Serena Williams addresses doing 'crip walk' after making Super Bowl appearance during Kendrick Lamar halftime show

Serena Williams danced onstage with Kendrick Lamar during his Super Bowl halftime performance

The tennis star busted out the dance move which was created by first-generation Crip member Robert ‘Sugar Bear’ Jackson in the 70s.

“Man I did not crip walk like that at Wimbledon, I would’ve been fined,” Williams joked in a video she shared on social media.

Williams, who was rumoured to have dated Drake in 2011, took to the stage as Kendrick performed his diss track aimed at the Canadian rapper.

“Kendrick getting Serena williams to crip walk while performing Not Like Us is nasty work,” one viewer tweeted.

As another added: “The Serena Williams crip walk during They Not Like Us was a wild flex by Kendrick.”

On the night, however, Kendrick left out the most controversial lyric from the diss track, leaving the audience to say it for him.

“Say, Drake, I hear you like ’em young / You better not ever go to cell block one / To any b**ch that talk to him and they in love / Just make sure you hide your lil’ sister from him,” he rapped.

“They tell me Chubbs the only one that get your hand-me-downs / And Party at the party playin’ with his nose now / And Baka got a weird case, why is he around? / Certified Lover Boy? Certified (missed out ‘p**dophiles’ lyric).”

“Why you trollin’ like a b**ch? / Ain’t you tired? / Tryna strike a chord and it’s probably A-minorrrrrr,” Kendrick added on the track which has amassed over a billion streams on Spotify.

As expected, much of the crowd sang along to the record, which recently picked up multiple Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Drake has continued to deny the allegations, and responded in ‘The Heart Part 6’: “I never been with no one underage but now I understand why this the angle that you really mess with / Just for clarity, I feel disgusted, I’m too respected. If I was f**king young girls, I promise I’d a been arrested / I’m way too famous for this s**t you just suggested.”

Legal action

Drake’s legal team has filed a defamation lawsuit against his own record label Universal Music Group for releasing ‘Not Like Us’.

Without naming Kendrick in the suit, it alleges that the claims in the song were baseless and harmful to his career.

Universal, which has been Drake’s record label for over a decade, said: “Not only are these claims untrue, but the notion that we would seek to harm the reputation of any artist – let alone Drake – is illogical.”
