Drake’s orange slider wasn’t much of a defence against the drone

Eagle-eyed fans believe they’ve rumbled Drake after a baffling video of the rapper throwing a slipper at a drone appeared on the internet.

Drake is currently going viral once again after a video emerged which appears to show a drone filming inside of the penthouse in Australia where he is currently staying for his Anita Max Win Tour.

The clip begins by showing a laptop and a glass of wine on a swanky terrace in the Sydney skyscraper before the rapper appears from inside.

Seemingly shocked by the drone, Drake grabs a bright orange slider from inside and attempts to lob it in the camera’s direction before it flies off.

Now there’s a lot to unpack with the video, chiefly the security concerns associated with someone allegedly using a drone to spy on celebrities but also Drake’s frankly abysmal attempt at throwing the shoe towards the drone, which goes massively to the left of the camera.

So what is actually happening in the video? Has Drake just been a victim of a massive invasion of privacy or is there something else going on?

If you thought that a high quality drone flying into the apartment of Drake seemed just a little bit nonsensical you’re not alone, as it seems likely the video is part of a viral marketing campaign for a gambling site.

The website for Stake, an Australian-Curaçaoan online casino appears on the laptop screen during the opening moments of the clip — something which didn’t go unnoticed by fans.

Drake also has an ongoing partnership with the website, which was confirmed by Forbes back in 2022.

“Drake, who is partnered with stake is seen gambling on stake with the laptop conveniently facing the drone,” one person wrote on X, adding: “This is an ad, come on people.”

“‘Drake’s High-Stakes Surprise: Drone Catches Rapper’s Unaware Gambling Session on Stake!’ Man will sure do anything to double his cash,” a second person wrote.

Particularly eagle-eyed viewers also picked up on the fact that the reflection of another man could be seen in the glass windows, further suggesting the whole video was a stunt.

“You know how you know Drake never looks in the Mirror? He doesn’t know how reflections work,” penned one unimpressed viewer.

“This ain’t even a troll, you can actually see the drone operator in the video.”

“Drake deserves an Oscar for overacting,” a second wrote, while a third added: “I’m extremely concerned with the apparent tens of thousands of people who can’t tell that the drake drone video is some kind of stunt. he’s not even acting that well in it.”

Woman gave birth to baby via IVF then had to give it up after realising it wasn't hers

Krystena Murray is now suing the clinic over the mix-up

A woman in the US underwent two years of IVF treatment and gave birth to a healthy baby — only to realise the child wasn’t biologically hers.

The birth of a child should be the most joyful moment in an expectant parent’s life, however for 38-year-old Krystena Murray it’s when her entire world came crashing down.

Murray had delivered the baby boy back in December 2023 and instantly realised something was wrong after noticing the child did not resemble her.

Murray, who is white, had opted for a white sperm donor with similar physical features as her, however the baby she gave birth to was black.

She would later learn that a mix-up at the fertility clinic she was treated at meant an embryo from another couple was mistakenly placed inside her rather than her own, according to a lawsuit.

This was later confirmed by a DNA test after reaching out to the clinic.

Murray had then decided to raise the child regardless of her biological connection after bonding during pregnancy; however she was dealt a further blow after the clinic informed the boy’s biological parents, who sued for custody in May 2024.

She has since handed the child over to his biological parents and is now suing Georgia clinic Coastal Fertility Specialists over the heartbreaking mix-up, accusing them of implanting the wrong embryo.

She is reportedly seeking damages of $75,000 (£59,000) for the mental anguish and emotional distress, stating the mix-up turned her into an ‘unwitting surrogate, against her will, for another couple’.

“I have never felt so violated and the situation has left me emotionally and physically broken,” she said (via AP).

“I spent my entire life wanting to be a mum. I loved, nurtured and grew my child and I would have done literally anything to keep him.”

Despite the harrowing experience, Murray has also added that she still hopes to one day become a mother, telling reporters that she is currently undergoing treatment at a different fertility clinic.

Coastal Fertility Specialists has since issued a statement calling the case ‘an unprecedented error that resulted in an embryo transfer mix-up’.

“This was an isolated event with no further patients affected,” the statement to AP read.

“We are doing everything we can to make things right for those affected by this incident.”

“Fertility clinics engage in vitally important work,” Murray’s attorney Adam Wolf added.

“With that amazing work comes a real responsibility. And when fertility clinics make mistakes like this, the consequences are life-altering.”

Disturbing truth behind Virgin Mary statue that 'weeps tears of blood' has finally been revealed

Gisella Cardia’s claims about the Madonna di Trevignano have reportedly been debunked by a DNA test

The mystery surrounding a Virgin Mary statue which supposedly ‘weeps tears of blood’ has finally been solved after almost a decade.

Since 2016, people from across the world have been flocking to the town of Carmiano in Italy to visit the effigy, known as Madonna di Trevignano, which is said to have extraordinary powers.

The owner, Gisella Cardia, alleged that the statue started crying tears of blood nine years ago, as well as giving her prophecies to share with other people.

On every third day of the month, she would allow believers to visit the Madonna di Trevignano, which was placed in a large blue case on a hill as part of a makeshift shrine.

Cardia bought the statue at a Catholic pilgrimage site in Medjugorje, a town in Bosnia and Herzegovina, before its mystical powers supposedly came to light.

She alleged that the Madonna di Trevignano fed 15 people with never-ending portions of pizza, gnocchi and rabbit, among other bizarre things.

People even believed that Cardia had got a heads up about the Covid-19 pandemic thanks to her special statue – however, the Roman Catholic church insisted it was all a load of rubbish last year.

Vatican’s Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith issued its first decree, according to rules for vetting any alleged Marian apparitions (a reported supernatural appearance from the Virgin Mary) and spiritual phenomena.

This referred to a report from a Diocese of Civita Castellana, which hadn’t found anything at all supernatural about the famed statue.

It stated: “It is clear that it is not supernatural. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus, Mother of the Church and our Mother, restore peace and serenity in view of the spiritual good of the faithful of the parish of Trevignano Romano and of the people of God who are throughout the Diocese of Civita Castellana.”

Now, there appears to be scientific evidence to support the fact that the Madonna di Trevignano doesn’t leak blood out of her eyes – as it seems they really were just crocodile tears after all.

A DNA test was carried out to track down the source of the alleged bodily fluid after suspicious locals suggested that Cardia could have used pig’s blood to fool people.

Prosecutors ordered the lab tests after residents hired a private investigator in 2022, who later met with the Italian military police, to dig into the woman’s claims about the statue.

The results, which were obtained on Thursday (13 February), suggest that the red liquid falling from the Madonna di Trevignano’s eyes matched Cardia’s genetic profile, local outlet Corriere della Sera reported.

This information is reportedly set to be handed over to prosecutors on 28 February.

However, Cardia’s lawyer Solange Marchignoli has insisted that the tests don’t disprove the woman’s claims about the statue.

“The DNA stain warrants further investigation,” she said. “We are waiting to find out whether it’s a mixed or single profile.

“If the profile is single, it means that it is only Cardia’s and she put it there, so in this case we would go to trial. But if, as expected, the profile is mixed, it means that the DNA found on the statue also contains Cardia’s DNA, which we expect because she used, kissed it and handled it.

“Who can say? Do you know the Madonna’s DNA? I deduce it is not human but this is our thought: do we delve into faith? I want to exclude that it is not only Gisella’s blood.

“I invite everyone to be cautious – because, on the contrary, extremes of a crime would be detected – and I await the official outcome of the expert report, hoping that it will be favourable to our defence.”

Cardia has been accused by fraud by several people, according to The Guardian, who gave her donations which they believed were funding a centre for sick children.

Reports claim that the Madonna di Trevignano owner has fled her home in Trevignano and that no one – including her lawyer – has knowledge of her whereabouts.

Inside 'Britain's tiniest house' that's gone on sale for £235,000

There is not enough room to swing a cat, should you be inclined to do such a thing

If you’re looking for a cosy place with a sea view, then you might want to give this little place in Cornwall a look, and when we say ‘little’, we really mean it.

A Cambridge University study has found that homes in the UK are actually the smallest in Europe, and we might just have found the home that’s dragging the national average down.

In the Cornish town of Porthleven, there’s a one-bedroom cottage called ‘The Doll’s House’, which technically has everything a homeowner could want from their property.

There’s a place to sleep, wash, cook, and evacuate the contents of your bowels, and as if that wasn’t enough, there’s even spaces which could technically be classified as a living room and hallway.

It's a bedroom, it contains a bed, what more could you want? (Rightmove)

It’s a bedroom, it contains a bed, what more could you want? (Rightmove)

Let’s just hope you aren’t bothered about getting any legroom in any of these places, and you won’t have much joy locating copious storage space.

Quite frankly, this property seems like it would be ideal for someone who barely exists in the physical world and is not particularly fussed about having a lot of material possessions.

If all of this sounds amazing, and if you can afford the asking price of £235,000, then this new home could be all yours.

It was last bought back in 2020 for £195,000, and before that, it went on sale in 2006 for £127,000, rather proving that the key to gaining wealth in Britain is to have bought property a few decades back and let it get expensive.

There was enough space for a kitchen (Rightmove)

The land this house was built on what used to be an alleyway between two other houses, so if you’re thinking the front of it seems a little wide, then rest assured – it gets a lot narrower as you go in.

While you don’t get a garden as part of the property, The Doll’s House does come with a small patch of stone chippings out front, and it seems there’s space for a bench where you can look out to the sea.

I hope you weren't planning on putting your feet up in the living room (Rightmove)

At least you could if there weren’t other properties in the way.

There is an enticing little nugget about this minuscule abode, and that’s the fact that, according to The Doll’s House listing on Rightmove, it’s exempt from Council Tax.

The estate agents are calling it ‘a charmingly narrow and characterful property’, which deserves some sort of award for putting an optimistic spin on things.

They said the cottage was ‘more spacious than you might expect’, and bless them for trying their best with what is quite clearly a very small property.

Another study from The Royal Institute of British Architects found that many homes for Brits aren’t big enough for the needs of the people living in them, so if you want to make The Doll’s House work for you, then here’s hoping you have a minimalist approach to life.

Five Guys explained why they have never had a vegetarian or vegan burger on their menu

Five Guys explained why they have never had a vegetarian or vegan burger on their menu

Five Guys explained why they have never had a vegetarian or vegan burger on their menu

There’s only one real food option for the vegans

Whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing, it’s fair to say we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to fast food in this country.

From pretty much always being able to locate a Maccies to even having a variety of places to grab chicken wings, we’ve all got our favourite spot.

And when it comes to burgers, Five Guys may be your King – bag full of fries and all. But, arguably heartbreakingly, plenty of people end up having to say goodbye to the joint when they go veggie or vegan.

Because while you can add whatever you fancy to the beef burgers, the chain has never had a vegetarian or vegan burger on its menu. And it’s explained just why.

They might be known for their burgers but it's meat only. (Eduardo Parra/Getty Images)

Over on the UK site’s FAQs, it answered: “Why does Five Guys not have a vegan burger?” And it turns out it’s apparently all down to its ‘commitment to quality’.

“Five Guys is a family-run company that was born as a single burger joint in Virginia back in 1986. The commitment to quality means that we rarely develop new products – it took 28 years for Shakes to be added to the menu!” it explained.

So, the restaurant says it will only release something new if it’s felt that ‘it is literally the best’ that it can offer in that category.

“We’re currently exploring and trialling different options, however we are not quite there yet with a meat-free patty that represents Five Guys quality,” it added.

Yes, I know, I can hear you shouting at me that the chain does serve the Veggie Sandwich. Of course, we all know that.

However, that’s not suitable for vegans.

It consists of fresh and grilled vegetables on the signature bun, just with no patty. The Grilled Cheese Sandwich is also made by turning the burger bun inside out, toasting it with a light layer of mayo on the outside plus the melted cheese.

Only the fries are vegan. (Marge Ely for The Washington Post via Getty Images)

Those buns are toasted on a separate grill only used for bread and veggies, so they don’t come into contact with meat products.

But, the burger buns do include milk and eggs, so they might not be suitable for all vegetarians or vegans.

There is some saving grace though, if your vegan pal is joining you at Five Guys – the fries.

Famously, the fries are cooked in peanut oil, meaning both the Five Guys and Cajun styles are suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets.

And for now, it’ll just have to be that, as it doesn’t look like a vegan burger is coming anytime soon.

Callie Rogers was just a teen when she won the lottery in 2003

Turns out the person who came up with the phrase that ‘money doesn’t solve all your problems’ may have actually been on to something after all.

Most of us Brits have probably spent at least some of our spare time daydreaming about quitting our jobs, splashing out on a mansion and riding off into the sunset should we ever win the jackpot – but be warned, as life doesn’t always turn out that way.

One person who’s more than qualified to warn about the pitfalls of becoming an overnight millionaire is Callie Rogers, who was just 16 years old when she won a whopping £1.875 million back in 2003.

Callie Rodgers was 16 when she won the jackpot (PA)

At the time Callie was making just £3.60 an hour at her local Co-op in Cumbria and living with foster parents, which meant her huge winnings brought a life-changing reversal of fortunes.

Nearly 22-years on from the win and Callie’s life is drastically different and it’s fair to say she’s had quite a rollercoaster ride since then.

After cashing the cheque Callie wasted no time in upgrading her day-to-day life and splashed out half a million on homes for herself as well as places for friends and family.

She reportedly spent a further £550k on clothes, tattoos and travelling other the years as well as money on numerous cosmetic surgeries, including £18,000 on boob jobs.

However, it wasn’t long before Callie began to experience the less savoury side of winning the lottery.

She was soon greeted by the outstretched hands of people looking to cash in on her win – money that she would never see back.

“People asked for money for new cars and I would help out. I was a soft touch,” she told The Mirror in 2019.

“Now I realise what they were like. I was exploited because of my age. I had a lot of fake relationships.”

Callie added: “I would give money to distant relatives and friends of friends. I loaned £20,000 here, £13,000 there. I would never get it back.”

It was reported that Callie spent a further £250,000 on cocaine – something she has denied – before eventually going bankrupt.

“Overnight I went from carefree child to adult. All these years on, it still gets dragged up,” she told The Mirror.

“It preys on my mind, what a new partner’s family will think of me, or even new friends. I still get abuse just because of who I am.”

Now 37 and a mother of five, Callie has since gone back to school and trained as a carer. She previously argued for the government to raise the minimum age in which a person can purchase a lottery ticket, arguing that she was proof it was dangerous to allow children to win so much money.

The UK Government would later raise the minimum age from 16 to 18 for all lottery players.

Camelot, who used to own the National Lottery, previously said it had offered Callie ‘extensive support’ over the years.

A spokesman said: “She didn’t take up the independent financial and legal advice offered by us.

“However, our winner’s team fully supported her and helped her to handle media interest. We will continue to support Callie in any way we can if she wants.”

The courtroom fell silent as the verdict was read, but A$AP Rocky’s reaction was anything but. In a moment that set social media abuzz, the rapper moved swiftly through the crowd, his destination clear.

A$AP Rocky has been found not guilty in his felony assault trial, where he was accused of firing shots at his former friend Terell Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli. The jury reached its verdict after nearly three hours of deliberation on February 18, 2025, in Los Angeles.

The 36-year-old rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, had been facing two felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon over a 2021 incident near a Hollywood hotel.

Despite allegations from Ephron, no firearm was recovered by authorities. However, Ephron claimed he later found two 9-millimeter shell casings at the scene.

Sam Bassett, a criminal defense attorney, stated, “Police failed to find the gun and that became the strongest point for the defense.”

Following the not guilty verdict, Rocky immediately ran into the audience and embraced his partner, Rihanna, the mother of his children. The emotional moment was captured on video and quickly went viral.

Users across multiple platforms shared their reactions to Rocky’s post-verdict embrace with Rihanna. On X, one user commented, “Who was the blonde he hugged first tho [sic]?”

Another user observed, “He hugged another girl BEFORE he hugged his woman I think you should start a fight [sic].”

Others focused on his emotional moment with Rihanna, with one stating, “the way Asap Rocky ran over and gave Rihanna a hug after the not guilty verdict >>> [sic].”

On Instagram, users had similar responses. One questioned, “Why did the blonde think he’d be running to hug her instead of RiRi [sic]??”

Another expressed, “Why do I wanna cry for this man?!” A different user echoed the sentiment, writing, “Aww the way he jumped on rihanna made me wanna cry yes [sic].”

The trial, which had the potential to impact Rocky’s career, concluded with his acquittal. While legal experts pointed to the lack of physical evidence as a key factor in his defense, much of the public discussion centered on his courtroom reaction and embrace with Rihanna.

Social media continues to buzz with comments on the moment, keeping the rapper at the center of online conversations.

Beyond the viral embrace, the verdict itself has sparked intense debate. After nearly three hours of deliberation, jurors cleared Rocky of felony assault charges in the 2021 shooting case, drawing strong reactions from both legal experts and the public.

Moments after the decision was read, Rocky expressed his relief and gratitude to the jury. “Thank y’all for saving my life,” he told jurors.

The case, according to The New York Times, centered on a dispute between Rocky and Relli, former high school friends and members of the A$AP Mob rap collective.

Relli testified that they agreed to meet on the evening of November 6, 2021, in a parking garage near the W Hotel in Hollywood to resolve their differences.

Relli claimed that Rocky arrived with two men — A$AP Twelvyy, born Jamel Phillips, and A$AP Illz, born Illijah Ulanger. After a brief argument, the groups separated, but the confrontation resumed moments later.

He also alleged that Rocky pulled a gun from his waistband and fired at him, grazing his right hand. Prosecutors presented surveillance footage showing Rocky holding a gun before the shooting to support their case.

“The whole thing was like a movie,” Relli testified, describing how Rocky pointed the gun downward before firing the first shot.

The defense countered Relli’s claims, arguing that Rocky had fired blanks from a prop gun, which he had started carrying months earlier on the advice of a security consultant.

Witnesses, including Twelvyy, testified that Relli knew the gun was fake and that Rocky intended to protect Illz from being physically attacked.

The court never introduced a firearm as evidence, and Rocky did not take the stand during the trial. Rocky’s legal team further argued that Relli exaggerated the incident to extort the rapper and bolster his case for damages in an upcoming civil trial.

Rocky’s partner, Rihanna, attended the final verdict of Rocky’s case. Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney John Lewin urged jurors not to be swayed by her presence.

Rocky’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, later revealed that the rapper had not wanted Rihanna at the trial. “He wanted to shield her from this. Wild horses couldn’t keep her away,” Tacopina added.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Rihanna attended several court sessions in support of Rocky, but once, she brought their two sons, RZA, 2, and Riot Rose, 9 months.

Following the news of Rocky’s not-guilty verdict, social media erupted with reactions. One supporter posted, “Amen!!!!!!! Now go home to your wife and babies man I’m crying real tears!!! I’m so happy for him.”

Others speculated about the trial’s outcome. One user wrote, “I know that cost Rihanna a pretty penny 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😬,” while another commented, “When you have money evidence goes missing.”

One skeptic acknowledged their initial doubt when Rocky rejected a plea deal but noted that his decision ultimately led to freedom.

A separate user expressed happiness with the trial’s result for both the rapper and Rihanna, while someone else simply called him an “innocent man.”

Back in January 2025, according to ABC News, Rocky rejected a plea deal that would have required him to serve 180 days in jail, three years of probation, and other minor conditions in exchange for pleading guilty to an assault with a gun charge.

His attorney, Tacopina, confirmed the offer, stating that the rapper had no interest in accepting it because he maintained his innocence. “If convicted, he could have faced up to 24 years in prison,” Tacopina said at the time.

The attorney expressed confidence that Rocky would be vindicated and recognized the emotional toll the case had on him and his family, especially his two young children. Despite the challenges, he stressed that Rocky was ready to face the legal battle head-on.

What We Know About the Toronto Plane Crash: Woman Trapped Upside Down Briefly Records Video Inside the Plane

A recent plane crash ended in an unexpected outcome. Survivors recounted their harrowing experience and experts weighed in on what happened during the incident.

A Delta Air Lines plane crashed on the runway of Pearson International Airport in Toronto on the afternoon of February 17, 2025. A woman, trapped upside down when the plane overturned, briefly recorded a video from inside the aircraft.

Endeavor Air Flight 4819 had been arriving from Minneapolis/St. Paul when the incident occurred. The crash landing left the aircraft upside down on the tarmac, with its tail and one wing completely torn off.

Authorities reported strong westward winds, reaching speeds of 29 mph with gusts up to 38 mph, around 2:15 p.m.—the time of the crash. Toronto had been grappling with drifting snow after back-to-back snowstorms in recent days.

Flightradar24, an aviation tracking website, noted that weather advisories for Pearson International Airport at the time warned of “a gusting crosswind and blowing snow.”

Meanwhile, Airport Fire Chief Todd Aitken provided an update regarding the runway’s condition, “What we can say is the runway was dry and there was no cross-wind conditions.”

The moments immediately following the crash were captured in audio recordings from the airport. “This airplane just crashed,” an air traffic controller disclosed.

Mere seconds later, the severity of the crash became clearer. “The aircraft there’s upside down and burning [sic],” a controller reported. The recordings also noted that passengers were seen walking outside the plane just minutes after the impact.

As the situation unfolded, Delta Air Lines addressed the public through their official X page, sharing an update on the passengers’ conditions. According to the statement, initial reports indicated no fatalities, with 18 injured passengers transported to area hospitals. It also emphasized that the primary focus was on supporting those affected.

Toronto Pearson Airport CEO Deborah Flint initially reported 17 injuries following the crash. However, during a subsequent briefing, Aitken provided an update, stating that “one additional passenger” had been taken to the hospital, bringing the total to 18.

Ornge, the province’s air ambulance service, reported that three individuals, including a child, had suffered critical injuries. However, during a later update, GTAA officials stated they had no information confirming any critical injuries. In total, 80 people were onboard the plane — 76 passengers and four crew members — who managed to escape the wreckage.

After the crash, passengers shared their firsthand experiences of the terrifying moments onboard. Among them was Pete Koukov, a professional skier from Colorado, who described the chaos during the landing.

“Nothing seemed amiss during the plane’s final descent. The second that the wheels hit the ground, then everything happened. The next thing I know, we’re sideways,” the 28-year-old recalled in an interview.

The confusion intensified in an instant. After the aircraft came to a standstill, “we were upside down hanging like bats,” Koukov divulged. Seated by a window on the opposite side of the plane, he saw flames as the plane skidded across the runway on its right side before coming to rest upside down.

He quickly unbuckled his seatbelt and lowered himself to the ceiling, which had become the floor. According to him, people were panicking during the chaotic moments after the crash. Flight attendants helped passengers crawl through open exit doors, urging them to leave belongings behind, though his video shows some exiting with bags in tow.

As passengers made it safely to the ground, a sense of relief set in for Koukov. He later shared that he felt fortunate to hug the stranger sitting next to him, knowing they were both safe, and to embrace his friends who came to pick him up from the airport.

That sense of gratitude was shared by other passengers as well, including John Nelson, who described the experience as surreal, adding, “It’s amazing that we’re still here.”

Nelson recalled the flight feeling routine as it approached Toronto, though he did notice strong winds and snow covering the runway. When the plane hit the ground, he said, “it was just a [sic] super hard — it hit the ground, and the plane went sideways.”

Moments later, he saw “a big fireball” through the left-side window. Seated in row 10 just ahead of the wing, Nelson and his seatmate were left hanging upside down after the crash.

They unbuckled their seatbelts, dropped to the ceiling, and quickly moved toward the exit as the air filled with the sharp scent of jet fuel. They tried to get out as quickly as possible, recalling that the smell of jet fuel lingered even afterward.

The terrifying moments didn’t end there. In a Snapchat video, passenger Ashley Zook captured the aftermath of the crash, saying, “I was just in a plane crash. Oh my God.”

In the wake of the crash, experts noted the outcome could have been far more devastating without modern safety advancements. David Soucie, a CNN safety analyst and former FAA safety inspector, explained that improvements in aircraft design and seat safety likely prevented the crash from being “much worse.”

“Everything that could go wrong went wrong, yet 80 people survived the accident,” Soucie said, comparing the incident to a 1987 crash in Denver where a DC-9 flipped in similar conditions, killing 28 people.

He noted that stronger, more secure seats played a significant role in protecting passengers during the Toronto crash. Soucie also pointed out a key design improvement: the wing of the Delta aircraft broke away upon impact, as intended.

He explained that the wing is designed to break away upon impact to prevent it from ripping the fuselage in half, adding that this design feature likely saved many lives.

The effectiveness of the aircraft’s safety features was no coincidence. The Bombardier CRJ900 was built to withstand hard landings and enable quick evacuations—an essential factor in saving all 80 lives onboard.

Peter Goelz, a CNN aviation analyst and former NTSB managing director, explained that a strong gust of wind hit the plane during touchdown, causing it to tip and tear off a wing.

The impact ignited a fire in the wing’s fuel cells, while the tail broke off as designed to minimize damage. “The airplane was designed to take a hit like this,” Goelz said.

The 18 reported injuries included passengers left hanging upside down in their seats, their belts preventing more serious harm. Goelz emphasized the importance of keeping seat belts snugly fastened, noting that it could save lives.

He also praised the crew’s “extraordinary” response, noting that their emergency training paid off. “This is the test, and they passed it with flying colors,” he stated.

Goelz predicted a quick investigation, expecting the Transport Safety Board of Canada to release a preliminary report within 30 days that could provide key insights into the crash — an effort that will be assisted by a team of American investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration..

The aircraft itself was about 16 years old and was well within the typical lifespan for passenger jets, which often operate for two to three decades. Cirium, an aviation data company, reported that more than 380 CRJ900s are in service globally and noted the model’s long-standing reputation for safety.

While the CRJ900 has a solid safety record, the Toronto crash is part of a recent wave of aviation incidents that have unsettled travelers worldwide. In December 2024, a crash in South Korea claimed 179 lives, followed by a fatal midair collision near Washington D.C. in January 2025 that left 67 people dead.

The crash near D.C. became the most significant commercial aviation disaster in the United States since 2009. The mid-air collision on January 29 occurred near Reagan National Airport when American Airlines Flight 5342, operated by PSA Airlines, struck a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter.

The jet had been en route from Wichita, Kansas, when it crashed above the Potomac River, according to the FAA. Defense officials later confirmed the helicopter was on a training mission at the time.

The collision disrupted air traffic, forcing 19 flights to divert to Dulles International Airport. Air traffic controllers had instructed the Black Hawk to pass behind the approaching jet moments before the crash, but recordings captured their shock as communication suddenly turned to chaos.

A video recorded by EarthCam showed the aircraft and helicopter colliding midair before erupting into flames. The incident added to growing concerns about aviation safety.

The crash in Toronto highlights the unpredictable nature of air travel, even with modern safety advancements. As investigators work to uncover the cause, the survival of all 80 passengers highlights the importance of well-engineered aircraft and trained crews in life-threatening situations.

Trump blames Ukraine for Russia war and declares ‘I have the power to end it’

Donald Trump has hit back at Volodymyr Zelensky over his objection to Ukraine being left out of talks on ending the war with Russia, saying he ‘could have made a deal’ three years ago.

The US President said leaders in Kyiv should not have allowed the conflict begin, suggesting they should have been willing to make concessions before Vladimir Putin sent troops across the border in 2022.

Speaking to reporters in Palm Beach, Trump said: ‘Today I heard, “Oh, well, we weren’t invited”. Well, you been there for three years. You should have ended it three years ago.

‘You should have never started it. You could have made a deal.’

Trump said he was feeling more confident after the talks in Saudi Arabia and would probably meet Putin later this month.

‘Russia wants to do something,’ he said, adding Kyiv should have entered talks much earlier.

‘I think I have the power to end this war.’

The talks in Riyadh were the first time US and Russian officials met to discuss ways to halt the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War Two.

Ukraine has said it will not accept any deal imposed without its consent, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reiterated ‘there must be no decision over the heads of Ukraine’.

During former President Joe Biden’s administration, the US and Europe focused on isolating Russia and defending the post-World War II international order.

But even before the talks took place this week, some European politicians accused Trump’s administration of handing free concessions to Moscow by ruling out NATO membership for Ukraine and saying it was an illusion for Kyiv to believe it could win back the 20% of its territory now under Russian control.

High-level teams would begin talks on ending the conflict and would separately work to restore the countries’ respective diplomatic missions in Washington and Moscow to ease the talks going forward, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said.

Rubio said he came away from the initial talks convinced that Russia was ‘willing to begin to engage in a serious process’ but that reaching peace would involve concessions from all sides.

‘No one is being sidelined here,’ Rubio said of the absence of representatives from Ukraine and Europe at the summit.

‘Obviously, there’s going to be engagement and consultation with Ukraine, with our partners in Europe and others. But ultimately, the Russian side will be indispensable to this effort.’

Trump’s national security adviser Mike Waltz pointed out that Trump spoke with Zelensky immediately after speaking with Putin last week and that US Vice President JD Vance and Rubio met Friday with Zelensky in Germany.

Still, the Ukrainian president was irritated at being omitted from the meeting, postponing plans to visit Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to avoid any linkage of his trip with Tuesday’s US-Russia talks.

Commenting on the talks, Nigel Gould-Davies, senior fellow for Eurasia and Russia at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London and a former British ambassador to Belarus, said: ‘This whole negotiation from the start seems very tilted in Russia’s favour.

‘And it’s even a question whether it should be termed a negotiation or in some sense, a series of American capitulations.’

For Hugh Jackman ticketholders, they’ve been told they will automatically be refunded in full for tickets purchased through official agents.

As soon as the cancellation was announced, some began speculating it may have been due to poor ticket sales.

In the weeks prior, the event has repeatedly advertised tickets, a point raised online too.

‘I’m assuming the heavy advertising over the past week has nothing to do with this?’ Samuel commented on Instagram.

‘Clearly because there was very few tickets sold. Last week there was offered a payment plan, but this was all wrong from the beginning. Come up with a new big name,’ Jesper wrote.

A statement said there had been an ‘unforeseen conflict’ in his schedule (Picture: BST Hyde Park)

‘I guess couldn’t sell enough tickets’ Liam added.

When Jackman’s show was announced, it was advertised the performance would mark his return to the stage for the first time in five years in the UK and would include a ‘medley of musical theatre classics, accompanied by a live orchestra’.

‘The show will feature him performing songs from musicals including The Boy From Oz, The Greatest Showman, Les Miserables, and The Music Man, plus some surprises for his fans,’ it added.
