A wealthy man spent his late teens caring for his ailing grandmother to inherit all of her wealth, but all she left him was a note. He’d thought his grandmother had duped him all those years, only to discover later that what she’d left behind would change his life forever.

Braylon Morse had his priorities straight since he was a teenager, and he’d always dreamed of the day when he’d be rich and have all the comforts of life, allowing him and his mother Caroline to leave behind the miserable life they’d been living since his father abandoned them.

Not long enough, life presented Braylon with a golden opportunity when his grandmother Sandy became ill and had no one to care for her. Sandy, 90, was a cheerful woman who had managed her late husband’s business all by herself, from managing the shares to estates and everything else. But as her old age approached, she wanted her family, her daughter and grandson, to be close to her.

Unfortunately, Caroline and Sandy’s relationship became strained shortly after Caroline decided to marry Braylon’s father. Sandy had warned Caroline that he wasn’t the right man for her, but Caroline was so in love that she ignored all of his flaws, which gradually became apparent a few years after marriage, leading to the divorce, but it was too late by then.

Caroline and Sandy were diametrically opposed in every way, and Caroline avoided her even when she was ill. It was Braylon who stepped in to care for his sick grandmother, not out of concern, but because his eyes were gleaming at her wealth. “If you look after me, Braylon,” she’d said, “I promise I’ll leave you something that will change your life forever.”

To a mean teenager like Braylon, that meant the whole world. He was confident Sandy would leave him a fairly huge inheritance, so he decided to look after her until she went to her heavenly home. “Gran, I am the best caretaker in the world. You can just let me know what you want, and I’ll get it for you!” he’d tell her.

At that, Sandy would brightly smile at him. “Oh, my dear! I’m so glad you still care about me. I wish Caroline would soften her heart a little for me. If only she could let go of her anger toward me.”

“Oh, come on, gran! Why do you keep worrying about her? She doesn’t love you because she doesn’t know how special you are!” And Sandy’s sad face would brighten when Braylon said that. She just loved to see how much he cared for her, not knowing that Braylon’s mind was just fixated on her wealth.

You are special, Grandma. After all, after you die, all the wealth is mine! he’d gleefully ponder, and to ensure he could persuade Sandy, the 18-year-old boy paid her a visit every day after returning from university. He bought her groceries, cleaned her apartment, and watered her flowerbeds. Later, when her health deteriorated, and she was mostly confined to her bed, he assisted her in getting to the toilet and bath and back to bed.

Years passed in this manner. At 21, Braylon didn’t pay much attention to his studies and had dropped out of college to care for Sandy. After all, he was about to receive a large inheritance, and he couldn’t let his classes get in the way. He worked as a cashier at a Dunkin Donuts near Sandy’s house, and he’d already moved out of Caroline’s house.

One day, while he was cleaning Sandy’s closet, he discovered a large box of stamps. “Gran!” he inquired, perplexed. “Do these stamps belong to grandpa?”

“Oh, they’re here,” a forgetful Sandy said. “Yes, your grandpa loved them. They must be worth millions of dollars now. You see, you no longer get them anywhere. Some of those stamps belong to your grandad’s dad.”

Braylon’s face was beaming with joy when Sandy said that. “And this will be part of my inheritance as well,” he thought. “Just a few more days, Braylon, and you’d be living the life of a king.”

But fate had other plans for him…

Another year passed, and Sandy’s health did not appear to deteriorate. Braylon’s concern grew as he became tired of looking after her daily. The stench of her medications irritated him every time, her smile, which had once seemed pleasant to him, began to annoy him, so one day he declared that he didn’t want to look after her any longer…

“Are you serious, Gran?” he screamed at her. “Why didn’t you tell me your medicines were running out? You expect me to go to the pharmacy and get them for you right now?! That’s not going to happen!”

“It’s all right, Braylon,” Sandy said quietly. “It’s okay if you don’t want to. I’ll take it…”

“You should be okay, Gran!” Braylon retorted. “I’ve been looking after you as a caretaker for the past 5 years! And I’m done! I can’t do this anymore. I don’t care whether you eat or you die! Just get lost!” he yelled as he walked out of her house, slamming the door behind him.

However, as he was leaving for work the following day, he calmed down and realized he shouldn’t have yelled at her. Braylon, you’ve got to be crazy! What was the point of yelling at her? He cursed himself, fearing he had jeopardized his “future inheritance.”

So he decided to pay her a visit before going to work, but when he arrived, she was gone. Sandy had died peacefully in her sleep, and Braylon was overjoyed that all of her wealth would be his.

After the funeral, he went to her house to look for the treasured money, turning everything around, but all he found was a note on her featherbed. “To my loving Braylon,” the top of it read. Braylon recognized Sandy’s handwriting and opened the note to read it.

“Dear Braylon.

Thank you for being such a loving grandson and looking after me, honey. I am glad that you were around me when I needed a family. I know I can’t return what you did for me, but I’ve left something for you at the notary. The contact number is 202 535 0919. I’ll advise you to call him as soon as possible after you find this note.

With love,

Grandma Sandy.”

“So Grandma did leave her inheritance to me!” Braylon thought happily as he dialed the number on the note, but his hopes were quickly dashed.

“I believe you are mistaken, Mr. Morse,” the notary officer informed him. “Your grandmother only left you a painting and a note. All of her major estates and funds will be donated to charity.”

“What?” Braylon was taken aback. “Are you sure? I mean…”

“If you don’t believe me, you can come to the office and confirm it,” the officer snapped. “Thank you!” And the call was disconnected.

Braylon, shaken by the news, immediately went to the notary office to confirm it — only for his hopes to be dashed again. He cursed himself for looking after Sandy, and when he looked at the painting, he thought it was terrible and that he wouldn’t even get $20 for it. Besides, the other note she’d left made him feel like she was mocking him: “I hope you liked the little gift from Grandma Sandy, Braylon. Trust me, it will change your life!” it said.

“Sure, it will! If I was a homeless person begging for alms!” Braylon thought as he walked out of the notary’s office with the painting.

Five years later…

Braylon was now working as a data entry operator at a friend’s company. He met the love of his life, Ashley, soon after joining there, and the two got married after going out on a few dates.

When Ashley became pregnant, the couple decided to relocate to a larger home and sell some of the old items in the basement. Braylon came across the painting again at that point. When he saw it, he lost his cool. “For so many years, I squirmed over her bed for some useless painting?!” he mumbled as he carried it to the living room to be stacked with the items he intended to sell.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. His friends, Steve and Linda had paid a visit for lunch. “Come on in!” he said, showing them the way inside.

“Honey, Steve, and Linda are here! Sorry about the mess in the house, guys….. You know, moving out and all that…”

Ashley came out of the kitchen. “Oh, Steve and Linda. I’m so glad you could make it today. I’m going to miss you guys terribly when we leave.”

“Oh, babe,” Linda exclaimed. “Don’t worry, we’ll come to visit you, after all, we need to meet the little one…”

Suddenly, Steve spoke up. “Hey, Braylon….this painting….where did you get it?”

“Ughh… that’s some crap, you know. Something my grandmother left behind. I’m going to sell it for a few dollars…”

“Are you insane? That’s a billion-dollar painting!” Steve declared, making Braylon’s heart pound.

“What? But….”

“Yeah, man. Trust me, I’m an antique dealer. I’ve seen several paintings, but this one is rare! Have you heard of the painter Angel McKinsekey? He used to paint only when he was sad, and all of his works are worth billions!”

Braylon couldn’t believe Stevens’ words, but after a few days of searching and consulting with the other antique dealers, he realized they were true. That painting was a true rarity, and many collectors were vying for it.

Braylon couldn’t help but feel guilty at this point. His grandmother adored him, but he was obsessed with money, completely forgetting that his grandmother Sandy was more valuable. So after realizing his mistake, he kept the painting as a reminder that his grandmother probably knew he was after her money but still loved him.

What can we learn from this story?

  • Family is the most valuable treasure. Braylon realized this when he discovered what Sandy had left for him, but it was too late by then.
  • Make amends before it’s too late. If only Braylon had cared for Sandy with his heart, he wouldn’t have missed out on all those years of her genuine love and concern for him.

Cruise ship worker explains why you should never pay for one particular luxury while on board

Lucy has worked on cruise ships for a decade and knows a thing or two about the do’s and don’ts

A cruise ship worker of 10 years has revealed the one luxury purchase you should never pay for while on your cruise ship holiday.

Millions of us head on to the open seas every year for a holiday on a cruise, with many treating it as a once in a lifetime experience, while others will go on no other kind of vacation.

With thousands of people on a ship at any one time, there has to be lots to do to keep people entertained. After all, you’re paying customers who have likely spent thousands and thousands for your cabin, drinks packages, and other luxury add-ons.

But according to Lucy Southerton, who has worked for the likes of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Voyages cruise line as well as Royal Caribbean and P&O Cruises, there is one luxury additional purchase you should avoid if you want to avoid some potentially awful side effects. And after spending a decade of her life on the open seas, the Birmingham native knows a thing or two about what you should and should not do.

‘Avoid this cruise ship purchase’

Speaking in a recent video to her Cruising as Crew YouTube channel, Lucy explained why you shouldn’t spend your hard earned money on this purchase ‘at all costs’.

For Lucy, who spent two years working in spas on cruise ships, the big red flag came down to specific treatments in the spa facilities offered across many cruise lines.

In particular, she has said it is a massive no when it comes to getting Botox and filler at sea.

“There’s probably going to be a lot of you watching who didn’t even know that getting Botox and filler on a cruise ship was even an option,” Lucy says.

Why you should avoid Botox and filler on a cruise ship?

“There’s a few reasons for this,” Lucy explains.

“The first reason. Although Botox and filler is actually a routine procedure for some people there is still a lot that can go wrong. And I’m not talking about just a botched lip job or a botched Botox job.

“I’m talking about things like necrosis and you do not want to have something like that when you are at sea.”

Necrosis is a very real and rare side effect of having a Botox injection. This is where the cells in your body prematurely die due to a lack of blood flow; it cannot be reversed.

As well as the above terrifying outcome, Lucy highlighted what actually happens after you get a Botox procedure. She said: “When you have a Botox and filler treatment, usually two weeks after you’ll go back and have a review where they will make sure that the Botox is sitting the way it’s supposed to sit or the filler is sitting the way it’s supposed to sit. Because again, if you have these treatments you’ll know that it does take a few days for it to get into place.

“Now this is fine if you’re on a month long cruise but if you’re going on a four or five-day cruise that means your review isn’t going to happen now. The therapist will book you in for a review before you leave the cruise ship but if you’re on a four day cruise and you have Botox done or filler done on the second day, you have to have your review a few days later which means that the filler or Botox might not be like in place yet.

“And once you’re off the ship it’s very difficult to get hold of the person who administered your Botox and filler which means if there is a problem with it sucks to be you.”

It's a no for waxing and haircuts too (Instagram / @cruisingascrew)

Others to avoid

As well as Botox and filler, Lucy said you should not get your hair cut on a cruise ship.

“While I have worked with some truly fantastic hairdressers in my time I have also seen people walk out of the salon with orange hair and they didn’t want orange hair,” she said.

“I have seen bowl cuts, I’ve seen incredibly awful layering. I’ve seen some true disasters when it comes to haircuts.”

On top of this, waxing is another red flag for Lucy.

She said: “Usually people get this treatment done before they go on their cruise so it isn’t a very popular treatment. So although there might be a girl who is qualified to wax that works in the spa that can do your waxing treatment she might not have waxed anyone for six months.

“It’s not that I’m saying don’t get waxed on board if you really want it or need it, I’m just saying don’t have high expectations. She probably hasn’t done a waxing treatment in a few months so it might be a little bit more painful than usual, and she might not get every single hair.”

Woman who survived 15,000ft skydive after parachute didn't open shares two thoughts she had before hitting ground

Emma Carey remained conscious throughout the whole ordeal and couldn’t feel her legs after she’d hit the ground

A woman who survived a 15,000 skydive where her parachute failed had two thoughts going through her mind before she hit the ground.

In 2013 Australian woman Emma Carey was skydiving in the Swiss Alps with her best friend Jemma, who was very nervous about the prospect of plummeting out of a plane before parachuting to the ground.

Emma had been ‘loving’ the experience until the time came for her parachute to be pulled, with her instructor tapping her on the shoulder to prepare for a jolt as her sudden fall to the ground was slowed.

Only there was no jolt, and Emma could see her instructor was unconscious because of the parachute cords while their parachute itself was in ‘bunched up bundles’, according to ESPN.

Stuck in the nightmare scenario of hurtling towards the ground and her parachute not opening properly, two thoughts went through Emma’s mind.

Her first thought as she plummeted towards the ground and her parachute wouldn’t open was the utterly understandable thought that she did not want to die, that despite all the odds of her surviving her current situation being against her she wanted to survive it.

The second thought was the sad knowledge that if she did die from the fall, then her best friend Jemma would be the one who found her body.

Emma then hit the ground, having remained conscious throughout the entire ordeal, but incredibly neither she nor her instructor died, with them still unconscious and strapped to her.

She had broken her sternum, pelvis and vertebrae and crushed her spinal cord.

While there was pain everywhere and she could not move her legs, the then 20-year-old was able to shout for help.

Jemma had landed about half a mile away and ran towards her friend, waiting with Emma for around an hour for help to arrive.

It was a long recovery for Emma, though her doctors told her she’d been paralysed from the waist down she was eventually able to walk again after a lengthy period of physiotherapy.

Jemma had the unenviable task of calling Emma’s family in Australia to tell them she had been critically injured while skydiving and was in hospital.

Emma’s mum and sister travelled to Switzerland to be by her side. Her skydiving instructor had been taken to the same hospital and while she did feel mad at them and the whole situation at times she decided forgiveness was the right thing to do, particularly after she woke up in her hospital bed one day to find them by her bedside in a wheelchair.

The leading theory as to what went wrong is that the instructor forgot his altimeter, misjudged their altitude and pulled the regular chute at the exact same time as the emergency chute, resulting in the two becoming tangled.

Emma ended up writing a book titled The Girl who Fell from the Sky and has spoken about her experience several times.

Heartbroken mother speaks out after her daughter was cut into 200 pieces by husband

Holly Bramley was murdered in 2023 by her husband Nicholas Metson

Warning: This article contains graphic descriptions of violence which some readers may find distressing.

The mother of a woman brutally murdered by her husband has spoken out for the first time about her heartbreak, admitting she ‘knew he would kill her’.

26-year-old Holly Bramley was murdered in March 2023 by her husband Nicholas Metson, 28, having last been seen alive in public entering her flat on 17 March.

He stabbed her at least four times at the Lincoln flat they lived in before dismembering her body and storing it in the larder of their kitchen for a week.

Metson bought a significant amount of cleaning products in an attempt to cover up the murder and paid friend Joshua Hancock, 28, £50 to help with a ‘job’, disposing of Holly’s remains in the River Witham in Bassingham.

Police went round to the flat after Holly went missing and Metson claimed she had left on 19 March with a local mental health crisis team.

However, officers said the flat had a ‘strong smell of bleach and ammonia’ and found a saw on a towel, bloodstained sheets and a bloodstain on the bedroom floor.

An investigation into Metson’s phone found he had Googled ‘How to get rid of a dead body’, ‘What benefits can I get if my wife dies’ and ‘Does God forgive murder’.

On 25 March a member of the public found Holly’s remains, though initially thought they belonged to an animal until a human hand was seen among the body parts.

A court was told that some parts of Holly, including parts of her heart, have never been recovered.

Metson had initially denied murdering Holly but changed his plea to guilty before the trial, and last year he was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum sentence of 19 years and 316 days.

Speaking to the Mail, Holly’s mum Annette said she knew that Metson would kill her daughter.

“I knew he would kill her,” the mother said, explaining that Metson got Holly to move 50 miles away from her family without telling them.

“I told police he would murder her; I told anyone who would listen. Her family could all see it, but nobody could stop it.”

Holly's mum Annette said she 'told anyone who would listen' that Metson would kill her. (Lincolnshire Police)

She had Googled him and found he’d previously been convicted of sharing explicit photos of a previous partner, and while her daughter didn’t tell her much about the relationship she did hear some horrifying things.

Annette said that Holly had once come home saying Metson ‘killed their puppy’, having put the dog in the washing machine and then drowned it in the shower after her daughter had rescued the animal the first time.

The mum says she got her daughter to go to the RSPCA but they told Annette they couldn’t prosecute Metson because Holly had retracted her statement, several more of her pets were killed by Metson over the years.

Though Annette went to the police several times her daughter was not willing to file a complaint against Metson. At one point she showed them messages between her daughter and Metson but police said there was not enough evidence for a prosecution, and she never saw her daughter again after 2021 when they moved away.

“I was heartbroken,” Annette said.

“It was as though, overnight, my daughter had disappeared. He had her completely under his control, and she always went back to him.”

BBC Antiques Roadshow expert emotionally refuses to value item in tragic show first

It was during a World War Two special

During a World War Two special of Antiques Roadshow, expert Bill Harriman became distinctly emotional and decided not to value an item he’d been asked to appraise.

The experts on the show have seen all sorts of items over the years but sometimes they come across a piece of history that deeply affects them. Take a look:

In the episode, filmed in 2019 to mark 80 years since the beginning of World War Two, the experts took a departure from the usual format of Antiques Roadshow by not appraising the things brought to them.

It’s rare for the experts not to give a value to an item, but there are times it has happened.

Many people brought in old keepsakes and objects from that time, including pictures of a meeting between Adolf Hitler and Neville Chamberlain in 1938, and Bill Harriman was clearly affected when a guest brought on a series of letters which told a sad story.

One of the letters was sent to the parents of a young child called Audrey, who in 1940 had been sent to Canada by ship in an attempt to keep her away from the Nazi bombings.

Sadly, the letter was to tell Audrey’s parents that the ship taking their daughter across the Atlantic had been hit by a torpedo and sunk.

The letter, dated 19 September, 1940, read: “Dear Mr Mansfield, I am very distressed to inform you that in spite of all of the precautions taken by the ship carrying your child to Canada was torpedoed on Tuesday night September 17th.

“I am afraid your child was not amongst those reported as rescued.”

The expert then became emotional as he read a letter from Audrey to her parents written while she had still been in England.

The letter was from a child named Audrey who was killed soon after writing it. (BBC)

It read: “Dear mummy and daddy, I am somewhere in England and having a good time.

“We have lovely playing fields with all sorts of things. Give my love to Nanny and Panky, don’t worry. Love from Audrey.

“P.S. I have made some friends.”

The letter ended with a series of kisses from the child who would soon afterwards be killed during attempts to evacuate her to Canada.

That made the expert tear up as he dabbed his eyes and called the message ‘truly, truly heart-wrenching’ knowing the details of Audrey’s life and its end far too soon.

“I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it before, this little girl hasn’t got a grave but in you she has a very great advocate,” Harriman told the guest who’d brought the letters onto Antiques Roadshow.

Payton Leutner was stabbed 19 times in 2014 by her classmates Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier

The victim of the ‘slender man’ stabbing has revealed exactly what happened on the day she was attacked.

Payton Leutner was stabbed 19 times in 2014, by her classmates Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier. All three of the girls were aged 12 at the time.

Geyser and Weier later told police they had stabbed Payton to ‘prove themselves worthy’ of the fictional Slender Man, claiming that they feared their families would be harmed if they didn’t do it.

Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide and was sent to the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, Wisconsin, with a 40-year sentence.

Meanwhile, Weier also pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted second-degree intentional homicide. She was sent to the same institute and was given a 25-year sentence. However, Weier was released just a few years later, in 2021, on the condition that she wore a GPS monitor.

Following her horrific ordeal, Payton has spoken about what happened on the day in 2014, explaining she believed she was playing hide and seek with the girls after they had had a sleepover for Geyser’s birthday the night before.

“I shouldn’t be alive after what happened,” Payton told ABC’s Nightline.

“They just wanted to go on a walk. And I didn’t think much of it. It’s just a walk. It’s in Waukesha. What bad stuff happens in Waukesha, Wisconsin?

“Anissa told me to lie on the ground and cover myself in sticks and leaves and stuff to hide, in a sense. But it was really just a trick to get me down there.”

Geyser stabbed Payton 19 times before the girls left, telling her they were going to get help.

“I got up, grabbed a couple trees for support, I think,” said Payton.

“And then just walked until I hit a patch of grass where I could lay down.

“I couldn’t focus much because my body was working so hard to keep itself alive. It was probably like, ‘Vision isn’t really a priority right now.'”

Moments later and a cyclist came across Payton, who was covered in blood.

The 12-year-old was rushed to hospital, with the surgeon explaining that if the wound to her chest had been ‘the width of a human hair’ deeper, she would not have survived.

Meanwhile, Geyser and Weier had walked for five hours before they were stopped on the side of a road by authorities.

It has now been reported that Geyser will also be released from hospital, following a number of failed petitions over the last few years.

The first two petitions were withdrawn, meanwhile a third – submitted in April 2024 – was denied due to Geyser still being considered a threat to the public.

However, Waukesha County Circuit Judge Michael Bohren has now approved Geyser’s release from the hospital after finding the 22-year-old to no longer be a risk.

Bohren has ordered the state’s Department of Health Services to make plans within 60 days to house Geyser in a group home where they can be supervised.

He said Geyser had since grown up and must exist as part of society if there is to be rehabilitation.

Diver issued plea after five people suffered most gruesome death imaginable in Byford Dolphin accident

The Byford Dolphin tragedy took place on 5 November, 1983

The Byford Dolphin tragedy claimed the lives of five people and a diver has issued a warning to those who are looking up the incident.

On 5 November, 1983, four divers and one crew member were on board the Byford Dolphin, a semi-submersible oil rig regularly used in the North Sea.

The group of divers – who would regularly carry out construction work on oil rigs – were tasked with drilling 20,000 feet into the earth’s crust.

This is the equivalent of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa at 19,000 feet.

Tragically, catastrophic decompression killed all five people instantly because the diving bell was improperly opened while still under pressure, causing a violent release of air.

The extreme pressure change led to fatal injuries and the tragic deaths of the divers.

A diving instructor who runs the Waterline Stories YouTube channel has since warned people who are researching the tragedy.

“Accidents happen when systems break down and there are few systems as complex and dangerous as saturation diving on a deep sea gas drilling rig,” he said.

“Now, when you go and take a look on the internet to find information about the Byford Dolphin accident, you’re going to come across some horrific images.

“So please be careful when you start to take a look for this accident. And be aware that what you come across is going to shock you.”

Another YouTube channel called Storified previously shared a horrifying simulation video of the incident.

“The diving bell disconnected before the chamber doors fully closed, releasing an explosive depressurisation,” the video explains.

“The air pressure inside the bell instantly shifted from nine atmospheres – the pressure experienced while 297 feet below the water – to one atmosphere, the average air pressure on the surface.

“The explosive rush of air out of the chamber sent the heavy diving bell flying. The diving bell struck Crammond and Saunders, critically wounding them.

“The fate of the four divers inside was far worse. Lucas, Coward and Bergersen’s blood ‘boiled’ instantly in their bodies as enormous amounts of dissolved nitrogen suddenly returned to their gaseous state. The divers died instantly.

“Hellevik suffered the worst death since he was closest to the connecting door. The pressure equalisation caused the door to chamber one to partially jam, causing Hellevik’s body to be forced through a small 24-inch crescent-shaped opening with a tremendous force of 25 tons.

“The sheer pressure resulted in the horrific outcome of his internal organs bursting through his body through the opening.”

When Maggie moves into a new house with her son, Ethan, and husband, Kyle, she is more than ready for a new start. Her son needed fresh scenery and a new school, and Maggie just wanted him to be happy. But one day, a husky wanders into their yard, eating their food and growing close to Ethan. Soon after, the husky leads Maggie and Ethan into the woods, ready to show them something devastating…

When we moved into our new house, I had a good feeling. It was a new chapter in our lives, and I was more than ready for it. Kyle, my husband, and I were excited to give our son, Ethan, a fresh start. He had recently gone through a bullying experience at school, and we all wanted to just put it behind us.

The house had belonged to an older man named Christopher, who’d passed away recently. His daughter, a woman in her forties, sold it to us, telling us that it was too painful to keep and that she hadn’t even lived in it since her father’s death.

“There’s too many memories in there, you know?” she told me when we first met to walk through the house. “And I don’t want it to get into the wrong hands. I want it to be a home to a family who will love it as much as my family did.”

“I know exactly what you mean, Tracy,” I said reassuringly. “We’ll make this house into our forever home.”

We were eager to settle in, but from the first day, something strange happened. Every morning, a husky would show up at our front door. He was an old dog, with graying fur and piercing blue eyes that seemed to look right through you.

The sweet boy didn’t bark or make a fuss. He would just sit there, waiting. Of course, we gave him some food and water, figuring that he belonged to a neighbor. After eating, he’d wander off like it was routine.

“Do you think his owners just don’t feed him enough, Mom?” Ethan asked one day when we were at the grocery store getting our weekly groceries and food for the husky, too.

“I don’t know, E,” I said. “Maybe the old man who lived in our house fed him, so it’s part of his routine?”

“Yeah, that makes sense,” Ethan said, adding some dog treats to our cart.

At first, we didn’t think much of it. Kyle and I wanted to get Ethan a dog; we just wanted to wait until he was settled down at his new school first.

But then, he came the next day. And the day after that. Always at the same time, always sitting patiently by the porch.

It felt like the husky wasn’t just any stray. He acted like he belonged here. Like we were just temporary guests in his home. It was strange, but we didn’t think much of it.

Ethan was over the moon. And I knew that my son was slowly falling in love with the husky. He spent as much time as he could running around with the dog, tossing sticks for him, or sitting on the porch, talking to him like they’d known each other forever.

I would watch from the kitchen window, smiling at the way Ethan had immediately bonded with this mysterious dog.

It was exactly what Ethan needed after everything he had been through at his old school.

One morning, while petting him, Ethan’s fingers traced the dog’s collar.

“Mom, there’s a name here!” he called out.

I came over and knelt down next to the dog, brushing away some of the fur covering the worn leather collar on him. The name was barely visible, but there it was:

Christopher Jr.

My heart skipped a beat.

Was it just a coincidence?

Christopher, just like the man who had owned our house? Could this husky have been his dog? The thought sent a chill down my spine. Tracy hadn’t mentioned anything about a dog.

“Do you think he’s been coming here because it used to be his home?” Ethan asked, looking up at me with wide eyes.

I shrugged, feeling a little unsettled.

“Maybe, sweetheart. But it’s hard to say.”

At the same time, it felt like the husky wasn’t just any stray. He acted like he belonged here. Like we were just temporary guests in his home. It was strange, but we didn’t think much of it.

Later that day, after Christopher Jr. had eaten, he began to act strange.

He whined softly, pacing back and forth near the edge of the yard, his eyes darting toward the woods. He had never done that before. But now, it was almost like he was asking us to follow him.

The dog stopped and stared straight ahead, and that’s when I saw it.

“Mom, I think he wants us to go with him!” Ethan said excitedly, already pulling on his jacket.

I hesitated.

“Darling, I’m not sure that’s a good idea…”

“Come on, Mom!” Ethan said. “We’ve got to see where he’s going and what’s going on. We’ll take our phones and I’ll text Dad so that he knows. Please?”

I didn’t want to do it, but I was curious. There was something about the dog’s urgency that made me think that this was more than just a random walk in the woods.

So, we followed.

The husky led the way, glancing back at us every so often to make sure we were still there. The air was crisp, and the woods were quiet, except for the occasional snap of a twig under our boots.

“You’re still sure about this?” I asked Ethan.

“Yes!” he said excitedly. “Dad has our location, don’t worry, Mom.”

We walked for about twenty minutes, deeper and deeper into the forest. Deeper than I’d ever been before. I was just about to suggest turning back when the husky stopped abruptly at a small clearing.

The dog stopped and stared straight ahead, and that’s when I saw it.

There was a pregnant fox, trapped in a hunter’s snare, barely moving at all.

“Oh my God,” I whispered, rushing toward the fox.

She was weak, her breathing shallow, her fur matted with dirt. The trap had dug into her leg, and she was trembling with pain.

“Mom, we’ve got to help her!” Ethan said, his voice shaking. “Look at her, she’s hurt!”

“I know, I know,” I said, my hands fumbling to free her from the cruel trap. The husky stood close, whining softly as if he understood the fox’s pain.

After what felt like an eternity, I managed to loosen the trap. The fox didn’t move at first. She just lay there, panting heavily.

“We have to get her to the vet immediately, E,” I said, pulling out my phone to call Kyle.

When Kyle arrived, we gently wrapped the fox in a blanket that he brought and rushed her to the nearest vet clinic. The husky, of course, came with us.

It felt like he wasn’t going to leave the fox, not after all of this.

The vet said that the fox needed surgery, and we waited nervously in the small, sterile room. Ethan was quiet, sitting next to the husky, his hands resting on the dog’s thick fur.

“You think she’ll make it, Mom?” Ethan asked.

“I hope so, honey,” I said, squeezing his shoulder. “She’s tough. And we did everything we could.”

The surgery was successful, but when the fox woke up, she was howling, her cries echoing through the clinic.

The vet couldn’t calm her down, and neither could Kyle. But when I walked into the room, she stopped. Her eyes locked onto mine, and she let out one last soft whimper before falling silent.

“It’s like she knows you helped her,” the vet said.

We went back for her two days later, and brought her home. We set her up in a small den in the garage where she could rest and recover. CJ, the husky, as Ethan had taken to calling him, stayed with Vixen the fox the entire time.

A few days later, she gave birth to four tiny kits. It was truly the most amazing thing I’d ever seen. And she let me be a part of it.

“She only lets us near her babies,” Ethan told me one day when we went to check on Vixen and the babies. “She trusts us.”

I nodded and smiled.

“And the dog too,” I added. “CJ seems to be right at home with us.”

When the babies were old enough, Kyle and I knew it was time to let them go. We built a proper den for them back in the forest and watched as Vixen disappeared into it with her babies.

Now, every weekend, Ethan, CJ, and I walk to the forest to visit them. The fox always comes out to greet us, her kits trailing behind her, just as curious as ever.

Sutton is left with only one choice: to teach him a lesson before the flight lands.

You know how some people think they’re better than the rest of us because they paid for a little more legroom and a hot towel? And maybe a glass or two of champagne?

Jimmy Carter’s memorial service was held on January 9, 2025, at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. He died aged 100 and was the longest-living former president in US history.

The performance by Garth Brooks and his wife, Trisha Yearwood at Jimmy Carter’s funeral sparked an uproar, with many fans criticizing the choice of song. They specifically called out the lyrics they found inappropriate for a church setting and a Christian funeral.

Brooks and Yearwood, who were close friends of Carter, sang a rendition of John Lennon’s 1971 track “Imagine,” at the Democrat’s funeral. Their performance caused quite a stir online, with many fans voicing their opinions on the choice of song.

The firestorm on social media largely revolved around the song’s lyrical rejection of religion. One of the most dividing verses sings, “Imagine there’s no heaven, It’s easy if you try, No hell below us, Above us only sky.” Fans didn’t love the idea of having these words sung in a church setting as they challenged the very values of the Christian funeral.

One fan expressed their disbelief, “Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood sing Imagine at a highly Christian funeral?!! How awful. Imagine there’s no Heaven?? [sic].”

Another triggered fan criticized this decision, “Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are performing ‘Imagine’ at Jimmy Carter’s funeral. ‘Imagine there’s no heaven…’ ‘And no religion too …’ I gotta wonder—who planned this? There’s no worse song to sing at a funeral, except maybe ‘Highway to Hell.’ Sad. Pitiful, really [sic].”

Others took a hit at the song directly, writing“Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood Singing the worst song ever written. ‘Imagine’ there’s no heaven. It’s easy if you try. No thank you. What kind of funeral song is that?! [sic]” More users questioned the song’s appropriateness, “Why would you sing this song at a Christian funeral? Weird.”

Others were more direct in their disapproval, calling it the “most insulting song that could be played at a Christian funeral.” One user pointed out Carter’s strong faith, “Carter was a devout Christian and that song was absolutely tone-deaf to sing at his funeral.” Another individual agreed, “Inappropriate song for a devout Christian funeral.”

The setting was targeted, with one fan noting, “Sung in a historic cathedral…🤔. Bet Jimmy was rolling over in that coffin. 🙃” while another simply expressed disgust, “Yikes 😳.” Some considered it shameful, penning, “disgraceful.”

Another fan concurred“That is a truly inappropriate choice of material. If Brooks chose that he should be ashamed. If someone asked for it he should have politely declined.” Others felt the performance wasn’t great, with one saying“He should have rehearsed.”

One user was conflicted, writing, “This is a beautiful performance. The choice of this song is disrespectful to Carter’s memory.”

On the other hand, a few fans were more forgiving of the performance, with one stating, “It was absolutely amazing and beautiful hearing those 2 sing.” A fan, who also didn’t agree with the backlash, swooned, “Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood singing John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ at the Jimmy Carter funeral was one of most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard [sic].”

Garth Brooks and Yearwood performed the song because it was one of Jimmy Carter’s all-time favorites. In a past interview, Carter had been asked what his favorite Beatles song was and he answered, “My favorite is ‘Imagine.’ When I go to a strange country, Cuba and other places, in some of those nations, ‘Imagine’ has become a national anthem.”

Carter gushed about his appreciation for “Imagine,” noting its significance and widespread appeal. He shared that on a trip to Havana, one will see Lennon’s statue. He remarked that such places “always play ‘Imagine,’ and it’s one of my favorites just personally.”

Carter also reflected on how the song critiques aspects such as religion, national boundaries, nationalism, and jingoism. Yet, he acknowledged its profound impact, emphasizing its ability to resonate deeply with audiences worldwide.

Hence, “Imagine” by Lennon became a meaningful way for Brooks and Yearwood to honor their friend. Following his passing, Brooks shared a tribute on Instagram, “President Carter, the legacy you and Rosalynn have left us is as beautiful as the life you lived.”

Brooks expressed his gratitude to Carter and his late wife, Rosalynn Carter, for their lifetime of service to both the country and the world. He acknowledged how they inspired everyone not only through their words but also through their actions.

Trisha Yearwood also wrote a touching message on her Instagram account, “Rest easy, Mr. President. I’m sad for us, and happy for you. Your and Mrs. Rosalynn’s legacy of love will live forever. ♥️”

Brooks and Yearwood, actively participated in Carter’s projects, particularly with Habitat for Humanity. They shared their experience of working on the Carter Work Project for 2024 on Instagram. The 2024 Carter Work Project united a diverse group of volunteers, homeowners, and supporters to repair and renovate more than 4,447 homes in 14 countries.

The couple were grateful to be involved in this project. Brooks emphasized the importance of their involvement, adding that while they showed up to contribute, they left with far more than they gave. “As they say, Home is the key and love never quits!” wrote Brooks.

When Carter turned 100 in 2024, Brooks and his wife commended him for the work he had done in building homes, “Your work has impacted the world and your heart continues to change lives, ours included.”

The couple added, “Thank you for inspiring all of us to give more and love more! It’s an honor to be your friend. love, Garth and Trisha.”

Even while Carter was in hospice in 2024, Yearwood reflected on how his enduring legacy of service continued to inspire the volunteers of his projects. She emphasized that while he couldn’t physically participate, Carter and his wife’s presence was strongly felt during the project. “We’re just two volunteers, but everybody who’s on this site feels that responsibility to make them proud,” she shared.

Yearwood noted that she and Brooks strive to be great teammates like Carter and his wife were. She also divulged that she wasn’t surprised by the former president’s longevity. She recalled how, even at the age of 90, her friend was already planning what he would accomplish in the next 20 years.

Brooks also chimed in, “We all bet that he was going to be around a long time and he has not let any of us down or disappointed any of us. The fact that he was there for Ms. Rosalynn’s funeral was very touching.”

How to Get Rid of Blackheads on Your Forehead
How to Get Rid of Blackheads on Your Forehead

Blackheads on your forehead are frustrating and annoying, but getting rid of them can be a breeze with the right tips and tricks. Learn how to get rid of blackheads on your forehead and prevent them in the future with these top tips!

Shop Deep Cleansing Pore Strips

What are Blackheads?

Compared to other forms of acne, blackheads are a less inflammatory form known as open comedones. They are clogged pores that become visible on your skin and can usually be attributed to an over-production of sebum mixed with dead skin cells, dirt, and other pore-clogging materials. When the sebum is exposed to oxygen, it darkens and creates a dark spot on your skin

What Causes Blackheads on Your Forehead

Your forehead is part of the T-Zone, a part of your face that also includes your nose and chin. Your T-Zone typically produces more oil than the rest of your face, so blackheads are more likely to form in this area. The main causes of blackheads on your forehead (and all over your body) are most often dirt, oil, and dead skin cells clogging your pores. Some of the oil on your skin is known as sebum, and is naturally produced by your skin to hydrate and protect itself.

Your T-Zone typically produces more oil than the rest of your face, so blackheads are more likely to form in this area.

The primary causes of blackheads on your forehead are:

  • Excess oil naturally produced by your skin
  • Pore-clogging products like sunscreen and makeup
  • Not washing your face after a sweaty workout
  • Residue from hair products settling on your forehead
  • Dry, flaky skin clogging your pores

Some people produce more oil than others. If you have naturally oily skin, you are typically more prone to blackheads and clogged pores. Oily hair and hair product residue can also lead to blackheads by seeping down from your scalp and clogging the pores on your forehead. Unfortunately, constantly washing your face during the day to remove excess oil is not the answer. Washing your face too often can cause your skin to overproduce oil because it thinks that it’s too dry. Use our tips on how to use cleanser to learn more about how to wash your face.

On the other hand, if you have dry skin, blackheads on your forehead may be caused by dead skin getting trapped in your pores. In this case, gently exfoliate your skin once a week in addition to cleansing and moisturizing your skin daily.

How to Get Rid of Blackheads on Your Forehead

1. Pore Strips

Pore strips are a great go-to for removing blackheads because they’re effective and simple to use. While pore strips are most commonly used for blackheads on your nose, larger face pore strips are ideal for blackheads on your forehead. After using a pore strip, gently rinse your face with lukewarm water, and dab a Witch Hazel toner on your skin for additional cleansing.

While pore strips are most commonly used for blackheads on your nose, larger face pore strips are ideal for blackheads on your forehead.

2. Manual Extractions

Manual extractions can be another one of the more immediate ways to remove blackheads, but be careful if you’re trying to do them on your own. DIY extractions without the right tools and techniques can damage your skin and increase the severity of your blackheads. We recommend scheduling an appointment with a skincare professional.

3. Exfoliate

If your skin is dry, excess dead skin cells can get trapped in your pores. Using a gentle exfoliator is good for removing the buildup of dirt, oil, and dead skin cells (also known as pore buildup) that can lead to blackheads. A pore unclogging scrub is an excellent way to add exfoliation to your routine while not over scrubbing.

Combating Blackheads on Your Forehead

There are many treatments and practices that can help get rid of blackheads and keep dirt and oil under control. Adding the right products and changes to your skincare routine can help free your skin of blackheads.

Over-the-Counter Treatments: There are many over-the-counter treatments that will treat blackheads, clean out your pores, and remove excess oil from your skin. Try cleansing your skin twice a day with an acne clearing cleanser with Salicylic Acid and finish with a Witch Hazel toner to help shrink the appearance of your pores. When shopping for products to fight breakouts, the best products for acne contain ingredients like Salicylic Acid.

Facial Masks: For deep pore cleaning, to target the dirt and oil that can lead to blackheads, use a purifying charcoal mask 2-3 times a week. A facial mask can soothe and condition your skin and helps lift away pore-clogging dirt and oil while also detoxing your skin.

Prescription Medication: If stubborn blackheads aren’t going away with over-the-counter treatments, talk with your doctor about prescription medication. Prescription retinoids help prevent pore plugs from forming and improve skin health by promoting a more rapid turnover of skin cells.

Laser and Light Procedures: These treatments are more effective for inflammatory acne, such as pimples, but can also work for blackheads. Consult with your dermatologist to see if this treatment would be a good fit for your skin.

Chemical Peels: Many professional facials offer chemical peels as part of their treatment menu and you can also find gentle chemical peels that you can do at home. Chemical peels remove the top layers of skin to reveal smoother skin below.

Microdermabrasion: Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure offered by skincare professionals that uses a tool to sand away rough, dead skin on your face. It can help with blackheads as well as wrinkles, acne scars, and uneven skin tone.

How to Help Prevent Blackheads on Your Forehead

1. Be Diligent in Your Skincare Routine

Your forehead goes through a lot. From sun exposure to hair product residue to sweaty workouts, it’s no wonder that blackheads are appearing on your forehead. To help treat blackheads, you need to be diligent about your skincare routine. Use our skincare routine for oily skin to help find the best products for your skin!

2. Cleanse Twice a Day

For daily care, wash your face twice a day—once in the morning and once at night. Look for a cleanser that will gently target deep down in your pores in order to prevent buildup that leads to blackheads. One great option is a charcoal cleanser with salicylic acid.

3. Use a Toner

After cleansing, apply toner with Salicylic Acid for an additional blackhead-fighting kick. Using toner can help cleanse and refine your pores because it’s known for its astringent and pore cleansing properties. If you workout, excess sweat and dirt can form on your forehead, so use a cleansing cloth as soon as you can after your workout is complete.

Using toner can help cleanse and refine your pores because it’s known for its astringent and pore cleansing properties.

4. Keep Hair Out of Your Face

If you have naturally oily hair or if you use a lot of hair products, help prevent blackheads by keeping your hair out of your face. Hair product residue can easily seep down onto your forehead and clog your pores. Help prevent blackheads on your forehead by tying your hair back in a ponytail or keeping your hair off your face with a headband.

5. Moisturize Consistently

It’s also important to prevent excessive dry skin from forming on your forehead, as this build up of dead skin can clog your pores and form blackheads. Fight dryness by moisturizing and using oil-free sunscreen to hydrate your skin and protect it from harmful UV rays from the sun.

6. Use Non-Comedogenic Makeup

Certain makeup can clog your pores, so choose your products wisely and check the label when shopping. Look for makeup that describes their formulas as non-comedogenic, meaning it’s specifically designed not to clog your pores.

7. Don’t Touch!

Don’t touch your face and avoid squeezing or popping your own blackheads! You touch a lot of things during the day, so prevent excess dirt and grime from making its way onto your face by avoiding touching your face. Instead, make an appointment with a dermatologist or esthetician for professional extractions if needed.

Key Takeaways

  • Blackheads on your forehead are most commonly caused by excess oil, dead skin, makeup, and sweat.
  • If you use a lot of hair products, your forehead blackheads might be caused by product residue.
