SNL alumni Pete Davidson has revealed a new clean look after removing a lot of his old ink

Comedian Pete Davidson has made headlines for his new look, which has reportedly cost him a hefty amount to achieve.

Best known for his work on Saturday Night Live, the 31-year-old has also branched out into roles in films such as Bodies Bodies Bodies and Big Time Adolescence in the past few years.

While you may know the American actor for his numerous high-profile relationships, you might also recognise him from his heavily inked body.

But it looks like Davidson has had an awakening in recent years, taking the necessary steps to get rid of the ink.

Speaking on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he said that he had 200 tattoos, but is currently in the ‘horrible’ process of removing them.

“Really think about that Game of Thrones tattoo you’ve been thinking about getting,” he joked to the audience.

The gruelling experience is ‘worse’ than getting tattoos according to Davidson, who explained: “Well, they’ve got to burn off a layer of your skin. And then, it has to heal for like six to eight weeks, and you can’t get in the sunlight.”

He repeated that process ‘like 12 more times’, while a source close to him told People: “He just woke up one day and wanted them gone, and it’s been a years-long process.”

The comedian said on the Today show that his reasoning behind the move is he ‘got sober’ and couldn’t recognise himself.

Now, the comedian has officially revealed his new look, which has reportedly cost him $200,000 (£161,300) in procedures, during an advert for clothing company, Reformation.

He stars in a three-minute video where he announces that he is the ‘Official Boyfriend of Reformation’, acting like a good partner to women trying on numerous outfits.

But it was the photos released on the sustainable clothing company’s website that left people’s jaws on the floor, as the SNL alumni was seen with almost no ink on his body.

Posing topless or in not much else apart from underwear in the snaps, Davidson seemingly looks pleased with his new look, which is a drastic change from the appearance that so many are used to with the comedian.

It isn’t clear if makeup was used to cover up some of the ink, given that remnants were showing during his recent TV appearances.

However, it looks like he’s almost there, as his torso looks clear of any ink, with Davidson eager to show off his new body,

While some editing may be at play, it looks like most of his ink is gone (Reformation)

Fans took to Reddit to share what they were thinking, with one writing: “That is some very impressive laser tattoo removal, you can hardly see them now.”

Another wrote: ” I’m really happy for him though, he’s seemingly put his everything intro rehabilitating himself.

“He’s looking healthier and happier than ever yet remains his authentic goofy self which we love.”

However, a third said: “These are doing absolutely nothing for me. Reading the comments, I‘m definitely in the minority though.”

The performer-turned-protester was ejected from the stadium after the Super Bowl stunt

A dancer has been banned from NFL events and stadiums for life following a protest during the Super Bowl halftime show.

The incident took place during Kendrick Lamar’s highly-anticipated gig at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday (9 February).

Amid cameos from stars including SZA, Samuel L. Jackson, Serena Williams and DJ Mustard, as well as thinly-veiled shots being fired at Drake, viewers had a lot to pay attention to.

So when a brief protest began to unfold on the pitch, it’s no wonder a lot of people weren’t sure whether it was a part of Lamar’s show.

However, the NFL and Roc Nation have since spoken out to insist it definitely was not.

During the gig, one of Lamar’s dancers was seen suddenly unveiling a banner which combined the flags of Palestine and Sudan.

The man began his stunt while standing on a car which was part of the rapper’s elaborate prop set up, before he was then seen leaping off the bonnet.

The dancer then fled from the stage while security frantically tried to catch up with him.

Footage shows how the flag waver give some of the football stars a run for their money with his speed, although he was eventually brought down by staff.

The NFL later confirmed that the person responsible was a part of the 400-strong cast who were on the field for the show.

The New Orleans Police Department told LADbible in a statement: “The individual detained in this incident, an adult black male, was ejected from the stadium after the incident.

“No arrest nor summons was issued. As such, the individual will not be identified.

“The NOPD continues to work with NFL and the halftime production team to ascertain any affiliation the individual may have had with the halftime show.”

According to the NFL, ‘the individual hid the item on his person and unveiled it late in the show’.

It added that ‘no one involved with the production was aware of the individual’s intent’.

The punishment which the performer-turned-protester is in for has now been confirmed by the NFL, too.

The man will not face any criminal charges, according to reports, but has received a lifetime ban from US football stadiums and events.

In a statement to NBC, an NFL spokesperson said: “We commend security for quickly detaining the individual who displayed the flag. He was a part of the 400-member field cast.

“No one involved with the production was aware of the individual’s intent. The individual will be banned for life from all NFL stadiums and events.”

Roc Nation, which produced the halftime show, also insisted it didn’t have any idea about the flag stunt.

A statement explained that it ‘was neither planned nor part of the production and was never in any rehearsal’.

Security expert Will Geddes told LADbible that the protester being able to conduct his demonstration so publicly was a ‘massive failing of security by the stadium’.

Gaza and Sudan are two particularly war-torn areas of the world, and US president Donald Trump has recently said that America was ‘committed to buying and owning Gaza’, according to the Associated Press.

Jawed Karim changed the internet forever when he uploaded this video on 23 April, 2005

We live in the age of content creation, where anyone can make money from posting videos on the internet for others to watch.

It’s a concept that would have seemed alien to many 20 years ago, but in that same time period, aspects like social media have also caught on – the internet is very different nowadays.

One of the most popular platforms out there is YouTube, founded on 14 February 2005, where the likes of KSI, Pewdiepie and MrBeast made a name for themselves.

But none of these household names were behind the platform’s first video.

YouTube is one of the most popular sites in the world (Mateusz Slodkowski/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images)

YouTube is one of the most popular sites in the world (Mateusz Slodkowski/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images)

Titled ‘Me at the zoo’, the video was uploaded on 23 April, 2005 and featured a man named Jawed Karim talking in front of an elephant enclosure.

He said: “All right, so here we are in front of the elephants. The cool thing about these guys is that they have really, really, really long trunks… and that’s cool.

“And that’s pretty much all there is to say.”

Karim was actually one of the co-founders of YouTube, along with fellow American software engineers Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, all of whom worked for PayPal beforehand.

Though he would never upload another video again, he has accumulated over 348 million views on the clip (at the time of writing) as well as over 5.2 million subscribers.

Known as being the second-most visited website in the world after Google, nobody could have predicted the success that YouTube would go on to have.

While Hurley and Chen were majority shareholders in the site, Karim started out as an advisor while holding a much lower share in the company.

This didn’t stop him from benefitting from the site’s sale to Google in October 2006, as they acquired YouTube for $1.65 billion in Google stock, earning Karim around $64 million (£51.6 million) in shares. Not too bad.

All of that money was made without Karim ever taking a ‘salary, benefits or even a formal title’ from YouTube, according to the New York Times.

After selling the site, Karim invested in two other mega-successful ventures, being one of Airbnb’s first investors.

Karim started investment venture YVentures with partners Keith Rabois and Kevin Hartz in 2009.

The video seems simple and uneventful, but it would lay the foundation for future creators, in sharing aspects of their lives with their audience.

While Karim never uploaded on the channel again, he has edited the description and title of the original video to send messages across.

When Google tried to make YouTube users create Google+ accounts so that they could leave comments, he wrote: “Why the f*** do i need a Google+ account to comment on a video?”

Along with the rest of the YouTube community, they forced Google to go back on their decision, even shutting Google+ down for good in 2019.

When the site removed dislike counts, Karim wrote in the video’s description: “When every YouTuber agrees that removing dislikes is a stupid idea, it probably is. Try again, YouTube.”

But while Karim cares deeply about the site after all these years, he has managed to stay out of the limelight and live his life.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:45PM local time when a Learjet 35A veered off the runway after landing and crashed into a stationary Gulfstream 200 business jet, per the Mirror.

The jet is owned by Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the details, stating: “A Learjet 35A veered off the runway after landing and crashed into a Gulfstream 200 business jet on the ramp at Scottsdale Municipal Airport in Arizona around 2:45PM local time Monday, Feb. 10. We do not know how many people were on board. The FAA is temporarily pausing flights into the airport.”

Emergency services rushed to the scene, where two individuals were taken to the hospital while another remained trapped. Video footage showed multiple ambulances and fire engines surrounding the wreckage.

Scottsdale Airport released a statement acknowledging the accident: “An accident has occurred upon arrival to runway 21. Fire Department is on scene assessing the situation. Scottsdale Airport’s runway is currently closed.”

The Scottsdale Fire Department then confirmed one fatality and multiple injuries.

“We had five patients we treated. One was a fatality, we had two immediate that were transported to local trauma centers, we had one delayed patient and one patient that refused treatment,” Scottsdale Fire Department Captain Dave Folio said, via the Daily Mail.

Mötley Crüe acknowledged the tragedy in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), confirming the pilot’s death and pledging support for the victim’s family.

“Earlier today, a private plane owned by Vince Neil was involved in a crash near Scottsdale, AZ. The pilot was tragically killed; the co-pilot and other passengers were taken to local hospitals,” the band stated.

They added: “Vince was not on the plane. Vince‘s girlfriend and her friend suffered injuries, albeit not life-threatening. While details are still emerging, our hearts go out to the families about the pilot who lost his life in the passengers who suffered injuries.

“Mötley Crüe will announce a way to help support the family of the deceased pilot—stand by for an announcement very soon.”

Neil, who was not on board at the time of the crash, expressed his condolences through his legal team.

“Mr. Neil’s thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved, and he is grateful for the critical aid of all first responders assisting today,” his attorney said in a statement released by Worrick Robinson Law.

Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky extended condolences to those affected by the crash.

“Today, Scottsdale sadly experienced an aircraft accident at our airport. Based on the information provided thus far, it appears at least one person is dead after two jets collided on the runway at Scottsdale Airport,” Borowsky said.

“We are closely monitoring the situation, and we are in touch with airport, police, and federal agencies and will update the community as we have further information. On behalf of the city of Scottsdale, we offer our deepest condolences to those involved in the accident and for those who have been taken to our trauma center for treatment. We will keep all affected by this tragedy in our prayers.”

Travis Kelce’s 'reaction to Taylor Swift being booed at Super Bowl 2025' revealed

Travis Kelce’s ‘reaction to Taylor Swift being booed at Super Bowl 2025’ revealed

Travis Kelce had an emotional reaction to his girlfriend Taylor Swift getting booed at the Super Bowl.

Swift received an unexpectedly chilly reception during Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, where she was in attendance to support her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Despite being one of the world’s most recognizable celebrities, Swift was met with loud boos from the crowd when she appeared on the stadium’s jumbotron.

In widely circulated videos, the singer appeared to acknowledge the negative response, offering a humorous side-eye. She was also seen turning to rapper Ice Spice and seemingly asking: “What is going on?”

Tennis legend Serena Williams quickly showed her support, posting on X (formerly Twitter): “I love you @taylorswift13 don’t listen to those booo!!”

Some speculate that Eagles fans may still hold resentment over Swift’s past comments about the team.

During her 2023 Eras Tour stop in Philadelphia, Swift addressed speculation about whether lyrics from her song Gold Rush referred to the Eagles football team or the rock band. She clarified: “There was sort of a, I don’t know how large the debate was, but I did see the debate about how a lyric that says ‘with my Eagles T-shirt hanging from the door’ … I saw some people wondering if it was the band Eagles or the team the Eagles.”

“And I love the band the Eagles,” she continued, before adding: “But guys, like come on. I’m from Philly. Of course it’s the team,” per Billboard.

Since dating Kelce, however, Swift has become a vocal supporter of the Chiefs, a shift that has not gone unnoticed by Philadelphia fans.

Kelce, who had just endured a tough night after the Chiefs’ loss, struggled with the crowd’s treatment of Swift, according to a source cited by the Daily Mail.

“Travis was aware of Taylor getting booed and he felt helpless. Seeing the look on her face got to him,” the source revealed.

“He always protects her and it broke his heart. He was already having a tough night and the fact that the stadium was predominantly Eagles fans didn’t help. Travis knows that this hurt her and anyone can see this.”

The insider suggested that Swift’s reception may have been fueled by lingering resentment from Eagles fans, who view her as “a traitor of sorts” due to her Pennsylvania roots and former support for the team. Since dating Kelce, Swift has been a prominent Chiefs supporter, a shift that has not gone unnoticed by die-hard Eagles fans.

Adding to the controversy, former President Donald Trump took to social media to mock Swift, amplifying the stadium’s reaction.

Trump, who made a brief appearance at the game, later trolled Swift on Truth Social, writing: “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!”

The remark was particularly stinging given that Kelce had previously expressed his appreciation for Trump’s attendance, calling it a “great honor.”

While Trump was spotted in the stands early in the game, he did not stay for long, leaving the stadium by halftime after the Chiefs struggled in the first half.

A train that was traveling from Pennsylvania to Delaware burst into flames as 350 people were onboard.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) train was near Crum Lynne, Pennsylvania, when the fire broke out around 6:15PM.

Dramatic images from the scene show thick, grey smoke billowing from the train, with bright orange flames consuming a carriage.

Passenger Dnasia Buckner, speaking to Fox News, described the harrowing experience, noting that she first detected smoke about 15 minutes into the journey.

“We had to get up and relocate to another car and then we had to get up and relocate again and that’s when I started to see smoke coming from the side of the train,” she said.

“As people were walking by, they said the train’s on fire, but the conductors aren’t saying anything.”

Eventually, conductors opened the train doors and directed passengers to evacuate. Buckner estimated the evacuation process took approximately 15 minutes.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames, while service to Wilmington was suspended. The fire also disrupted Amtrak service along the Northeast Corridor.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch praised the train crew’s swift response.

“Very quick action by our crews that that helped allow this to be a safe outcome,” Busch stated.

“We don’t know where this started, just that it was in the area underneath the train and then obviously engulfed the train in flames.”

This is just one of what seems to be a string of disasters on public transport since the start of the new year.

There have been a notable number of plane crashes, including the tragedy in Washington D.C. that claimed 67 lives.

A more recent plane crash unfolded in Alaska, which sadly took 10 lives.

The aircraft, carrying nine passengers and one pilot, departed from Unalakleet at 2:37PM on Thursday, en route to Nome, approximately 150 miles away.

Less than an hour into the flight, the plane lost contact with officials, prompting an immediate search operation. Rescue crews later located the wreckage about 34 miles southeast of Nome.

The pilot has been identified as Chad Antill, 34, of Nome.

The passengers were Liane Ryan, 52, and Andrew Gonzalez, 30, both of Wasilla; Kameron Hartvigson, 41, Ian Hofman, 45, and Rhone Baumgartner, 46, all of Anchorage; Donnell Erickson, 58, of Nome; Jadee Moncur, 52, of Eagle River; and Talaluk Katchatag, 34, and Carol Mooeres, 48, both of Unalakleet.

Elon Musk has revealed that the public “won’t be seeing” Kanye West’s X account after the rapper’s shocking online rampage.

As previously reported, the 47-year-old musician – who caused uproar on the Grammys red carpet last week – took to the social media platform to share a series of expletive-ridden tweets.

On Friday (February 7), a string of posts shared from West’s X account included anti-Semitic declarations such as: “I love Hitler. Now what b****es,” and “I’m a Nazi.”

The ‘Runaway’ star also shared a post that read: “I’m never apologizing for my Jewish comments,” and added: “ANY JEWISH PERSON THAT DOES BUSINESS WITH ME NEEDS TO KNOW I DON’T LIKE OR TRUST ANY JEWISH PERSON AND THIS IS COMPLETELY SOBER WITH NO HENNESY…SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE JEWISH AND, I DON’T TRUST ANY OF THEM.”

In addition to the hateful tweets aimed at the Jewish community, West voiced his support for the disgraced rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is currently locked up on federal charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.

He also doubled down on his controversial 2018 “slavery was a choice” statement and claimed that he has “dominion” over his wife, Bianca Censori.

As a result of his inflammatory posts and offensive slurs, X slapped a “sensitive content warning” on the ‘Gold Digger’ rapper’s account.

There were calls for Musk, the owner of X, to remove West’s account from the platform.

According to Sky News, the Campaign Against Antisemitism group condemned West’s posts in a statement, saying: “Once again, Ye has gone on an antisemitic rampage online. It couldn’t be any clearer that he is an unrepentant, proud antisemite.”

“At a time of unprecedented antisemitism, there can be no mistaking this incitement for exactly what it is. We call on Elon Musk to remove him from X,” they added.

Friends star David Schwimmer also spoke out against the musician, taking to Instagram to call out both the business mogul and West’s presence on X.

“Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X. That’s twice as many people than the number of Jews in existence. His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews,” he wrote.

“I don’t know what’s worse, the fact that he identifies as a Nazi (which implies he wants to exterminate ALL marginalized communities including, his own) or the fact that there is not sufficient OUTRAGE to remove and ban him from all social media at this point,” he said, adding: “Silence is complicity.”

Three days after unleashing a string of antisemitic, misogynistic, and racist posts, the ‘Donda’ rapper seemingly deactivated his own X account.

Before logging off, he left behind a bizarre farewell message, thanking Musk for letting him vent. “I’m logging out of Twitter. I appreciate Elon for allowing me to vent. It has been very cathartic to use the world as a sounding board,” he said, cited by The Independent.

“It was like an Ayahuasca trip. Love all of you who gave me your energy and attention. To we connect again. Good afternoon and good night,” he added.

Having given up lifting weights he has now spoken out about his ‘abusive’ childhood

Warning: This article contains discussion of child abuse which some readers may find distressing.

Once known as ‘Little Hercules’ across the globe, Richard Sandrak has made a heartbreaking admission 25 years later.

The lad earned the title at just eight-years-old, as he was tipped as the ‘world’s strongest boy’. But having stopped lifting weights as an adult, there have long been theories about what Sandrak’s life growing up was really like.

Having been working out every day since he was just five, he was able to bench press three times his own body weight, become a global phenomenon as the media covered the young bodybuilder’s story.

And during that time, Sandrak says he was being abused.

The now 32-year-old’s childhood was far from normal but it wasn’t totally something he was used to, as he ‘had nothing to compare it to’.

After struggling with alcoholism, Sandrak is now over a year sober, free from the controlling influences he grew up with.

“When people talk about a childhood memory, it’s usually associated with something positive. I can’t really relate. For me, it was a daily occurrence to where I was physically and emotionally abused by my dad,” he told Metro.

The former body builder explained his physique came as a result of ‘working out eight hours a day, constant weight training and a diet of pure clean eating.’

Sandrak’s parents, Lena and Pavel, homeschooled him and he grew up without any friends, experiencing a very different upbringing to other kids at the time.

“My father would often go into rage fits and what would start as a normal workout ended up with me doing a triple split kick [performing three consecutive kicks in a single motion] for 12 hours,” he claimed.

“I’ll never forget it, because it was just extremely exhausting and emotionally heavy. And there were more times than I can count where a simple training session turned into what felt like a really intense hostage situation.”

At around the age of eight or nine, he recalled having to do non-stop squats while watching a film.

“That was something I got used to because that was my entire childhood. That’s how I was raised. I had nothing to compare it to. I didn’t have a friend to tell me, that’s not what we do,” he claimed.

“I got physically beaten into it. My dad was very abusive. I learned early on not to ask to stop. You grit your teeth and keep doing what you’re told.”

Being in the limelight and meeting celebrities did bring some positives, including the fact his dad would have to treat him properly in public.

“It was a very confusing childhood. I don’t recall too many pleasant memories, until after my dad left,” he added.

Sandrak has since left bodybuilding behind (YouTube/Inside Edition)

Sandrak called 911 on his father after a particularly violent assault on his mum in 2003.

He said he had always been too fearful to make ‘that dramatic step’, but with the abuse getting worse he made the leap: “And I called them, told them not to sound their sirens, and they came and they took him away. It’s been a breath of fresh air ever since.”

Pavel was imprisoned for abuse and deported to his home nation of Ukraine.

The former ‘Little Hercules’ has not seen him since, with no interest in reconnecting and no apology from the father.

“I will always hold resentment towards him. They say ‘forgive and forget’. I may be willing to forgive, but I will never forget,” Sandrak said.

Serena Williams’ sister was brutally killed by gang member as fans question Crip Walk at Super Bowl

Yetunde Price, sister to Serena and Venus Williams, was shot in the head by a gang member in Compton, California

Serena Williams is one half of arguably the most famous tennis siblings of all time. But their family is one marred by tragedy, with the sister of Serena and Venus Williams brutally killed in a fatal drive-by shooting.

The shocking incident resurfaced in the aftermath of the Super Bowl LIX, which saw 43-year-old Serena going viral after making an appearance in Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show.

During the show, Serena appeared on one of the stages doing a Crip Walk dance during Kendrick’s performance of ‘Not Like Us’. A Grammy award winning song, it was created as a diss towards Kendrick’s rival Drake, who Serena was heavily rumoured to have dated between 2011 and 2015.

Viewers were left somewhat shocked by Serena doing the Crip Walk, or C-Walk, after realising the links between the dance and the gang that killed her sister.

Crip Walk explained

Created in the 1970s by Robert Jackson, known as ‘Sugar Bear’, he was a member of the Crips gang that operate out of Los Angeles.

An extremely violent street gang, with a history of murders, robberies, and dealing drugs, the dance was used by members to signify their allegiance to the Crips.

It found itself way in to the rap subculture along the West Coast of the USA, with artists such as Snoop Dogg, Ice-T, and Ice Cube performing it over the years during their concerts.

Serena has opted to perform the Crip Walk on a number of occasions during her life.

After winning gold medal at the 2012 Olympics at Wimbledon, she performed the signature dance move on Centre Court with sister Venus cheering her on from the family box.

She also did it in June last year when presenting at the ESPY Awards.

“Not a single one of us, not even me, should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar,” she said in an apparent reference to her alleged ex Drake’s beef with the Compton rapper.

Serena danced the C-Walk once again at the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans, appearing with Kendrick during his performance of ‘Not Like Us’. Speaking about the song, she previously said: “When they play that jam, I’m jamming. That jam is jamming.”

Killing of Serena Williams’ sister and fan realisation

Following Serena’s Crip Walk performance at the Super Bowl, some viewers were alerted to the Crips connection to the Williams family through the shocking killing of Yetunde Price.

Yetunde was the half sister of Serena and Venus. But back in 2003 when she was just 31, she was shot in the head in a drive-by shooting by a Crips gang member.

Parked up in her SUV with her boyfriend, they had inadvertently positioned the car outside of a crack house in Compton. Crips gang members guarding the house got suspicious before opening fire on the car, believing it to be connected to a rival gang.

One bullet was shot in to Price’s head, with her being pronounced dead shortly after when in hospital.

Robert Edward Maxfield, then 25, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter the day before the third trial for Price’s killing. The first two trials had ended in a mistrial.

Serena and her family were naturally devastated by the loss, with her saying in 2004, as per PEOPLE: “She was a wonderful person. We’re dealing with it however we can. Some days are better than others.”

Those watching the Super Bowl took to social media after discovering that Serena’s sister had been killed by a Crip gang member.

Reacting to Serena then doing the famous Crip Walk on TV, one viewer said: “Serena Williams’ sister was killed by a Crip in a drive-by shooting and she had the audacity to Crip Walk during Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show… indefensible.”

Another wrote: “You have the audacity to Crip Walk when your sister was killed by a Crip.”

And a third said: “Oh my God… why did I just find out Serena Williams sister was killed by Crips… she must really hate Drake cause what the f**k?”

Responding to previous suggesting the dance glamorised gang violence, sister Venus said: “It was just a dance.”

On performing at the 2025 Super Bowl, Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian posted to Instagram saying: “Some of y’all have no idea how criticised Serena was for this same dance at Wimbledon 13 years ago, and it shows. This is bigger than the music.”

The mum was ‘gobsmacked’ after realising what the symbol meant

A mum has demanded that Poundland stop selling ‘sexually inappropriate’ kids underwear after finding out what a symbol on the front meant.

Nicola Pritchard bought a four pack of the £2.50 knickers from Poundland – where due to economic factors things no longer all cost a pound to buy – for her 10-year-old daughter.

However, they were confused over what a symbol on the front of the clothes meant and after translating it the 40-year-old mum said she was ‘gobsmacked’ to discover what it said.

Running the symbol through a translator she found that it meant ‘cat’ or ‘pussycat’ in Japanese and Chinese.

She immediately contacted Poundland to complain about the symbol and said the product should be taken off the shelves. Poundland said the clothes were part of a wider Japanese-themed cat range and they ‘understand why’ the mum contacted them.

“They were in a pack of four and you could only see the front pair was gingham,” Nicola said of the Poundland pants she’d bought for her daughter.

“None of them had anything to do with Japanese symbols apart from this random one in the pack. When I took them home, she asked me ‘what does this mean Mum?’ I said ‘I don’t know, I didn’t notice it’.

“So I put into Google Translate and Google Lens and it said that the symbol on the front of her knickers is the slang term for cat. In other words, it’s ‘pussy, puss, moggy’, something like that.

“If the pants had anything to do with cats, like pictures of cats or something like that [that would be fine] but there’s no correlation as to why this symbol should be on there, especially on children’s pants.

“I was absolutely gobsmacked. These come in ages three to four in Poundland.”

She emailed Poundland and claimed they told her they’d investigate the matter, but says that when she went into the shop a few days later she could see the underwear was still being sold.

Nicola said ‘it seemed like they weren’t taking this seriously at all’ and found it ‘baffling’, though she reckons that ‘Poundland didn’t know’ the mistake they were making and she doesn’t ‘think they’ve done it intentionally’.

She’s hoping the clothes are recalled before others buy them for their children.

A Poundland spokesman said: “While these are part of a wider Japanese-themed cat range that includes socks and vests, we understand why Nicola questioned one item out of the context of the whole range.

“It goes without saying we apologise for that, and we appreciate her getting in touch with us.”
