Devin Booker scores 26 and the Suns survive a late scare to beat the Clippers 111-109
PHOENIX — — Devin Booker scored 26 points, Kevin Durant added 24 and the surging Phoenix Suns survived a late scare for a 111-109 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night.
The Suns had a 103-90 lead with 5:06 left after Durant’s 3-pointer, but the Clippers went on a late 10-0 run, cutting the deficit to 107-106 on Norman Powell’s short jumper with 40 seconds remaining.
Phoenix’s Grayson Allen made two free throws with 10 seconds left for a 111-107 advantage, which was enough to close out the win.
The Suns have won nine of their last 12. Allen scored 18 off the bench while Tyus Jones added 17. Phoenix tied a season high with 22 3-pointers, making 46.8% of its shots from long range.
Ivica Zubac had 25 points and 16 rebounds for the Clippers. James Harden added 24 points and 10 assists, while Powell scored 23 points.
Los Angeles trailed 60-47 at halftime, but erased that deficit less than seven minutes into the third quarter, taking a 66-65 lead on Kawhi Leonard’s one-handed jam. The Suns recovered to take an 83-78 advantage into the fourth.
Takeaways
Clippers: Los Angeles almost pulled out a stunner after trailing for the majority of the night. They did a lot of things right, but couldn’t quite overcome the Suns’ 3-point barrage.
Suns: It was a nice win despite the shaky moments during the final few minutes. Phoenix has sometimes struggled to generate 3-point opportunities this season, but had 47 shots from long range on Monday.
Key moment
Allen missed a free throw on purpose with 1.3 seconds left and the Clippers out of timeouts. Powell’s full-court heave at the buzzer was way off.
Key stat
Booker and Jones both made five 3-pointers for the Suns.

The Clippers are at the Spurs on Wednesday. The Suns host the Timberwolves on Wednesday.
Chilling messages begging for ‘help’ seen on Google Maps remain unsolved
A series of eerie “Help” messages spotted on Google Maps has sparked concern in downtown Los Angeles.

According to Metro, the cryptic messages were located on a plot of land near the Los Angeles River, North Mission Road, and E Cesar E Chavez Avenue.
The area appears to be storage or wasteland, situated next to a shipping container yard and close to the Union Pacific Railroad.
While most of the visible words spell “Help,” one message reportedly reads “Traffico,” raising alarm that the markings could be a distress call from victims of human trafficking.
The discovery quickly gained traction on social media, with many curious users dissecting the messages and their potential meanings.
One Reddit user shared a chilling theory: “I also see the words ‘trafico,’ ‘federales,’ ‘LAPD,’ and ‘FBI,’ and this looks like a building site.
“If it’s a joke, it is in dangerously poor taste,” they penned. “This sounds like someone or a group of someones are being trafficked and used materials available to them to spell out an SOS. I hope if a random person noticed, authorities noticed as well.”
A user known as “LA Guy” on X took it upon himself to investigate further, sharing updates and videos of the area.
In one video filmed from the side of the road, he speculated on the origins of the messages: “I honestly don’t know if this is just kids fooling around or something real, but you can get into the yard through… a hole in the fence.”
Pointing out the open visibility of the area, he added: “If you’re writing that, everybody sees you. It seems to me like it’s just a bunch of kids playing a prank.”
In a follow-up video, LA Guy spoke to locals familiar with the site. A man suggested the messages were written by people experiencing homelessness, while a woman in the area claimed the markings were the work of someone named José.
“[José’s] the one who puts it (help) all the time,” she explained. “He writes it everywhere… it’s been years.”
However, she admitted she didn’t know why José created the messages.
The unsettling discovery has left the internet divided.
While some fear the messages could be a desperate plea from victims, others believe they may be the work of a distressed individual or simply a prank.
TikTok star is showered with praise after coming out as ‘trigender’, this is what it means to be ‘trigender’

Emily Skvarch, who goes by the handle @future4caster on TikTok, revealed in a video that they identify as “tri-gender”.
“I figured it’s about time that I came out and talked about my gender identity,” the TikToker said. “I am trigender, which means like a triangle. I have three genders: male, female, and non-binary.”
Skvarch explained the difference between trigender and being gender-fluid, sharing: “I feel all three of these genders at the same time. All the time. It doesn’t ever shift or change, or I feel one gender more strongly than the other like gender-fluid tends to be.”
Watch the video below:
The user, who boasts 583.2K followers on the platform, said they should “recognize and accept that a lot of people don’t see non-binary as a third gender, they see it as something completely separate from the binary of male and female”.
“But for me, it’s like a third gender,” they continued. “Or I guess you could call it a third identity.”
Skvarch said how they feel “gender-wise” is like a man, like a woman, and as neither “at the same time”. They also added in the caption of the video that they are “trans”.
Many people on social media commended the TikToker after explaining their gender identity.
One user applauded Skvarch for being “happy and comfortable with how they describe their identity” while another said: “I’m happy they’re in a place where they feel comfortable sharing their truth. Wishing them well!”
A third chimed in: “They seem comfortable in their identity which is so much more than many can say for themselves. Good for them!! I hope we can all find that sort of comfort, confidence, and certainty in ourselves.”

According to the gender wiki, there are three key aspects of trigender identity.
The first one is multiplicity, which “involves identifying with three specific genders,” and the second is fluidity – which means: “Some trigender individuals may transition between their three genders, while others might experience them concurrently.”
The third is diverse combinations, which is explained as: “The three genders can be any mix of binary (male, female) and non-binary identities.
“Trigender falls under the broader category of multigender identities, which encompass experiences of multiple genders,” the page wrote. “It’s distinct from bigender (identifying with two genders) and polygender (identifying with multiple genders, not limited to three).”
How one experiences life as a trigender is “unique to each individual” as it is “influenced by personal feelings, cultural background, and societal context”.
A skin abscess is a pocket of pus just under the surface of an inflamed section of skin. It’s usually triggered by a bacterial infection.
Abscess drainage is the treatment typically used to clear a skin abscess of pus and start the healing process. Smaller abscesses may not need to be drained to disappear.
Read on to learn more about this procedure, the recovery time, and the likelihood of recurrence.
What is an abscess incision and drainage procedure?
Before a skin abscess drainage procedure, you may be started on a course of antibiotic therapy to help treat the infection and prevent associated infection from occurring elsewhere in the body.
The procedure is typically done on an outpatient basis. If you have a severe bacterial infection, you may need to be admitted to a hospital for additional treatment and observation.
Prior to making an incision, your doctor will clean and sterilize the affected area.
Usually, a local anesthetic is sufficient to keep you comfortable. It’s administered with a needle into the skin near the roof of the abscess where your doctor will make the incision for drainage. Examples of local anesthetics include lidocaine and bupivacaine.
The abscess drainage procedure itself is fairly simple:
Your doctor makes an incision through the numbed skin over the abscess.
Pus is drained out of the abscess pocket.
After the pus has drained out, your doctor cleans out the pocket with a sterile saline solution.
The abscess is left open but covered with a wound dressing to absorb any more pus that is produced initially after the procedure.
A deeper or larger abscess may require a gauze “wick” to be placed inside to help keep the abscess open. This allows the tissue to heal properly from inside out and helps absorb pus or blood during the healing process.
Your doctor may send a sample of the pus to a lab for a culture to determine the cause of the bacterial infection.
Will you need a ride home?
If it isn’t possible to use local anesthetic or the drainage will be difficult, you may need to be placed under sedation, or even general anesthesia, and treated in an operating room. In this case, you’ll need a ride home.
If a local anesthetic is enough, you may be able to drive yourself home after the procedure. If the abscess is in a location that may affect your driving, such as your right leg, you may need a ride.
What’s the recovery like?
Recovery time from abscess drainage depends on the location of the infection and its severity.
The gauze dressing on the skin over the wound incision may need to be in place for a couple of days or a week for an abscess that was especially large or deep.
If this dressing becomes soaked with drainage, it will need to be changed.
If your doctor placed gauze wick packing inside of the abscess cavity, your doctor will need to remove or repack this within a few days.
You can expect a little pus drainage for a day or two after the procedure.
Your doctor may also prescribe antibiotic therapy to help your body fight off the initial infection and prevent subsequent infections. Pain relieving medications may also be recommended for a few days.
Within a week, your doctor will remove the dressing and any inside packing to examine the wound during a follow-up appointment. If everything looks good, you may be shown how to care for the wound and change the dressing and inside packing going forward.
For the first few days after the procedure, you may want to apply a warm, dry compress (or heating pad set to “low”) over the wound three or four times per day. This can help speed up the healing process.
You may also be advised to gently clean the area with soap and warm water before putting on new dressing. However, you should check with your doctor or a nurse about home care.
Healing could take a week or two, depending on the size of the abscess. During this time, new skin will grow from the bottom of the abscess and from around the sides of the wound.
Are there other treatments that can be used to heal skin abscesses?
An abscess doesn’t always require medical treatment. Milder abscesses may drain on their own or with a variety of home remedies.
You may be able to help a small abscess start to drain by applying a hot, moist compress to the affected area. This may also help reduce swelling and start the healing.
Other treatments for mild abscesses include dabbing them with a diluted mixture of tea tree oil and coconut or olive oil.
Soaking a cloth compress in hot water and Epsom salt and applying it gently to an abscess a few times a day may also help dry it out.
Will the abscess come back?
A skin abscess, sometimes referred to as a boil, can form just about anywhere on the body. A blocked oil gland, a wound, an insect bite, or a pimple can develop into an abscess.
If the infected area of your current abscess is treated thoroughly, typically there’s no reason a new abscess will form there again.
However, if the infection wasn’t eliminated, the abscess could reform in the same spot or elsewhere. Taking all of your antibiotics exactly as prescribed can help reduce the odds of an infection lingering and continuing to cause symptoms.
An abscess can also form after treatment if you develop a methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection or other bacterial infection. These infections are contagious and can be acquired in a hospital setting or through direct contact with another person who has the infection.
Your doctor will treat an MRSA abscess the same as another similar abscess — by draining it and prescribing an appropriate antibiotic.
What are the symptoms of a skin abscess?
The most obvious symptom of an abscess is a painful, compressible area of skin that may look like a large pimple or even an open sore. The skin around the abscess may look red and feel tender and warm. You may also see pus draining from the site.
Other symptoms may include:
swelling around the infected area
hardened outer layer of skin
fever or chills if the infection is severe
When should you see a doctor?
A small abscess with little pain, swelling, or other symptoms can be watched for a few days and treated with a warm compress to see if it recedes. You should see a doctor if the following symptoms develop:
The abscess grows.
You see pus (which is usually a sign of infection).
Redness and swelling forms around the sore area.
The area is warm to the touch.
You have a fever or chills.
How is a skin abscess diagnosed?
A doctor can usually diagnose a skin abscess by examining it. You should also be able to answer questions about your symptoms, such as:
when the abscess formed
whether it’s painful
whether you’ve had other abscesses
To identify the type of infection you have, your doctor may send pus drained from the area to a lab for analysis.
The takeaway
Abscess drainage is usually a safe and effective way of treating a bacterial infection of the skin. A doctor will numb the area around the abscess, make a small incision, and allow the pus inside to drain. This, and sometimes a course of antibiotics, is really all that’s involved.
If you follow your doctor’s advice about at-home treatment, the abscess should heal with little scarring and a lower chance of recurrence.
Why Blackheads Form in Your Ears and How to Treat Them
Your ears are particularly susceptible to blackheads because they often aren’t given the same preventive treatment as your face. Treatment can include exfoliation and acne treatments.
Blackheads are one form of acne, a type of inflammatory skin condition that’s caused by clogged pores. While blackheads are commonly linked to areas of the “T-zone” (chin, nose, and forehead), they can occur anywhere.
Unlike other types of acne, such as cysts, blackheads aren’t linked to bacteria. They’re caused by a combination of oil (sebum), dead skin cells, and dirt that clog your pores and create a hardened substance. The top of the pore is left open, and the plugged material oxidizes into a darkened color.
Read on to learn how blackheads are formed and how to treat them on your ears.
What causes blackheads?
Everyone has oil glands — in fact, these are necessary for natural skin hydration. Oil glands only become problematic if they become overactive and produce too much sebum. This is most often the case in people with oily or combination skin types.
The following risk factors can also increase your number of clogged pores, leading to more blackheads:
hormonal fluctuations
prescription medications
stress
family history
Although whiteheads also stem from clogged pores, they have closed heads. This creates the white cap that you see on the skin.
What treatment options are available?
You’ll follow the same steps to get rid of a blackhead in your ear as you would for blackheads on other parts of your body. The difference, though, is that the skin on your ears is more sensitive, and you also can’t see the area easily.
Consistency is also important — it can be easy to forget your ears compared to more visible areas, such as your face.
1. Wash your ears
One of the best ways to remove the excess oils and dirt that can build up in your ears is to wash them every day. This is easy to do in the shower, and you may even be able to use your regular face cleanser. You can use your fingers or a soft washcloth.
Choose gentle foaming, oil-free products, such as:
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel
Olay Clean Foaming Face Cleanser for Sensitive Skin
Avoid over-scrubbing your ears, as this can irritate your skin and cause more acne.
2. Exfoliate the area
You may already know that exfoliation is important for your face and body. It helps to remove dead skin cells that dull your skin tone and clog your pores. This also includes your ears. You can gently exfoliate the delicate skin surrounding your ears once a week. This is best to do the shower.
Apply the exfoliating wash with your fingers and rub gently. The following products may help:
Clarins One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser
Philosophy the Microdelivery Face Wash
Sephora Exfoliating Cleansing Cream
3. Apply acne medication
Certain over-the-counter (OTC) acne medications can also help unplug blackheads in and around your sensitive ears. Salicylic acid is a helpful OTC medication that works by unclogging pores and stripping away dead skin cells. Other acne medications like benzoyl peroxide are also useful.
Salicylic acid is available in numerous acne products. Astringents and toners are the most common, although some cleansers have it, too. When using a salicylic acid-based cleanser, such as Dermalogica Clearing Skin Wash, use this in place of a regular cleanser in the shower.
You can also use your regular cleanser and follow up with an astringent, such as Neutrogena Clear Pore Oil-Eliminating Astringent. When using an astringent, use once a day to start. If your skin doesn’t develop any irritation, you can apply twice daily in your ears with a cotton ball or Q-tip.
4. Consider extraction
Extraction may be a last resort for stubborn blackheads in the ear. Rather than using fingernails or bobby pins, you’ll want to buy an extraction tool that won’t leave marks or cuts on your skin.
Still, even professional-grade extraction tools can be difficult to use in your ears. You should:
First, press a warm washcloth on the area to soften the plugged pore.
Use a sterilized extractor by pressing the metal loop on the edge of the blackhead. Then, sweep it across to extract it.
Be sure you don’t press the tool directly onto your blackhead — this can cause your sensitive ear skin to tear.
Wash your ear and sterilize the extractor again after you’re done.
When to see your dermatologist
Although at-home blackhead removal methods can work for some people, it doesn’t work in all cases. If your blackheads come back in your ears, or if you have a widespread case throughout the area, it may be time to see your dermatologist.
A dermatologist can help with ear blackheads in a few different ways. With professional extraction tools, they can first remove the blackheads safely and thoroughly. This could be much more effective than doing the extractions yourself since you may not be able to see inside or behind your ear very well.
If you have recurring blackheads in the ears and other areas of the body, your dermatologist may prescribe acne medication. Keep in mind though that many of these products can make your skin sensitive to the sun, so be sure to wear plenty of sunscreen to avoid burns.
How to prevent future blackheads from forming
Another way to get rid of blackheads in your ear is to help prevent them in the first place. Such a task is dependent on keeping your ears clean and free of excess oil. Most of the treatments don’t treat the blackhead itself but prevent others from forming. Consider the following steps:

The viral incident unfolded on a GOL Airlines flight from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Belo Horizonte on December 4.
Jeniffer Castro – a bank worker in Brazil – refused to give up her window seat to a young boy.
The child reportedly already had a window seat in a different row but threw a tantrum, insisting on sitting in Castro’s assigned seat, News.com.au reports.
The 29-year-old stood her ground, declining to swap places with him. That decision didn’t sit well with the irate mother of the child, who decided to film the exchange while berating Castro.
In the clip, the woman behind the camera can be heard asking: “Why doesn’t she want to change seats? I even asked if she has some kind of syndrome or something. If someone has a problem, some disability, we understand.”
“I’m recording your face, this is disgusting. It’s the 21st century and people have no empathy for children,” she added, translated from Portuguese to English (per The Sun).
Despite the passenger’s insults, Castro remained calm, only asking if she was being recorded.
The footage quickly went viral on TikTok. Instead of condemning Castro, online users rallied to her defense.
Many praised her calm demeanor and supported her decision not to give in to pressure. “I admire her patience, lol,” one user wrote on TikTok, while another applauded her for keeping herself composed like a “diva”.
A third said: “I’m with you Jennifer Castro, the mother has to educate her children,” and a fourth added: ” I’m a mother and I would never do something like that… I wish I had that inner peace like Jenifer.”
The incident took place on GOL Airlines. Credit: NurPhoto / Getty
Castro addressed the ordeal during a recent appearance on the Cola Mais Podcast. She revealed plans to take legal action against the airline and the passenger who filmed her.
“Measures are now being taken,” she said, per New York Post. “What I went through wasn’t easy. The flight attendants could have asked me if I need anything, or if I was bothered by the passenger, but they didn’t. They stayed out of it.”
She recounted the tense flight, explaining that when she got on the plane, the child was in her seat. “I said, ‘This is my seat,’ and waited for him to leave,” she shared.
“A guy across the aisle said, ‘Change with him, you sit next to the aisle and he’ll have your place.’ I said, ‘No.’ The boy cried the entire flight, it was around 50 minutes. The mother was very rude,” she added.
Despite the backlash she’s faced from some corners of the internet, the woman says she’s grateful for the support. “I’m happy about all the support I received, although there were some online haters too. I still don’t know how to feel about it — I’m still trying to process everything.”

The chaos unfolded on January 19 during a fight led by Spanish matador Borja Jiménez at the 2025 Anniversary Fair at the José Garfias ‘Hechicero’ ranch.
The 32-year-old, who is known for his skill in the ring, had been performing with the bull before its unexpected jump.
In a video shared on Instagram, Jiménez is seen controlling the animal with his pink muleta as it charges and circles during the performance.
The heart-pounding moment occurred when the animal launched itself toward the seated audience, sending spectators scrambling for safety, per ABC News.
Photos shared on social media captured the terrifying incident. In one image, the bull is seen crashing into a wooden barrier, appearing to vault directly toward the startled crowd.
Spectators are shown leaning back in their seats, shielding themselves, while one woman jumps from her chair to escape.

Bullfighting remains a deeply controversial tradition worldwide.
The spectacle, which originated in Spain and was introduced to Latin America in the 1500s, faced a significant setback in Mexico City in June 2022, when a judge banned bullfighting.
However, after two years, the country’s Supreme Court of Justice overturned the ban, and bullfighting is once again being celebrated across the nation.
According to Humane Society International, globally an estimated 180,000 bulls are killed annually in bullfights, with even more injured or killed in related events.
The organization highlights the cruelty of the practice, stating: “Bulls suffer from a protracted death in the bullfighting arena, weakened and tormented both physically and mentally.”
Despite the criticism, bullfighting is a significant industry in Mexico, creating 80,000 direct jobs and 146,000 indirect jobs nationwide.
The National Association of Breeders of Fighting Bulls reports that the industry generates approximately $400 million annually.
Mexico City’s massive bullfighting ring, Plaza Mexico, is deemed the cathedral of Mexican bullfighting and is one of the three main bullrings in the world along with Las Ventas in Spain’s Madrid and La Maestranza in Seville.
Ohio woman, 43, tragically dies after falling in freezing yard while letting dog out, sheriff’s office says
A 43-year-old Ohio woman was tragically found dead in her yard – with authorities pointing to hypothermia due to the harsh winter conditions as a possible contributing factor.
Eugenia Michele Wadman was discovered outside her home in Willard, Ohio, on Sunday (January 19), per reports from local outlets WOIO-TV, WKYC, and the Norwalk Reflector.

The Huron County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call about an unresponsive individual just after 11:00AM.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found Wadman deceased in her snow-covered yard.
Preliminary findings from the sheriff’s office indicate that Wadman had taken her dog outside during the night while dressed in “only light pajamas”. Investigators believe she fell and sustained injuries consistent with “struggling and crawling on the snow- and ice-covered yard,” WKYC reported.
At the time of the incident, temperatures in the Willard area had plummeted to around 20°F (-6.667°C).
Temperatures that morning were believed to be well below freezing. Credit: Lokman Vural Elibol/Anadolu via Getty Images
With only light clothing, it is believed that Wadman likely succumbed to hypothermia as she struggled to recover from the fall.
“Hypothermia likely set in quickly due to the mid to low 20-degree temperatures,” the local sheriff’s office said in a statement
Deputies also noted that medical conditions could have played a role, but foul play is not suspected, per the Norwalk Reflector.
The Huron County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation, and an autopsy is being conducted by the Lucas County Medical Examiner.
A Stark Reminder of Winter’s Dangers
This tragedy comes amid a series of cold-related fatalities across the Midwest. Earlier this month, three others were found dead from suspected hypothermia in Ohio: a man in Norwood, an 83-year-old man in Cincinnati, and a 94-year-old woman from Franklin, WCPO reported.
Sadly, Wadman’s death is not the first tragedy of its kind this winter. Credit: Lokman Vural Elibol/Anadolu via Getty Images
In response to the freezing temperatures, local health departments have been issuing warnings about frostbite and hypothermia.
On January 22, Huron County Public Health shared a Facebook post listing hypothermia symptoms such as shivering, confusion, exhaustion, memory loss, slurred speech, and drowsiness.
Dr. Robert Thomas, an emergency physician at UC Medical Center, urged vigilance, telling WCPO: “If your skin is turning black, purple, blue, or gray, that would also be a reason to seek medical attention. Or if someone is more confused or sleepy than normal after being in the cold, or they complain of a bad headache, those are signs to watch for.”
Wadman’s tragic death serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers posed by extreme cold weather, particularly when individuals are inadequately dressed or exposed to the elements for prolonged periods.
As investigations continue, officials urge residents to prioritize safety during frigid conditions.
Our thoughts go out to Wadman’s family and loved ones at this time.
California woman shares haunting final exchange moments before incident killed boyfriend and dog
A devastating high-speed crash in San Francisco has left a young woman grieving the loss of her boyfriend and her dog, as she recovers from serious injuries in the hospital.

The tragedy unfolded on Sunday evening (January 19) when Linh Luu and her boyfriend, 27-year-old Mikhael ‘Misha’ Romanenko, were on their way to pick up her grandmother and aunt for a trip to the airport.
Also in the car was the couple’s miniature Golden Doodle, Keeper.
“I don’t understand why it happened the way it did, and I don’t know how I’m alive,” Luu told ABC 7 in a video interview from her hospital bed. “Honestly, I want to trade places with him.
“He had such a purpose in this world.”

A Night of Tragedy
The crash happened just after 6:00PM at the intersection of 6th and Harrison streets.
According to police, a black Tesla barreled into seven vehicles, including a Waymo autonomous car, traveling at a reported speed of 98 miles per hour. Luu’s memories of the crash are fragmented, but one moment remains heartbreakingly clear.
“I remember looking over to him and saying, ‘I love you,’ and him saying, ‘I love you too,’ back to me,” Luu shared. “It was just one moment… after that, I was being wheeled into different rooms.”
Romanenko and Keeper did not survive the crash.
Seven other individuals were also left injured as a result of the devastating wreckage.
Luu, who suffered multiple broken bones, is now left grappling with the aftermath and replaying the moments she can remember.

“I do have a flashback of when I was back in the car and he was motionless,” Luu said tearfully. “It was like, ‘Oh my God, Misha,’ and he wasn’t responding. That’s all I remember.”
Driver Facing Charges
San Francisco police have arrested 66-year-old Jia Lin Zheng in connection with the crash. Zheng has been charged with vehicular manslaughter.
A police report obtained by ABC7 News anchor Dion Lim noted that Zheng did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol.

Hours after his arrest, a blood alcohol screening confirmed no presence of alcohol in his system. Zheng reportedly told investigators that he had been pressing the brakes, but the Tesla failed to slow down.
District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has since emphasized the importance of a thorough investigation, per the Daily Mail.
‘It is critical that we take the time to diligently comb through all of the evidence and gather as much information as possible so that we’re able to make the correct charging decision,’ she said in a statement.
A Call for Change
From her hospital bed, Luu is reflecting on the safety of the intersection where the crash happened.
“I really want to know exactly what happened,” she said. “The way Sixth Street exists, you can go as fast as you want until you hit that stoplight, right?”
While struggling to process the loss, Luu is determined to keep Romanenko’s memory alive.
“He was just so much joy being around him,” she said. “Anyone who crossed paths with him in his life would definitely have a story or two about how he made them laugh, how he put a smile on their face.”
A Message to Others
As the investigation into the crash continues, Luu is urging others to cherish their loved ones and take nothing for granted.
“After losing everything and everyone, the love of my life,” Luu said, “Just please, hug your loved ones. Tell them you love them.”
Romanenko’s heartbreaking death marks the city’s second traffic fatality this year, while 2024 saw 41 lives lost to vehicular crashes. The intersection has also been described as a “hotspot” for accidents.
Speaking to San Francisco Chronicle, Luu said: “Something needs to be done.
“Just knowing how many car accidents and hit-and-runs there are, it is very hard to accept that it continues, leaving so many people in pain.”
The investigation is currently ongoing.
Our thoughts go out to Luu, the Romanenko family, and every person impacted by this tragedy.
