Juror on A$AP Rocky trial claims rapper was found not guilty for surprising reason

One of the jurors from A$AP Rocky’s trial has made a bold claim about what she really thought

A$AP Rocky was given a not guilty verdict in his felony shooting trial last night (19 February), and one of the jurors has explained why she acquitted him.

Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers, was told by a judge that he faced anywhere between 10-24 years behind bars after an incident that took place in November 2021.

The ‘Sundress’ artist was charged with two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm in connection with a shooting, which saw him arrested in April 2022.

Mayers was accused of assaulting former friend A$AP Relli, real name Terell Ephron, in the incident.

Mayers did not take the plea deal offered to him, which would’ve seen him serve a six-month jail sentence and probation for pleading guilty to one of the charges, and prevailed in the end.

The rapper celebrated the verdict by jumping into the benches behind him in court to celebrate with loved ones.

Rihanna took to social media after the verdict, writing: “The glory belongs to God and to God alone,

“Thankful, humbled by His mercy.”

But now, just one day after Mayers’ good news, one of the jurors has made a bold claim about why she thinks the ‘Everyday’ artist was acquitted.

Speaking to TMZ, she claimed that a crime could have been committed, but explained: “Unfortunately they didn’t have enough evidence to convict on the charges that were handed down to us.”

The jury consisted of seven women and five men, and this juror claimed that some of them believed that the alleged prop gun was real.

She added that she thought it was ‘mysterious’ that it disappeared and could not be used as evidence.

Mayers’ attorney, Joe Tacopina, was adamant that it was a prop gun the rapper’s friend said he was known to carry around.

The juror added that she believed none of them were influenced by the involvement of Rihanna or the couple’s two sons in their decision.

To conclude, she highlighted that they were all focused on delivering justice, and listened to the court’s instructions before deciding on a collective ‘not guilty’ verdict.

Tacopina commented on these claims to TMZ, claiming: “The system obviously worked.

“This is only one juror, but she focused on the lack of evidence and reasonable doubt, which is where we focused our defence.

“She also mentioned that the jury’s first vote was immediately 10 for not guilty, which is why they took only three hours!”

The lawyer further alleged that he spoke to three separate jurors who said that the decision wasn’t a close one, and they believed Mayers had a prop gun.

Crime scene cleaner reveals the ‘most horrendous’ thing he has seen on the job

Crime scene cleaners Tom DeSena and Steve Walters admitted there are certain jobs which have stuck with them

A pair of crime scene cleaners have opened up about their ‘wild’ job, including the horrors of particular crime scenes which have never left them years on.

It’s hard to imagine the harrowing sights those who work in crime scenes are confronted with day in day out, but for crime scene cleaners Tom DeSena and Steve Walters, there are still some that stand above the rest.

While most of what we know of crime scenes comes from Netflix true crime documentaries and sensationalised blockbuster thrillers, Tom shares a glimpse into what it’s really like over on his TikTok account @thesoulmediators, where he posts some of the most gruesome and shocking fatalities he cleans up across the US.

His videos show the harrowing extent of what’s left behind after police have collected evidence, with several of the gruesome clips going viral among true crime fans feeding their morbid fascination.

Admitting he’d never initially planned to get into this industry, Tom, from New York, graduated from university with a degree in criminal justice but struggled to find the right job, until an ad for his current company popped up on Indeed and he just ‘ran with it’.

“I was like, You know what? This looks interesting. It’s not something that I’m scared of,” he told LADbible.

His colleague Steve, however, was already acquainted with the world of death.

Steve was a licensed funeral director for a decade before moving into crime scene cleaning after deciding to ‘help families another way’.

When a job comes in, the pair will be sent a document containing the location, a brief description of what happened and some contact information.

“Usually, the first thing we’ll do is we’ll go in, we’ll meet the family, we’ll say sorry for your loss, or we’ll give condolences, try and make it a little more comfortable for the family or whoever it is,” Tom explained.

“We’ll take pictures, we’ll update our office. They’ll kind of see the damage, or they’ll see what exactly we’re dealing with. We take room measurements. There’s a lot of paperwork that goes into it, too. So, we do that stuff. We start setting up machines.

“Each job is different, though. Sometimes, if it’s not a long [body] decomposition, maybe we’ll clean a little first. If it’s been a long time, we’ll run some certain machines and we’ll let it sit for a little bit. If there’s a lot of bugs, like roaches, we’ll run bug bombs.”

The Florida-based duo have seen it all – from unattended deaths to gruesome shootings and even murder-suicides, but there’s one scene that’s been forever burned into Tom’s mind.

In late 2022, he walked into the job he’ll ‘never forget’.

“The customer was a man maybe in his 50s. The incident was a suicide-homicide. So they were all military veterans, three brothers. The youngest brother, I guess he had a lot of issues. It was a while ago, but I remember – and the older brother came to the house. The younger brother lived with the mum because I guess he wasn’t in good shape,” he said.

“Something happened. They got in some disagreement or whatnot, and the older brother came in, and he had a key to the house, and he went in the house when the brother was by himself, and he must have been going through some episode, and he had a machine gun, and he had a whole barricade set up in the living room, he set up the couches, and he set up blankets and stuff. And it was kind of sheltering himself, like he was in a war.

“And you can imagine, as soon as the older brother opened the door, he did that [killed him], and then he went down in the basement, and he took his own life as well. And it was really wild. I mean, it was really, really wild.”

Meanwhile, for Steve, a job in North Carolina has been forever etched into his memory.

“The parents were in the early 20s, maybe 21,22 and they had a three-year-old son.

“Their house was kind of connected to their parents’ house – they lived in the back of it, and they had a dog, I’m not going to say the breed, but the dog got a hold of the three-year-old son, and you could just go in and close your eyes, and you could just picture how the dog had the child in its mouth, which is tearing its head, and there was just blood spattered everywhere.

“And when we first got there, the parents, they wouldn’t even go into the house. And then by the time we were done, I got them, they were able to walk through the house, and they were feeling better. So, yeah, that’s one of the ones that come to mind.”

For Tom and Steve, death is just a part of their daily lives, but there are some aspects they still struggle to contend with even now – one being the smell.

The pair said the smell can be hard to stomach (Supplied)

It’s the kind of thing that ‘stays on our clothes’, says Tom, who admitted the duo can change their outfit two or three times during a ‘big job’.

“The smell stays and it sticks on porous surfaces. So let’s say you pass away in the bedroom. Closet door’s open. All the clothes in the closet stink, all the couches if the door’s open in the living room, all fabric, window blinds and stuff. They all stink.

“A lot of times there are flies as well if it goes longer than a couple days. So, those flies fly around the house. They fly into the buyouts. It gets nasty. The smell is horrible.”

“The only way to really describe it is it’s a smell you can taste,” says Steve.

Of course, many people will be wondering why on earth anyone would want to work a job like this, but for Tom and Steve, the answer is clear – who else is going to?

“Maybe people don’t want to do it, but who’s going to do it?” Tom says.

“Who’s going to do it for these families and help them? Because they’re not going to do it and we’re not going to do it. So who’s going to do it? The police don’t do it.

“If we like it and we do it, well, that’s all that really matters.”

The former Playboy model shared her thoughts on her daughter’s ‘lucrative’ OnlyFans account

The Housewife of Beverly Hills star is set to front a new reality show, alongside her three daughters, Denise Richards & Her Wild Things, on 4 March.

She described the series as ‘another crazy chapter’ in the family’s life, as viewers will get a glimpse of the ins and outs of their world.

Speaking to PEOPLE magazine, Denise said: “I swear, it’s never calm, ever.”

The former Playboy model has three children – Sami, 20, Lola, 19, and Eloise, 13.

Eloise was adopted by Denise as a child, and has a chromosomal disorder that has caused some developmental delays.

Speaking about her youngest daughter, Denise said: “Eloise is very observant and understands everything.

“Sometimes when the girls go at each other, she just raises her eyebrows and then they laugh and can get past whatever stupid thing they’re fighting about.”

Denise also revealed her thoughts on her eldest daughter’s OnlyFans account, which she started when she turned 18.

Sami, who makes content for the platform, said: “I really wanted to get an apartment and I knew that working at the candy shop I was working at wasn’t going to cut it.

“So I went to the next best thing and made an OnlyFans.

“At first, I didn’t understand what OnlyFans was,” her mum noted.

“When I saw that she was getting backlash for owning her sexuality and doing what she wanted to do, it upset me as a mom and also as a woman in business.”

However, Denise quickly realised that making content on the platform could be ‘quite lucrative’.

Not long after, she started an account of her own.

“Whatever makes her happy.”

The eldest daughter revealed she was happy about the new show, and had been prompting her mum to start documenting the family’s life for years prior.

Sami added: “Anything that went wrong or happened in our family, I would say, ‘Where are the cameras? We need to be filming this.'”

She also said the sisters ‘couldn’t be more different’.

“I love her. We are just walking in completely different paths and that’s okay,” she noted.

Denise said that the family are just ‘trying to be themselves’ throughout the series, which has ‘always been her approach’ to reality TV.

Why Donald Trump Left So Early and ‘The Worst Part of the Super Bowl’

The sitting U.S. president made history by attending the Super Bowl. One aspect left him less than pleased despite the excitement, and he shared what soured the experience.

Donald Trump attended Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025, in New Orleans but departed before the fourth quarter. While his decision to leave sparked curiosity, he later shared what stood out as “the worst part of the Super Bowl.”

The president’s departure may have left questions unanswered, but the match delivered a decisive outcome. The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Kansas City Chiefs, securing a 40-22 victory.

Fans at home had multiple viewing options, some at no cost, while those in attendance paid a premium. The most affordable seats — located in the upper levels of the Superdome — started at $2,920 on StubHub and $3,000 on Ticketmaster, with some priced as high as $5,000.

Ticket packages sold by the NFL began at $6,700, offering perks such as meet-and-greets, tailgate parties, and complimentary food and drinks. On average, a ticket cost $8,076 in the weeks leading up to the match, according to CBS Sports.

The most expensive seats, near the Chiefs’ sideline, ranged from $8,650 to $12,000, though prices had peaked at $22,663 just a week earlier.

While the Eagles’ triumph and ticket prices captured attention, the halftime show became another major talking point. Kendrick Lamar’s performance drew widespread interest, especially amid speculation surrounding his feud with Drake.

Trump’s attendance also made history, as he became the first sitting president to be present at a Super Bowl. He was photographed standing for the national anthem alongside New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson and his daughter, Ivanka Trump.

Despite his historic attendance, Trump’s early departure did not go unnoticed. The businessman and former 45th president left before the end, sparking a debate across social media.

One X user remarked, “Donald Trump just left the Super Bowl early after watching KC get walloped after saying he was rooting for them. So much winning.”

Another referenced Chiefs’ tight end Travis Kelce’s comments about playing before the president, “Imagine saying ‘it’s an honor’ for Trump to watch you play at the Super Bowl only for him to leave early cause y’all was getting beat so bad. LOOOOSSEEERRRRRR [sic].”

Others shared similar sentiments, with one posting, “thinking about travis saying it’s an honor to have trump at the super bowl just for him to leave halfway through the game because they were playing so badly [sic].”

However, not everyone criticized his decision. One user argued, “President Trump gives reporters enough to write 100 stories a day—you don’t need to misrepresent what happened. He was always slated to leave early.”

Another noted the logistics of his exit, “Imagine the security nightmare for Secret Service if he stayed until the end and left at the same time as everyone else [sic].” A separate post called out Mail Online’s description of Trump’s departure as “mysterious,” dismissing the characterization as exaggerated.

While opinions varied on the president’s early exit, some criticized the cost to taxpayers for attending only part of the game. However, records show that his White House schedule had him departing at 8:05 p.m. Central Time, meaning his early departure was planned in advance.

The decision was part of a carefully coordinated operation that allowed him to become the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl. Ensuring the safety of a high-profile figure in a massive venue poses significant challenges, which is why presidents often avoid large-scale public events.

When they do attend, security measures from the U.S. Secret Service and local law enforcement can disrupt normal proceedings.

To minimize logistical hurdles, it is not uncommon for presidents to leave before an event concludes. Otherwise, stadium security would need to hold back an audience of nearly 80,000 until the president had safely exited.

While Trump’s early departure drew attention, he found a rule change on the field the most frustrating. After the game, he criticized the NFL’s new kickoff rules.

Implemented this season for player safety, the updated rule stops the kicking team from advancing until the receiving team touches the ball. While aimed at reducing collisions, it has drawn criticism — including from Trump, who reaffirmed his stance post-game.

“The worst part of the Super Bowl, by far, was watching the Kickoff where, as the ball is sailing through the air, the entire field is frozen, stiff. College Football does not do it, and won’t! Whose idea was it to ruin the Game?” he wrote in a Truth Social post.

In previous years, the collision often caused injuries on special teams. Now, kickoff units start five yards apart between the receiving team’s 35- and 30-yard lines and can’t move until the ball is caught.

According to the NFL’s operations website, the rule was introduced “to address the lowest kickoff return rate in NFL history during the 2023 season and an unacceptable injury rate on kickoffs.” The Competition Committee will review its renewal in 2025.

However, Trump’s criticism of the new kickoff format is nothing new. During an appearance on the “Let’s Go!” podcast, he voiced his disapproval to hosts Jim Gray and Bill Belichick, “[…] I watch football now and I see that kick off, and it looks weird to me. That thing looks weird, coach,” he told Belichick.

The New Yorker added, “I don’t know. I hope you like it, but I think it hurts the game. I think when you have something good, you don’t change it. I don’t see why it’s safer. Why is it safer? They’re still crashing.” Trump stated that if the coach approved of the rule, he was fine with it.

However, recalling his initial reaction, he questioned the change, saying he had watched it for the first time weeks earlier and thought, “What the hell are they doing to football?” Despite the controversy surrounding the new kickoff rule, the recent game itself made history for other reasons.

Philadelphia’s win marked the second Super Bowl title and stopped the Chiefs from becoming the first team in NFL history to secure a three-peat. The NFL championship delivered more than just a decisive Eagles victory — it became a spectacle of historic moments, off-field drama, and heated debates.

From Trump’s unprecedented attendance and early departure to Taylor Swift’s mixed reception and Kelce’s struggles on the field, the night stirred conversation beyond the final score. Meanwhile, the president’s criticism of the NFL’s new kickoff rule added another layer to the post-game discourse.

While the Eagles celebrated their championship win, the Chiefs fell short of making history, and the reactions surrounding the event ensured that its impact would linger well beyond the game itself.

Tomb of missing pharaoh found in biggest discovery since 1922

The tomb of Pharaoh Thutmose II was thought to have been lost to history but a new Ancient Egyptian discovery has changed everything

The tomb of Ancient Egypt’s ‘missing pharaoh’, lost for 3,500 years, has finally been found following renewed efforts to locate the historic chamber.

And it is a once in a century discovery, with it the first royal tomb to be discovered by Egyptologists since the unveiling of King Tutankhamun’s tomb 103 years ago in 1922.

The new find was conducted under the watch of a joint Egyptian and British archaeological mission, spearheaded by the Supreme Council of Antiquities and the New Kingdom Research Foundation.

With a focus set on finding the tomb of King Thutmose II, attention turned to an area of Ancient Egypt found 2.4 kilometres west of the Valley of the Kings in Luxor’s western mountain region.

Thutmose II was the fourth Pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty of Egypt, reigning from 1493 BC to 1479 BC, meaning he died a staggering 3,503 years ago. He is considered one of Ancient Egypt’s greatest leaders.

Labelled a ‘remarkable’ discovery by Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, it was found during excavation and research work at a location that had previously bee labelled ‘tomb Wadi C-4’. The entrance and main corridor to this location were initially discovered in 2022 with years of research taking place since then.

This week (18 February), new evidence has ‘definitively’ identified it as the tomb of Pharaoh Thutmose II.

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, hailed the excavation and emphasised the significance of this discovery in revealing further secrets and treasures of Egypt’s ancient civilisation.

Dr Mohamed Ismail Khaled, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, explained that when the entrance and main corridor of the tomb were uncovered in October 2022, the team initially believed it to be the tomb of one of the royal wives of the Thutmosid kings.

This assumption was based on its proximity to the tombs of King Thutmose III’s wives and Queen Hatshepsut’s tomb, which she had originally prepared as a royal consort before ascending the throne as pharaoh.

But excavation work on the site continued and has now unearthed new archaeological evidence that identified the tomb’s owner as Pharaoh Thutmose II, with artefacts inscribing his name found within the tomb.

The excavation leader and field director, Piers Litherland, from Cambridge University, said: “This discovery solves a great mystery of ancient Egypt: the location of the tombs of the early 18th dynasty kings. The tomb of this ancestor of Tutankhamun had never been found because it was always thought to be at the other end of the mountain near the Valley of the Kings.

“Initially we thought we might have found the tomb of a royal wife, but the wide staircase and the large doorway suggested something more important.

“The discovery that the burial chamber had been decorated with scenes from the Amduat, a religious text which is reserved for kings, was immensely exciting and was the first indication that this was a king’s tomb.”

The dilapidated condition of the tomb was thought to be as a result of historic flooding in the area, moving debris in to the chamber that has become densely packed over time.

This is also why the tomb is partially collapsed, with the structural integrity of the site weakened due to natural disaster events.

Amy Schumer reveals the three days every year she has sex with her husband

Comedian Amy Schumer opened up about how often she gets intimate with her husband of seven years

Amy Schumer can be added to the list of celebrities that overshare about their sex lives.

We’ve recently had the likes of Nicole Kidman talk about not wanting to ‘orgasm anymore’ while on set for a film, and Katy Perry admitting that she gives fiancé Orlando Bloom oral sex for completing a household task.

You may think it’s all a bit much, and Schumer hasn’t exactly been tight-lipped when it comes to the subject, previously joking that a sex scene with John Cena in 2015 flick Trainwreck involved penetration.

The WWE star has since denied this, as he wore a ‘modesty pouch’.

But now, Schumer has seemingly gone one step further, spilling the beans when it comes to her own intimacy away from the screen.

The 43-year-old actress revealed all to PEOPLE at the SNL 50th Anniversary Special, speaking candidly on the red carpet about her marriage to American chef Chris Fischer.

She spoke about the couple’s recent seventh wedding anniversary, having tied the knot on 13 February 2018, and then went right into the thick of it.

“Yes. Seven years. We had sex. We did,” she told the news publication.

The celeb then revealed that they only do the deed three times a year in the years following their star-studded private ceremony in Malibu seven years ago.

When asked if she only gets it on once a year, she revealed: And birthdays. And birthdays. Yeah,” bringing the total up to three.

Schumer, whose film Kinda Pregnant dropped on Netflix earlier this week, has a five-year-old son named Gene with her husband, as she has previously spoken about how their lives don’t really allow for spontaneity in the bedroom.

Speaking on The View earlier this month, she revealed that the weekend of SNL’s 50th anniversary show fell just after their seven-year milestone, before opening up on her sex life.

Schumer said: “Well, actually, that is the weekend of the SNL 50th. So I think I get a plus-one.”

Joking that she would ditch Fischer if he wasn’t allowed in, she then explained: “But no, we’re pretty corny. We will make love. We will make sweet love.”

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg butted in to ask: “During the 50th?”

As Schumer replied: “During the 50th!”

The I Feel Pretty star went on: “We do birthdays… we do schedule it, we do schedule it. Nobody ever is like, ‘Oh!’ There’s never like, a vibe where it just happens. Do people do that?”

The show’s co-host Sunny Hostin agreed, saying that you should ‘schedule time to get it in’.

Apple officially launches brand new iPhone with breakthrough feature everyone wanted

Apple will be introducing the iPhone 16e

Apple has announced its latest smartphone after Tim Cook cranked up the hype machine for ‘the newest member of the family’.

Given the way the company tends to release its iPhones the expectation is that this was going to be a new entry in the iPhone SE range.

Apple almost always releases its newly numbered iPhone in September, with the latest in that range being the 16, and it would seem to be a few months too soon for the next one in the pipeline.

However, the SE range has typically been released much earlier in the calendar year, prompting speculation that Apple has been getting ready to unveil the SE 4, instead it appears to be called the 16e.

Apple claims this one will have ‘extraordinary battery life’, which has always been a bit of a bugbear on the backs of iPhone users.

Pre-orders for the device will open on 21 February, and the first phones will go on sale right at the end of the month on 28 February.

Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, said: “iPhone 16e packs in the features our users love about the iPhone 16 lineup, including breakthrough battery life, fast performance powered by the latest-generation A18 chip, an innovative 2-in-1 camera system, and Apple Intelligence.

“We’re so excited for iPhone 16e to complete the lineup as a powerful, more affordable option to bring the iPhone experience to even more people.”

While there’s only a solitary camera on the back of the thing it is a 48 megapixel powerhouse which Apple says ‘is like having two cameras in one’.

According to the site, prices for the iPhone 16e will start at £599 for the model with the least storage space at 128GB.

If you want to kick things up to 256GB it’s expected to set you back £699, while the top of the range iPhone 16e will have 512GB of memory and is expected to sell for £899.

The phone also comes with a range of features that’ll work when it’s outside coverage areas, with Apple’s Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, and Find My via satellite still functioning.

You can have the new phone in whichever colour you like, as long as it’s black or white.

The phone uses Apple’s latest-generation A18 chip, which the company says can be up to 80 percent faster than an iPhone 11.

Basically, if you want an iPhone 16 but don’t want to pay iPhone 16 prices this seems like your best bet.

Chaise Longue’s concept designs could soon become a reality as Airbus is reportedly interested in the idea

Aviation giants Airbus have announced that they’ve opened discussions with start-up business Chaise Longue.

If you recognise that company, it’s probably because they went viral for unveiling their designs for potential double-decker plane seats.

They really went the distance, unveiling economy and business class seats, though a lot of people on social media wrote it off as a long shot at best.

The man behind the idea is over the moon (CHAISE LONGUE)

Chaise Longue was founded in Madrid by CEO Alejandro Núñez Vicente, going from a university project idea to a reality in the travel world.

In a statement to CNN Travel, an Airbus representative stated: “Chaise Longue is exploring some early stage concepts with Airbus on two-level seating solutions for Airbus commercial aircraft.”

They did explain that ‘given the nature of this early phase level’, the company would prefer ‘not to further comment at this stage’.

Vicente took to LinkedIn to share the good news, detailing that they aim to ‘disrupt aircraft seating with their two-level concepts’.

“It’s the dawn of a new era for commercial aviation, so I hope that you are as excited as we are with this announcement and that soon, you can be crossing the skies in a more comfortable, spacious and two-level seat,” he wrote.

The idea behind the design is to remove the overhead cabin to allow for teo levels of seats in a regular cabin, with a one-up, one-down design.

While one row of seats would be on a raised platform, another would be below it on normal level, eliminating the reclining issue as you wouldn’t directly be in front of anyone.

You may initially think that the top row is more appealing, but those in the bottom row have more legroom, while the top row are given ‘larger recline angles’ with enough space to stretch your legs, according to Vicente.

The worry from those online was that the bottom row may cause claustrophobia, a concern that was confirmed by CNN Travel, with online users quipping that they’d be directly in line with a passenger’s behind and any gas they choose to pass.

“With some common sense and maturity you should be able to find your answer,” Vicente said of the situation, adding: “Gas in general doesn’t go through solid objects like seat cushions, seat covers and plastic shells.”

CNN Travel also added that the increased leg room would cancel out this worry.

These discussions are still ongoing though, as Núñez Vicente can’t elaborate on the type of cabin that the potential collaboration with Airbus would focus on.

He also couldn’t speak about any new concepts or designs, with there being no available images about these designs.

Vicente highlighted that the goal with his company is the same though, to ‘optimise the space’ for the benefit of airlines and passengers.

Government announces new recycling rules meaning every UK household will have four different bins

Government announces new recycling rules meaning every UK household will have four different bins

You’ll have to be more careful when it comes to getting rid of waste

The British government are set to introduce new recycling measures which will change the way we get rid of our waste for good.

If you thought having the standard two or three bins was confusing, strap in, because you’re in for a nasty surprise.

These changes could be put into motion as soon as March, as the Labour government have called the current bin collection methods ‘confusing’ and ‘muddled’.

Back in 2023, the Tories suggested that homes have up to seven bins for different kinds of waste, but luckily, we’re gravitating away from this notion.

But these changes are all for the environment, after all.

An official document titled ‘Simpler Recycling in England: policy update’, has been released, stating that homes and workplaces will require just four containers for separate types of waste.

“This is the government’s maximum default requirement and is not expected to increase in the future,” the policy update reads.

It goes on: “However, councils and other waste collectors will still have the flexibility to make the best choices to suit local need.

“This is a sensible, pragmatic approach to the collection of materials for every household and business in England.”

This would create a recycling policy to be closely followed across the UK, and one of the main goals is to eliminate ‘bad-smelling food waste’, which will be taken from households at least once a week. What a time to be alive.

Those in charge of these changes hope that it will encourage Brits to recycle more, as the rates have remained around the 44 percent mark since 2015.

Now, there’s a clear timeline that the government hope to follow over the next couple of years.

There are a number of things they want to achieve by certain dates.

31 March 2025

Businesses and other relevant non-domestic premises in England must arrange for core recyclable waste items, such as glass, metal, plastic, paper and card, and food waste, to be collected, except for garden waste.

Smaller businesses (those with less than 10 full-time employees) are temporarily exempt from this, until 31 March 2027.

Local authorities must collect the aforementioned core recyclable waste streams from British households, including a weekly food waste collection for the majority of homes.

This is mandatory unless a transitional arrangement applies.

Two years from now, they aim to introduce kerbside plastic film collections from businesses and non-domestic premises.

Households will also be introduced as a part of this measure.

When it comes to food and garden waste, local authorities and residents have been given more leeway.

The document reads: “There is no evidence that this would affect their ability to be recycled or composted, since the materials can always be processed through in-vessel composting when mixed.”

They advise that you keep paper and card separate from other dry recyclables to avoid contamination and remain recyclable.

Apparently, 121 local authorities in England already carry out a separate paper and card collection.

It is said that other dry recyclables will be gathered together to help recycling rates increase, though 95 local councils already co-collect these materials.

“Simpler Recycling will enable consistent, more streamlined collections from all households, businesses and relevant non-domestic premises (such as schools and hospitals). Local authorities and other waste collectors will be able to co-collect some waste streams by default meaning that they will no longer need to collect 7 separate streams,” the document adds, calling them ‘common-sense changes’.
