Malcolm in the Middle is getting a long-awaited reboot, but there’s a reason why Dewey might not be returning.
That’s right.
Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek announced the news via a video posted on social media on 13 December and fans went wild.
With Frankie Muniz set to reprise his role of Malcolm after 18 long years, what more could we as fans ask for?
Well, it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

While we all loved watching the dysfunctional family navigate life 25 years ago, it’s just not going to be the same.
Muniz, who has opened up about the reprised role, previously said: “I have been waiting for this moment for 18 years. Let’s find out where Malcolm and his family are now.”
With four new episodes commissioned by Disney+, which shows Malcolm and his daughter being hoisted back ‘into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party’, it’s going to be the closure we all need.
The US actress shared the reason why the world hasn’t heard much from the now 33-year-old since the show’s finale.
“He’s well, he’s very, very well,” she said.
“He did Malcolm for seven years, he started at seven, he ended at 14. He wasn’t interested in acting, at all.
“He goes to school at a very prestigious American university that he’s asked us all to be quiet about and he loves Charles Dickens.
“He’s doing graduate work in Victorian literature. I admire it because so many people think being in show-business is the greatest thing in the world, it’s not for everyone.”

Even Muniz has responded to questions about what happened to his co-star, and he gave an honest answer.
Essentially, he’s not too sure.
“To be honest, I don’t know what he’s up to,” he explained. “I hate to say that because I’ve talked to him a few times since the show ended.
“I’ve talked to his parents a lot. When I was in the band, we went and played in the city where he lives and his parents came to the show but unfortunately he couldn’t make it.
“So I got to talk to them, and he’s been all over doing a lot of different things.
“But one thing I know, some actors or some people just got to do it when they were a kid and then they wanted to experience other things and kind of live a more normal life out of the spotlight.
“I think that’s what he wanted to do so good for him.”
Regarding the reboot, the actors who are involved are more than excited to enter back into the crazy world, with Cranston, who went on to break the mould with his Breaking Bad character Walter White, said he couldn’t wait to get back to it.
Kaczmarek added: “What a delight I get to yell at that kid again!
“We’re very excited about coming back together and seeing what this family has been up to.”
