Passenger jet collides with helicopter while landing at Reagan Washington National Airport, FAA says

The D.C. airport said emergency personnel were responding to “an aircraft incident on the airfield.”

Live: Plane Crash reported near Reagan Washington National Airport

WASHINGTON — A jet carrying 60 passengers and four crew members collided Wednesday with an Army helicopter while landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport near Washington, prompting a large search-and-rescue operation in the nearby Potomac River.

There was no immediate word on casualties or the cause of the collision, but all takeoffs and landings from the airport were halted as helicopters from law enforcement agencies across the region flew over the scene in search of survivors. Inflatable rescue boats were launched into the Potomac River from a point along the George Washington Parkway, just north of the airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the midair crash occurred around 9 p.m. EST when a regional jet that had departed from Wichita, Kansas, collided with a military Blackhawk helicopter while on approach to an airport runway. It occurred in some of the most tightly controlled and monitored airspace in the world, just over three miles south of the White House and the Capitol.

Investigators will try to piece together the aircrafts’ final moments before their collision, including contact with air traffic controllers as well as a loss of altitude by the passenger jet.

American Airlines flight 5342 was inbound to Reagan National at an altitude of about 400 feet and a speed of about 140 miles per hour when it suffered a rapid loss of altitude over the Potomac River, according to data from its radio transponder. The Canadian-made Bombardier CRJ-701 twin-engine jet was manufactured in 2004 and can be configured to carry up to 70 passengers.

A few minutes before landing, air traffic controllers asked the arriving commercial jet if it could land on the shorter Runway 33 at Reagan National and the pilots said they were able. Controllers then cleared the plane to land on Runway 33. Flight tracking sites showed the plane adjust its approach to the new runway.

Less than 30 seconds before the crash, an air traffic controller asks the helicopter if it has the arriving plane in sight. The controller makes another radio call to the helicopter moments later: “PAT 25 pass behind the CRJ.” Seconds after that the two aircraft collide.

The plane’s radio transponder stopped transmitting about 2,400 feet short of the runway, roughly over the middle of the river.

Video from an observation camera at the nearby Kennedy Center showed two sets of lights consistent with aircraft appearing to join in a fireball.

The crash is serving as a major test for two of the Trump administration’s newest agency leaders. Pete Hegseth, sworn in days ago as defense secretary, posted on social media that his department was “actively monitoring” the situation that involved an Army helicopter. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, just sworn in earlier this week, said in a social media post that he was “at the FAA HQ and closely monitoring the situation.”

Reagan National is located along the Potomac River, just southwest of the city. It’s a popular choice because it’s much closer than the larger Dulles International Airport, which is deeper in Virginia.

Depending on the runway being used, flights into Reagan can offer passengers spectacular views of landmarks like the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the National Mall and the U.S. Capitol. It’s a postcard-worthy welcome for tourists visiting the city.

The incident recalled the crash of an Air Florida flight that plummeted into the Potomac on January 13, 1982, that killed 78 people. That crash was attributed to bad weather.

The last fatal crash involving a U.S. commercial airline occurred in 2009 near Buffalo, New York. Everyone aboard the Bombardier DHC-8 propeller plane was killed, including 45 passengers, 2 pilots and 2 flight attendants. Another person on the ground also died, bringing the total death toll to 50. An investigation determined that the captain accidentally caused the plane to stall as it approached the airport in Buffalo.

Breaking News: Elon Musk calls for a boycott of Bill Gates’ Microsoft Corporation, “everyone deserves to know the truth.

In a stunning move that has sent shockwaves through the tech industry, Elon Musk, the outspoken CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has publicly called for a boycott of Bill Gates’s Microsoft Corporation.

The feud between the two billionaires has escalated dramatically, with Musk accusing Microsoft of stifling innovation and monopolizing key areas of the tech world.

The Root of the Feud

The rivalry between Musk and Gates is nothing new, but recent events seem to have reignited tensions.

Musk took to social media to criticize Microsoft for its alleged “anti-competitive practices,” claiming the company is using its market dominance to suppress smaller competitors in fields like cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and software development.

“Microsoft is not fostering innovation; they’re crushing it,” Musk tweeted, sparking widespread debate online.

Musk also took a jab at Gates’s philanthropic endeavors, suggesting that his investments in green energy are overshadowed by Microsoft’s continued reliance on energy-hungry data centers.

What’s Behind Musk’s Boycott Call?

While Musk has not provided detailed evidence to support his accusations, insiders believe the feud may stem from Microsoft’s recent partnership with OpenAI.

The tech giant has poured billions into the AI powerhouse, which Musk co-founded but later distanced himself from due to disagreements over its direction.

Musk has been vocal about his concerns regarding the dangers of unchecked artificial intelligence, and he has frequently criticized Microsoft’s influence over OpenAI.

“AI is one of the most transformative technologies of our time, and it should not be controlled by a single entity,” Musk said in a recent interview.

Reactions from the Public and Tech World

Musk’s call for a boycott has sparked a mixed response. Some of his supporters have rallied behind him, accusing Microsoft of monopolistic practices and calling for greater transparency in the tech industry.

“I stand with Elon. Microsoft has too much power over our data and our future,” one user posted on X, Musk’s social media platform.

However, critics argue that Musk’s remarks are hypocritical, given Tesla’s dominance in the electric vehicle market and SpaceX’s growing control over satellite internet services.

“Pot, meet kettle. Musk criticizing Microsoft for monopolistic behavior is rich,” said one tech analyst.

Microsoft’s Response

As of now, Bill Gates and Microsoft have not issued a formal response to Musk’s comments.

Gates, who has largely stepped back from Microsoft’s day-to-day operations, has previously refrained from engaging in public disputes with Musk.

Microsoft, for its part, continues to emphasize its commitment to innovation and competition.

In a recent statement unrelated to Musk’s remarks, the company highlighted its investments in open-source projects and renewable energy initiatives.

The Bigger Picture

This public clash highlights the growing divide between tech billionaires who hold differing visions for the future of technology.

Musk’s libertarian approach, favoring decentralized innovation, stands in stark contrast to Gates’s focus on strategic partnerships and philanthropic investments.

Whether Musk’s boycott call will have any tangible impact on Microsoft remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the drama between these two tech titans is far from over.

As the tech world watches with bated breath, the question remains: Will this rivalry push the industry toward greater competition and accountability, or will it simply be another chapter in the saga of billionaires clashing over power and influence?

President Trump threatens to exile repeat criminal offenders: ‘I want them out of our country’

President Donald Trump has threatened to exile those who repeat criminal offenses, arguing that it would cost less for the taxpayer.

Trump was inaugurated for a second time on January 20, and he has wasted no time in implementing some changes.

On his first day alone he made some huge decisions like leaving the World Health Organization and cracking down on undocumented immigration.

Although has has pardoned 1500 people who were convicted of crimes at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, he appears to be coming down hard on other criminals.

Trump suggested on Monday that the United States could pay a “small fee” to foreign countries to house repeat criminal offenders, a proposal reminiscent of historical penal colonies.

Trump presented the idea as a cost-saving measure during remarks at a conference for House Republicans in Miami, per NBC News.

“If they’ve been arrested many, many times, they’re repeat offenders by many numbers, I want them out of our country,” he said.

“We’re going to get approval, hopefully, to get them the hell out of our country, along with others — let them be brought to a foreign land and maintained by others for a very small fee.”

According to Trump, such a policy would reduce the financial burden on the federal government by avoiding the expense of incarcerating repeat offenders in U.S. jails.

“We’re not going to use our jails for massive amounts of money,” he said, criticizing private prisons as entities that “charge us a fortune”.

Trump clarified that the proposal was distinct from current efforts to deport undocumented migrants with criminal records.

He acknowledged that such a plan would require official approval.

Historically, Britain transported convicts to the American colonies until the American Revolution, after which Australia became the primary destination for exiled prisoners.

The proposal aligns with the Trump administration’s broader push to reduce federal spending.

His newly established “Department of Government Efficiency,” led by tech billionaire Elon Musk, has already claimed to have saved more than $560 million by cutting programs, contracts, and leases.

It remains unclear what prompted Trump’s suggestion to exile U.S. citizens to foreign prisons. However, he cited cases of violent offenders who, despite numerous arrests, remain free to commit crimes.

He listed crimes such as pushing people into subway tracks, assaulting individuals with baseball bats, and attacking elderly citizens.

Trump asserted that crime rates would decline if offenders were sent abroad. “Let them be brought out of our country and let them live there for a while,” he said. “Let’s see how they like it.”

While Trump did not specify which countries might participate in such a program, he insisted that other nations already employ similar tactics.

Gymgoer, 29, died after chiropractor ‘cracked her neck’

A 29-year-old gymgoer tragically passed away after a visit to a chiropractor for neck pain went horribly wrong.

Joanna Kowalczyk, 29, from Newcastle, England, suffered a serious neck injury during a personal training session in September 2021.

Her injury, identified as an arterial dissection – a tear in the lining of an artery – was complicated by an underlying connective tissue disorder that heightened her susceptibility to such damage, according to The Times.

Despite visiting a hospital for an initial assessment, Kowalczyk declined a recommended procedure and opted instead for alternative treatment.

This decision ultimately led to further complications and her death.

Kowalczyk’s medical records revealed she had pre-existing conditions, including joint hypermobility and frequent migraines, that made her more vulnerable to arterial injuries.

However, her chiropractor failed to review these records or obtain additional medical information before proceeding with treatment.

The coroner found that during a series of four chiropractic sessions in September and October 2021, Kowalczyk suffered acute arterial dissections in the same area as her initial injury. These worsened her condition and proved fatal.

Assistant Coroner Leila Benyounes, presiding over the inquest for Gateshead and South Tyneside, concluded that Kowalczyk’s death was caused by “chiropractic treatment following a naturally occurring medical event.”

In her published findings, Benyounes called on the General Chiropractic Council to introduce mandatory protocols requiring chiropractors to review patients’ medical histories before administering treatment.

She said: “The evidence on behalf of the treating chiropractor was that he did not consider it necessary to request GP records or hospital records, before assessment or treatment despite being informed about the Deceased’s recent hospital attendance, investigation which was recommended, and her discharge against medical advice.

“Even in the updated consent form I have been provided with, which was designed by the British Chiropractic Association, there is no prompt or question designed for the chiropractor to ask to consider obtaining medical records before assessment or treatment, and when this may be appropriate.”

A review into the incident is ongoing. Credit: Zorica Nastasic/Getty

Benyounes continued: “The only reference to medical records is a consent to communicate as deemed necessary for the treatment, and for a report to be sent to the GP after treatment.

“I am concerned that consideration to obtaining medical records should always be given before assessment, particularly where recent medical treatment or investigations has been undertaken.”

Following her gym injury, Kowalczyk visited the emergency department, where she underwent a CT scan.

Doctors advised her to undergo a lumbar puncture to rule out the possibility of a hemorrhage, but she chose to “self-discharge” from the hospital.

She then sought chiropractic care for her neck pain, informing her practitioner of her prior hospital visit and scan.

Despite this, the chiropractor did not seek access to her medical records or follow up on her hospital diagnosis.

According to reports from the Daily Mail, Kowalczyk underwent four sessions of “adjustments and manipulation” at the chiropractic clinic before her condition rapidly deteriorated.

The case has sparked renewed scrutiny of chiropractic practices and the need for stricter guidelines to protect vulnerable patients.

The General Chiropractic Council is expected to review the coroner’s recommendations to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Vicky Pattison's husband Ercan reacts after watching her deepfake pornographic sex tape

She posted it ahead of her documentary

Vicky Pattison’s husband Ercan Ramadan has reacted to the deepfake sex tape she released ahead of her Channel 4 documentary Vicky Pattison: My Deepfake Sex Tape.

The documentary aired last night (28 January) and the former Geordie Shore star directed, produced, and distributed a sex tape online which featured her own likeness imposed onto one of the people in it via deepfake technology.

This has turned out to be a controversial move, as some have criticised Pattison as ‘disrespectful’ and Jodie, a campaigner for the survivors of deepfake abuse, told LADbible that she and other campaign groups had ‘strongly advised against this approach’.

Pattison had said she was ‘increasingly disturbed by how prevalent the problem of deepfake porn is becoming’ and making her own deepfake video was not a decision she took lightly.

During the Channel 4 documentary, there was a scene where she and her husband watched the deepfake sex tape she had made with her own image imposed on the footage.

While watching the deepfake, Ercan admitted that it ‘does look real doesn’t it’, and he gave a verdict of ‘not ideal’ over the issue.

He said: “It’s a very very good fake. As your husband, regardless of whether it’s fake or not, you don’t want a sex tape of your missus being sent around and talking about it, it’s not ideal at all.”

Later on, Ercan went upstairs and Vicky said he was hiding as he didn’t want to watch any more.

There has been some backlash to Vicky Pattison: My Deepfake Sex Tape, including from a campaigner who was involved in the early stages of the documentary who said: “You wouldn’t go and do a documentary where you get into a physically violent and abusive relationship to experience how it feels.”

Speaking to The Sun before the documentary released, Pattison said: “The video itself has always been the part of the documentary I’ve wrestled with the most.

“So it isn’t a decision I made lightly, and it is one that I struggled with right until the end.

“I completely understand some people might be angry and upset about what we’ve done and I in no way want to diminish that.

“I’d never want to trivialise victims’ feelings.

“I had the privilege of speaking to brave survivors and a lot of them felt that creating the mock deepfake sex tape was a bold way to shine a much-needed spotlight on the issue.”

She also said that she ‘can’t compare my experience to what the victims of this go through’, adding that ‘my heart goes out to them. I want to assure them that their feelings are valid and that I in no way want to diminish that’.

Speaking on the documentary, a Channel 4 spokesperson said: “We understand that there have been varying views on this approach. In this documentary, Vicky aims to demonstrate how simple it is to create explicit deepfake content and raise awareness of how accessible this content is and how it can proliferate online.

“She also wanted to experience, as closely as possible, the feelings, vulnerabilities and concerns that arise when one becomes a victim of deepfake porn.

“The documentary recreates this, in a controlled environment, to exemplify the ease with which this kind of content can spread online and to raise awareness by demonstrating actions people can take should they find themselves a victim of this crime.

“The choice to make original footage ensures that everyone involved was able to fully consent from the outset.

“The documentary hears directly from victims of image-based abuse, to ensure that victim’s stories are at the forefront of the purpose of the programme. In doing so, audiences will see first-hand testimony from those who have lived through this issue, thus raising the profile of the problem and the ways in which we must support victims, through better processes enforced on tech companies, government legislation, better education and activism.”

Love Island winner Jack Fincham jailed after 'out-of-control' dog mauled man

Jack Fincham has been jailed after his dog bit a runner

The 2018 Love Island winner Jack Fincham has been jailed for six weeks after pleading guilty to two counts of being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog.

His jail term comes after his dog, a black Cane Corso called Elvis, bit a man in Kent in 2022.

Prosecutor Erin Peck said that after the dog bit a runner, a man named Robert Sudell, Fincham was cautioned and told to go in for a responsible dog ownership course.

Mr Sudell had also accepted an apology after being bitten.

Among the conditions placed on Fincham were that he keep his dog muzzled, but in June last year there was an incident in Essex where the Cane Corso was out of control and he was later charged.

At the time the dog bit a man in Kent, Fincham had been subjected to a suspended sentence of 12 weeks custody suspended for 18 months for an unrelated driving matter.

The judge said ‘we find no reason not to’ activate the order and said that the Love Island winner would be jailed for six weeks.

“The dog was in a public place not abiding by the conditions to be muzzled and kept on a lead,” presiding magistrate Anne Wade said.

Along with his six week jail sentence, Fincham was ordered to pay £3,680 in total.

Among those charges was a £2,000 contribution to kennelling costs, a fine of £961 and £200 compensation to Mr Sudell.

Fincham’s representative Richard Cooper said that he ‘has no savings’, with Wade saying that he could pay his fines in £400 instalments.

The former Love Island star has also been ordered to keep Elvis muzzled, keep the dog on a lead and not to let the dog be alone with anyone under the age of 16.

The Cane Corso is an Italian breed of Mastiff, and is a large animal that is sometimes used as a guard dog.

Back when the XL Bully ban was being worked on Cathy Billington, of the Animals in Need sanctuary, mentioned the Cane Corso as one of the breeds that could be worse than the dangerous dogs.

She said: “The problem is always going to be breeding of dogs.

“Because we are having every backyard breeder breeding these XL bullies that aren’t being socialised, aren’t being trained properly.

“You then ban the XL bullies, they’ll move onto the Cane Corsos, the Presa Canarios – which you do not want on the streets, you really don’t.

It sounds like you’re managing an angry neck abscess with proper medical care, including incision and drainage (I&D) followed by packing removal after 24 hours—which is a great sign of improvement! To ensure it doesn’t recur and heals without scarring, follow these essential steps:

Preventing Recurrence:

  1. Complete Any Prescribed Antibiotics – Even if the abscess looks better, finish the full course.
  2. Maintain Hygiene – Keep the area clean and dry to prevent reinfection.
  3. Address Underlying Causes – If caused by poor shaving techniques, diabetes, or immune issues, address those factors.
  4. Avoid Picking or Squeezing – This can push bacteria deeper and worsen the infection.
  5. Boost Immunity – A healthy diet, hydration, and stress management can help prevent future infections.

Minimizing Scarring:

  1. Keep Wound Moist – Use petroleum jelly or antibiotic ointment to prevent scabbing and promote healing.
  2. Cover with a Non-Adherent Dressing – Protecting the area can reduce irritation and scarring.
  3. Avoid Sun Exposure – UV rays darken scars, so cover the area or apply sunscreen (SPF 30+).
  4. Consider Silicone Gel or Sheets – Once healed, these can help flatten and fade scars.
  5. Gentle Massage – After complete healing, gentle massage with vitamin E oil or coconut oil may improve skin texture.
