
In the sitcom, one of the main relationship dramas is whether her character Penny will end up with Leonard (Johnny Galecki) or not, and they do end up getting over their ‘will they, won’t they’ to forge a proper relationship.
Just as the characters got together on the show, so too did their actors in real life, but the relationship wasn’t to last and the pair parted ways amicably and continued performing together.
Speaking to The Armchair Expert podcast in 2020, Cuoco said they ‘just fell mad for each other for two years’ and then broke up, but afterwards she thought that the sex scenes between their characters increased.

“Johnny and I talk about it and I think he did that on purpose — just to f**k with us.
This is a claim that The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre addressed and denied in the book The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story.
He said: “No. Not at all. Making a good show has no room for f**king with anybody.
“There’s no, ‘Let’s mess with Kaley and Johnny’. The goal was to make a great show and make every minute of every episode count. And that was the only goal.

“We don’t have that kind of freedom to risk a TV series that you put your heart and soul into to mess with somebody’s head. No.
“I think that’s charming that they think we had the mental capacity to mess with them. Penny and Leonard having difficulty sustaining a relationship was one of the reasons to keep watching – to see if they could make it.
“You were rooting for them to find happiness.”
After the book was released, Galecki said it was ‘pretty egotistical of us to think that’ scenes had been put in to mess with them.
He said: “We were reading into things a little too much. I’m going to sleep a little easier tonight.”
