Man who battled four brain tumors reveals bizarre symptom he experienced before diagnosis

The dad-of-one noticed one particularly strange occurence before he received his devastating diagnosis

A dad who has had to fend off four brain tumors over the last 14 years has revealed the bizarre symptom he experienced before his diagnosis.

Dan Horrocks, 33, was first diagnosed with a brain tumor back in August 2011 after receiving a free eye test at an opticians.

The optician noticed swelling on Dan’s optic nerves during the eye scan, and just one day later he was having brain surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Birmingham, UK and a round of radiotherapy.

But just when Dan thought the nightmare was over, three years later in 2014 he was diagnosed with another brain tumor, then a third in 2018, and finally another in October last year.

Following his latest round of treatment, Dan has revealed an unusual symptom he experienced before one of his diagnoses – and it’s bizarre.

Ahead of his third diagnosis, Dan said he started craving olives – despite having never liked them before. And not only that, but he also started craving spinach and tomatoes for breakfast too.

The third tumor was picked up in a routine scan, but Dan and his wife, Sonia Khan, noticed the unusual symptom beforehand.

All of Dan’s tumors have been ependymomas – rare tumors which usually affect children around age five or adults around age 45.

He had brain surgery in November and spinal surgery in December for his latest diagnosis, but the tumors are in cells which line the paths where cerebral spinal fluid moves through the spine, and the cancer could come back anywhere in his spine or brain.

Doctors have said that Dan has had the maximum radiotherapy they can safely give him on the NHS, and chemotherapy is only likely to be 14 percent successful in treating his tumors.

Now on his ‘last roll of the dice’, Dan is raising money to go to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, to explore new treatments including genetic testing to find a personalized remedy.

He and his wife have raised over $60k (£50k) so far – exceeding their fundraising goal by over $10k.

The money will be spent on travel and consultations – including genetic tests on Mr Horrocks and his tumor samples – to see if a personalized treatment can be found.

Dan was diagnosed with his first of four brain tumors after suffering excruciating headaches, sickness, and dizziness. He had to learn to walk, talk and ‘think’ again after his first surgery.

Following the influx of donations for his fundraising mission, Mr Horrocks said he was ‘bowled over’ by the generosity he’s received.

He said: “I’m so shocked and overwhelmed with how quickly the money has come in. This could be the first step towards an innovative new treatment we can bring to the UK.

“The NHS staff have all been amazing – they said they can do surgeries but not much else more. That felt a bit like the end of a road and I’ve always tried to avoid that.”

Darren Carvill is back behinds bars after stealing from his employer

An employee who stole over $325,000 from the company he worked for spent most of it in just two days during a ‘weekend of madness’.

We’ve all had heavy weekends where we have spent a bit too much on food and drink, right? But imagine spending over $300,000 in a single weekend.

I mean, it’s not possible for the vast majority of us, but it was for Brit Darren Carvill, who began by defrauding Mr Clutch, a car servicing company in the UK.

Back in 2019, he was jailed for two-and-a-half-years after spending the majority of the stolen $325,000 (around £260,000) on partying in London, while he was also seen taking cocaine and with as many as ten female escorts, LBC reports.

After serving his time in prison for that crime, Carvill changed his surname to Medhurst, which allowed him to get a job as a finance assistant for 360 Travel, an independent travel agency in the UK.

The conman then got back to his old ways, stealing over $95,000 between July and August 2022 from the travel company, a court heard. And after suspicions grew there and Carvill was even the subject of a police investigation, he decided to start a new gig at the hotel chain Holiday Inn.

Carvill’s new employer became suspicious when he began acting strangely and even stopped showing up to shifts at one point.

The employee claimed his mom had dementia, though later admitted to officials in a police interview he took the money to ‘make himself feel better’.

Prosecutor Stacey-Lee Holland said: “He said he had been down at the time and this was a way to make himself feel better.”

Speaking of what happened at the second job, the travel agency, the prosecutor said: “He entered the office, completed a refund of £9,784 ($12,100) and paid it onto his bank card. He did that almost immediately on having entered work that day.

He has previously spent time in prison for fraud-related crimes (Facebook)

“He then went into the cash office, opened the safes and removed £3,261 ($4,000) in cash, hiding it in his jacket.

“He was blatant in his actions because, as he left, he lifted his jacket, showing the cash, and said to a colleague ‘See you in the morning’ and left the hotel.”

Meanwhile, Katie Bacon, Carvill’s defence lawyer, said he had ‘deep remorse’ over his fraudulent actions.

He had 57 previous convictions, with a staggering 52 of them being fraud-related offences.

Following the Holiday Inn incident, Carvill now faces a period of three years behind bars.

Speaking to him in court, Judge Julian Smith said: “You are not a victim. Others are the victims. Your name carries that stain of dishonesty by what you did. By not declaring it is misrepresenting your background. You may want to wipe the slate clean. You can’t do that by not declaring.”

MrBeast gets unrestricted access to Great Pyramids of Giza and people are shocked at what's inside

YouTuber MrBeast received 100 hours of exclusive access to the famous Pyramids

MrBeast was lucky enough to receive unrestricted access to the Great Pyramids of Giza, and what he found inside left his fans stunned.

The YouTuber – real name is Jimmy Donaldson – documented what it was like to spend 100 hours exploring Egypt’s Great Pyramids.

Joined by renowned Egyptologist and former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities of Egypt, Dr. Zahi Hawass, the crew were granted exclusive access to tombs, tunnels and chambers that have remained off-limits to the public for centuries. Along the way, the expert addresses the popular myths surrounding the pyramid’s origins with true, jaw-dropping evidence and ancient illustrations.

Their journey began inside the Great Pyramid of Giza, where the crew explored a royal tomb believed to have once held a mummified pharaoh.

“4,600 years ago, this chamber may have contained the king’s mummified body,” MrBeast described in the video, adding that: “This is where the pharaoh was buried.”

The adventure then leads the group into seldom-seen locations, such as the submerged Tomb of Osiris where ‘very few humans have ever been’.

The submerged tomb has a symbolic connection to the afterlife, Dr. Hawass explained and legend has it that the tomb was ‘a gateway to the underworld’.

MrBeast added: “This sarcophagus is allegedly the portal to the underworld and virtually no humans have ever been here before.”

Does it get cooler than this? You bet!

After cutting their exploration short in the tomb due to ‘low oxygen levels,’ the group moved on to the Great Sphinx of Giza, where rumours of buried treasure have circulated for centuries.

Here, MrBeast decided to add his own piece of history and leave a ‘letter for the future’ along with his own golden artefact – a ‘Gold Swarm’ collectable worth $10,000.

“I guess the internet conspiracy theories are right because the Sphinx definitely has gold in it now, thanks to the rarest Swarm in the world,” the 26-year-old remarked.

The viral video has already racked up over 65 million views on YouTube and safe to say, fans are in complete awe over the footage.

“As an Egyptian, this is the first time I see and hear about the things shown in this video!” the first comment read, as another viewer wrote: “I’m Egyptian and this is the first time to see this magical footage inside our pyramids, thank you for this effort and you are welcome any time in Egypt.”

“Ok this is by far the coolest vid you’ve ever made,” another viewer added.

Meanwhile, some fans wanted more footage, arguing: “We need an extended cut of this, must be hours worth of cool content”.

To wrap up the adventure, MrBeast and his crew scaled to the very top of the Great Pyramid. But this was not before ‘struggling through narrow passageways’ and a 300-foot tunnel to reach its lowest depths.

Chrissy Teigen responds after photo of her taking bath with her children sparks major backlash

The former Lip Sync Battle host’s parenting decision has come under scrutiny

Chrissy Teigen delivered a biting response to a critic who objected to a photo she shared on Instagram of her and her children bathing together.

39-year-old Teigen and her husband John Legend, 46, have never shied away from sharing intimate snapshots of their family with their social media followers.

The celebrity couple, who have been married since 2013, share four children, who regularly feature in selfies and candid snaps taken in their Beverly Hills home.

Unfortunately, one recent upload has irked some Instagram users, forcing the former Lip Sync Battle host to defend its inclusion in a carousel.

The image that fans have seemingly taken aim at is a picture of Teigen in the bath with three of her four children—Miles Theodore, six, Esti Maxine, two, and Wren Alexander, 19 months.

Their oldest daughter, Luna Simone, eight, does not feature in the picture. Instead, her three younger siblings are smiling for the camera while enjoying some downtime in the tub with their mother.

As well as the bath image, the TV personality’s carousel features a video of the kids seemingly listening to music in the back of a car, as well as a video of Teigen getting her eyebrows laminated.

There are also a few clips of the cookbook author posing in front of mirrors included in the post, which was uploaded with the caption ‘BAHHHHHHHHHHH’.

Hundreds have flocked to the comments section to have their say, with most centralising on the controversial bath picture.

One user typed: “Why do people post stuff like this on social media???” as a second remarked: “This a moment that should be kept private… naked kids and a naked adult in the bath together should be the last thing someone thinks about putting out on the internet whether it was innocent or not…”

Another query that has appeared on the post reads: “Why is she always in dirty bathwater?”

Teigen has actually responded to this user with a brutal 11-word takedown, writing: “It’s a coconut milk bath for sensitive skin but go off!”

The mum-of-four’s clapback has already racked up over 8,400 likes and has seen a plethora of fans rushing to praise her for the no-nonsense response.

“The people with zero clues always ring in…,” typed one, while a second said: “It has to be exhausting sometimes trying help people use critical thinking. Stay strong!”

Someone else wrote: “It’s really sad how people have to bash you. I think you’re wonderful mother doesn’t listen to people. I guess you’re used to it, but people are evil.”

Elsewhere, another of Teigen’s followers penned: “These kids have a better relationship with their parents than any of you mom shaming her.. lol.”

Last year, the star found herself in hot water after her husband uploaded a video of her soaking off her ‘body makeup’ in a bathtub.

“Currently getting roasted online for being dirty because no one listened the the audio where I say I’m soaking off body makeup (to shower after!) full blown fights in John’s comments,” she said, sharing the video with her own Instagram followers.

“My favorite is ‘baths are not for bathing’. I love a good old fashioned roasting though, u guys are killing it (it being never touching grass ever).”

In reply to the backlash, Legend later commented: “Baths are not for bathing is some amazing internet-ness.”

Starbucks is giving away free coffee today

Starbucks is giving away free coffee today

A barista makes a coffee at a Starbucks location in New York, US, on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023.
CNN —

Starbucks is offering a rare perk on Monday: free coffee.

Under CEO Brian Niccol, the coffee chain has drastically reduced its deals and giveaways in an attempt to boost its bottom line. But it’s offering one more freebie the day after the Super Bowl, when the nation might be drowning in drowsiness.

Here’s how to get the free brew: Members of the Starbucks Rewards loyalty program can activate a coupon in the Starbucks app on Monday for one free, tall-sized (12-ounce) hot or iced coffee. They can redeem the coupon Monday by ordering on the app or in person at stores.

The freebie is tied to broader changes Niccol is rolling out at Starbucks, which were the focus of commercials that aired Sunday before and after the Super Bowl on Fox.

The first 60-second spot showed baristas opening Starbucks locations for the day and writing on cups with Sharpies, with a voiceover saying the “Starbucks you love is back … hello again.” And a 15-second ad promoted Monday’s deal.

Starbucks has recently instructed employees to write simple, personalized messages on cups, such as affirmations, well wishes and “hello again” for regulars. Some Starbucks baristas, however, told CNN that writing out messages on every cup has slowed down the pace and is a “forced” way to build connections with customers.

Other changes rolled out under Niccol include reimagining the vibe inside Starbucks’ locations — for example, bringing back condiment bars and offering free refills on some drinks for customers who stick around in the shop to enjoy their beverages. The company also tweaked its name to “Starbucks Coffee Company” to reinforce its coffee roots.

In the coming months, Niccol plans to slash 30% of Starbucks’ menu to simplify its offerings, reduce wait times and improve customer experience.

Tuna cans sold at Trader Joe’s, Walmart and Costco recalled due to contamination risk

The recall came after a manufacturing defect in the tuna cans’ ‘easy open’ lids was discovered

On Friday, Tri-Union Seafoods announced a voluntary recall of select canned tuna products sold under the Genova, Van Camp’s, H-E-B, and Trader Joe’s brands. These products were distributed nationwide at retailers such as Walmart, Trader Joe’s, Costco, Kroger, and Publix.

According to the press release, Tri-Union Seafoods initiated the recall after its supplier discovered a manufacturing defect in the tuna cans’ “easy open” lids. The defect could “compromise the integrity of the product seal (especially over time), causing it to leak, or worse, be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum,” a bacteria that causes foodborne botulism and can be fatal.

According to the U.S. World Health Organisation, “Clostridium botulinum can grow and produce toxins in food prior to consumption.” Eating foods with this bacteria can result in foodborne botulism, with symptoms including “fatigue, weakness, and vertigo, usually followed by blurred vision, dry mouth, and difficulty in swallowing and speaking.”

Tri-Union Seafoods urges consumers not to eat the recalled product, even if it “does not look or smell spoilt.” Consumers should also seek medical attention immediately if they’re not feeling well.

As of February 10, “no illnesses associated with the recalled products have been reported, and the recall is being conducted to ensure consumer safety.”

The recalled tuna cans with the H-E-B label were sold at retail stores in Texas. Meanwhile, the tuna cans withTrader Joe’s labels were sold in stores in 19 different states, including New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

The Genova seven-ounce cans were sold at Costcos in Florida and Georgia. The Genova 5-ounce cans were sold at Harris Teeter, Publix, H-E-B, Kroger, Safeway, Walmart, and independent retailers in 10 different states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, and Georgia.

Tuna cans with the Van Camp’s label were sold at Walmart and independent retailers in Pennsylvania, Florida, and New Jersey.

All recalled products will have specific Best By dates and UPC numbers listed at the bottom of the cans. Tri-Union Seafoods has included all the Best By dates and UPC numbers of the tuna cans in its press release.

If you have the recalled tuna cans, you can either return them to the store you bought them at for a full refund or throw them away. Tri-Union Seafoods also noted that you can contact them “directly for a retrieval kit and a coupon for a replacement product.”

“This recall does not impact any other Tri-Union Seafoods products, as no other product packaging was impacted by this potential defect,” the company noted in the press release. “Tri-Union Seafoods is committed to upholding the highest safety and quality standards.”

This year has already witnessed a slew of food recalls issued in the U.S. Last week, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a report about 60 different baked goods from FGF, LLC, which were distributed in grocery stores throughout the U.S.

The recall, which was completed in January, affected a range of baked goods, from cake donut rings, raspberry-filled donuts, french crullers, bavarian-filled doughnuts, Dunkin’ Doughnuts’ products, including two of its munchkin flavours, and more.

According to the FDA, a total of 2,0176,614 cases of the different baked goods have been recalled due to the “potential for contamination with listeria,” a bacteria that can contaminate many foods and cause infections.

Last month, D. Coluccio & Sons announced it was recalling its 300-gram packages of “Colussi Cantuccini Chocolate Drops” because they may contain undeclared almonds. This poses the risk of “serious or life-threatening allergic reactions” to consumers with tree nut allergies, per the FDA.

The recall was initiated after it “was discovered that the almond-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of almonds.” A subsequent investigation indicated that this mistake was due to a “temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes.”

Woman who spent £13,000 to have her ribs removed says people keep asking if she is ‘going to eat them’

No, she’s not going to eat her own ribs just because you ask her to

A woman who had six of her ribs removed has got plans for what to do with them, and it’s not what people keep asking her.

Emily James lives in Kansas City, US, which you’d think would be based in Kansas but is actually just across the state border in Missouri, even though it has a suburb called Kansas City, which actually is in Kansas.

However, we’re not here to talk about where she lives but what she’s going to do with her ribs.

The 27-year-old went in for some cosmetic surgery costing $17,000 (£13,568) so she could have a smaller waist and also got a breast augmentation done.

After the surgery, they let her keep her own ribs, and people have had all sorts of suggestions as to what she ought to do with them.

Some people have suggested she make adult toys out of the bones, while others have asked if she’d consider resorting to cannibalism and eating her own spare ribs.

Emily was originally planning on gifting the ribs to a friend, but has instead come up with another idea of what to do with the extra bits of ribcage she no longer needs.

“I plan on having someone make a crown out of them. “They let me keep the ribs and I was initially going to gift them to my best friend,” she said of her big idea of what to do with the surgically removed bones. She also shot down the suggestions that she engaged in cannibalism with her own removed body parts.

“I plan on making them into a crown. I’ve had people say they would make them into a chew toy or boil them down into broth,” she said.

“Personally, I think my meat would taste delicious. Eating human meat can cause a plethora of disorders that are fatal. So, I will not be partaking in cannibalism, thank you.”

It turns out you can’t just get six of your ribs (three from each side, naturally) removed without some discomfort, as Emily has had to wear a corset constantly to deal with the swelling.

However, despite this, she says she’d only rate the pain she feels as two out of 10 thanks to the team of doctors and nurses helping her recover from her surgery.

There have been some critics, but Emily said in a video that ‘getting my ribs removed doesn’t change the fact that I’m a kind, loving trans girl.’.

She said, “I know some of your moms walk around with BBLS; how is this any different?

“It is my money, my body, and I’m going to do what I want with it.”

The Surprising Link Between Onions and Lung Health

The Surprising Link Between Onions and Lung Health

Did you know that something as simple as an onion could play a role in keeping your lungs healthy? While onions are a staple in kitchens around the world, their health benefits extend far beyond their culinary uses. This article explores the connection between onions and lung health, shedding light on their potential to improve respiratory wellness.

Onions: A Natural Source of Health Boosters

Buy vitamins and supplements

Onions are packed with powerful nutrients, including antioxidants, vitamins, and natural compounds like quercetin. These components are known to fight inflammation and boost the immune system. Quercetin, in particular, has been studied for its ability to reduce oxidative stress and improve lung function, making it a valuable ally in preventing respiratory diseases.

Lung Health and the Power of Detoxification

The lungs are constantly exposed to harmful particles from air pollution, cigarette smoke, and environmental toxins. Over time, these elements can compromise lung function. Onions, with their sulfur-rich compounds, act as natural detoxifiers, helping to clear mucus and toxins from the respiratory tract. This not only supports lung health but also enhances oxygen absorption and circulation.

How to Incorporate Onions Into Your Diet

Incorporating onions into your daily meals can be incredibly simple and rewarding. Here are some tips:

  • Add thin slices of raw onion to your salads for a crunchy, tangy twist.
  • Use onions as a base for soups, stews, and stir-fries to maximize their flavor and health benefits.
  • Roast onions with a drizzle of olive oil for a sweet, caramelized treat that pairs well with almost any dish.

Beyond Nutrition: Onions in Traditional Remedies

For centuries, onions have been used in traditional remedies to treat respiratory conditions. A popular home remedy involves boiling onion slices with honey to create a soothing syrup for coughs and colds. While these remedies aren’t substitutes for medical treatment, they highlight the potential of onions as natural lung supporters.

Take a Deep Breath With Confidence

While onions alone can’t replace a healthy lifestyle, they can complement your efforts to maintain optimal lung health. Combined with regular exercise, a balanced diet, and avoiding pollutants, onions can serve as a simple yet effective tool in protecting your respiratory system.

Conclusion

The humble onion is more than just a flavorful ingredient—it’s a natural ally for your lungs. By understanding its benefits and incorporating it into your diet, you can take proactive steps toward better respiratory health. So, the next time you’re preparing a meal, think about the powerful impact a single onion can have on your overall wellness.

Jennifer Garner shares heartbreaking photos of her church reduced to rubble after deadly LA fires

Jennifer Garner shared heartbreaking images of her church reduced to ashes after it was destroyed in the devastating Los Angeles fires last month.

The actress, 52 – who was recently spotted filming scenes for her Apple TV+ series – also included a picture of an item that was found amidst the expansive rubble and debris of the United Methodist Community Church.

The star previously opened up the destruction of her ‘family’s church’ during an interview with MSNBC and reflected on how it had once been a ‘central part of our community.’

In one photo shared in her latest post, Garner showed a mug with a Christmas tree on the front that had been discovered following the blazes.

‘A little moment of light and hope to end the week,’ she began in the caption. ‘I sent the pastor and music director of my family’s church mugs at the holidays.’

‘A couple of weeks later, our church, along with the beautiful town surrounding it, was gone. Ross and Zach sifted through the rubble of the church this week, looking for, well, anything.’

Garner added, ‘Imagine my surprise when I opened this photo – with a note “We found one thing.”‘

‘My prayers join the many others for the families and business owners and communities whose lives turned upside down a month ago.’

‘And extend to all of you to enjoy health, safety, and your own moments of light and hope this weekend,’ Jennifer concluded.

Along with the image of the mug, she also shared a before-and-after shot of what the church had looked like before being ingulfed in flames during the Pacific Palisades fire.

The sign in front of what is left of the church appeared untouched in one photo and still contained a message for the holiday season. ‘Join us for a joyful Christmas season. Pastor John Shaver,’ it read.

The catastrophic fires began last month on January 7 amid strong Santa Ana winds, and also included the Eaton Fire in Altadena.

Only days after the blazes began, Garner visited the Pacific Palisades community and talked to MSNBC as she volunteered for World Central Kitchen to feed victims affected by the tragic event.

While becoming emotional, the mother-of-three told journalist Katy Tur, ‘It’s my family’s church.’

'A little moment of light and hope to end the week,' she began in the caption. 'I sent the pastor and music director of my family's church mugs at the holidays'

After a brief pause, Garner continued, ‘And it’s where my kids went to Sunday school. We lit the Advent candle together there a couple of weeks ago. We watched the little kids perform. It’s a preschool. It’s a central part of our community.’

‘It’s a gathering point for the entire community. And full of really quirky, cool, mostly blue collar people of the community. And just, like, I loved belonging there because wherever I went, I would run into somebody from our community.’

She later added, ‘The people are strong and the sense of the community is strong. We will look after each other, and that is still here. That is still stronger than ever.’

Jennifer also briefly got candid about ‘losing a friend’ in the fires and expressed, ‘I did lose a friend. And for our church, it’s really tender. So, I don’t feel like I should talk about her yet.’

‘But yeah, I did lose a friend who did not get out on time,’ she continued as her voice cracked over the tragic loss.

Jennifer also reflected on seeing the destruction of thousands of homes in the Palisades community and expressed, ‘I just…my heart bleeds for all my friends.’

‘I mean, I can think of a hundred families and there are 5,000 homes lost. Without even thinking, I can write out a list of a hundred friends that lost their homes.’

Garner then admitted, ‘I feel almost guilty walking through my house just, you know, what can I do? How can I help? What can I offer? What do I have to offer with these hands and these walls and the safety that I have?’

The star – who is also an ambassador for the nonprofit Save The Children – said the organization ‘will be in shelters helping parents and kids and keeping them safe and social and emotional…we’ll be here in a big way very, very soon.’

Elsewhere in her conversation with Tur, the actress stated, ‘I’ve lived in and around the Palisades for 25 years, so I just think all of us, we want to get our hands into working, somehow, to be helpful.’

‘And because of my work with Save The Children, we have a relationship with the chef,’ she said, referencing to Jose Andres – who is the founder of World Central Kitchen.

‘And I was able to just say, “Can I be with you for the day? What can I do to help? Put me to work.”‘

Along with lending a hand in the Palisades, the actress also served food with World Central Kitchen in the neighborhood of Altadena which was gravely affected by the Eaton Fire.

Jose Andres recently discussed Jennifer’s assistance in the wake of the blazes during an interview with People.

‘She lost a friend [and] she was there like one more,’ he expressed to the outlet. ‘It feels like she was my friend since childhood – and we just met, we barely met – and there she was.’

‘I did not have to tell her what to do, because she’ll always find something to do on her own.’

While handing out food to residents who lost their homes, Andres revealed how she gave ‘hugs to so many people.’

Jose added, ‘I think that’s almost like a psychology worry that I don’t think anybody realizes, but that’s so deep and so important.’

He then gave a shout out to those who ‘showed up even for [even] an hour’ even though ‘they don’t have to.’

‘Some of them are suffering the consequences of the fire, but there [here] they are. And they don’t do it where there are cameras, they’re doing it where there is nobody, and that makes it very special.’

“I didn’t know what being sexy meant.”

Jennifer Love Hewitt has called out the inappropriate comments she received as a teenager in Hollywood.

After joining the Disney Channel as a child, Hewitt got her acting breakthrough as a teenager in 1997 hit slasher film I Know What You Did Last Summer and its sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

However, being thrust into the public eye at a young age wasn’t always easy for the actress, as she has now opened up on the creepy sexualisation she received as a teenager.

Following her role in teen drama series Party of Five, Hewitt was just 18-years-old when the cult favourite, which also featured Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze Jr, hit cinemas.

And as the film’s main character, Hewitt received a lot of media attention — primarily directed at her looks and body.

Reflecting on the early days of her career in an interview on Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown podcast (via US Weekly), the actress revealed that it wasn’t until she reached her thirties that she realised it was ‘really strange’ for people to be calling her a ‘sex symbol’ so young.

“There were grown men talking to me at 16 about my breasts just openly on a talk show, and people were laughing about it,” she said.

“In hindsight it was really strange I think to become a sex symbol sort of for people before I even knew what that was.”

Recalling how people would joke that ‘I know what your breasts did last summer’ at the time, Hewitt said: “Everybody would laugh, and so I would laugh because it was supposed to be funny, I guess.

“It didn’t register with me that this was a grown man talking about my breasts on national television.”

Going on to explain that she had no idea ‘what sexy meant’ at the time, the Garfield actress added that she doesn’t blame people who made the comments as it was ‘part of the culture’ at the time.

“They were allowed to believe that that was appropriate, I answered the questions, laughed right along. I have no problem with them for doing it,” Hewitt added.

“But when you sit and you look at where we are now versus then, it’s really mind-blowing.”

Hewitt will reprise her role as Julie James in the upcoming reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer, alongside Prinze Jr. and a new cast which features Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Madelyn Cline.
