It has been called the worst death scene ever

Marion Cotillard finally spoke out about the scene in Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises in a recent interview with Les rencontres du Papotin, per Variety.

Cotillard played Talia al Ghul, the daughter of Liam Neeson’s Ra’s al Ghul from Batman Begins, in the ending to the trilogy from 2012.

Talia dies later in the film in acting that can only be best described as… interesting.

She lets out with her last breath ‘my father’s work is done’ before falling back

This has gone viral on multiple occasions across multiple social media platforms.

One comment on the scene posted to YouTube said: “Her death was the funniest thing in that entire movie.”

Another said: “For an oscar winning actress this was a terrible death scene.”

She has finally opened up about what happened, saying of the death in the film: “I didn’t nail that scene.

“I didn’t find the right position. I didn’t find the right way… I was stressed. Sometimes it happens that you screw something up. So that, I screwed up.”

Though this is the first time she has revealed why it is that the scene didn’t work, it is not the first time Cotillard has been asked about it.

She said in 2016: “Sometimes there are failures, and when you see this on screen, you’re thinking: ‘Why? Why did they keep that take?’

“But either you blame everyone or nobody.

“But I thought people overreacted because it was tough to be identified just with this scene.

“When I’m doing the best I can to find the authenticity in every character that I’m playing, it’s tough to be known just for this scene.”

This led to even more discussions of the scene itself, with one quoting the scene to say: “The worst death scene I’ve ever seen in a movie. So stiff awkward and fake. Should’ve re-shot it!!”

Another reply said: “The question I’ve been asking for a long time is: how did Nolan approve this scene in the final cut?”

A third asked: “That’s on Nolan. He’s allowed to get multiple takes and not settle for that one.”

Though the Dark Knight trilogy is widely agreed to be iconic, the third film was the most criticised of the three.

Despite this though, it still managed to make over a billion dollars, so you’re unlikely to hear many more complaints.

Scientists left baffled after making discovery about Earth's core that could change everything they knew

“It’s almost science fiction.”

Scientists have been left baffled after discovering a huge change is taking place thousands of miles below our feet in the Earth’s core.

The layers of our home planet are something pretty much all of us will have learnt in school, with scientific consensus stating that Earth is made up of four different layers.

Below the crust is a dense mantle which protects us from the scorching molten liquid of the outer core, and below that is the inner core, which is able to remain solid despite high temperatures thanks to intense levels of pressure.

However, this may be changing.

According to research published by the University of Southern California, scientists have made the baffling revelation that our super dense and solid metal core has actually changed its shape.

Researchers were able to come to this conclusion after analysing data obtained from earthquake shockwaves, which has been published in the journal of Natural Geoscience.

It’s believed the ‘viscous deformation’ of its shape is taking place along the outer edges of the inner core, where collisions occur with the molten liquid outer core.

SCIENTISTS BAFFLED AFTER DISCOVERING SECRET MOUNTAINS ON EARTH

“The molten outer core is widely known to be turbulent, but its turbulence had not been observed to disrupt its neighbour the inner core on a human timescale,” Professor John Vidale said of the study.

“What we’re observing in this study for the first time is likely the outer core disturbing the inner core.”

Why is the Earth’s inner core so important?

While a place widely explored in science fiction and conspiracy theories, what exactly goes on in Earth’s core largely remains a mystery to us on the surface.

However, there is one thing which scientists do know, that the inner core is critical to maintaining human life our planet.

The inner and outer core are responsible for producing a magnetic field, without this we would be exposed to solar wind and radiation emitted from the sun.

So you can see why scientists are keen to understand as much as possible of what is happening at 4,000 miles below our feet.

Although scientists are yet to make it below the the Earth’s crust, we are able to gain an understanding of what is going on by measuring how earthquake shockwaves pass through the inside of the planet.

Repeat Earthquakes in the same area allow researchers to look for changes to readings, which would suggest that something is taking place inside the very core of our planet.

“It’s almost science fiction to visualise what’s happening on the surface of the inner core,” Vidale added. “It’s a place that’s so different from our day-to-day lives, with different timescales, different materials and incredible forces.”

Armie Hammer has broken his silence on the infamous texts he sent during his affair in which he stated he is ‘100% a cannibal’.

Hammer has spent a long period out of the public eye after in 2021 being accused of sexual and emotional abuse.

He broke his silence in a podcast interview with Louis Theroux as part of The Louis Theroux Podcast.

Amongst the shocking accusations made against him by various ex-girlfriends, he was alleged to have said he wanted to ‘cook and eat’ a girl’s ribs, in addition to the abuse allegations.

The text messages, many of which were revealed in a documentary titled House of Hammer, included one in which he said he wanted to bite and ‘brand’ one woman, and another in which he said: “I am 100 percent a cannibal. F**k, that’s scary to admit. I’ve never admitted that before. I’ve cut the heart out of a living animal before and eaten it while still warm.”

Hammer addressed the shocking texts, claiming they were taken out of context.

He said in conversation with Theroux: “ I think the, most important context to give these kinds of things is they are one side of a conversation.

“As you’ll notice, of all of the text messages that were released, the person who released them, their side was cut out of the entire conversation.

Armie Hammer's text messages

“It makes it look like I was just rambling to myself. I mean, if you look, there’s really no response in any of the excerpts.”

He goes on to say: “Any digitally altered evidence is immediately inadmissible because you have no context.

“You, like, that could have been a very funny conversation between two people who were joking and pushing each other and egging each other on.

“In the way that sometimes you see comedians pushing the boundary further and further when they’re having a conversation. I’m not going to argue the messages.”

He goes on to deny being a cannibal, saying: “You know what you have to do to actually be a cannibal? You have to actually eat human flesh. So no.”

Hammer seemed to indicate the discussion arose simply from a sexual discussion, saying: “Sometimes when you’re involved with a person and you’re dating and you guys are having sex and you are a bit of a provocateur and you are exacerbated by alcohol or drugs or anything like that like it’s fun to ruffle feathers and it’s fun to push the envelope little by little.”

He went on to add: “Did I ever have any intention of cutting anything off of anyone or eating anything off of anyone? No.

“There was never really anything that I wanted.

“Was it fun to joke about if I was stoned or drunk or like laughing as I was typing these messages? Sure. That’s where context comes in.”

He went on to discuss his relationships with women and, while he denied the allegations against him of sexual and physical abuse, he admitted he was ‘a dick to women’.

He said: “By the way, I’m very, I’m very quick to admit that I was selfish, and inconsiderate, and an asshole, and a cad, and I used people to make me feel better. “People were sort of like my bags of dope with skin on them.

“There’s no way around that. Does it make me a dick? Absolutely. Like, I, I have no problem admitting that. I was a dick. That’s not illegal. You know? No, no.

“I think that that is what is also being conflated. Which, not by you, but sort of, by this culture that we’re in now.”

With the episode going live this evening, the interview with Theroux sees the actor also talk about his time in the Cayman Islands after being cancelled, his return to Hollywood, and refusing to deny that he would work with Woody Allen.

He said of the director, accused of child sex abuse: “Well, no, because like, if I say, ‘no, I would never work with Woody Allen’, then all I’m doing is saying, ‘I believe in this system that cancels people.’”

Man hunting binned Bitcoin drive worth £600 million makes huge offer to try and recover it

If they won’t let him into the rubbish dump, he’s got another plan

A man who reckons he’s got a lost fortune in Bitcoin just waiting to be dug up has made a new offer to access the site where he’s convinced his old drive is buried.

You might have heard of James Howells by now; he’s the man whose former partner threw out a bin bag containing a drive full of Bitcoin he claims is worth over £600 million today.

Since the Bitcoin was binned about 10 years ago, the 39-year-old has been trying to get it back, going so far as to launch a legal bid against Newport City Council asking for permission to search the landfill site he’s sure it has been stashed in.

That bid was unsuccessful, with his case being thrown out by a judge last month, but James might have another way to get at his buried treasure.

The refuse site with the drive supposedly buried somewhere in it is set to close within the next couple of years, and Howells wants to see about buying the land as another way to gain access to the site.

He's tried getting permission to dig up the landfill site but the case was thrown out as he was told it had 'no realistic prospect of succeeding'. (Wales News Service)

He’s been backed by a US hedge fund which would presumably take some of the Bitcoin in payment, and he’s now hoping that if you can’t beat ’em, buy ’em.

He’s planning to buy the landfill site ‘as is’ from the council, and said he’d be bringing up the closure at the Royal Court of Appeal.

Howells said: “The council planning on closing the landfill so soon is quite a surprise, especially since Newport City Council claimed in their recent High Court statements that closing the landfill to allow me to search would have a huge detrimental impact on the people of Newport, whilst at the same time they were planning to close the landfill anyway.”

Newport City Council have said that they are ‘working on a planned closure and capping of the site over the next two years’ and part of the site is going to become a solar farm which will generate power for the council’s electric bin lorries.

When his legal bid to gain access to the site was struck down by a judge, Howells was told he had ‘no realistic prospect of succeeding’ if the matter went to trial.

It has been many years since the binned Bitcoin was dumped in the landfill site, and plenty more rubbish has been piled on top of it since then.

Whether the data on drive would even still be recoverable is a mystery, and at a court hearing it was said that looking for the drive would be like searching for a ‘needle in a haystack’.

Howells has been trying to recover the drive since he realised it had been mistakenly binned, but each of his efforts has been rebuffed.

In the past he’s made various offers in the hopes of being granted permission to dig up the drive, including claiming that he would offer money from the Bitcoin to the local area.

The council have said that digging up the site would have a ‘huge environmental impact’.

Rupert Grint admitted he would return to Harry Potter as Ron Weasley under two conditions

Could we see Ron Weasley return to our screens soon?

Harry Potter fans might have a reason to get excited, as Grint’s comments could point towards a potential reunion in the future, and not one that’s AI-generated, either.

The 34-year-old actor made a name for himself as the iconic best friend of the movie franchise’s titular character, Ron Weasley.

He first played the role aged 11 in The Philospher’s Stone, but last played the eccentric ginger wizard in The Deathly Hallows – Part 2, back in 2011.

While many of the actors from the film series reunited for a special on HBO back in 2021, fans will still love nothing more than seeing the likes of Harry, Hermione, and Ron back on the big screen.

This was fuelled further by Daniel Radcliffe’s comments on a potential return, which didn’t seem to shut down the idea of him reprising the role of ‘the boy who lived’.

Back in January 2023, Grint was asked about the Wizarding World while his promoting thriller film Knock At The Cabin, during an appearance on ITV’s This Morning.

When asked about Ron, and if he would be ‘opposed’ to bringing him back, Grint said: “I think if the timing was right and everyone was coming back. It was a character that was important to me, we kind of became the same person.

“I’m protective of him as well. It was my whole childhood.”

Grint further explained that he is very grateful for the breakout role, joking: “I was a fish in a school play before that!”

Highlighting that he’d be open to bringing the character back in ‘some form’, it’s clear that a lot would need to be agreed upon to make it happen.

You’d need to get Emma Watson and Radcliffe on board, as well as some of the remaining actors, such as Tom Felton and Helena Bonham Carter.

Sadly, the likes of Michael Gambon, who played Voldemort, and Alan Rickman, who played Professor Severus Snape, have passed away since the final film’s release.

Getting the three main characters, the studio, and other figures to agree would be a task in itself (Warner Bros.)

But when Radcliffe spoke about the prospect in 2023, he explained: “My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere.

“So I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed.

“But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look likely – sorry, Harry Potter fans.

The Royal Artillery Gunner received thousands of ‘disturbing’ texts from her boss

A teenage soldier was discovered dead at base camp after she received a number of ‘unwelcome’ texts from her boss, an inquest heard.

Jaysley Beck was a 19-year-old Royal Artillery Gunner, and was found at Larkhill Camp in Wiltshire, UK, on 15 December 2021.

An inquest further heard that she became ‘scared’ by ‘psychotic and possessive’ behaviour from her boss, as she believed he had hacked her phone.

The ‘intense period’ of messaging was from Bombardier Ryan Mason, and a service inquiry report published in October 2023 found it to be a ‘casual factor’ in her passing, Sky News reports.

It is said that Beck was sent a number of texts between October and December 2021, with 3,600 messages in November alone.

Jaysley Beck ‘did not feel safe’ according to her mother (PA)

During the inquest, which took place in Salisbury, Gunner Beck’s mother, Leighann McCready, said that her daughter ‘did not feel safe’ as time went on.

The WhatsApp messages included a number of intrusive messages from Mason, who Beck helped to support as she said he had mental health problems.

Some of the texts from Mason read: “Love you Jayse. As a friend,” and “I will always be there along for the ride with you, I have said it before but you’re stuck with me forever now. I love you x As a friend, I love you.”

One particular message prompted a response, as she wrote on 25 November: “This whole falling in love with me, its becoming a bit too much, I have just come out of a relationship and I’m just not wanting to be involved in anything like this.

“It’s weighing me down a little bit, I’ll be totally honest with you.

“Totally honest here, I just don’t want to hear how you feel about me.”

McCready said that Mason ‘was overstepping’, saying that her daughter told the family that he was ‘becoming a creep’.

Beck even wrote that she was afraid that Mason was watching her, and on 4 December, she said: “It’s snapping me, I have replied to you and in the space of a couple of minutes you sent three texts and tried to phone me. Can you understand why I think it’s a bit too much?”

The mum even admitted that her daughter called to suggest that Mason has hacked her phone, calling him ‘a bit obsessive’, and believed that he would organise work trips with her more often than with other colleagues.

On 7 December, Beck called her mum ‘upset and crying’, fearing something was going to happen as she became more worried that her phone was being tracked.

The inquest also saw a draft text that she planned to send Mason, which read: “I honestly feel trapped in this whole situation, I have tried to act as normal as possible because we are working together but nothing normal about this situation.

“It’s possessive and psychotic, you have to understand it’s not normal behaviour.

“I am struggling to deal with all of this, it’s taking a huge toll on my own mental health for many personal reasons. I need time out.”

Beck didn’t complain though, as she feared for her reputation in the army, and McCready explained that Beck was also upset by her uncle’s suicide in August 2020 and just got out of a relationship.

The teenager had previously complained of being assaulted by a sergeant (PA)

The inquest further heard that the 19-year-old complained of being assaulted by a sergeant on a team-building stay near Emsworth, where he put his hand ‘between her legs’ in July 2021.

The sergeant in question only received a minor sanction and an apology letter from him wasn’t received well by Beck, as he said that ‘his door was open’ to her. The Army service inquiry report detailed this as ‘possibly a factor’ that may have stopped her from reporting on ‘other events that happened subsequently’.

Though her family reject it, the report said that family problems, which included a bereavement, caused her death.

They also said that there were three factors that contributed, which was the ‘significant strain’ of a sexual relationship with a married colleague in the last few weeks of her life, a relationship which ended in November 2021 and involved ‘repeated allegations of unfaithfulness on the part of the boyfriend’, and drinking habits that included ‘binge drinking’.

It was stated that Beck has no mental health conditions and did not seek welfare support.

The inquest is ongoing.

Simon Vickers has been jailed for life over the fatal stabbing of his 14-year-old daughter

The grandfather of a teenager who was fatally stabbed by her father after he was convicted of her murder has spoken out.

14-year-old Scarlett Vickers died after being stabbed in the chest by her father, Simon, in what was described as a ‘play fight’ at the family home.

Vickers, 50, has since been found guilty of his daughter’s killing and sentenced to life in prison, serving a minimum of 15 years behind bars.

Vickers had maintained throughout the trial that he did not intend to kill his daughter and that Scarlett had accidentally received the 11cm chest wound as a result of a ‘play fight’ gone horribly wrong.

Following his sentencing at Teeside Crown Court, Scarlett’s grandfather has spoken out in support of his son and claimed that he would never ‘deliberately’ hurt his daughter.

“He would never in a million years have hurt her deliberately,” Barrie, 78, said in an interview with The Sun.

“Scarlett was his life. Simon would have killed himself before he laid one finger on that girl. And I’d be the first one not to speak to him again had I thought for one second he did it.”

He added: “We know Simon wouldn’t have killed her. We know the truth. It was an accident.”

Barrie isn’t the first person to stand by Vickers’ side either, as Scarlett’s mother, Sarah Hall – Vickers’ partner – has also supported him.

Sarah had stood by her partner throughout the trial, where jurors learnt that Scarlett had bled to death in her kitchen, telling the court: “It was an accident, I know he would never harm her.”

Defence Nicholas Lumley KC added that the family shared the view that Vickers ‘did not intend Scarlett any harm’ on the night in question.

“None can believe that he will now be known as Scarlett’s murderer,” he said.

However, this point of view wasn’t shared by Mr Justice Cotter, who called Vickers’ version of events ‘unconvincing and wholly implausible.’

“You have never accepted exactly what happened, although you have accepted it was your actions that caused her death,” he said.

“Your beloved daughter deserved that you told the truth, you have not done so.”

He continued: “Scarlett was just 14, a normal, healthy woman with a long life ahead of her when it was cut short by you.

“She died in the kitchen of her own home within minutes of having been stabbed. It went from an ordinary, happy family Friday night to tragedy within seconds due to what must have been your loss of temper.”

Christopher Atkinson, Head of the Complex Casework Unit for CPS North East, said: “It is difficult to understand what motivated Simon Vickers to take the life of his daughter, Scarlett.

“In the absence of any plausible explanation on his part, we may never fully understand the circumstances which led to her tragic death.

“What is abundantly clear is that the account provided by Simon Vickers was wholly inconsistent with the forensic evidence in this case.

“Crucially, the medical expert we instructed to examine Scarlett’s injuries made it clear that they could only have been caused had the knife been firmly gripped as it made contact.”

Woman has to tape or glue eyes open just to see due to bizarre condition

Tia-Leigh has gotten bruises from trying to keep her eyes open

But this woman has to tape or glue hers open just to be able to see due to a bizarre condition.

One morning in May 2023, Tia-Leigh Streamer assumed she just had a bit of hay fever when she awoke with a drooping eyelid.

And then, in that December, she woke up unable to open either of her eyes. The 20-year-old was referred to a specialist, with both her GP and doctors at Southampton hospital baffled by what was causing it.

Streamer was told she may have a rare eyelid condition called blepharospasm. The NHS explain this is where the muscles around the eyelids develop an involuntary spasm, causing them to twitch, flutter or blink uncontrollably.

And in severe cases, suffers may be unable to open their eyes due to excessive eyelid spasm.

The Dorset woman said she has the ‘same level of sight’ as someone who is visually impaired, except she’s ‘got nothing wrong’ with her eyesight.

“I know it’s neurological but they [the doctors] don’t know what causes it which makes it worse for me, because if they could say it’s caused from this, I think it would make me feel slightly less in the dark,” she said.

“To be told I’ve got this for the rest of my life and not know why is a hard thing to deal with.”

There is currently no cure for the condition, but doctors have been trialling a way to help Streamer keep her eyes open – Botox injections.

This has been trialled by docs at Royal Bournemouth hospital since March last year and she hasn’t been able to open her eyes without the jabs since.

When the Botox wears off, the only way she can see is by taping and gluing her eyelids or holding her eyes open with her hands. But even when it is effective, sunlight, car headlights and computer screens can trigger Streamer’s eyes to close.

The woman says she’s not ‘been coping very well’ with the ordeal, as she says it’s particularly harder when the Botox runs out.

“The more often I have it, at some point my body will get used to the Botox and it won’t work anymore,” she added.

“I have them done every eight to 10 weeks at the moment. It was 12 weeks. But I only get about three to five weeks where it actually takes any effect.”

Having to physically hold her eyelids open to be able to see, Streamer says doctors have told her the longer she does it for, the higher the chance of ‘actually damaging’ her eyes.

“I’ve actually had bruises on my eyelids from the tape before.”

Streamer was training to become an accountant but her condition caused her to stop working.

“It was awful to be honest, I had everything planned out. I was training to do that and I was saving to move out and get married and have children and it was all taken away from me,” she said.

But the main thing she struggles with is the lack of freedom as she ‘can’t be independent as much anymore’. It’s stopped her from doing things she enjoys, as well as the basics like making dinner.

“It’s like I’m going back to being a child again because I can’t use a knife and fork and see what I’m doing,” she added.

Streamer is particularly worried about having a baby with her partner.

“Night-time is the worst, they just won’t open at all. I have nightmares about a baby next to me and it’s crying and I can’t wake my husband up and I can’t get around to help because of my eyes,” she explained.

“I do know now there are things that can be put in place to help because obviously people who are blind all the time still have children.”

Streamer said it’s going to be a ‘trial and error year’ with her doctor as they vary the amounts of Botox to see if they can find a better balance.

The rapper’s stage design was one big Easter egg, apparently

Kendrick Lamar really does everything for a reason.

The American rapper put in a memorable Super Bowl half-time performance last night (9 February), and made further headlines for one of the songs on his setlist.

You don’t need to be a genius to figure out which of the ‘HUMBLE’ rapper’s tunes we’re on about.

‘Not Like Us’ was released in May 2024, and it was widely regarded as the song of the summer, despite being the exclamation mark in a rap beef with Canadian rapper, Drake.

While he was seen particularly enjoying himself when dissing his rival in front of millions on national TV, the 37-year-old artist certainly got the crowd up on their feet at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana with his setlist.

And Lamar went on to perform his diss track as part of the show, despite Drake already filing a lawsuit against the record company, though he had to censor his well-known ‘certified p**dophile’ line, for all the kids watching.

For those who aren’t familiar with the line, it goes: “Say, Drake, I hear you like ’em young / You better not ever go to cell block one / To any b**ch that talk to him and they in love / Just make sure you hide your lil’ sister from him / They tell me Chubbs the only one that get your hand-me-downs / And Party at the party playin’ with his nose now / And Baka got a weird case, why is he around? / Certified Lover Boy? Certified (missed out ‘p**dophiles’ lyric).”

But after performing the song in front of millions and giving the camera a cheeky smile, it turns out that there’s been another dig at Drake that we’ve missed.

Surprisingly, it was video game-related, and it could be seen at the end of the show.

As the crowd cheered and applauded him after appearances from SZA and Samuel L. Jackson, Lamar closed his show by turning the lights down, the words ‘Game Over’ being displayed on the side of the stadium.

On stage though, the iconic Playstation symbols of a cross, circle, triangle, and square could be seen.

More or less a victory lap after triumphing over Drake, this move may have been one to rub salt into the wounds of the Canadian, who is currently in Australia.

Regardless, music and video game fans were elated to see that the stage was seemingly a big reference to gaming after the iconic show that the LA rapper put on.

One fan took to X to say: “Kendrick Lamar brought out the PlayStation symbols and said ‘Game Over’.”

Another wrote: “Serena Williams, Samuel Jackson, PlayStation references, the GNX, the whole stadium yelling ‘A MINORR’ ugh the dancers in red, white & blue, SZA?! Thank you Kendrick. The revolution will be televised.”

Minutes before playing ‘Not Like Us’, the rapper even said: “I want to play their favourite song… but you know they love to sue,” referencing Drake’s lawsuit.

The tune went viral and will undoubtedly go down as one of the tunes of the 2020s, earning the rapper a number of Grammy awards just a week before this performance.
