VIVIZ on K-pop idol life: “This job is about music and performances, but at the core, there are people”

After starting over as a trio, Eunha, SinB, and Umji are now firmly in charge of their own futures. The K-pop idols tell NME about their new mini-album ‘Voyage,’ how challenges can be blessings in disguise and tease the return of GFRIEND

Almost a decade ago, in September 2015, then-rookie girl group GFRIEND went viral because of a misfortune. While performing their single ‘Me Gustas Tu’ under a heavy rainstorm, multiple members repeatedly slipped and even fell on the wet stage. But the setback turned out to be a blessing: Girl gained global attention for their resilience, getting back up time and time again, diligently finishing the performance to roaring applause.

The song would go on to become their breakout hit, and from then on, the sextet became a household name in K-pop—that is, until they suddenly left their label in 2021 and stopped releasing music. However, that “end,” as the group’s leader described it at the time, also came with a windfall. The year after, three members of GFRIEND—Eunha, SinB, and Umji—reunited and embarked on a new journey together as power trio VIVIZ.

“You never know, mistakes can also turn into opportunities; it’s all about the journey that you take,” says Umji over a video call with NME. It’s a fitting adage for the trio, who have since taken on a series of new challenges. Among them are a notable third place on season two of South Korean reality TV competition Queendom, holding their first world tour and releasing five mini-albums, including the latest, ‘Voyage’, which came out earlier this month.

“We debuted [as friends] when we were very young, so it felt like we were solely following the company’s concept, and that fit the group at the time,” says SinB, who is seated on Umji’s right side. “But as VIVIZ, it feels like we are doing everything from one to 10.” Upon hearing that statement, Eunha, who is on the opposite side, chimes in. “Make that one to nine; we have to give one for the company,” she jokes, prompting laughs from the whole room.

While VIVIZ have the refreshing energy of newcomers, they are also seasoned veterans with nearly a decade of experience under their belts. Working together for such a long time brings forward a unique connection, even if it doesn’t show at first sight. When looking back on their debut with Girlfriend, they all agree that not only have they matured, but the K-pop industry has also changed substantially.

“This job, like many others, is about human relations. It is about music and performances and singing, but at the core, there are people,” says Umji. “You gain experience on how to problem-solve and how to care for one another. And when some things hurt, how do you deal with that? How do you grow up and move forward during those times?”

To SinB, starting over as VIVIZ has been the biggest challenge so far, one that they are still “in the process of overcoming.” Though she believes that, as more and more people get to know about them, VIVIZ are slowly proving themselves. “VIVIZ is so important and so precious to us. It is our pursuit,” she says defiantly.

At the same time, though, the trio still holds their memories of GFRIEND close—and, as recently announced, they will soon be reuniting with their old bandmates for the group’s tenth anniversary next year. “We just want to show that we’ve been working hard, discussing and planning this,” Eunha hints. Even though there’s not much the trio can “publicly talk about” during their chat with NME, they tell fans to “look forward to it.”.

VIVIZ hold a symbiotic relationship with their label, BPM Entertainment, and are involved in every detail of their projects and records. “Normally, they ask us what kind of styles we want to try,” explains SinB. “Even if we don’t have a specific concept in mind, we have discussions and build it up from there, because they cater [to anything] we have in mind.”

“Even if we have a concept that we want to pursue, it’s important that we first ask the company, ‘Hey, what kind of stuff do you think we should try?’” adds Umji. “While we value our own perspective, we love to have some outside input. We’re open to a lot of stuff, and we want to really broaden our horizons as a group.”

For their latest single, the cheeky ‘Shhh!’, it was their agency that first suggested looking into Latin pop before presenting a variety of potential songs for the trio to run through. “We considered the recording and the performance and how we could appropriately do it to convey Latin pop but make it VIVIZ’s style,” says Umji.

‘Voyage’ stands as the culmination of this teamwork, with Umji saying that the level of perfection and details they had to look into was “quite high.” “That’s the thing about us,” she continues, “Some people are like, ‘As long as my part is good, it’s going to be fine.’ However, we give honest feedback [to each other] and we don’t only look at the final product but at the big picture. This process makes a difference.”

Sitting right in the middle of the table and taking the lead on much of the conversation, Umji is the glue between her bandmates. While SinB is known for her iconic poker face and skilled dance moves, Eunha is an arresting vocalist with an extra-sweet personality. Umji, though, is a mix of both—or what fans would call an “all-rounder”—a talented dancer and a compelling singer, a cutie pie at one moment and a mischievous instigator on another.

Umji was also a late bloomer when it came to creative work—SinB and Eunha had started to co-write songs during their time as members of GFRIEND—but she has since grown into her own and notably was the first to place credits in VIVIZ’s discography. On their latest mini-album, Umji’s the sole lyricist on two of the project’s five songs: ‘Hypnotized’ and ‘Love & Tears’, the latter of which she also co-composed.

“While I was writing [‘Love & Tears’], I was exhausted because I wanted to do really well. So, I realised I needed to refresh myself, and I worked on ‘Hypnotize’ to take my mind off of it,” she reveals. “It felt like a fresh breeze. People say to me, like, ‘It must have been tough to work on both tracks at the same time,’ but it works way better, and it was actually easier.”

Eunha explains that the lyrics for their songs are chosen through a blind test among the members, recalling how Umji was curiously quiet when they unknowingly picked her hard-wrought creations. “[Me and SinB] were like, ‘Why would she be so silent?’ It turns out both the lyrics we liked were written by Umji,” she says. “I just want to emphasize how great she is.”

“I swear, that was one of my best moments for this year, really,” Umji exclaims. “I was quiet, but my heart was like boom,” she says, mimicking fireworks with her hands.

This instance is just one of many that attest to VIVIZ’s unfailing synergy and why they continue to blossom in an industry as fast-paced as K-pop. “Working as a trio has a great charm; it’s like the best of both solo and group,” Umji says. “If you listen to our music, you really feel the chemistry. If you watch our performances, you see the teamwork. But we’re also highlighting the individual characteristics of all of us. I just love it.”

Noel Gallagher says Oasis reunion shows “won’t be as raucous as back in the day”

Noel Gallagher says Oasis reunion shows “won’t be as raucous as back in the day”

“There won’t be any fallout; there won’t be any fighting.”

Noel Gallagher has claimed that the 2025 Oasis reunion shows will not be “as raucous as back in the day.”.

The Britpop legends revealed their highly-awaited return to the stage earlier this year, announcing a string of huge stadium gigs in the UK and Ireland to take place next summer. That was then followed by the announcement of dates in North America, South America, Australia, South Korea, and Japan.

Noel was asked about the shows while attending the ‘Zoë Law: Legends’ exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London on Thursday (November 28), specifically whether he believed he and brother Liam would behave as wildly as they did in their ‘90s heyday.

“No, it won’t be as raucous as back in the day, because we’re on the wrong side of 50 now, so we’re too old,” he said (via The Sun).

“We’re too old to give a shit now, so there won’t be any fallouts; there won’t be any fighting. It’s a lap of honour for the band.”

Following the revelation that they’d be returning, Oasis ruled out a headline performance at Glastonbury 2025 and said they won’t be appearing at any other festivals next summer. Liam and Noel have also shot down rumours of a return to Knebworth in 2026 too.

The band have announced that Cage The Elephant will be serving as opening support on their North American leg while former Verve frontman and soloist Richard Ashcroft and Cast will be joining the Mancunian icons on their UK and Ireland dates.

In other news, Liam recently went back on his claims that the band is currently recording a new album, telling fans “it was a laugh.”.

He’d been teasing a potential new LP since September, when one fan asked, “Is it true that Oasis will have a new album???” before Liam replied, “Yep, it’s already finished.” He also responded to a fan asking if a new record was “in the air,” to which he said, “It’s in the bag, mate, fuck the air.”.

Then, earlier this month, he told fans on Twitter/X that he was “blown away” by the material Noel had written for the record. A comment he made back in April also resurfaced after the comeback announcement, in which he suggested Oasis would be recording a new album in November.

However, he’s since dismissed rumours, saying there’s “no Oasis album in the making,” adding, “I was fucking joking, remember them, and the reason being because everyone is a little uptight these days. I’m sorry if I have upset anyone, but fuck me, it was a laugh.”

Liam also responded to recent comments from Sex Pistols’ Glen Matlock that Oasis are “boring.” Writing on X, Liam replied, “FUCK HIM SID WAS THE PISTOLS.”

My Fiancé’s Little Daughter Objected at Our Wedding, ‘Daddy, Don’t Marry Her, You Already Have a Wife’

I always dreamed of a wedding day filled with joy, love, and excitement, and as I walked down the aisle, I thought that dream was coming true.

The soft glow of candlelight illuminated the room, mingling with the scent of fresh roses. Jonathan stood at the altar, looking as handsome as the day we met.

It had been three years since we first crossed paths at a friend’s barbecue. I wasn’t looking for love, but Jonathan’s warmth and easygoing nature pulled me in.

What began as casual conversations about work and books soon became long evenings filled with laughter. We clicked instantly, and within months, I couldn’t imagine my life without him.

One evening, not long after we started dating, Jonathan dropped a bombshell over dinner.

“Abigail, there’s something you need to know,” he confessed. “I have a daughter. Her name’s Mia, and she’s four. I need you to think about whether you’re ready for that. Because if this doesn’t work for you, I’d rather know now.”

“A daughter?” I echoed. “You have a daughter?”

The thing is, I hadn’t seen this coming. It was not because I thought Jonathan was hiding anything, but because we’d been so caught up in the whirlwind of getting to know each other that it hadn’t even crossed my mind.

“She’s my world, Abigail,” he said. “I don’t want you or her to be unhappy. If you need time to think this over, that’s okay. I just… I need to be upfront about it.”

I could see the vulnerability in his eyes. I could sense that he was preparing himself for rejection.

“I need to think about this,” I said carefully. “Not because I’m unsure about how I feel about you, but because I want to be sure I can give her, and you, what you deserve.”

“That’s all I can ask. Take your time.”

Over the next few days, I couldn’t stop thinking about Jonathan’s words. I pictured a little girl with Jonathan’s warm eyes and wondered what her life had been like. Would she welcome me, or would she see me as an intruder? Was I ready to take on the role of a stepmom?

When I finally made up my mind, I asked Jonathan to meet me at our favorite coffee shop.

As he sat down, I took a deep breath and said, “Jonathan, I’m in this for the long haul. If Mia is part of the package, then I want to meet her.”

“Thank you, Abigail,” he smiled, feeling absolutely relieved. “That means the world to me.”

“When can I meet her?” I asked.

Jonathan chuckled.

“How about this weekend?” he suggested. “She’s been asking about you ever since I told her I was seeing someone.”

The following Saturday, I found myself standing outside Jonathan’s house, holding a small bag of cookies I’d baked the night before.

My heart was racing as he opened the door with Mia peeking out from behind his leg.

“Abigail, this is Mia,” Jonathan said warmly, stepping aside.

Mia’s bright eyes studied me for a moment before she smiled shyly.

“Hi,” she said, clutching a stuffed bunny to her chest.

“Hi, Mia,” I replied, kneeling to her level. “I made these cookies for you. I hope you like chocolate chip.”

“I love chocolate chip!” she exclaimed, taking the bag from my hands.

From that moment, the ice was broken.

Within minutes, Mia was showing me her favorite toys, dragging me to her playroom, and peppering me with questions. Jonathan watched us from the doorway, and his face told me he was super happy.

“She likes you,” he said later that evening as Mia dozed off on the couch.

“I like her too,” I said, smiling. “She’s incredible, Jonathan.”

So, while becoming a stepmom wasn’t something I had ever imagined for myself, I couldn’t deny that Mia had already claimed a piece of my heart.

When Jonathan proposed a year ago, Mia had squealed with delight.

“You’re gonna be my mommy!” she’d said, hugging my legs tightly.

From that moment, I thought we were on the same page, building a happy little family together.

Fast forward to today, I felt incredibly happy seeing Mia beaming in her flower girl dress.

Everything was going well until the officiant began the ceremony.

“If anyone objects to this union, speak now or forever hold your peace,” he said.

The room fell silent, save for the faint rustle of someone shifting in their chair. I expected the moment to pass uneventfully. Instead, Mia’s small voice rang out, clear as a bell.

“You can’t marry her, Daddy!”

A gasp swept through the room, and my heart plummeted.

I turned to Mia, stunned. “Sweetheart, what did you say?”

Mia stood up from her seat and looked at Jonathan.

“Daddy, don’t marry her,” she said. “You already have a wife.”

I whipped my head toward Jonathan, expecting an immediate denial, but his expression mirrored my confusion.

“Mia,” he said gently, “what are you talking about?”

Mia pointed to the large glazed window at the back of the room. “She’s right there!”

Every head turned toward the window, where a shadowy figure waved at us. I couldn’t understand what was happening. Who was that? Could Mia be telling the truth?

I crouched to Mia’s level, keeping my voice calm despite the whirlwind in my chest. “Sweetheart,” I asked, “who is that? What do you mean, Daddy already has a wife?”

Mia nodded.

“That’s Daddy’s wife,” she said with certainty.

Jonathan stepped closer to the window, squinting into the fading light.

“I… I don’t understand,” he muttered.

“Jonathan,” I said. “what is going on? Who is she?”

“Abigail, I swear I have no idea what Mia’s talking about. Mia,” he said, crouching to her level, “sweetheart, who is that outside?”

Mia tilted her head, her expression serious but calm. “It’s your wife, Daddy. She came to the wedding.”

I heard everyone gasp in harmony.

“Jonathan, is there something you haven’t told me?” I asked.

“Abigail, no. I don’t… just let me see who that is,” he said before walking away from the altar.

My heart pounded against my chest as I stood there.

The murmurs in the room grew louder as he stepped outside and closed the door behind him.

Through the window, I could just barely make out Jonathan speaking to the figure. I watched as his body language shifted from tense to… was that amusement?

I turned to look at Mia, who was now sitting calmly as if she hadn’t just turned the entire ceremony upside down.

Minutes later, the door creaked open, and Jonathan walked back in, smiling. Beside him was a familiar face.

It was Dani, Mia’s former nanny, holding something in her hands.

My confusion deepened. “Dani?” I exclaimed, my voice rising slightly. “What are you doing here?”

Dani stepped forward, her own grin matching Jonathan’s as she held up a pink teddy bear.

“What is that supposed to mean?” I asked, glancing between the two of them.

Jonathan chuckled, shaking his head as though he couldn’t believe the situation himself.

“Abigail,” he said, motioning to the bear, “meet Mrs. Fluff.”

“What?” I asked, feeling even more lost than before.

“Mrs. Fluff,” Jonathan said, glancing at Mia. “When Mia was three, she decided this teddy bear was my wife. It was this little game we used to play where she’d marry me to the bear, and we’d all laugh. I haven’t thought about it in years.”

Mia clapped her hands, delighted.

“She’s your wife, Daddy! You can’t marry Abi if you’re already married to Mrs. Fluff!”

Dani laughed, clearly trying to suppress her amusement. “Mia’s been watching prank videos on YouTube. She wanted to pull a ‘wedding surprise,’ and, well, I couldn’t resist helping her.”

The room erupted into laughter as Dani finished her explanation.

Guests who had been whispering in confusion moments earlier were now wiping tears of mirth from their eyes.

I looked at Mia, who was smiling.

“Mia,” I said, fighting the urge to both laugh and scold, “do you know how scared you made me?”

“It was funny, Abi!”

Jonathan scooped her up, shaking his head in amusement.

“Young lady,” he began. “You’ve got a lot of explaining to do.”

Mia giggled, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Daddy, you’re not mad, are you?”

Jonathan kissed her forehead and sighed. “How can I be? But no more pranks at weddings, okay?”

“Okay,” Mia said sweetly, though the mischievous twinkle in her eyes made me wonder just how long that promise would last.

I turned to Dani, who was leaning casually against the wall, clearly enjoying the chaos she’d helped create. “Dani, you’re lucky this turned out to be funny. I’d almost started crying.”

“I know, I know,” Dani said, holding up her hands in mock surrender. “Mia’s been planning this for weeks. She kept saying, ‘Daddy’s going to be so surprised!’ and I couldn’t resist. Besides, Mrs. Fluff deserved to make a comeback.”

That’s when the officiant cleared his throat.

“Shall we continue, now that the matter of the ‘first wife’ has been resolved?” he asked.

Jonathan placed Mia gently back in her seat and turned to me.

I smiled, squeezing his hand. “Ask me again after the vows.”

The ceremony resumed, and though the day hadn’t gone exactly as planned, it was unforgettable. As we exchanged rings, I glanced at Mia, who gave me a cheeky thumbs-up from her seat.

As Jonathan and I danced later that evening, I leaned in close and whispered, “You know, this might not have been the wedding I imagined, but I think it was even better.”

He grinned, spinning me gently. “What can I say? Life with Mia is always going to be a little unpredictable.”

“And a lot of fun,” I added, as I caught sight of Mia dancing with Dani in the middle of the floor, still clutching Mrs. Fluff.

Brain stimulation effectiveness tied to learning ability, not age

Main finding. Credit: npj Science of Learning (2024). DOI: 10.1038/s41539-024-00278-y

As we age, our cognitive and motor functions deteriorate, which in turn affects our independence and overall quality of life. Research efforts to ameliorate or even completely abolish this have given rise to technologies that show a lot of promise.

Among these is non-invasive brain stimulation: a term encompassing a set of techniques that can affect brain functions externally and noninvasively, without the need for surgery or implants. One such promising technique, in particular, is anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (atDCS), which uses a constant, low electrical current delivered via electrodes on the scalp to modulate neuronal activity.

However, studies exploring atDCS have produced inconsistent results, which has prompted researchers to explore why some people benefit from atDCS while others don’t. The problem seems to lie in our understanding of factors that may influence responsiveness to brain stimulation, leading to responders and non-responders; among these, age has been suggested as one important factor.

Some studies suggest further factors such as baseline behavioral abilities and previous training might be important considerations, but an interplay of these factors with behavior has not been determined in detail, pointing to the need for refined predictive models of the effects of atDCS.

Now, scientists led by Friedhelm Hummel at EPFL have identified an important factor affecting an individual’s responsiveness to atDCS. The team looked at how native learning abilities determine the effect of brain stimulation applied while learning a motor task.

Their work has been published in npj Science of Learning.

Their findings suggest that individuals with less efficient learning mechanisms benefit more from stimulation, while those with optimal learning strategies might experience negative effects.

The researchers recruited 40 participants: 20 middle-aged adults (50-65 years old) and 20 older adults (over 65). Each group was further divided into those receiving active atDCS and those receiving placebo stimulation.

Over ten days, participants practiced a finger-tapping task designed to study motor sequence learning at home while receiving atDCS. The task involved replicating a numerical sequence using a keypad, trying to be as fast and as accurate as possible.

The team then used a machine-learning model trained on a public dataset to classify participants as either “optimal” or “suboptimal” learners, based on their initial performance. This model aimed to predict who would benefit from atDCS, based on their ability to integrate information about the task efficiently early during training

The study found that suboptimal learners, who were seemingly less efficient at internalizing the task at the early stages of learning, experienced an accelerated accuracy improvement while performing the task when receiving atDCS. This effect was not limited to people of a certain age (e.g., older adults), with suboptimal learners being found among younger individuals as well.

In contrast, participants with optimal learning strategies, regardless of age, even showed a negative trend in performance when receiving atDCS. This difference suggests that brain stimulation is more beneficial for individuals who initially struggle with motor tasks. As such, atDCS seems to possess a restorative rather than an enhancing quality, with important implications for rehabilitation.

“By leveraging different methods in machine learning, we were able to untangle the influence of different factors on the individual effects of brain stimulation,” says Pablo Maceira, the study’s first author. “This will pave the way to maximize the effects of brain stimulation in individual subjects and patients.”

The study implies that, in the long run, personalized brain stimulation protocols will be developed to maximize benefits based on an individual’s specific needs, rather than a common trait such as age.

This approach could lead to more effective brain stimulation-based interventions, targeting specific mechanisms supporting learning, especially from the view of neurorehabilitation, for which the main basis is the re-learning of lost skills due to a brain lesion (e.g., after a stroke or a traumatic brain injury).

“In the future, clinicians could apply a more advanced version of our algorithm to determine whether a patient will benefit from a brain stimulation-based therapy, to enhance the effects of neurorehabilitation and personalize treatment,” says Hummel.

Intense ‘Yellowstone’ Preview Promises Chaos In New Episode: WATCH

The upcoming episode of “Yellowstone” looks like it’s going to be very dark and sinister.

Episode 12—titled “Counting Coup” – of the final season of the legendary Western aga from Taylor  Sheridan airs Sunday night on the Paramount Network.

There are only three episodes remaining in the show, and fans can’t wait to see how it ends.  Theories are flying around, and the alleged ending already leaked online (you can read the alleged ending that leaked here).

preview for latest “Yellowstone” episode is incredibly intense

Well, it looks like “Yellowstone” fans are certainly in for a wild ride Sunday night, judging from the preview for the episode.

It appears Beth and Kayce are on the hunt for blood, and they’re looking to get it from Jamie. Buckle up because Sarah Atwood’s death was only the first domino to fall.

Give it a watch below, and let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

Do we think all hell is going to break loose, or do we think all hell is going to break loose? The answer is obvious and yes.

It’s very clear Kayce, once again, is going to confront Jamie. We saw that in the last episode, and it appears he’s going to press him for answers…perhaps under the threat of death.

After all, we all know Kayce has zero issue killing anyone he views as a threat. The other option is that this is all some selective editing, and we’re being played for fools.

Landmarks across the county of Los Angeles will light up in red Sunday to commemorate World AIDS Day 2024, representing a collective commitment to ending the epidemic.

This Sunday marks the 36th annual World AIDS Day, with this year’s theme being “Collective Action: Sustain and Accelerate HIV Progress.”

The L.A. County Department of Public Health encourages residents to learn more about HIV and available free, low-cost, and life-saving medication and services.

County officials said eight landmarks will light up red:

  • Paramount Pictures’ Studio Water Tower;
  • Petersen Automotive Museum;
  • Rose Bowl Stadium;
  • Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s John Ferraro Building;
  • The Ritz-Carlton Los Angeles;
  • Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center;
  • Los Angeles Union Station; and
  • The Queen Mary and The Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach

About 52,000 people with HIV live in the county, and an estimated 1,400 new HIV infections are reported each year, according to DPH. A disproportionate number of cases are seen among gay men, African Americans, Latinos, and transgender individuals.

“This year’s theme of collective action is central to the spirit of World AIDS Day and to our goals,” Barbara Ferrer, director of DPH, said in a statement. “We are committed to working with multisector partners to end transmission of HIV and create a future where every person affected by HIV receives the support they need.”

As part of its Ending the HIV Epidemic Initiative, DPH provides more than 35 HIV-related programs and partners with organizations for outreach and education, community-based HIV/STD testing, linkage to care, intensive street-based case management, and clinic-based services.

Mario Pérez, director of DPH’s division of HIV and STD programs, added that residents with HIV can visit getprotectedla.com for HIV-related information and services.

Meanwhile, The Wall las Memorías, a nonprofit, will host its Noche de las Memorías to honor the lives lost to AIDS. This year marks the 20th anniversary of its monument, which features six murals depicting life with AIDS in the Latino community and two granite panels that contain more than 1,600 names of people who died from the disease.

The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. with 3,000 candles lit around the lake at Lincoln Park, located at 3600 N. Mission Road, followed by testimonials from families at 6:30 p.m. and a fireworks show at 7:30 p.m.

David Archuleta, singer and 2008 American Idol runner-up, will perform at 7 p.m. and share his journey of self-discovery, identity, and faith with other young Latinos who are looking for the courage to live their lives openly and authentically.

Latinos are impacted by AIDS more than any other group in L.A. County and the nation, according to The Wall las Memorías.

Two events are planned Sunday in West Hollywood.

At 2 p.m., the City of West Hollywood will join Stories: The AIDS Monument and APLA Health in a World AIDS Day event at the West Hollywood Park Aquatic and Recreation Center Respite Deck, 8750 El Tovar Place, adjacent to West Hollywood Library.

Afterward, at 3:30 p.m., the Lavender Effect will host a launch and reception for the “Young City at War” exhibit, which will be featured under the Grand Staircase at West Hollywood Park, 647 N. San Vicente Blvd. The exhibit features stories from West Hollywood during the AIDS epidemic of the 80s and 90s, focusing on the story of a diverse community’s response to the early days of HIV/AIDS.

The public installation honors people past and present who were at the forefront of the fight against the disease and showcases the power of community.

World AIDS Day raises awareness about HIV/AIDS, celebrates progress against the disease, and honors and supports impacted communities.

Globally, an estimated 88.4 million people have acquired HIV since the start of the epidemic in the early 1980s. Almost 40 million people around the world are currently living with HIV, and more than 42 million people have died from AIDS-related illnesses since the start of the epidemic, DPH reported.

In 2023, worldwide, approximately 630,000 people died from HIV, and an estimated 1.3 million people became newly infected with HIV.

It breaks our hearts to confirm the news about the great Jay Leno, 74

After decades of holding the spotlight as the host of late-night TV, Jay Leno is preparing for his final curtain call. The 74-year-old auto enthusiast is making end-of-life arrangements and leaving behind a chunk of cash to a museum that honors cars, a passion that almost killed him twice. Keep reading to learn what the comedian is planning!

After leaving behind his successful career as the host of late-night talk shows, Jay Leno launched a web series on nbc.com (2015–2022) about cars.

Jay Leno’s Garage, now appearing to more than 3.7 million subscribers on YouTube, allows the comedian to share his passion for cars and bikes with his audience.

In November 2022, the former Tonight Show host was badly burned when a fire broke out in his Burbank, California, garage.

“I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire.” Leno told Variety at the time, “I am OK. I just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”

According to reports, the now-74-year-old man was working under a car when the fire sparked. He suffered third-degree burns on his face and got a new left ear after losing his first one to the fire.

Unfortunately, his luck didn’t get any better.

Only two months after the fire, he suffered a broken collarbone, two cracked ribs, and two cracked kneecaps in a motorcycle accident.

‘Treats Mavis like gold’

Despite his body breaking down with aging, passion-related accidents, and high cholesterol, the one thing that holds strong in his life is his love for Mavis, whom he married in 1980.

“I always tell guys when they meet a woman, ‘Marry your conscience. Marry someone who’s the person you wish you could be, and it works out okay.” Leno tells people of his enduring love with Mavis, now 77.

After 45 years together, the childless couple started facing some hardships.

Mavis was diagnosed with dementia, and her condition is rapidly declining.

In April 2024, Leno was granted a conservatorship over his wife’s estate by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge who ruled the measure was “necessary and appropriate.”

According to court documents obtained by Entertainment Tonight, “Mavis has been progressively losing capacity and orientation to space and time for several years.”

The filing also says, “Jay is fully capable of continuing support for Mavis’ physical and financial needs, as he has throughout their marriage,” but her “current condition renders her incapable of executing the estate plan.”

Included in the documents is a statement from her neurologist, Dr. Cohen: “Sometimes [Mavis] does not know her husband, Jay, nor her date of birth.”

Cohen, Mavis’ attending doctor at Cedars Sinai, adds that Leno “loves his wife very much” and “treats [Mavis] like gold.”

‘No one lives forever’

Only months later, In Touch reports that Leno is now preparing for his own death, making end-of-life arrangements so his fortunes are delivered to the rightful beneficiaries.

The filing reads: “No one lives forever, and the actions taken by Mr. Leno are reasonable and necessary for his and Mavis’ protection. Mavis does not object to the petition and, in my opinion, consents to it. Mr. Leno is her protector, and she trusts him. This estate planning is in her best interest and protects her interests.”

Leno’s latest filing details provisions for Mavis’ care and discloses that the couple intends to stay in their home “for as long as reasonably possible,” using their money for “assistance from household employees or caregivers as may be necessary.”

If Leno dies first, “the estate will divide into the Leno Marital Trust… it will have the Leno Collection and any real property housing the Leno Collection. It will be irrevocable, and the survivor receives all income plus principal for reasonable support. After the survivor’s death, the after-tax balance will be distributed, along with the Leno Trust to JDM.”

The Leno Collection is Leno’s collection of automobiles and motorcycles that’s valued at more than $52 million and any real property.

Leno also instructed the JDM Foundation, a charity he launched in 1988, to open a museum with his automobile collection, and he’s already named the three initial directors.

In addition, Leno is leaving $7 million to Mavis’ brother Rikki Nicholson, who lives next door, and to his nephew Richard Leno.

The court-appointed official said Leno’s amendments to the trust will likely be approved.

It’s hard to imagine a world without Jay Leno! Please let us know what you think and then share this story so we can send Leno and Mavis a lot of love!

NFL reporter confirms passing of 2-year-old daughter after cancer diagnosis

NFL reporter Doug Kyed has revealed that his two-year-old daughter has passed away, nine months following her heartbreaking leukemia diagnosis.

As per reports, little Hallie Kyed was dealt the shocking blow in April 2023. Her father Doug, who works for the Boston Herald, shared on Instagram that his daughter had lost her fight on January 2021.

Kyed revealed that things had taken a turn for the worse after Hallie relapsed following a bone marrow transplant.

I’m choosing to stay positive,” the reporter said at the time.

Hallie has beaten every single obstacle that AML has thrown her so far. This will absolutely be her toughest test, but if anyone can topple it, it’s our fierce little Hallie Bear.

Even so, Doug admitted they that “knew the prognosis was poor when she relapsed after her bone marrow transplant, so the whole family spent special time at the hospital last week, but we held out hope for remission because of how brave, strong and resilient Hallie had been through her entire nine-month battle with acute myeloid leukemia and all of its complications.”

As per the American Cancer Society, acute myeloid leukemia starts in the bone marrow but moves quickly into the blood. Thereafter it can spread to the lymph nodes, the liver, the spleen and central nervous system.

Speaking to the Boston Herald, Doug said that he had spent almost half his nights at Boston’s Children Hospital since his daughter’s diagnosis last year.

“My wife and I have switched off between caring for Hallie and our 5-year-old, Olivia, at home,” he explained.

Doug’s wife Jen, meanwhile, described the feeling of losing her daughter as having a hole in her heart.

“There is a giant hole in my heart and the pain is excruciating,” Jen Kyed shared. “I will never understand why or how something so horrible can happen.”

Rest in peace, Hallie.

Millie Smith and Lewis Cann were over the moon upon the revelation that they would become parents. Having a number of twins in their family, Millie had the gut feeling that she was carrying two babies herself, and her mother’s instinct didn’t fail her.

The ultrasound showed that she was indeed expecting twins, but even at the beginning of the pregnancy, doctor’s could determine that one of the babies wasn’t likely to survive.

When Millie gave birth at 30 weeks pregnant, they were told that one of their daughters had anencephaly, a life-limiting condition where the baby’s brain and spinal cord (the fetal nervous system) do not develop properly.

They were also told that their bundle of joy only minutes to hours to live.

Knowing this, her parents wanted to name her before they could say the final goodbye. They chose the name Skye.

“We knew that Skye needed to have a name before she was born,” Millie said. “Knowing she would only survive for seconds or minutes, I wanted her to be named during that time.”

The meaning behind “Skye,” she explained, symbolized “somewhere we knew she would always be, that we could look up at the sky and remember our baby.”

“We were cuddling Skye when she passed away. This was the worst moment in our lives. I have never ever felt heartbreak like that before. But I am proud that she fought for so long to spend time with us.”

Skye only lived for three hours, time her parents spent admiring her beauty and enjoying her presence into their lives.

Following her passing, the couple were provided with a “bereavement midwife” and a “Daisy Room,” a space where parents can be with their infant before and after death, to help them cope with the loss.

However, once the girl was gone, no one talked about her any more. Millie felt like her baby never even existed, and that made her mad.

“Most of the nurses were aware of what had happened, but as time passed, people stopped talking about Skye. After about four weeks, everyone acted as though nothing had happened, meaning the families around me had no idea about our situation,” the grieving mother recalled.

As her other baby, Callie, was still at NICU, another mother who had just had twins on her own told Millie how lucky she was for not having twins, not knowing of Millie’s loss.

“None of the other parents knew what had happened or anything about Skye. The comment was completely innocent and more out of humor…They weren’t to know that I did at one point have two.” Millie continued, “But the comment nearly broke me. I ran out [of] the room in tears and they had no idea why. I didn’t have the heart to tell them what had happened. A simple sticker would have avoided that entire situation.”

This is when Millie came up with the idea of putting a sticker on the incubator indicating the loss of one or more babies in a set of multiples.

“I chose butterflies, as I felt it was fitting to remember the babies that flew away, the color purple because it is suitable for both boys or girls,” she explained.

Today, her initiative has grown into a foundation, The Skye High Foundation, that supports the purple butterfly initiative. So far, it helped spread the idea to hospitals in many different nations.

The purple butterfly merchandise includes a variety of gifts and accessories.

“Ultimately I will never be able to stop this from happening, but the more support groups we can set up and put things in place like the stickers the better it will be. It’s the hardest thing anyone has to deal with,” Millie said.

Today, her other girl, Callie is seven years old.
