FTD is a rare type of dementia that affects the frontal lobes at the front and the temporal lobes around the sides of the brain, which impacts a person’s language ability and behavior.

Willis now lives in a bungalow away from his former Brentwood Park residence in Los Angeles, with a full-time care team there to assist him.

“Bruce would want that for our daughters. He would want them to be in a home that was more tailored to their needs, not his needs,” Emma told ABC News.

However, the decision faced some criticism from social media users, leading Heming Willis to address it by saying that she knew that there would be ‘two camps’ of ‘people with an opinion versus people with an actual experience’.

Now, Willis’ ex-wife Moore, who shares three adult children with the Pulp Fiction star – 37-year-old Rumer, 34-year-old Scout and 31-year-old Tallulah, has given her support to Emma’s decisions to help the actor.

Emma appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s podcast, The Oprah Podcast, to chat about her new book, titled The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path, as a guide for care partners navigating dementia.

Oprah told the model that Moore had made an appearance herself recently, where they asked her for her thoughts on the situation, which they then played to Heming Willis.

“There is no road map for how to deal with this, and obviously being the ex-wife even though our family is very connected is an interesting position, and so much fell on Emma to really figure this whole thing out,” The Substance star said.

“And the most beautiful thing, and she talks about this in the book, was recognizing the importance for caregivers that they have to take care of themselves, and that if they don’t put that time into making sure that they’re okay that they then can’t show up for anyone else.”

Moore continued: “I have so much compassion for Emma in this, being a young woman. There’s no way that anybody could have anticipated, you know, where this was going to go – and I really think she’s done a masterful job.

“She has been so dedicated to, you know, forging the right path. She’s had, you know, equal amounts of fear and strength and courage in navigating this.

“I think that this book is going to really be very helpful for a lot of people who are walking through this.”

Adam Canales Jr. from Texas has been convicted following the death of his two-month-old daughter, Athena Brigida-Kay Canales, in July 2021.

Prosecutors argued the father has administered the infant with a dose of Benadryl that led to the girl’s death in a bid to gain some ‘quality time’ with his wife, Sarah Canales, who also faces manslaughter charges.

District Attorney Sunshine Stanek argued that the father ‘made a habit’ of giving his children over-the-counter, sleep-inducing allergy medicine when the parents were tired and wanted ‘adult time’.

Stanek slammed his actions as ‘selfish and reckless,’ according to the Lubbock-Avalanche Journal.

“This defendant was so selfish and reckless in his actions that he caused the death of Athena,” she said, adding: “They made a habit of giving their kids, including Athena, medicine to make them sleep. When they were tired and just wanted adult time to themselves — they dosed her.”

However, Canales’ attorney Kristopher Mincey argued that the death was accidental, adding that a lot had been going on in their Idalou home, near Lubbock, while raising six children.

Mincey also said Canales and his wife had failed to communicate that day that they had each administered Benadryl to the infant on separate occasions. He argued the mistake was fatal but unintentional.

Canales Jr. was convicted in Lubbock County on Thursday (August 28) and is waiting sentencing. He faces up to 20 years in prison, reports KCBD 11. His wife, Sarah Canales, is now standing trial separately on the same charge.

Lubbock County Sheriff’s officers responded to a report of an unresponsive child in the family’s home on July 11, 2024, at around 4pm local time.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by KLBK at the time, Athena was found dead upon their arrival.

Cops also reportedly found a variety of drugs in the home, including cough syrups with dextromethorphan and diphenhydramine products like NyQuil and ZzzQuil, adds La Voce di New York.

Canales Jr. initially denied giving the drug to the child but later admitted the offense.

An autopsy report revealed Athena died of ‘mixed drug toxicity,’ the warrant adds, with diphenhydramine levels deemed too high for an infant to survive.

The active ingredient in Benandryl is an antihistamine that can be sedating, but in infants, it’s considered highly dangerous.

The FDC and CDC warn that it shouldn’t be administered to children under two without medical supervision with even relatively small overdoses triggering heart arrhythmias, coma and/or seizures which lead to death.

Grant Gardner, a father-of-two, disappeared on July 29 in Cloud Peak Wilderness after having planned a three-day hike surrounding the Misty Moon Lake area before eventually reaching Cloud Peak, the highest summit at 13,000ft in Wyoming’s Bighorn Mountains.

His wife, Lauren Gardner, became concerned when he did not return home, with his vehicle being discovered near the West Ten Sleep trailhead. The search for the 38-year-old officially began on August 1, but it was suspended on August 21 due to a lack of leads.

In an update shared on Facebook, the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office announced a break in the search after a professional climbing team from North Carolina climbed Cloud Peak and spotted a reflection underneath a ledge, which they believed to be a backpack.

The team notified the Sheriff’s office via satellite, and Gardner’s remains were shortly found next to the backpack following a difficult recovery on August 26.

The Sheriff’s Office announced in their statement: “Grant Gardner’s remains were located near the backpack. Gardner was wearing clothing that very closely matched the terrain he was climbing in.

“A difficult/dangerous recovery was conducted and Grant Gardner is being brought home to his family.”

They added: “Special thanks to a spectacular professional group of technical climbers who were in exactly the right spot, at the right moment, with the right light, to notice a small piece of fabric on a pack that was otherwise undetectable, for selflessly aborting their plans and working with SAR Teams to find Gardner, providing closure to his family.

“While it’s not the outcome we hoped for, we are hopeful this will provide much needed peace and closure to the family.”

The Sheriff’s Office also shared details of the hiker’s phone records, which showed his last contact to be a message to his wife.

According to the statement, Gardner’s last message was ‘letting her know he had made it to the summit’, the Sheriff’s office said.

Sadly, they reported that the text message indicated that the ‘climb was more taxing than he expected, and he was tired’.

After a rescue team finally recovered Gardner’s body, he was brought back home to his family.

In an emotional Facebook post, Gardner’s wife thanked everyone who looked for him and paid tribute to the ‘love of her life’, penning: “We are trying to find peace knowing that aside from being with his family, his favorite place to be was in nature.

“I want to again thank every person who helped look for him. I know how emotionally and physically draining the last 3 weeks have been for everyone. I’m eternally indebted to the kindness of strangers. I know we all wish this ended differently.”

The Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office has yet to confirm the cause and manner of Gardner’s death. However, Sheriff Ken Blackburn believes he fell in a tragic accident.

Roseana Spangler-Sims from California received the devastating diagnosis that she had stage 4 pancreatic cancer almost 18 months ago.

For the past year, the mom-of-one took on an intensive round of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, but a scan revealed that her cancer was continuing to spread.

In June, the 72-year-old decided to take matters into her own hands, telling PEOPLE that she planned on taking a fatal dose of medication on Sunday (August 31) under California’s Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) law.

Before taking the fatal dose, she sat down with the outlet to reveal her plans for her final days on Earth, which included a dose of magic mushrooms.

Roseana spent months planning the final day, giving away all her possessions and preparing to donate her body to scientific research at the University of California, San Diego.

Despite the hefty prep, Roseana said: “I’m ready to go. I’m more at peace than I’ve ever been.”

Rosena moved out of her Vista apartment on August 18 to spend her final two weeks near Palomar Mountain, north of San Diego, with her family, son, Shawn Cisneros, his wife Cindy and Cindy’s twin sister, Sandi.

The family took drives together through the forests and have sifted through boxes of photographs and other memories from over the years.

They also threw her ‘living wake’ which saw dozens of friends and family gather to celebrate her life.

Then on her final day, Roseana revealed exactly what she planned to eat – a light breakfast of papaya and mango, as her stomach can’t be full before consuming the fatal dose of medication.

As of 11am, her death doula Melissa McClave arrived to help Roseana and her family through the end-of-life process. Apsilocybin facilitator was also present with a ritual to use the psychedelic drug.

McClave explained the ritual involves a ‘smudging ceremony’ with sage followed by the administration of a microdose of magic mushrooms.

“It will be closer to Catholic last rites than it would be to going to a Phish concert,” she said.

Roseana also said she was looking forward to the ritual, stating it would help her ‘bring myself to that peaceful point.’

“And it’s also about feeling one with nature,” she added.

At 5pm, Roseana said she would take anti-nausea medication to facilitate the MAID medication ‘goes in and stays down’, a combination of sedatives, narcotics, and white grape juice, which she will take an hour later at around 6pm.

“I want it to go as quickly as possible. I don’t want the kids to sit here and look at me half dead for too long. I want to be out,” she said.

Roseana planned on taking the solution while in a hospital bed on the decking of the rental home, sitting beside hummingbird feeders and a pine tree overlooking a mountain forest.

“I’ve never been a fearful person. That just ain’t in my DNA,” she remarked not long before her passing. “I do get anxious about everything being okay for these guys,” she said, gesturing to her family.

McClave said Roseana may have to take a grape popsicle after taking the MAID medication to soothe any burning from the medicine but reassured her family that within a few minutes, she’ll experience a ‘euphoric feeling’ before slipping into a peaceful coma.

“I can’t wait to be numb,” Roseana added. “I can’t wait to make my body just melt away. For months and months it’s been constant pain. It will be a relief.

“I feel ready to fade,” she continued. “I believe I’m going off to a peaceful plane of existence. It’s like going into another dimension. Hopefully I’ve served the greater good enough that I can get to that peaceful place, what people think of as heaven.

“I don’t know if I can communicate with this dimension or not. I’m just looking forward to the adventure. And I want to leave you guys feeling like this is the next thing for me.”
