Milwaukee CBS weather reporter loses job after criticizing Elon Musk ‘salute’
A Milwaukee CBS weather reporter has lost her job after she called out Elon Musk following that controversial gesture on Inauguration Day.
In case you’ve missed all of the drama, Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20 drew significant attention, and much of the spotlight shifted to Musk during the celebratory events at the Capital One Arena.

During the festivities, Musk delivered a speech about humanity’s future on Mars.
At one point, he struck his chest and raised his right arm upward at an angle, stating: “I feel it in my heart.” He repeated the motion while facing an American flag, sparking enthusiastic cheers from the audience.
“My heart goes out to you,” Musk declared. “It is thanks to you that the future of civilization is assured. Thanks to you. We’re gonna have safe cities, finally safe cities. Secure borders, sensible spending. Basic stuff. And we’re gonna take ‘Doge’ to Mars.”
Despite Musk’s supporters arguing that the billionaire’s gesture represented him giving his heart to the American people, critics quickly drew comparisons between Musk’s action and the infamous Nazi salute.
Musk addressed the criticism directly on X, dismissing the accusations.
“Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is so tired,” he wrote, referring to what he has previously described as a “dirty tricks campaign” against him after distancing himself from the Democratic Party.

Now, it has been reported that Sam Kuffel – a weather reporter for CBS 58 – lost her position at the station after she took to Instagram to call out Musk.
In one post, Kuffel commented on an image of Musk at the podium, writing: “Dude Nazi saluted twice. TWICE. During the inauguration.”
She further stated: “You f*** with this and this man, I don’t f*** with you. Full stop.”
In a second post, Kuffel shared a GIF from the TV show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia accompanied by the caption: “Screw that old b****. He’s a Nazi.”

CBS 58 confirmed Kuffel’s termination in an internal memo from news director Jessie Garcia, which was obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
“Meteorologist Sam Kuffel is no longer employed at CBS 58,” the memo read. “A search for a replacement is underway.”
A representative of Weigel Broadcasting Co. – the company that owns the station – confirmed the dismissal in an emailed statement to the Journal Sentinel on Wednesday, however, no reason for Kuffel’s dismissal was provided.

Kuffel’s biography and photo were removed from Channel 58 website on Wednesday afternoon. It also appears that the meteorologist has hidden or removed her Instagram account at this time.
Kuffel’s Instagram posts drew public attention after conservative radio host Dan O’Donnell highlighted them on X (formerly Twitter).
“CBS 58 meteorologist Sam Kuffel makes a pair of vulgar Instagram posts while spreading the lie that Elon Musk was giving a Nazi salute during yesterday’s Presidential Inauguration,” O’Donnell wrote.
O’Donnell also referenced Musk’s explanation of the gesture, noting that the billionaire said “my heart goes out to you” during the moment in question.
Given that Musk considers himself a champion of free speech, it would be interesting to get his views on this.
