Your ‘healthy’ hydration habit could be more dangerous than you thought

Health experts have issued a warning, declaring our organs could be suffering after finding a dangerous hydrocarbon floating around in plastic water bottles.

According to industry data, North Americans guzzled 16.2 billion gallons of bottled water in 2024, with consumption rising by a jaw-dropping 2 percent when compared to the previous year’s publishings.

And while you may think reaching for a bottle of Evian or snapping up some Fiji Water is a healthy practice, scientists have revealed you actually could be doing some major damage to your health.

Previous research into how healthy bottled water is

Previously, researchers at Columbia and Rutgers Universities discovered that a litre of bottled water contained an average of 240,000 nanoplastic and microplastic fragments.

These microplastics – defined as minuscule pieces of plastic debris – are often formed with the breakdown of larger plastics and can be encountered in our cosmetics, our cleaning products, and, surprisingly, in our one-use water bottles.

After analyzing five samples of three common bottled water brands, researchers found seven different types of plastics in the liquid.

These included polyamide, a type of nylon, Polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a member of the polyester family, and even polystyrene.

In their paper, published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the experts theorised that most of the microplastics found in the water bottles were actually coming from the plastic casing itself.

According to the researchers, ingesting these microplastics can cause the shards to be transported to your liver, kidneys, your brain, and even make their way across a pregnant person’s placental boundary, ending up inside an unborn child, writes CNN.

Microplastics can cause damage to our internal organs

Following the Columbia and Rutgers probe, a new study published by Communications Biology has found our kidneys are the organ suffering the most from microplastic consumption.

The paper, titled ‘Activation of gut metabolite ACSL4/LPCAT3 by microplastics in drinking water mediates ferroptosis via gut–kidney axis’ has found that microplastics are the primary carriers of Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP).

BaP is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon that can cause cancer, genetic defects, and damage fertility, writes the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

It is also classified as extremely toxic to aquatic life and tends to cause allergic skin reactions.

The paper claims that bottled water is the main source of microplastics, writing that these BaP-laced shards are doing serious damage to our intestinal wall, wreaking havoc on our kidneys, and causing systemic inflammation.

How can we reduce the microplastics we consume?

The good news is that you can dramatically decrease the amount of microplastics you consume just by ditching plastic water bottles.

Instead, specialists advise you to install a high-quality filter on your tap. It’s understood this can help you cut your intake down by a whopping 90 percent.

According to another paper, this time published by the Genomic Press, you could take your microplastic ingestion down from 90,000 to 4,000 particles each year if you go cold turkey on plastic-packaged liquid,

“Given the widespread presence of microplastics in the environment, completely eliminating exposure is unrealistic.

“A more practical approach is to reduce the most significant sources of microplastic intake,” the researchers wrote.

Other ways to reduce microplastic consumption

If drinking bottled water is one of your non-negotiables then good news: there’s a myriad of ways you can work to reduce how often you digest microplastics.

These include storing leftover food in glassware tubs, drinking through stainless steel straws, and being mindful of seafood consumption.

Instead of using plastic bags, opt to pack your grocery items in a cotton tote bag and be sure to buy organic clothes.

By choosing to travel via public transport, you’ll be removing one more car from the road, contributing to producing fewer microplastics overall.

Death row inmate claimed his execution is 'long overdue' as he gave up chance to delay it

Aaron Gunches is due to be executed in Arizona on Wednesday (March 19)

A killer who has been incarcerated for more than two decades has waived his right to appeal his execution.

Aaron Gunches, of Arizona, pleaded guilty in 2004 of the kidnapping and murder of Ted Price, in 2002, but it wasn’t until 2008 that he was given the death penalty for his crimes.

The 53-year-old has opted to defend himself in court ever since, and has waived his right to an appeal, as well as any legal rights at virtually every stage of proceedings.

On 25 November, 2022, Gunches filed a request to the state supreme court to be executed as soon as possible, before retracting his request.

Now, having submitted a handwritten motion on December 30 asking for the State of Arizona to ‘have his long overdue sentence carried out’, he has been given an execution date of Wednesday (March 19).

The killing of Price is understood to have taken place after Gunches arrived at his girlfriend’s home in Mesa, Arizona.

When he got there, he discovered that earlier on in the day she had been involved in an altercation with Price, her ex-husband, and had hit him in the face with a telephone.

It is believed that Gunches, along with his girlfriend and her roommates, then loaded Price him into his car with the intention that he was to be dropped off at a bus station.

However, it is claimed that Gunches couldn’t afford to buy a bus ticket for him so instead drove him into the desert where he executed him as he was exiting his car – shooting him four times.

That was on November 14. Two months later – on January 15, 2003 – a police officer pulled him over during a routine traffic stop, and Gunches then fired shots at the cop.

The officer was hit twice but managed to survive the ordeal. Meanwhile, Gunches was arrested the following day after a huge manhunt was launched.

He was found hiding out in a haystack.

The reason that Gunches withdrew his request to be executed sooner in 2022, was because he claimed that there were ‘three recent botched executions of Dixon, Atwood and Hooper’.

His letter, which was submitted on January 4, 2023, read in part: “The ADC [Arizona Department of Corrections] staff on the execution team are not medical professionals, nor are they certified for IV insertion, nor are they capable of performing surgery. Plain and simple: This was torture.”

In the letter, Gunches also refers to a comment made by Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes in October 2022: “We need to take some time to assess how the death penalty has worked, and make sure that this is done legally and correctly.”

The motion, that he wrote himself, continued: “Aaron Gunches does not want to be tortured before he is executed and asks this court to withdraw his motion with leave to file at a later date, after AG Mayes insures executions can be done in a proper manner.

“For the Arizona Supreme Court to issue an execution warrant under the current conditions amounts to court ordered cruel and unusual punishment, which simply cannot be allowed.”

Scientist claims to have evidence 'our entire universe is trapped inside a black hole'

The expert has also called on astronomers to recalibrate Milky Way distance measurements

Our universe is thought to be around 13.7 billion years old, according to NASA.

Despite the formal exploration of space starting almost seven decades ago, a jaw-dropping 95 percent portion of the cosmos is still classed as being undiscovered.

Of course, astronauts have only been as far as the Moon, but with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), scientists can use infrared technology to capture and focus light to see further into the distance.

Since being launched from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana in 2021, the JWST has collected information on how stars and planets are formed, discovered water vapor in planet-forming disks, and detected carbon dioxide emissions from Jupiter’s Europa moon.

Now, a Kansas State University associate professor of computer science believes the JWST has captured images indicating we’re stuck in a black hole.

Lior Shamir, who has analyzed images for the telescope’s Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey (JADES), has published new findings in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

New evidence suggests our universe could be inside a black hole (NASA)

The paper, titled ‘The distribution of galaxy rotation in JWST Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey’, sees Shamir outlining how he used a computer-aided quantitative method to analyze images of galaxy rotations, taken by the machinery.

Shamir wrote that out of the 263 galaxies in the JADES field, two-thirds of them rotated clockwise, while just about a third rotated counterclockwise.

According to a press release issued by the Kansas institution, the number of galaxies rotating in one direction should usually mimic the number spinning in the other – making Shamir’s discovery an unexpected one.

“The analysis of the galaxies was done by quantitative analysis of their shapes, but the difference is so obvious that any person looking at the image can see it,” the study’s lead author said.

“There is no need for special skills or knowledge to see that the numbers are different. With the power of the James Webb Space Telescope, anyone can see it.”

A scientist has requested astronomers recalibrate Milky Way distance measurements (NASA)

A scientist has requested astronomers recalibrate Milky Way distance measurements (NASA)

Although Shamir isn’t certain why a large number of our universe’s galaxies are spinning clockwise, he has issued two possible reasonings.

“One explanation is that the universe was born rotating. That explanation agrees with theories such as black hole cosmology, which postulates that the entire universe is the interior of a black hole.

“But if the universe was indeed born rotating it means that the existing theories about the cosmos are incomplete.”

Space.com reports that if we are indeed trapped inside a black hole, then other observed masses of darkness could actually be wormholes, otherwise known as Einstein-Rosen bridges, to other universes.

Unfortunately, due to their density and lack of light, it’s currently impossible for scientists to observe and learn their otherworldly secrets.

Shamir’s bold claim is backed up by Nikodem Poplawski, a theoretical physicist at the University of New Haven.

“I think that the simplest explanation of the rotating universe is the universe was born in a rotating black hole,” he told Space.com.

“A preferred axis in our universe, inherited by the axis of rotation of its parent black hole, might have influenced the rotation dynamics of galaxies, creating the observed clockwise-counterclockwise asymmetry.”

The second possible reason why we’re seeing a higher number of galaxies rotating i the opposite direction could be because of the ‘relative motion of the Milky Way’, Shamir stated.

“The motion makes them brighter, and that is why we see more of them,” the expert said, alluding to the Doppler Shift.

The Doppler Shift is the apparent effect produced when the source of a wave is moving in relation to an observer, and the reason why it makes galaxies rotating the other way may look brighter when photographed.

“But I might be wrong, and in that case, the real Universe has more galaxies that rotate in the same direction,” he added.

Based on his findings, Shamir has now called for astronomers to rethink and re-calibrate the effect of the Milky Way’s ‘slow’ rotational velocity on their measurements.

“The re-calibration of distance measurements can also explain several other unsolved questions in cosmology such as the differences in the expansion rates of the universe and the large galaxies that according to the existing distance measurements are expected to be older than the universe itself,” he said.

Jackson Oswalt turned his attention to science after having an ‘epiphany’ when he was a tween

Can you remember what you were doing when you were 12 years old?

Me, I was highly anticipating the release of Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie and spent most nights playing the Wii, but Jackson Oswalt, from Memphis, Tennessee, has very different memories of being 12.

You see, when Jackson was just a tween, he one day had a ‘sudden epiphany’.

Jackson had an ‘epiphany’ about video games when he was a child (X/@JacksonOswalt)

According to the Guinness World Records website, he explained: “I realized that I could be the absolute best at whatever video game, but in the end it still wouldn’t mean much. In the grand scheme of things, video games had no role to play. So, I changed my ways.”

Jackson didn’t turn his interest to comic books or movies like some other kids might – instead he opted for what he described as ‘the closest thing to video games in real life: science’.

The near-teenager threw himself into the subject of science, watching YouTube videos on nuclear fusion and researching materials that might allow him to pull off the process himself.

In case you weren’t a science-inclined 12-year-old like Jackson, nuclear fusion is the process of combining atomic nuclei under intense pressure and heat, causing them to form one or more atomic nuclei and neutrons. In turn, the process then causes a release or absorption of energy.

Jackson achieved his Guinness World Record at 12 years old (YouTube/Guinness World Records)

Jackson achieved his Guinness World Record at 12 years old (YouTube/Guinness World Records)

Jackson recalled his steps to achieve nuclear fusion in a thread on Twitter last year, writing: “The first step was to build a ‘demo fusor’, or a device that creates plasma but doesn’t achieve fusion. This required a vacuum chamber, vacuum pump, and a neon sign transformer with a homemade AC-DC converter.

“I ended up bringing this version to my school’s science fair. I only got it working the night before. In hindsight, it’s amazing they let me walk in the door with it.”

After purchasing the materials he needed and spending more than a year testing his experiment, Jackson officially became the youngest person to achieve nuclear fusion in 2018, when his efforts – achieved the day before he turned 13 – were verified by Fusor.net, The Open Source Fusor Research Consortium.

Pretty cool, right?

But if that wasn’t exciting enough for a 12 year old, things took another wild turn when Jackson was greeted one Saturday morning by two FBI agents.

Having heard about Jackson’s success, the two agents carried out a sweep of the young boy’s house with a geiger counter to make sure his experiments hadn’t resulted in any radiation.

Thankfully, however, the agency’s involvement didn’t go much further.

“Fortunately I remained a free man,” Jackson said.

Seven years on from Jackson’s accomplishment, the young scientist is now working for research labs such as Midjourney, where he’s working on hardware and research into AI.

Issues with the bulletproof truck strike again

It’s said that Elon Musk’s electric car-making company has had to suspend sales of its famous electric pickup truck after customers raised the alarm over some rather concerning issues.

Now, owners have reportedly said metal panels have come away from the cars and in some cases have flown off at high speeds while they were driving, presenting a safety risk to drivers and other people on the roads.

Customers have since taken to the Cybertruck Owners Club site and Musk’s social media platform, Twitter, to complain that they hadn’t been told their deliveries were on hold.

But electric vehicle enthusiasts at Electrek said Tesla decided to put a halt on sales after several incidents of metal trim and panels ‘flying off’.

According to The Telegraph, a major issue is said to be with the pickup’s cantrail, a piece of decorative trim that spans the length of the roof.

It seems the issue also isn’t new as Tesla has previously been forced to recall thousands of the models due to panels falling off while on the road.

The news comes as owners have long reported build issues with the battery electric truck since it came out in 2023.

Musk unveiled it as a concept vehicle in November 2019, calling the futuristic and whopping 6,800lb truck the ultimate ‘pickup truck that can carry a pickup truck’.

An owner reported issues just one month into owning the vehicle on TiktTok (TikTok/proloaf)

But it has divided the opinion of many ever since it came out, with some complaining of its ‘poor design’ and expensive charges.

Since being able to get their hands on one, Cybertruck owners have also faced issues with them, particularly people who live in snowy and cold climates.

For example, one Tesla driver reported a ‘major flaw’ in the EVs design when he discovered that his headlights weren’t visible because of snow building up in front of them.

Another owner in Montreal, Canada, also showed the vehicle struggled to move in the snow.

In an official complaint to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a Cybertruck owner claimed the trim came away after just one year of use.

The driver claims the panel was ‘hard and sharp enough to hit other cars’ and presented a ‘serious safety issue’.

Another complaint said the upper passenger trim ‘fell off while driving on [the] street’ and ‘could have hurt another motorist’.

“This trim comes in two pieces, one is bolted to the truck and the other is glued onto the bolted piece, the glued piece peeled off,” it added.

Last year, Tesla recalled a few vehicles after a piece of metal trim was falling off around the trunk which the company explained in a statement, writing: “The Cybertruck is equipped with a cosmetic applique along the exterior of the trunk bed trim, known as the sail applique, which is affixed to the vehicle with adhesive.

“On affected vehicles, the sail applique or adhesion may not have been installed according to specification, which may cause the sail applique to become loose or separate from the vehicle.”

Viewers were left confused by the meaning of several emojis

If you’ve been watching Adolescence this week, you might have been left confused by some of the discussions around emojis and what they actually mean.

Who knew the different coloured hearts had various meanings?

Parents were especially quick to take note, after a scene in which DI Bascombe’s son, Adam, helps him de-code some Instagram comments, which included a number of seemingly regular emojis with underlying meanings.

The series – which has proved to be a huge hit on Netflix and is sitting firmly in the number one spot – focuses on a 13-year-old boy named Jamie (played by first time actor, Owen Cooper) who is arrested in episode one and suspected of murdering classmate, Katie.

Adolescence follows the investigation around Katie’s murder and the motive behind the heinous crime.

Cooper stars alongside Stephen Graham, who plays his father, Eddie. Meanwhile, Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty, and Faye Marsay also star.

As the police try to unravel what happened to Katie, and how her schoolmates are linked to her murder, Adam helps his dad understand a comment left on Jamie’s Instagram page.

“The red pill is like ‘I see the truth.’ It’s a call to action by the manosphere,” he said.

“She’s saying he’s an incel dad. She’s saying he always will be. That’s why they say you’re an incel, they’re saying you’re going to be a virgin forever.”

In the series, viewers see how Jamie has been influenced by misogynistic content online.

When Adam talks about the ‘manosphere’ he is referring to an online network of misogynistic communities, promoting ideas from anti-feminism and toxic masculinity.

‘Incels’ refers to a subculture of men who believe they are unable to form sexual or romantic relationships with women.

The red pill emoji is associated with someone sharing incel beliefs, meanwhile the ‘100’ emoji is also said to be linked, with Adam telling his dad it references ‘the 80 to 20 rule’.

“80 percent of women are attracted to 20 percent of men. Women, you must trick them because you’ll never get them in a normal way,” he said.

People were quick to comment on how out of touch they are with the latest emoji meanings, with one viewer writing on X: “One thing I’ve noticed after watching #StephenGraham #Adolescence is I’m so behind the times! I never knew any behind the scene meanings of emojis amongst the younger generations. Think I’ll just use my 5-6 regulars. If you ain’t watched it your missing out! #5star.”

Meanwhile, another added: “I had no idea the ‘different’ meanings of emojis. I only use a because I love the color purple. Nothing else. Nothing sexual, okay?”

NASA stunned after comparing health of astronaut who spent 340 days in space to identical twin brother on Earth

NASA astronaut Scott Kelly was shot in to space for a year while brother Mark Kelly, also an astronaut for NASA, stayed on Earth

NASA had the very unique situation of having identical twin astronauts working for the American space agency; something they used to their advantage when they sent one up to Earth and kept the other here on Earth.

Say hello to Scott and Mark Kelly, two now retired astronauts who worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Twins born back in 1964, they embarked on a career in science that took them off of the planet on numerous occasions.

Back in 2015 and 2016, NASA made the move to put Scott in space for a very particular reason, with the twin brother in orbit of the planet for almost one year. 340 days to be precise; shorter than the record held by Russian cosmonaut Valeri Polyakov.

With brother Mark remaining on Earth, Scott’s return to Earth was when the experiments began.

What did NASA do?

Scott Kelly was blasted in to space alongside Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko, heading to the International Space Station.

With lift off in March 2015, the duo had one major task to hand.

“The mission’s goal was to understand how the human body reacts and adapts to the harsh environment of space,” NASA said.

“During the 340 day mission, almost 400 experiments were conducted on the station.”

The purpose behind this was to see if there were any health issues that could be identified and used to help reduce risks of future NASA astronauts for when space agencies move to a time beyond low Earth orbit. We’re talking trips to Mars and beyond; something we know SpaceX’s Elon Musk is keen on.

How did the twin brother factor in to this?

Scott Kelly’s twin brother, Mark, happened to also be an astronaut with NASA, working with the space agency as a shuttle commander.

Mark stayed on Earth during Scott’s 340 days in space. Given they had an identical biological make up, NASA wanted to see how their health might have differed after one of them spent time without gravity for just more than one year.

Both men undertook a number of tests before going to space as well as during and then again, during Scott’s return. We’re talking blood tests; stool tests; urine and saliva testing; vision and cognitive testing; and physical exercise.

What did NASA find when comparing the twins?

The findings were published in something called ‘The Twin Study’.

Steven Platts, deputy chief scientist with NASA’s Human Research Program, was amazed by what the agency found. Remarkably, Scott didn’t have any major long-term health problems that could be linked to long-duration flights.

His immune system behaved pretty normal, with stress returning to normal after the landing.

There were some unusual results, such as something called telomeres being lengthened in Scott’s white blood cells. Telomeres usually shorten as you get older, and serve as biomarkers for accelerated aging or other risks such as cancer or heart disease. The fact his lengthened surprised NASA.

Overall, Platts said: “The results we’ve seen… show the resilience and robustness of the human body.

“We’ve evolved here on Earth in a one-(gravity) environment, we grow up, we train, we do everything here, and yet, when we go into space… our bodies adapt and continue to function and by and large, function extremely well.

“Changes that were seen in Scott, the vast majority of them came back to baseline in a relatively short period of time when he returned to Earth. And those that did not are markers of things we already knew were likely to happen.

“This will guide future biomedical space research and allow us to have a safer journey to and from Mars.”

Sam Jones shared a video statement addressing the controversy

An influencer who snatched a baby wombat from its mother has taken another shot at Australia in wake of the backlash she received.

Sam Jones has issued a new scathing statement days after fleeing the country.

The US woman, who describes herself as a ‘outdoor enthusiast, hunter and wildlife biologist’, has accused the government of ‘calling for her head’ due to comments made by the likes of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

And Jones has made another slew of allegations about the treatment of animals in Australia in a pre-recorded video shared with Channel 10 talk show The Project.

The 24-year-old, based in Montana, was set to chat to hosts Hamish Macdonald, Sarah Harris and Sam Taunton on Sunday (16 March), but she supposedly chickened out at the last minute.

Instead, she sent over a clip in which she discussed ‘taking responsibility for her actions’ after footage of her encounter with two wombats went viral for all the wrong reasons.

“It was an incredible mistake, and there hasn’t been a moment I haven’t regretted it,” Jones said of her decision to pick the joey up, which came much to the distress of the animal’s mother.

Still, the American doesn’t exactly seem ready to wave the white flag and stop gunning for Aussie officials who criticised her actions last week.

Prime Minister Albanese said the video of Jones was an ‘outrage’, while adding that the ‘so-called influencer’ should have tried taking on an animal ‘that can actually fight back’.

In response, she called out the leader, 62, by name in a three page statement sharing her side of the story, which also accused politicians of being hypocrites.

Jones claimed the government ‘allows and permits the slaughter of wombats’, which are a legally protected species, as well as alleging it spends ‘tens of millions of taxpayer dollars annually to fly around in helicopters and shoot beautiful horses, deer, and pigs out its windows’.

She doubled down on this comment in her latest statement to The Project, as the influencer said: “There’s something much bigger at play here, and it would be a disservice to ignore it.

“If this situation has proven anything, it’s proven that Australians care deeply about their wildlife, and that is something I intensely admire.”

Jones then claimed that ‘the Australian government issues permits for the killing of thousands and thousands of wombats across Australia, along with millions of Kangaroos’.

“The same government that has been calling for my head is the one that spends millions of your tax dollars slaughtering Australian animals,” she added.

The Project hosts didn’t seem to impressed with what Jones had to say, or by the fact she’d allegedly flaked on the interview in favour of providing a video statement.

Macdonald told viewers: “We were all here earlier this afternoon to do an interview with her and ask her questions. She pulled out of that and instead provided that video.

“I think, frankly, it’s pathetic, given what’s happened. Obviously, no one condones violence or threats of violence or any the terrible things that have have been thrown her way.

“But honestly, to say you are genuinely sorry but not be willing to explain yourself and [then] point the finger at the Australian government… I think it is pretty lousy.”

Harris branded Jones’ response to the situation ‘infuriating’ and branded her allegations about the treatment of animals in Australia as ‘untrue’, saying: ” [Her] statement is riddled with misinformation.”

“The reality is there’s been a strong public response,” Macdonald said. “I think Australians are proud of their wildlife.

“And we do have land management practices that do occur, but there are huge penalties if you slaughter native wildlife or mistreatment them and this individual has heard loudly and clearly from the Australian population.”

Harris added that hefty fines and even prison sentences can be handed out for those convicted of killing wombats.

It is an offence to harm a wombat in Australia unless a permit is obtained from the government.

According to Australia’s Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning explains: “It is an offence to kill, take, control or harm wildlife under the Wildlife Act without authorisation.

“It is also an offence to use poisons to kill, destroy or take wildlife. The maximum penalty for illegally hunting, taking or destroying wildlife ranges from $8,059 to $38,685 and/or six to 24 months’ imprisonment.”

Astronauts stuck in space for nine months begin return to earth with splashdown available to livestream

The world can tune in to watch the moment astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams finally return home

After a long nine months up in space, NASA astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams are finally on their way home.

That’s right – a woman could have gone through an entire pregnancy in the time that it has taken to get this twosome on the road again.

They started their 17-hour journey back to earth in SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft in the early hours of this morning (18 March) and you can watch the moment they splashdown live.

Tuning into NASA’s livestream will probably offer some much-needed closure for all those who have been following along with the space saga since June last year.

In a post on Twitter updating people on their progress, the space agency wrote: “They’re on their way!”

NASA said that Crew 9 had at long last undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) at 1:05am ET, which is 05:05am for people in the UK.

They’ve still got a good distance to go yet, but you can catch coverage of the Dragon’s re-entry and splashdown from 20:45pm tonight on Twitter, YouTube and NASA+.

Ditching the Netflix series you’re binge-watching for just one night to watch a piece of history unfold live won’t do you any harm.

Coverage switched to audio only after the undocking was completed, but NASA says video will resume ‘prior to the start of deorbit burn’.

This is when the engines of the spacecraft are fired up to full capacity so that it is able to re-enter the earth’s atmosphere, and it is estimated to begin at 21:11pm GMT.

The crew are supposed to splash down at about 21:57pm GMT in the Gulf of Mexico near the Florida coast, before a return-to-earth press conference will get underway.

Boffins from SpaceX and NASA met on Sunday (16 March) to assess the weather and splashdown conditions, before settling on an ‘earlier return opportunity’ due to more favourable conditions being forecasted tonight.

This rescheduling will also allow the astronauts to ‘complete handover duties while providing operational flexibility’ when the weather is set to take a turn later in the week.

NASA’s Space Operations Mission Directorate Joel Montalbano, NASA’s Commercial Crew Program manager Steve Stich, NASA’s International Space Station Program manager Bill Spetch and SpaceX director Sarah Walker will all be fielding questions from the press about the grand return after the splash down.

Wilmore, 62, and Williams, 59, were originally only meant to be on an eight-day trip to the ISS, but it ended up being drastically extended – and they won’t even get overtime pay for it.

The duo encountered a string of technical problems along the way, as well as false hope offered by the Boeing Starliner spacecraft, which only dragged out the mission even longer.

Now, Wilmore and Williams have been relieved by SpaceX Crew-10 astronauts Anne McClain, Nichole Ayers, Takuya Onishi and Kirill Peskov and can finally see their families.

The pair are accompanied by Crew 9 mission members Nick Hague and Aleksandr Gorbunov for their journey back.

The 24-year-old dropped out of uni in second year as she was becoming so successful

This Morning viewers were left ‘feeling sick’ during today’s (17 March) episode thanks to the ‘gross’ way one woman says she makes a mega £5,000 a week.

Reading that you may instantly assume it’s another set of TV viewers bashing people for making a living selling nudes on OnlyFans or just more criticism of sex workers. But that’s all real, valid work.

And evidently, they are services people want. Although, it is rather a niche service Latiesha Jones is catering to in order to make her thousands.

The 24-year-old appeared on This Morning as she told hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard how she has been able to pay off debts and buy her first property.

Almost five years ago, the woman started her OnlyFans account and tapped into quite the unique demographic, leading her to drop out of uni to focus on this new career.

It was thanks to one person’s request that led to her tapping into the niche; selling her toenail clippings, spit and bathwater.

“It came from a customer, they messaged me and said this is really weird but I was wondering if you would sell me your spit or shower water. I was thinking, ‘What on earth?'” Latiesha explained.

Having scrapped her plans to become a doctor for now, she described herself as ‘very money-motivated’.

And now, she’s got a much better understanding of just how much she loves money as she rakes in it with her business.

Compared to when she started out, Latiesha said: “I feel so much more comfortable and my boundaries are more in place. I feel I have more control over it now.”

The woman said that the most expensive thing she’s sold is some of her spit for a massive £1,500.

“I had a long-term relationship with that person,” Latiesha claimed, “but on average there isn’t anything that has sold for less than £400 or £500.”

But, of course, it was a bit too much for some of This Morning’s viewers as one wrote on X: “Really is this what This Morning programme has come to? It’s absolutely disgusting, please stop this madness and keep to normal stuff.”

“This is just effing weird,” another slammed as a third quipped: “My christ that’s disgusting.”

And many agreed: “This is so gross.”

While others just simply couldn’t believe people were buying the items from her.

But hey, if there’s a demand, why shouldn’t she meet it and cash in?
