Mysterious noise beneath the southern ocean that's baffled scientists for decades might have just been solved

It was first discovered in the 1980s

A group of submariners returned from the Southern Ocean with a strange story that they had heard the ocean quack.

Strange enough as it was, it turned out not to be a one-time event either.

The strange quack sound became a widespread topic and quickly earned itself the name ‘bio duck’.

In the 1980s, a team of researchers mapping the sounds of the South Fiji Basin recorded four bursts of quack-like noises.

Four years into the project in 1986, Ross Chapman from the University of Victoria joined the project and described their scepticism in a statement: “We discovered that the data contained a gold mine of new information about many kinds of sound in the ocean, including sounds from marine mammals.”

Commenting on the bizarre sound, he added: “The sound was so repeatable, we couldn’t believe at first that it was biological.”

After consulting with Australian colleagues, they found similar sounds recorded in other locations near New Zealand and Australia.

Chapman now believes the quacks were conversations between sea creatures.

“Maybe they were talking about dinner, maybe it was parents talking to children, or maybe they were simply commenting on that crazy ship that kept going back and forth towing that long string behind it,” he described.

That “crazy ship” was fitted with acoustic antennas and hydrophones which helped pinpoint where the sounds were coming from.

The unique design of the ship allowed the scientists to identify the direction the sounds were originating from which resulted in different directions all around the ship.

Chapman noticed the speakers almost took turns like people in a conversation.

“The most amazing thing was that when one speaker was talking, the others were quiet, as though they were listening. Then the first speaker would stop talking and listen to responses from others,” Chapman noted.

Strangely, none of the animals making the sounds were actually visually identified.

“The most amazing thing was that when one speaker was talking, the others were quiet, as though they were listening,” said Chapman.

“Then the first speaker would stop talking and listen to responses from others.”

Further evidence was gathered in 2014 from a study which found that the noise comes from the Antarctic minke whale.

Researchers believe the ‘bio duck’ noises’ matched the frequency and pulse patterns of the whales’ calls.

In November this year, Chapman presented his findings at the 187th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America.

“We discovered that the data contained a gold mine of new information about many kinds of sound in the ocean, including sounds from marine mammals,” he recalled at the meeting.

People speculate Elon Musk is worried about X users fleeing for Bluesky after strange change comes in

The new Twitter alternative might be making Elon sweat a little

Many are now speculating that Elon Musk is seriously worried about the Bluesky exodus after a recent feature addition to X raises eyebrows.

Elon Musk’s sporadic and often spontaneous decision making has been emblematic of his time at the helm of X (formerly Twitter) since he purchased it for $44 billion back in 2022.

Many have criticized the changes that he has brought to the platform alongside his general presence, to the point where even Grok – the AI created for use on X – has directly accused Musk of misinformation.

There have been many phoenix attempts in the wake of what many consider to be a deterioration of the platform, with alternative sites like Mastodon, cohost, and even Instagram’s own Threads showing potential.

However, none have managed to stick with users flocking back to their Twitter homes after a short while – that is, until now.

Bluesky, which was originally conceived within Twitter itself, has proven to be by far the most viable alternative for users wanting to leave X behind for good, boasting over 20 million users which includes a number of high-profile celebrities.

Some have understandably speculated that this has upset the richest man in the world, but a sudden and significant change has only further added fuel to the flame.

✨ New iOS Feature ✨ You can now hide engagement buttons and numbers below each post and interact with posts through custom swipe gestures! Give it a try! 🙈 x.com/settings/timel…
X iOS engineer May Ly announced on November 21 that a new feature for iPhones would allow users to “hide engagement buttons and numbers below each post,” effectively ‘hiding’ the like, reply, repost, and quote numbers which have become a key part of how the platform functions.

There have been rumors surrounding this change for quite a while now, but the sudden drop does seem to indicate that Musk might perhaps want to hide something.

The platforms owner did comment on the change himself, arguing: “It’s much cleaner with engagement numbers turned off. You can still see view count if you care.”

The ‘if you care’ does feel a little petulant in this instance, implying that engagement isn’t an important metric to consider – especially when Musk has modelled the platform’s creator payouts on these exact numbers.

It does also come as a stark contrast to Bluesky’s transparent analytics, as the new platform’s team are not only more than happy to share various milestones, but you can see a live day-by-day count of the overall user numbers, alongside total likes, posts, and follows.

Bluesky's interaction numbers have climbed dramatically in the last year (Bluesky)

Bluesky’s interaction numbers have climbed dramatically in the last year (Bluesky)

This shows quite a significant trend upwards for the Twitter alternative, with a dramatic increase in growth following the US election in early November, which Musk played (and continues to play) a significant role within.

This is far from the first time that similar changes have been brought to X under Musk’s leadership, with the privatization of likes being one of the most prominent, but it likely won’t be too long before this change leaves the confines of Apple devices and launches site-wide.

Aloha Airlines Flight 243’s 35-minute flight turned into a nightmare

A terrifying simulation has been created which shows just how a real-life flight managed to lose its roof with passengers onboard.

There’s a lot of scary things that happen to planes, and it doesn’t matter which stage of the flight it’s during.

There have been planes that have crashed while on the tarmac, planes that have lost their ability to tell what’s up and what’s down and have nosedived into the sea, and others that have spiralled out of control and crashed.

But what about a roof flying off?

That’s not something you hear about often.

It might be hard to imagine, but a YouTube video has shown exactly what happened during the fateful flight.

It was on 28 April, 1988, that a routine 35-minute flight from Hilo to Honolulu via Aloha Airlines turned into a nightmare.

The short flight was catapulted into mayhem when an 18-foot-long section of the upper fuselage tore off, leaving some of the 95 passengers exposed.

According to reports, the roof flew off due to the airline’s maintenance crew not detecting the significant fatigue and disbanding of the plane’s skin lap splice.

The routine flight turned into a nightmare (FAA)

The routine flight turned into a nightmare (FAA)

A National Transportation Safety Board investigation managed to find this out, which then led to the US Congress passing the Aviation Research Act, which would allow the FAA more power.

In the simulation, you can see passengers sitting in their seats when suddenly the roof blows off, taking a person onboard with it.

While the sudden decompression meant that passengers were struggling to breathe and were left freezing due to the icy winds battering the first five rows, flight attendant Clarabelle ‘C.B.’ Lansing was swept out of the aircraft and into the sky.

According to reports, the missing roof meant there was no oxygen tubing for those sitting in the affected area, leading to them becoming incapacitated by hypoxia.

Passenger William Flanigan told The Washington Post that Lansing had made a last announcement before she was ripped out of the plane while tending to passengers.

The plane was landed successfully (YouTube/SimpliHowww)

He said: “She was just handing my wife a drink.

“And then, whoosh! She was gone. Their hands just touched when it happened.”

Surprisingly, Lansing was the only fatality of the incident as Captain Robert Schornstheimer managed to make an emergency landing in Maui.

As this happened around 20 minutes into the flight, it meant that the 95 passengers and crew had to suffer through fifteen minutes of being exposed to the 300 miles per hour elements at 24,000 feet.

According to History, it was so noisy in the cockpit that the pilots were finding it hard to communicate, and the flight attendants couldn’t get in to know whether or not the pilots were alive.

“There were wires hanging all around, wrapped around me,” said Flanigan.

“I remember yelling ‘I’m being electrocuted.’ I really thought I was being burned alive.”

People online who watched the video were stunned by the real-life events.

One person wrote: “Oh boy I feel so bad for that 1 person that passed away, rest in piece. [sic]”

Another said: “dang the least you could do is acknowledge Clarabelle Lansing. The flight attendant who passed away on this flight during tragic event.”

Coffin of ‘Santa Claus’ discovered by archaeologists after 1,600 years

Archaeologists believe they may have found the original Santa Claus’ sarcophagus

A coffin has been uncovered by archaeologists in Turkey that is believed to belong to the original Santa Claus.

Now, of course, we don’t mean the sleigh-driving, reindeer-owning Santa but rather the early Christian bishop Saint Nicholas who inspired the jolly Christmas presenter-giver.

Situated in Demre, Antalya, Turkey, the St Nicholas Church has been an excavation site since 1989 for researchers, as it is believed to be the final resting place of Saint Nichols of Myra (now Demre), who passed away in 343 AD.

He was Greek, and he also inspired both Santa Claus and Sinterklaas, a similar Dutch festive figure.

History states that the bishop helped the less fortunate, going as far as to spend his inheritance on helping those in need.

Saint Nicholas also gave secret gifts, leaving coins in people’s shoes – an overall good bloke, really.

But it looks like archaeologists have stumbled across something to do with the popular religious figure.

He died and was buried at the site of his church, though Byzantine Emperor Theodosius II requested that an even bigger church be built on the same site in his honour.

To preserve his remains, they were moved into a sarcophagus that was then placed at the new church.

Saint Nick’s remains already have a lot of history behind them, after his bones were taken from his sarcophagus by Italian thieves in 1087, while sailors also took the remaining bones during the first Crusade.

Though some bones were found in Bari and Venice that matched the same person, it is unclear if it belonged to the Saint, Heritage Daily reports.

But now, in 2024, archaeologists have discovered something in the church’s two-story annexe – a limestone sarcophagus, and they believe it could belong to Saint Nicholas.

The dig was led by Ebru Fatma Findik, an Associate Professor at Hatay Mustafa Kemal University.

Researchers on site that were part of the ‘Legacy for the Future Project’ said that the stone coffin was six-feet deep, and only realised they were on a burial site when they uncovered animal bones and parts of clay lamps, the professor said to Turkiye Today.

It has not yet been confirmed if the coffin belongs to Santa Claus himself, as the location for his actual tomb has long been theorised about.

The coffin's lid has been fully unearthed (Zehra Tekeci/Anadolu via Getty Images)

Findik explained: “Some sources suggest that St. Nicholas was buried near the sacred area of the city of Myra.

“The fact that we have found a sarcophagus near the church, which is thought to house his tomb, may indicate that this is indeed the sacred area we have been searching for.

“This is a significant archaeological confirmation of historical sources regarding the burial place of St. Nicholas,” the researcher added.

So far though, only the lid has been unearthed, while a small section of the burian chamber is visible, as researchers keep searching for clues.

“Our biggest hope is to find an inscription on the sarcophagus,

“This would help clarify the burial contents and allow us to determine the exact period it dates to,” the Associate Professor highlighted, also saying that more details about their findings are expected going into the new year.

As “Cowboy Carter” continues to make waves in the music industry, Rumi’s historic achievement on the Hot 100 chart is not just a personal victory; it’s a significant moment for the Carter family’s story in music.

Read about another instance where little Rumi made headlines when she was spotted enjoying the Super Bowl festivities with her big sister and doting dad. Social media users who saw the endearing images of the trio online had a lot to say about the father and his beloved daughters.

I thought meeting my fiancé’s parents would be just another step toward our future, but one disastrous dinner revealed the truth about Richard’s world. By the end of that night, I was left with no choice but to cancel the wedding.

I never thought I’d be the type to call off a wedding. But life has a way of surprising you, doesn’t it?

I’m one of those people who prefer making big decisions after talking to my friends and family and knowing what they think about it. But this time, I just knew I had to do this.

I knew I had to cancel the wedding because what happened at the restaurant that day was something I didn’t see coming.

Before discussing that day, let me share a bit about my fiancé, Richard. I met him at work when he joined as a junior executive in accounting. I don’t know what it was, but something about him attracted me. Something that made me notice him right away.

Richard fit the definition of a handsome man. Tall, stylish hair, a warm smile, and a great sense of humor. He quickly became the office favorite, and soon, we were chatting during coffee breaks.

We started dating around seven weeks after he joined, and I realized he was everything I wanted in a partner. Confident, kind, responsible, and solution-oriented. Just the kind of man a clumsy woman like me needed.

Our relationship moved fast. WAY too fast, now that I think about it. Richard proposed just six months after we started dating, and I was so caught up in the whirlwind romance that I said yes without hesitation.

Everything about him seemed perfect, except for one thing: I hadn’t met his parents yet. They lived in another state, and Richard always had an excuse for why we couldn’t visit. But once they heard about our engagement, they insisted on meeting me.

“They’re going to love you,” Richard assured me, squeezing my hand. “I’ve booked us a table at that fancy new place downtown for Friday night.”

I spent the next few days in a panic. What should I wear? What if they didn’t like me? What if they tell Richard to leave me?

I swear I tried around a dozen outfits before settling on a classic black dress. I wanted to look sophisticated but not overdressed.

On Friday, I came home early from work and got ready. No-makeup look, cute black heels, a mini bag, and a natural hairstyle. I wanted to keep it simple but perfect for the occasion. Richard picked me up soon after.

“You look gorgeous, babe!” he said, flashing the smile I adored. “Ready?”

I nodded, trying to calm my nerves. “I really hope they like me.”

“They will, babe,” he held my hand. “After all, you’ve got everything that a parent would want to see in their child’s partner. You’re amazing inside out.”

I felt a bit relieved at that point, but I still wasn’t ready for the drama that was about to unfold.

A few minutes later, we entered the restaurant, and I thought it was stunning. Crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, and soft piano music filled the air. It was the kind of place where even the water glasses looked expensive.

We spotted Richard’s parents at a table near the window. His mother, Isabella, a petite woman with perfectly coiffed hair, stood up as we approached. Meanwhile, his father, Daniel, who seemed quite stern, remained seated.

“Oh, Richard!” his mother cooed as we approached her, completely ignoring me. She wrapped Richard in a tight hug, then held him at arm’s length. “You look so weak. Have you lost weight? Are you eating enough?”

I stood there awkwardly until Richard finally remembered me.

“Mom, Dad, this is Clara, my fiancée.”

His mother looked at me from head to toe.

“Oh yes, hello dear,” she gave a smile that was not quite reaching her eyes.

His father just grunted.

As we sat down, I tried to start a conversation.

“It’s so nice to finally meet you both. Richard has told me so much about you.”

Before either of them could respond, a waiter appeared with menus. As we looked them over, I noticed Richard’s mother leaning towards him.

“Oh, sweetie,” she said in a loud whisper, “do you want Mommy to order for you? I know how you get overwhelmed with too many choices.”

What the… I thought.

Richard was thirty years old, and Isabella was treating him like he was eight. But to my surprise, he just nodded. I thought he’d tell her to stop treating him like a baby, but I was wrong.

“Thanks, Mom,” he said. “You know what I like.”

I tried to catch Richard’s eye, but he was focused on his mother. She proceeded to order the most expensive items on the menu for both of them. Lobster, prime rib, and a $200 bottle of wine.

When it was my turn, I ordered a simple pasta dish. I was too stunned to have much of an appetite.

As we waited for our food, Daniel finally addressed me directly.

“So, Clara,” he said, his voice gruff. “What are your intentions with our son?”

I almost choked on my water. “I’m sorry?”

“Well, you’re planning to marry him, aren’t you? How do you plan to take care of him? You know he needs his clothes ironed just so, and he can’t sleep without his special pillow.”

I looked at Richard, expecting him to jump in, to tell his father this was inappropriate. But he just sat there, silent.

“I… uhh…” I stammered. “We haven’t really discussed those details yet.”

“Oh, you’ll need to learn quickly dear,” Isabella intervened. “Our Richie is very particular. He needs dinner by exactly 6 p.m. every day, and don’t even think about serving him vegetables. He won’t touch them.”

Okay, I didn’t sign up for this, I thought. What was going on? Why was Richard not saying anything to his parents? Why was he letting them treat him like a baby?

At that point, the waiter arrived with the food, momentarily saving me from having to respond. As we ate, Richard’s parents continued to fuss over him.

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Isabella cut the steak for him, while Daniel kept reminding him to use his napkin. I was stunned.

As expected, my appetite had vanished, so I just sat there, picking at my pasta. I kept thinking why I didn’t see this coming. Why had Richard been so reluctant to visit his parents’ place with me when we were dating?

All his excuses started to make sense to me now.

As the meal drew to a close, I heaved a sigh of relief thinking the worst was behind us. Not yet… the nightmare dinner had just reached its climax.

When the waiter brought the bill, Isabella snatched it up before anyone else could see it. Honestly, I thought she did that because she didn’t want me to pay out of courtesy, but what she said next made me stare at her with wide eyes.

“Well, dear, I think it’s only fair we split this 50/50, don’t you?” she smiled at me. “After all, we’re family now.”

They had ordered hundreds of dollars worth of food and wine, while I’d had a $20 pasta dish. And now they expected me to pay half? No way!

Feeling flabbergasted, I looked at Richard, silently pleading with him to say something. I expected him to stand up for me and tell his mother how ridiculous she sounded. But that man just sat there, avoiding my gaze.

In that moment, everything became crystal clear. This wasn’t just about an expensive dinner. This was my future if I married Richard. I’d be marrying his parents too.

So, I took a deep breath and stood up.

“Actually,” I began in a steady voice, “I think I’ll just pay for my own meal.”

As Richard and his parents looked at me, I pulled out my wallet and placed enough cash on the table to cover my pasta and a generous tip.

“But…” Isabella protested. “We’re family!”

“No, we’re not,” I said, looking straight into her eyes. “And we’re not going to be.”

Then, I turned to Richard, who finally met my gaze. He looked confused, as if he couldn’t understand what was happening.

“Richard,” I said softly, “I care about you. But this… this isn’t the future I want. I’m not looking for a child to take care of. I want a partner. And I don’t think you’re ready to be that.”

I slipped off my engagement ring and placed it on the table.

“I’m sorry, but the wedding is off.”

With that, I turned and walked out of the restaurant, leaving three stunned faces behind me.

As I stepped into the cool night air, I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. Yes, it hurt. Yes, it was going to be awkward at work. But I knew I’d made the right decision.

The next morning, I returned my wedding dress.

As the store clerk processed my refund, she asked if everything was okay.

I smiled, feeling lighter than I had in months. “You know what? It will be.”

As I said that, I realized the bravest thing you can do is walk away from something that’s not right for you. It might hurt in the moment, but in the long run, it’s the kindest thing you can do for yourself.

Do you agree?

Gary Sinise made a surprising move years ago when he left Hollywood. After decades in the spotlight, the actor made a life-changing decision that reshaped his priorities and led him to embrace a quieter life.

Gary Sinise, beloved for his role as Lt. Dan in “Forrest Gump,” Detective Mac Taylor in “CSI: NY,” and other acclaimed performances, made the life-altering decision to leave Hollywood and step away from acting.

From supporting his wife and late son through health battles to building a peaceful life centered on philanthropy, take a closer look at Gary’s journey over the years, including why he left Hollywood and where he is now.

In 2018, Gary’s life took a harrowing turn when his son, McCanna “Mac” Sinise, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer called chordoma. The diagnosis came just two months after the actor’s wife, Moira, was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The “Forrest Gump” star’s wife is an accomplished actress and graduate of Illinois State University. This is also incidentally where she met Gary during her college years.

The pair married in 1981, and in his book, “Grateful American,” the actor shared that their wedding, though planned for years, happened without much fanfare — they didn’t even have rings at the time.

The couple went on to welcome three children — Sophie, Mac, and Ella. Beyond motherhood, Moira enjoyed a notable career in the entertainment industry, starring in films such as “One More Saturday Night,” “Of Mice & Men,” and “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.”

She also appeared in Disney’s “Tall Tale” in 1995 and delivered an Emmy-winning performance in “Murder in Green Meadows” in 1987.

At one point, Moira was a member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, which Gary co-founded, and she made her mark in television as well. She appeared in shows like “Karen Sisco,” “The Equalizer,” and “Crime Story.”

She eventually stepped back from acting to focus on her family and philanthropic endeavors. In 2011, she joined the board of directors for the Gary Sinise Foundation.

Gary and Moira’s partnership, spanning over 40 years, became a cornerstone of their resilience as a family. Reflecting on their long marriage, Gary credited their shared sense of humor for keeping their bond strong.

“My wife’s a loving, funny, Irish-spirited person, and I’m still surprised at some of the things she says. She makes me laugh every day,” he said. Sadly, Moira and Mac’s battle against cancer consumed much of Gary’s energy.

To make matters worse, Gary’s father had recently suffered a stroke, leaving his mother in need of care. Faced with so many personal battles, he realized his priorities needed to shift. “[…] I kind of had my hands full,” the actor shared in an interview.

Fortunately, Moira’s journey ended with a victory as she went into remission and became cancer-free. However, their son’s fight was far more challenging. Mac’s condition steadily worsened, leaving him increasingly disabled.

“Our son was fighting this cancer with no cure,” Gary said. “Trying to find drugs and doctors or anybody that could do anything for him was like a full-time job. Plus, he became more and more disabled by the cancer as time went on. He needed more and more care.”

Despite the overwhelming circumstances, the actor remained committed to being by his family’s side. His dedication led him to put his acting career on hold indefinitely. “I had to stop traveling away from my family while their lives were on the line,” he explained.

Then, earlier this year, Gary faced an unimaginable loss when Mac passed away at 33 after his long battle with chordoma. The tragedy left an indelible mark on the family, but Gary found solace in sharing his son’s music with the world.

Before his passing, Mac had recorded a full album, “Resurrection & Revival: Part 2,” which was posthumously released on November 10 — a date that would have marked his 34th birthday. “This has been a real labor of very deep love,” Gary reflected.

“Because a lot of this music, I was not even aware that he had it until I discovered it on…his files,” he added. Mac, a graduate of USC Thornton School of Music, had a deep passion for drumming, composition, and songwriting.

Despite his physical challenges, which eventually left him unable to play instruments like the drums or piano, he continued to create remarkable music. He also collaborated with his father on several performances.

Gary spoke fondly of their time together, saying, “He’s just an exceptional drummer. He’s really solid, so solid, and it was always so much fun to play with him…he just had a natural talent.”

In addition to his musical pursuits, Mac served as the assistant manager of education and outreach for the Gary Sinise Foundation. He stepped down in 2020 to focus on his health, undergoing extensive rehabilitation and preparing for a fifth spinal surgery.

Gary reflected on the beauty of Mac’s work, noting how his son contributed music for films, documentaries, and even his father’s charity.

“I will say this about Mac and the album that he made last year — he had achieved something that he set out to do, which was to record all this music in May and make a full album of it…that gave me a lot of joy…just watching him kind of enjoy those moments,” he stated.

Gary’s decision to step back from Hollywood was not only driven by the practical need to support his family but also by the immense love and commitment he has for them.

The actor and his family’s decision to move further provided a more peaceful environment for their healing but also brought financial benefits.

A New Life in Tennessee

In 2021, Gary and his family decided to relocate. After decades of living in California and enjoying much success on the Hollywood acting scene, they decided it was time for a change.

In April 2022, Gary revealed during his appearance on Fox News that the move was a “family decision” after years in the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles. Gary explained that he began looking into states that might offer a better pace of life for his family.

After much consideration, they decided on Nashville, Tennessee, a city known for its strong sense of community and cultural vibrancy. Proximity to his Lt. Dan Band and a community aligned with his values further solidified the decision.

In September 2024, Gary reflected on his life in Tennessee during an interview. When asked how the state was treating him, he didn’t hesitate to express his gratitude, “I’m glad to be here. I love it. I love the state.”

The transition to Tennessee also allowed the actor to focus on his philanthropic work with the Gary Sinise Foundation. The organization, dedicated to supporting veterans and first responders, continued to thrive as Gary became more involved with his local community.

Gary Sinise’s decision to leave Hollywood and relocate to Tennessee was driven by his unwavering devotion to his family during their most challenging times. The actor’s move marked a fresh start, allowing him to prioritize what truly matters: family, community, and making a difference.

Andrew, 50, sat at his desk, shuffling through papers while juggling scheduling meetings with his partners.

He didn’t hear Michael, his assistant, enter the room. Michael stood there, waiting. After a few moments, he cleared his throat.

No response. Andrew kept working, his focus sharp. Michael tried again. “Mr. Smith.” Still no answer. He repeated his name three more times.

Finally, Andrew slammed his hands on the desk and snapped, “What?”

Michael didn’t flinch. “You asked me to tell you if your ex-wife called.”

Andrew groaned and rubbed his temples. “How many times do I have to tell you? Ignore her calls. What now?”

Michael held a notepad. “She left a message. I should warn you—it’s a direct quote. Her words, not mine.” He read from the note. “‘You pompous jerk, I will never forgive you for wasting so many years of my life. If you don’t give me back my painting, I’ll smash your car.’ That’s the message.”

Andrew’s face turned red. “We’ve been divorced for two years! Does she not have anything better to do?”

Michael looked at him, waiting for further instructions. “Should I respond to her?”

“No! And stop taking her calls,” Andrew said. Then he paused. “Actually, tell her I threw that painting in the trash!”

Andrew grabbed a pen and hurled it toward the wall. Michael ducked slightly, gave a polite nod, and left the room.

Moments later, Andrew’s phone rang. He frowned, picking it up.

“Andrew Smith?” a voice asked.

“Yes. Who’s calling?”

“This is the hospital. Your test results are ready. The doctor wants to see you.”

“Can’t you just tell me now?” Andrew said, irritated. “I’m busy.”

“Sorry, sir. The doctor will explain in person.”

Andrew sighed heavily. “Fine. I’ll come in.” He hung up, shaking his head.

Andrew rarely allowed himself the luxury of a lunch break, but this time was different. The doctor’s office was quiet, the ticking clock on the wall the only sound.

Andrew sat stiffly in a chair, his fingers tapping against the armrest. When the door opened, the doctor stepped in, his face serious. Andrew frowned, sensing bad news.

The doctor sat across from him and spoke in a steady, measured tone, using terms Andrew didn’t understand.

Then came the word—cancer. “We need to act fast,” the doctor said.

“Is this some kind of joke?” Andrew asked, his voice sharp. “I own a company. I can’t just check into a hospital.”

The doctor met his eyes. “Your health should come first. The company can wait.”

Andrew leaned forward. “What are my chances of getting better?”

“I can’t promise anything,” the doctor said. “Starting treatment right away is critical.”

Andrew’s voice rose. “Can I still work while I’m here?”

“Treatment affects everyone differently,” the doctor explained. “You will stay in the hospital so we can monitor you. Someone can bring you a computer.”

Andrew frowned and stood up. “Fine. I’ll sort it out.”

The doctor watched him leave. “We’ll see you tomorrow with your things,” he said before Andrew reached the door.

As Andrew walked through the hospital’s pediatric wing, he noticed a boy, about eight years old, tossing a ball back and forth with a nurse.

The sound of their laughter echoed in the corridor. The ball suddenly rolled across the floor and stopped near Andrew’s feet.

“Excuse me, sir!” the boy called out, smiling. “Can you please throw the ball back?”

Andrew picked up the ball, his face tense. Without a word, he hurled it down the hall, far from the boy and nurse, then turned and walked away.

“That was mean, sir!” the boy shouted.

Andrew had been in the hospital for days that felt like weeks. He tried to keep working, setting up his laptop and pushing through meetings.

But the treatment was draining. Each session left him weaker. The nausea was constant, and sleep was nearly impossible.

One afternoon, during another long chemotherapy session, Andrew leaned back, his eyes half-closed. He felt miserable.

Suddenly, a small voice broke through his fog. He opened his eyes to see a boy standing in front of him. Startled, Andrew flinched. The boy giggled. It was the same boy from the corridor.

“What do you want, kid?” Andrew mumbled, not even lifting his head.

“I’ve been walking around the hospital looking for someone to play with. It’s boring here.”

Andrew glanced at him, annoyed. “What’s your name?” he asked.

“Tommy,” the boy replied with a wide grin.

Andrew sighed. “Listen, Tommy. I’m not in the mood to play. Go bother someone else before I start feeling worse.”

Tommy didn’t move. Instead, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small peppermint candy. He held it out to Andrew. “This helps with nausea. You should try it.”

Andrew hesitated, then snatched the candy and set it on the table.

“You’re really grumpy!” Tommy said, laughing. “I’m going to call you Mr. Grouch. Are you mad because you’re scared of needles?” He pointed at the IV attached to Andrew’s arm.

Andrew frowned. “I’m not scared of anything.”

Tommy nodded. “That’s fine. I was scared at first too, but then I stopped. My mom says I’m a superhero. Do you have a superpower?”

“No,” Andrew said, his voice flat.

“That’s because you’re too sad,” Tommy replied, his tone serious now.

Andrew looked at the boy, surprised by the honesty in his big, bright eyes. “Is there anything you want?” Andrew asked.

Tommy grinned. “Yeah. I want to buy flowers for my mom. She works really hard, but I don’t have any money.”

Andrew sighed again, reached for his wallet, and pulled out a few bills. “Here. Get your flowers. Maybe buy yourself something too. But leave me alone.”

Tommy’s face lit up. “Thanks, Mr. Grouch!” He ran out, clutching the money, while Andrew stared at the peppermint candy on the table.

With a sigh, he picked it up, unwrapped it, and popped it into his mouth. To his surprise, the sharp sweetness helped ease the nausea. It wasn’t much, but it made a difference for a while.

That evening, as Andrew stared at his laptop, a nurse knocked on his door.

She carried a small paper bag. “This is for you,” she said, placing it on the table. “Tommy sent it.”

Andrew opened the bag and found it full of peppermint candies. He shook his head, unsure whether to feel amused or moved.

The next morning, he decided to find Tommy. He needed to make one thing clear: the money wasn’t a gift.

As he approached Tommy’s room, he saw a woman leaning against the wall, her shoulders shaking. She was crying.

“Are you okay?” Andrew asked, his voice low.

The woman wiped her eyes quickly and looked up. “Yes… Did you need something?”

“Tommy gave me some candies yesterday,” Andrew said.

The woman’s lips curved into a small smile. “Oh, so you’re Mr. Grouch,” she said.

Andrew raised an eyebrow. “My name’s Andrew,” he replied.

“I’m Sara,” she said. “Are you here for treatment too?”

Andrew nodded.

“Then you understand,” Sara said quietly. “The bills, the stress. I can’t even pay rent right now. They told me we’ll be evicted in two months.”

Andrew nodded again, unsure of what to say. Before he could respond, the door burst open. Tommy ran out, his face lighting up when he saw Andrew. “Hey, Mr. Grouch!” he called, grinning ear to ear.

From that day forward, Tommy became a constant presence in Andrew’s life.

The boy would wander into Andrew’s room with a big grin and endless energy. At first, Andrew found it annoying, but Tommy’s persistence wore him down.

Soon, Andrew began looking forward to the visits. Tommy taught him to notice the simple joys in life.

They sat by the window, watching the sunset, guessing the colors in the sky. They played harmless pranks on nurses, earning scolding looks and stifled smiles.

Sometimes, they “borrowed” wheelchairs and raced down the halls, laughing until their sides hurt.

Andrew didn’t ask about Tommy’s illness. He wasn’t sure how to bring it up. One afternoon, Tommy mentioned Sara had been crying again. “She’s worried about money,” Tommy said. “We might lose our house.”

Andrew quietly gave Tommy an envelope of cash. “Tell her it’s from a magician,” he said.

When Sara tried to return the money, Andrew waved her off. “I’m not a magician,” he said. “I don’t know where it came from.”

Weeks passed. Andrew’s treatments worked, and the day came when the doctor gave him the news—he was cancer-free.

Ecstatic, Andrew rushed to share it with Tommy. But when he arrived, Tommy was unconscious, Sara sitting beside him, tears streaming down her face.

“What happened?” Andrew asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Sara wiped her eyes and shook her head. “The doctors said there’s nothing more they can do.”

Andrew stared at her, struggling to process the words. “But… he seemed so happy. He always smiled. I thought he was improving.”

Sara looked at him, her face full of pain. “He didn’t want you to see how sick he was. He wanted to be strong for you. He thought he was a superhero.”

Andrew’s chest tightened. “I’m so sorry.”

Sara managed a faint smile through her tears. “Don’t be. He said you saved him. These months, you gave him laughter and hope. You made him forget about being sick.”

Andrew shook his head slowly. “No. He’s the one who saved me.”

He stepped closer and wrapped his arms around her in a gentle hug. She cried quietly against his shoulder, and though Andrew wished he could take her pain away, he knew nothing would ever truly ease it.

That night, Tommy passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his mother and the memories he had made.

Andrew sat alone in his room afterward, overwhelmed by the loss. Andrew couldn’t bear the thought of such a bright soul being forgotten.

Determined, he started a foundation in Tommy’s name to help sick children, ensuring his kindness would live on.

He also stayed in touch with Sara, offering her support in every way he could.

“I’m not here to argue,” Andrew said, his tone calm as he held out the painting.

The popular movie features Hilary Swank, This Is Us star Justin Hartley and Emma Roberts

A horror movie is loved so much by film fans that they’re watching it twice.

There are many great horror movies that have been released over the years – The Shining remaining as one of the top, alongside the likes of Alien, Saw, and Get Out.

But there’s one lesser-known movie that was released in 2020 that people are still loving to this day, and it boasts a pretty impressive cast.

The likes of Hilary Swank, Emma Roberts, Justin Hartley and Ike Barinholtz all feature in the film, as well as My Name Is Earl favorite Ethan Suplee.

Emma Roberts stars in a horror that's been hailed as the 'best movie ever' (Universal Pictures)

What’s the movie called, I hear you ask? The Hunt.

A synopsis for the movie given on IMDb reads: “Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don’t know they’ve been chosen – for a very specific purpose.”

That specific purpose is to be hunted like animals by another group of people for sport.

In recent days, someone took to Facebook group Netflix Bangers to ask people their thoughts on The Hunt and whether it was worth a watch or not.

“Watch it ASAP,” one person replied.

“Definitely 10 out of 10 on this one,” raved another, as a different person branded it as a ‘brilliant film’.

Someone else continued: “So good very entertaining! Pop some popcorn sit back and enjoy, a little gory but it’s violent.”

Elsewhere someone enjoyed it so much that they recently rewatched it.

They said: “Watched for the second time yesterday!! It’s entertaining and a great movie.”

Another horror fan hailed The Hunt as the ‘best movie [they’ve] ever watched’.

While The Hunt is not on Netflix, it is available to stream of Freevee.

A newer horror movie to have hit cinemas in recent days is Amy Adams’ Nightbitch.

In the film, the actress is a stay-at-home mom who quit her art career to take care of her child.

But she grows tired of living a some-what mundane life and her maternal, animalistic instincts come out and she starts turning into a dog (only at night, of course).

But whether she really turns into a dog or not is down to the viewer’s own interpretation, says Nightbitch director Marielle Heller.

“I think it’s kind of nice if everybody gets to make their own conclusion,” Heller told UNILAD.

“I sort of love the ambiguity that I felt in the book when I read Rachel’s book. And so the aim of the movie was also to not fill in all of the answers for you, but I’ll leave a certain amount of that up to discussion.”

Doctor reveals which body part visible to everyone exposes the size of someone's penis

Doctor reveals which body part visible to everyone exposes the size of someone’s penis

It’s been a long-standing belief that hands and feet indicate the size of someone’s penis

A sexual health expert has revealed which body part can shed some insight into the size of someone’s, erm, private parts – and it might not be what you expect.

It’s a touchy subject, there’s no doubt about that.

There have been many studies done on penis size, but how accurate they are depends on how honest participants involved have really been.

But for perhaps a more accurate reading, a doctor has been speaking about the one visible body part that seems to indicate the size of someone’s penis.

Jada Pinkett Smith confirms separation from Will Smith
It’s a common belief that someone’s hands and feet indicate the size of their manhood – though that is very much an age-old tale.

Dr. Rena Malik set the record straight on the Diary of a CEO podcast earlier this year, and it’s she claims it’s another body part entirely that links to penis size.

Dr Rena Malik has debunked the age-old myth (YouTube/Diary of a CEO)

“There’s one study — it’s a Japanese study where they looked at only Japanese men so there are some limitations — but they measured all these body parts and penile length and they found that nose length was correlated with penile length, not hand length or foot,” she explained.

The expert didn’t go further on whether she has seen or even been involved in studies linking nose and penis size, though she did claim to have seen an increase in men concerned about the size of their penis.

Malik went on to say that a survey done with 50,000 heterosexual men found 45 percent were unhappy with the way their penis looks.

The topic was all about sex on the Steven Bartlett-hosted podcast, with Malik also touching on how much sex a couple should be having.

She said: “There’s no ideal number, but when you look at studies which have looked at large numbers of people, people who are in partnered relationships are having sex about once a week on average.

“If they’re in partnered relationships where sex is always available, but it’s so variable person to person.

“What I really like to say is it’s not the quantity of sex that matters, it’s the quality of sex.

“If you’re having good sex once a month that may be sufficient for you rather than having mediocre or bad sex four times a month, or 10 times a month even.
