal butler for several years, recalled a moment from the late Duke of Edinburgh as the royal family filed out of St George’s Chapel, Windsor.

Prince Philip’s ‘comment’ after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding

Grant, who attended the ceremony, said the comment made him laugh, and possibly echoed the sentiments of other royals at the time.

“It was very funny,” he continued. “I think he was speaking for the majority of people, who were wondering what it was all about and when it was going to end. But he was the man who actually said it.”

The wedding took place on May 19, 2018. It deviated from traditional royal protocol in several ways, most notably with a sermon delivered by American Bishop Michael Curry.

“We could see everybody walking in and out and hear the whole service, including the animated and very lengthy sermon by the American bishop Michael Curry,” Harrold noted.

Harrold’s memoir also sheds light on some of the lighter, lesser-known details from the wedding day.

Guests reportedly received royal-themed picnic bags that included shortbread, bottled water, and a chocolate coin stamped with the couple’s image.

Despite Prince Philip’s quip, Grant emphasised the genuine joy on Prince Harry’s face.

“I was delighted to see Prince Harry so happy,” he said. “The crowds turned out in unbelievable numbers. The atmosphere was amazing.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Netflix deal

Since the wedding, Harry and Meghan have stepped back from royal duties and relocated to Montecito, California, where they’re raising their two children, Archie, six, and Lilibet, four.

The couple has faced ongoing scrutiny, particularly over allegations that Meghan “bullied” royal staff, claims she has denied, and over their frequent public comments about their time in the royal family.

Adding to royal worries, Meghan and Harry recently confirmed they’ll continue their Netflix partnership with a new multi-year deal.

A trailer for season two of Meghan’s cooking and lifestyle series With Love, Meghan dropped last week. Meanwhile, a holiday special is also in the works.

An insider told press the duke and duchess are “over the moon” with the renewed deal.

But Grant recently offered a note of caution.

“I do think they will start being more careful not to cause further upset as they move into their future business ventures,” Grant told The Mirror, speaking on behalf of OLBG. “If they cause any more damage with these programmes it will impact any on-going attempts to build bridges.”

While the Sussexes may be celebrating, the royal family may be bracing for what could come next.

Grant concluded: “Their biggest concern will be another tell-all documentary on their fallouts with the family.”

Rescuers abandoned efforts to save woman with broken leg stuck 22,000ft up mountain for at least 10 days

Russian mountaineer Natalia Nagovitsina, 47, has been stuck on Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan for at least ten days

A final effort to save a Russian woman trapped 22,965 feet up a mountain with a broken leg has been called off, according to reports.

Experienced mountaineer Natalia Nagovitsina, 47, has been stuck on Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan for at least 10 days, as temperatures have sunk to lows of -23C.

Victory Peak, also known as Jengish Chokusu or Pik Pobedy, is Kyrgyzstan’s highest mountain at 24,406 ft, and is located in the Tian Shan range, on the Kyrgyzstan–China border near Lake Issyk-Kul.

Drone footage from three days ago show Nagovitsina moving about on the rock, as a sleeping bag was delivered to her by Italian climber Luca Sinigaglia.

To help her ride out the weather, the 49-year-old brought her a tent, as well as food supplies, water and a gas cooker.

After bringing her the supplies, sadly Sinigaglia passed away from prolonged exposure to low oxygen and hypothermia.

“He carried out an act of great courage. He would never have left anyone behind, and especially not Natalia, with whom he had survived an experience that made them very close,” said Sinigaglia’s sister Patrizia, according to The Times.

His body was recovered from an ice cave where he was said to have collapsed from exhaustion.

“It was an action to be proud of that unfortunately did not allow him to return to us. But that was Luca,” Sinigaglia added.

Other attempts to rescue Nagovitsina, both via climbing and helicopter pursuit, have failed after defence ministry helicopter Mi-8 crashed, while another chopper was forced to fly back down due to the bad weather.

It comes after the latest search for the woman was called off, according to Dmitry Grekov, rescue leader and head of base camp.

Grekov said that mountaineer Vitaly Akimov – who was in charge of a team seeking to rescue Nagovitsina – had to abandon the mission because he was suffering from back pain after the helicopter crash.

The experienced climber has reportedly been trapped since she broke her leg (east2west)

When asked she is likely to be alive, Grekov replied: “I think not, because she has been there since 12 August – count how much time has passed.

“It is unrealistic. It is unrealistic to survive at such an altitude.”

It comes after the Russian Mountaineering Federation said a rescue mission would be a ‘miracle’.

Alexander Pyatnitsyn, the federation’s vice president, said: “It will be almost impossible to save her.

“There’s a three-kilometre-long ridge, and it takes at least 30 people in such a situation to rescue a person from there.”

Ghislaine Maxwell has reflected on her relationship with Epstein in a new interview

Ghislaine Maxwell offered up more information about Jeffrey Epstein and her employment under him in a new interview.

Maxwell currently remains in prison after being sentenced to 20 years in prison. She was found guilty in 2021 of luring teenage girls for disgraced financier and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Despite being in prison, she recently sat down with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche to speak about Epstein and the individuals he had interacted with.

Details of President Donald Trump’s and Epstein’s friendship remains a hot topic in his second term and has only increased since he called on his followers to stop talking about the financier and the alleged ‘Epstein files’.

This desire from Trump to move on from Epstein comes after the DOJ and FBI released a memo in July saying that they found no evidence Epstein was murdered or that he had a ‘client list’, referred to as the Epstein files.

Maxwell also said in her interview she never saw Trump do anything inappropriate or heard stories of inappropriate acts.

She also touched on the official ruling that Epstein killed himself, stating she doesn’t believe that to be the case.

During the interview, Maxwell also explained that while she was romantically involved with Epstein, the financial transactional nature of their relationship continued after they were no longer romantically involved.

She said as late as 2008 or 2009, Epstein paid her around $250,000 a year until he went to jail.

She said: “He had never stopped paying me.”

Maxwell did not start on this figure however and noted what she remembers being paid from the start of her employment under Epstein.

She said: “My memory is that I got paid $25,000 a year to begin with. That’s my memory, I may be wrong.”

She also went into greater detail about their romantic relationship and when she knew it was over.

“By 1999 our relationship had foundered. We stopped having sexual relations in 1999, not full sex.”

She said when he refused to visit her after the 9/11 attacks she knew their relationship was completely over.

She said ‘he wouldn’t see me at all’ on the day of the attacks on New York City despite only being a few blocks away.

She added: “And then I knew, as anyone did at that time, if you’re not going to be there for someone in 9/11, you’re never going to be there.”

12 Ways to Get Rid of Blackheads

Many over-the-counter skin care products target blackheads, including products containing salicylic acid. Certain practices, such as daily facial cleansing and removing makeup, may also help remove and prevent blackheads.

What you can do

Blackheads are one of the most common forms of acne. Although people who have oily skin are more vulnerable to blackheads, anyone can get them.

They form when pores become clogged with a combination of dead skin cells and excess oil (sebum) from your sebaceous glands.

Unlike whiteheads, which create closed pores, blackheads have open surfaces, which creates an oxidation that’s dark in color.

It may be tempting to try to pinch or push the black plug out, but this can cause unnecessary scarring and other damage to your skin.

“The good news is that there is a cornucopia of over-the-counter products that contain effective ingredients to exfoliate, soften, and even remove blackheads,” says Allison Britt Kimmins, MD, MPH.

Keep reading to learn how to:

1. Cleanse with salicylic acid

Instead of benzoyl peroxide, look for over-the-counter (OTC) products that contain salicylic acid.

Salicylic acid is the preferred ingredient for treating blackheads and whiteheads because it breaks down the materials that clog pores:

  • excess oil
  • dead skin cells

By choosing a daily cleanser with salicylic acid, you can remove these elements in addition to:

  • daily dirt
  • oil
  • makeup

Although you still need to wash your face twice a day, try using a cleanser that has salicylic acid in it just once a day to start. Britt Kimmins notes that salicylic acid is especially good for those with dry skin.

You may consider using it at night only and then using your regular cleanser in the morning. As your skin gets used to the product, you may choose to use it both morning and night.

Many people are sensitive to salicylic acid. You may not be able to use it more than once every few days. If you continue to react to it, discontinue use.

2. Gently exfoliate with AHAs and BHAs

In the past, you may have heard that exfoliating produces a negative effect on acne. This can be true for inflammatory acne, as the process can cause further redness and irritation.

For blackheads, though, regular exfoliation can help remove excessive amounts of dead skin cells that can lead to clogged pores. The process may also gently remove existing blackheads.

Rather than looking for harsh scrubs, you’ll want to focus on alpha and beta hydroxy acids (AHAs and BHAs). Glycolic acid is the most common type of AHA, and salicylic acid is a prominent BHA.

Both work by removing the top layer of your skin. In theory, this can improve the appearance of wrinkles and age spots, all while cleansing pores and making your skin softer.

You’ll find that BHAs are more widely available on the market, and in some cases, they’re more affordable too!

“Both AHAs and BHAs are excellent as superficial peels, says Britt Kimmins. “AHAs and BHAs …treat the superficial layer of skin and therefore are safe for OTC use in all skin types.”

3. Pick up a skin brush

A skin brush can provide similar exfoliating benefits as AHAs and BHAs by removing excess dead skin cells.

Susan Massick, MD, dermatologist and associate professor of dermatology at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center advises caution.

She recommends that skin brushes only be used occasionally with a gentle cleansing wash and to avoid the use of a brush altogether if you have sensitive skin.

Depending on your needs and budget, there are a variety of skin brushes available to be used with your daily cleanser.

4. Try topical retinoids

Retinoids may be useful for stubborn cases of acne by helping to unplug pores. This process can also make other OTC products more effective by helping them to be better able to enter the follicle.

But if you’ve got dry skin, Britt Kimmins recommends avoiding strong exfoliants, like retinoids, altogether.

5. Use a clay mask

Clay masks help to draw oils and toxins out of the skin, which helps to unclog pores, says Britt Kimmins. Clay masks are often considered must-haves for oily skin.

Some clay masks also contain sulfur. Sulfur is another ingredient that works to break down the dead skin cells that make up blackheads.

No matter which mask you choose, you can use it once a week in addition to your once- or twice-weekly exfoliating treatment.

7. Consider a chemical peel

Chemical peels are traditionally used for anti-aging benefits, such as reduced age spots and fine lines. The peels often contain AHAs or BHAs, and they work by exfoliating the skin, says Massick.

In theory, smoother, refreshed-looking skin should be revealed after going through the process.

Though they’re not considered a primary treatment for blackheads, chemical peels can possibly remove dead skin cells and shrink enlarged pores.

This treatment method may be especially helpful if you’re looking for anti-aging benefits too.

8. Make sure you’re using noncomedogenic products

The right cleanser, mask, and exfoliator may do little good if you don’t use noncomedogenic makeup and face products. In fact, Massick recommends starting off a blackhead removal regimen with noncomedogenic products.

Noncomedogenic means that the product in question won’t cause comedones, or clogged pores. Not all products are noncomedogenic, so you’ll have to read labels carefully.

9. Don’t sleep in your makeup

At the end of a long day, the last thing you may want to do is to take off your makeup.

However, sleeping with your makeup on is asking for more blackheads. If left on overnight, even noncomedogenic makeup can clog your pores.

Those with oily skin may want to consider using a foaming cleanser, says Britt Kimmins. Makeup removers can also be used before washing your face for extra cleansing power.

10. Avoid pore strips and other home extraction methods

You’ve already learned that picking, scratching, and popping any form of acne is considered off-limits. Still, it can be tempting to locate some form of extraction to get rid of those pesky blackheads.

In recent years, there’s been an uptick in masks, pore strips, and extraction tools that promise clean pores.

Although pore strips and masks may help remove junk from your pores, they can also remove elements that actually help your skin. This includes natural oils and hair follicles. Removing all of these elements can cause your skin to dry out and become irritated.

When irritation occurs, your sebaceous glands may go into survival mode and produce even more oil — resulting in more blackheads.

Other extraction methods include professional-grade metal or plastic tools. These purportedly work by removing clogged blackheads without scratching your skin. The keyword here though, is professional.

Dermatologists who have years of training sometimes use these tools. When placed into hands with limited experience, extraction tools can turn into a source for scratches, wounds, and even scars.

11. Don’t waste your time on benzoyl peroxide

When it comes to over-the-counter (OTC) acne spot treatments, you’re likely to find that many products contain benzoyl peroxide. The problem is, benzoyl peroxide doesn’t work for all types of acne.

Benzoyl peroxide works by reducing swelling, which a key marker of inflammatory acne, which includes cysts and pustules. It can also get rid of underlying bacteria in a pimple.

However, blackheads aren’t considered inflammatory. Also, they are not caused by bacteria, so products featuring benzoyl peroxide won’t do much good.

12. See your dermatologist for professional extraction

Any new acne regimen, including one for blackheads, can take anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks to take effect.

If you continue to see new and preexisting blackheads after this time, you may need to make an appointment with your dermatologist. They can use professional tools to extract blackheads. The Healthline FindCare tool can provide options in your area if you don’t already have a dermatologist.

They may even recommend a series of dermabrasion treatments or prescription retinoids to prevent blackheads from coming back.
